Wareham Boat Hire offer a one hour boat trip leaving five times a day from Wareham Quay. The river cruise takes you down the River Frome towards Poole Harbour with full commentary. The boat is accessible to wheelchairs.

Price: Adults £10 & Children £8.

Although the boat departs from The Quay the company is actually located on the opposite side of the bridge. From here you can hire out rowing boats, kayaks and small self-drive motor boats – no previous experience necessary. See their website for details.

Greenslade Pleasure Boats don’t have any circular cruises starting in Wareham but they do operate a cruise from Poole Quay to Wareham. Cruises begin in May. They don’t operate everyday so you will have to check out their website for dates. The 3 hour 30 minute cruise departs Poole Quay around 12 pm and takes around 1 hour 10 minutes arriving around 1:30 pm. The boat then departs Wareham around 2.40pm arriving back at Poole Quay at 3.30pm. Exact times depend on the tide so check their website or give them a call. It may be possible to buy just a one-way ticket. This means that you could take a bus from Wareham to Poole in the morning and return by boat in the afternoon. Alternatively you could take the boat to Poole Quay and return by bus later in the afternoon. One-way ticket price are around £10 adults & £7 children

Greenslade Pleasure Boats offer boat trips from Poole Quay to Brownsea Island, Wareham and around the harbour and along the coast.

Boats depart from Poole Quay from 10.00am and then every half hour throughout the day.

Greenslade Pleasure Boats have been providing boat trips and pleasure cruises since 1970 and now operate three boats, each capable of holding between 150 to 179 people.

The Purbeck Princess has an open top viewing deck with 122 seats and a large lower saloon area, which has some seating and tables, a bar and toilet facilities. She is capable of carrying 179 passengers and is the largest in the fleet.

The Purbeck Pride is slightly smaller than her sister ship, with a capacity of 157. This boat also has an open seated top deck with 100 seats plus a lower saloon area with tables and seating, a bar and toilets.

Finally the Purbeck Gem has an open top viewing deck with 75 seats and a lower saloon area with more seating. This vessel is used for the Wareham River cruises as the river is shallow in places.

The Cruises

Poole Harbour Cruise

Enjoy a full pleasure cruise around the harbour. Trips run every half hour and you’ll get to see all five islands, the Dorset Lakelands and views over to the Isle of Purbeck, with full on-board commentary included.

Wareham River Cruise

The Wareham River cruise is a relaxing boat trip along the picturesque River Frome to the historic town of Wareham. It takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach Wareham where you will then have just over an hour ashore to do what you like before returning back to Poole. All in all the duration of this boat trip is 3 ½ hours. Teas, coffees, wine, beer and snacks are all available on board the boat.

Coastal Cruise

They also offer Coastal Cruises where you will see Brownsea Island, Dorset Lakelands, Isle of Purbeck, Old Harry Rocks, Poole Bay and Sandbanks.

You will find Greenslade Pleasure Boats on Poole Quay, just look out for the white and orange kiosk!

How to get to wareham.

We’ve got the details of how you can reach this beautiful riverside town whether by bus, train, car, or even boat…!

Wareham is fed by the A351 from the West, the A352 from the East, and the B3075 from the North and South. Being a very popular destination the roads to Wareham can get very busy, especially during the summer, so please leave plenty of time if you are heading here. Beware especially of the stretch between the Bakers Arms and Wareham known locally as the Sandford Road.

There are several car parks in town, at: Bonnets Lane, Connegar Lane (off Church Lane), Howards Lane, Rempstone Centre (Church Street, behind Sainsburys), St John’s Hill, Streche Road and Wareham Quay. Note there are spaces at Streche Road for coaches and lorries (up to 7.5 tonnes) for a maximum 23 hours stay.

Charges apply between 10.00 am and 7.00 pm on all days of the year, including Sundays and Bank Holidays. Parking is free before 10.00 am and after 7.00 pm and a ticket must be obtained immediately.

From Bournemouth: take the More Bus M1 or M2 buses to Poole, then from Poole transfer to More Bus number 40 or First Bus X54 .

From Swanage: take the More Bus   number 40 .

From West Lulworth:  take the More Bus number  30 or First Bus   X54 .

From Weymouth: take the More Bus number 30 or First Bus   X54 .

By Train ...

Wareham station is on the London Waterloo to Weymouth line, and is less than a mile from the town centre. 

There are 69 spaces in the car park which is open 24 hours a day and costs £3.10 per day. There are usually taxis outside the station, and you can catch bus number X54 from near the station. There is cycle storage available.

There are a number of pleasure boats trips you can take from Poole to Wareham and from the town itself.

Throughout the year Greenslade offers a special return cruise to Wareham from Poole Quay. Each journey takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes  along the Frome river, plus time ashore. As a bonus along the way, the skipper gives a commentary pointing out places of interest and wildlife!

Brownsea Island Ferries

During the warmer months (April to September) Brownsea Island Ferries offers a morning cruise to Wareham from Poole on board one of their distinctive yellow boats. The cruise lasts 1¼ hours each way, plus time ashore.

City Cruises Poole

City Cruises Poole also offer a relaxing and tranquil cruise up the River Frome from Poole Quay. Their cruises take place in the evening and run from April to the end of August. The trips last 3 hours 30 minutes including time ashore in Wareham.

Friends of Dolphin

Another Poole based boat company is the Friends of Dolphin that visits Wareham from 11 am and returning at approximately 2.30 pm. Uniquely, it provides free trips for disabled persons of all ages and disabilities.

For those already in Wareham just looking for a trip up and down the River Frome to take in all there is to see, then Wareham River Cruises is the main choice. Take a 40 minute trip on their 12 seater Admiralty Whaler ‘Orca’. There is a commentary onboard describing the history of the Wareham. Trips go every 45 minutes from 10 am from 1st April until the 30th of September. In high season they may run earlier and later trips.
