19 Most Romantic Resorts in the USA cabin with a fireplace and four poster bed

For our 20th anniversary, I had big dreams of a romantic getaway to Greece , or a couples trip to Bora Bora, returning to our honeymoon destination. If you are looking for an anniversary trip, romantic getaway, couples trip, or honeymoon ideas a little closer to home, start with our picks for the most romantic resorts in the USA.

I’ve asked friends, travel advisors, and trusted frequent travelers for their recommendations on the best romantic getaways in the U.S. for a special milestone anniversary trip. These are our top picks:

1. Little Palm Island, Florida

When I stumbled on the website for Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys, I thought I hit the jackpot with everything that I wanted for our anniversary trip. A private island, our own tropical villa, and the most romantic atmosphere I can imagine within the continental United States. And then I looked at the price and realized I actually needed to hit the jackpot, or the lottery, to make even a splurge trip here a reality.

But if you are ready to spend, it is no surprise that Little Palm Island was included in the top resorts in the United States (and the World) by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

2. Amangiri, Canyon Point, Utah

Ever since spying the Amangiri hotel in a food magazine, my husband has been angling for a romantic getaway to this remote portion of Utah’s red rock country. Covering 600 acres of the vast and majestic Colorado Plateau, the Amangiri offers a desert landscape of canyons, mesas, ridges, and gorges.

Guests can choose between the modernist suites of Amangiri and the tented pavilions of Camp Sarika. To gain an appreciation of the landscape, you can tour slot canyons with Navajo guides, or observe powerful storytelling sessions and ritual dances by the fire in Monument Valley Tribal Park. Adventurers can also go canyoning, climbing, hiking, horseback riding, or enjoy water sports on Lake Powell. This is the perfect choice for those that enjoy spending time in nature and are active adventurers.

3. Bungalows Key Largo, Florida

Waterfront bungalows at Bungalows key Large

If you are craving a tropical setting but $2000+ a night is a little rich for your budget, head to Key Largo. Bungalows Key Largo is one of the few adults-only resorts in the United States. While it still costs a pretty penny, at least their price is all-inclusive.

Picture a waterfront bungalow with a private veranda featuring a large outdoor soaking tub as your romantic getaway retreat. If that doesn’t relax you, the Zen Garden Spa certainly should. If you want to book a bungalow for Valentine’s Day, guests can now add on a  Valentine’s Day Sunset Dinner Cruise on a luxury catamaran with live acoustic music and an elegant culinary experience.

4. Inn at Perry Cabin, St. Michael’s, Maryland

My friend Brianna recommends the Inn at Perry Cabin , on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. This Belmond property offers understated luxury in one of the most beautiful areas of the east coast. The hotel’s interiors reflect the area’s maritime history, with plenty of cozy nooks and crannies to snuggle with your significant other.

The outdoor views are best enjoyed in one of the resort’s many Adirondack chairs with a glass of wine in hand, a perfect spot for enjoying the sunset. This resort is perfect for foodie couples who enjoy waterfront activities like yoga, kayaking, and sailing lessons.

5. Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California

The Jade Pool overlooking ocean at the Post Ranch Inn

My friend and luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle recommends the Post Ranch Inn for an adults-only romantic getaway near San Francisco. Located on a clifftop overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the romantic landscape of Big Sur, the Post Ranch Inn is ideal for romance, relaxation, and rejuvenation.

With just 40 rooms and homes, the resort offers rustic elegance and privacy. Wellness and relaxation activities include morning yoga, guided nature hikes, forest, and sound journey meditation, as well as garden tours and art walks. Guests can also relax and enjoy the view at the infinity pool or use the resort’s telescope to star gaze at night.

6. Blackberry Farm, Walland, Tennessee

Located on a pastoral farm near the Great Smoky Mountains, this Relais & Châteaux resort offers bucket-list-worthy luxury. This intimate resort has something to offer everyone — from archery to carriage rides to culinary classes to water sports.

Blackberry Farm’s “foothill cuisine” draws foodies worldwide to enjoy its three inventive restaurants, which bring together a collection of artisans – chef, master gardener, baker, cheesemaker, forager, butcher, and sommelier.

7. White Barn Inn, Kennebunk, Maine

Luxury travel advisor and friend Barbara Weindling recommends the White Barn Inn for those looking for a classic New England romantic getaway. This Auberge Resorts Collection hotel offers coastal luxury and award-winning dining in one of the most charming towns on the Maine coast .

While you are there, you can enjoy culinary experiences such as chocolate making, cocktail creations, and Sunday tea. Outdoors, guests can enjoy a private cycling tour or sailing along the coast. Or cozy up inside in the Couple’s Spa Suite for an afternoon of romance and pampering.

8. The Point, Saranac Lake, New York

Also recommended by my friend Barbara, The Point is the only Forbes Five-Star property in the Adirondacks . This Relais & Châteaux hotel offers only eleven rooms for an intimate experience.

Built by William Avery Rockefeller II and crafted of native timber and stone, today it is the only Adirondack Great Camp from the Gilded Age open to the public. Enjoy boating, fishing, tennis, waterskiing, croquet, badminton, swimming, wake surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and hiking in the warmer months, or cuddle up with hot toddies by a roaring fire or champagne from the fully stocked ice bar on the lake after a day ice skating, curling and ice fishing in the winter.

9. Magee Homestead at Brush Creek Ranch, Saratoga, Wyoming

Another pick for outdoor adventurers, Kristi also recommends the adults-only Magee Homestead at Brush Creek Ranch. A member of Relais & Châteaux and recipient of the Forbes Travel Guide Five Star rating, Magee Homestead is an all-inclusive ranch that is part of the Brush Creek Ranch Collection.

Magee Homestead offers luxury accommodations in private cabins that once housed cow camp hands. You can enjoy gourmet culinary experiences, relaxing spa treatments, or outdoor adventures and exploration in Medicine Bow National Forest.

10. The Chanler, Newport, Rhode Island

The Chanler at Cliff Walk exterior with flowering bushes out front

Housed in a mansion on Newport’s famed Cliff Walk,  The Chanler  offers twenty distinctive Newport hotel rooms, which are elegantly decorated in various period styles. The Chanler has been on our wishlist for a romantic getaway in Newport since we first moved here and sampled the chef’s tasting menu at the hotel’s gourmet restaurant.

This Forbes Four-Star Hotel offers a luxury experience reminiscent of the Gilded Age. Stroll through the manicured gardens while you take in breathtaking ocean vistas, walk along the three-mile Cliff Walk, enjoy a gourmet meal, and sip an after-dinner drink at the fire pit and star gaze.

11. Inn at Newport Ranch, Fort Bragg, California

View of rocky coastline from an adirondack chair at the Inn at Newport Ranch

Located just 30 minutes from Mendocino on the Northern California Coast, the Inn at Newport Ranch is a local secret that luxury travel advisor Kristi Marcelle first clued me into and is perfect for a California romantic getaway .

The ranch encompasses seven microclimates on 2,000 acres set along one-and-one-half miles of rugged coastline, offering plenty of space to spread out and explore. Catering to only 26 guests in total, this intimate resort offers big views, along with 20 miles of trails for mountain biking or off-roading. Dining is another highlight, and right now meals can even be delivered to your patio for more privacy.

12. White Elephant, Nantucket, Massachusetts

White Elephant hotel from the water with boats in the harbor

The iconic White Elephant has been named among the finest luxury hotels on Nantucket Island for decades and is a popular romantic getaway destination for those seeking New England island charm. This waterfront resort offers spacious suites with private balconies overlooking the harbor, as well as private garden cottages.

From the resort, it is easy to enjoy the beach, shop in Nantucket Town, or take in the views at the Brant Point Lighthouse. Guests can also relax by the outdoor heated pool, hop on a bike and explore the area, sip cocktails on the Harborside Lawn, or rejuvenate in the world-class spa.

13. San Ysidro Ranch, Santa Barbara, California

Wedding lawn with flowers and green arches with mountains in the background at San Ysidro Ranch

Recommended by Lynn Juliano, a travel advisor with Travel Xperts , San Ysidro Ranch is the secret hideaway embodying the spirit of Old California. Everyone from Audrey Hepburn, Winston Churchill, JFK and Jackie, Sir Laurence Olivier, and Vivian Leigh have taken up residence here. With 500 acres and 17 miles of hiking trails nestled between the mountains and ocean, San Ysidro Ranch is a perfect romantic escape.

The resort offers intimate cottages scattered around lush gardens, each individually decorated with antiques. Many offer large private decks, indoor/outdoor rain showers, sunken hot tubs, heated floors, and private gardens.

14. The Cloister at Sea Island, Georgia

Living room of the Sea Island suite at The Cloister

We have been debating an anniversary trip to The Cloister at Sea Island for some time. I love the Golden Isles of Georgia and since Sea Island is restricted to owners and guests only, it offers both luxury and more intimacy. The Cloister offers three charming settings of accommodations, featuring elegant and unique Spanish Mediterranean décor.

Guests can enjoy five miles of private beach, the adults-only swimming pool, a round of golf, or a couples massage at the Forbes Five-Star Spa Sea Island. For a romantic evening, try horseback riding on the beach followed by dinner and a rose petal turn-down service.

15. Miraval Arizona, Tucson, Arizona

Couples seeking a wellness retreat will bask in the desert sun at the Miraval Arizona in Tucson. The resort offers all-inclusive packages with transformational wellnesses experiences, outdoor adventures, culinary delights, and spa services.

This Sonoran Desert sanctuary provides a wide range of comfortable casita-inspired accommodations for reflection and mindfulness, including rooms, suites, and villas.

16. Twin Farms, Barnard, Vermont

Twin Farms boathouse and lodge in the evening with lights reflecting on the water

Twin Farms is an all-inclusive resort located on 300 bucolic acres in Vermont , offering up seclusion and privacy. The resort welcomes only adults and teens, with 10 romantically designed cottages and a selection of rooms in the lodge, farmhouse, and main house.

A vast selection of indoor and outdoor activities that focus on well-being are available to guests, including biking, canoeing, fly fishing, hiking, swimming, tennis, and more. Custom-designed meals, wine pairings, and spirits are included in the rate and can be enjoyed in the dining areas or in the privacy of your accommodations.

17. Auberge de Soleil, Rutherford, California

The “Inn of the Sun” is nestled within a terraced, sun-kissed hillside amid 33 acres of heritage olive and oak trees, in Napa wine country. The hotel’s 50 contemporary guestrooms and suites effortlessly blend relaxed sophistication with understated elegance, resulting in a romantic getaway destination.

Auberge du Soleil is the dream of French restaurateur, Claude Rouas, and The Restaurant has maintained its legacy as a “must-experience” culinary destination for more than 40 years. Couples can enjoy a private wine tasting, an art walk in the sculpture garden, a picnic in the park, a scenic hike, or a bike ride on the Napa Valley Vine Trail.

18. Dunton Hot Springs, Dolores, Colorado

Dunton Hot Springs is not your typical romantic retreat. This perfectly restored ghost town features exquisitely-furnished log cabins and a saloon serving gourmet food.

Nestled in an alpine valley deep in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies , guests can enjoy challenging hiking trails followed by pampering massages. Of course, all must use one of the five ways to “take the waters” — including inside the restored 19th-century Bathhouse, under the stars at the source, in the pool outside the Bathhouse, in the pool behind the Dunton Store cabin, and inside Well House cabin.

19. The Inn at Little Washington, Washington, Virginia

This Relais and Chateaux, Forbes Double 5 star, and Double AAA 5 Diamond property is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains not far outside of Washington D.C. The Inn at Little Washington , features eighteen bedrooms and suites, created by London stage and set designer Joyce Evans.

These accommodations range from well-appointed rooms to luxurious, two-story suites, many with balconies and garden views. The Inn’s dining rooms are also pure fantasy, with rose-colored, silk lampshades that float above each table, highlighting the inspired American cuisine of Patrick O’Connell.

The best romantic getaways in the U.S. for couples

Relax with your love on a romantic getaway in the U.S., from desert escapes to beach retreats

Clara Hogan

Couples who travel together are happier together. That claim may be an oversimplification, but it's safe to say that exploring the world, getting out of the daily routines and trying new things together are all effective at spurring romance and connection.

From your first romantic weekend trip away to your honeymoon or  babymoon  and the many anniversary vacations to come, taking trips as a couple is a surefire way to  keep the spark alive and form a deeper bond. And while a European voyage to Paris or Rome tops many people's bucket lists, you don't have to travel far to find romance.  Across the U.S., charming destinations await that will sweep your one and only off their feet.

Head to  California  to enjoy some of the country's best food and wine amid coastal scenery, embrace nature in the Colorado mountains or Arizona desert, or visit a charming East Coast town like Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, where you can stroll the historic streets and stay in a cozy inn. Whatever you choose, our list of the most romantic getaways in the USA boasts stunning landscapes, plenty of ways to be pampered, and some of the most romantic hotels in America .

Best romantic getaways in the U.S.

Sonoma County, CA

1.  Sonoma County, CA

It’s easy to swoon over Sonoma . While wine tasting is the main attraction, there's so much more to this sprawling California county. Get pampered at world-class spas (head to  Dawn Ranch  for an oasis set among the redwoods); dine your heart out at restaurants rooted in seasonal California fare (snag a seat at Healdbsurg's buzziest new opening,  Goodnight’s Prime Steak + Spirits ); or head to the coast to take in stunning ocean views at boutique hotels like  Nick's Cove  or  Timber Cove (grab a bite at their waterfront restaurants or stay the night).

Scottsdale, AZ

2.  Scottsdale, AZ

Set amid the stunning Sonoran desert, the backdrop to a vacation in Scottsdale  easily checks the romantic box. This Arizona town has long been a destination for those looking to be pampered and relax—and in recent years, has experienced a renewed sense of interest from travelers thanks to buzzy restaurants (check out FnB Restaurant and Fat Ox ), a myriad of wellness experiences, and even an up-and-coming wine scene (don't skip  Aridus Winery 's tasting room in Old Town). Couples looking for an urban retreat will enjoy a stay at the midcentury marvel that is the  Hotel Valley Ho , and for those looking to escape reality in a more remote setting, don't miss the luxurious  Sanctuary Camelback Mountain (Jay Z and Beyoncé honeymooned here, if that tells you anything.)

Kauai, HI

3.  Kauai, HI

If your version of paradise includes rugged cliffs and sunny sand, emerald hills and epic hikes, fire up your laptop and book a trip to  Kauai . The 'Garden Isle' is a verdant wonderland where you can take a helicopter ride past the Jurassic Park waterfall, kayak Hawaii's only navigable river or walk the wild Na Pali Coast—though no one will blame you for kicking back with a cocktail on the beach. For an indulgent stay, book a room at the brand-new sustainable luxury resort,  1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.

Savannah, GA

4.  Savannah, GA

Savannah  wears its charm in the open: classic homes, historic squares and impossibly photogenic moss-covered trees. But there's more to this Southern belle than gawking at her sights. Go for a stroll on Tybee Island , then dig into expertly crafted Cajun and low-country cooking at Alligator Soul (where, yes, there's gator on the menu). Finish things off at Lulu's Chocolate Bar and share a slice of the rum-brushed strawberry suspension cake.

San Juan Islands, WA

5.  San Juan Islands, WA

This Puget Sound escape—where the most populated town is just one square mile—is about escaping it all. Life on the San Juan Islands  means lighthouse strolls, coastal kayaking, visits to alpaca or lavender farms, and fresh seafood. Book a summer whale watch session and spot one of three local orca pods before bed at the Bird Rock Hotel , where loaner bikes let you explore at the right pace.

The Berkshires, MA

6.  The Berkshires, MA

The Berkshires aren't just one town but a collection of several that are quaint and charming in their way. Start with Lenox, a scenic and lush town once the home of writer Edith Wharton, and Stockbridge, a town bursting with Norman Rockwell-inspired streets. There’s also North Adams, replete with picturesque churches, and Williamstown, surrounded by mountains and farmland. Stroll together hand-in-hand along the historic downtown streets, hit a hiking trail, and relax together in a B&B: there's romance here no matter where your days (and nights) take you.

Sun Valley, ID

7.  Sun Valley, ID

No matter the time of year, the Sun Valley , Idaho region, is a perfect choice for a little romance. In the winter, ski during the day and get cozy at night; in the spring and summer, take in wildflower and waterful hikes; and when autumn rolls in, take in some of the most stunning foliage views in the country. Stay at the historic Sun Valley Resort  or the neighboring town, Ketchum, at the LimeLight Ketchum, which features a year-round heated pool and mountain views that set the mood.

New Paltz, NY

8.  New Paltz, NY

Mohonk Mountain House  in New Paltz, NY, is a gorgeous retreat two hours from NYC that dates back to 1869. Since then, Mohonk has grown enormously, evident in the varying styles of the main building as well as through the scattered wooden “summer houses” that dot the landscape. Head here for romantic Victorian rooms with wood-burning fireplaces, outstanding views from surrounding trails, live music, and events. The resort hosts occasional "Romantic Couples' Weekends" with love-themed activities for you and your beau.

New Orleans

9.  New Orleans

There's something magical about New Orleans —the cobblestone streets of the French Quarter, the 100+-year-old candlelit restaurants, the live music wafting through the air. Look past the rowdiness of Bourbon Street, and you'll find a city ripe for romance: stroll past historic mansions in the Garden District, get a cocktail at the Carousel Bar , and unwind at a luxurious hotel like the Eliza Jane .

Aspen, CO

10.  Aspen, CO

There’s no wrong time to book a trip to Aspen , a Rocky Mountain town where romantic enticements beckon all year long. From luxury hotels and sophisticated dining to hot air ballooning and legendary slopes, there’s a reason Aspen has a reputation for over-the-top thrills. Whether you’re here to ski with your partner, take on some rapids, or settle into a couple’s massage at the extravagant St. Regis (don’t miss the hotel's nightly champagne sabering, either), you’ll leave Aspen more in love than ever.

Glacier National Park, MT

11.  Glacier National Park, MT

With mountain lakes surrounded by rocky peaks, 600ft waterfalls and glaciers (expected to melt in the next 30 years), Glacier National Park deserves a place on your to-do list. Hike, horseback ride, hop a boat, spot a grizzly bear or mountain goat, and then cozy up over a fire or hearty meal. Given the range of accommodations offered—from lodges to campsites to backcountry chalets well worth the walk—this is the ideal destination to combine adventure and affection.

New York, NY

12.  New York, NY

With its relentless bustle, New York romance is about connecting with your partner amid the chaos. Go classic: Rent a rowboat in Central Park and get gussied up for dinner at La Grenouille , serving time-honored French delicacies in a flower-arrangement-filled space. Or throw tradition to the wind: Get into frisky business at the Museum of Sex or take the tram to Roosevelt Island for lofty, 360-degree city views.

Nantucket, MA

13.  Nantucket, MA

Nantucket is the perfect setting for a romance novel—or real-life romance. With white-sand beaches, cobblestone streets and New England charm everywhere you look, this tiny island (which is only 14 miles in length) is the perfect place to get away if you're looking for seaside splendor. Splurge on luxury accommodations (there are plenty to choose from, but we recommend the Wauwinet ), have a picnic on the beach or slide into a booth at a historic restaurant, or bike around the island. The high season is Memorial Day through Labor Day, but the shoulder months can be just as lovely without the crowds.

Big Sur, CA

14.  Big Sur, CA

With rolling redwood forests and cliffs jutting over turquoise water, Big Sur  is idyllic in the extreme. Splurge at the Post Ranch Inn , where your luxury bungalow is TV- and telephone-free, or snuggle up inside a yurt at Treebones . Come during the summer when you can kayak with sea otters, take a moonlit tour of the Point Sur lighthouse or stay up late for a dip in the Esalen Hot Springs .

Harpers Ferry, WV

15.  Harpers Ferry, WV

Although Harpers Ferry played a role in igniting the Civil War, today's vibe is far more romantic than revolutionary. The core of Harpers Ferry—which sits at the edge of the Shenandoah River, the Potomac River, and the Blue Ridge Mountains—is a national historic park with forts, museums, cobbled streets, and charm aplenty. You’ll also find 22 miles of hiking trails outside the city center, and in the warmer months, the town is an ideal launch point for kayaking, whitewater rafting, and tubing. It won't take long to understand why locals call West Virginia 'almost heaven.'

Martha’s Vineyard, MA

16.  Martha’s Vineyard, MA

The Obamas' go-to summer getaway, Martha's Vineyard has always charmed visitors with its windswept beaches and sweet towns. Rent a home or base yourself at Hob Knob in Edgartown, the island’s picture-perfect, oldest settlement with narrow streets, red-brick pavements and white clapboard homes. Hit the beach, browse local shops, marvel over the sunset and stuff yourself with fresh seafood—it’s not a Vineyard visit without lobster from Larsen’s Fish Market .

Mackinac Island, MI

17.  Mackinac Island, MI

Nothing beats Michigan in the summer—the crystal blue water, perfect weather, and friendly people. One of the most quaint spots in the state is  Mackinac Island , situated on Lake Huron between Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. With stunning national parks, car-free streets, charming B&Bs, and plenty of outdoor activities, this is a place where you can lazily enjoy the island life or be active from sunrise to sunset.

Charleston, SC

18.  Charleston, SC

This picturesque Southern city doesn’t just feel like a romantic movie set; Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook was actually filmed around Charleston . Turn it into the background of your love story as you roam the historic district, explore the vibrant dining scene and wander through the gardens at Boone Hall .

Block Island, RI

19.  Block Island, RI

Dubbed 'Island of the Little God' by the Narragansett tribe, this petite isle 12 miles off the coast of Rhode Island is a world apart from the mainland. Rent a bike or moped, grab a sandwich from Three Sisters and start discovering your favorite beach or scenic trail.

Sedona, AZ

20.  Sedona, AZ

Free your spiritual side in Sedona , a desert enclave where natural vortexes emit mystical energy. Even if communing with the Earth isn't your thing, visiting for the spectacular slot-canyon hiking and world-class accommodations is worth it. Spoil yourself in a L'Auberge de Sedona cottage complete with an outdoor shower or stay at Enchantment Resort and book a couple’s treatment at the acclaimed Mii Amo spa .

San Diego, CA

21.  San Diego, CA

With 322 days of annual sunshine, San Diego begs you to get outside and explore. Hit the waves at Pacific Beach, ride bikes along the boardwalk, charter a boat or grab a patch of sand and snuggle up with your partner. The zoo is rightfully renowned and, when you've worked up an appetite , head to the Marine Room for dinner at high tide when the Pacific crashes against the windows.

Amelia Island, FL

22.  Amelia Island, FL

Barely inside the Florida border, this Atlantic Coast barrier island hits the spot for a luxury weekend or low-key retreat. Book a room at a historic B&B or bed down overlooking the beach at the Ritz-Carlton . Then, spend your days soaking up the sun, riding horses along the shoreline or on the water on a fishing charter or sightseeing tour. Keep the camera ready for sea turtles, manatees and dolphins.

9 Anniversary Trip Ideas to Celebrate Any Milestone

Check out the top spots for anniversary vacations, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Matteo Colombo/Getty Images

Whether it's your  first anniversary  or your 50th, you may be thinking about hitting the road (or the skies!) for an epic anniversary trip to celebrate your nuptials. Not only do you deserve this romantic getaway, but it may be a first for you, at least in the last few years since the onset of the pandemic.

It’s true that, with mass vaccinations underway, and infection rates finally turning towards a decline, per the  Center for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC), there’s no time like the present to research anniversary trip ideas and plan a special vacation. In fact, travel experts are already seeing major spikes in travel and tourism, and the numbers are projected to continue climbing through 2022. The number of visitors through the summer, which is usually the low season in Los Cabos, Mexico where Bonnie Chase, wedding planner and owner of  Bliss Events , is based, were staggering. “Many people stayed home for a year or longer because of the pandemic, and now that travel advisories are lifted, people are feeling safer traveling, everyone is ready to jet off into the sunset,” she says. “Also, many people made more and spent less money during the first year of the pandemic that they had prior to that, and are now in a more financially comfortable financial position to travel, so we’re also seeing a trend of elevated event budgets.”

The good news: If you’re looking to travel in 2022 , your chances of an unforgettable trip are pretty high. So many destinations are back up and running and are eager to satisfy travelers coming through—especially those looking to celebrate something special, like an anniversary. If you’re in the midst of planning a romantic vacation with your significant other, here are some of the top anniversary trip ideas and destinations to hit in 2022.

Napa, California

If you and your spouse appreciate a good glass of cabernet, chances are, California wine country has been on your list of places to visit for some time. Not only does it offer up some of nation's, and maybe even the world’s, best wineries (next to Sonoma), but it also provides picturesque views of the rolling countryside, not to mention access to some outstanding restaurants where you can sip on this local wine. If nothing else, it’s the perfect place to cheers to another year or marriage, especially if you stay at one of the romantic resorts like T he Meritage Resort & Spa . Just five miles outside of downtown Napa (biking there is even a possibility!), this luxury resort has everything you need to unwind, relax and toast to your marriage, including their award-winning, underground spa (couples' massage anyone?), on-site wine tasting and classes, candlelight yoga offerings and Tuscan-inspired restaurant. Napa is also just an hour drive from San Francisco, so you can hit both destinations with one romantic weekend road trip.

The Bahamas

This tropical island just off the coast of Florida is a vacation hotspot for obvious reasons: crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, eclectic cuisine, vibrant nightlife, aquatic sites and swanky resorts. It’s also not too far travel-wise from most areas of the U.S., but offers a true vacation feel, especially if you’re looking for a beach destination. For an unforgettable anniversary getaway, stay at  The Cove at Atlantis Paradise Island , which is nestled right between two private white sand beachfronts. Each luxury suite features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, balconies to step out and soak up the view and impeccable butler service and the facilities include an adults-only Cove Pool with 20 private beach cabanas, the Mandara Spa, the Caribbean's only outdoor gaming, exceptional cuisine at Fish by the world-renowned and Michelin star Chef José Andrés (foodies will love this restaurant!), shopping and more.

New York City

As the saying goes, “New York City is always a good idea,” and this is definitely true when it comes to celebrating your anniversary. One thing is for sure: There is no shortage of things to do and fun to be had in the Big Apple. On the list of romantic activities, you can catch a Broadway show, visit one of the city’s Michelin-star restaurants, check out one of the cool art galleries, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, take a day trip to the Long Island wineries, shop around SoHo and even kiss atop the Empire State Building. And when it comes to places to stay, the options are really endless. A central location and a romantic ambiance is a must for an anniversary trip. Consider the  Loews Regency New York Hotel , situated right on New York’s Park Avenue and within walking distance to Central Park. With a fun and vibrant Art Deco feel, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city in most rooms and book yourselves a treatment at Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa located right below.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

With low cases of COVID, Cabo San Lucas is a hot destination for all sorts of travel in 2022. It’s located on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula and is beloved for its crystal clear waters and white, sandy beaches. One of the reasons Chase recommends it to clients looking for a romantic getaway in the midst of the pandemic is because it is located close to many places in the world, especially the U.S., and hotels are able to operate at full capacity again. On the list of romantic, splurge-worthy resorts,  Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal  sits at the top. It’s situated on a 24-acre site at the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and offers more than just gorgeous beaches and an outdoor infinity pool. They have specific offerings for couples to enhance the romance, including their Lovers Soak Tub Experience, which involves sipping champagne in the property’s signature soaking tub while enjoying sweets from the resort’s on-site pastry chef, a private cliffside dinner at El Farallon by the Sea while overlooking crashing waves down below and their Sun-Kissed Love package, which includes roundtrip air transfers, daily breakfast, dinner for two at their Don Manuel restaurant, a rose petal turndown and 20 percent off spa treatments.

Another favorite anniversary trip idea as of late and arguably one of the most romantic places on the planet, is the Maldives. If this island off the coast of Thailand has been on your fairytale bucket list, there's no time like the present to take a visit. This summer, the tropical paradise welcomed fully vaccinated international guests back after months of record-low infection rates. While rates jumped back up this fall, as it did nearly everywhere else in the world, it’s finally on a steady decline and will hopefully stay that way. In other words, now is the time to travel to Thailand if it’s been on your wishlist and to enjoy everything this beautiful destination has to offer: pristine beaches, meaningful cultural immersions, southern Thai culinary experiences and exceptional island lifestyle to name a few. Stay at the luxury hotel,  The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui  which sits on a prowling 58 acres of land on the north-eastern part of the island that stretches from beach to hilltop. With two breathtaking beaches, 11 restaurants with gorgeous vista views, the only ocean swimming pool in Thailand, outdoor adventures including hiking trails, kayaking, canoe rentals, a huge Spa Village Koh Samui with age-old spa therapies (and a hot tub), the largest one-of-a-kind swim reef and two floodlit tennis courts, there’s much to be enjoyed in this epic destination.

Little Palm Island, Florida one year anniversary trip idea

You don't need to book an international trip to indulge at a private island resort. The Florida Keys offers the sole spot in the country— Little Palm Island —and it's only accessible by seaplane or boat. Fly into Miami or Fort Lauderdale and make the scenic drive down the Overseas Highway before hopping on the motor yacht over to Little Torch Key, where this top-rated adults-only paradise will have you swooning at first sight.

Things to Do: The beauty of a private island is that you can do as much or little as you like. Dive or snorkel at nearby Looe Key Reef—rated one of the best spots in the country, since it's part of the world's third-largest barrier reef—or set off on a sunset sail with Champagne. What could be a more picture-perfect way to toast to your first wedding anniversary?

Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs, California one year anniversary travel guide

Landing in Palm Springs International Airport with its retro vibe will quickly get you on vacation mode. A quick drive to downtown and you're in the mecca of mid-century modern architecture (it's worth booking a tour to hear the history). The towering palm trees and surrounding peaks make Palm Springs one of the most Instagrammable spots in the country, but if you'd prefer a digital detox while celebrating your anniversary, there are plenty of places here with a focus on wellness—plus nearby, off-grid locales like Joshua Tree that are great for stargazing.

Things to Do: Couples will find tons of activities like tennis, golf, pétanque and even English croquet throughout Palm Springs. Of course relaxing poolside after a treatment at the spa is one of the more popular ways to pass the day in the desert. If you want to get out and explore, Coachella Valley is carved with hikes for all levels, plus fantastic trails for horseback riding.

Places to Stay: Parker Palm Springs is one of the top-of-the-line properties in the heart of Palm Springs, with everything from a fire circle to hammocks hanging in the trees along the scenic paths winding through the gardens. The nearby desert oasis of Sensei Porcupine Creek sprawls across 230 acres and offers top-notch resort amenities like golf, tennis and an expansive spa menu.

Amangiri, Utah

Amangiri, Utah one year anniversary travel guide

Utah may not be high on your list of places to visit in the US (although it's a dream for adventurous couples!), but Amangiri is a destination of its own. A four-hour drive from Las Vegas , the five-star spot makes desert living look (and feel) chic. Modernist suites and tented pavilions blend into the backdrop of the "original" Wild West's red rock, lunar-like landscape. Think of this as a very design-savvy version of a safari, with sky terraces and fire pits ready for an evening of stargazing.

Things to Do: Sitting on thousands of square miles at the gateway to national parks like the Grand Canyon and Zion, couples can set off on guided trail hikes or via ferratas up peaks to panoramic viewpoints. Another unique way to explore the landscape: horseback riding along the ridges and canyons.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans, Louisiana one year anniversary trip

If you're looking for a city that is festive year-round, the Big Easy is your place. Even outside of major events like Mardi Gras and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival , you'll still be serenaded by street performers and big brass bands in the French Quarter, where legendary music clubs like The Spotted Cat are open all week long. A cocktail capital in its own right (this is where the Sazerac and Vieux Carré were born), couples can linger in prohibition era-inspired bars like The Roosevelt before indulging in some of the best cuisine in the South at restaurants like Compère Lapin and Zasu .

Things to Do: Two of the main draws to New Orleans are music and food, so eat your way around the city's local specialties like po'boys, muffuletta sandwiches, beignets and bananas foster. Catch a jazz show at Preservation Hall or somewhere more low-key like the patio of Maple Leaf Bar .

Places to Stay: In the French Quarter, Hotel Monteleone is brimming with Old World charm — plus it's home to one of the most iconic bars in the country, The Carousel Bar (it even rotates!). For something on the boutique side, book a room at Ace Hotel New Orleans , which features a packed calendar of programming that includes art exhibitions, jazz brunches and DJ sessions.

An anniversary is a fantastic excuse to set off on a trip abroad — especially when it's your first year together as a married couple. Whether you want a quick jaunt to Europe or plan to spend more time exploring somewhere exotic, these locales are sure to up the romance factor.

Paris, France

Paris, France one year anniversary trip abroad

Paris is in the spotlight this year as host of the summer Olympics, but even if your anniversary doesn't fall around this time, there's no bad moment to visit the City of Light. In spring, tulips are blooming in the gardens and the city is reawakening, while in summer, sidewalks transform into terraces where you can sip wine until sunset — which isn't until 9 or 10 p.m. — before heading to a tapas bar or tasting-menu restaurant.

Things to Do: Museum hop around landmarks like the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay ; pop a bottle of Champagne while cruising along the Seine ; snap selfies up in the Eiffel Tower ; or treat yourself to a Michelin meal at one of the gastronomic hotspots like Plénitude .

Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech, Morocco one year anniversary trip abroad travel guide

The former imperial city is a feast for the senses with its palaces, mosques and markets lining the maze-like alleys of the medina. For couples, there are plenty of ways to soak up the vibrant city's romance factor, whether it's with a traditional cooking class perfecting tagine, an afternoon at the hammam or a hot air balloon ride over the nearby Agafay desert, where you can glamp in a tented camp and camel ride to a sunset dinner .

Things to Do: Stroll through the souk with a local chef to source ingredients for a cooking class in a traditional Moroccan home; relax with a spa day at La Mamounia ; take a guided shopping tour of the souk; or enjoy a lavish Sunday brunch at Selman Marrakech , where the hotel's Arabian thoroughbred horses (housed in onsite Jacques Garcia-designed stables) put on an equestrian show.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia one year anniversary trip

Unwind and reset with your new partner on the "Island of the Gods." With its volcanic, black-sand beaches, rugged coastline overlooking world-renowned surf breaks, lush temple-filled jungles and laid-back beach town vibes, there's a reason why Bali tops the list of romantic locales in Asia. Plus, luxurious options for hotels and villas are much more affordable here than other parts of the world, so you can get all the perks of a five-star spot at a fraction of the price.

Things to Do: Wellness is a huge focus on the island, so if you're looking to relax with your partner and try something new like vibrational sound therapy or chakra balancing, stay somewhere like Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve , whose daily program of activities is like a built-in retreat (plus, the villas with their private plunge pools and views of the rice paddies, rainforest or river are some of the most spectacular on the island). Skirt the coast on a temple-hopping tour or spend a day exploring waterfalls and rice paddies on a private tour .

Places to Stay: In addition to Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve , you'll find luxe lodgings at Bulgari Resort Bali , Capella Ubud , Hoshinoya Bali , Potato Head Suites , Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay and Raffles Bali Hotel .

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey one year anniversary trip guide

Over the past few years, Istanbul has been undergoing a renaissance with buzzy new boutique hotels, which include the addition of a Soho House in a historic palazzo. The city beautifully blends its historic neighborhoods and landmarks with more modern arrivals, so while you'll feel like you're stepping back in time to the Roman-era chariot races (you'll still see Egyptian obelisks), hip rooftop bars and sleek waterfront lounges give Istanbul an air akin to major metropolises like London and New York.

Things to Do: Admire the architecture of landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia on a guided tour of the Old City; get a feast for the senses strolling through the Spice Market or haggling for rugs and lanterns at the Grand Bazaar ; cruise the Bosphorus by luxury yacht ; or visit a historic hammam like Kiliç Ali Pasa .

Places to Stay: Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus unfolds along the river in a restored, 19th-century Ottoman palace and features a traditional Turkish bath and the best Sunday brunch in the city.

You splurged on an over-the-top wedding and indulged in a dream honeymoon. Your first anniversary should be just as special, but that doesn't mean you need to dip into your savings for a trip to remember. From swoon-worthy beaches and rainforest treks to wine tastings and castle stays, your friends won't believe that you actually saved money on one of thes budget-friendly trips .

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico one year anniversary budget friendly trip

A no-passport-required trip, Puerto Rico is one of the most underrated spots in the country (it's a territory, technically, but it still counts!). Offering plenty of Old World charm, buzzy cocktail bars, gorgeous boutique hotels and beaches and rainforest as impressive as other parts of the Caribbean, this island escape is one that offers couples romance at every turn — but at a price point not designed for tourists.

Things to Do: After sipping craft cocktails at La Factoría and hiking through the El Yunque rainforest, ferry over to the island of Vieques, where wild horses roam free and you can kayak through the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world.

Places to Stay: Stay oceanfront at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve , which dates back to the 1950s and sits on 50 acres of the Rockefeller Estate (where the original plan was that no building would be taller than a palm tree!) or the sunflower-yellow, 17th-century Hotel El Convento , a former convent and landmark in Old San Juan.

Grenada budget one year anniversary trip

The "Spice Island" in the West Indies doesn't get the same love as its neighbors, which works in travelers' favor, since you can find untouched beaches, more than a dozen waterfalls, reef and wreck dives, and the world's first underwater sculpture park all a short flight away from hubs like New York and Miami.

Things to Do: Swim in waterfalls and tour a chocolate factory on a half-day tour ; sample the local cuisine and spices on a culinary excursion ; or snorkel around some of the hundred sculptures in the underwater park in Moliniere Bay.

Places to Stay: Tucked between jade-colored water and rainforests, Mount Cinnamon's hillside villas and suites show off some of the best views of the island — and you can snorkel or dive right from the shore. An upscale spot on Grand Anse Beach, Silversands Resort offers a mix of super modern suites and contemporary beachfront or oceanview villas with plunge pools.

Finger Lakes, New York

Finger Lakes, New York budget one year anniversary trip idea

Set off on a trip through wine country in a region that's slowly gaining popularity but still far from the tourist-filled buses of Napa. An easy drive from New York City or another metropolis in the northeast, you'll have your pick of more than 140 wineries — plus fantastic farm-to-table restaurants and microbreweries. Accommodation options are no less charming, from lodges and B&Bs to Victorian-style castles.

Things to Do: The many state parks throughout the region offer plenty of outdoor activities for all seasons, from snowmobiling and cross-country skiing in winter to camping, hiking, boating and biking in warmer months. Visit some of the area's wineries or breweries on a wine trail or tour with someone else doing the driving, so you can sit back and enjoy what you're sipping.

Places to stay: Boasting its own winery and craft beer, Belhurst Castle is a romantic spot for couples who want Old World flair (think tower suites and vaulted ceilings with chandeliers), while Firelight Camps is a great glamping option with safari-style tents and optional experiences like forest bathing waterfall hikes and mushroom foraging walks.

After wedding and honeymoon planning, your first year together is cause for celebration but also an anniversary that calls for rest and relaxation. For a wallet-free getaway (no worrying about going over budget here!), all-inclusive resorts are the way to go. But don't think that means you'll be limited to buffets and swim-up bars — the newest crop of all-inclusive resorts include everything from overwater bungalows to private island paradises.

Kamalame Cay, Bahamas

The arrival via seaplane into Kamalame Cay , off the coast of Andros Island, is just as much part of the experience as the 96-acre private island itself. Home to the only overwater spa in the Bahamas, the family-run (and dog-friendly!) island off the world's third-largest Great Barrier Reef is a luxurious way to celebrate your first year together — and can even double as a delayed honeymoon if you've been too busy settling into your new life together to officially take one.

Ambergris Cay, Turks & Caicos

At Ambergris Cay in Turks & Caicos, everything from private tennis pros and yoga instructors to fully stocked villas are part of the all-inclusive concept. Spend your days cruising the coast on a catamaran or trekking along one of the guided nature walks, which end at a romantic sunset viewpoint. S'mores and beach bonfires are a few of the perks of laidback island life here, but one of the highlights is a speedboat ride over to the floating tiki Hangover Bar on Little Ambergris Cay, where you can sip tropical cocktails while wading in the water near a private, powder-soft sandy beach.

Sandals Royal Caribbean, Jamaica

The first overwater bungalows and villas in the Caribbean, Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay has adopted the concept popular in Bora Bora and brought it much, much closer. Fans of the all-inclusive brand know they'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to drinking and dining (nine restaurants, unlimited premium liquors, five bars, fully stocked in-room mini bars), but this more upscale property also comes with access to a private offshore island, complete with Bali-inspired beach cabanas, a Tahitian-style pool and the Jerk Shack, when you want to taste grilled specialties that are authentically Jamaican.

Club Med Seychelles, Seychelles

Couples can get a taste of old Hollywood glamour at Griffith Observatory . For those more into the outdoors than the cinema, the hike up to the observatory provides fantastic views of the city.

Colorado: Bishop Castle

When you're in love, it feels like there's nothing you can't do — even construct the country's largest self-built castle. Jim Bishop has spent more than 50 years constructing this 160-foot-tall fortress , which he started building when he and his wife needed a place to live. Today, it's become a unique tourist attraction in the mountains south of Colorado Springs, as well as a stunning feat of perseverance.

Connecticut: Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse

The coastline along Lake Superior was once called "the most dangerous piece of water in the world" by novelist James Oliver Curwood — in 1905, one single storm along the rocky coast caused 29 shipwrecks. After that, Congress paid for a lighthouse and fog signal to be installed here, which came to be known as the Split Rock Lighthouse . The state park it's part of also offers visitors opportunities for cross-country skiing, beachside walks, and taking in impressive views of the lake.

Mississippi: Natchez Trace Parkway

A short drive through part of the Mississippi section of the parkway makes for a perfect date. Plan your drive for the fall to enjoy beautiful foliage views.

Missouri: Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Ha Ha Tonka is one of Missouri's most fascinating state parks. Its centerpiece is the stone ruin of a blufftop castle that was built by a local businessman in 1905. He died the following year in one of the state's first automobile crashes, but left behind an impressive spot of land, complete with natural bridges, caves, and a scenic lake, for all to enjoy.

Montana: Lake McDonald

Your love deserves a trip to Glacier National Park's Lake McDonald , where below the surface of the water, unique and vibrantly colored pebbles create a walkable mosaic. The lake's beautifully colored rocks were formed by glaciers, as were many of the impressive cliffs and waterfalls nearby.

Nebraska: Valentine National Wildlife Refuge

Designated by the Audubon Society as an "Important Bird Area," it makes a perfect destination for outdoorsy couples.

Spend the night counting the stars together in one of the darkest spots in the country. The old-school Western town of Tonopah is located halfway between Reno and Las Vegas in a stretch of desert with almost no light pollution, making it a perfect place for stargazing. There are other quirky attractions here, too, like the Clown Motel , where horror enthusiasts can sleep among a collection of more than 3,000 pieces of creepy clown-themed art.

New Hampshire: Lincoln Ice Castles

AJ Mellor / Courtesy of Ice Castles

The Ice Castles , located near Lincoln, New Hampshire, have become known for the otherworldly glow they give off at night. The frozen structures — which look like something straight out of a certain Disney movie — are built from scratch each winter, and come springtime, they melt away. Visit in January for the best chance of enjoying these beauties in optimal wintry weather.

New Jersey: Passion Puddle

College sweethearts can spend their time at Rutgers' Passion Puddle, the site of legendary collegiate-romance lore. According to Rutgers tradition, anyone who walks around the pond three times with their lover will marry them — so be sure that your pond-side strolling is done with the right person.

New Mexico: Dwan Light Sanctuary

M L Pearson / Alamy

The Dwan Light Sanctuary in Las Vegas, New Mexico, will have guests seeing their partner in a whole new light. The space is equal parts art installation and scientific feat, consisting of an empty white space that fills with rainbows each day as the sun shines through 12 large prisms in the building's apses. The sanctuary was designed as "a refuge from the pace, conflicts, and anxieties of daily living" and is the perfect destination for couples looking to relax and reflect.

New York: Niagara Falls

Peter Unger / Lonely Planet Images / Getty Images

Niagara Falls has been known for more than 200 years as "the honeymoon capital of the world," thanks to its popularity among newly wedded travelers from all corners of society. Join in on the couple's-trip tradition on a visit with your partner, where you can marvel at Niagara's thundering waterfalls (there are technically three!) and enjoy the region's impressive array of wineries, B&Bs, and other attractions.

North Carolina: Highlands

As the setting for nearly all of Nicholas Sparks's novels, North Carolina is full of romantic spots. The dreamiest of all, though, is the town of Highlands , located near the Georgia and South Carolina borders. Boutique properties like Half-Mile Farm offer suites and cottages perfect for loved-up couples, while the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains are bursting with unforgettable views.

North Dakota: Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Dirk Anschutz / Getty Images

Couples who love wide open spaces can head to Theodore Roosevelt National Park , where the Great Plains meet the Badlands. Come nightfall, the park offers an impressive view of the stars — it's possible to spot the Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy, and even the Northern Lights in good conditions. During the daytime, make a stop to hike through the naturally colorful Painted Canyon or drive the Theodore Roosevelt Scenic Byway.

Ohio: Crystal Cave

RosaIreneBetancourt 8 / Alamy

Those planning on popping the question can do so here with the aid of a larger-than-life stone. Crystal Cave is not a cave in the traditional sense, but rather the interior of the world's largest geode, discovered in 1897 by workers who were building a well. Today, you can tour the inside of the geode — whose walls are lined with crystals as big as 18 inches in length — on a visit to Heineman's Winery . The winery, located on the Lake Erie island town of Put-in-Bay, has offered tours of the cave on their property for more than 100 years.

Oklahoma: Center of the Universe

Robert Heber / Shutterstock

The Center of the Universe in Tulsa is an audio oddity. For reasons that scientists don't entirely understand, those who stand on this point — marked by a worn, circular stone at the center of a pedestrian bridge downtown — can speak as loud as they want and not be heard by passersby standing even a few feet away. So go ahead and loudly proclaim your love instead of whispering sweet nothings. No one else will hear.

Oregon: Thor's Well

Gallo Images / Getty Images

Proclaim your love at one of the most epic landscapes on the West Coast. Thor's Well looks like a powerful sinkhole in the ocean — so much so that it's sometimes referred to as "the drainpipe of the Pacific." In actuality, the landmark is just an optical illusion, created where a 20-foot depression in the rock creates the appearance of a sinkhole. Still, the well here certainly seems bottomless — just like your love for your partner.

Pennsylvania: The Poconos

Like Niagara Falls, the Pocono Mountains have a long history as an American honeymoon icon. Newlywed couples have flocked to the region for centuries due to its stunning natural beauty, and, because of that couples' cottage industry, the mountains are packed with adults-only resorts. Stay at Cove Haven in Lakeville for a dose of kitschy, vintage romance — some rooms here have hot tubs in the shape of giant champagne coupes.

Rhode Island: Mohegan Bluffs

jphoto / Alamy

A stroll along Mohegan Bluffs is one of the most dramatic walks available in the Ocean State. The bluffs stand 200 feet above the beach below and, on a clear day, provide views straight across the Block Island Sound to Montauk, New York. After a stroll, check out the picturesque lighthouses that dot Block Island.

South Carolina: Pitt Street Bridge

Daniela Duncan / Getty

Located just a short drive from Charleston in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, this bridge-turned-park is the perfect place for a waterfront evening stroll among the palmetto trees. In this neck of the woods, it doesn't get more romantic than that.

South Dakota: Black Hills National Forest

BenjaminSullivan/Getty Images

Whether you’re looking for a scenic drive or a challenging hike, this national forest has something for every couple. The park also offers campgrounds if you want to stay overnight (and stargazing out in nature sounds pretty romantic, if you ask us).

Tennessee: Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Mint Images/Getty Images

If love keeps lifting you higher, head to the highest point in all of Tennessee. At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome offers some of the best views in the Southeast, and it's a highlight of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Continue your outdoorsy date in this popular park with a waterfall hike or a scenic train ride .

Texas: San Antonio River Walk

Adam Jones/Getty Images

A stroll along the San Antonio River Walk is a romantic way to spend a day in this charming Texas city. Find a spot to eat dinner on the water or grab an ice cream cone and enjoy the sights on a nice day.

Utah: Delicate Arch

Love is powerful, but it can sometimes be delicate — and you can marvel at a similarly fragile treasure at Arches National Park . Although this geologic feature is now widely known as Delicate Arch , it's also been called many other colorful names, like "Cowboy's Chaps" and "Old Maid's Bloomers."

Vermont: Scenic Route 100 Byway

Prisma by Dukas/Getty Images

Take a leisurely drive down part (or all) of this 200-mile scenic byway, and be sure to stop in some of the charming small towns along the way, like Waterbury, Killington, and Stowe. Fall is the best season to make this trip, thanks to the famously vibrant Vermont fall foliage that's visible throughout the route.

Virginia: Natural Bridge

The dramatic arch of this landmark near Roanoke makes it a perennially popular spot for couples' photoshoots. The 215-foot-tall rock tunnel is the main event here, but Natural Bridge is more than just a geologic formation — it's also the name of the surrounding state park and the neighboring town, giving visitors here the chance to enjoy hiking, stargazing, and a stay at one of the area's charming B&Bs.

Washington: Ruston Way Waterfront

Getty Images/Wirestock

Couples looking for a walk with a view on the West Coast can head to Tacoma's Ruston Way Waterfront for (practically) every type of landscape they could hope to gaze upon. From the boardwalk, you can look out at the bay of Puget Sound, and if you turn around, it's possible to spot the peak of Mount Rainier rising over the city.

Washington, D.C.: Tidal Basin

SeanPavonePhoto / iStockphoto / Getty Images

For a romantic treat on your next trip to Washington, D.C. , rent a paddle boat and row out along the Tidal Basin for some of the best views of the Jefferson Memorial. Spring is the best time to visit, thanks to the stunning beauty of cherry blossom season , but this is a great destination at any time of year. When boat rentals stop for the winter, plan to take a walk around the basin instead of a paddle on it for equally impressive views.

West Virginia: Lindy Point

Couples who love the outdoors will find much to enjoy in West Virginia. The state is packed with romantic vistas, but arguably the best one can be found at Lindy Point in Blackwater Falls State Park . A short hike will get you to the Point, but if you want to add on more adventure, the rest of the park is worth exploring too, with scenic gorges and its namesake waterfall.

Wisconsin: Schoolhouse Beach

Deb Schense / Alamy

Couples can take a trip to Washington Island in Wisconsin's Door County for the ultimate Midwestern beach vacation. The entire county is packed with romantic charm, thanks to its quaint B&Bs and cozy, old-school restaurants, but Schoolhouse Beach is especially worth a visit. The beach consists of smooth white pebbles instead of sand, and its location near the easternmost point in Wisconsin will make you feel like you're on the edge of the world.

Wyoming: Grand Prismatic Spring

For the type of romance that can be described as "steamy," a trip to Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring is more than appropriate. The largest hot spring in the United States is also one of the country's most striking. It can only be described as a rainbow of natural beauty — a line you can totally steal while on a date in the park.

Itching for a romantic weekend getaway? While we fully believe that there's no better anniversary gift than one that will help you make memories together (though we wouldn't say no to some nice jewelry ), you don't have to save your vacation for a special occasion. Sometimes a quick couples trip can be just what the doctor ordered. You can head to the Southern US or an all-inclusive in the Caribbean for sunny, beach-friendly weather, the Northeast or West for some mind clearing mountain air, or even European capitals to see the highlights.

The first step is deciding what kind of couples vacation you’re craving: Do you plan on hunkering down in the sheets all weekend? Are you ready to hit the pavement and explore a new city through its museums and restaurants? Or are you looking for a relaxing babymoon destination where you can dig into a juicy new nonfiction book and wiggle your toes in some warm, powder-soft sand? We've compiled some of our favorite locations around the world—from affordable locales to high-end resorts for celebrating milestones—all of which will ignite the romance. So pack your best swimsuit (or puffer jacket ), hop on Expedia (their new ChatGPT tool makes even last-minute planning super easy), or grab a Booking.com promo code , and read on to find out which trip is perfect for you…and yours.

Dominican Republic

Courtesy of Eden Roc Cap Cana

Courtesy of Eden Roc Cap Cana

The Dominican Republic may be more well known for spring breaks than romantic weekend getaways, but that could be because you’ve never visited the eastern tip of the island, a paradise known as Cap Cana. Here you’ll find one of the Caribbean’s best marinas for fishing, miles of white-sand beaches for fun in the sun, and some of the country’s most glamorous and romantic hotels. Our pick in the area is Eden Roc Cap Cana , DR’s only Relais & Châteaux property that boasts a whopping 30,000 acres for true seclusion. Apart from elegant beachfront villa accommodations, there is also a brand-new spa and wellness program that includes many in-room services like couples massages and custom bath soaks. And those looking for the most unique romantic dinner should make sure to book a private meal at the boutique property’s on-site cenote, a limestone cave complete with a waterfall fountain. If you're looking for a more inexpensive option, Punta Cana has droves of lovely (and “affordable”) all-inclusives like The Majestic Elegance , which is on a stunning beach with crystal-clear water.

Save when you plan your couples getaway with these Booking.com promo codes .

Le Barthelemy

Courtesy of Le Barthelemy

The glamorous island in the French West Indies is known not only for its elegant hotels but its many peaceful white-sand beaches and romantic watering holes. We recommend a stay at Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa , a boutique oceanfront property that can arrange romantic excursions like a sunset cruise on a private yacht, custom couples massages in partnership with swank beauty line La Mer, and oversized suites complete with private plunge pools that call for a skinny dip.

28 Best Romantic Weekend Getaways for a Couples Vacation 2023

Whether you've been with your SO for a few months and this is the first time you're traveling together or you're celebrating your 25th wedding anniversary, one of our favorite destinations for some serious fun is Nashville. The Music City has everything: bustling honky-tonks to blow off steam and boogie down (we're partial to the old-school vibes at Robert's Western World), incredible eats (we're still dreaming about the wood-fired edamame and Wagyu brisket at Noko and the slab bacon at Oak Steakhouse ), chic cocktail bars far from the main drag (we love Bastion ), and a vibrant arts scene. For a taste of all of the above, stay at The Bobby , where you'll have easy access to its concert series featuring local artists, a slick pool, and one of the most IG-worthy watering holes—its 1956 retrofitted Greyhound bus—and we're just talking about what's on the rooftop. The sleek boutique hotel, which just turned five, has a gallery, a sexy Garage Bar where you can leave your (literal) mark (the walls are adorned in neon graffiti), and some of the most comfortable beds in Tennessee. Though it's perfectly located steps from Printer's Alley and a quick walk from Broadway, you'll feel like you're in an oasis away from the fray if droves of bachelorette parties aren't your thing. And if you did spend most of your weekend mixing and mingling with the girls in the veils, the menu at Union Tavern offers plenty to help you soak up the whiskey. It's the type of eclectic place that'll make you feel like a rock star, which can be enough to shake up any couple's rut.

From the East Coast, you can fly to Puerto Rico in less time than most road trips, making it an appealing long-weekend destination during the winter months, but we love it in the summer too. Its capital, San Juan, is also one of our favorite cities for couples due to its mix of beautiful, historic buildings, and many charming, intimate restaurants. For an inexpensive hotel that is still suitably pampering for a romantic weekend, check in to the Condado Vanderbilt , located in the über-chic Condado district. The storied Spanish Revival property boasts amenities like pool and beach butlers, Puerto Rico’s only hammam, and two different oceanfront restaurants.

Antigua may not get as much attention as some other Lesser Antilles islands like St. Kitt’s or St. Lucia, but we think being a little more under the radar is what makes it one of the more romantic locales in the region. We’re huge fans of its gentle ocean breezes, peaceful white-sand beaches, and the vibrant coral reefs to explore by snorkel or scuba. And if you’re longing for a vacation during which you don’t have to plan a single thing, check out Curtain Bluff , an all-inclusive with—thankfully—delicious food and plenty of on-site bonding activities like snorkeling trips to Cades Reef or couples tennis lessons. And if your MO is simply to laze, your beach concierge can certainly help with that.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

About 168 miles north from Mexico City, the fairy-tale-like San Miguel de Allende is more than worth the three and a half-hour drive it takes to get there from the capital (or an hour and a half from the nearest airport in Léon, Guanajuato). The storied city, first established in the 16th century, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, and makes for an idyllic long weekend escape. Chic overnight options abound in San Miguel de Allende, though, for a truly memorable experience that captures the historic charm, consider staying at Casa de Sierra de Nevada, a Belmond Hotel. Located in the heart of the city center, the property consists of six restored 17th- and 18th century Mexican mansions in a walkable cluster, each complete with vaulted archways, bougainvillea-shaded courtyards, and ornate, trickling fountains. Accommodations-wise, there are 23 suites and 14 rooms, each one uniquely decorated with antique furnishings and local artworks. The outdoor pool, ensconced in lush greenery, is certainly a highlight, but far from the only one. There’s plenty to love and enjoy when staying here, from the central location to the variety of food; the hotel is home to two restaurants (Andanza and Restaurante del Parque), plus the Sazón Cooking School and Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, a rooftop bar with arguably the best views and cocktails in town. (Stop by for a drink at sunset and thank us later.) Having a car in San Miguel de Allende isn’t needed, as nearly all the main attractions are walkable; the hotel is minutes away from the daily Market, the Parroquia church (a 17th-century gothic marvel), and the best churros in town at Chocolates y Churros San Agustín. A vibrant art scene thrives in San Miguel de Allende; La Fabricá la Aurora is a must-visit for discovering the local crafts.

If you're thinking of heading out west, it's well worth spending a few days in the Land of Enchantment. Fly into Albuquerque, then make your way north to Santa Fe, an hour and change drive to New Mexico's capital. Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Santa Fe is a popular destination for creatives and adventurers of all stripes, with a big local arts scene, unique pueblo-style adobe architecture, and tons of skiing, hiking, and mountain biking available throughout the year. For a weekend trip, stay at the charming Bishop's Lodge , which is located just outside the downtown area in Tesuque. It's the perfect place to appreciate the rich cultural history of New Mexico and reconnect with nature. Spend the morning swimming, horseback riding, or hiking around the property, then arrange for a pueblo tour for after lunch, followed by a massage in the spa. Book dinner at Sky Fire, which specializes in wood-fired dishes with local, seasonal ingredients. For a day trip, make time to visit Georgia O'Keeffe's home and studio in Abiquiú, which is open for private and public tours throughout the year.

Miami is an understandably popular destination: sunny skies, sexy cocktail bars, and plenty of beaches. But not every hotel screams romance when music from the rooftop bar is pounding until 2 a.m. That’s why we’re huge fans of Surfside, a more peaceful and elegant enclave due north of the debauchery of South Beach. And one of our favorite hotels there is one you’ve probably seen on Instagram: The Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club . A veritable oasis in the middle of the buzzing city, it boasts oceanfront rooms, some of Miami’s best restaurants, and a historic lobby bar that is as sultry as they come. They offer plenty of ways to pamper your significant other, including private poolside cabanas for some surreptitious canoodling, and personalized cocktails from the cocktail trolley at The Champagne Bar. Pro tip: You can even ask for a custom picnic basket to set up a romantic dinner on the beach. The Setai is another perfect place if you're there more to soak up the sun than the tequila. The entire property is dimly lit to exude all the calm energy, and that's nothing compared to visiting the five-star Valmont spa (get the Luminosity of Ice facial, trust us). There are also three different pools all set at different temperatures so you can swim year-round, and there's private beach access, too. As for dining, the Setai's options are unmatched. We're partial to Jaya which has a selection of Asian-fusion dishes and evening entertainment like fire dancers and contortionists.

Cancún, Mexico

Courtesy of Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Cancun

Cancún might not be the first place you think of for a relaxing family vacation, but there's no reason why it can't be—and one of the best places to unwind in the Yucatan peninsula is the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa , one of the area's most modern and luxurious all-inclusive resorts. Set on a palm tree-studded beach, it features not one, not two, but six pools between the rooftop and the ground level that are perfect for entertaining couples, friend groups, and families with young kids. As an all-inclusive resort, food and drink is the star of the show: There are multiple Mexican cuisine options (including a taco food trunk on the beach), a Japanese restaurant, a steakhouse, and Chinese fusion up on the roof. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the suite—or in the Gourmet Hall, which turns into a massive buffet each morning. For a slow wakeup or night in, there's of course room service, which is handled here by a dedicated floor butler who's available round-the-clock. Since the word “spa” is in the resort's name, you'd be remiss not to book a spa appointment, which offers massages and facials, as well as a signature hydrotherapy circuit. (Pro tip: Book an evening session and watch the sunset as you alternate between dips in the cold plunge bath and the heated jacuzzi.) A four-night stay would be ideal to enjoy a little bit of everything the resort has to offer (hi, morning yoga), though we wouldn't blame you for wanting to extend your trip by a few more days.

28 Best Romantic Weekend Getaways for a Couples Vacation 2023

Aruba, known as One Happy Island, is one of our favorite Caribbean vacation spots not only for its world-famous beaches but for its relative affordability. It has plenty of hotels for couples, like the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino , which is a popular spot for engagements (hint-hint). The hotel even employs a sunset concierge, who can suggest the perfect romantic spot for popping the big question. And if you’re already married? Fun fact: Aruba is also known as a vow-renewal destination and the hotel can set up a whole renewal package, which includes a couples massage and a 30-minute photo shoot during sunset. If your idea of romance is singing your heart out, the downtown happens to have a very fun piano bar . Or while away the day at Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort's private flamingo island, which is excellent for photo ops.

Puerto Vallarta

Courtesy of Hilton Vallarta Riviera

Courtesy of Hilton Vallarta Riviera

Puerto Vallarta, on Mexico’s western coast, is fast becoming our favorite beach destination in the country. Not only are the shores of the Pacific Ocean spectacular, but many of the resorts in the area are comparatively inexpensive. One of the standout properties here is the Hilton Vallarta Riviera, which is perched between the Bahia de Banderas and the tropical forests near the Sierra Madre Mountains. And because every room here is outfitted with a private balcony, it’s a stellar hotel for a romantic escape. Or, for a hotel with history, stay at Casa Kimberly , the former home of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (you can also just stop by for a cocktail). Plus, the LGBTQ+-friendly downtown has an array of fun bars, restaurants, and cabarets (don't miss the Beyoncé impersonator ), as well as affordable places to stay. We love Pinnacle Suites which is relatively inexpensive, especially if you're traveling with another couple.

Courtesy of Hôtel de Crillon A Rosewood Hotel

We couldn’t write a romantic travel guide without including the City of Love, right? While we probably don’t need to sell you on Paris, we’ll give you a quick primer: Everything is beautiful. From the winding streets of Le Marais to the stunning art collections at Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre to the quiet elegance of the Seine River, it’s hard to turn a corner here without feeling amorous. And if you’re celebrating a special anniversary or just looking for a bit of a splurge trip, Hôtel de Crillon is jaw-droppingly romantic. Located in an iconic and historic building in the heart of the city at Place de La Concorde, the property is one of Paris’s grandes dames for good reason. For couples, indulgence is the key word here, from the bespoke treatments at Sense, a Rosewood Spa, to intimate private dinners at La Cave, to enormous suites, some of which were designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Don’t miss a meal at the brand-new restaurant, Nonos et Comestibles par Paul Pairet, helmed by one of France’s most acclaimed chefs. There's also the new Hôtel Dame des Arts in the Left Bank that features a beautiful rooftop bars with views for days. Celebrating a milestone anniversary? Also consider the Cheval Blanc Paris , which is, in a word très magnifique thanks to its stunning panoramic views of the Seine.

Wailea, Maui

You’re probably aware of the charms of the Hawaiian islands, and of Maui specifically, but we will direct you to our favorite part of the island: Wailea. With 1,500 acres of beaches and resorts and only 35 minutes from the Kahului Airport, it’s the idyllic spot for a romantic getaway. And no hotel in the area is better for couples than Hotel Wailea , an all-suite and—crucially—adults-only boutique property. For a once-in-a-lifetime dinner, book a meal in the hotel’s secluded treehouse, where couples can savor a seven-course meal while suspended among fragrant mango trees.

Mexico City

Courtesy of Ignacia Guest House

Mexico City is the most chameleon-like of cities, seemingly able to adapt to any sort of vacation, for any type of traveler. And with its charming, colorful streets, incredible yet inexpensive restaurants, plentiful mezcal, and temperate climate, it’s certainly top of mind for romantic weekend getaways. For a refuge that is both high-touch service but affordable, look into the charming Ignacia Guest House . With room for only 18 guests, it’s incredibly intimate, and it’s also filled with private terraces and fragrant gardens that can be the setting for clandestine kisses. Even better, it’s a proper bed-and-breakfast. Guests wake every morning to the smell of tortillas cooking on the griddle, and can sit down to a glass of orange juice freshly squeezed from the old-growth citrus trees on property.

New Orleans

Courtesy of International House Hotel

If romance to you means excellent food and drink, and live music, then consider New Orleans. One of our favorite boutique hotels is also one of the city’s most inexpensive. International House , located just a few blocks away from the French Quarter, is inside a beautiful Beaux Arts building that is also the city’s first boutique hotel. The hotel can arrange a private cocktail experience at its award-winning bar, loa, or even a private Vodou ceremony, which includes creating a lucky charm for the couple.

Santa Barbara

Courtesy of Mar Monte Hotel

While you can’t really say Prince Harry put Montecito and Santa Barbara on the map, we are finding ourselves more interested in the central California coast after he and Meghan Markle set up camp there a few years ago. Unfortunately, we can’t wrangle you a double date with the duo, but we can point you in the direction of one of Santa Barbara’s best hotels: Mar Monte . With three acres of Spanish-inspired grounds and a pool with oceanfront views, it’s the prime weekend getaway for romance. The hotel is also offering a special Mar Monte by Land and Sea package for the holiday, which includes a private flight, a three-hour wine tasting, and a private sunset charter on a yacht.

Courtesy of The Mayfair Townhouse

Courtesy of The Mayfair Townhouse

Elegant London, with its beautiful architecture, plentiful parks, and bountiful cultural activities (hello, West End), is one of our favorite cities for a romantic escape. And our preferred spot for a couples vacation is The Mayfair Townhouse , an intimate and stylish hotel that's primely located. Besides the attentive staff, we love the hotel’s on-site watering hole, The Dandy Bar, which is a great way to end a busy day of sightseeing (or begin the start of your evening). Couples looking for the utmost privacy and space should ask for the The Garden Suite, which comes with its own conservatory and patio. Or book a stay at the newly renovated, Dorchester in Mayfair which has an especially sexy site for sipping, the Vesper bar , which plays homage to James Bond.

Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina

Courtesy of Montage Palmetto Bluff

Courtesy of Montage Palmetto Bluff

There are few places we’ve visited that are imbued with a sense of calm like Palmetto Bluff, a secluded enclave of 20,000 acres in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. And with plenty of scenic walking paths, a stellar golf course, and tons of Southern-inflected restaurants, you won’t be bored, either. The area is also home to one of the state’s swankiest resorts: Montage Palmetto Bluff. A quick drive from either Savannah (another great couples escape) or Hilton Head, it’s ideal for a romantic getaway; on-site Spa Montage even has a whole section of the menu dedicated to couples. There you can indulge in everything from massages to the intriguingly named Lovers Jubilee, which includes an exfoliation, a soak, and a massage. And while we wouldn’t blame you if you were loath to leave your bed (they’re  very comfortable), make sure you grab dinner at River House, the hotel’s delicious ode to Lowcountry cuisine.

Chances are, when you think of a romantic Caribbean destination, you’re picturing something in the Bahamas. Known for its crystal-clear ocean water, and 16 major islands offering a wealth of outdoor activities, it’s an excellent locale for a romantic vacation that involves equal doses of downtime and heart-pounding adventure. The islands are home to a wide range of properties, but if you’re looking to truly wow your sweetheart, make a beeline for The Ocean Club . Famed for its sprawling, white-sand beach, couples can opt for mega-sized rooms like Villa Residences or a bungalow complete with an infinity plunge pool.

And if you can snag a hotel room with a view of Central Park, there is hardly a more iconic way to spend your vacation. For the ultimate in classic New York hospitality, grab a room at the storied Ritz-Carlton New York , Central Park. After its recent renovation, one of the city’s most elegant (and centrally located) properties is once again welcoming guests for romantic sojourns.

Georgetown, Washington, DC

Washington, DC’s Georgetown neighborhood, with its charming townhouses, excellent shopping, and superb restaurants, is one of the most vibrant areas in the entire city. And with the recent opening of Rosewood Washington, DC , and its unique Townhouse collection, now is a great time for a romantic escape. Couples who book one of these oversized accommodations are treated to a vacation in essentially a private home with room service on speed dial. There will also be a special Rosewood Romance package for the holiday, which includes Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries on arrival. For a truly romantic outing, head to Martin's Tavern where JFK proposed to Jackie O.

Courtesy of Secret Bay

Known as the Caribbean’s “nature island,” Dominica may often be mistaken for its more famed neighbor, the Dominican Republic, but the names are really where the similarities end for these two islands. The unmatched beauty of Dominica’s landscape makes it one of the most soothing places to visit for a tropical vacation. And there is no hotel more romantic on the island than Secret Bay , whose all-villa room stock also makes it one of the most luxurious. Here couples can relax in their oversized bathtub for two or take a dip in their personal plunge pool followed by a relaxing hammock nap. And don’t look for menus at dinnertime: Your meals can be customized to your exact preferences. But if you’d rather not be bothered at all? Just stick the red flag outside your villa; the staff will make sure you get plenty of—ahem—alone time

Waikiki, Oahu

Courtesy of Wayfinder Waikiki

There may be nowhere more fun on Oahu than Waikiki. The south shore area of Honolulu is jam-packed with beautiful resorts, plenty of excellent shopping, and beautiful beaches with calm water. But finding a hotel in Waikiki that’s romantic, chic,  and inexpensive was pretty much impossible until the recent opening of the über-charming Wayfinder . Located right in the center of town, the midcentury modern boutique property has rooms at a very budget-friendly rate, along with poolside suites and quirky, colorful decor. Enjoy a romantic night on your room’s private lanai, or take advantage of the hotel’s location for a quick stroll on the nearby beach. Insider tip: The poolside speakeasy, Lost + Found, is opening soon for tasty, tropical-themed cocktails.

We all know that the Hudson Valley is having a moment. And unlike some of the popular beach towns close to New York City, this bucolic area just a few hours north of the metropolis has plenty to offer year-round, from skiing in the winter to stunning hiking in the summer. But until this fall, it lacked a true destination-worthy property; the kind of place you splurge on for a special anniversary or romantic weekend away. That all changed with the opening of Wildflower Farms , a peaceful retreat set against the stunning backdrop of the Shawangunk Ridge. The rooms here are all freestanding cabins, which makes them perfect for an intimate couples vacation, but there’s plenty to do on site as well, from sumptuous spa Thistle and steamy outdoor hot tubs to stellar farm-to-table cuisine from on-site restaurant Clay. Or, if you're looking for a more urban escape, shack up in an Airbnb in the town of Hudson, where restaurants, bars, and shopping will all be in walking distance.

Asheville, North Carolina

28 Best Romantic Weekend Getaways for a Couples Vacation 2023

This lush city in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains is as perfect for couples who like to take in nature (the hiking trails are next-level) as it is for those who prefer to…après-hike. There are as many scenic trails as there are breweries; plus, it has a bustling arts scene. Stay at the historic Omni Park Grove Inn to enjoy sweeping views of the stunning nature Asheville has to offer, or downtown for easy access to all the bars and restaurants—it's a totally walking-friendly city! If your love language is sharing a microbrew, it also has more than 40 fantastic breweries featuring great craft beer, and many offer live music and enough giant pretzels to help you soak up those IPAs.

Ios, Greece

Calio Resort in Ios Greece

While if you're traveling directly from the U.S. to Greece, this destination wouldn't exactly work for a weekend, but we'd be remiss if we didn't include a property that was quite literally built on love in this round-up. For a more laid-back holiday, the Greek island of Ios is known for its stunning remote beaches and archaeological sites. While you can find a vibrant party scene (nothing says romance quite like sharing a few cocktails on the sand and dancing till dawn), there are also ample places to relax. Situated in a mostly untapped area in what was once a hippie haven in the ’70s, the luxury resort Calilo was created with sustainability and privacy in mind. It offers 30 suites that are mindfully designed with features like heart-shaped plunge pools (hey, we said it was romantic), swim-up bars, and sumptuous daybeds. Each element of the property is infused with the love and creativity of the owners. a couple who have been operating Calio since 2019. If you’re lucky enough to catch an encounter with the Greek matriarch of the family-owned property, you might even get some sage words of marital wisdom (“Our philosophy? Create a life you can fall in love with”). This June the tranquil retreat will debut a three-story spa and wellness center and three additional state-of-the-art suites.

Charleston, South Carolina

Iconic row of colorful historic houses downtown Charleston SC.

For a destination that exudes Southern charm, has year-round lovely weather, and is the perfect city to while away the afternoon walking hand in hand on its famously beautiful streets, consider Charleston, where you can almost always snag affordable flights if you're coming from the East Coast. Stay the The Vendue , which is conveniently located near the harbor and the most picturesque Rainbow Row (guests can grab a free bike to help them explore). The hotel also happens to have one of the best rooftops in town to kick your feet up and take in a sunset and views of Charleston's iconic architecture.

Located a mere 30 minutes from Austin (traffic dependent, of course), Dripping Springs is known for its many wineries, its beautiful Hill Country views, and for being home to what is arguably the most photogenic swimming hole in Texas: the famous Hamilton Pool.

Beyond its iconic swimming hole, though, Dripping Springs still has plenty more to offer.

Big Bend National Park, along with Big Bend Ranch State Park located right next door, are home to some of the most dramatic views in West Texas.

Don’t miss the stunning Santa Elena Canyon or the rugged beauty of the Lost Mine Trail during your trip!

Be sure to make plans to visit the (sort of) nearby McDonald Observatory, too: Big Bend is internationally recognized for its dark skies, making the McDonald Observatory an unparalleled place for stargazing in Texas .

A trip to Big Bend Country will undoubtedly mean spending a lot of time in the car making your way through the national park as well as regional highlights like Terlingua , Marfa, and Lajitas –but what could be more romantic than long drives through beautiful scenery alone with your love?

Check out our guide to the best hikes in Big Bend National Park !

Caddo Lake State Park (+ Jefferson)

While Texas may be classically characterized as a place of cowboys and desert landscapes, at Caddo Lake State Park, you’ll find a very different kind of Texas–one dotted with giant cypress trees that drip Spanish moss and leisurely canoe rides.

This isn’t a lake for swimming–the alligators who live in the lake are best avoided–but it is utterly beautiful, and a perfect escape from daily life.

Combining a visit to Caddo Lake with a weekend spent in the beloved town of Jefferson (known for its historic bed and breakfasts and delightful downtown) makes for a fantastic weekend trip for couples hoping to combine nature with small-town charm.

Hiking to the Lighthouse , stargazing in the park, and (if you’re visiting in the summer) attending the classic Texas Outdoor Musical all belong on your list of things to do in Palo Duro Canyon.

The state park is also a short drive from Route 66 , so consider taking a detour to snap cute couples photos at kitschy spots like Cadillac Ranch while you’re there, too!

Spending a day tubing the Frio River is an absolute must, of course, but be sure to set aside time to climb Mount Baldy and soak in views of the river from above, too!

Guadalupe Mountains National Park

Set just south of the New Mexico border in West Texas, Guadalupe Mountains National Park is home to the four highest peaks in Texas and some incredible hiking trails.

For couples who love to hike together, there may be no more romantic trip in Texas than summiting Guadalupe Peak and standing at the literal top of Texas together!

Whether it's been one year or many since your wedding, the right romantic anniversary idea can help to set a tone of love and care, while bringing you and your partner closer together.

Getaway Weekend

There is nothing more romantic than getting away from the daily bustle and spending time together on an island hideaway or in a snowy cabin. Getaways help you to live large for the weekend. It doesn't have to be exotic, either. Travel to a new city and see the sights together.

Couples Massage and Spa

Unwind together with a luxurious and relaxing spa day that will help you feel recharged for the year ahead. Enjoy a couples massage side-by-side to avoid the wait of taking turns. Or, if you're on a budget, read up on massages, buy some oils, and do it yourself.

Spend the Day in Bed

Sometimes the greatest luxury is being able to let go and do nothing with your time. Whether you serve each other breakfast in bed, enjoy a movie marathon, or are all-in for relaxation and romance, there are plenty of ways to celebrate your anniversary without leaving the bedroom.

Book a Night in a Hotel

If you want a classic romantic anniversary idea, book a stay at a hotel or a bed-and-breakfast. Enjoy the liberation of staying in a new place without your usual household responsibilities. Make it a staycation by remaining local without having to follow your usual routines.

Make a "Remember When" Poster

You two have had some magical moments together, haven't you? You've shared moments that were profound, hilarious, wild, or indulgent. Relive those memorable times together by creating a personalized "Remember When" poster. The two of you will share a smile every time you look at it, and it will inspire you to create more amazing memories for the future.

Do Something from Your Bucket Lists

Bucket lists are a great source of inspiration for things to do in life. The extra effort of planning in advance may be more work, but it's worth it to make a truly memorable anniversary. Choose something you know your partner has been longing to do, or brainstorm an anniversary idea you'd like to both tick off your list. You might go to see a favorite band or travel to a dreamed-of destination.

Picnic Outside

Short on time on your anniversary day? You still have a chance to make it memorable by putting together a sunset picnic and meeting at a beautiful park to enjoy the oncoming evening. Don't forget to pack the champagne and chocolates!

Dine at a Special Date-Night Restaurant

Pick a restaurant that you've been dreaming of and wouldn't normally go out to. Dress up nice, order what you really want, and pull out all the stops to enjoy your candlelit dinner. Over dinner, you can talk about your dreams for the year ahead while you share and enjoy the food.

Book a Chef's Table Reservation

A meal at a chef's table offers a unique experience of multiple curated and often seasonal courses. For the anniversary dinner, give your partner the opportunity to dress up and splurge on a mind-blowing meal and wine pairing. A truly memorable anniversary idea for the foodies out there!

Return to the Location of your First Date

A cute anniversary idea is to head back to the spot of your first date and relive some of the magic of that moment, and create some new memories as well! If you've since moved away from the city where you met, plan a trip to return to and visit your old hangouts as you walk down memory lane.

Go Out Dancing

Looking forward to some high energy romance for your anniversary? Go out dancing with your loved one and show them all of your affection. Kick off a steamy night by hitting the club or keep it classy with ballroom or swing. Dancing is sure to heat things up for later!

Take a Luxurious Soak

Take your love for a soak to warm things up, while sipping your champagne and snacking on chocolate-covered strawberries. A hot tub date is sure to be full of relaxation and romance. Take this romantic anniversary idea up a notch by making it a weekend getaway to a hot spring for some luxurious soaking.

Return to Your Wedding Venue

Some of our greatest and strongest memories of marriage all took place at the wedding venue. For your anniversary, call up your venue and reserve a spot to enjoy some of what they have to offer, whether its a wine and beer tasting, a nice lunch, or even a spot for a picnic. And don't forget to recreate some of your wedding venue photos if you can!

Fun Anniversary Ideas

If you and your partner are wondering what to do on your anniversary, it's worth your while to check out some fun ways to celebrate. Having a bit of fun for your anniversary date is a great way to warm things up between you and incorporate the things that you both enjoy.

Fun Anniversary Ideas 800x800

Go For an Adventure

Adventures are one way to make an anniversary a truly unforgettable celebration. There's something for everyone in the adventure field. You can get daring with skydiving, ziplining, kayaking, or bungee jumping. Or, keep it calm and romantic by riding in a hot air balloon, going on a road trip, skiing, or snorkeling. The sky's the limit for these fun anniversary ideas!

Book a Photo Session

Don't let your wedding photo be the most recent couples photo you've taken together. Rekindle that love by booking a photographer and taking some cute photos to remind you of the way you feel about each other. For the finishing touch, decorate your home with framed versions of the photos.

Cook at Home

An ambitious at-home meal is a great way to bring people together, even when you do need to divvy up the tasks. Make it really special by planning your meals around your fresh and interesting finds from the farmers' market. Or, recreate your wedding night menu, with just two of you. It's a great anniversary idea when you've got young children and want to do something romantic but need to be home for the kids.

Book a Couples' Class

Activities are a great way to break the traditional wine-and-dine cycle of anniversaries. Cooking classes will feed you while also teaching you new culinary techniques that you can use in the future. Or, if you're more into movement, dancing classes help you two learn to move together and give you some steps to practice.

Get Crafty Together

Find an interest that you share, such as taking a ceramics class, a wine-tasting and painting class, or something more performative, like an improv class. Or, try starting a hobby of homebrewed beer or wine. Then when it's time to harvest, you can drink your special wine on the next date night!

Check Out Some Live Music

Music can be an amazing way to get the night moving. At most jazz clubs, you'll find smooth tunes and luxurious elegance, as well as the opportunity to dress up and show off to each other. Or, for more variety, go bar hopping along a street known for its live music.

Go to an Arcade

There are some fun anniversary ideas that are sure to take you directly back in time. For many people this includes playing arcade games. For the right couple, nothing reminds two people of why they're together more than battling pixelated aliens on a retro arcade screen!

Throw a Party

No one says you have to celebrate your anniversary with just the two of you. If you're looking for a reason to throw a party, then go ahead and give everyone a chance to celebrate! Put together an elegant backyard party or stage a throwback to your wedding complete with a dance floor. This anniversary idea works really well for those key milestones, like your 10, 20 and 25 year anniversaries.

Go on a Short Road Trip

Road trips mean good company, unique car entertainment, and a fresh, new place to visit and explore. This can mean the best of all worlds, as you get out of your usual routine and visit your nearby surroundings. For a cheap anniversary idea, make it a camping trip and enjoy s'mores with your sweety beside the fire.

Go for a Brewery or Vineyard Tour

Chances are, your couple preferences lean to one side or the other of the beer or wine divide. Either way, you can't lose. Each beverage tradition comes from a history of experimentation and craftsmanship. Take a tour to learn how your favorite beverages are made and don't skimp on the tasting at the end.

Go to a Comedy Club

Laughter can be a marvelous relaxation aid and stress relief. Taking your Love to good comedy show can put you in a great mood, and get your warmed up for a romantic evening. Not to mention, it gives you a lot to talk about during dinner afterwards. It's a fun anniversary idea that takes you out of your day-to-day routine, and will create memories for years to come!

Go to a Game

Whether or not you're both sports enthusiasts, going to see a game can offer a fun and entertaining outlet. The energy and novelty of the game atmosphere can be a lot of fun, and who knows, it might spark a future sports-fan passion and a new venue for your dates.

Practice Your Mixology Together

Learning to mix and enjoy your own drinks is a fun activity for the evening of your anniversary. Make sure to plan ahead, as you won't want to go back out once you get started. Between inventive mixes and taste-testing delicious cocktails, you're sure to end the evening entertained and warmed up.

Cheap Anniversary Ideas

You don't have to be a big spender to have an enjoyable anniversary. Whatever you do, spending some quality time with your partner is the best way to make the very best memories. The key to an inexpensive anniversary is not dwelling on your budget and planning something personal that's dedicated to the two of you.

cheap anniversary ideas 600x900

Take a Hike

Not only is it free to get out into nature, but it's also an amazing way to get your heart pumping while you both appreciate nature's beauty. Beyond that, going outdoors can help to break your technological connections, allowing your relationship to be the main focus.

Camping is among the most romantic small-budget activities and a great cheap anniversary idea. For your anniversary, enjoy s'mores and cuddling around the campfire. Love the hiking but nervous about the camping experience? Make it glamping (fancy camping), where you can drink champagne under the fir trees and go to bed on an inflatable mattress.

Surprise Him or Her with Love Notes

There are few things more touching than receiving a hand-written note from someone you love. Give your partner a heartfelt love letter that they will be able to keep with them. Or, sprinkle their day and week with small love notes, so that they can't go anywhere without seeing how much you care. It's a cute romantic anniversary idea that doesn't take a lot of planning and will fill their heart with joy!

Cut Off the Technology

By both deciding to turn off phones and computers, you can make anything you do on your anniversary into a special occasion. This allows you to be present to enjoy each other's company while secluded for the evening, which can even make staying in and watching a movie feel more special.

Explore the Local Scene

If you're looking for unique dining anniversary ideas on a budget, check out a street fair and indulge in different cuisines and cultures. Many cities and towns have local fairs, particularly throughout the warmer months. No fairs going on? You might also check out the local food trucks and street food while taking a walking date.

Start a Tradition

It doesn't take a lot to make something special out of the simpler things. What it really requires is doing it happily and intentionally. A fun anniversary idea is to start a tradition of something you and your loved one like to do together. Watch an anniversary movie, have a special meal, or pick a favorite restaurant.

Hit the Planner

Can't get away for your anniversary this year? Bring out your planner, and use the time to plan a trip. Or, plan out a date night for every month of the year. It may take the surprise out of things, but it gives you something to look forward to.

Enjoy Some Games and Trivia

Games and trivia foster both cooperation and competition, which can be a powerful glue to help you and your partner feel unified. Go to a local pub trivia night to test your knowledge, or set up some games at your home. Chances are, playing together will remind you of how much your admire each other... but it could also end in tears if you're super competitive - only you know if this is the right anniversary idea for you and your partner!

Plan a Family Adventure

Sometimes, when you have a family, romantic two-person dates aren't feasible on the day of your anniversary. However, you can still make this a very special family event. Take your spouse and your kids on a picnic, hike, or destination bike ride. Then, you can enjoy your couple romance in the evening.

Set Up a Personalized Scavenger Hunt

A fun and cheap anniversary idea is to set up a personalized scavenger hunt. Leave clues to lead your loved one from their starting position to a destination where you will meet them. Make sure to include things that only the two of you will know. Include little surprises or loving observations about your life together in the clues along the way.

Make a Slideshow of Your Life Together

Sometimes anniversary celebrations can be as simple as a thoughtful gift. A photo slideshow is a powerful way of giving both you and your spouse a way of looking back re-enjoying wonderful moments throughout your life. Also consider putting together a keepsake box for your memories.

Make an Anniversary Music Mix

Nothing gives us nostalgia quite like music from the past. Make a mix of your spouse's favorite music to remind them of when you started dating and fell in love. Play it in the car, on your way to dinner or a picnic, while building your campfire, or while cooking together.

Volunteer Together

Maybe you're getting the feeling that you and your spouse have done it all? This year, spend your anniversary giving back together. Not only can this kind of gratitude service help to enhance your individual mental health, but it can also give you a point of view to appreciate and esteem your partner.

Learn Something New at Home

Spend some time learning something you're both interested in, but avoid the fees by learning at home. There are online tutorials for everything. Don't want to dance in public? Learn in your living room. Cooking classes too expensive? Search for an online cooking class and teach each other. It's a fun anniversary idea that won't break the bank!

Visit a Gallery or Museum

Many cities host free art gallery and museums events. Enjoy a cultured evening together talking over the exhibitions and learning more about history and the world around you.

Anniversary gift: china.

a woman walking in Chinatown, Los Angeles

U.S. destination: Los Angeles

Travel to downtown L.A.’s Chinatown, home to pagoda-like temples and dim sum eateries where you can enjoy soup dumplings with your sweetie. Serenade each other under hanging red lanterns on karaoke night at the intimate Melody Lounge. Or enjoy a blissful foot reflexology session at one of Chinatown’s affordable day spas. Take a self-guided walking tour past the landmarks, herb shops and discount outlets that dot the alleyways and courtyards of this fascinating quarter. For a range of romantic accommodations, stay in Beverly Hills. Splurge on the legendary Beverly Hills Hotel (rates start around $1,100). Or consider the more affordable Mosaic Hotel near the shops of Rodeo Drive (rates start around $260) and the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel (rates start at $260). To see and be seen, sip cocktails and dine at celeb haunts such as the terrace of The Ivy or the candlelit garden of The Little Door.

Trentham Gardens in England

Abroad: Stoke-on-Trent, England

The self-titled World Capital of Ceramics is about a 40-minute drive south of Manchester Airport (MAN). Wedgwood, Halcyon Days and other renowned lines of china and other ceramics have been produced here since the 17th century. Tour the Wedgwood Factory and update your wedding china by hunting for deals at multiple factory stores. Steal a kiss on a bench amid the 725 cultivated acres at award-winning Trentham Gardens. You can also renew your vows there in a columned Italian-style loggia or by the lake. The Stoke area boasts a range of accommodations including The Tawny, a “deconstructed” hotel with tree houses, huts and other accommodations in the middle of the English countryside (rates start at $330). Also consider the Victorian-style Upper House (rates start at $130) and Manor House Hotel & Spa (starting at $154).

Anniversary: pearl .

aerial view of the Honolulu coastline

U.S. destination: Honolulu

Everywhere from historic sites to Honolulu shops, the pearl is a presence on the island of O‘ahu. Shop for the perfectly imperfect gemstone at fine jewelry stores including Honolulu Jewelry Company, Maui Divers Jewelry and Nā Hōkū. In the suburb of Pearl City, active couples can pack a picnic and hike the nearly 3-mile trail to Waimano Falls. Nearby, the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is a must-see site honoring those who lost their lives during the attack. For dinner with a view, toast to three decades with mai tais and hula dancing at The House Without a Key restaurant at the oceanfront Halekulani hotel. Reserve table 97 with postcard views of Diamond Head . It was favored by Ernest Hemingway, who honeymooned here with Martha Gellhorn. Stay at the historic Pink Palace of the Pacific, The Royal Hawaiian resort (rates start at $486), or at the waterfront Kaimana Beach Hotel (rates start at $207). Take a surf class, snorkel or simply soak up the rays.

Holland America Line

Up to $200 onboard credit on select cruises

overwater bungalows in French Polynesia

Abroad: French Polynesia

If your love is into rare pearls, score coveted Tahitian cultured beauties after your plane touches down in Papeete on the main island of Tahiti. Serious shoppers can get a bead on how pearls are classed and cultivated — and see some impressively large ones — at the Robert WAN Pearl Museum. French Polynesia is a tropical playground . From Papeete, take a ferry to the island of Moorea to stay in one of many overwater bungalows with thatched roofs. Book one with tiles of clear glass on the floor to view sea life at the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort (rates start around $1,000 for an overwater bungalow). Also consider the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa (rates start at $555) and Manava Beach Resort & Spa (rates start at $490). Couples on Moorea can experience an intimate motu, or small islet on a coral reef. Picnic where you’re seated at a low table with your toes in shallow crystalline waters while enjoying fresh fish with coconut milk and tropical fruit.

Visit Red Rock State Park for easy hiking trails and book a couples massage at one of the spas around town. Fall asleep in a luxe room, suite or cottage/villa at L’Auberge de Sedona (rates start at $500) or Enchantment Resort (rates start at $450). RV parks and bed-and-breakfast accommodations abound. The menu varies, but breakfast lovers may enjoy homemade muffins and lemon ricotta pancakes during a stay here.

Buddha statue in Bangkok, Thailand

Abroad: Bangkok, Thailand

People who are passionate about fine gems can bond over beautiful jewels in Bangkok. Thailand was once known for mining rubies, but ruby cutting by skilled artisans is the draw here today. Order custom pieces from reputable outlets including the many shops in the Jewelry Trade Center and S.J. International. Craving Thai cuisine? Try a food tour or night market tasting outing in a tuk-tuk motorized rickshaw. Around every corner in markets and alleyways, you’ll find fiery curries, tangy pad thai, sticky mango rice and scrumptious chicken satays. Dine on contemporary Thai cuisine at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin. Away from the bustle, see the 151-foot-long reclining Buddha statue at Wat Pho, where you can book a traditional Thai couples massage. Find romantic five-star lodging under $250 at the Shangri-La and Banyan Tree Bangkok.

Onboard hosts offer entertaining commentary about Western history (you’ll pass one of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s hideouts) and serve chef-prepared breakfast and lunch accompanied by wine, beer or cocktails. Upgrade to SilverLeaf Plus service for access to a glass-roofed viewing car. The trip includes an overnight stop in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where you can soak in soothing hot springs and have the option to stay in the historic Hotel Colorado, where Theodore Roosevelt once laid his head. Another option: Uncommon Tours’ Great Western Holiday is an eight-day outing from Denver to Santa Fe featuring vintage Pullman sleeping cars, some overnights at hotels and a stay in Santa Fe (rates start at $3,995 per person for seven nights).

Abroad: Transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2

You deserve pampering on your 50th, so a cruise vacation that involves unpacking once and never having to arrange meals or activities is a well-deserved reward. Expand your horizons with the gold-standard transatlantic crossing from New York to Southampton, England, aboard the Cunard line’s storied Queen Mary 2 . That means afternoon tea, white-glove service, formal evenings and dancing cheek to cheek (rates start at $639 per person for eight nights). Music lovers can opt for an Oct. 4 cruise to England, with stops in Boston and Newport, that includes onboard performances by the National Symphony Orchestra, starting at $1,639 a person. The ship offers accessible staterooms and restaurants. For the ultimate experience, select Princess Grill or Queens Grill Suites (rates start around $3,809 per person for the Princess Grill), with private balconies and special dining rooms. Take a windblown selfie near the bow, and you’ll feel like king and queen of the world. Also consider an Atlantic passage or other itineraries on the all-inclusive Seabourn and Silversea cruise lines.

Road trips in idaho near me.

What are some of the best road trips in Idaho I can take?

You know, Idaho gets a lot of flak. People refer to it as a “flyover” state, which implies that it’s boring -- and that notion couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s plenty to do – especially if you’re a lover of the open road like we are. Basically, if you can dream it, you can probably drive it. You can spend time traveling the Magruder Corridor, which is a beautiful, scenic drive you’ll never forget. You can drive the famous “road to nowhere” or make a whole thing out of visiting the most haunted places in the state. We also suggest making a whole trip out of Idaho’s spectacular waterfalls. If you’d like more inspiration for the best road trips in Idaho,  take a peek at this list .

Where are the must-visit places in Idaho?

There are several places that come to mind as definitive, iconic “must-do” activities. For instance, it’s imperative that you visit the incredible Shoshone Falls as soon as you can (if you haven’t already). Explore a dormant volcano at Craters of the Moon National Monument, where you’ll have an out-of-this-world fun experience. You won’t believe the surreal beauty on display at Sawtooth National Recreation Area, and Twin Falls is a wonderful place to come to on a hot summer day. Lake Coeur d'Alene, in northern Idaho, is also a must-see – and don’t forget to bring a camera! These locations are all ridiculously photogenic, and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with them as quickly as we did.

Where can I find unique attractions in Idaho?

Believe it or not, Idaho is a state with plenty of unique and otherwise oddball attractions to check out in your spare time. You can explore any number of the interesting (and a bit eerie) ghost towns all over the state, like Custer ghost town, near Stanley, and Burke ghost town, near Wallace. It wouldn’t be Idaho without a museum dedicated entirely to the potato, and Blackfoot, Idaho, has that taken care of. You can also sleep in a giant potato in Boise. In Arco, Idaho, you’ll find the world’s first-ever nuclear power plant. And did you know the center of the universe is a manhole in Wallace? Well, at least they think so...
