Being an island in the South Pacific region, seafood plays a big part in the local cuisine. Locally grown produce mainly consists of root vegetables and tropical fruits. Coconut is a key ingredient across many dishes and Indo-Fijian influences are evident in cooking across the archipelago. 

Foods to try in Fiji

Think of this as a Fijian-style ceviche. The dish uses raw fish soaked in lemon or lime juice and is served with a combination of onions, chilies, peppers and tomatoes.

2. Fijian curry

Indian influences are evident in the cuisine with a variety of curries seen all over the islands. They're typically made with coconut milk, tomatoes and a combination of local fruit and vegetables such as plantain. Curries are served with roti or dahl.

This traditional Fijian dish is made from taro leaves that are cooked or stewed in coconut milk. It's often served on the side with freshly cooked fish.

Lovo is a traditional style of cooking similar to  New Zealand ’s hangi. Meats and vegetables are wrapped in banana leaves and buried in a hole to cook for several hours over coals.

If you like seafood, you may be tempted to try the local delicacy of cawaki, or sea urchin. It's popular in coastal towns and villages but you'll also find them in city markets. They can be eaten raw or cooked.

6. Palusami

This dish comprises parcels of corned beef, onion, garlic and coconut cream wrapped and steamed in taro leaves. Other South Pacific nations like Samoa have their own take on this dish.

Culture and customs

Fijians are known for their welcoming hospitality and truly live up to this reputation. Interactions are met with a smile and curiosity is the norm, making you feel like an honored guest in the most far-reaching places of the islands.

Fiji’s population is made up of a rich cultural mix of native Fijians at around 57 percent and Indo-Fijians make up 37 percent of the population. This means the archipelago is a blend of Melanesian and Indian influences. Indigenous Fijians maintain both traditional cultural practices and strong Christian values with more than half identifying to the faith.

Approximately 34 percent of the Indian-Fijian community is Hindu and 7 percent practice Islam. One of the most noticeable cultural practices is the act of drinking kava (yanggona) which is consumed as part of ceremonies as well as being a welcoming gesture to guests in communities.

Festivals and events in Fiji

Hibiscus festival.

A nine-day event held in Suva on the main island of Viti Levu each August. The Hibiscus Festival has been running for more than 50 years and is a community celebration bringing together traditional music, food stalls and the crowning of the ‘Hibiscus Queen’ (as part of the island’s beauty pageant).

Bula Festival

Much like the Hibiscus Festival, this event is held in Nadi on the western side of Viti Levu and goes on for a week. The word ‘bula’ means ‘welcome’ or ‘hello’ and is a common gesture of greeting used in most parts of Fiji. Authentic Fijian cuisine is served up as part of the event and visitors are encouraged to join the festivities.

South Indian Fire Walking Festival

This extraordinary spectacle is held between July and August. The event attracts large numbers from the local Hindu community to Suva Point. The ceremony involves Hindu priests and devotees piercing the tongue and cheeks before walking across hot coals. The event signifies the end of 10 days of abstinence to worship the goddess Maha Devi.

Lautoka Sugar Festival

Lautoka is known as the sugar capital of Fiji, situated on the west coast of Viti Levu, it’s the second biggest city (after Suva). Sugar cane holds large economic value for the country. The festival is held over a week in September and is another community celebration that brings in locals from throughout the islands to take part.

Geography and environment

Fiji is an archipelago in the South Pacific scattered with around 300 islands and 540 islets. The country is approximately a five hours’ flight from the east coast of Australia. The interior of the main island is made up of thick jungle terrain, bursting with waterfalls and large winding rivers. The rich volcanic soil creates an ideal environment to grow crops of coconuts, ginger, kava, bananas, cassava and breadfruit. More than half of Fiji’s population live in major towns along the coast, either in Suva, Lautoka and Nadi on the island of Viti Levu.

Best time to visit

Thanks to its tropical climate, Fiji is a year-round destination with warm temperatures (it rarely dips below 20°C) and plenty of sunshine throughout the year. That said, the best time to visit for optimal weather – think blue skies and little rain – is during the dry season which runs from May to October. Traveling in the shoulder months is also a good option as the weather isn't too wet and there aren't as many tourists.

The monsoon season runs from November to April, and while this is considered to be the off-season, it's a great time to explore without big crowds (excluding the festive season which sees a spike in tourists). Just bear in mind that the weather is hot and humid, and torrential (but brief) downpours are common. There’s also the possibility of cyclones.

Many resorts in Fiji have onsite gift and souvenir shops, but we recommend heading to a local market to peruse the stalls and get to know the locals. They're a great place to find handmade art and crafts, traditional food and general souvenirs.

It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are permitted to bring certain items into your home country. Australia and New Zealand generally have strict quarantine laws.

From smooth and polished serving bowls to elaborately painted decorations, coconut shells have many purposes!

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Do I need a visa to travel to Fiji?

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it's important that you check for the latest information. Is tipping customary in Fiji?

Bargaining or tipping in restaurants, shops and hotels is not traditionally part of Fijian culture but if you receive exceptional service you can consider a tip. 

What is the internet access like in Fiji?

Fiji has several phone networks and good internet service available. Phone cards can be purchased throughout major centers and most hotels provide Wi-Fi. Check with your phone provider to find out if they offer mobile roaming in Fiji.  

Can I use my mobile/cell phone while in Fiji?

Local networks such as Vodafone and Telecom offer phone services in most areas. Global roaming with other networks may not work in Fiji. Check with your network provider.

What are the toilets like in Fiji?

It's likely that you’ll encounter different types of toilets while traveling in Fiji. Western-style flushable toilets are commonly found in high-end resorts, hotels and restaurants, while squat toilets are common in rural areas and homes. Be prepared by carrying your own supply of toilet paper and soap, as these aren't always provided.

Can I drink the water in Fiji?

Are credit cards widely accepted in Fiji?

Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants in all major cities and towns.  

What is ATM access like in Fiji?

You can find ATMs in Nadi, Suva and other major towns. If you’re heading to the smaller islands or into rural parts of Fiji it’s advised to carry enough cash for small purchases.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Absolutely. All passengers traveling with Intrepid are required to purchase travel insurance before the start of their trip. Day One: Arrive in Fiji. Day Two: Day trip by local boat operator exclusive to our group to Treasure Island, Castaway Island and snorkeling reefs. Visit the iguanas and turtles at Treasure Island and Visit snorkeling locations. Lunch can be purchased at Castaway Island, or bring a packed lunch and laze on the beach.

Day Three: Zip Lining near Nadi and a short walk to Orchid Falls for a swim for those not Zip Lining. Visit the Mud Pools and choice of Traditional Fijian Massage (massage is an additional cost)

Day Four: Vehicle transfers to Yasawa Island Ferry Facilities – Yasawa Flyer. Transfer from Yasawa Flyer to our traditional village stay on Nacula Island. Welcome ceremony with the village chief where we present Kava to the village.

Day Five: Tour of the village primary school. This is a very special occasion to visit the school and hear the children sing songs. We also present the school with additional supplies that we ask everyone to bring along as gifts.

My second trip to Fiji was the best experience I ever had. GVI is an excellent organization that helps each individual in providing great opportunities. There were a lot of things I did on the trip that I never imagined I could do, like building a pigerry, chopped down a tree with a machete and built some steps. The project leader was also helpful in encouraging me to stick with the harder jobs. I spent a lot of my free time with a a Fijian family who welcomed me in their home and provided me with great meals. I highly recommend this project to anyone to wants to do something

I had an eye-opening experience when I went to Fiji. The Fijian people were welcoming as well the volunteers, interns and leaders. I had a great time and wished to stay a bit longer if not for the cost.

The Fiji experience was amazing. Our tour guide (Emi) made the trip memorable. She was lively and fun to be with. I witnessed great things like the traditional ceremony in the village. It was a trip worth remembering.

Fiji is a Melanesian country in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies about one-third of the way from New Zealand to Hawaii and consists of an archipelago of 332 islands, a handful of which make up most of the land area, and approximately 110 of which are inhabited.

Fiji straddles the 180-degree longitude line (which crosses land on a remote tip of Vanua Levu and again near the center of Taveuni). The international date line is configured to pass east of all of Fiji, placing it all in one time zone and 'ahead' of most of the rest of the world.

Fiji is an archipelago of more than 330 islands—of which 110 are permanently inhabited—and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of about 18,300 square kilometers (7,100 sq mi). The farthest island is Ono-i-Lau. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the total population of 898,760. The capital, Suva on Viti Levu, serves as Fiji's principal cruise port. About three-quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu's coasts, either in Suva or in smaller urban centers like Nadi (with tourism being the major industry)or Lautoka (sugar cane industry). Viti Levu's interior is sparsely inhabited due to its terrain.

Fiji has one of the most developed economies in the Pacific due to an abundance of forest, mineral, and fish resources. Today, the main sources of foreign exchange are its tourist industry and sugar exports. The country's currency is the Fijian dollar. Fiji's local government, in the form of city and town councils, is supervised by the Ministry of Local Government and Urban Development.

The majority of Fiji's islands were formed through volcanic activity starting around 150 million years ago. Today, some geothermal activity still occurs on the islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Fiji has been inhabited since the second millennium BC and was settled first by Austronesians and later by Melanesians, with some Polynesian influences. Europeans visited Fiji from the 17th century, and, after a brief period as an independent kingdom, the British established the Colony of Fiji in 1874. Fiji was a Crown colony until 1970 when it gained independence as the Dominion of Fiji. A republic was declared in 1987, following a series of coups d'état.

In a coup in 2006, Commodore Frank Bainimarama seized power. When the High Court ruled in 2009 that the military leadership was unlawful, President Ratu Josefa Iloilo, whom the military had retained as the nominal Head of State, formally abrogated the Constitution and reappointed Bainimarama. Later in 2009, Iloilo was replaced as President by Ratu Epeli Nailatikau. After years of delays, a democratic election was held on 17 September 2014. Bainimarama's FijiFirst party won with 59.2% of the vote, and the election was deemed credible by international observers.

Fiji is truly an isolated island paradise. It takes 10 hours to fly from either Hong Kong or Los Angeles and three hours from New Zealand, its closest large neighbor.

- Holi Festival

Each February or March, Fijians break out their colored paints and powders to celebrate the Holi Festival. Also known as the festival of colors or the festival of love, Holi is an ancient Hindu religious festival that Fiji has embraced with great enthusiasm. Holi isn’t a public holiday in Fiji, but Fijians of all religions get in on the fun.

- Poseidon Undersea Resorts

Though it’s not yet open and has been plagued by ongoing delays, the Poseidon Undersea Resort promises to be one of Fiji’s most unusual attractions. When it opens, not only will it be located on a private island in Fiji, it will be the world’s first seafloor resort. You might want to save up before you book a spot though; it’s rumored that rooms will cost $30,000 per couple per week.

- Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool

Definitely not overly commercialized, the Sabeto mud pools are not much more than a heated mud bath in the ground with a distinct smell of sulfur. That said, they’re a nice taste of island life outside the commercialized resorts.

When most people think of Fiji, they think of the largest and most visited island in the chain (named Fiji as well). In fact, Fiji is made up of 333 tropical islands, many deserted and private like Castaway Island Fiji (also known as Qalito island). - Firewalking at the Mariamma Temple

Every July or August, you can watch men walk across red hot coals at the South Indian fire-walking festival at the Mariamma Temple. Indigenous Fijian fire walking (known as vilavilairevo) was originally practiced only on the tiny island of Beqa, but today you can also see fire walking year-round at the Pacific Harbour Arts Village, in many major resorts, or at Suva’s Hibiscus Festival in August.

- Fiji's underwater caves

The limestone caves of Sawa-i-Lau are famous for being one of the locations for the movie The Blue Lagoon. The inner limestone cave of Sawa-i-Lau is only accessible by swimming under a rocky veil so getting there isn’t for the faint of heart.

- Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park

These vast sand dunes set against a deep blue sea are well worth the two-hour hike that takes you along the dunes and through a mahogany forest. If you ask, the Rangers will tell you a little bit about the ancient burial site in the park that has evidence of human habitation from almost 3,000 years ago.

- Vinaka Fiji Volunteering in the Yasawa Islands

Fiji’s Yasawa Islands are home to 27 villages living below world standards of health and poverty. The Vinaka Fiji Trust was set up to give something back to the villagers and to say “thank you (vinaka) for welcoming us into your islands.” The Trust runs three main programs: marine conservation, education, and sustainable communities.

- Naihehe Caves

The Naihehe Cave was once a fortress for a cannibal tribe and still houses a cannibal oven. Even today, the cave is secluded, and only accessed by a 4×4 drive through the limestone mountains.

- Colo-i-Suva Forest Park

The Colo-i-Suva (pronounced tholo-ee-soo -va) Forest Park is a true lush rainforest. If you’re lucky, you may spot a sulphur-breasted musk parrot, Fiji warblers or goshawks. There are natural swimming holes along the walking trails, with a rope swing in the Lower Pools to bring out your inner Tarzan.

As you’re probably already aware, the climate in Fiji is tropical. This can (and most likely will) mean it can rain at any time, however as it's so hot and you’re likely to already be in the pool or ocean anyway, it really isn’t likely to hinder your experience! Some days are clear skies, other days are grey… but this can all change in an instant. It’s all part of the island experience.

Being a tropical destination, Fiji's weather is generally pleasant and fairly mild throughout the year, however, you may notice the wet and dry seasonal variations. Like most tropical climates, the wet season occurs during summer where high temperatures and increased humidity lead to higher levels of precipitation and in Fiji, an increased risk of cyclones. The summer wet season runs from November to March with temperatures in the low 30s and only dropping to a balmy 27 degrees Celsius overnight. Situated in the Southern Hemisphere, Fiji’s dry season occurs during the cooler months from May to September when temperatures remain warm enough to enjoy swimming, sunbathing and a range of Fiji’s most popular tours and activities.

Overall, the best time to visit Fiji is from late October to early November when the cost of getting and staying here has not yet reached its peak. During this period, the weather is dry, settled and warm and the beaches and resorts are far less crowded as school is still in.

Fiji is a relatively easy destination to travel to and locals are eager to please. But there are a few things you should know regarding basic manners, safety and your own peace of mind.

- Know the meaning of ‘bula’ and ‘vinaka’

While English is an official language, and most Fijians speak English to a certain level, you will hear bula and vinaka  frequently throughout your stay. Bula is the Fijian greeting and vinaka means thank you. If you only ever learn two words of Fijian, make them bula and vinaka . Fijians are some of the friendliest people you can imagine, so come armed with a healthy dose of smiles and greetings.

- People walk around with machetes, but it’s perfectly fine

No, they’re not about to carry out a massacre, they’re probably just working. Machetes are a common sight in Fiji and they’re the preferred tool for most workers who need to cut away grass, chop away any vegetation or open a coconut. Don’t be alarmed. You’ll even see older women armed with machetes in the villages or in rural areas.

- Avoid walking about at night

While Fiji is generally considered a safe place to visit, common sense should always prevail. Outside of the resorts, it can be dangerous for women walking alone at night by themselves or even in a small group. It’s best to take a taxi at night rather than walking – including for male travelers.

- Be careful about eating reef fish

Avoid reef fish if possible as they have been associated with sickness, not just in Fiji but in many of the South Pacific Islands. Reef fish live in shallower areas and feed off the coral, which at certain times of year can have a toxic bloom on them, infecting the fish. Choose deep water fish such as wahoo, tuna, marlin, and mahi-mahi. Food poisoning can occur in the Pacific so always drink filtered or boiled water, make sure hot food is piping hot and steer clear of rock melons, which aren’t always grown in pristine conditions.

- The national speed limit is 80KMH

This limit is enforced by police and you will be fined if you are caught speeding. However, while driving around Fiji, the rest of the road rules can appear fairly…relaxed. Sometimes non-existent. Drivers will pull out suddenly in front of other cars or appear to come from nowhere, so always be prepared for the unexpected.

Also, if you do happen to have a car accident, don’t move your car off the road, even if there are other vehicles queuing to get past. Moving your car means you admit liability. Car crashes do happen in Fiji and it means all the other drivers have to stop and drive around the vehicles stuck in the middle of the road on seemingly minor crashes.

- Sunday is church day

Most Fijians are Christian and they take Sundays very seriously. Everyone goes to church dressed in their Sunday best with many of the men wearing crisp white shirts and black sulus (a traditional black skirt men wear in the islands). Many shops are closed on Sundays or have limited opening hours, so it’s best to get all your shopping and main activities completed on another day of the week. The second most common religion is Hinduism because of the Fijian-Indian population. If you’re traveling to Fiji during Diwali or Holi festivals, expect plenty of celebrations and nightly fireworks.

- Watch out for the mozzies

Mosquitos are common throughout the Fiji Islands so be sure to bring insect repellent and repeat applications through the day – especially in the evening or if you are hanging around waterways. Fiji is listed as one the countries known to have the Zika virus, which means men and women should take safety precautions as outlined by the World Health Organisation.

- Buy local

Imported food in Fiji is very expensive, but local fruit and vegetables from the produce markets are very cheap. Most produce is sold in a ‘heap’ for a between $2-$5FJD. The same products are typically more expensive and not as fresh when sold in supermarkets. There are also many locally crafted souvenirs available for purchase so you can easily take a piece of your Fiji holiday home with you.

- Bring conservative clothing

In the resorts, pretty much anything works as far as clothing or swimwear goes. However, the dress code is more conservative in towns and especially small villages. Women should cover their shoulders and avoid short skirts or shorts, while men should wear shirts rather than singlets and longer length shorts. Always remove your hat and take your sunglasses off your head when entering a village or going inside. The head is very sacred for Fijians and you must never touch anyone’s head without permission.

- Animals rule the road

Stray dogs are everywhere throughout Fiji and they’ll run across the road at any time, bark in the middle of the night and forage for food. Most of them are strays and therefore can have fleas and other diseases. Horses and cattle are frequently seen both in paddocks and wandering around on the road. You’ll come off worse if you run into a cow.

- Fijian culture is vibrant and friendly, and you can expect a warm welcome at any of the villages you may choose to visit. By respecting local customs and traditions, your experience will be even warmer.

- Start by making sure you dress conservatively. This means women should make sure their shoulders and knees (and everything in between!) are covered and aren’t wearing any midriff tops or short shorts. The same applies to men, who should avoid tank tops and shorts when in the village. Avoid wearing hats or sunglasses, as these are considered disrespectful – and if you’re entering someone’s house, remove your shoes first.

- Got a loud voice? Try to keep it down – speaking loudly or raising your voice is interpreted as a sign of anger, so try to always speak softly. Don’t point directly at anyone, as this is considered rude, and be careful to watch your language too, as Fijians rarely swear. If you’re offered a sip of kava at a ceremony, do try it. It’s rude to decline.

- Home life in Fiji bears a lot of similarities to traditional, conservative Western lifestyles from the 1950’s. Women are traditionally expected to take care of domestic duties, such as cooking, cleaning and raising children, and are often actively involved in helping out with their church as well. Men are the primary providers, working during the day to support the family and coming home to relax in the evening. In some Indo-Fijian households, women will also go off to work during the daytime but are still responsible for home duties when they return.

- Time in Fiji is viewed differently in village and city settings, and also differs between the two major cultural groups (Indo-Fijians and Indigenous Fijians). Indo-Fijians and those living in cities are traditionally very punctual and are careful to always be on time, whereas things are much more relaxed in rural settings, where “Fiji time” is the norm.

- Ultimately, Fijians will forgive foreigners for any cultural faux pas they may commit during their stay, but by showing at least a basic knowledge of the Fijian way of life, you’ll be demonstrating your respect for the incredible country and people you visit.

F or many people, the mere mention of Fiji conjures up images of sparkling white sands, impossibly blue waters, and plenty of sun and fun at luxury resorts. It has been so for over a century. 

Since the islands first began development as a major tourist destination, Fiji's infrastructure and hospitality sector has been geared towards enticing visitors from all over the globe with the promise of a friendly welcome in a tropical paradise. Promoting the islands this way has proven hugely successful; in 2023, the islands received almost 930,000 visitors (almost one for each of Fiji's population) and tourism makes up around 40% of the nation's GDP. 

Yet despite its long-standing reputation as an exotic South Seas getaway, there is far more to Fiji than palm trees, sun loungers, and delicious cocktails. The archipelago is made up of 333 individual islands ranging from bustling tourist hubs to idyllically uninhabited, and many of them offer something different for just about every type of traveler.

The Main Island Has Something For Everyone

If you're looking for a good overall blend of scenery, beaches, and the delights of the city, Viti Levu could be the place for you. As Fiji's most populous island and home to the nation's capital, Suva, there is no shortage of things to do and see.

Fiji's international airport is located in Nadi in western Viti Levu and most visitors enter and leave the country here. Far from just a transport hub, it has interesting things to see, such as the vibrantly-colored Hindu Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple and the array of orchids in the evocatively named Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Just a few miles away is Denaru Island, the "beating heart of Fiji tourism," with its plush world-class resorts, golf course, superyachts in the marina, and top-end dining.

If you are traveling as a family, many resorts and beaches are well-suited for people with children. And there is far more to explore than just sand and sea: Kulu Wild Adventure Park is a great day out with its waterslides, ziplines, and wildlife sanctuary, while more intrepid families can experience the thrill of boat rides and tubing on the Navua River.

Suva is a pleasure to wander around with its blend of grand colonial architecture and post-independence Fijian culture. For a glimpse into Fiji's colonial past beyond the architecture of Suva, head out to Ovalau, the main island of the Lamaviti Group. Here you will find traces of the first Europeans who settled on the archipelago. Levuka, a quaint historic port town, was the nation's capital for a short period during the 19th century and became Fiji's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Best And Worst Times Of The Year To Plan Your Fiji Vacation

The South Pacific has an uncanny way with scenery, sunshine, and outdoor adventure that seems designed by nature to impress. Travelers who are fortunate enough to be setting their sights on a vacation to Fiji will find themselves within reach of no less than 333 islands making up the greater archipelago. The landscape here is defined by beautiful beaches, lush tropical foliage, volcanic peaks, and surrounding waters that house coral reefs, too. The expectations are typically high with so many top-rated islands to visit ; however, in all of the excitement, some travelers tend to overlook the environmental factors that could alter their experience significantly upon arrival.

When planning your Fiji vacation, the time of year you decide to travel makes a huge difference. Fiji only has two distinct seasons which include summer and winter. Summer is Fiji's designated wet season, spanning November to April. Winter runs from May to October each year and offers travelers a decidedly drier and sunnier experience. Depending on how you're hoping to spend your time on the islands, understanding the differences between these travel seasons will be key to making your way here during what you might consider to be either the best or worst times of the year.

Winter is wonderful for outdoor adventures

Your travel style can help determine the best time of year to enjoy a getaway to Fiji. If you want to spend ample time outdoors, a winter trip is a good choice. While the word "winter" might conjure up ideas of much cooler weather for your island vacation, Fiji boasts comfortable temperatures during this time. Between May and October, your vacation will likely include sunny skies and average daily highs around 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The coolest months of the season are July and August, and even then, temperatures remain in the refreshing mid-70s. Plus, according to Tourism Fiji , winter months like May in Nadi average only around 3 inches of rain, whereas summer months like March see rainfall averages nearing 13 inches.

This mild weather sets the scene for fun outdoor activities like bicycling along the Coral Coast in Viti Levu. You can rent a bike at the highly-rated  Stinger Bicycles in Nadi and pedal along a coastline known for its mangroves, family-friendly beaches, and dunes. You won't get rained out of trips to places like the popular  Kula Wild Adventure Park , where you can pair ziplining with iguana and sea turtle encounters. Beware of summer rain and humidity

Summer is typically considered the worst season to travel to Fiji because you'll constantly need to be prepared for extreme weather. Downpours are typical between November and April as a result of Fiji's sub-tropical climate. According to Tourism Fiji, destinations like Nadi experience around 18 days of rainfall in January, while Suva sees around 23 rainy days during the same timeframe. Travelers who come to Fiji in the summer will also be met with humid conditions. The most humid period of the year extends from mid-September through early July. The summer month with the highest humidity is typically March, with 31 days "that are muggy or worse," explains  Weather Spark .

The weather this time of year isn't ideal for travel, but there are still options for indoor fun should you find yourself in Fiji during the summer. On a rainy day, the Fiji Museum  — which is rated as one of TripAdvisor's top things to do in Suva — is great for browsing local artifacts spanning nearly 4,000 years of history.
