Transpacific

A Transpacific cruise is ideal for guests who enjoy multiple days at sea to experience the many activities on board. Most Transpacific voyages are actually repositioning cruises, seasonal sailings to move a ship from one cruising region to another. These cruises generally travel between the western coast of North America and Australia, Asia or the South Pacific.

  • Transpacific cruises are offered year-round.
  • Transpacific cruises generally last from 13 to 30 nights, but longer cruises are available.
  • If you’re flying a long distance to reach the port of departure for your Transpacific cruise, we suggest that you arrive at the port city at least one or two days in advance. This will give you time to rest and get oriented before boarding the ship. Most cruise lines offer pre-cruise hotel packages.

Sydney is Australia's largest and most cosmopolitan city and is the capital of New South Wales, the most heavily populated state of Australia. Sydney is situated on one of the world's most beautiful and famous harbours. Sydney also boasts beautiful beaches, fantastic shops, restaurants, history and culture. Sydney's many highlights include the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, Centrepoint Tower, The Rocks, the stunning harbour and the white sands of Bondi, Manly and beyond. Sydney is also home to beautiful National Parks, the Royal Botanic Gardens, many harbour front picnic locations and heritage areas.

Lifou Island or Drehu in the local language is the largest, most populous and most important island of the Loyalty Islands, in the archipelago of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. With a total area of 1,207 square kilometers Lifou is located east of Australia.

Mystery Island

transpacific cruise celebrity

Aneityum, also known as the Mystery Island, is the southernmost inhabited island in the Vanuatu archipelago. As with all the major islands throughout Vanuatu, it's origins are volcanic and the landscape mountainous. Rich volcanic soils and a slightly more temperate climate encouraged the growth of magnificent stands of sandalwood trees.

Lautoka is 24km up the coast from Nadi Airport. Many tourists only get there because it’s the departure point for Blue Lagoon Cruises and some of the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. It’s a nice harbor front town with duty free shopping and markets but not exactly a holiday destination. Lautoka is known as the ‘Sugar City’ because of its mill and wharf access. The annual Sugar Festival is in September. Incidentally, the name ‘Lautoka’ comes from a legend that two local chiefs were fighting on Farquar’s Point - one chief found himself on the receiving end of a spear and screamed ‘Lau-toka’, which means literally, ‘spear-hit’.

Almost any time of the year is an excellent time to visit Suva. There are so many things happening. Suva, the capital city of Fiji, the thumb of the Pacific, is the place of many happenings. For tourists, the day really begins at about 6pm. Before this, it's best to laze around a swimming pool with a cocktail or go walking or shopping around the city. Suva comes alive at night. This is when live local bands or the current overseas hit songs fill the air. Suva has about 25bars/nightclubs and all are walking distance from each other to make for an ideal pub-crawling night. Suva is a city of colors. While neon lights from the night clubs brighten the nights, the people of Suva brighten up the day. Suva is a city with rich and diverse cultures. It has a multiracial population mix comprised mainly Fijians, Indians, Europeans, Chinese and South Pacific Islanders. People are friendly and always willing to help with directions. So if you are lost, don't hesitate to ask. The locals will help with a smile. There are lots of things to do, see and buy. There are many churches, temples, mosques, bush-walks and gardens. Suva has a botanical garden at the eastern end of town. This is also where Fiji Museum is located. Next to these is the home of the President of the Republic of Fiji.

Pago Pago Harbor

transpacific cruise celebrity

Pago Pago Harbor, a collapsed volcanic caldera is one of the largest natural harbors in the South Pacific. It cuts deeply into the south-central coast almost dividing the island in two. From east to west, a steep mountainous spine runs the 20-mile length of the island, punctuated in places by notable summits including Matafao Peak, Tutuila's tallest mountain at 2,142 feet; North Pioa Mountain, popularly known as Rainmaker Mountain, 1,718; and Mount 'Alava, the steep ridgeline looming to the north of Pago Pago Harbor, marking the south boundary of the park area. Mount Alava lies to the north of Pago Pago Harbor. A hiking trail along the maintenance road leads to the 1610 foot summit.

Kailua/Hawaii

transpacific cruise celebrity

Historians and researchers believe that it is possible that Kailua was home to Hawaiian families at least 1,500 years ago. The earliest settlers are thought to have lived fished and played on the slopes surrounding Kawainui Marsh. A Bishop Museum report on archaeological excavations of the marshland concludes that when the marsh slopes were first occupied about 500 A.D., agriculture was not possible. The report said that early Hawaiian occupants of Kailua apparently lived beside a lagoon or bay open to the sea hundreds of yards shoreside of today's shoreline. In the 16th century, Kailua attracted the ali'i giving birth to many rich Hawaiian legends, some of which may be found in written and oral reminiscences in Hawaii State Libraries. Many legends were born here including the menehune who were known for working at night in Kaiwainui Marsh and mo'o who took the shape of a large lizard that attracted fish. Kailua was densely populated before the arrival of Captain Cook and was the ancient capital of O'ahu's kings. The biggest event in Kailua and the entire Windward side was in 1795 when King Kamehameha I conquered O'ahu in his quest to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The King granted Kaiwainui Marsh and old Kailua, which included large freshwater fish ponds and saltwater ponds at Mokapu, to the warriors and chiefs that had helped him. The land was used in various forms for agriculture from sugarcane to rice to taro and eventually was used primarily for cattle raising. Kailua was a sleepy town of barely 3,000 in the 1940s. However, the events of World War II changed the appearance of Kailua. Kaneohe Ranch sold portions of land to the government for expansion of the Navy base and the Army's Fort Hase. Finally in 1942, Kaneohe Ranch closed down its cattle raising operations entirely, freeing thousands of acres for post-war development. Harold K.L. Castle, owner of Kaneohe Ranch, donated the land for many churches, schools, and for a new hospital. A new four-lane highway, tunneling through the Ko'olau Mountains, was completed in the late 1950s. In 1946, a small Liberty House (now Macy's) shop opened with three employees and upgraded to a full-line department store in 1953 with nearly 50 employees. The first bowling alley, a branch office of the telephone company, and the very first supermarket in Hawaii opened in Kailua in 1947. By the end of the 1950s, Hawaii had become a state and Kailua became the official postal designation. Castle Hospital opened in 1963. By 1960 the population was up to 24,400. The town has grown more than 100 percent since 1960 when its population was 24,402. It has a compact, easy-to-shop business district surrounded by mostly single-family homes. By 1992 50,000 residents encompassed a central urban core with surrounding residential areas.

Anyone lucky enough to be going to Honolulu doesn't have to give a reason for going. They can just say, "We're going to Honolulu," and imagination will take care of the rest. Moreover, Honolulu can probably live up to and even surpass whatever we imagine. World-famous beaches and tropical weather set the scene for an amazing mix of Pacific cultures in this Hawaiian capital. There is a reason why Hawaii is consistently rated as one of the nation's top travel destinations; in fact, there are several of them. Waikiki Beach is the center of activity for Hawaii's biggest industry: tourism. This is one of the world's greatest resort playgrounds, featuring some of the most beautiful beaches and hotels in the world. Visitors from all over the world flock here to enjoy the sun, the sand and the incredible nightlife. Besides the beaches, visitors to Honolulu can take tours of the countryside surrounding the downtown area. These tours are amazing, bringing visitors to some of the most beautiful rainforests and volcanoes in the world. Animal and plant life are abundant, and the scenery is unsurpassed. A five-minute car ride from Honolulu brings visitors into some of Nature's most beautiful and awe-inspiring sights. Several museums, including the Bishop Museum, combine exhibits on Hawaiian natural history with lessons about history and culture of its many diverse peoples. The Waikiki Aquarium is the third oldest public aquarium in the United States, and it features many of Hawaii's most interesting sea animals. The Honolulu Zoo also features some of the unique mammals, birds, and reptiles that inhabit the forests just outside of the city. The history of Hawaii is very rich, as the islands have always attracted many different people. Visitors can tour the Iolani Palace, the residence of the last of the Hawaiian monarchs. They can also visit Honolulu's Chinatown, which is more authentic than many of its mainland counterparts. They can also visit the Arizona Memorial, commemorating the destruction of the battleship Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that brought America into World War II. Honolulu exhibits the best of Hawaii in every way. From its famous beaches to its incredible natural preserves, this town has attracted millions of people from around the world. Many of those visitors stayed, helping to make Hawaii one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse places to visit in the United States. Anyone lucky enough to be going to Hawaii knows that he won't be disappointed.

Top Transpacific FAQs

What is a transpacific cruise like?

A transpacific cruise is a journey between continents. Blissful days at sea as you cross the balmy Pacific are interspersed with stops at beautiful islands, from the jewel-like archipelago of French Polynesia to the desert island beauty of Fiji and Samoa. Some itineraries also call at ports on New Zealand’s North Island.

When the ship is making longer sea passages, you’ll enjoy the gentle rhythm of life on board. Sunbathe by the pool, join a class in the gym, indulge in a spa treatment, and sip cocktails as you gaze at a glorious tropical sunset. If you like to keep busy, our ships are filled with exciting activities, from quizzes to wine-tasting sessions. After dark, you’ll be treated to glittering entertainment in the theater, with live music all over the ship.

When’s the best time to cruise?

The best time to take a transpacific cruise is April and October. This is the drier season in the Pacific, with lower humidity and less rainfall. The weather should be fine for enjoying the sea passages as well as the island destinations en route.

How long are transpacific cruises?

Our transpacific cruises range from 16 to 19 nights and sail between Honolulu, Hawaii and Sydney, Australia.

Are there any visa or entry requirements for the countries visited?

It’s your responsibility to make sure you have any necessary visas for the countries you will visit. You will need a passport for a transpacific cruise. Check your government’s information for each country on your itinerary. For U.S. citizens to visit Australia, for example, either a visa or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is mandatory. The same applies to New Zealand.

U.S. citizens do not require a visa for entry to French Polynesia, Samoa, Vanuatu, or Fiji, but it’s important to check the latest advisory before departing on your cruise. If you do not hold a U.S. passport, check the website of your government to see up-to-date entry requirements for each destination.

What types of onboard amenities and activities are available during the cruise?

Celebrity’s contemporary ships are packed with exciting amenities and activities. You’ll find a sparkling pool and bubbling hot tubs, as well as ample sunbathing space on deck. All of our ships have a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa.

If you’re sailing on Celebrity Solstice, you can enjoy the relaxing Lawn Club, where a game of croquet or boules on the sweet-smelling grass beckons. On Celebrity Edge , sink into a sofa with a coffee or your favorite cocktail on the Magic Carpet, a tennis court-sized platform suspended from the side of the ship with uninterrupted ocean views.

You’ll find a wide choice of bars and restaurants on board. Enjoy healthy smoothies at the Spa Café, and made-to-order burgers at the al-fresco Mast Grill. Enjoy French classics at Le Grand Bistro and delectable sushi. Entertainment ranges from mixology classes to dazzling theater shows, comedy, quizzes, and live music.

Elevate your experience to The Retreat and you’ll enjoy accommodation in a sumptuous suite, an exclusive sunbathing deck and lounge, as well as dining in Luminae at The Retreat.

What should I pack?

You’ll be sailing through the tropics on your transpacific cruise, so bring plenty of beachwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, coverups, snorkel gear, and reef-friendly sunblock. Bear in mind that if you’re sailing to, for example, New Zealand in the early spring (October) or the fall (April), you will need something for slightly cooler weather, as well as a light waterproof jacket.

Throughout the ship, casual resort wear, sundresses, shorts, polos, or button-downs are appropriate, paired with sandals, low heels, and loafers. In main and specialty dining, we ask guests to refrain from wearing swimsuits, see-through coverups or robes, bare feet, tank tops, T-shirts, and baseball caps.

Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jeans with a stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip-flops are not considered Smart Casual.

Each itinerary features one to two more “formal” nights that we call Evening Chic. Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a cocktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jeans, an elegant dress top, or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening. If you do not wish to participate in Evening Chic, Smart Casual attire is acceptable for dining and attending the theater.

Where do these cruises depart from?

Our transpacific cruises depart from either Sydney, Australia, or Honolulu, Hawaii.

What are the typical ports of call?

Ports of call on a transpacific cruise might include Auckland and the beautiful Bay of Islands in New Zealand. Depending on the itinerary you’ve chosen, you may have several stops in French Polynesia, including Papeete, Moorea, and Raiatea.

Other itineraries head to Fiji, Vanuatu, and Samoa for exquisite beaches and the rich local culture. Many also include an overnight stay in Honolulu or a day at Kailua Kona. On any of our transpacific itineraries, you’ll have nine or 10 days at sea to enjoy the ship and the tropical sunshine.

Transatlantic & transpacific cruises.

Reposition your view of paradise with a transatlantic or transpacific cruise.

Have you ever thought of traversing an entire ocean from coast to coast? You can go further than you ever thought possible on a transatlantic cruise, crossing the waves between the U.S. and Europe. Departing from Florida, Barcelona, Southampton and Copenhagen, these cruises include both tropical and cultural island stops, in ports such as the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Greenland and Iceland. Meanwhile, transpacific cruises go from Sydney to the U.S., with plenty of white-sand-beach-filled South Pacific ports in between. Take in sweeping views of the Pacific while stopping in exotic ports to see the secluded beaches of Vanuatu or the volcanic vistas of Hawaii.

Snorkeling is a popular activity in island ports across the world. In the South Pacific, many islands are surrounded by fringing reef as well, which is a haven for tropical marine life such as dolphins, squid and sea turtles.

BE A BEACH BUM

Make the most of island ports on a transpacific cruise and enjoy some beach time. Lounge in the white sand and turquoise waters of  Mystery Island in Vanuatu . Enjoy the combo of urban and volcanic views at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu.

JUMP ONBOARD

With so many days at sea, take advantage of the ship's many activities and attractions, including spa treatments, rock climbing, ice skating, musical performances and Casino Royale.

SAIL THE SEAS AND SEE CROSS-CONTINENTAL CULTURES

Transpacific and transatlantic cruises offer plenty of relaxing days at sea, plus exciting stops at idyllic, beach-filled islands and cities bustling with life and culture.

IN AWE OF THE ATLANTIC

Starting in Florida,  New York  or one of several European ports, a transatlantic cruise may include several city stops, Caribbean ports or a combination of both.

PREPARE FOR THE PACIFIC

From Sydney to either  Honolulu  or Seattle, be prepared to cross hemispheres and visit the best (and most beautiful) South Pacific islands.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO The Best Time to Cruise

For transatlantic cruises, the best time to set sail is either spring and fall, when the weather is still warm but prices are more affordable. However, transpacific cruises are recommended during the Southern Hemisphere's winter, from May to October. This is because summer is the South Pacific's cyclone season.

Remember to pack for all weather conditions, as you will have warm summery port days, as well as cooler nights at sea. On transpacific cruises, you'll also cross hemispheres, so may need clothing for summer and winter conditions if cruising from  Sydney  to  Seattle

Europe: 8 Bucket-List Spots You Can See on a Cruise

Although most Pacific and Caribbean islands have different currencies, many ports accept Australian or American dollars, and larger cities will also accept credit cards.

Consider bringing your own snorkeling equipment and reef boots to save on rental fees, if you're planning on snorkeling at multiple destinations.

With so many days at sea, try something new onboard, but also bring your own entertainment — whether that's an e-reader or a good book.

FOR THE FOODIE'S CROSS-COUNTRY CUISINES

From Australia to the Azores, transatlantic and transpacific cruises expose you to several cuisines, including Caribbean, American and Pacific Islander. From fast-food favorites to rice-based comfort food, here are a few must-try foods.

Meat Pies from Australia

AUSSIE MEAT PIES

Found in bakeries and convenience stores, Australians love their savory meat pies. Visit the iconic Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Sydney and tuck into one of their flaky pies filled with curried beef or chicken with a side of classic mushy peas.

Traditional Lunch from Hawaii

PILE UP YOUR PLATE

Plate lunches are very popular in Hawaii, and traditionally feature scoops of white rice, macaroni salad and a meat-based entree like succulent kalua pig or a lau lau pork, with a smoky taste from its preparation in an underground oven.

Traditional Cuban Sandwich from Florida

FLORIDIAN FOOD

Tuck into some popular Floridian dishes before your transatlantic cruise departs. Savor a salty, satisfying Cuban sandwich piled high with pork and pickles. Try a Bahamian-inspired conch fritter, and key lime pie for dessert.

Related Ports

In the South Pacific, paradisal ports include Vanuatu, Fiji, French Polynesia and New Caledonia. In the Caribbean, choose from ports like the Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti and Antigua. Or spend more time in the great cities of Europe: Pop from Amsterdam over to the fjords of Norway or the natural volcanic spas of Reykjavik, Iceland.

From Tom Cruise breakdancing to Spice Girls reuniting, reports from Victoria Beckham's bash capture imagination

transpacific cruise celebrity

Tom Cruise breakdancing, a Spice Girls reunion and tons of A-list celebrities gathering in one location have social media and the general public in awe over Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday party.

Beckham, who celebrated half a century over the weekend, posted about the luxurious soiree Sunday on Instagram.

But some of the most buzzworthy moments went intentionally unrecorded.

"I don’t think I’ve ever felt as loved as I did last night," Beckham's post said. "Thank you all for coming from near and so far!! X"

In the post, Beckham shared pictures of her with actor Eva Longoria, celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay, her husband, soccer star David Beckham and some of the couple's children.

In another Instagram post, Beckham shared a picture of her and the four other members of the English pop group, the Spice Girls.

"The best gift to be reunited!! Thank you to all my friends and family for celebrating with me. Kisses! xxx," Beckham's post about the Spice Girls said.

Guests 'absolutely dumbfounded' by Tom Cruise's dancing, reports say

Not included in either post were other famous attendees who came to celebrate with the Beckhams at Oswald’s, a private member’s club owned by Robin Birley in London's Mayfair district.

Oswald's is strict about taking photos and allowing social media within the venue , according to the club's member's privacy notice.

Actors Tom Cruise and Salma Hayek both made an appearance at Beckham's party and while one left an impression with their outfit, the other left it all on the dance floor, the Daily Mail reported.

Cruise, who turned 61 in July 2023, stunned guests when he began demonstrating "a series of breakdancing moves, culminating in splits," the outlet said.

"People were absolutely dumbfounded," one guest told the Daily Mail.

Social media reacts to Tom Cruise's 'split mania' and not receiving an invite to Victoria Beckham's party

While no photos or videos of Cruise dancing exist online, social media users continue to poke fun at the expense of the "Mission Impossible" movie star. An X user who goes by @Douggernaut_2 posted a clip of actor Mike Myers dancing in the film "Austin Powers" and said, "Tom Cruise arriving at Victoria Beckham's bday."

Several social media users hearkened back to when Cruise played the Les Grossman character in the 2008 comedy movie "Tropic Thunder." Cruise would hilariously reprise the character during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and dance to rapper Ludacris' song "Get Back."

"Remember when Tom Cruise did this," X user @charletty_ said Monday in a post reacting to the video of Cruise's full dance routine at the awards show.

During the routine with singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, Cruise does a split on stage. X user @danilo_parks said Monday in a post, "It's real Tom Cruise does the splits mania out there today."

In addition to seeing Cruise do splits and the Spice Girls perform, guests also received goody bags full of Beckham's branded products, including a candle and a fragrance, the Telegraph reported.

All the fun has people wondering where their invite was to Beckham's birthday party, including X user @StaceyVaselaney who said, "I’m sitting here shaking my head wondering why wasn’t I invited to Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party."
