Prince William Says Kate Middleton 'Always Looks Stunning' During Latest Royal Outing

The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Birmingham, where they greeted members of the public gathered outside

Prince William is still smitten with Kate Middleton !

While greeting crowds in Birmingham on Thursday, Prince William agreed when a woman told him that the Princess of Wales' outfit looked "amazing."

"Oh, she always looks stunning," the Prince of Wales agreed, as seen in a video posted on Twitter by Free Radio News and Greatest Hits Radio News .

The royal was also gifted a pack of chips by someone in the crowd. "These will keep me going on the way home. Thank you very much," Prince William said, taking the bag.

While Prince William , 40, went for a more casual look with an open-collared blue shirt and blazer, Kate, 41, sported a burgundy wrap dress by Karen Millen during their day in Birmingham . It marked their first official outing since attending church services with family on Easter ,

The away day kicked off with the couple helping out at a family-run restaurant, The Indian Streatery. The royals rolled up their sleeves in the kitchen and helped the Sharma family make roti, a traditional flatbread that's often served with cooked vegetables and curries.

Prince William also tried his hand at customer service, answering calls to the restaurant as he attempted to give a caller directions.

"Hope we told this customer to come to the right place," staff captioned a photo on their official Twitter feed, which showed the pair laughing with the staff.

Later, Prince William and Kate celebrated the city's creative trades — like the artisans making jewelry and innovative filmmaking and gaming industries — at an event in The Rectory, a restaurant and pub overlooking the city's historic Jewellery Quarter.

The couple received a warm welcome from the crowd in Birmingham

The Prince and Princess of Wales made their first public appearance in Birmingham after spending the Easter holidays with their children.

William , 40, and Kate, 41, celebrated the "city's diverse culture and heritage" and as part of their joint outing, they hosted local business owners at an event in The Rectory in the historic Jewellery Quarter.

The Prince looked smart in a blazer, open-collared shirt and trousers, while the Princess wore a pleated burgundy dress from Karen Millen .

The couple's first stop was to Indian Streatery, a family-run independent Indian restaurant based in the city centre, where they helped out in the kitchen and tried their hand at making a handmade roti, a simple flatbread often served with cooked vegetables and curries.

William had everyone in hysterics as he took a booking from a customer over the phone - see the moment here...

The Indian Streatery is run by the Sharma family, led by Head Chef and mum Meena, who came up with the original vision to bring real Indian street food to the streets of Birmingham.

HELLO! spoke with the restaurant's general manager Dhiraj Sharma, who told us exclusive detail s about the phone call William picked up.

The couple were in good spirits as they returned to royal duty

The restaurant, which is home to an all-female chef team, started life as a street food stall in Digbeth and was a firm favourite at the city's Digbeth Dining Club.

During the visit, which comes as part of a wider tour of the country ahead of the King's coronation, Will and Kate said they "love curries" and "secretly try lots of curry houses around the country".

Kate said food is “so nostalgic” and said she "loves spice". Meanwhile, William said he preferred milder food, adding: "I'm a masala man."

When asked whether their children enjoy Indian food, Kate replied: "Absolutely, they love it."

Speaking after the royals departed, Mrs Sharma, 63, said: "It was very surreal and not something you ever think about.

"You never think royalty will come to your humble abode but it's been an absolute pleasure to have them here."

Confirming Kate as the winner of the roti cooking competition, Mrs Sharma, who first came to the UK in 1966 from India, said: "I think clearly there was only one winner, and I think the person who knew they weren't the winner admitted that as well."

The couple will celebrate the King's coronation in just over two weeks

The couple's second engagement of the day was at The Rectory, an established pub and restaurant with a rich history spanning back decades.

The Rectory sits on the edge of The Jewellery Quarter, a hub for artistic businesses in the city which  produces up to 40 per cent of all jewellery made in the UK.

The Prince and Princess met representatives including designers, artists, and playwrights and heard more about how the sector is growing and their experiences of opening and running their businesses in the city.

According to the Court Circular, Kate met with Professor Marc Brackett (Founder and Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence) and also held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor Castle on Wednesday ahead of her public outing with her husband in Birmingham on Thursday.

Prince and Princess of Wales visit Birmingham, calling for 'concrete action' on mental health

Watch the Prince and Princess of Wales' speeches to mark World Mental Health Day

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been in Birmingham to speak to young people as they mark World Mental Health Day.

The couple, alongside their Royal Foundation and in partnership with youth charity The Mix and BBC Radio 1, hosted a forum for young people at the Custard Factory in Digbeth .

The theme of the discussion, 'Exploring our Emotional Worlds', is said to "focus on the importance of understanding our emotions and building positive relationships as the bedrock of our mental wellbeing."

A survey commissioned by The Royal Foundation found almost all those questioned thought their peers were having issues with their mental health.

William and Katherine are attending a series of events across the country this week to highlight the topic of mental health, starting in Birmingham where they hosted a discussion forum with young people about the issue.

The survey found that nearly 40% of 16 to 24-year-olds questioned felt they were not managing their emotions very well, and 95% of the group said they thought their peers were experiencing some sort of problem with their mental health.

59% of the young people surveyed thought it was very important for their age group to have greater awareness and understanding of social and emotional skills, and 39% felt they did not manage their emotions very well.

The online poll was conducted between 18-26 September, and found almost two-thirds (65%) of the 1,817 young people quizzed said their mental health was very important to them.

At today's (Tuesday 10 October) event, the Prince and Princess of Wales campaigned to support the nation's mental health, calling for "concrete action" to help the country's next generation.

Katherine gave a speech to young people as they gathered in Birmingham, telling them the ultimate goal was to "shape fairer, safer, kinder, more equal societies."

The princess highlighted the pressures of a world where "social media and concerns about the threat of conflicts, pandemics, climate change or the cost of living" can have an impact on our emotional wellbeing.

She continued: "William and I believe we need to do all we can as a society to help young people develop the emotional and social life skills they need for good mental health, and to thrive in the world around them.

"Both learning about the world and learning about how to be happy and thrive within it, should go hand-in-hand."

William joined a public discussion forum after Katherine’s speech and told their young audience: "Really, where we are is we feel that we’ve made some progress, in that we’re all in this room talking about mental health and were chipping away at that stigma, but there’s a lot more to do.

"And I think concrete action and some sort of tangibility to come forward is the idea where we’d like to see this space go next."

Outrage after Texas retiree hit with $10,000 in cosmetics charges after visit to mall kiosk

royal visit today birmingham

A 79-year-old Houston-area woman's trip to the mall for shoes resulted in a facial procedure and cosmetics unknowingly costing her nearly $10,000, subsequently draining her bank account, according to her son.

Trey Fleming told USA TODAY his mother went to Katy Mills Mall in Katy, Texas alone on April 1 to try on Hey Dude shoes, but when she left, her hands contained a bag of cosmetics and two receipts totaling around $9,600. His mom, who suffers from "age-related occasional confusion," had her savings and checking accounts emptied, he said.

"She's a retired social worker," Fleming said. "She worked for Child Protective Services for over 25 years or so, and she retired from CPS probably 10 or 12 years ago... She's never had a whole lot of money, but she's always been extremely responsible."

When Fleming's mother got older, he took financial power of attorney over her, he said.

"She would be upset about spending $15 at Walmart on makeup," Fleming said about his mother. "... she would never spend this kind of money."

USA TODAY contacted the Simon Property Group Team, which owns Katy Mills Mall, on Monday morning but did not receive an immediate response.

How did Trey Fleming's mom's trip to Katy Mills Mall go awry?

Fleming's mother's mall trip went awry after she stopped at a kiosk to ask for directions to the Hey Dude store, he said. Once his mother began speaking to the employee at the kiosk, their conversation shifted from directions to cosmetic products, he added.

"She stopped by one of the kiosks to ask for directions (and) they started talking to her about their products," Fleming said. "... They ended up taking her into their salon for a free facial."

The salon Fleming's mom entered was Royal Bee, a cosmetics company located in Katy Mills Mall. Fleming said he became weary of the situation once his sister told him their mother was having lunch with two guys at the Cheesecake Factory in Katy Mills Mall.

Fleming immediately began looking up his mother's accounts to see how much she spent at the Cheesecake Factory, and what he saw was a "whole bunch of big charges."

"I'm looking and I see her bank accounts are empty," Fleming said.

Trey Fleming's mom 'was just floored' after learning her bank accounts were empty

Fleming said once he and his sister got their mom on the phone, she explained how the salespeople at Royal Bee took her to the back for a free facial and showed her the different products and packages they were selling. The salespeople told his mother how their products would be great for her daughter and other family members, he added.

When Fleming initially checked his mom's account, he saw charges totaling $9,600 from Royal Bee. He learned from his mother's bank, which froze her accounts due to suspicious activities, that $91,000 in charges were run against her debit card during her mall trip, he said.

"She had no idea she was spending that type of money," Fleming said about his mother. "When I told her that her bank accounts were empty, she was just floored and her jaw dropped."

USA TODAY contacted Royal Bee on Monday morning but did not receive an immediate response.

Royal Bee refused to give Trey Fleming's mom a refund

Fleming said he and his mother disputed all the attempted charges with her bank and then he returned to the mall to confront the salespeople at Royal Bee.

When Fleming walked into the salon, the manager greeted him and asked if he came in for a facial, he recalled. Once the manager learned who Fleming was, he called his mother "wonderful" and "great," he added.

Fleming said he saw a book of paperwork containing his mother's contract with the salon, so he grabbed it and walked out.

"I was livid, as you can imagine," Fleming said. "You find out your mom was taken advantage of. We knew she would never buy this type of thing... that's three times her monthly income."

Bank fraud prevention: Whose job should it be?

Fleming returned to Royal Bee about an hour later, but this time with his sister and their mother. They went into the salon with the bags of stuff their mother had bought, and requested a refund, he said.

The salespeople at Royal Bee told the Flemings, "Absolutely no refunds (and) no returns," according to Trey Fleming. The shop only said products can be exchanged within 14 days for other products, he recalled.

"My mom is sweet as can be," Fleming said. "She had no idea that people are out there that will take advantage of her."

Nextdoor helped Trey Fleming's mother receive a refund

Fleming said his wife's Nextdoor post about the situation led to outrage against the Katy Mills Mall.

"They were livid," Fleming said about the users on the social network app. "There were several people that had the same thing happen to them."

The pressure from the Nextdoor users led to mall management going to the salon to inquire about the "exorbitant charges," according to Fleming. Once the mall got involved, Fleming began getting calls from the salon saying they got approval for a full refund, he said.

Fleming's mother received a full refund by April 11, he said. She did have to pay $250 for the facial and $50 for the lunch, he added.

"Just to get out of this, it was like 'OK fine,'" Fleming said about paying the $300 after the refund.

Fleming said he and his mother also filed a consumer complaint with the Texas Attorney General's Office about the mall mishap.

"It's unfortunate, and it's not just the makeup industry," Fleming said. "Anything they can do to target seniors, it's so much easier to scare them into buying something."

Kate and Prince William in Birmingham: LIVE coverage of today's Royal visit

A trip to the Prince's favourite football stadium - Villa Park - and a whistle factory formed part of the agenda

  • Updated 16:43, 22 NOV 2017

royal visit today birmingham

Kate Middleton and Prince William have brought a ray of sunshine to Birmingham on a blustery day.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - or Kate and Wills if you prefer - have been in the city today, visiting Jaguar Land Rover and Villa Park.

It has been the first opportunity Brummies have had to catch a glimpse of the baby bump.

The last time Kate was in Birmingham was in February 2015 when she was seven months pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

It will also be an exciting time for Villa fan Prince William, who got a chance to visit Villa Park and will get the chance to play a bit of football on the pitch.

We have staff following the pair around the city today, so live updates on the Royal visit follow.

Kate and Wills leave Acme Whistles

The pair have left the factory, with all their gifts in their pockets.

Of course they landed themselves some whistles

Kate and Wills were also handed six whistles for Prince George and Princess Charlotte by staff at Acme Whistles after unveiling a plaque.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had earlier been presented with a gold whistle necklace by Kamla Maman, who has worked at the company for 40 years.

See what we did there?

Our reporter Andy Richardson captured William and Kate as they were shown around the Barr Street museum.

Feel free to take a look through...

Meeting the Villa big-wigs

William and Kate have been meeting with big wigs and coaches at Aston Villa, as the video above shows.

The Duke of Cambridge is famously an Aston Villa fan, and was born a matter of days after the club won the European Cup.

The club marked their visit with special Aston Villa mugs with #partofthepride and their names printed on the side.

It is thought William will now get a chance of a kickaround on the Villa Park turf.

Prince William, who is the president of the Football Association, has previously said he decided to support Aston Villa as it is a club with a great history and because he wanted to be different to all his friends.

And they're off!

The Royal pair have now left Jaguar Land Rover and are headed for the school.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be off shortly to meet pupils from Topcliffe Primary School, Castle Vale .

She will be meeting the winners of the Jaguar Land Rover challenge.

They have made a small electric battery operated car.

The challenge is an initiative to introduce children to solar energy, battery-powered vehicles, engineering and design.

It’s been a rocky ride for Prince William

The JLR tour

Hundreds of JLR employees are lining the shop floor.

Some have shaken hands with the royal couple and exchanged a few pleasant words.

The couple are taking their time and are all smiles.

The last car that they looked at on the validation line was a Range Rover.

'He was down to earth'

Adam Humperson, who helped William fit a tyre, said: “He’s a natural. He was asking me about my job and how long I had done it for. He was pleasant, I couldn’t believe it. He was down to earth.”

Where can you get her coat from?

There’s a lot of love for Kate’s black coat - and we have tracked it down for you.

The coat she is wearing was made by designer company Goat and covers her baby bump in a very stylish way, combined with her with knee high suede black boots.

The Duchess is wearing her hair loose in big curls around her shoulders and looks radiant, reports Jasbir Authi.

The Washington Crepe Coat costs a staggering $1,038.

But we have tracked it down on eBay for £460.

Assembly line prepares for royal arrival

While the Duke and Duchess receive a briefing by the JLR CEO, assembly line workers are preparing for their arrival.

We’re told the Duke will fit a spare wheel into the boot of the Jaguar F-Pace model.

Cheers as William and Kate arrived

William and Kate has just been welcomed into JLR in Solihull - our reporter Jasbir Authi captured the cheers from the crowd as the royal couple left their car.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at JLR

This from our reporter Jasbir Authi who is at the Jaguar Land Rover plant:

She’s wearing a coat made by designer Goat over her baby bump, knee high suede black boots. She’s wearing her hair loose in big curls around her shoulders and looks radiant.

Kate is a bit windswept but is looking resplendent wearing all black.

She turned up to JLR wearing thick, black, tights and a knee-length coat with white trim.

There was no noticeable bump when she emerged from their Range Rover car - but then we couldn’t get all that near.

But then, as she is greeted, she appears to hold what we assume is a bump.

What was the Prince wearing? A suit. Nobody really cares what he wears...

They’ve turned up!

Here’s the footage of the Royal pair turning up at Land Rover in Solihull.

The JLR visit

When the couple arrive at JLR, they will be greeted by a civic line-up.

The Duke of Cambridge will be escorted by the CEO of JLR Ralf Speth.

The Duchess will be escorted by the JLR operations director Nigel Blenkinsop.

They will then be taken into a meeting where they will receive a briefing and learn more about the history of the flagship site. The couple will then visit the assembly area where they will see the final parts fitted on cars and learn more about processes, fitting and diagnostics tests.

The Duke will be invited to fit the final parts of a car. The couple will then meet staff and apprentices.

There will also be the opportunity for the couple to learn about the new concept electric Jaguar plug in.

Helicoptering in

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to arrive shortly by helicopter.

They will be meet by Her Majesty’s lord-lieutenant of the West Midlands John Crabtree.

After visiting the assembly line the couple will drive a Discovery on ‘Rock Crawl’.

A full look at the itinerary

We’ve knocked together this story to take you through what Kate and Wills will be doing today.

Essentially, he’ll do lots of smiling and shaking hands while eagerly awaiting his kickabout....

Who is the hardest-working Royal?

So, Kate and Wills are rolling into town, but how to they rank among the hardest-working Royals?

Well, not all that well. The Princess Royal does the most visiting - twice as much as most of the Royal Family.

At the bottom of the table was the Duchess of Cambridge with 39 days, and the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry both with 46.

To be fair, they have kids to look after...

So, where are they going?

The Royal pair are expected soon. This is how the itinerary is shaping up...

1) The Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull where they will have a tour of the site, hear about the manufacturing process and meet staff and apprentices
