After bidding goodbye to Akash and Ashita, we headed off toward Nagpur early morning a little later than what had become our habit during our 14-day long road trip from Noida to Rameshwaram and back via Eastern Ghats . In order to make the journey rewarding, we had made it a practice to search for and explore interesting places en ruite. On the way to Nagpur as well, we made several rejuvenating stops near Adilabad.

The first stop we made was at Medak for Medak Fort. When we got there, we discovered that the fort road was under construction and there was no other way to it. However the CSI Medak Cathedral was open and we visited that. After some initial confusion about whether or not we were allowed to carry a camera inside, we were able to explore the cathedral. It was a beautiful church built in Gothic style, with lush green grounds. Upon exploring it, our moods improved considerably.

It was a beautiful church built in Gothic style, with lush green grounds. Upon exploring it, our moods improved considerably.

At a shop near the Cathedral, we replenished our stocks of wet tissues and sunscreen. Right next to the chemist, we found a little restuarant. It was here that we had a really tasty dosa. The restaurant owner was a cheerful, generous guy and since we were the only "tourists" at his restaurant, he paid us special attention. However, this was also our last dosa of this trip, and we kept thinking of these beautiful idlis and dosas all through our remaining journey.

At a shop near the Cathedral, we replenished our stocks of wet tissues and sunscreen. Right next to the chemist, we found a little restuarant. It was here that we had a really tasty dosa. However, this was also our last dosa of this trip, and we kept thinking of these beautiful idlis and dosas all through our remaining journey.

Next, we headed to Pochera Waterfalls near Adilabad, which was peaceful and beautiful and the some good food for our souls. The falls are formed when Kadam River, a tributary of the Godavari River, cascades from a height of 20 metres. It is surrounded by lush greenery and dense forests, making it a picturesque location. The falls also have a bustling population of monkeys. Though they let us be while we were there, we recommend care.

We also stopped briefly at Sriram Sagar Dam to take a break. We reached Nagpur in the evening and decided to explore the two important lakes in the city. The Ambazari Lake was closed for renovations, but the Futala lake was open. We clicked some pictures of its amazing lights and then headed off to find a hotel. Some of the good hotels that we had located had no vacancy. Apparently the assembly is now in Nagpur so many hotels were booked by them. After driving through the city for a couple of hours, we managed to find an acceptable hotel and checked in at about 9:30 PM.

I am new to India-Drive. Wasn't aware about this wonderful website.

I would like to know your suggestions for Hyderabad to Nagpur drive, like how much time it will take, decent stops ( as I am travelling with family), Fuel stations and as I will driving from Bengaluru, on the way which place , after Hyderabad , I can stop for night halt.

I am planning to start by morning 5:00 AM from Bengaluru in Swift with limited stops.

Awaiting your valuable suggestions.

1 hour ago, Dhananjay said: I am planning to start by morning 5:00 AM from Bengaluru in Swift with limited stops.

Are you planning to do it in a single day?

I don't think it's possible to do in one day from BLR to NGP.

Thinking of taking halt at either HYD or Nizamabad. Both the places are new for me.

Any suggestions?

1 hour ago, Dhananjay said: Thinking of taking halt at either HYD or Nizamabad. Both the places are new for me.

Avoid Nizamabad, take a halt at Hyderabad.  Start early in the morning from Hyderabad.  You can take accommodation close to ORR (Gachibowli) Bangalore to Hyderabad roads are excellent.  Hyderabad to Adilabad is top notch.  Adilabad to Nagpur is average, you will find some sections filled with potholes, but the entire road is 4-lane. If it is a leisure trip, you can visit Kuntala waterfalls at Adilabad. Flow is average. But it is worth a visit.  Hyderabad to Nagpur has limited food/washroom options.  Specially, between Nizamabad to Nagpur.

Thanks

Thanks for your valuable suggestion, Ranger. ?

Its really useful.

After reading someother post in this forum only, I thought will halt at Nizamabad.

But, after your post, I think I will do a break journey at HYD itself.

Once again thanks.

Do update us once you are done with the trip.  Drive safe and all the best for your trip.

22 minutes ago, Dhananjay said: I thought will halt at Nizamabad.

You can also halt at Nizamabad, but you wont gain much.  If you have any time constraint you can still consider Nizamabad.

Since you are already taking two days, why not do it leisurely. Also you can find plenty of accommodations around Gachibowli, compared to Nizamabad.  You can also consider staying in Kompally. It will be easy for you to get out of city.  Once you enter Hyderabad, take ORR and exit at Kompally. No need to go through city traffic.

1 hour ago, Ranger said: Once you enter Hyderabad, take ORR and exit at Kompal ly. No need to go through city traffic.

Kandlakoy / Medchal Exit, there are no decent stay options here in this zone (Not for families at least)  @Ranger  Instead like you said best bet for @Dhananjay  would be to halt around Gachibowli, take ORR again next day early morning and exit through Medchal exit and proceed towards Adilabad - Nagpur!!

But the best possible itinerary would be halting at Hyderabad instead of Nizamabad so that you have plenty of options for decent stays / Breakfast joints and you will actually reach Adilabad for Lunch with current road conditions between Hyderabad - Adilabad.

Please do update us once you are done with the trip!

Happy and Safe Driving!! Hope this helps.

Thanks Sridhar for your valuable suggestion.

Actually my complete trip is till Bhopal. So, I thought of covering as much distance possible on day one and avoid night drive. Keeping this in mind, I thought of staying at Nizamabad as I heard after that there is no good place to stay at night with family. And, I am not sure, if , I will be able to cover BLR -> NGP in single day even though I start at 5:00 AM from BLR.

Still, I think if I can reach HYD by or before 1:00 PM, I will try to continue till NGP same day. But, not sure if its possible and doable.

:)

If you are planning to do it in two days, you need to push till Nizamabad.  But the stay options are average and limited. Once you cross Nagpur, roads deteriorate a lot. Very time consuming.  Also lack of proper food joints is a concern.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for all your suggestions.

As planned, I could start by only  6:00 AM from BLR and reached Nehru ORR by 1:20 PM.

Took 2 stops , 1 for breakfast for 20 minutes and then refueling before Hyderabad.

Climate was good and was greeted by rains in between twice till Hyderabad.

As I was able to cover till HYD by 1:20 PM, I decided to continue further and finally reached Adilabad by 5:40 or 6:00 PM. It started getting dark.

As the road till now was good , I decided to continue till  NGP. and break journey there. But to my surprise suddenly greeted by very bad patch.

My car took sudden hit on road and I was scared, luckily nothing happened to car.

There were no cars on the stretch. Only Big trucks were passing and  roads were pathetic.

I slowed down to 40 KMPH from 80-90 KMPH. My only worry was, if anything happens to car then it will be a big problem, even mobile network wasn't there.

(If anyone is taking same road, it will be good to cover this stretch during day time, at-least till the road gets repaired.)

Somehow, I kept driving and reached Hinganghat. Here road was good and now I was able to see some local cars moving towards NGP.

Also, was able to get mobile network too.  On the way, my wife booked a hotel near NGP Airport and by 9:15 PM checked in a hotel  opposite to airport.

Had hot water bath and dinner and slept.

Started for Bhopal next morning by 8:00 AM. Road till Betul was  excellent and after that single lane but was able to drive at 50-60 KMPH.

After crossing Hoshangabad at Budhni , took road towards Salkanpur and at Rehti took Kolar road.

This lag(NGP - BPL) of journey was tiring. Reached Bhopal at 6:00 PM ( After halting at Pandhurna for 1 and 1/2 hours).

I will start my return journey from Bhopal on Nov 1st and planning to start by 5:00 AM and will try to reach HYD same day.

Will share my experience on this part after reaching back.

Any suggestions are welcome :).

Thanks for the update @Dhananjay This is helpful

I am back to Bangalore on Nov 2nd.

Started from Bhopal on Nov 1st early morning 5:00 AM.

Reached Nagpur around 11:30 - 12:00 and continued.

As mentioned earlier, I wanted to cross Hinganghat - Adilabad stretch during day time so didnt halt much in between.

This time to my surprise, after Hinganghat and near Kelapur toll, was greeted by craters. If anyone is crossing this section first time that too in dark its very dangerous.

There was hardly any place to move car from there. Somehow crossed that section and within 2kms there is a toll named Kelapur toll. I complained there about the road condition and they told work in progress.

I even raised public grievance on " https://pgportal.gov.in/ ." and awaiting reply.

We reached Hyderabad at 7:00 PM and stayed in a hotel for night and started next day morning (Nov 2nd) for Bangalore.

After having breaks for breakfast and fuel reached home (in whitefield) by 4:30 PM).

With this,  I completed the trip successfully :).

Roads are good, except for few patches after Adilabad.  Chances of Fog are high in winter.  Plan you food breaks in advance. Very limited food options.

Regarding food outlets: Almost nothing is available on the way.

Fog: It could be there b'use of winter. I traveled in October and didnt experience fog at that time.

Hi Friends,

I have planned a Bangalore to Kanpur drive in early Feb 2020.

I read through many threads and almost done with BLR - Nagpur stretch.

Question is on Nagpur - Kanpur stretch.

Any suggestions/precautions to be taken ?

Did you complete your trip.

If yes, could you please update on the current road condition, specially between Adilabad and Nagpur.

Don't expect any drastic improvement. This road work is pending from the past one decade.

Sad affairs!

Plan your food spots in advance. Carry water and energy bars.

Thank you for the update. Any bad patches?

I am planning for drive from Bangalore to Jharsuguda(Odisha) (Via Hyderabad - Nagpur - Durg). Its little urgent and dont want to take option of flight because of COVID19. Even though domestic travel is not so risky but i have to come back as well and at that time how the situation will be i am not sure about.

I am well aware of Bangalore - Hyderabad as yearly  4-5 trips i do. But never driven Hyderabad to Nagpur. I would like to know how this stretch is, if i plan to start from Hyderabad early morning 4 AM.

Could you please share if you have recent experience or otherwise as well.

Now the Kelapur toll road is built, it's 4 lane now, I had travelled in the month end of February,

Once you cross Maharashtra rto, be careful after 15 to kms at the bridge near tippeshwar tiger sanctuary gate, there is uneven bridge, you will get sudden deep down at the bridge.

Once you approach hinganghat there will be few diversions.

I had reached in 7 hours from Hyderabad to Nagpur.

Thanks Ravi for the information

Thanks Ravi for the update.

I'm planning for a trip from Bengaluru to Nagpur in May aftr the lockdown is lifted... Travelling with family and am the single driver..

I'm planning to do a night halt at hyderabad and complete trip in two days..

Can anyone please update on the latest road conditions, driving time, halt n food tips and any other significant aspects...

Thanks in anticipation...

Based upon the recent updates in the forum, road condition is good.

Food points: From BLR - HYD you wont find any issue, but HYD to NGP is kind of deserted. Forget about good hotel or road side eatery , you wont even see a tea shop.

I covered this stretch in Last October in the evening time, not sure if everything was closed by then. You need to plan your trip accordingly.  Or you need to detour some 15-20 km from NH44 to go to towns (like Nizamabad, Adilabad) on the way for proper food.I would suggest keep some ready to eat stuff with you and start as early as possible from HYD , by this you will reach NGP (close to 7 -8 hours drive) by lunch time and will be able to avoid afternoon drive, which will be difficult in May.

Fuel: You wont find any problem for refueling your vehicle, but try to get refueled in HYD and topup around Adilabad. in this case you will be good untill NGP. (I am not sure which vehicle you have.).

Have a safe drive.

Thanks a lot..

I just drove down from hyd (gachibowli)1230h to Nagpur(Sonegaon) 1835h. Completed the trip in jus above 6 hrs. Roads are gud except for one odd few patches after crossing Maharashtra border near Hinganghat. Date was 19th Jun 20. So almost all petrol pumps were open by day. Not sure of night. Its better to top up at hyd n start. U'll be able to reach nagpur by late morning hours and continue.

Safe driving...

Hi @PankajUpreti .

Your drive would really be a hectic one considering the current situation of interstate transfers. The roads all the way are good except for a bit around hinganghat. If you start at 3 AM you would reach late in the night..

Quick tip: Keep filling up to full in Nagpur when you enter the city. Try to avoid the fuel stations on the highways.

I would suggest you to break down at Nagpur for a night and continue your journey the next day to Katni.

The roads are very good from Hyderabad to Nagpur, I had travelled in February 2020,i was able to reach in 7 hours,

So you can reach at 10 am to nagpur without break, take a break to fill petrol at Nagpur.

Nagpur to Jabalpur the road is good except for 10-15 kms patch is not good.few diversions were there may be now improved.

You can cover up to Jabalpur in 4-5 hours, from there to katni I don't have idea.

As far as I remember there are enough Petrol pumps between HYD and NGP, though not sure about their operations during night, mostly it should be working round the clock.

It is just 500 KM from HYD -. NGP and if you top-up near Adilabad, I dont think you need any other fuel break.

NGP -> BPL -- There are enough Petrol pumps on the way, no worries. Again it is  351 Km , via Betul, Hoshangabad road. So, if you do a full tank at NGP outskirts, I don't think you need any fuel break after that till Bhopal.

Not sure, how many times, you have covered HYD to NGP. But, it will be good, if you can avoid night driving on that route. Try to start early morning( around 4:00-5:00AM) from HYD.

Please do post your experience post journey.

Have a safe trip.

Thanks for the same.

Surely will post after trip will be completed.

I have to travel from Hyderabad to Bhopal next week via same route with my family. I am planning on covering the entire stretch in a day.

I am specially concerned about the security of the entire stretch during this pandemic, particularly Betul to Bhopal part.

Also, do I need to get pass for the travel? Now that the inter-state movements are allowed. However, will get if anyone has faced any issues related to this.

Any advice will be helpful.

On my December trip the route i took was: Hyderabad > Nizamabad > Adilabad > Hinganghat > Through nagpur bypass > Seoni > Jabalpur The road was bad(10-15Kms) before seoni in the ghat section. On my postlockdown trip to jabalpur the route i took was: Hyderabad > Nizamabad > Adilabad > Hinganghat > Nagpur City> Chindwara(via NH 47, 547) > Seoni> Jabalpur - The chindwara ghat section has some steep ghats, be careful - Nagpur to chindwara and to seoni is two lane and at some places its too narrow. Had to take a diversion to chindwara as the ghat section before seoni is under construction and the newspapers in jbp reported that the road is closed.  I had to travel till Allahabad for both the trips, let me know if you guys want details of that route as well.

Year back I drive from hyd to jbp via nagpur -chindwara, road is awesome staight road without any bump you can easily maintain speed of 120 - 140 in day as well as night, so cover this part in night time and post nagpur to bhopal road is not good so cover it in day time

I drove from Hyderabad to Nagpur today (27th July 2020).

Left Gachibowli area around 1130. Got to Nagpur City Limits by 1900.

BORDER CROSSING : At the Maharashtra border entry check post, I was just asked questions verbally by a couple of officials sitting there. They asked me where I was coming from, where I was headed (MP), and whether I had made sure I had passes for wherever it is I was going. No passes or Documents were actually checked.

PASSES : I did apply yesterday (26th) for a “Nagpur to MP Destination city” pass from the MH Police Site . It was first rejected when I put my Hyderabad address, with reason “Outside Jurisdiction”. I then re-applied with the address of my hotel in Nagpur, and put travel date of 28th, which is when I will drive from Nagpur to MP. The second time it was approved in minutes. This pass was not required / asked to be shown while entering MH.

As far as I can tell, the Maharashtra Police system issues passes of 2 types: (1) Intra-Maharashtra, (2) Maharashtra to outside. It does not have an option to get a pass for  say Hyderabad to Nagpur. But that was  not required, based on my experience.

I also got me a pass from the MP Website . Again not required not even asked for so far, but just to be safe. The MP pass requires no approval from anyone. It is free for everyone (unless you intend to enter Bhopal, where there is a lockdown in force, and for which I do not know the requirements or process).

ROAD CONDITION : Excellent throughout Telangana. No surprises or sudden potholes or bumps that I can remember.

However, the Maharashtra side of the journey is not to be taken lightly. You could legit break your car if it isn’t a huge jeep or SUV. Once you exit the last toll tax in Telangana (Pippalwada), the one after Adilabad exit from the highway, you need to be careful.

I will  highly  recommend driving the Adilabad to Nagpur patch while there is daylight. Leave early from Hyderabad if you need to.

There are sudden huge potholes in a bunch of places after entering Maharashtra. From this point until this point please drive very carefully.

Even after that, all the way until Nagpur do not consider the road to be trustworthy like it was back in Telangana. Speed past 100 only at your own risk.

TOLLS : I have FASTag and I highly recommend it. Total cost of HYD-NGP Tolls was 660 Rupees, charged through FASTag (I exited Hyderabad through KPHB and Bollaram road, so no ORR Toll). One place (can't remember which one but pretty sure it was in Maharashtra) which didn't have FASTag and looked like a very shady toll tax booth stopped me but when I asked them to charge me using FASTag, the guy in the booth just signalled to the guy standing outside, who had stopped me, and they opened the barrier and let me through. Mysterious.

happy travelling!

Thank you for the updates guys. Very helpful information.

Thanks for the update, Sankalp. It is very helpful.

Yesterday I drove from Hyderabad to Katni via Nagpur with Family.

We started from Hyderabad at 5 am morning.

Our speed through out the journey was 90-110 KMPH.

Weather was good, no rain by God Grace.

Hyderabad to Nagpur:

(1) Roads from Hyderabad to Maharashtra border is very good. Speed u can drive 100-120 KMPH as per ur driving skills. We drove fast as we have to cover 900 km in a single day and in daytime only.

(2) Once u cross Maharashtra toll, roads were not good as it was before sudden ups and down, pothole can be experienced, one or two location we also got jerk... Then our speed got slow to 80-90 know KMPH.

(3) We crossed Nagpur and took Jabalpur Highway around 11 am.

(4) Must carry Fastag....and total toll was around ₹700.

(5) At Maharashtra border they will ask from u about ur name, where u r heading, having pass or not, contact number and number of passengers.

They won't check pass, just they will ask whether u have or not. If u say yes, they won't ask to show.

Nagpur To Jabalpur

(1) Road was again good , speed 100-110 KMPH.

(2) To our sudden surprise, road was blocked around 180 km before Jabalpur for construction work, because of which we are forced to take turn towards Katangi the via reached Jabalpur.

(3) Due to this turn the we drove 90 km extra. This road was single lane but good.

(4) One have to take extra care as somewhere road pases from Forest

(5) One Jeep started following us, then I drove at 110-120 KMPH.

(6) The road then connect with SH ,there are sudden big potholes on the mid of road.

(7) One Ghat road was also there, drive carefully.

(8) Afterwards, it connects to NH 44.

(9) Advice, please always fill the petrol once ur tank is half empty.

(10) Drive carefully, u don't find garages also for rectify any damages.

(11) Carry ur car Air Tyre refueler.

(12) U will get it ₹1600 from Amazon.

Jabalpur to Katni

(1) Road was good and no disturbing found.

(2) Only ,one thing, always have full tank.

Total Journey Time: 12 hrs.

Total Km covered: 960 km

I drove too fast and in single stretch, no break in midway as my intention is to cover all distance in daylight only.

Hope above will be helpful, in case of any more information, please post.

Hi @Sankalp - MH rejected my epass request stating fitness certificate required. did you had to furnish fitness certificate? how to get the same? is it required for all traveleres

Yes, I went to a doctor in the neighbourhood (I drove around looking for a small and less busy clinic, since I wanted to avoid a place where I may pick up COVID). I explained the situation and asked for a certificate saying that the subject (me) does not have any COVID Symptoms.

The doctor checked my BP, Temperature, asked a few questions, and then issued a certificate. Attaching mine here for your reference. He charged me 500 Rupees for it, which is the same as what you pay many places for consultation, so I paid without trying to negotiate. Maybe you could get a better rate per member from the doctor you go to.
