Best Times to Visit Singapore

Singapore is located in the tropics and has an equatorial rainy climate. It is warm/hot throughout the year without a winter. The average daily temperature range is 24 to 31 °C (75–88°F). The least sweltering month is January with an average temperature range of 22 to 30 degrees Celsius (72–86°F). Slightly hotter temperatures average 25–32°C (77–90°F) from February to June.

There is only one of the obvious four seasons of temperate climes in Singapore — only summer — but there is a distinctly less wet season and a very wet season. The monsoon rainy season is from November to January.

Singapore is a country that's suitable for year-round travel and the best time for you to go depends on what you want to do in Singapore.

If you do not like wet weather, you might consider the months of lowest rainfall on average (still moderate to high): February, September, and June

If you like food, you could choose to go to Singapore in April for the annual World Chef Summit or July for the Singapore Food Festival (July 10-26), when there are food tasting activities at Clarke Quay, Chinatown, and many other attractions.

If you like shopping, you could come from June to July for the shopping discount season, when large shopping malls attract tourists with their discounts.

If you like a lively holiday atmosphere, November to December is the best time. From November to December, the shining celebrations of Deepavali, Christmas and New Year's Day will light up the entire Lion City.

If you are a motor racing fan, you should go in September, when Singapore hosts the only F1 night race in the world.

Singapore travel can be expensive, and it is always higher during the festivals, such as Chinese Lunar New Year in January or February. So, to keep travel costs down, avoid the festivals.

When would you like to take a Singapore trip? Let us tailor-make a Singapore tour to your requirements.

Singapore Festivals

Chinese new year.

Celebrated: in January or February

About 75% of Singapore people are ethnic Chinese, so Chinese lunar New Year is the most important festival in Singapore for many. During that time, you will see dazzling lanterns along the streets, parades, and performances nearly everywhere in the city. The biggest celebration is in Chinatown.

Unmissable Celebrations:

  • Enjoy the street lighting-up ceremony in Chinatown prior to the festival.
  • Join the cul class="infolist"orful Chingay Parade from 1 Republic Boulevard to NS Square.
  • Immerse yourself in the River Hongbao garden festivities in NS Square.

Christmas on Orchard Road

Celebrated: from November 16th

Orchard Road is one of the most popular shopping streets in Singapore, and also a world-class shopping destination. The road is particularly brilliant and beaming during the Christmas period.

  • Enjoy the iconic lighting-up ceremony.

In Singapore, Christmas comes early every year, starting from mid-November. With the official launch of the Christmas lighting ceremony on November 16, this lively and fashionable district of Orchard Road is transformed into a cul class="infolist"orful fantasy world with laughter and joy, allowing you to immerse yourself in the joy of the festival in advance.

The lighting and decorations stretch 3.88 kilometers (2.4 miles) from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura (including Scotts Road, Grange Road, and Orchard Road). And they stay up until January 1, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this feast for the senses.

  • Have fun at the Happy Christmas Village Fantasy Carnival.
  • Join the Christmas countdown party — the climax of the hul class="infolist"iday celebrations.
  • Shop happily on Orchard Road. Many shops offer discounts to attract guests during that time.

Celebrated: from October or November for a month

Deepavali, also called "the Festival of Lights", is a national cultural festival in Singapore. On this day, thousands of Hindu families in Singapore will light up their warm yellow oil lamps (deepas) at home to pray to Lakshmi, god of fertility and prosperity. Little India is the best place to enjoy Deepavali, which is decorated gorgeously at that time. There will be various exquisite elephant and peacock statues on the street, and the ground is covered with traditional Indian Rangul class="infolist"i paintings.

The day of Deepavali is different each year. It will be on October 31st in 2024, but the celebration can last more than a month, from the week before the festival to a month after the festival. The highlights are always in the week before Deepavali Day.

1. Participate in the "Silver Chariot procession". Devotees drag a silver carriage carrying a statue of the goddess Sri Drowpathai Amman from Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown (one of the ul class="infolist"dest Hindu temples in Singapore) all the way to Little India.

2. Enjoy the Fire Dance Festival (Theemithi) held in the Mariamman Hindu Temple. In this ritual, thousands of male believers step on burning coals with their bare feet to pay homage to the goddess. Theemithi is held about a week before Deepavali Day.

3. Enjoy wonderful traditional performances in Little India. The performances last for a few nights before Deepavali.

Singapore Food Festival

Celebrate time: from mid-July

  • Taste all kinds of delicious food and have the opportunity to see the delicious masterpieces cooked by the chefs.
  • Experience various celebrations, workshops, and live music performances. STREAT is the iconic event of the Food Festival, where you can try different kinds of street food.

What is more, Mid-Autumn Festival, Vesak Day, Thaipusam, Hari Raya Puasa are also the popular festivals in Singapore. See more on SE Asia Festivals .

In addition, most buses do not announce the stations , and some only display the name of the next station on their electronic screens. So please be aware of the stops situation when you take a bus.

Taxis are convenient in Singapore. It is easy to take one from hotels, attractions, or shopping malls. The taxi fare starts around 3 SGD (2 USD), and then it's about 0.22 SGD (0.15 USD) for every 400 meters.

1. You can buy an EZ-Link Card or a Singapore Tourist Pass to take the MRT or buses in Singapore with cashless convenience.

2. There is a credit card machine at the front and rear doors of the buses. Please remember to scan your card when you get on the bus at the front door and scan it again when you get off at the rear door.

3. There are many taxi companies in Singapore, such as Comfort, City Cab, SMRT, Trans-Cab, Premier Taxis. SMRT provides advanced taxi services, so the cost will be more expensive.

Private car is always the most comfortable way to get around. Contact Asia Highlights for private transfers.

singapore journey

It was a whirlwind across a number of cities, but a very comprehensive experience across the many sides and cultures of China. Most days had sufficient activities, but weren’t overwhelming, which was great.Across cities, we had excellent tour guides, like Kitty (Beijing), Jenny (Xian), William (Guilin/Yangshuo), Kris (Shanghai), and Tony (Yellow Mountains.)

singapore journey

From the time we landed in Beijing until we left, we were well taken care of. My wife and I had Lily Liu as our guide and she was amazing. From arranging visits to all the different sights, to teaching us the history, it was fantastic.

The tour was excellent. Selinda was very knowledgeable about all the aspects of our tour. Selinda was very interesting and knew so much Chinese history

We made a private tour through South China in January 2024. Altogether Chengdu was the highlight. We had an incredible day at Emeishan. In Chengdu our guidewas Helen. She was the diamond of all. Speaking fluently English, full of interesting stories, laughing and talking all the time. We missed her the rest of our tour. We highly recommend to go to Chengdu for 3 days when visiting China, especially with Helen.

Other highlights are too many to mention but here are a few Ken taking us to the Terracotta Warriors and our food tour in Xian was amazing,

Our day volunteering at the Panda Base was truly unforgettable. Helen, our guide, provided us with invaluable insights about Chengdu and the pandas, enriching our tour with her knowledge and expertise. We're grateful to Helen for accompanying us throughout the day and showcasing the highlights of China.

We had a booking with China Highlights through Silvia Ye who guarenteed a perfect organisation. In Chengdu our guide was Helen. She was the diamond of all. Speaking fluently English, full of interesting stories, laughing and talking all the time. We missed her the rest of our tour. We highly recommend to go to Chengdu for 3 days when visiting China, especially with Helen.

We traveled to China during the Chinese new year and we had Kris as our guide and he is simply knowledgeable, helpful and great.

We visited Guilin for 2 days and stayed in the Guilin Waterfall hotel. Guilin was absolutely beautiful! Our guide, William, was very knowledgeable and kind! He taught us so much about Guilin and the surrounding area! We really enjoyed trying the specialty rice noodles of Guilin. Our highlight was the Li river cruise.

Amazing tour and the guide Mr. 贺霄 was very accommodating with our needs and request as we have bought our 2 years old with us. Well explained for all the place we visited. Any additional cost were informed well ahead and didn't felt any pressure if we opt not to go for additional detour. The trip was relaxing/ laid back/no rushing with zero shopping!

A young woman solo traveler checking a map in a Singapore street market

From the Marina Bay to the hawker centers, here are Singapore's best unmissable experiences © lechatnoir / Getty Images

Singapore may be small compared to its Asian neighbors, but there's a  lot  packed into this city-state. Between the incredible food markets and high-end restaurants, gleaming skyline and cultural wealth, your main problem will be knowing where to start.

Its compact size makes it easy to get around quickly, meaning you can pack a lot into a short trip or even a layover. Here are my 10 top things to do in Singapore .

Man is putting food on the plate at one of the singaporean hawker centers.

1. Dine on Singapore's famous hawker food

There are plenty of fine dining establishments in Singapore, but if you want to eat like a local , head to any of the country's open-air hawker centers and fill your belly with a range of cheap and diverse street food. So culturally significant are these hawker centers that they were inscribed to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020.

Wondering which one to choose first? Every Singaporean will recommend a different favorite, but some good options include: Chinatown Complex , the largest with over 200 stalls; Lau Pa Sat , one of the most historical as a gazetted national monument; East Coast Lagoon Food Village by the sea, perhaps one of the most scenic; and the famous Newton Food Center featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

Local tip: Most hawkers only take cash, so bring small notes and coins.

A woman and man chatting on the Marina Bay walkway in Singapore

2. Admire Singapore's iconic skyline at Marina Bay

Show off that you're in Singapore by snapping that postcard-worthy shot of the iconic architecture surrounding Marina Bay. It may be hard to believe, but this area was empty swathes of land until 2010 – and before that, it was open sea.

Taking a walk along the waterfront is one of the best things to do in Singapore for free . Admire the three towers of the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, take a goofy shot with the water-spouting Merlion statue and stroll across the Helix Bridge (with its DNA-inspired swirls) towards the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum .

Planning tip: Sunset is a good time to start your walk around Marina Bay. It's cooler, the building lights blaze in their full glory, and if you time it right, you can catch the light and sound shows at the Marina Bay Sands waterfront and Supertree Grove along the way.

3. Indulge in nightlife along the Singapore River

The Singapore River was once the historic center of Singapore in its early entrepôt trading days, and it's the nexus from which the city expanded as it prospered. The warehouses that stored goods along the river banks have since been converted into some of Singapore's top nightlife districts.

Located closest to the river mouth, Boat Quay is the place to enjoy drinks at more laidback pubs with the best waterfront views. Further down, Clarke Quay is home to trendier clubs and watering holes; if you keep going, Robertson Quay offers a quieter enclave with a cluster of nice dining establishments and cafes.

Local tip: Take a river cruise in an old bumboat – these small boats used to trawl the river loaded with goods, and they are a convenient way to sightsee if you need a break from walking.

Colorful Haji Lane is in Kampong Gelam area of in Singapore

4. Explore Singapore's historic neighborhoods

Singapore's heritage ethnic neighborhoods were created as a result of British colonial policy that divided the population into different districts according to where they came from. Today, these neighborhoods offer a glimpse into the major ethnic groups that make up Singapore's diverse culture.

Colorful Chinatown – located near the mouth of the Singapore River – has a delightful mix of temples and shophouses alongside hip restaurants and trendy bars. Kampong Gelam, where the Malays and Arabs lived, centers around the former Sultan's palace and the magnificent Sultan Mosque . And it's easy to lose a few hours wandering the lanes of Little India amidst a mix of aromatic spices, vivid pagodas and bustling weekend crowds.

Detour: Tiong Bahru is one of Singapore's oldest neighborhoods, and today it's gentrified into an intriguing mix of traditional and trendy shops. Meanwhile, Joo Chiat in the east is the best place to learn about the unique mixed Peranakan culture and to see colorful shophouses.

5. Stroll through Singapore's finest gardens

Singapore's "Garden City" nickname is well deserved, thanks to the 400 parks and green spaces all across the island. Gardens by the Bay is one of the most popular thanks to the alien-like Supertrees and the twin glass hemispheres that house the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest – the perfect climate-controlled escape when the tropical humidity gets too sweltering.

Pay a visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens , one of the few tropical gardens that have been inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage list to date. It's also home to the National Orchid Garden, which has the world's largest orchid display.

A teenage boy hiking in a forest in Singapore

6. Hike Singapore's nature trails

Nature lovers can't miss the 10km-long (6.2 miles)  Southern Ridges , one of the most scenic trails in Singapore; highlights include the country's tallest pedestrian bridge and panoramic views of the southern coastline from Mount Faber . Other great options include trekking the 25m-high (33ft) canopy-level Treetop Walk in MacRitchie Reservoir or summiting Singapore's highest peak (a mere 163m/534ft high) in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve .

Detour: For a real challenge, hike the full 24km-long (15 miles) Rail Corridor that traverses Singapore from south to north along the former railway line that linked Singapore to Malaysia.

7. Visit Singapore's offshore islands

If you're looking to escape Singapore's ubiquitous tall buildings, your best bet is to hop on a boat and sail to its islands for the day. Sentosa  is the easiest to get to, and it's home to a wide range of attractions, including white sandy beaches, Universal Studios and a casino.

For quieter spots filled with nature, take a ferry to the Southern Islands cluster of St John's , Lazarus and Kusu Islands, or head up north to Pulau Ubin for the excellent Chek Jawa Wetlands Reserve , outdoor adventure trails, and a throwback to what early Singapore village life might have been like.

Planning tip: Weekends and holidays may see more people visiting the islands, but there will also be a higher frequency of ferries available.

8. Delve into Singapore's history at its best museums

Museum lovers will rejoice at Singapore's array of well-maintained and cutting-edge national museums that showcase the country's culture and history. The National Museum of Singapore , the country's oldest museum, houses immersive multimedia exhibits that trace Singapore's history from past to present, while the majestic National Gallery located in the former City Hall and Supreme Court has the largest collection of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art.

For those interested in WWII history, Fort Siloso on Sentosa Island is the last remaining preserved coastal fort, while the Battle Box in Fort Canning Park lets visitors access the former command center of the British troops. A more remote option worth checking out is the Changi Museum & Chapel , which features stories collected from the POWs of the Japanese Occupation and a replica of the Changi Murals painted by a POW.

9. Spend a day at Singapore's wildlife attractions

As space for natural landscapes and wildlife is scarce in Singapore, the Mandai Wildlife Reserve up north offers the best way to experience animal encounters in a controlled environment. Here you'll discover the famous Singapore Zoo with its naturalistic enclosures, the nocturnal Night Safari for animal experiences after dark, River Wonders with river-themed habitats and the Giant Panda enclosure, and the aviaries of Bird Paradise .

For those with a love for the deep blue sea, the S.E.A Aquarium on Sentosa Island houses over 100,000 marine creatures across its two floors of immersive tanks.

Planning tip: Taxis to Mandai Wildlife Reserve incur an additional $3 surcharge because of its remote location. Make the most of Singapore's excellent public transport system and take the MRT to Khatib Station where a $2  Mandai Khatib Shuttle delivers you right to the park's doorstep.

10. Experience Singapore's quirky side

Singapore's big-name attractions are must-sees, but there are plenty of activities that will show you more unusual sides of this island nation. Haw Par Villa is a park filled with statues and dioramas from Chinese stories and mythology – some of which are rather… eccentric. The MINT Museum of Toys is a small private museum next to the renowned Raffles Hotel with the largest collection of vintage toys in Asia.

SINGAPORE: To find out what it could do to provide a psychologically safe working environment, Singapore-based port operator PSA Corporation commissioned a multilingual well-being survey to gather feedback from more than 3,000 of its employees who were migrant workers, including its suppliers and contractors.

The survey, created together with a clinical psychologist, was crafted in the native languages of all of its employees to be both accessible and “sensitive to their cultural needs”.

Mr Cheang Chee Kit, PSA’s head of health, safety and security for Southeast Asia, told TODAY: “We wanted to prioritise the sensitivity of our people and a psychologically safe environment to share honestly, especially those who are struggling.”

The data and feedback gathered indicated that the employees wanted “community-based support”. This was why the company increased its peer support and para-counselling resources, and ran more recreational activities to allow for “real people-to-people connections”, Mr Cheang added.

For its efforts, PSA received the Wellbeing Innovation Award on Thursday (Mar 14) at this year’s WorkWell Leaders Awards – an annual awards gala in its second edition that aims to recognise the best-practice standards in addressing systemic change for mental health at the workplace.

The awards’ judging panel, which comprised senior leaders from corporations and experts in the field of organisational well-being and mental health, assessed PSA’s initiative as the most unique programme to address employee mental health and well-being among two other shortlistees.

The judges said that PSA’s use of data to safeguard the well-being of migrant workers was the "first of its kind", and that it allowed access to support "at the right time in the right places".

In a pre-recorded video address for the awards ceremony, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam urged corporate leaders to "make your company a role model, a beacon of a culture of empathy, a culture that provides proactive support to those with different shades of anxiety or depression".

“Make it an enjoyable place for everyone to work,” he added.

The event, held at Conrad Singapore Orchard hotel, also saw five other awards given out to:

  • The National University of Singapore (NUS), which won the Environmental, Social and Governance Wellbeing Strategy Award
  • Otis International Asia Pacific, a global elevator and escalator manufacturer, which won the Healthy Workplace Culture Award
  • Dr Prem Kumar Nair, group chief executive officer of integrated healthcare provider IHH Healthcare, who took the Wellbeing CEO Award
  • Mr Clarence Ti, deputy president (administration) of NUS, who took the CEO's Wellbeing Partner Award
  • Otis International Asia Pacific, which won the Wellbeing Organisation of the Year Award

NEW NATIONAL BENCHMARK

WorkWell Leaders, the Singapore-based charity that organised the event, announced that it would establish a new national "benchmark" for workplace mental health and well-being, to which organisations may aspire.

This standard would be based on the results of an upcoming study assessing the impact that both individual interventions and organisation-wide initiatives can have on employee well-being and business outcomes.

Ms Anthea Ong, founder and chairperson of WorkWell Leaders, told TODAY that individual interventions to assist employees with their personal problems are important for workplace well-being, but it is equally important to have an “organisation-wide transformation of culture”.

This includes positive leader behaviours, autonomy in workload and work design, as well as instilling a sense of belonging to the company.

singapore journey

Ms Ong, who was a Nominated Member of Parliament from 2018 to 2020 and had been an advocate for policy changes in mental health in that time, said that the benchmark would also serve as a tool to allow boards and management to be “better informed about the kinds of strategies and investments that they need for long-term value creation”.

This new benchmark and study is expected to be completed late this year.
