“It’s so hard to watch the fight to get the cowboy back on the radio, because that’s who I am and the lifestyle I live. And I can't sacrifice my integrity for wh oI am. I'm just kind of just being myself.”

Those are the words of country superstar Cody Johnson, the former rodeo rider turned musician. In his two-disc album Human: The Double Album, Cody Johnson — also known as CoJo — opted for songs that Nashville had written off as “too country for country.”

Taking creative risks is nothing for Johnson. One might assume that earning accolades like CMA and ACM Awards nominations, a Platinum single (“On My Way To You”), more than 2 billion streams worldwide, and two RIAA-Gold-Certified tracks is best accomplished by playing by the rules. However, risk-taking is in Johnson’s DNA, and it’s something he’s not going to give up — particularly when it comes to his music.

Born in East Texas in 1987, Johnson started playing music at age 12. He loved it from the start, but his Texas upbringing also introduced him to another, more adrenaline-fueled love: riding bulls at the rodeo. Even as he formed the Cody Johnson Band in 2006 with his father and drummer Nathan Reedy, rodeo pulled at Johnson’s heart.

Later in his career, Johnson would immortalize this journey in song. “All that rodeo, that intense high of riding bulls and thinking that was what I was going to do, and that intense low of that instant realization at a young age that I wasn't good enough and I didn't finish that," says Johnson, "That almost depressed area of my life... all that was allowed to happen to me for one song."

Perhaps music had its own way of rectifying this struggle. On May 15, 2019, Johnson made history by becoming the first unsigned musician ever to sell out the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. If ever there were a case of fate assuring someone that they’re on the right course, this would be it.

Earlier that year, Johnson had released his seventh studio album Ain’t Nothin’ To It with Warner Bros. Records Nashville. This album gave him his first Top 40 hit on Country Airplay. There was plenty of touring to be done on such a monumental record, which is perhaps what led to the nearly three-year gap between this and his subsequent record.

When Human: The Double Album arrived in October 2021, it was the result of the years Johnson spent writing and retracing his songwriting roots. The result was a selection of authentic country songs that Johnson felt particularly attached to. When it came time to choose which ones were going on the record, Johnson says he tagged all of them as necessary to the album. That meant a true double album, each with an A and a B side.

“What I did was put the songs together in sequential order as if it was a set list, and I was going to play you this album live. If there’s a theme to this project, it’s that the album is a set list.”

We could not have had a bether time. Botherwise Cody Johnson & Randy Rogers put on a great show that did not disappoint. I would see either act again. Dantes was the perfect venue. I suspect next time these guys come back to Portland, they may need a bigger place. Thanks for an awesome night.

Parker McCollum was great as always. Crazy that Dodds passed out on stage because of the heat. Hope he’s much better today. Cody Johnson closed the night in great fashion.

All the band's were great. I took my 8yr old and my 2 14 yr olds with me and we all had a great time. Very impressed with all the bands.

Cody Johnson Announces The Leather Tour For 2024 With Justin Moore

In support of his upcoming album, “ Leather, ” set to drop on November 3rd, Cody Johnson announces he’s officially hittin the road next year for a total of 13 stops.

The Leather Tour , featuring special guests Justin Moore and Dillon Carmichael, kicks off in Sacramento, California on January 19th and runs all the way until July 9th, with a small break in the months of April and May.

Every show features Moore and Carmichael as the openers, with an exception only to the Arkansas show where Chris Janson will replace Moore at the Simmons Bank Arena.

CoJo has released three songs from the upcoming record so far, “The Painter,” Work Boots” and “Watching My Old Flame.” One thing we also know is the record is expected to feature a duet with Carrie Underwood that should (hopefully) blow us away.

Leather , as well as Chris Stapleton’s “ Higher, ” (both slated for a November release) seem to be the most highly-anticipated albums left of 2023 and if there’s any indication from their previous catalogs, they shouldn’t disappoint.

Platinum recording artist and CMA Male Vocalist of the Year nominee Cody Johnson will launch the first leg of his 2024 tour on January 19, 2024, The Leather Tour is aptly named after his soon-to-be released album Leather due out November 3, 2023.

“The Leather Tour” is coming to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN on Friday, February 2nd , 2024 . Special guests include Justin Moore and Dillon Carmichael. Tickets on sale Friday Oct. 6th at Ticketmaster.com .

The Tennessean claimed, “Cody Johnson showcases rising mastery of his country craft. Bag Policy and New Screening Measures

FedExForum has implemented a CLEAR BAG POLICY that also limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into any event.

Only bags meeting the following standards will be allowed inside FedExForum:

• Clear bags made of plastic, vinyl or PVC no larger than 6x8x2 inches
• Bags MAY NOT have an all-over print or decoration that prohibits FULL view of its contents
• The bag may contain a strap, but metal or chain straps are prohibited
• One quart or smaller clear plastic storage/freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
• Wallets (sized to carried in the front or back pocket) no larger than 5x3.5 inches

Clear bags and wallets compliant with the above will also be screened through X-Ray machines.

Limit one (1) CLEAR bag per person.

The PGA TOUR heads to the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Championship, the next Additional Event on the 2024 TOUR schedule.

The PGA TOUR uses a standardized system for determining event fields based on the current season’s Priority Ranking while also including additional exemption and qualifying categories.

Field sizes can vary by event, as can the number of event-specific exemptions. Fully exempt PGA TOUR members are guaranteed entry into all full-field events, with various conditional categories subject to periodic reshuffles based upon FedExCup Points accrued throughout the season. Categories with "reshuffle" notation indicate that a reshuffle period has occurred.

Note: An additional year of eligibility was granted to some categories because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jamey Johnson Announces What A View Tour in 2024

Song of the Year double-winner Jamey Johnson is hitting the road on an extensive US tour this summer! The country music star will travel across quite a few different states on his What A View Tour, and he’s bringing some friends along for the ride.

Charles Wesley Godwin, Ben Haggard, Drake White, Whitey Morgan & The 78s, and Southall will support Johnson on select dates. If you love good ol’ country storytelling and captivating collaborative performances, this is not a tour to miss!

The Jamey Johnson 2024 Tour begins on June 20 in St. Augustine, Florida at St. Augustine Amphitheatre with support from Ben Haggard. The tour will end on October 5 in Gautier, Mississippi at The Sound Amphitheater.

2024 Masters one and done picks, DFS lineups, sleepers, fantasy golf projections, longshots by PGA expert

The 2024 Masters gets underway on Thursday from Augusta National Golf Club at 10:30 a.m. ET, a two-and-a-half hour delay due to storms. No golfer around the world is playing better right now than World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler. The 2022 winner of this event, Scheffler won the elevated Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and again the following week at the Players Championship. He then nearly won for the third straight tournament, missing a putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff at the Houston Open. The tee-to-green specialist gained 17 strokes on the field when he won here in 2022 and will try to continue his torrid run. Given his run of dominant play, should Scheffler be the top choice when constructing your 2024 Masters DFS picks, 2024 Masters fantasy golf rankings, and 2024 Masters one and done strategy? McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his  golf picks . He is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since the restart.  

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022. 

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express, he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

Top 2024 Masters One and Done picks

One of McClure's top One and Done picks for the Masters is Brooks Koepka. Though his recent form hasn't been overly impressive, with only one top-10 finish in 2024, Koepka is a 'big game hunter' who thrives in major tournaments. In his last five Masters Tournaments, the American has two second place finishes and a seventh.

The winner of last year's PGA Championship, Koepka has four wins and 12 top-10 finishes in his last 21 majors. With a green jacket because his most treasured goal going forward, Koepka is a viable play again at Augusta. Top 2024 Masters DFS picks, lineup advice

One golfer McClure is targeting in his 2024 Masters DFS lineups is Justin Thomas. The 15-time PGA Tour winner has long been considered one of the top ball-strikers and irons players in the world and has a proven track record of success in big events. Thomas has two career major championships and six top-25 finishes in eight career starts at Augusta National.

Thomas' ability to card birdies and eagles makes him standout among the field when building Masters DFS lineups. He enters Masters week ranked sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained on approach (0.795) and 12th in strokes gained tee-to-green (1.124). Top 2024 Masters Fantasy Golf picks, projections

One of McClure's top fantasy golf picks is Scottie Scheffler. He's won eight times in the last 26 months and been No. 1 in the world for the last 47 weeks in a row (81 total). You'll pay a premium for Scheffler and he'll be highly rostered in Masters DFS tournaments as well as the first player off the board in any draft format, but that's a price you should be willing to play considering how dominant he's been of late.

Scheffler has two wins and a runner-up finish over his last three starts, which happens to coincide with a putter change that has helped make him nearly a tour-average putter. Considering that he's already the world's best ball-striker (2.798 strokes gained: tee-to-green per round), his game could be elevated. Raven Johnson and South Carolina Cap ‘Revenge Tour’ in Perfect Fashion With Women’s Title

When the matchup was set Friday, basketball fans (and television execs) everywhere were drooling over seeing the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. This game was set up to be an instant classic, no matter what the outcome was. 

But there was no one more excited for this than Raven Johnson. 

“All I have to say is: The revenge tour is over,” the sophomore point guard declared after the Gamecocks defeated the Hawkeyes 87–75 in the NCAA women’s national title game. 

After South Carolina’s Final Four loss to Iowa last year, Johnson couldn’t stop watching and rewatching the game. It didn’t matter that Johnson, then a redshirt freshman, had a respectable 13 points and was shooting 50% from three. Caitlin Clark had waved her off at the top of the circle, signifying that Johnson wasn’t a threat from the outside. A clip of the play went viral online and Johnson was embarrassed. And then she became obsessed. She watched the game over and over and over. She even started to wonder if she should keep playing basketball. 

But she didn’t quit. Instead, Johnson declared the 2023–24 season her revenge tour, an apology, she said, to herself, her teammates and most of all, her coach. She and the Gamecocks were going to prove they are not to be waved off. Not this season, even with a whole new starting lineup. And not on Sunday in Cleveland, even after being down by as much as 11 points in the first half. 

No, South Carolina got its revenge on the biggest stage possible, taking down Clark and waving away the fairy-tale finish that could have been by sending Clark out with a national title before becoming the presumed No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft next week. 

The Gamecocks were the ones to write a storybook ending: an undefeated season fueled by redemption and completed with a championship. After turning over the entire starting lineup from last year’s Final Four squad—graduating the legendary “Freshies” crew led by Aliyah Boston—many expected this to be a transition season for Dawn Staley. Instead, she put together one of the best women’s basketball teams we may have ever seen and just the 10th in the history of the game to finish undefeated.

The weight of how last season ended hit Staley as the clock hit zeros and the coach was able to let out the emotions she carried all season long —right up until she won her third national title for the Gamecocks.

“I mean, it’s heavy, it’s heavy,” Staley said after the win. “You carry the burden of every single one of your players, all the coaches and staff members that put so much into our team. And it’s a heavy load to be undefeated, to finish the job.” 

Staley’s players said Sunday’s win was the first time they had ever seen their coach cry or get that emotional. In fact, all season long, players talked about how much looser she was compared to years past. When the Gamecocks had a one-point lead heading into halftime against the NC State Wolfpack in the Final Four, there was no yelling or screaming in the locker room. It was clear to Staley what adjustments needed to be made: find the open person and have a plan before you get the ball. 

But keeping calm and simple has not always been the way Staley has approached these moments in her coaching career. 

“No, I haven’t always been that way, good Lord. I’ve had to lay down my religion a few times at halftime,” Staley said Saturday. “But you approach each team in how they receive information. You deliver it in how they receive it because ultimately you just want them to get the message. Sometimes we as coaches mess up the message with how angry we can get, how competitive we can get in those moments.”

Starting last summer essentially from scratch, Staley had to figure out how to motivate a team of freshmen, transfers and players who never started last season. It certainly wasn’t an easy task, but she found the perfect way to get them to bond. 

“I wouldn’t say they were miserable, and misery loves company, but it was—more than the majority was out of shape,” Staley said. 

The team didn’t touch a ball in the summer. Instead, Staley gave her players grueling workouts and “Final Four Fridays,” which consisted of 5 a.m. wake-up calls and heading to Colonial Life Arena, where they carried a rope around through all the seats, going up and down the stairs while also holding kettlebells and medicine balls and making sure to never let the rope touch the ground.

Staley built a team that was made to find instant chemistry off the court—her daycare, she lovingly referred to them as. And with a team fortified by that summer of conditioning, they learned how to withstand pressure on the court. That lethal combo was in full force Sunday. 

Iowa came out fast and hard. Clark got in a rhythm early, scoring 18 points in the first quarter, 11 of those in the span of just 67 seconds. There wasn’t much stopping the Hawkeyes star in the first quarter, but South Carolina is built to withstand early pressure. The Gamecocks started the second quarter with a 7–0 run and erased what Clark had built in the first. Fittingly, Johnson closed out the first half when she got an easy steal from Clark and scored on the fast break, extending South Carolina’s lead to 49–46 heading into the locker room. South Carolina held Clark to just three points in the second quarter. And who was in charge of guarding her? Johnson, of course.

“For Raven, I think it was psychologically helpful to be able to play Iowa and Caitlin, to just release,” Staley said of the matchup. “As a player, you want to release certain things that have held you captive. And I do think the waving off in the Final Four last year held her captive.

“… Then for her to actually lock in and play Caitlin the way we needed her to play her—we knew [Clark] was going to get her points. We wanted her to get her points in an inefficient way.”

The second half went similarly for South Carolina, coming out with a 6–0 run and forcing Iowa coach Lisa Bluder to call a timeout just two minutes into the third quarter. The Gamecocks never gave up their lead, locking in defensively and in the paint. Sophomore Chloe Kitts had 10 rebounds and pitched in 11 points. Senior Kamilla Cardoso, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, ended her time as a Gamecock with a career-high 17 rebounds, playing through a knee injury she picked up Friday against the Wolfpack. 

While the Gamecocks’ signature team defense took care of Clark & Co., their other defining feature for the season—their depth—finished the job. South Carolina’s bench outscored the Hawkeyes, 37–0. Freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley, who quickly became a household name thanks to her highlight-filled debut against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the start of the season, contributed nine points and four assists. But it was her fellow freshman, Tessa Johnson, who finished as the team’s leading scorer, finishing with 19 points off the bench. 

“Tessa was due for a breakout game,” senior guard Te-Hina Paopao said of Johnson, who averaged 6.2 points per game heading into Sunday. “What better to do it than on a national stage?” 

Since the start of the NCAA tournament, Staley noticed her players were locked in even more than they had been during the regular season. They were focused and taking notes, taking things more seriously. 

“It wasn’t daycare this morning,” Staley said Saturday after her team’s film session. “I don’t know if it’s just because they just woke up, but they’re locked in.” 

And there was at least one player who has been locked since the last tournament. But with the revenge tour over, what will next season be for Raven Johnson? 

“You know, I haven’t thought about that yet,” Johnson said. “I’m gonna cherish the moment right now.”

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.

An excellent read! Thanks for much for sharing the Russian metro system with us. We're heading to Moscow in April and exploring the metro stations were on our list and after reading your post, I'm even more excited to go visit them. Thanks again 🙂
