The best travel dresses make it easy to throw together outfits while allowing you to pack fewer pieces. They can be dressed up or down for casual, fancy, and professional occasions. You can wear them on travel days and, depending on the material, potentially multiple times during your trip — even without access to a washing machine.

We scoured the internet and checked our own closets to compile options for every style, season, and activity. From sophisticated shirt dresses, sweater dresses, and wraps to breezy sundresses, maxis, and sporty athleisure numbers, you'll find the perfect frock here.

Best Overall

Quince mongolian cashmere sleeveless midi sweater dress.

This endlessly versatile dress can be worn year-round, in any weather, and you can style it with various layers, outerwear, and shoes.

The brand recommends hand washing it and laying it flat to dry.

You can count on Quince for well-made wardrobe staples at accessible price points. The brand carries lots of high-quality, relatively low-maintenance cashmere pieces, like this travel-friendly dress. It features a sleeveless, midi-length cut and a fisherman sweater knitting pattern.

Suitable for all four seasons, this dress can be layered under a cardigan, blazer, jean jacket, or shawl, worn over a snug-fitting turtleneck or thin T-shirt, or rocked as-is in warm weather. It also pairs well with various shoe styles, including boots, sandals, flats, block heels, and wedges.

Since cashmere (a type of wool sourced from goats) is naturally odor-resistant, you can wear this dress more than once between washes — and pack fewer items for your trip. The soft, breathable material won't wrinkle or crease in your suitcase, either. But bear in mind hand washing is recommended.

The Details: XS to XL | Mongolian cashmere

Best Budget

Amazon essentials above-the-knee dress.

With a laidback athleisure style, this sweatshirt dress is great for daytime wear or hanging out at your rental.

It doesn't have pockets.

If you're on a budget, look no further than Amazon. This affordable frock features a classic crew neckline, long sleeves, and an above-the-knee cut. The laidback style is essentially a sweatshirt dress, so consider wearing it with sneakers, slides, or another sporty sandal style. You can wear it en route to your destination, out and about during the day, or while padding around your vacation rental. We wish it had pockets, but for this price, we're not complaining.

The Details: XS to 2XL | Cotton, polyester

Best Size-inclusive

Skims long sleeve dress.

It comes in nine sizes, and the buttery fabric stretches to twice its size to ensure a fit every time.

Popular sizes and styles sell out frequently.

Skims is among today's most size-inclusive brands. Not only does this dress come in nine sizes (ranging from 2XS to 4X), but like other pieces from the Fits Everybody line, the unbelievably flexible, body-molding fabric stretches to double its size. Plus, it resists wrinkles and takes up minimal suitcase space. We also appreciate that the dress offers subtle shaping effects, cinching the waist and smoothing the arms and hips. Unfortunately, popular sizes and colors sell out frequently, but if you can snag this dress in your size, you won't regret it.

The Details: 2XS to 4X | Polyamide, elastane

Best Short-sleeve

Everlane short-sleeve dress.

The timeless, travel-ready Dream Dress can be dressed up or down and worn with several outerwear and footwear styles.

This style doesn't have pockets.

This timeless, elegant dress from Everlane is just the thing for your upcoming trip. It flaunts a mid-length A-line skirt, a semi-fitted bodice, and short sleeves that fall just above the elbows. You can dress it up or down, wear it day or night, and pair it with a wide range of outerwear and footwear styles — think loafers and a blazer, heeled boots and an overcoat, or flats and a denim jacket. This dress is also sustainably made with organic cotton and modal sourced from responsibly managed forests.

The Details: XS to XL | Organic cotton, modal, elastane

Best Long-sleeve

Nordstrom long sleeve shift sweatshirt dress.

This cozy, casual dress boasts a neoprene-like knit fabric that's warm but not overly heavy with wrinkle-resistant stretch.

It may not be as breathable as natural weaves.

We stand behind Nordstrom's own brand for high-quality pieces that aren't exorbitantly expensive. Case in point: this thoughtfully designed long-sleeve number. This dress features a relaxed shift silhouette, a jewel neckline, a midi-length cut with side slits, and handy pockets that are clutch for travel. The neoprene-like sweatshirt material is thick and cozy but not too heavy. And it has some stretch to it, which helps prevent wrinkles and enhances the overall comfort.

The Details: 2XS to 2XL | Polyester, rayon, spandex

Best Sleeveless

Unbound merino travel dress.

The aptly named Travel Dress is a layerable, three-season wardrobe basic that can be worn multiple times between washes.

The material may pill over time.

Unbound Merino's Travel Dress is crafted mostly from merino wool, with a touch of nylon and spandex for extra stretch and durability. As a naturally antimicrobial textile, wool repels bacteria that cause body odor, so you can wear it multiple times between washes. This makes it ideal for travel, as you can pack fewer outfits. Less frequent washing will also help prevent the material from pilling. Though the sleeveless style is a go-to for warm climates, you can also wear it in transitional weather with the right layers and accessories.

The Details: XS to XL | Merino wool, nylon, spandex

Maeve Sweater Dress

Anthropologie

The 1960s-esque Annalise Dress is flirty yet sophisticated and suitable for year-round wear.

Hand washing is recommended.

We love this flirty yet sophisticated dress from Maeve. Reminiscent of go-go dresses from the 1960s, the Annalise has a modish mock neck, nearly elbow-length sleeves, a simple shift silhouette, and patch pockets. Though it's a mini cut, the weighty, sweater-inspired material and structured shape make it suitable for year-round wear. Whether you style it with tights and an overcoat or go bare-legged with heeled sandals, you'll be dressed to impress. The fabric should resist wrinkling, but you might consider hand washing to prevent pilling or misshaping the garment.

The Details: 2XS to XL | Viscose, polyester, nylon

Free People Essential Slim Midi

Free People

This effortless T-shirt dress is super stretchy and exceptionally soft, not to mention versatile, layerable, and packable.

You'll want to wash it by hand with cold water.

Free People makes our favorite calf-length option. The Essential Slim Midi is lightweight and stretchy with a super-soft, airy feel. This semi-slim (but not too tight) T-shirt dress works as a swimsuit cover-up, resort wear, or a casual daytime outfit. The effortless design goes with sneakers, slides, wedges, platform sandals, or flats. It doesn't have pockets, but it's wrinkle-resistant and easy to pack. Just a heads up, the brand recommends hand washing this dress with cold water.

The Details: XS to XL | Polyester, viscose, elastane

Anthropologie Maxi Dress

The easy-breezy Raya Dress is just the thing for beach days, hanging by the pool, going to lunch, or attending a music festival.

Since it's 100 percent cotton, it may shrink or wrinkle in the wash.

We also like Anthropologie's Raya Dress. This easy-breezy maxi is perfect for a day at the beach, pool, or resort, but you can also wear it out to lunch, while shopping, to the farmer's market, or to a music festival. Available in four pretty colorways, the colorblock design is modern and eye-catching without sacrificing versatility. This dress is 100 percent cotton, so you can bet it's breathable and moisture-wicking. That said, it might wrinkle or shrink slightly in the wash — Anthropologie recommends hand washing.

The Details: XS to 3XL | Cotton

Best T-shirt Dress

Allsaints short sleeve maxi dress.

With a boxy silhouette and sporty details, the Anna Maxi has a casually cool vibe you'll reach for again and again while traveling.

It may shrink slightly the first time you wash it.

T-shirt dresses are excellent for travel, as they're easy to style and offer a casually cool streetwear appeal for daytime ensembles. We like this one from AllSaints. The Anna Maxi features a simple, slightly boxy silhouette, a sporty crew neckline, short cuffed sleeves, and side pockets, plus a longer cut, which makes it more seasonless. Since this dress is 100 percent cotton (of the organic variety), it might shrink a little the first time you wash it.

The Details: 00 to 12 | Organic cotton

Best Shirt Dress

Aday something borrowed dress.

The modern design has sleek, pared-down details and a professional appeal that's still laidback enough for casual outings.

It's machine washable, but line drying is recommended.

This shirt dress from Aday will make you look put-together while minimizing your time curating outfits. It's made of what the brand calls "technical silk," a sumptuously smooth, stretchy, and wrinkle-proof blend of nylon and elastane. Instead of a traditional point collar and buttons, it features a simple Mandarin collar and hidden snap fastenings down the front for a sleeker, pared-down appeal — extra points for the pockets. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, you won't regret packing this professional-looking yet easygoing piece.

The Details: XS to XL | Nylon, elastane

Best Sweater Dress

Faherty jackson sweater dress.

Featuring a mid-weight knit fabric and preppy details, this sweater dress is soft, cozy, and suitable for multiple seasons.

Hand washing and air drying are recommended.

Faherty's Jackson Dress can be worn in the fall, winter, or spring. Balancing a laidback vibe with preppy details, the modest, collared design is suitable for business-casual settings and leisurely activities alike. It's soft and cozy, too, thanks to the mid-weight sweater-inspired knit material. Since the cotton is blended with synthetic yarns, this dress should resist wrinkling. Still, hand washing is recommended to preserve the material.

The Details: XS to 2XL | Cotton, polyester, nylon, elastane

Best With Pockets

Foreign fare wrap me up dress.

Foreign Fare

Made with travel in mind, this non-wrinkling dress has two side pockets and a hidden zipper section big enough to fit a smartphone or passport.

It'll fall below the knees on shorter people.

The Wrap Me Up Dress was designed with travel in mind. It's made of a durable, wrinkle-resistant blend of Tencel and polyester, so you won't have to worry about creases when packing it in a suitcase. The material is also breathable, soft, and slightly drapey, which complements the subtly flowy, A-line silhouette. Best of all, it has pockets: two on the sides and one hidden zipper pocket on the front seam where you can stash your phone, ID, passport, room key, cash, or cards.

The Details: XS to 2XL | Tencel, polyester

Best Athleisure

Athleta coaster luxe sweatshirt dress.

Made of a thick, stretchy material with thumb-hole sleeves and zippered pockets, the Coaster Luxe Dress has a practical, athletic appeal.

If you prefer a slightly longer cut, consider getting the tall fit.

Athleisure was once brushed off as a passing trend of the early aughts, but the practical, non-restricting clothing style is here to stay — and it's a go-to among travelers. Athleta's Coaster Luxe Dress is made of an ultra-soft and supremely stretchy brushed sweatshirt material that'll keep you cozy while resisting wrinkles and wicking away moisture. The zippered pockets are a much-appreciated detail. You can wear this sporty frock to and from your destination, to brunch, on daily walks, while sightseeing, out shopping, or just hanging out at your hotel or vacation rental.

The Details: 2XS to 3XL | Lyocell, polyester, lycra

Most Versatile

Marine layer short sleeve midi dress.

Marine Layer

This seasonless little black dress can be layered, accessorized, and styled many ways, no matter the weather.

It only comes in one color and doesn't have pockets.

The little black dress – but make it seasonless. Marine Layer reimagined its best-selling Lexi Dress (a midi-length, sleeveless style) with a slightly thicker fabric, then added a mock neck and above-the-elbow sleeves. The result is an incredibly versatile piece you can wear in winter, spring, summer, or fall. It's a stellar evening dress for warm climates and can be layered and accessorized for transitional weather. In the cold months, wear it with tights, boots, a cardigan, and a warm overcoat.

The Details: XS to XL | Tencel lyocell, spandex

Best Day-to-night

Modern citizen yimei mock-neck side-slit dress.

Modern Citizen

This wrap-inspired dress can be worn all day, whether you have brunch, shopping, a work meeting, or a networking event on your itinerary.

You can machine wash it on a delicate cycle, but let it air dry.

During the day, the Yimei Dress can be worn with sandals or flats while shopping, out to lunch, or to a work meeting. Then throw on heels and a blazer to transition your look to evening attire for happy hour, a dinner reservation, or a networking event. It's professional and elegant but not so fancy that you'll look out of place at more casual outings. We like that it looks like a wrap dress but doesn't require any wrapping, tying, or retightening throughout the day. What's more, the soft, stretchy fabric won't wrinkle in your suitcase or on your body.

The Details: XS to 2XL | Hemp, cotton, spandex

Tips for Buying Travel Dresses

Consider versatility.

The best travel dresses are versatile. This means they can be worn in multiple seasons in different climates, layered with other pieces, easily accessorized, and styled many ways. Ideally, you'll be able to wear the dress more than once on your trip (or at least day and night), so you don't have to pack as many outfits. With this in mind, look for mid-weight fabrics, medium lengths, odor-resistant materials, and neutral hues.

Think about care instructions

You should also consider the care requirements of your travel dresses. A machine washable design is ideal, especially if you'll have access to a washing machine on your trip. But even if a dress calls for hand washing, you can clean it in your hotel room (or anywhere with a sink) and let it air dry.

Sweat-wicking and odor-resistant materials like wool, cashmere, and some performance fabrics don't need to be washed after every use. This is great for travel dresses, as you can wear them multiple times and pack fewer clothing items in your suitcase.

A wrinkle-resistant dress made of a stretchy, durable material can be folded or rolled up compactly in a suitcase. However, more delicate pieces should be carefully folded and placed on top of your other items. In some cases, a garment bag might be necessary to protect the fabric and prevent a dress from wrinkling en route.

The best materials for travel dresses are stretchy, wrinkle-resistant, breathable, and sweat-wicking. Many fabrics and textile blends have these qualities. Natural materials like wool, cotton, and viscose tend to be the most breathable, and they keep odor-causing bacteria at bay. But they're not always as durable or flexible as their synthetic counterparts.

Tencel lyocell and modal are exceptions, as they're naturally derived and inherently stretchy. Travel-friendly synthetic fibers include polyester, polyamide, elastane, nylon, lycra, and spandex.

When it comes to cruising, Virgin Voyages has shaken up the industry with its fresh approach to style. The cruise line offers a relaxed and casual atmosphere, encouraging passengers to embrace their style and comfort while sailing the high seas.

Virgin Voyages’ dress code is very inclusive of celebrating passengers’ freedom of expression and personality. According to the cruise line , “We always want all of our Sailors to feel comfortable. We encourage you to wear more than a bathing suit if you go to a restaurant and kindly consider shoes, but your style is yours. Who are we to judge?”

The cruise line’s onboard policies emphasize comfort and self-expression, making it the perfect choice for those who enjoy a more laid-back and relaxed vacation experience.

Table of Contents

Virgin Voyages Dress Code

The Virgin Voyages dress code is very relaxed. The cruise lines want sailors (their name for guests) to feel comfortable expressing their personal style. Guests are encouraged to wear more than a bathing suit in a Virgin Voyages restaurant and consider wearing shoes, but there are no formal attire requirements.

Virgin Voyages website sums up the dress code as “Dress Up. Dress Down. Just Dress.”

Virgin Voyages is about creating a unique and relaxed atmosphere for its sailors. They encourage everyone to feel comfortable and let their personal style shine.

Virgin Voyages has no strict dress code, so feel free to dress up or down as you please.

On Scarlet Lady , we found a wide range of passenger styles and attire. Some passengers wore formal wear, while others opted for bathing suits and tank tops.

However, we found that most passengers dressed casually during the day and semi-casual or business-casual in the evening.

Of course, you’ll want to bring your best party clothing when you visit the ship’s nightclub, The Manor. But feel free to dress how you feel most comfortable.

Special Events

During your Virgin Voyages cruise, there are two special events; Scarlet Night and the Pajama Party.

There’s no requirement to dress up for the events. And you can attend without the suggested clothing.

But late-night parties are much more fun when you dress the part.

Scarlet Night Dress Code

A photo of Marcello and Victoria dressed in red on Virgin Voyages dress code for Scarlet night

Scarlet Night is the signature event on Virgin Voyages, where passengers dress in red and participate in a pool deck dance party under the stars. Scarlet Night is a dynamic and unconventional party that celebrates individuality and encourages everyone to enjoy the fun.

The dress code for Scarlet Night is centered around the theme of “wear something red.” Sailors can interpret this as they wish – be it a red outfit, a red accessory, or even just a touch of red makeup.

Don’t be afraid to get creative and show off your personality!

There’s no requirement to dress in red. But in our experience, around 95% of people dress in red for Scarlet Night.

Pajama Party

The Pajama Party is another exciting event on Virgin Voyages, where sailors are encouraged to embrace their inner child and enjoy a night of fun and comfort.

For this event, the dress code is simple – wear your favorite pajamas!

Whether you prefer a cozy onesie, a classic nightshirt, or a chic silk set, the key is to feel relaxed and at ease. So grab your comfy sleepwear and join in the festivities!

Designer Cruise Dresses

If you’re going on your first cruise, figuring out what to wear for the formal events can feel like a daunting task. There’s the Captain's dinner, dinner in the main dining room, and other snazzy cruise events you want to stand out for.

To avoid sticking out among the crowd, it’s important that you find the right cruise formal wear to bring with you on your exciting vacation. Understanding the different cruise events and the cruise line’s dress code is key before stocking up on garments.

Nevertheless, participating in formal events on cruise ships is fun! For most people, it allows them to dress up and wear designer cruise dresses they wouldn’t typically wear.

Formal Cruise Event Attire

Before you buy clothes to wear, it’s best to look at the dress code your particular cruise line has set. Cruise ships have hundreds of events happening every night and certain events may have different codes than others. Some dress codes can be “resort casual,” “smart casual,” or “formal” for certain events or daytime wear.

Typically, there are one or two dinners aboard the ship that require formal wear, mainly dinners. Depending on how long your cruise is, there will be somewhere between one and three dinner nights where formal wear is the dress code. Other events that may require you to dress up formally could be the casino or shows.

When a cruise line has a “formal” dress code requirement, it typically means men wear suits or tuxedos and women wear  gala dresses and  evening gowns .

Styles To Bring On a Cruise

Cruise lines and luxury cruise lines are your place to make a statement with the type of designer cruise gowns and styles you bring along with you. Staying on top of the trends is another factor to consider when finding the right cruise ship dresses.

For spring or summer colors, the trending tones seem to be pastel colors, specifically  soft pink and  blue tones . Colors to stay away from onboard a cruise ship are  brown or warm tones relating to this color.  Black , however, is an exception.

Navy , white, and lighter colors are the perfect tones to choose for your nautical voyage. When it comes to patterns and styles, off-the-shoulder dresses, halter tops, spaghetti straps, and sequins can add beauty to your sophisticated look.

Introduction

If you’re planning a cruise with Virgin Voyages, you’re in for a truly unique and unforgettable experience. With their innovative approach to cruising, Virgin Voyages offers a fresh and modern take on the traditional cruise vacation. One important aspect of preparing for your Virgin Voyage cruise is knowing what to wear. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, exploring exciting ports of call, or enjoying luxurious dining options on board, having the right clothing will ensure that you feel comfortable, stylish, and ready for any occasion.

Virgin Voyages caters to a diverse range of travelers, so you’ll find a mix of relaxed and formal dress codes throughout your cruise. From daytime activities to special evening events, there are certain clothing items that are essential for a seamless and enjoyable vacation. In this article, we’ll guide you through the must-have outfits and accessories for your Virgin Voyage cruise, helping you pack smartly and stylishly.

When it comes to packing for a Virgin Voyage cruise, versatility is key. You’ll want to have outfits that can transition seamlessly from daytime activities to evening events, ensuring that you’re always appropriately dressed. Additionally, considering the weather during your cruise is important, as some destinations may have varying climates. By planning ahead and selecting the right clothing pieces, you’ll be prepared for any situation and be able to make the most of your time on board.

So, whether you’re a fashionista looking to make a statement or someone who prefers a more relaxed and practical approach to their style, we’ve got you covered. Let’s dive into the essential clothing items and accessories you’ll need for your Virgin Voyage cruise.

Essential Clothing Items for a Virgin Voyage Cruise

When it comes to packing for your Virgin Voyage cruise, it’s important to have a well-curated selection of clothing items that will suit the various activities and occasions you’ll encounter on board. Here is a list of essential clothing items to consider:

  • Comfortable shoes: Start with a good pair of walking shoes or sneakers, as you’ll likely be doing a fair amount of exploring on board and during shore excursions. Additionally, pack some sandals or flip-flops for poolside lounging and beach visits.
  • Swimsuits: Don’t forget to pack at least two swimsuits, so you always have a dry option available. Whether you prefer a classic one-piece or a trendy bikini, make sure to choose styles that make you feel confident and comfortable.
  • Lightweight clothing: Opt for breathable and lightweight fabrics like cotton or linen. Pack a variety of tops, bottoms, and dresses that can be mixed and matched for different looks. Be sure to include a few versatile pieces that can easily transition from day to night.
  • Formal attire: Virgin Voyages offers opportunities for elegant and glamorous evenings, so pack at least one formal outfit. This could be a cocktail dress for ladies and a suit or dress shirt and pants for gentlemen. Accessorize with statement jewelry and a stylish pair of shoes.
  • Outerwear: Depending on the destination and time of year, you may want to pack a light jacket or cardigan for cooler evenings and air-conditioned spaces on board.
  • Activewear: If you plan on taking advantage of the fitness facilities or participating in active shore excursions, pack comfortable activewear such as leggings, shorts, and moisture-wicking tops.
  • Accessories: Don’t forget to bring accessories such as sunglasses, a sun hat, a versatile scarf, and a small clutch or crossbody bag. These items can elevate your outfits and add a stylish touch.

Remember, the key to successful packing is to create outfits that can be mixed and matched to suit different occasions. By packing versatile and timeless pieces, you’ll be prepared for anything that comes your way during your Virgin Voyage cruise.

Formal Wear for Special Occasions on Board

While Virgin Voyages embraces a laid-back and casual atmosphere, there are still special occasions on board where you’ll have the opportunity to dress up and showcase your elegant style. Here’s what you need to know about formal wear for those special occasions:

1. Evening gowns and cocktail dresses: For ladies, opting for a floor-length evening gown or a classy cocktail dress is a great choice for formal events. Choose a style and color that flatters your body type and makes you feel confident.

2. Suits and tuxedos: Gentlemen can never go wrong with a well-fitted suit or a stylish tuxedo for the formal evenings on board. Pair it with a crisp dress shirt, a matching tie or bowtie, and polished dress shoes.

3. Accessories: Add some sparkle and flair to your formal attire with the right accessories. Ladies can consider statement jewelry, a clutch, and elegant heels. Gentlemen can accessorize with cufflinks, a pocket square, and a stylish watch.

4. Hair and makeup: Completing your formal look with a polished hairstyle and makeup can make a big difference. Consider booking a salon appointment on board to ensure you look your best for the special occasion.

It’s important to note that formal attire is typically required only for specific events, such as Captain’s Night or Gala Dinner. The dress code for the rest of the evenings on board is generally smart-casual. However, if you enjoy dressing up, feel free to embrace your personal style and make a fashion statement on any night of your cruise.

Remember, formal wear should be comfortable and reflect your personal style. It’s all about feeling confident, elegant, and ready to indulge in the luxurious atmosphere that Virgin Voyages offers.

Comfortable and Casual Outfits for Daytime Activities

During your Virgin Voyage cruise, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the various daytime activities on board. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, attending fitness classes, exploring the ship, or participating in casual excursions, it’s important to have comfortable and stylish outfits. Here are some outfit ideas for daytime activities:

1. Maxi dresses and jumpsuits: A maxi dress or a jumpsuit is a perfect choice for a relaxed and chic daytime look. Opt for lightweight fabrics that will keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day.

2. Shorts and t-shirts: Pairing comfortable shorts with a casual t-shirt is a classic combination for a laid-back look. Choose breathable materials such as cotton or linen for optimal comfort in warmer weather.

3. Athleisure wear: If you’re planning to engage in fitness activities or spend time in the onboard gym, pack some stylish activewear. Leggings, yoga pants, and moisture-wicking tops are great options for staying comfortable and active.

4. Breezy skirts and blouses: For a feminine and relaxed vibe, consider packing breezy skirts or flowy midi dresses paired with loose-fitting blouses. This combination is both comfortable and stylish, perfect for a leisurely day on board.

5. Casual sundresses: A casual sundress is a versatile option that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. It’s a comfortable and effortless choice for daytime activities, allowing you to move freely while looking chic.

Remember to pack comfortable shoes such as sandals or sneakers to complete your daytime outfits. You may also want to bring a light sweater or cardigan in case the temperature drops or if you’ll be spending time in air-conditioned areas of the ship.

Feel free to mix and match your outfits to create different looks and showcase your personal style. Comfort is key, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. With the right clothing choices, you can look and feel fabulous during your daytime activities on board your Virgin Voyage cruise.

Swimwear and Beach Attire for Enjoying the Sun and Sea

One of the highlights of your Virgin Voyage cruise will undoubtedly be the opportunity to soak up the sun and enjoy the sparkling blue waters. Whether you plan on lounging by the pool or exploring beautiful beaches during shore excursions, having the right swimwear and beach attire is essential. Here’s what you need to pack:

1. Swimsuits: Pack at least two swimsuits so you always have a dry option available. Choose styles that make you feel confident and comfortable, whether it’s a classic one-piece, a trendy bikini, or a tankini. You can also consider mix-and-match options to create different looks throughout your cruise.

2. Cover-ups: A stylish cover-up is a must-have for beach and pool days. Opt for lightweight and flowy options like sarongs, kaftans, or beach dresses. These will provide coverage and protection from the sun while keeping you cool.

3. Sun Hats: Protect yourself from the sun by packing a wide-brimmed hat or a straw hat. Not only will it shield your face from the sun’s rays, but it also adds a touch of style to your beach attire.

4. Sunglasses: Don’t forget to pack a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun. Opt for polarized lenses for extra glare reduction.

5. Beach Bags: A spacious and durable beach bag is essential for carrying your essentials to the pool or the beach. Look for a bag that is large enough to hold your towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, and other beach accessories.

6. Beach Shoes: Don’t forget to pack a pair of water-friendly shoes like flip-flops or sandals that can handle sand and water. These will be useful when walking on the beach or exploring rocky shores.

Remember to pack sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s also a good idea to bring a beach towel or check if the cruise provides them for you. With the right swimwear and beach attire, you’ll be ready to make the most of the sun and sea during your Virgin Voyage cruise.

Practical Clothing for Active Shore Excursions

One of the highlights of a Virgin Voyage cruise is the opportunity to explore exciting ports of call and participate in thrilling shore excursions. To ensure comfort and ease during your active adventures, it’s important to pack practical clothing that allows for freedom of movement and protection. Here are some essential clothing items to consider for your active shore excursions:

1. Comfortable Shorts or Pants: Opt for moisture-wicking and quick-drying materials like nylon or polyester. These fabrics will keep you cool and dry during your outdoor activities.

2. Breathable Tops: Choose lightweight and breathable tops that allow for airflow and ventilation. Look for moisture-wicking properties to keep you comfortable during physical activities.

3. Sports Bras: For ladies, a supportive sports bra is essential for active excursions. Choose one with adequate support and moisture-wicking capabilities.

4. Hiking or Walking Shoes: Depending on the type of excursions you’ll be embarking on, it’s important to have sturdy and comfortable footwear. Opt for closed-toe shoes with good traction for hiking or explore options with excellent arch support for walking tours.

5. Socks: Don’t forget to pack moisture-wicking socks to keep your feet dry and prevent blisters during long walks or hikes.

6. Light Rain Jacket: Be prepared for unexpected weather changes by packing a lightweight and packable rain jacket. This will keep you dry in case of light rain or drizzle.

7. Sun Protection: Don’t underestimate the importance of sun protection during outdoor activities. Pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun’s rays.

8. Layers: Depending on the climate of your destination, layering clothing can be helpful. Pack a lightweight jacket or long-sleeved shirt that you can easily throw on or remove as needed.

Remember to check the specifics of your shore excursions to determine if any additional gear or clothing items are required. It’s always better to be prepared and comfortable while engaging in active adventures during your Virgin Voyage cruise.

Evening Wear for Dining and Entertainment

When the sun sets and the night comes alive on your Virgin Voyage cruise, it’s time to dress up for the evening dining and entertainment experiences. While the atmosphere on board is generally relaxed and casual, there are still opportunities to showcase your style and enjoy a sophisticated evening. Here’s what you need to know about choosing the right evening wear:

1. Smart-Casual Attire: Most evenings on board Virgin Voyages can be described as smart-casual. This means you can opt for a polished yet comfortable ensemble. Think elegant and stylish, but not overly formal. Ladies can consider a nice dress or a stylish pantsuit, while men can opt for slacks or chinos paired with a button-down shirt.

2. Little Black Dress: A little black dress is always a classic option for evening events. Choose a style that suits your personal taste and flatters your figure. You can elevate the look with accessories and a pair of statement heels.

3. Blouses and Dressy Bottoms: For a more relaxed yet still sophisticated look, pair a dressy blouse with tailored pants or a skirt. This combination offers versatility and allows you to create different outfits with a few key pieces.

4. Collared Shirts and Blazers: Men can achieve a refined look with a collared shirt and dress pants. Consider adding a blazer for a touch of elegance and sophistication.

5. Accessories and Details: Don’t forget to accessorize your evening wear to add a personal touch. Statement jewelry, a clutch or small handbag, and a chic pair of shoes can elevate your outfit and make it stand out.

6. Formal Nights: While most evenings are smart-casual, Virgin Voyages also offers formal nights for those looking for an opportunity to dazzle. On formal nights, you can don your elegant cocktail dress or a sharp suit. Have fun dressing up and enjoying the glamorous atmosphere.

Remember, the key to evening wear is to feel comfortable and confident in your chosen outfit. Embrace your personal style and make fashion choices that reflect your preferences while adhering to the dress code guidelines. By dressing appropriately for the evening, you’ll be ready to indulge in the delectable dining options and captivating entertainment that Virgin Voyages has to offer.

Accessories to Complete Your Cruise Wardrobe

To complete your cruise wardrobe and add those finishing touches to your outfits, accessories are key. They can elevate your look, add personality, and provide functional benefits. Here are some essential accessories to consider packing for your Virgin Voyage cruise:

1. Jewelry: Bring a variety of jewelry pieces to accessorize your outfits. Statement necklaces, elegant earrings, and delicate bracelets can add a touch of glamour to your attire. Don’t forget to pack versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched effortlessly.

2. Belts: Belts can be both functional and stylish. They can cinch your waist, define your silhouette, and add a pop of color to your outfit. Opt for skinny, wide, or woven belts to suit different looks.

3. Scarves: Scarves are versatile accessories that can be worn in various ways. They can add a pop of color, provide warmth on cooler evenings, or be tied as a headband or sarong for a beachy look. Don’t forget to pack a lightweight and easy-to-pack scarf for those unexpected uses.

4. Handbags: Your choice of handbag will depend on the occasion and your personal preferences. Consider packing a small crossbody bag or a clutch for evenings out, a beach tote for pool days, and a versatile day bag for exploring ports of call.

5. Sunglasses: In addition to protecting your eyes from the sun, sunglasses are a stylish accessory. Choose a pair that complements your face shape and consider polarized lenses for added glare reduction.

6. Hats: Hats serve both a functional and fashionable purpose. They shield you from the sun’s rays and add a stylish touch to your outfit. Pack a wide-brimmed hat for beach days and a trendy hat like a fedora or a Panama hat for a chic look.

7. Watches: A watch not only helps you keep track of time but can also be a sophisticated accessory. Choose a style that suits your personal taste and complements your outfits.

8. Hair Accessories: Hair accessories like headbands, hairpins, and scrunchies can add a playful or elegant touch to your hairstyle. They are perfect for changing up your look and keeping your hair in place during windy days.

Remember, accessories allow you to express your personal style and enhance your overall look. Mix and match them wisely to create different outfits and transform your cruise wardrobe. Be mindful of the space limitations in your luggage but also have fun experimenting with different accessories to create stunning ensembles.

Packing Tips and Recommendations

Packing for your Virgin Voyage cruise can be an exciting but sometimes daunting task. Here are some helpful tips and recommendations to ensure a smooth and organized packing process:

  • Create a packing checklist: Before you start packing, make a checklist of essential items you’ll need for your cruise. This will help you stay organized and ensure that you don’t forget anything important.
  • Consider the dress code: Familiarize yourself with the dress code guidelines provided by Virgin Voyages. This will help you determine the appropriate clothing items to bring, whether it’s casual wear for daytime activities or formal attire for special evenings.
  • Plan your outfits: To avoid overpacking, plan your outfits in advance. Mix and match clothing items to create different looks and maximize your wardrobe options. This will also help you pack more efficiently.
  • Roll your clothes: Rolling your clothes instead of folding them can save space in your suitcase and help prevent wrinkles. This technique also makes it easier to see and access your clothing items.
  • Bring a travel-sized laundry detergent: Packing a small travel-sized laundry detergent can come in handy if you want to wash some clothes during your cruise. This can help you pack lighter and have fresh clothes throughout your trip.
  • Invest in packing cubes: Packing cubes are a great investment for keeping your suitcase organized. Separate your clothing items into different cubes according to type or outfit to make it easier to locate what you need without rummaging through your entire suitcase.
  • Don’t forget the essentials: Aside from clothing, make sure to bring important essentials like travel documents, toiletries, medication, electronics, and chargers. Double-check that you have everything you need before leaving for your cruise.
  • Leave room for souvenirs: If you plan on shopping or collecting souvenirs during your cruise, make sure to leave some space in your suitcase. Consider bringing a foldable tote or an extra bag to accommodate any additional items you may acquire.
  • Check baggage restrictions: Familiarize yourself with the baggage restrictions imposed by your airline or cruise line. Be aware of weight and size limits to avoid any extra fees or inconveniences.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle: Staying hydrated is important during your cruise. Bringing a reusable water bottle will not only help you stay refreshed but also help reduce plastic waste on board.

Remember, packing efficiently and thoughtfully will contribute to a stress-free and enjoyable cruise experience. It’s always better to pack smartly and have everything you need rather than overpacking and dealing with unnecessary items. Bon voyage!

Preparing for a Virgin Voyage cruise involves more than just booking your tickets and packing your bags. By carefully selecting the right clothing items and accessories, you can ensure a comfortable, stylish, and enjoyable vacation. From comfortable and casual outfits for daytime activities to formal wear for special occasions, each aspect of your cruise wardrobe plays a vital role in creating memorable experiences.

Remember to consider the dress code guidelines provided by Virgin Voyages and plan your outfits accordingly. Pack versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched to create different looks, allowing you to transition seamlessly from day to night. Don’t forget to bring essential accessories such as jewelry, hats, and sunglasses to complete your ensembles.

When packing, stay organized by creating a checklist, rolling your clothes, and utilizing packing cubes. Consider the activities and excursions you’ll be participating in and pack practical clothing items for those adventures. Leave room in your suitcase for souvenirs and be mindful of baggage restrictions to avoid any issues during travel.

Ultimately, the key to packing for your Virgin Voyage cruise is finding the balance between comfort and style. By curating a wardrobe that suits your personal taste and embraces the atmosphere of your cruise, you’ll be ready to embark on an incredible journey with memories that will last a lifetime.

No dress code? No problem. How to dress on a Virgin Voyages cruise.

It’s the question that always seems to crop up no matter what situation we find ourselves in: what do I wear on a cruise? For some, especially sailors on there very first cruise , the question engenders excitement and endless possibilities. It signals the opportunity for creativity and getting fun and funky with your style. For others it means a headache, prompting late-night Google sessions to figure out an appropriate outfit. When it comes to what to wear on a cruise, there’s good news — you don’t have to stress. At least, not on a Virgin Voyages cruise. We have no dress code, or formal night, but if you do enjoy dressing up, there are plenty of opportunities for creative fun; like date nights at our fancy restaurants, a fun and exciting shipwide pajama party, and Scarlet Night. The best part? There’s no wrong way to dress on our cruises.

We throw dress codes overboard

Sure, sometimes dressing up can be nice. But we believe that the obligation for wearing cocktail dresses, suits, and ties, belong at weddings and funerals — not on vacation. This isn’t the Titanic in 1912, where the onboard experience is defined by a class system rife with social posturing. Our voyages are casual, inclusive, come-as-you-are experiences where what you wear doesn’t matter nearly as much as how much fun you’re having.

But what does that really mean? It means we don’t have a traditional dining room with a formal dinner requiring formal dress. It means that even at our 20+ restaurants — some of which, like The Wake, have a decidedly elevated feel — you can wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Just came from the pool deck in a bathing suit and flip flops? Fine by us. Heading to a shipwide pajama party later and feel like eating dinner in your PJs? More power to you.

BUT, if you do relish the chance to dress up and wear something other than casual everyday attire, we’ve got you covered. Between shows in the Red Room, nightclub nights in The Manor, and special events like our pajama party, there are plenty of ways to get creative. The most exciting is probably Scarlet Night , a special night on each of our voyages where everyone does their craziest, sexiest, comfiest (you name it) red outfit and jumps into the pool together. While the “Scarlet Night Virgin Voyages dress code” is technically just “wearing red,” there are endless opportunities to get creative with your outfit and express your individual style.

Dress like you on our exclusively adult voyages

So without a dress code for guidance, you’re wondering: What to wear on Virgin Voyages? That’s the beauty of it. You can wear whatever you want. Think of it this way: our dress code is whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself. Maybe that’s a suit and tie. Maybe that’s a jogging suit, gym attire, or a bathrobe.

Obviously, comfort is huge. Before anything else, wear what makes you feel comfortable and cozy. But that doesn’t mean you should confine yourself to what you wear in your everyday life. An adults-only cruise is an opportunity to take risks, maybe even wearing outfits you might not feel comfortable wearing around friends or family. The best part about deciding what to wear on an adult-only cruise? There is no normal. Anything goes. So do that glittering vest you’ve never wanted to wear to your hometown bar, and grab a specialty cocktail in our Red Bar; or saunter down to the Dock House in your bathrobe, straight off a relaxing spa day, for some mezze bites.

Our “dress code” comes down to one simple philosophy: If it feels good — wear it!

Clothing suggestions & packing for a cruise

Okay, there might not be a right or wrong way to dress, but you still have to wear something . Having ultimate freedom, with no restrictions or guidelines, can actually make the packing process even tougher. We’re here to help.

No matter where you’re sailing with us, it’s a good idea to pack for warmer weather. That means sandals, swimsuits, sundresses, sunhats, etc. Flowing, loosely-fitting fabrics that won’t make you overheat while walking around on a city tour are an absolute must. Consider what might look nice in photos , too. If you’re heading to Santorini, it might be a good idea to bust out that vibrant blue sundress or stylish red linen shirt to contrast with the whitewashed Cycladic architecture. If you’ll be walking the parapets of Castillo San Cristobal in San Juan, a flowing white dress that’ll catch the sea breeze would make for a majestic photo-op against the Caribbean backdrop. Photo-worthiness shouldn’t be your only consideration — comfort and practicality are more important — but it can help narrow down your wardrobe and offer some guidelines.

Understanding Cruise Dress Codes

Understanding the dress code is essential when it comes to how to dress on a cruise. Cruise lines have specific dress codes that passengers must adhere to during their voyages. These dress codes can vary depending on the cruise line and even the particular ship.

Formal Dress in Cruise

Cruise Line-Specific Dress Codes

Let’s take a look at some of the most common cruise line dress codes:

  • Cruise Casual: This dress code is typically in effect during the day and in port. The relaxed dress code allows for casual attire such as shorts, t-shirts, and sundresses.
  • Cruise Elegant: This dress code is typically in effect on one or two nights during the cruise. A more formal dress code requires dressier attire, such as cocktail dresses, suits, and ties.
  • Evening Chic Dress Code: This dress code is used by some cruise lines and is similar to cruise elegance. It allows for more modern and fashionable attire such as jumpsuits, dressy separates, and little black dresses.
  • Resort Casual: This dress code is used by some cruise lines and is a step up from cruise casual. It allows for more upscale attire like collared shirts, sundresses, and dress shorts.
  • Cunard : Cunard has a more formal dress code than most other cruise lines. Most nights require formal attire, including gowns, tuxedos, and suits.
  • Royal Caribbean : Royal Caribbean has a more relaxed dress code than other cruise lines. It allows for casual attire in most areas of the ship but has dressier dress codes for specific venues and events.
  • Celebrity Cruises : Celebrity Cruises has a dress code similar to Royal Caribbean. It allows for casual attire in most areas of the ship but has dressier dress codes for specific venues and events.
  • Disney Cruise Line : Disney Cruise Line has a dress code similar to Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. It allows for casual attire in most areas of the ship but has dressier dress codes for specific venues and events.
  • Princess Cruises : Princess Cruises has a dress code similar to Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. It allows for casual attire in most areas of the ship but has dressier dress codes for specific venues and events.

It is important to note that dress codes can vary by ship and itinerary, so it is always a good idea to check with your cruise line before you pack to ensure that you have the appropriate attire for your specific cruise.

How to Dress on a Cruise during the Daytime

When it comes to daytime dressing on a cruise, comfort is vital. You want to wear clothes that are easy to move around and won’t make you feel too hot or cold. Here are some tips on how to dress on a cruise during the day:

  • Daywear: During the day, you can wear casual clothes like jeans, shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops. However, keep in mind that some cruise lines have dress codes, so make sure to check before you pack.

Relaxing Outfit in Cruise

  • Swimwear: You’ll spend a lot of time by the pool or beach, so pack a few bathing suits. You can also bring cover-ups or a sarong to wear over your bathing suit when you’re not in the water.

Swimwear in Cruise

  • Footwear: Bring comfortable shoes for walking around the ship and going on excursions. Sandals, flip-flops, and sneakers are all excellent options. If you plan on doing water activities like snorkeling or kayaking, consider bringing water shoes.
  • Hats: Caps and baseball caps protect your face from the sun. However, some cruise lines may not allow hats in some regions of the ship, so check before you pack.

Simple Dress in Cruise

  • Gym and Sports: If you plan on working out or participating in onboard activities like rock climbing or basketball, pack gym shorts, and sportswear.

Overall, daytime dressing on a cruise is all about being comfortable while still looking presentable. Remember to check your cruise line’s dress code before you pack, and bring clothes appropriate for the activities you plan on doing.

How to Dress on a Cruise during the Evening

When it comes to evening dressing on a cruise, there are a few different dress codes to remember. Depending on the cruise line, you may have one or more formal nights and smart casual and casual dress codes for other evenings.

You’ll want to dress up in your best formal wear on formal nights. This could mean a cocktail dress or evening gown for women and a suit, tie, or tuxedo for men. If you need help deciding what to wear, check with your cruise line for specific guidelines and recommendations.

Evening Gown in Cruise

You can still dress up for smart casual evenings, but not as formal as on formal nights. Women can wear elegant skirts, blouses, or pantsuits, while men can wear long pants and collared shirts. Khakis are also acceptable for men on smart casual evenings.

You can dress more comfortably in casual pants or jeans and a nice shirt or polo on casual evenings. Remember that even on casual evenings, some cruise lines may still have dress codes prohibiting things like cut-off shorts or flip-flops in some regions of the ship.

If you’re unsure what to wear, it’s always better to err over being overdressed rather than underdressed. You can also check with your cruise line or travel agent for specific recommendations on what to pack and wear each evening.

Dressing for Dining on a Cruise

When it comes to dressing for dining on a cruise, there are a few things to remember to ensure you’re dressed appropriately for the occasion. Here’s how to dress on a cruise for dining:

1. Check the dress code: Different cruise lines have different dress codes, so checking the dress code for the restaurant you’re planning to dine in is essential. Some restaurants may require formal attire, while others may allow more casual attire.

2. Pack accordingly: Pack appropriate attire for each restaurant you plan to dine in. If a restaurant requires formal attire, pack a suit or evening gown. If the dress code is casual, pack slacks and a nice shirt or blouse.

3. Specialty restaurants: Some cruise lines have specialty restaurants that require a higher level of dress, such as white tablecloths and more formal attire. Check the dress code beforehand if you plan to dine in one of these restaurants.

4. Casual attire: Some restaurants on a cruise may allow for more casual attire, such as shorts and t-shirts. However, it’s still important to dress appropriately and avoid anything too revealing or inappropriate.

5. Evening chic dress code: Some cruise lines have introduced an “evening chic” dress code, allowing for more relaxed attire while maintaining a sense of elegance. This dress code typically allows for slacks, a blouse, a sundress for women, and a collared shirt for men.

You must check the dress code for each restaurant you plan to dine in and pack accordingly. Whether you’re dressing up for a formal evening or keeping it casual, knowing how to dress on a cruise for dining will ensure you’re comfortable and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Dressing for Different Cruise Locations

When it comes to dressing for a cruise, it’s essential to consider the location of your cruise. Different cruise destinations require other attire, so it’s necessary to pack accordingly. Here’s a breakdown of what to wear on a cruise based on your goal.

Caribbean Cruise Dressing

If you’re headed on a Caribbean cruise, you’ll want to pack lightweight, tropical clothing. Think sundresses, tropical shirts, and sandals. Remember to bring swimwear for beach days and excursions. Remember that some cruise lines have dress codes, so check before packing.

Alaska Cruise Dressing

For an Alaska cruise, you’ll want to pack for cooler temperatures. Bring a rain jacket, fleece, wick-away layers, comfortable walking shoes, and boots and gloves for glacier excursions. Remember to check with your cruise line for specific dress codes.

European Cruise Dressing

If you’re taking a European cruise, dressing conservatively is essential. Bring suits and ties for formal events and comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing. You’ll also want to pack layers as temperatures vary throughout the day. Check with your cruise line for any specific dress codes.

Remember, how to dress on a cruise depends on your destination. Be sure to pack for the climate and activities you’ll be doing. With some planning, you can ensure you’re dressed appropriately for your cruise vacation.

Shore Excursion Dressing

When planning how to dress on a cruise, it’s essential to consider what you’ll wear during shore excursions. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, especially if you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Closed-toe shoes are also recommended, particularly for excursions with uneven terrain or where you may be climbing stairs.

Shore Excursion Dress

Water shoes are a great option if your shore excursion involves water activities, such as snorkeling or kayaking. These shoes have a non-slip sole and are designed to be worn in the water. They’ll protect your feet from sharp rocks or other hazards you may encounter while exploring.

Bringing a lightweight rain jacket in inclement weather is also a good idea. Even if the forecast calls for sunny skies, it’s always better to be prepared. A long sleeve shirt or sweater can also be helpful if the weather turns chilly.

Regarding bottoms, long pants or capris are ideal for excursions where you may be hiking or exploring areas with tall grass or brush. They’ll protect your legs from scratches and insect bites. If you’re headed to the beach, shorts are a great option, but be sure to bring a cover-up or sarong over your swimsuit when you’re not in the water.

cover up or sarong over your swimsuit

Overall, when deciding how to dress on a cruise for shore excursions, comfort and practicality should be your top priorities. You can enjoy your adventures to the fullest with the proper clothing and footwear.

What Not to Wear on a Cruise

When it comes to how to dress on a cruise, there are certain things that you should avoid wearing. Here are some items that you should not pack in your cruise suitcase:

  • Cut-off Jeans : While shorts are generally acceptable on a cruise, cut-off jeans are not. Opt for a pair of nice shorts instead.
  • Gym Shorts: Wearing gym shorts on a cruise is a no-no. Instead, pack a pair of comfortable shorts that you can wear during the day.
  • Pajamas: While it may be tempting to wear them to breakfast or around the ship, it’s inappropriate. Save your pajamas for sleeping and wear regular clothes during the day.
  • Slippers and Bare Feet: Walking around the ship in slippers or bare feet is prohibited. Make sure to pack a pair of comfortable shoes that you can wear around the ship.
  • Speedos : Unless you’re an Olympic swimmer, leave your speedos home. Opt for a pair of swim trunks instead.

It’s important to remember that cruise lines have dress codes that they expect their passengers to follow. While some cruise lines are more relaxed than others, it’s always a good idea to err on the side of caution and dress appropriately. Following these guidelines on what not to wear on a cruise will give you a comfortable and enjoyable vacation.

Packing for a Cruise

When packing for a cruise, it’s essential to pack smart and light. You want to avoid lugging around heavy suitcases while trying to enjoy your vacation. Here are some tips on what to pack for a cruise:

How to dress on a cruise is a common question, and the answer depends on the cruise line and the itinerary. Most cruises have a mix of casual and formal dress codes. During the day, you can wear casual clothing like shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, and slacks. For the evening, you’ll need to dress up a bit more. On formal nights, you can wear a suit or a cocktail dress. On other nights, you can wear nice jeans with a blouse or a button-down shirt.

It’s also a good idea to pack versatile clothes that can be mixed and matched. Pack clothes that can be layered to be prepared for different temperatures. And remember to pack comfortable shoes for walking around the ship and shore excursions.

Accessories

When it comes to accessories, less is more. You want to be able to handle the amount of jewelry and bulky accessories. Packaging a watch’s a good idea, so you can keep track of time and not miss any activities. Also, pack a lightweight robe for lounging in your cabin or going to the spa.

Most cruise ships provide basic toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and soap. However, if you prefer specific products, it’s a good idea to pack them. Remember to pack sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for days spent on deck.

First Cruise

If this is your first cruise, you might wonder what to expect. Check with the cruise line to see if they have any specific dress codes or recommendations. You can also ask other passengers on online forums or social media groups. Remember to pack light and bring clothes that are comfortable and versatile.

In conclusion, packing for a cruise doesn’t have to be stressful. Just remember to pack smart and light, and bring versatile and comfortable clothes. And don’t forget to pack a watch, sunscreen, and a lightweight robe.

Indulge in opulent voyages with the best luxury cruise lines and 6-star cruise ships . Experience unmatched elegance and personalized service on small ship cruises .

The Vogue Guide to Formal Attire

By Shelby Ying Hyde

The Vogue Guide to Formal Attire

There’s nothing quite like the mini stomach flip that comes from seeing the words “formal attire” printed on an invitation . First comes the excitement of having an opportunity to get all dolled up. Then, the panic of not knowing what that really means.

By today’s standards, the lines can get a bit blurry, especially with all the subsect requirements; see also, ‘beach formal’ . To help clear up any confusion, formal attire is usually reserved for evening events–though like anything else there are exceptions. Aside from weddings or the occasional gala, there are many reasons why one would need formal attire in their arsenal. We’re in the age of opulent birthday, holiday, and niche-themed parties being the norm on social media, some of which require a more polished dress code.

One of the first things to note is that there are levels to formal attire and understanding the differences will go a long way. There’s semi-formal, which is often conflated with cocktail dress codes . Whereas, formal as a blanket term is considered slightly less elevated than black tie and the more rare, ‘ white tie ’ requirements–unless noted otherwise by the host of the event, of course. (In instances like this, the exact requirements are usually explicitly stated on the invitation or save the date.)

When it comes to the history of formal attire, much like any other dress code, its roots are rich. According to Jovani , the way of dress is riddled with aristocratic and military-inspired details. “These two sources have shaped the way formal wear is designed and worn today, from the fabrics used to the silhouettes and colors. Traditional elements of formal wear have been adapted to fit modern trends, creating a timeless look.” Its earliest beginnings can be traced back to 19th Century Europe and America with origins linked to one George Bryan “Beau” Brummell –who Gentleman's Gazette calls the first ever menswear influencer. A dandy by trade, he’s revered for his friendship with George Prince of Wales and innovative style that we now acknowledge as formal wear.

The upper class began sporting this more elevated attire for evening events–this included dark colors like the more traditional shades of black and blue. Men were wearing corsets and short dresses with skinny trousers underneath–most women wore the latter, too. Over time, as the concept of formal wear evolved so did the pieces themselves. The almost theatrical approach, complete with powder white wigs, opulent outerwear and hosiery, eventually turned into double-breasted coats, and trousers with stripes. Style in the 1920s further solidified this subtle shift towards simplicity. Hemlines continued to rise, with the start of World War I and the women’s suffrage movement.

By World War II formal attire looked completely different than it had during the Regency Era nearly a century before. Famed designers like Coco Chanel and revolutionized formal clothing with inventions like the ‘little black dress ’ and Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’ era. Then, thanks to the boom in the ready-to-wear market and department stores, evening wear was becoming more affordable which meant it was no longer reserved for the rich. This accessibility aided in the development of dress codes as a social norm, particularly as it pertains to the special occasions on our calendars. Most interestingly, though, is the ways in which formal attire has adapted to fit the needs of society at the time.

Tbilisi designer David Koma further confirmed these sentiments, adding that these changes in the formal wear market were in direct response to the shift in cultural dynamics and forever changing consumer preferences. “While traditional notions of elegance and sophistication remain timeless, there has been a noticeable shift towards more diverse and inclusive representations of beauty and femininity,” he explains. “Designers are increasingly embracing innovative techniques and diverse perspectives to meet the evolving needs.”

In the present day, the requirements for evening wear are relatively straightforward once you understand what type of formality you’re working with. At a base level, women should opt for dresses that fall well below the knee; in some cases a floor or ankle-length option might be more appropriate. However, if a free-flowing frock isn’t your thing, a sharply-tailored suit has proved to be a great options for both men and women–think of the posh Dior tuxedo that Sarah Jessica Parker ’s character Carrie Bradshaw wore in the opening scenes of the second Sex and the City movie, with platform stilettos nonetheless. A jumpsuit with capped sleeves or thick shoulder straps, as well as full ball skirts a lá Kendall Jenner at the Met Gala , are also suitable alternatives.

Unless you’re attending a beach ceremony, we suggest steering clear of fabrics like cotton-poplin or gauzy linen, as it has a casualness about it that will appear out of place in more traditional settings. In its place, consider more stately materials like tulle or duchess satin and crepe de chine. Embellishments aren’t necessarily a stipulation but are encouraged if you want to stand out. Sequin beads and delicate embroidery are some of the most common adornments–though feathers and fil-coupe are thrown in the mix from time to time, as well. For Koma, this attention to details is paramount when crafting modern-day formal pieces. “Every stitch, every seam, and every embellishment is meticulously considered to ensure that each garment exudes a sense of sophistication and refinement while instilling confidence and empowerment in the wearer,” he explains.

When it comes to outfit accompaniments, clutch bags are meant to fit comfortably under your arm as your schmooze, while still offering just enough space for your evening essentials. Judith Lieber is great for kitschy, Swarovski statement clutches in novelty designs; Nina has been making collections of formal-friendly bags and shoes from luxe looking materials like satin since 1953. In terms of footwear, stilettos are an obvious choice, though you shouldn’t immediately write off a short kitten heel and the wearability it offers–especially when dancing is imminent.

To Koma, formal attire is transformative and empowers the wearer, "imbuing them with a sense of confidence and grace. Whether it's the fluidity of movement, the precision of tailoring, or the unexpected embellishments that catch the eye, a truly great [piece] leaves a lasting impression.”

Even Off Camera, Zendaya Dresses the Part

The actress is known for thematic dressing to promote her movies. After her “Dune” desert epic, comes a tennis love triangle, “Challengers.”

Iga Swiatek and Zendaya, both dressed in tennis whites, pose with Ms. Swiatek’s silver winner’s trophy.

By Jessica Testa

In “Challengers,” Zendaya plays a tennis star named Tashi Duncan. Her clothes are central to her identity; the character is sponsored by Adidas and costumed in sporty-and-rich outfits by the designer Jonathan Anderson .

“She’ll have a fashion line,” one of Tashi’s suitors predicts to another in the trailer . “She is going to turn her whole family into millionaires.”

Fashion is equally important to the real-life Zendaya — a tool of both image-making and moneymaking. She has become a defining star of the modern movie press tour. Coverage of these appearances can be feverish, with thousands of articles and social-media posts produced for each stop: a premiere in New York, a photo call in Mexico City, a news conference in Seoul.

The fever rises when actors lean into thematic dressing. The cast of “Barbie” drowned themselves in pink, ripping looks straight from vintage toy boxes. The stars of “Madame Web” wrapped themselves in blingy netted gowns. Kristen Stewart wore very little to promote her erotic thriller “Love Lies Bleeding.”

Still, few can generate quite as much attention as Zendaya, who, for example, wore a vintage robot suit by Mugler to the London premiere of “Dune: Part Two” in February. (Her apparent theme for this press tour: futuristic desert warrior queen.) From this single moment, the data analytics company Launchmetrics valued the media impact for Mugler to be worth $13.3 million, according to Women’s Wear Daily .

Yet despite her commitment to cosplay, Zendaya has not been wearing Adidas in the lead-up to “Challengers,” the Luca Guadagnino film that will have its premiere in late March. She is wearing preppy looks made by her real sponsor, Louis Vuitton, a luxury brand increasingly enmeshed in the sports world .

For a promotional image released on March 12, Zendaya wore a buttery sweater with a deep V neckline, relaxed white shorts and white pumps — like the most formidable stepmom at the country club, down to her long blown-out bob. Her stylist, the image architect Law Roach, credited Louis Vuitton and Bulgari for the outfit.

Then, on March 17, Zendaya attended the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., to watch the women’s final. Louis Vuitton dressed her again in tennis whites: a pullover, a tank top and a pleated skort. She accessorized with white sneakers, a small monogram purse — its attached neon yellow coin purse looked like a tennis ball — and her boyfriend, the actor Tom Holland. They sang along to Whitney Houston in their seats.

Zendaya, who trained for “Challengers” with the famed coach Brad Gilbert , later posed for photos with Iga Swiatek, winner of the match and the sport’s top-ranked women’s player.

She looked more at ease in her Sunday “ tenniscore ,” breaking from the severity of her “Dune” chapter. It wasn’t just her cyborg looks that made her seem otherworldly. (That Mugler fembot costume was followed by a vintage circuit-board Givenchy skirt set.) Crisp white gowns from Alaïa (in Paris) and Stéphane Rolland (in New York) also gave her the gravitas of a sci-fi empress at a state dinner.

Now she’s coming back down to earth. Or at least the tennis court. As Ms. Swiatek observed after her victory: “Meeting Zendaya was crazy, but on the other hand, she’s a human like all of us.”

Milwaukee fashion designer says thief stole handmade prom dress from recent pop-up shop.

'I was just in shock that someone would actually take something from me,' designer Jeanie Hughes told WISN 12 News Thursday

A Milwaukee fashion designer said a thief stole a $1,500 handmade prom dress from her collection at a recent pop-up shop.

Following back surgery in 2012, a hobby turned into a career for Jeanie Hughes. The new owner of Visie Clothing is creating countless statement pieces for big events like prom.

"The looks on their faces, just to be a part of their special day," Hughes told WISN 12 News Thursday.

She sells some of the dresses online. Others are sold at pop-up shops where she offers a deal.

"Everyone is not in the same financial status, you know, especially in the Milwaukee community," Hughes said. "A lot of people can't afford a ... $1,400 dress, so why not give them the opportunity to look just as good in a $500 dress?"

On Sunday, Hughes was at one of those sale events on Milwaukee's east side with fellow "sew sister" Emani Williams of Haute Allure.

“We have all of our dresses on racks, on mannequins and they just shop around," Williams said.

It was by the end of the busy event they realized one of Hughes' dresses was missing.

"I noticed I didn't see the color purple in my rack," Hughes said. "I don't remember selling it!"

She's talking about a homemade prom dress she made worth $1,500. She was selling it for $850 at the pop-up event. Looking back, Hughes recalled a specific moment with someone toward the start of the event.

"She called me over to her and had me answer a bunch of questions. And then she took off the dress and said 'OK, thank you,' and her and the group left," Hughes said. "That's when in retrospect, OK, I was being distracted for her friends to take the garment."

Both Hughes and Williams said the incident will not stop them from holding pop-up events like the one Sunday.

"It’s not going to discourage us from continuing the pop-up," Williams said. "I just think that in the future, we will be kind of strict on the way we handle things as far as security is concerned.”

Hughes said she did not alert police.

"Why not," WISN 12 News Hannah Hilyard asked her.

"Because people make mistakes," she said.

Hughes forgives the thief.

Instead, the local fashion designers are using unexpected attention to let customers it's okay to ask for help.

"There's nothing wrong with asking... Is it something we can work out? We can make payments," Hughes said. "I would have done anything to get her into a dress. I've never turned anyone away."

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

voyage style dress

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
