JOE BONAMASSA Announces February/March 2022 U.S. Tour

Two time- Grammy nominee and blues-rock star Joe Bonamassa has announced a run of shows for early 2022. The 24-date tour across the U.S. is in support of his upcoming album "Time Clocks" , which is set to be released on October 29. The dates, which begin February 15, in Orlando, Florida, also feature the return of his sold-out Keeping The Blues Alive At Sea cruise from February 21 to February 25 and end in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 2022.

Bonamassa 's fan pre-sale starts today and the public on-sale will start on Friday, October 1 at 10 a.m. local venue time. Tickets to Bonamassa 's spring 2022 U.S. tour and tickets to his current 2021 fall tour are available at this location .

"Time Clocks" was recorded in New York City and took Joe back to his early roots and rediscovers him at a newfound peak with an unparalleled blues rock prowess. Known as the man in the suit, loved by many as the ultimate guitar hero, and cited by critics as "the world's biggest blues guitarist" ( Guitar World ),somehow the music mastermind has found yet another layer of immense new artistry to share with his fans. Recently Bonamassa dropped hints of the new album with his reeling anthem "Notches" and the blues-heavy single "The Heart That Never Waits" , another instant classic that takes a tale of heartbreak and turns it around into an undeniable showstopper meant for the stadiums.

The new album is a collection that sheds new light on Joe 's life as a journeyman, constantly creating and always on the run. As "Notches" and "The Heart That Never Waits" would suggest, this album shows that even though Joe chose the road less travelled, it's led him to success in the end. And he's not backing down any time soon. A bit older in years but wiser in knowledge earned, his new sound has a raw and vital flavor, combined with a resolute skill that can only be gained through years of perseverance and unyielding dedication. "Time Clocks" follows Joe on his never-ceasing evolution as he continues to forge ahead, bending genres, breaking down walls and defying the odds of the music industry.

For the new studio album, Bonamassa hit the studio with longtime collaborators Kevin Shirley as producer and manager/business partner Roy Weisman as executive producer. Recorded in New York City at Germano Studios / The Hit Factory , the band includes Steve Mackey (bass), Lachy Doley (piano), Bunna Lawrie (didgeridoo), Bobby Summerfield (percussion),and "Late Night With David Letterman" 's Anton Fig (drums and percussion),along with Mahalia Barnes , Juanita Tippins and Prinnie Stevens on backing vocals.

The album was mixed by Bob Clearmountain ( BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN , THE ROLLING STONES , TOTO , BON JOVI ),and the fantastic artwork on this album was created by famous graphic artist Hugh Syme ( RUSH , AEROSMITH , WHITESNAKE ).

Bonamassa’s “Time Clocks” tour delivers energizing blues rock (Omaha Review)

Joe Bonamassa brought his “Time Clocks” tour to the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday, August 5th. It was just the third date on tour after playing the first two shows in Nashville and Kettering, Ohio.

The Opening

This is the fifth Bonamassa show I’ve attended over the past decade and one thing you can always count on is Joe’s time clock being set to 8 PM. The show always starts promptly at 8. The lights went out just a few minutes before 8 and then Bonamassa and his eight-piece band took the stage.

joe bonamassa tour 2022

The show kicked off with “Dust Bowl” which rolled into “Evil Mama” and Gary Moore’s “Midnight Blues,” which was a definite fan favorite with the crowd joining in during the chorus. The performance followed with “I Didn’t Think She Would Do It” and “Just ‘Cos You Can Don’t Mean You Should” off Redemption . The latter featured a fiery guitar solo that got the crowd into a frenzy.

“Time Clocks”

Joe then introduced his band before kicking off the “Time Clocks” portion of the show. There was a new rhythm section featuring Lemar Carter on drums and Calvin Turner on bass. Backing vocalists included Jade McRae, Mahalia Barnes, and Danielle DeAndrea. Reese Wynans (keys) got a huge ovation from the crowd.

You’ll also notice Josh Smith as the second guitarist in the band. Smith is Bonamassa’s partner in crime and co-producer on several projects (Eric Gales, Joanna Connor, Larry McCray, Joanne Shaw Taylor, etc). During the performance, Bonamassa referred to Smith as the best guitarist on the stage.

joe bonamassa tour 2022

This is the first time I’ve been to a Bonamassa show where he played nearly an album in its entirety. Usually, he’ll play a handful of songs from a new album, but it was cool to see the attention on Time Clocks , which was voted Blues Rock Review’s #1 album of 2021 .

joe bonamassa tour 2022

One quick thing that stands out from the performance is the use of imagery. Each song had custom tailored graphics on the huge projection screen, which was a nice touch. And as always, the sound was clear.

Bonamassa started with “Notches.” Before beginning “Questions and Answers,” Bonamassa spoke about an ex girlfriend he wrote the song about and questioned why he asked her out in the first place. “Loyal Kind” with its powering riff was an electrifying performance.

The Conclusion

“Time Clocks” was the final track Bonamassa played on the album before finishing with two fan favorites, “The Ballad of John Henry” and a captivating version of “Mountain Time” which at one point even included Smith joining in during part of the guitar solo.

“Mountain Time” is just one of those songs you have to hear live. Joe shared the story of how the song came about when he was 22 years old and it was his co-writer, Grammy winner Will Jennings’ swan song before heading into retirement. Jennings also wrote lyrics to Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”

All in all, Bonamassa and company are firing on all cylinders. The “Time Clocks” tour delivers an energetic and tight performance from start to finish. Bonamassa also adds a bit of humor between songs for good measure.

Hart/bonamassa release “nutbush city limits” video, 2 thoughts on “ bonamassa’s “time clocks” tour delivers energizing blues rock (omaha review) ”.

Great review. Read it before and after attending show in Boston on August 13. My 18th Joe Show. I’m a 75 yr old retired guy. Have seen a lot of great guitar players over the years. Incomplete list includes Buddy Guy, Alvin Lee, SRV, Danny Gatton, BB, Muddy ) Enjoy Joe as much as any. In spite of having seen as many shows as I have, I still find new things to like every time I see him. This time it was 3 new musicians (bass, drums, 2nd guitar) and 1 new vocalist. His solos are always fun, but I really like it when they play as a band. There were several minutes on multiple songs where Joe traded leads with Josh Smith and the bass, drums, and keyboard played their hearts out. His last song was “John Henry” before coming back for “Woke Up Dreaming” and “Mountain Time”. Always appreciated “Just Got Paid” as closing number with unbelievable cover of Jimmy Page ((Dazed and Confused). Now I’m delighted with “Mountain Time”. Thanks again for helping me savor the show.

Seeing Joe for the fourth time March in Montgomery Alabama. As always I am excited! He never fails to “show”! I’m taking my younger brother. He has no clue. New to a Bonamassa performance! He is a big Clapton fan. Thinks there’s no one above! Haha… I can’t wait!

Joe Bonamassa tour coming to Evansville

“A cinematic celebration of Joe’s music, a testament to his unparalleled standing in the blues-rock realm”: Joe Bonamassa plays with 40-piece orchestra on new live album

Commemorating his debut performance at the landmark venue, the besuited bluesman’s licks are accompanied by an orchestra, with Twenty-Four Hour Blues the first track to be released from his forthcoming live album

Joe Bonamassa performs live

Joe Bonamassa will release his Hollywood Bowl show, which saw him playing classics and covers with an orchestra, as a live album in May.

The guitarist played his first show in front of five people – all friends of the would-be blues icon. Since then, his career has been storied with success, and for the 46-year-old his debut performance at Hollywood Bowl symbolizes his trajectory.

Bonamassa was accompanied by a 40-piece orchestra for the show, and the night’s illustrious classical blues antics have been immortalized on record and film. You can check out the orchestral version of Twenty-Four Hour Blues , which is his take on a Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland classic, below.

For the track, Bonamassa opts for what looks to be his cherry red Gibson ES-335 TDC 1964. It was no doubt a difficult decision for a man who boasts a larger-than-life guitar collection, stories of which he frequently shares with Guitar World , like the origins of his bronchitis Strat.

Putting his imagination solely into his playing, the live album will be called Live At The Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra and releases on May 17 via J&R Adventures. It lets fans experience the guitarist like never before, with the glitzy, jewel-in-the-crown show a far cry from Bonamassa's humble beginnings.

“Very few gigs represent my journey in music more than the Hollywood Bowl,” he reflects. “I moved to Los Angeles in 2003 in search of opportunity and cheaper rent than New York City. My first gig at The Mint was attended by five of my friends and that's all.

“We have played The Greek Theatre many times since, but the Bowl has always been a dream,” he continues. “The orchestra and the sheer scale of the event and venue is something I will never forget. I am so grateful that we filmed this special event in my life.”

According to Setlist.fm , the performance saw Bonamassa dish out hits like Evil Mama and Dust Bowl sans orchestra before the 40-piece joined him for an 11-song set.

That included an overture of When One Door Opens . Self-penned songs like Curtain Call and The Last Matador of Bayonne were paired with some of his most revered covers, including his highly emotive rendition of Tim Curry's Sloe Gin .

The release will be available in a variety of formats, including CD/BR, two LP Vinyl (180-gram), and digital.

Kevin Shirley, who mixed Orianthi’s new single, First Time Blues , on which Bonamassa features, was the project’s producer. Of the show, he says: “With a master practitioner like Joe Bonamassa on guitar, studio ingredients become magic live.

“Embracing the challenge of surpassing previous concerts, we aimed high for the Hollywood Bowl, incorporating orchestral maestros like David Campbell and Trevor Rabin. The result is a cinematic celebration of Joe’s music, a testament to his unparalleled standing in the blues-rock realm.”

That Orianthi track won’t be Bonamassa’s only guest spot in 2024. In what’s gearing up to be another busy whizz around the sun for the accomplished string slinger, he recently visited Andy Timmons in the studio , as the pair traded licks on a track for his forthcoming solo album.

He’s also expected to continue working with Gibson, with his signature Epiphone 1963 SG custom getting high praise in our review of the guitar.

The guitarist is currently on a US tour, which wraps up March 22 at the Keeping Blues Alive at Sea Festival, which journeys from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico. After that, he'll be melting faces across Europe, starting in London on April 4, and concluding in Vienna, on April 19.

This summer he’ll be back performing on US soil, with a 23-date tour starting in Selbyville on July 17 and ending in Hampton Beach on August 31 as part of a doubleheader at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
