Reverend Thomas Kilgore Jr. ’35 was an influential theologian and civil rights activist on both coasts, serving as pastor of New York City’s Friendship Baptist Church and Los Angeles’s Second Baptist Church, the oldest Black Baptist Church in the city. He was an organizer of the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, during which fellow Morehouse alumnus Martin Luther King Jr. gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Kilgore managed the New York City office of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the organization led by Dr. King, and helped organize what would become the Los Angeles chapter of the organization.
Kilgore served as the first Black president of the American Baptist Convention and later served as president of the two million-member Progressive National Baptist Convention. He also served as founding president of the Heart of Harlem Neighborhood Church Association, which fought segregation in New York City.

Study Rooms. We are very proud to have four study rooms available for individual or group use. Each room is equipped with table, chairs and a dry erase board, as well as electrical outlets for laptops.
The Kilgore College Invitational Jazz Festival Concert featuring area high school band students performing with the KC Jazz Band is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27. The free concert will be held in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus. Participation in the jazz festival is open to any area high school band students.

Dr. Randolph C. Watson was the fourth President of Kilgore College. A native of East Texas, he graduated from Henderson High School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Christian University. That institution also awarded him an honorary doctor of laws degree in 1966.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Rangerette Revels set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6; 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7; and 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13. The show, "On Our Way Up," will include a wide variety of dance genres, including the Rangerettes' signature "high kick" production for the finale.
