2023 WGC-Dell Match Play tee times, TV coverage, viewer's guide
Kevin C. Cox
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
This week's WGC-Dell Match Play Championship is being held for the last time at Austin Country Club, and this would appear to be the last we'll see of the match-play format for an individual PGA Tour event for the foreseeable future. (It's also quite likely the last event played under the World Golf Championships banner after a 24-year run.) At least we’re going out with a strong field featuring eight of the top 10 players in the world, led by recent Players victor Scottie Scheffler looking to defend yet another championship.
A year ago, Scheffler won in Austin, defeating Kevin Kisner in the final, for what was his third title in a six-week span. The victory propelled him to World No. 1 for the first time and was a prelude to his Masters win two weeks later. Along with Scheffler, we’ll see Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Will Zalatoris, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Tony Finau in this March Madness-esque event.
The 64-player field will be split into 16 four-man groups for a three days of round-robin primed for chaos and upsets. The winners from each pool advance to the weekend, with the Sweet 16 and quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday and the semifinals and finals on Sunday en route to crowning a champ.
The winner will receive 550 FedEx Cup points and a $3.5 million share of the $20 million purse.

2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play tee times: Semifinal matches for Sunday
The 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play continues on Sunday morning with the semifinal matches at Austin Country Club . You can find full semifinal tee times and matchups at the bottom of this post.
Featured match for Semifinals
With just four golfers left for the final day of match play, we’re not picking favorites between the two semifinal bouts.
In the first semifinal, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will take on Presidents Cup partner and good friend Sam Burns. Scheffler is coming off a hard-fought quarters win over Jason Day, in which he battled from 3 Down on the front nine to eventually walk off with a near ace on the 17th hole.
Burns meanwhile dispatched Canadian Mackenzie Hughes 3 and 2 in the Saturday afternoon session.
In the other semifinal, Rory McIlroy will face off against Cam Young after both players needed all 18 holes to win their quarterfinal matches 1 Up.
McIlroy took on Xander Schauffele in a rematch of their 2021 Ryder Cup singles match and the two put on a show, shooting a 59 on their combined best ball. That goes with the nine birdies McIlroy made in the morning Saturday.
Young grabbed a 3 Up lead through nine holes in his quarterfinal against Kurt Kitayama and hung on as the Arnold Palmer Invitational winner attempted a comeback. Young is the only semifinalist without a win on the PGA Tour.
Scheffler and Burns tee off at 10:05 a.m. ET, while McIlroy and Young start at 10:20 a.m. ET.
You can stream Sunday’s Semifinals via PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ or watch the action on Golf Channel and NBC. Browse the complete semifinal tee times for the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play below.

How to watch the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024 online from anywhere using a VPN
If you find yourself unable to view the tournament locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.
With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the tournament. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.
Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Quick tips for streaming the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024 using a VPN
- With four variables at play -- your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN -- your experience and success when streaming may vary.
- If you don't see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the "search for city or country" option.
- If you're having trouble getting the tournament after you've turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
- All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
- And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave .

Tiger Woods to play in prestigious Seminole pro-member Monday
- Senior college football writer
- Author of seven books on college football
- Graduate of the University of Georgia
Tiger Woods hasn't said whether he will compete in the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass -- the so-called fifth major -- later this month, but he will be making at least one start in Florida.
Woods, 48, is scheduled to play in Monday's prestigious Seminole pro-member tournament at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida. It will be Woods' first appearance in the event.
According to a tee sheet posted on X by 5 Clubs Golf, the 15-time major championship winner is scheduled to play with PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh, Justin Thomas and Mike Walrath, CEO of the software company Yext.
The field for the 18-hole event also includes Rory McIlroy and his father, Gerry; former NFL quarterback Tom Brady ; Seminoles Golf Club president and PGA Tour policy board independent director Jimmy Dunne III; MLB commissioner Rob Manfred; LPGA star Nelly Korda ; and PGA Tour players Tony Finau , Rickie Fowler , Matt Fitzpatrick , Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young .
For the second year in a row, the field does not include LIV Golf League players.
On Feb. 16, Woods withdrew from the second round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club outside Los Angeles because of illness, which was later confirmed to be influenza. He received IV bags and was treated by physicians at the club.
Woods was making his first start in an official PGA Tour event since he withdrew from the rain-delayed third round at the Masters in April.
Since returning to professional golf after he suffered serious injuries in a car wreck outside Los Angeles in February 2021, Woods has withdrawn or missed the cut in four of his six starts. His two finishes were a tie for 45th in the 2023 Genesis Invitational and a solo 47th in the 2022 Masters.
Last month, Woods said he hoped to play at least one tournament a month if his body would allow it. The field for the Players Championship, which is scheduled for March 14-17 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, will be announced Friday.
2024 Cognizant Classic scores: Rory McIlroy lurking as Bud Cauley leads at PGA National after Round 2
U proars of too many birdies and low scores Thursday at the 2024 Cognizant Classic gave way to blustery conditions and the PGA National course golf fans have come to know and love emerging on Friday. A day after playing about one and a half strokes under par, PGA National played about two strokes more difficult in the second round. While players struggled, Bud Cauley surged in the afternoon and heads into the weekend with the solo lead at 11 under.
Windy during the middle portion of the day, Palm Beach experienced a reprieve from breezes towards the end of Round 2 aiding the early-late wave. Cauley was right there to take advantage as he signed for six birdies and no bogeys to card one of the rounds of the day at 6-under 65.
It's almost poetic that Cauley found his way to the top of the leaderboard after a hard day given his difficult journey to this point. Away from the sport for three years due to injury, the 33-year-old has had to scratch and claw back to this stage. In only the second PGA Tour start of this comeback, he finds himself with a chance to win.
Cauley's path to the winner's circle won't get any easier over the weekend with names like Cameron Young, Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy in the mix. McIlroy continues to lurk around PGA National and backed up his opening 67 with another to sit three adrift at 8 under. The 34-year-old remained patient for most of his round before catching fire with two birdies around the Bear Trap and another on the par-5 finisher.
Encountering a rather inauspicious start to his PGA Tour season after winning on the DP World Tour to begin 2024, McIlroy continues to march forward and sharpen his game as the Masters approaches. His West Coast swing was riddled with short stretches of poor play that ultimately upended his chances of contending at Pebble Beach and Riviera. Through 36 holes, the 2012 champion has been able to dodge the big number, but they will continue to be a possibility over the weekend given the treacherous nature of PGA National.
1. Bud Cauley (-11)
Cauley is a name that has been around the PGA Tour for some time but not enough in recent memory. A single-car accident in which he was a passenger in the summer of 2018 left Cauley with six broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken leg. He returned to competition, but complications and surgeries forced him to the sidelines again in 2020.
He would stay there up until this year, and after a couple rehab starts on the Korn Ferry Tour, Cauley was ready for the main stage. The WM Phoenix Open marked his first official PGA Tour start since the 2020 Fortinet Championship and the beginning of his march toward fulfilling his major medical extension. This week could go a long ways towards that and a long way towards reminding fans -- and maybe even Cauley -- of the type of golfer he is.
Other contenders
T2. Austin Eckroat, Garrick Higgo (-10)
T4. Kevin Yu, Victor Perez (-9)
T6. David Skinns, C.T. Pan, Shane Lowry, Cameron Young, Rory McIlroy, Jake Knapp (-8)
The bevy of long shot winners coming through on the PGA Tour has been the big storyline in the early stages of the 2024 season, but the influx of European talent should not go unnoticed. The nine players on the PGA Tour who earned their status via finishing top 10 on the DP World Tour in 2023 have been fabulous to start the year, and Perez is the one carrying the torch this week.
"I think it's great," Perez said referring to DP World Tour players earning PGA Tour cards. "I don't know if the PGA Tour members particularly like it, giving 10 spots, and then there's been a winner with Matt[ieu Pavon], and then Sammy [Valimaki] finished second last leak, really close, coming down to the last hole with Jake. I think it's been great, but it shows that the game is becoming more and more global, and there's some great players coming out of Europe. It's a good group of guys. I think Robert [MacIntyre] played really well, as well, last week. Hopefully more of that for the 10 of us."
Rickie returning to form?
The downward trajectory of Fowler's game since his victory at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic has gone relatively unreported. He has struggled to piece his entire game together, experienced a poor Ryder Cup where he battled illness and has unfortunately carried this into 2024.
He spoke earlier in the year about needing to validate his 2023 with another strong campaign in 2024. His first five starts have not helped his cause as ball-striking issues have been met with putter problems. His second-round 67 in blustery conditions has propelled him into the mix at the Cognizant Classic, and perhaps it will propel him into the rest of the season.
"I would prefer it to be windy," said Fowler. "Partly I feel like it helps separate a little bit. Yesterday morning, we teed off late, but seeing the conditions with it being pretty calm in the morning, definitely allows for some scores. It's still not an easy golf course, but when it's windy you can make up more ground putting up a round under par. We'll see. Hopefully wind will stay up and that'll kind of get me back in a good position for the weekend."
2024 Cognizant Classic updated odds, picks
Odds via Sportsline Consensus
- Rory McIlroy: 4-1
- Cameron Young: 9-1
- Austin Eckroat: 9-1
- Bud Cauley: 11-1
- Shane Lowry: 12-1
- Garrick Higgo: 12-1
- Jake Knapp: 16-1
- Kevin Yu: 16-1
- Victor Perez: 22-1
McIlroy is driving the cover off the golf ball at the moment and has gotten next to nothing out of his iron play. He stands at a price similar to that from pre-tournament and should be the benefactor of contenders wilting due to weekend nerves. The world No. 2 hasn't pieced it all together through 36 holes, but if he does, he should in with a very real chance come late Sunday evening.

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational live stream, watch online, TV schedule, tee times, radio, golf coverage
Players travel to orlando for the last signature event before the masters.
The 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational marks the second of three player invitationals and the fourth of eight signature events on the PGA Tour schedule. Not only does this tournament hold those designations, but it is also a part of the Open Qualifying Series, meaning a spot in the field for the 152nd Open at Royal Troon will be up for grabs.
Those who need not worry about qualifying about the last major championship of the season include world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Making his first start in Florida this week at Bay Hill Club & Lodge, he aims to keep a good thing going at the king's palace. A winner in 2022, Scheffler came close to successfully defending his title a year ago when Kurt Kitayama emerged from a star-studded leaderboard that included the likes of Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth.
McIlroy is in the field again amid a busy stretch of play for the Ulsterman. Ramping up his preparations for the Masters, McIlroy is driving the golf ball as well as ever but has failed to avoid the big numbers in his first few starts of the 2024 PGA Tour season. If he is the one who plans to stop this streak of longshot winners, McIlroy will need to keep the ball in play around this dangerous par 72.
In total, 14 of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are set to tee it up, with Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick and Collin Moriakwa all enjoying past success around Bay Hill. Min Woo Lee grabbed a spot in the field thanks to his runner-up performance at the Cognizant Classic and jumped inside the Aon Swing 5 for what will be the last signature event until after the Masters.

More consistent Kurt Kitayama returns to Bay Hill to defend
Change Text Size
ORLANDO, Fla. – Kurt Kitayama returns to Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge as a different player than the one who won last year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. The Kitayama who won last year at Bay Hill – holding off a leaderboard that featured the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth – was much more unpredictable.
When he was on, he was capable of hanging with the best players in the world. But when he was off, he was off.
Not anymore. A more consistent Kitayama has emerged after he began working with swing instructor Chris Como last summer. Kitayama arrives at Bay Hill having made 10 consecutive cuts, including all five he’s played in 2024.
That’s much different than the player who arrived at Bay Hill last year. In 32 starts as a TOUR member before last year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, Kitayama made barely half of his cuts (17). But he also had four top-10 finishes, and he finished all four of those events in the top three. He challenged the likes of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm in those events, as well, a testament to a self-belief that didn’t cower in the presence of some of golf’s best players.
Como said Kitayama’s combination of physical and mental attributes gives him the opportunity to be one of the best players in the world.
“He has a ton of speed, which is obviously helpful. He has that knack to get super-hot with his irons and hit balls really close (to the hole),” Como said. “The fact that he has been somewhat inconsistent off the tee historically, but still has the ability to hang in a round, shows he has no give-up in him from a mental and emotional perspective. He has the right raw ingredients physically with a really mature and well-developed mental game.”
Kurt Kitayama on building consistency throughout season
It was the occasional foul ball that hurt Kitayama before. He hit two balls out-of-bounds in his win here last year, making a 7 in both the third and final rounds. One was a blocked tee shot on the par-5 fourth hole on Saturday. Then came a big miss left into Bay Hill’s driving range on the ninth hole of the final round. The triple-bogey didn’t derail him, however.
Kurt Kitayama’s costly triple bogey after drive just out of bounds at Arnold Palmer
“(If) you’re in an uncomfortable situation, and whether it’s on the golf course or off, you just got to deal with it,” Kitayama said that Sunday. He knows about being outside his comfort zone, having played an estimated 10 tours around the world before arriving on the PGA TOUR in 2021.
Even after his win at Bay Hill, Kitayama missed the cut in seven of the next 10 individual events he played. But sprinkled in there was a T4 finish at the PGA Championship and a quarterfinal appearance at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. He hasn’t missed a cut since the Travelers Championship in June, however, and his streak of 10 straight cuts made is the 12th-longest active streak on TOUR.
“That was the biggest goal changing coaches, was to not have such an up-and-down year,” Kitayama said. Como said he aimed to “help (Kurt) drive it better, … but do it in a way that doesn’t undermine his iron play.”
Thus far in 2024, the plan seems to be working.
Kitayama has jumped nearly 100 spots in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee since last year. He was 126th (-0.12) in that metric in 2023 despite ranking 13th in clubhead speed (121.9 mph). This year, he’s 39th in SG: Off-the-Tee (+0.38) and 20th in SG: Approach-the-Green.
“I think when my swing got off, I wasn't really sure what I was doing, what I could do to get it back into form. When it was on, it was on, and I didn't have to really think about it,” Kitayama said. “Now it seems like when it gets off it's not as far off, and I'm starting to understand my swing a little more.”
