Antelope CANYON TOUR RATES:

Tour schedule*.

Chief Tsosie's guides know all the hot spots and they will guide you through an amazing natural wonder of Antelope Canyon. They will provide you with the secret knowledge of photographing the beams and dance with the sand. We will have little chance to be alone in the canyon on this tour, nor will we be able to hear the quiet that some of the other tour-times provide, but this tour is a photographic extravaganza. We believe we have the best time starting at 10:30 am for photographing the canyon. We get the early development of the light beams and stay until the beams start to lift off the canyon floor. This tour is lead with precision and experience.    more info

10:20 am (peak hour) - This is the prime sunbeam tour. The colors are uniform throughout the canyon and visibility is good. If some of the colors are not as brilliant, be assured that at their worst, they are spectacular. We linger at the sunbeams which pour down like heavenly messages. We will have little chance to be alone in the canyon on this tour, nor will we be able to hear the quite that some of the other tour-times provide, but this is a visual extravaganza. Sunbeam comes in from April 1 - Sept 30.

12:25 pm (peak hour) - The colors are very similar to the late morning tour, but the north end is slowly becoming the brightest, most colorful end. Some of the people are beginning to thin out, which allows you a more personal experience. A marvelous blend of color, shape, and majesty will strike you on this tour!

2:30 pm - The richness of color in the afternoon rivals the morning. Calming and still, the canyon becomes clear of other adventures. There is a good chance that you will have parts of the canyon all to yourself. It is a time to pause for reflection in a spiritual wonderland, let the quiet and color soak into your bone marrow, and take a bit of the canyon into your heart.

***Please Note:   If you are taking the Upper and Lower Tours on the same day, you only pay the Navajo Permit fee once. Just show your receipt at the Lower Antelope tour booth and the fee will be waived.

Antelope Canyon

Nature's beauty.

Antelope Canyon with the famous light beams near Lechee Arizona on the Navajo Nation

Antelope Canyon, located near Page, Arizona is home to one of nature’s most wondrous creations – the slot canyon. Carved from the red sandstone for millennia by seasonal flood rains and wind, the canyons are narrow passageways that lead several hundred feet away from the mouth. The gorgeous sloping angles of the rocks – coupled with the shifts of light that make their way down from the rim of the canyon – combine for a scene that cannot be fully explained with words. Only 8 to 12 feet wide along the sandy floor, the slot canyons have been featured in Hollywood films and magazine publications around the world. But none of those images can match the one you’ll experience when you step into the canyons and see this wonder for yourself.

To the Navajo, we call the Upper Antelope Canyon – Tsé’bighanilí – which means “The place where water runs through.” For Lower Antelope Canyon, we call this place Hasdestwazi – which means “Spiral Rock Arches.”

The best times to visit:

  • If you are looking to take  photos of the sun beaming into the canyon , book a tour with the tour groups in Upper Antelope Canyon around 11am to 1pm for the months of March to October. To get extra time in the canyon, book a tour with a photography group – there may be an extra fee to book this type of tour.
  • If you want to do a  little hiking and want a little more seclusion , book a tour for the Lower Antelope Canyon area. This portion is not as busy as the Upper Antelope Canyon.
  • If you want less tourists,  visit during the months of November to March.

For viewing the Antelope Canyon, a permit and a tour guide is required . The tour group will assist you in purchasing the permit.

WARNING: Flash flooding can happen at any time. Please heed the warnings placed by the local tour companies and emergency messages announced by the Navajo Parks & Recreation Department for your safety.

Antelope Slot Canyon : Chief Tsosie Tour

My wife and I arrived in Page on Wednesday (10/03/97) in the afternoon, Chief Tsosie had a later tour which was scheduled for 5:00 PM but was rescheduled to 4:30 due to the sunlight. The Navajo guide was extremenly knowledgeable as he was actually from Page (although well travelled) The slot canyon was extremely beautiful and it was realxing as there was only one other couple besides us. Therefore the five us had the canyon all to ourselves. I was amazed at the shapes and colors of the canyons. We met at the Chief's store in Page and the guide drove us to the Antelope Slot Canyon. Highly recommended.

I read the negative reviews and think the problem is the busy crowds during the busy season. We went on October 17th when the weather was spectacular but the crowds were light. We used antelopecanyon.com tours and our guide, Irene, was outstanding. She allowed time for each person to take as many photos as we wanted AND she even offered to take pictures for all on our group (using our cameras) since she knew where to stand and what settings to use. After we walked through with her, she gave us ample time to walk back through on our own for even more views and photos. I think the key is to use the tours in town and have them drive you out.. It cost exactly the same as if you drive out to the site and have a guide assigned to you there. What you will see here is spectacular and worth the long tedious drive (from ANYWHERE) to Page. By the way, there is nothing else to do in Page so one night is enough!!!!

As we were staying 1 day in Page as part of an extended hiking tour - we decided to include a trip Antelope canyon. It easy to get there from Page. We paid $8 per person entry fee. Then queued at the cabin to pay the $20 tour guide each (aka truck taxi fee). We would have prefered to hike the 3.5 miles to the canyon - but this is not an option. We were advised we would be waiting for 20 minutes before the truck left. We thought there would be a shuttle each time a truck was filled - but this is not the case. 20 minutes later - a list of names were read out - in order of first come first served (fair enough). 36 people were loaded onto 3 trucks which all set of together. We - along with a number of other people asked again how long we would have to wait and were then told we would have to wait at least another hour for the next tour slot. To add injury to insult - tours were arriving from Page and going straight in without the wait. Looking at the number of people all being 'delivered' together and the length of waiting time in the hot sun (with few facilities), along with a number of other people, we decided to cancel our tour. We were not the only ones who did this. The total price of $28 dollars each is considerably more than other parks etc in the area (although this one is a Navajo controlled one not a state/national park) and there are other slot canyons in the area. If you really do want to visit the canyon, pay that little bit extra and get a tour from Page - then you will not be left hanging about during busy periods.

Just got back from the Antelope Slot Canyon tour that was highly recommended to us by a couple we met. The excitement and anticipation of the trip was probably the most exciting part of the trip. First you are herded into overcrowded vans, along with about another 6 van loads. Driven to the Upper slot Canyons, where your guide explains the history of the canyons. This was good, because stories make it seem more real. But once inside the actual canyon, you are rushed through to make room for all the other tourists, and the climax of the experience comes to an abrupt end when you are hustled out of the canyon and packed back into the van. Tour finished... Time lapse from the time you leave the parking lot to your return 1 1/2 hours. Although we are glad we went, the experience was overpriced and far too rushed.

antelope slot canyon tours chief tsosie

We went on the tour of Antelope Canyon with Chief Tsosie who is based in Page. We arrived at the booking office 15 minutes before our scheduled tour to start (3.00 pm), and were greeted very warmly by Chief Tsosie and his colleagues. We were the only group (4 persons) booked onto the 3.00 pm tour. We were taken out to Antelope Canyon by our guide Vere in a 4x4. Vere explained to us that she grew up around the slot canyon, and therefore knew it inside and out! We have to say, that the tour was excellent, especially as we had the canyon to ourselves, the tour was breathtaking, even at 3.00pm the light coming into the canyon was fantastic! Vere was a very knowledgeable guide, who also lent a hand with some of the photography, and knew exactly how use the light when using the camera. We thoroughly recommend anyone to take the opportunity to do this trip, and most certainly recommend Chief Tsosie's company for the tour!

After reading on the area of Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam I wasn't sure how to go about touring Antelope Canyon. There are several tour companies that take you there (it's on Navajo land so you can't just drive there yourself) but we weren't sure if it would be worth the fees they charged (around $28 per adult, a little less for children). Also we were unsure what we would see for this price. Before checking out of our motel (the Super 8 in Page) I asked the girl at the front desk what she thought of Antelope Canyon, if it was worth the price. She told us we could probably go cheaper by driving out to the entrance station ourselves, paying the entry fee to get on the reservation and then getting one of the Navajo's there to take us in. She said it was quite beautiful and we should try to see it if at all possible. We headed out there immediately where we were greeted by a Navajo by the name of Dalvin Etsitty. We had to pay the Navajo permit fee (I think it was $6.00 per person) and Mr. Etsitty charged $20 per person with children being free. We loaded up into the back of Mr. Etsitty's truck (it had a canopy over it to help shield us from the sun) and off we went through the desert! Interestingly enough we were only a short distance behind one of the tour company trucks. We arrived at Antelope Canyon and I wasn't sure if we were expected to walk through on our own or what but Mr. Etsitty gave us the BEST tour we could have possibly had! He walked us through and told us where the best spots were to stand and take photos, all the while telling us what to look for, legends of the Navajo, etc. Many times he asked for our camera and would take the shots for us. One time we were dawdling a bit in one place and when we walked up to the next place where he was waiting for us we found him helping the people that were in the tour group before us! I overheard one of them saying later that if they should ever come back there again they would be contacting him to be their tour guide. Before we left the canyon he played a beautiful song on his Indian flute. This was so much more of a tour than we ever imagined, the beauty of it alone was fantastic and with Mr. Etsitty as our guide it will be something we will remember always. We're so glad he was waiting for us that morning because we feel we got the best tour around. We ended up giving him a tip and that pretty much brought the price right up to what the tour companies charged but it was well worth it.
