  • 7th World Travel Expo Holds Dynamic Metro Manila Show from December 8 to 10

Philippines Graphic

One of the biggest and most anticipated annual travel and tourism trade shows in the country is set to hold its much-awaited expo in Metro Manila this December.

Worldtravel2

On its 7 th year, the World Travel Expo is holding its annual event in Metro Manila for the first time in One Ayala, the newest retail, dining, and shopping landmark and hub at the gateway of Ayala Center in Makati City.

The annual show will occupy the Second Level Concourse of the building from December 8 to 10, 2023.

Around 80 booths will showcase the latest and most enticing travel and tourism offers from various exhibitors coming from the hotel, airlines, cruise, travel booking, and other related industries.

The 7 th World Travel Expo is committed to remain as the ultimate event for local and international travels, catering to jetsetters and travelers in the country and nearby regions.

The World Travel Expo 2023 also marks the first time the signature event is rolled out in five key cities nationwide on various occasions.

The upcoming Metro Manila leg will serve as the culminating event of the World Travel Expo series held in Clark (June), Bacolod (July), Cebu (August), Davao (September), and Zamboanga (October).

“The World Travel Expo is keeping up with its tradition of bringing a better lineup each year of amazing travel promos, deals, and packages that will fulfill the aspirations of our guests to have their well-deserved travels and vacations minus the usual hassles,” said Mildred ‘Miles’ Caballero, Managing Director of Ad Asia Events Group OPC (Ad Asia Events), the organizer of the yearly World Travel Expo.

On its 7 th annual edition, the World Trade Expo has also partnered with RCBC Credit Cards to make it easier for travelers who use credit cards to fund their travel goals.

As an event co-presenter, RCBC Credit Cards will be more visible at the expo and will offer privileges and deals, including free and unlimited access to the Marhaba Lounge in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 as well as free Priority Pass membership to allow premium credit cardholders to access various airport lounges across the globe.

The annual World Travel Expo has established itself as a reliable platform for promoting domestic tourism to local and international travelers. It has been serving as a one-stop shop for promoting sales and increasing brand awareness of participating exhibitors. Thus, it is backed by the Department of Tourism.

The 7 th World Travel Expo will run from December 8 to 10, 2023 at the 2 nd Level of One Ayala, the premier transport and commercial hub along EDSA and Ayala Avenue in Makati City. Gates will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. To know more about the 3-day event, visit its website (https://worldtravelxpo.com) or its official Facebook page (@World Travel Expo PH).

Travel Tour Expo Brief History

The PTAA Travel Tour Expo was established in 1993 mainly as an annual market for Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) members for discounted travel deals which have grown immensely thru the years.

During those early years, it was for the sole purpose that PTAA members could have a platform to offer discounted domestic and international travel deals along with other travel related products and merchandize, but now, it is considered as the country’s biggest and the most awaited annual travel and tourism event.

Visitors number had also grown throughout the years generating a big sales volume for all the exhibitors consisting of Travel Agencies & Tour Operators, Airlines, Hotels & Resorts, Food Concessionaires, Theme Parks, Entertainment, Associations, Embassies, National Tourism Organizations including our own Department of Tourism, Cruise Liners, Shipping, Travel Insurance Companies, Travel Essentials, Foreign-based Travel Agencies & Tour Operators, and other travel related entities. Sales of exhibitors have also grown proportionately. Promotions of this event have also elicited a lot of support from media and thru our sponsors.

TTE Visitor Profile targets the Travel & Tourism Trade Practitioners; Corporate and Business Travelers; Holiday Travelers; Incentive and Convention Planners; Government and Business Leaders; Direct Buyers as well as Investors.

Briefly the PTAA Travel Tour Expo started 30 years ago in one of the halls of Megatrade in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City occupying 1, 348 square meters of space. Every year it started to grow that by 2005, it occupied all the halls of Megatrade measuring 3,878 square meters. In 2006, TTE moved to SMX Convention Center and used 4,565 square meters of their floor space. By 2014, TTE occupied the whole ground floor and another exhibition hall in the second floor totaling 11,030 square meters of selling space. In 2015, TTE then occupied the entire SMX Convention Center except for one hall in the second floor. The total space is equivalent to 13,880 square meters. But then for the succeeding years, TTE has been occupying the entire Halls and Function Rooms of the SMX Convention Center which was only disrupted during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Year 2023 is a celebration of TTE’s 30th Year, the “Pearl Anniversary”, with more than 300 Exhibitors occupying 671 booths with a total space of 11,980 square meters. This  milestone is in cooperation with the generosity and full support of the Department of Tourism (DOT); Tourism Promotions Board (TPB); Philippine Airlines; CITIBANK; AirSWIFT; United Airlines; PLDT; Hotel 101; Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA); and Guam Visitors Bureau.  Other events to look forward to during the 3-day Expo are Raffle Draws, Corporate Game Shows, Entertainment, Exhibitors and Sponsors Presentations, Cultural Dance Competition, and Conferences.

Simultaneous with the TravelTour Expo is the conduct of 8th International Travel Trade Expo (iTTE) to be held in the same venue. The iTTE is an innovation that they added to TTE’s successful event in 2015. It’s a B2B travel trade mart devoted towards tapping the growing Philippine market for overseas travel exclusive to travel agents and tour operators to network with local and international travel-related suppliers.

One of the most tempting islands to visit in the Visayas region is the Bantayan Island. Upon docking in Santa Fe, you will already want to take a dip in the water because of the crystal clear and turquoise sea that will welcome you upon disembarking the boat. Indeed, there’s no other way to welcome a tourist to this lovely paradise than giving you a glimpse of what the island has– and that is the beautiful beaches and all sorts of water activities.

All year round, Bantayan Island is swarmed by domestic and international tourists that is why you can find various restaurants and bars with different specialties anywhere you go. Island hopping is the main activity in the island but if you want to experience the island even more, you can also drive from Santa Fe to Madridejos and vice versa. The drive won’t even take half a day as the island is just small.

The most popular route is by taking a bus from Cebu City to Hagnaya Port. Tourists from Palompon can also take a ferry to Bogo City and then take a bus to  Hagnaya Port. From Hagnaya Port, you can catch a public ferry to Santa Fe as early as 7AM.

Another island to visit in 2023 is Siargao Island.

Proudly located in Mindanao, Siargao has been very popular to surfers around the world because of its large waves that are ideal for this watersport. Beginners and even those with no experience also want to try this challenging activity as the highlight of their Siargao trip. But aside from that, there are a lot of activities you can do in Siargao that even some tourists prefer to stay for a month or two to get the most of the island life. The locals on the island are also very fun to be with. On some nights, there are parties held in the most popular hostels and resorts in Siargao so be sure to check with the locals.

You can also just drive at night to check where the crowd is. You will most likely know it because there are usually tricycles and motorcycles for hire waiting outside the venue. You can also find a variety of foods in Siargao. While you get the Instagrammable and expensive ones in resorts, there are also budget-friendly food choices along the road or sometimes outside these resorts. There is also a public market if you want to cook your own fresh seafood.

You can fly through Cebu Pacific to Sayak Airport.  And because this is just a small airport, only small planes can fly in and out of Siargao. Aside from flying, you can also take an overnight passenger boat from Cebu to Surigao City and take another ferry from Surigao to Siargao.

Camiguin Island

travel events 2023 philippines

Camiguin is the smallest island in Mindanao and the second smallest province in the country. However, this small island earned its fierce title as the Island Born of Fire because of the seven volcanoes that have been changing Camiguin’s landscape from time to time. Camiguin is also a combination of heritage sites and beaches. You can find ancestral homes, old churches, and other historical sites all over the island. Hidden in various corners of the island, you can also find waterfalls, natural springs, beaches and diving spots. The most popular of them is the Sunken Cemetery.

Cebu Pacific has small planes flying directly to Camiguin. If you are looking for more flights, you can also fly to Cagayan de Oro or Butuan. From Cagayan airport, you can take the direct shuttle van to Camiguin or you can take the bus/van in Agora Terminal then take a ferry to Camiguin.  – Check flights here.

Domestic travel trends for summer 2023 in the philippines and southeast asia.

Milieu Insight, Southeast Asia’s leading consumer research firm, conducted a survey among 2,500 working individuals aged 20-65 in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia in April 2023 to find out their summer travel plans for this year.

The survey reveals interesting insights on the willingness to travel domestically, concerns for safety, and the number and duration of trips planned for the year. The findings show a positive outlook for the travel industry in the region, with about 8 in 10 respondents (76%) keen to travel in their own country. Almost half of respondents across the region plan to embark on at least 2 to 3 domestic trips this year.

4 in 10 respondents in Thailand intend to take 4 or more trips this year, the highest across the region for domestic travel intent. This suggests that travel companies should consider offering packages and promotions that cater to multiple trips to boost the frequency of travel. Additionally, the duration of travel per trip remains stable across markets, with the majority preferring an average of 3-4 days per trip. This information is valuable for travel companies when planning their packages and promotions.

Malaysia and Thailand Tourism Offices have done well in the promotion of domestic travel

Interestingly, the promotion of the destination is less impactful than a recommendation from family/friends in most countries, except Malaysia and Thailand, which means the tourism offices have done well in boosting local tourism.

The survey also revealed that concerns about COVID-19 safety have waned across most of the countries surveyed, with the Philippines showing the highest level of concern, likely due to rising cases in the country as reported by the Department of Health. (4,456) in the last week of April 2023. Travel spots and sceneries rank highest in key considerations for domestic travel in Indonesia (69%), Thailand (66%), and Vietnam (58%), while the safety of travel (69%) tops the list of considerations for respondents from the Philippines.

Of noteworthy mention is that while the costs of the whole vacation do have an impact on travel decisions, especially for domestic travelers in Indonesia (61%), Malaysia (61%), and Thailand (60%), the weather of the destination takes precedence especially for those living in Thailand (62%), and Vietnam (55%). This could likely be due to concerns about extreme weather events that can happen quite frequently in both countries, reflecting the negative impacts of global warming.

Preferences of domestic destinations and airlines

Beach holidays are popular across the region with destinations known for their beautiful beaches ranked first in each country: Boracay in the Philippines, Bali in Indonesia, Da Nang in Vietnam, Sabah in Malaysia, and Phi Phi Island in Thailand.

Waterfalls across Thailand were hotspots for domestic travelers, with 24% of respondents choosing them as favorite travel destinations.

National carriers (full-service airline) ranked first for the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam: Philippine Airlines (76%), Garuda Indonesia (74%), and Vietnam Airlines (72%), whereas in Malaysia (84%) and Thailand (83%), low cost carrier, AirAsia was the airline of choice likely due to higher price sensitivity for travelers in both the countries, similarly reflected when it came to travel considerations in the above chart.

unnamed 3

When planning holiday activities, Southeast Asians proved to be foodies with about 5 in 10 planning a food trip experience, while 4 in 10 respondents from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam were keen to shop locally. Beach holiday activities were especially popular in the Philippines, with 5 in 10 respondents choosing swimming alongside, supported too by other beach activities like paragliding or parasailing (13%). 65% of Thai respondents showed enthusiasm for touring, which was also a popular activity in Malaysia (45%), Indonesia (40%), and the Philippines (43%). Museum visits are especially popular in Vietnam and Malaysia with at least 2 in 10 inclined to visit a museum while on vacation.

unnamed 5

From sightseeing to relaxing holidays, travel planners should consider that Southeast Asian travelers are drawn to activities that offer them opportunities to relax and unwind. With the diverse food culture in different states, the opportunity to eat like a local and discover hidden food gems will be a draw!

Methodology: Based on Milieu Insight surveys with N=500 respondents who are working individuals aged 20-65 each from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, conducted in April 2023.
