Best Time To Visit Coron

Where to stay in coron, coron itinerary, day 1 itinerary in coron, day 2 itinerary in coron, coron itinerary: day 3 and beyond, staying safe in coron, day trips from coron, faq on coron itinerary.

When planning a trip to Coron, it’s paramount that you know what to expect from each month so you can make an informed decision about when you want to go. Coron is one of those places that does have some weather extremes, so you will find a big difference between each season.

There are mainly two big seasons in Coron, each that need to be considered when considering to visit Coron. First, there is the rainy season, which is from mid-June to September. This is when Coron’s  skies  open up the heavens, a lot of places are closed, and it may be unpleasant to visit! However, if you do go during this season, there are obviously dry days when you can do some exploring.

tour guide script in coron palawan

The second is the dry season, this season runs from October to mid-June. This is a more ideal time to visit, as the sun is out and shining! The heat can get extreme, but there are plenty of places for you to cool off and escape from the sun, so it’s fantastic. You won’t be in for much rain at all during this season, and days are consistently hot.

You can expect Typhoons from June to October, so if you plan on doing a lot of boat trips, this won’t be the best time to visit. They don’t usually hit Coron directly, but it does affect the tides.

Ultimately, the most relaxed time to visit is in the dry season, but if you do go during the rainy season, you can still have fun!

Coron offers an endless amount of laid-back, exquisite places for you to stay. No matter which area in Coron you pick , you are bound to feel like a new person by the time you leave. We will share with you some of our favorite places to stay in Coron, so you have a better lay of the land on your Coron itinerary.

Coron Town Centre is a place booming with the local atmosphere. You may not see it at first glance, but this place is wonderful! You will be able to take part in the local markets, and you can enjoy what it feels like to be surrounded by the authentic life of the islanders. This is also the best place to stay if you’re wanting to eat your way through Coron, as there is every type of Filipino meal served here.

The West Coast of Busuanga Island is a wonderful place to stay! Busuanga is Coron’s main island and offers plenty for everyone. It’s easy to get to and from this area and navigate around Coron from here. You will be right on the coast and able to enjoy astounding views and magnificent sandy shores daily. The island vibe is contagious in Busuanga!

The North Coast of Busuanga is also a popular spot to stay! As it is still part of Coron’s main island, it is very close to all of the major attractions and beaches. However, you will feel a sense of tranquility here, as it’s not as bustling as the other places on the island. Enjoy a secluded destination that you can recluse back to after a day out in Coron!

We will share everything you need to know about the best way to get around on this Coron Itinerary! You will need to know which options work the best, so that you can effortlessly get to where you need to go.

One of the best and most obvious ways to get around is via boat. You will find docks and harbors on every major island in Coron bay. These can vary in cost, but most are quite affordable. It’s the boats that take you to the big sites that can start to cost a lot, but then it is very much worth the extra buck.

You can also consider flying, as there are some airports dotted around Coron. This is not as expensive as it sounds, and it is a fun alternative to boats if you struggle with sea sickness. Coron’s main island, Busuanga, has a wonderful airport!

tour guide script in coron palawan

Habal-Habals are the best way to quickly get from A to B on land! They also offer you the chance to experience the Philippine’s signature traveling modes, something that has started since the boom of tourism. These are very cheap, and often the local driving you has a fantastic idea of where all the best places are and can take you to some more off-the-beaten-track destinations.

Walking in Coron is wonderful, but it isn’t the best way to get around. Taking a few strolls or walking between bars is one thing, but facing the beating sun during the day on a long-distance walk is not going to be pleasant.

Lastly, you can rent a bike. This is the best way for those of you traveling in pairs or alone. You can choose your timing and feel free as you explore the many winding routes of Coron!

The locals of Coron are so confident about the truly entrancing beauty of their homeland that they have gone to the lengths of building a super cool Hollywood-style sign at the top of Mount Tapyas to show to everyone that they are in Coron. This giant sign has become a symbol of the town’s ever growing tourism industry, and it celebrates the magic that Coron brings into the world of travelers from all over the world.

tour guide script in coron palawan

The waters of Kayangan Lake are said to be the cleanest and clearest in the entire Philippines! Right from the moment you see this lake, you can feel why it is so special to locals and tourists alike. The turquoise water is clear as day, and you can see the fish swimming about through the surface as you take a dip!

  • Cost: Free! You will have to hire a boat and snorkeling equipment though.
  • Food Recommendation: Enjoy a classy setting with magnificent food at Ricardo’s Island! This restaurant is especially family-friendly, and the staff are wonderful.

The Lusong Coral Garden is a hidden gem in Coron that most tourists miss on their visits, making it appealing to those seeking more off-the-beaten-path kinds of sites. This coral garden has a huge history and has been named after the Lusong Shipwreck. This ship used to be a WWII vessel, and it is now an amazing dive and snorkel site for everyone to enjoy in Coron!

The Lusong Coral Garden has become over time one of the top-rated reefs in Coron, and it is only lightly visited due to its location. In comparison to the popular lagoons and beaches of Coron Island, this site is a bit more complicated to reach. You will need to hire out a boat with a guide who knows where to go, but once you get there, it is a true ocean haven!

Two people taking a selfie whilst scuba diving.

The coral garden is an unbelievable spot for freediving, snorkeling, swimming and even just relaxing by to admire the shipwreck from the surface of the waters. You can also gaze around you at sheer drop-offs of the Lusong Coral Garden’s limestone cliffs! If you visit here, be sure to protect our waters by practicing good coral etiquette .

Insider Tip: This site is best enjoyed with an underwater camera! You will want to capture the sites of much tropical fish darting about on the abandoned ship that is now covered in coral and barnacles.

  • Why it’s awesome: A secluded area to catch a breath and enjoy Coron!
  • Cost: USD $2 per person
  • Food Recommendation: The beach has a simple eatery where you can get a quick meal and a sweet cool drink to wash it down with.

This lazy beach is a must-see place on our Coron itinerary, and it is a great place to reminisce about your journey and take a break from the crowds. The super laid-back atmosphere is welcome after a day of adventure! Chilling out on the benches and having a cool drink here is a wonderful way to sightsee in Coron with minimal effort, so you can rejuvenate before the next stop.

The ocean water in this open, wide beach, is just the right temperature and depth for frolicking! You can mess around with friends, and even play with some of the local kids in a game of soccer. The water is very clear, so you won’t be able to resist the urge to take a dip, and you can even do a quick kayaking excursion whilst you are here.

tour guide script in coron palawan

Another activity to do at Atwayan Beach is snorkeling! You will find some of the most beautiful corals on the left-hand side of the beach, but don’t expect to see many fish. The ones you do spot will be relatively large and territorial.

Atwayan Beach may not be the most beautiful white sand beach on this itinerary for Coron, but it really is the most unique and perfect spot for a short nap, a swim in the water and a few drinks.  There’s also a rad beach volleyball court if you feel up for a game!

Day 2 / Stop 4 – Concepcion Falls

  • Why it’s awesome: A chance to see more of Coron than the pristine beachscapes!
  • Food Recommendation: K-Sarap Express has a unique atmosphere where you can truly relax, and their food is fantastic!

Most people when they travel to Coron assume that all there is worth seeing on the island is it’s famous lagoons, lakes, beaches and islands. While these certainly are a highlight, Coron offers so much more than that if you’re willing to try out the less touristy spots.

For a more unusual, sort of off-the-grid experience, the Conception Falls is the best! You can breathe in the fresh island air, walk through densely vegetated ecosystems and find yourself in the heart of a jungle! This magnificent place is spotted on the west of Busuanga Island, and it’s cheap to hop on a habal-habal and reach it.

Concepcion Falls

The falls are a secluded gem! You won’t find huge crowds, and you can enjoy serenity in one of the most beautiful places to visit in Coron. This stunning little oasis has a waterfall that will take your breath away! It pours out into a beautiful large green-blue waterhole that is surrounded by rich, tropical jungle leaves and plants. There are also small spurts of the waterfall that trickle down from the cliff walls.

Insider Tip: The gorgeous waterfall runs downstream into Conception Town, so you can even enjoy rapid floating if you get tired of freediving into the picturesque clear waters!

Day 2 / Stop 5 – Banol Beach

  • Why it’s awesome: This beach has distinctive limestone rocks and beautiful coral gardens!
  • Food Recommendation: La Sirenetta Seafood Restaurant & Bar is a stylish place to enjoy dinner that tastes like it was just fished out from the ocean! Enjoy the last night of your 2 day itinerary for Coron and indulge in a few fun cocktails.

Banol Beach is one of the most popular and fun beaches on Coron Island. This beachscape is teeming with natural wonders, both underwater and on the sandy shores that truly enchant tourists!

tour guide script in coron palawan

You will find this beach situated in the northwestern part of Coron Island, just waiting to welcome you with open arms. Banol Beach’s most distinctive characteristics are its limestone walls, and diverse, colorful coral garden!

You can enjoy sunbathing and watch as the sun sets over the tropical horizon! Watch as the golden rays light up the underwater paradise and the fish begin to sparkle with life just before the sun goes down. Enjoy the last few moments of your unforgettable journey on this Coron trip itinerary!

  • A secluded paradise.
  • One of the many beautiful islands of the Calamine Islands !

Travel along the wispy ocean seas of Coron and find yourself at the immaculate, white sand shores of Bulog Dos Island! This short stretch of beach is magnificent and will blow you away with its dreamlike beauty. The ocean waters are clear-aquamarine and make the bays of this beach looks as though it is a massive aquarium. You must visit here while backpacking through the Philippines.

tour guide script in coron palawan

You will see a variety of colorful fish, squid, starfish, sting rays, and even turtles (if you are lucky) on the long snaking sandbar. These marine animals are not shy and will sometimes come to swim right next to you or around you. You can enjoy expansive views of the open seas, and feel the calmness of the island’s lazy ocean.

What makes this island truly stand out from the rest is it’s impressive and stunning rock formations. These rocks add to the atmosphere and make for remarkable photos . You can also discover coral reefs, just past the layer of seagrass from the shore.

Malcapuya Island

  • One of the largest Calamine islands with very little population!
  • Known for several Japanese shipwrecks that have occurred in its waters.
  • A must-see island adventure just waiting to welcome you!

A short 20-minute boat ride from the shores of Coron, awaits the Malcapuya Island! This island has an entrancing, mysterious skyline that will captivate you. The entire island is full of exotic plants, animals, and thick jungle for you to spend hours exploring.

The entire island of Coron makes up a home to the ancestral indigenous tribe, the Tagbanua. These people have a passion for living in harmony with nature, and are primarily fishers and gatherers of surprisingly lucrative bilinsasayaw (birds nests).

tour guide script in coron palawan

Due to this tribe’s concern about how tourism could affect their land, they have marked off selected areas that are open for tourists to enjoy. That’s why it’s so rewarding to make trips to the nearby islands, like Malcapuya island!

This island offers a truly tranquil experience to all travelers, and is a great place to enjoy the beauty of an authentic, untouched island.

Chindonan Island

  • A beautiful island in Coron Bay!
  • Has drinkable, fresh water.
  • Incredibly popular hot spot for tourists.

Not far from Coron awaits the Chindonan Island! This island is a true island dream come true with everything you could imagine on a tropical platter. Due to this island’s clean drinking water, it is more habitable than other islands and has a lot more going on.

You can find remarkable resorts on this island, so staying a night here is a great idea! That way, you can also partake in a nighttime party and watch the sunset over the island’s beautiful white sand beach.

During the day, there is plenty to see and do on this island other than mingle and enjoy resorts! You will find a bunch of breathtaking tropical forests, with many varieties of birds swinging in the trees. If you venture with a guide, you can be taken to some of the island’s notorious water springs! This island adventure is a must one our 3-day itinerary for Coron.

Bayside Plaza

  • A sweet chill spot in Coron!
  • Free entrance.
  • Situated right by the Coron harbour.

One of the most unique gems on our Coron itinerary is a visit to the Bayside Plaza. This is one of those activities that won’t take long but it still well worth doing. This plaza is found by the Coron harbor, making it easy to quickly shoot off to after returning from one of your day trips from Coron. There is a place close-by to also grab a bite to eat and relax afterward.

tour guide script in coron palawan

The Bayside Plaza offers striking views over the famously scenic coastline of Coron! Coron’s coastline is dotted with the most enigmatic, picturesque islands, and you can see most of them in the vast ocean horizon from the Bayside Plaza.

There aren’t that many lookout spots in Coron, because it is a mostly flat landscape. So, finding one such as the Bayside Plaza makes it magical and such a treat. You can sit back on a bench, take snap shots and marvel at the sunrise or sunset from this serene spot.

Skeleton Wreck

  • A site full of historical significance!
  • If you’re a strong swimmer, you can simply swim out to this spot.
  • Best viewed during low tide.

Coron has a seabed that is thriving with marine life, but it is also famous for being the graveyard more than a handful of shipwrecks. Some of these ships were Japanese, and the shipwrecks date back from World War II. Everyone feels a sense of eeriness around these shipwrecks, as the war affected the entire world. You can now visit some of these sunken ships on the bays of Coron, at Skeleton Wreck.

Among all of these sunken warships, the skeleton wreck is the most easy to reach from Coron. This mysterious warship site is located just a hundred meters from the shores of Atwayan Beach. You can make a day of visiting this and enjoy lazing out on the relaxed beach.

tour guide script in coron palawan

Some people opt to just swim from the coastline, but you can hire out a boat and ride the waves. It’s a very quick trip via boat. The best time to make this journey is during low tide. This makes it all the more amazing, because this is when the wreck is so near the surface of the water that the feet can easily touch the edge of the ship, allowing for a more intimate experience.

Most people when traveling to a new place- especially in Southeast Asia- will feel a bit scared and not know what to expect. One thing you can know for sure is that Coron is typically very safe. It’s one of the aspects of this truly special place that makes it so welcoming, spirited, and an absolute blast to visit!

You will meet tons of friendly Filipinos, all willing to help with the odd apple falling off the cart now and again. The only major things to watch out for is bag-snatching and pick-pocketing. This can happen at all times, so be vigilant. That being said, it’s not likely to happen. You can walk around looking like a sore thumb of a tourist, and not feel threatened.

Women who choose to travel to Coron alone should just keep in mind general safety tips. Things like don’t walk around at night on your own, and don’t leave your dink unattended. One of the more dangerous types of people in Coron are more likely to be the other foreigners and not the locals, so just use your intuition when meeting new faces.

If you’re ever feeling uneasy, it’s simple to contact the police and ask for escorts, or for them to simply check things out for you. You won’t experience this, but it is good to know that they are willing to help all tourists and be at hand if need be.

On a side note, when it comes to paying for your habal-habal ride, try to have a general idea of how long your trip is. Sometimes, the poorer drivers will try to scam tourists and change you way more than necessary, simply because they can. If you know how long a trip should take you, or the general route, don’t let them take you the long way!

3-DAY CORON ITINERARY

This blog post details how to make the most of your time in Palawan, Philippines with a detailed Coron itinerary. The main attraction in Coron are the island hopping tours. Before we get into the itinerary, I’m going to share the most popular options below. I hope you actually end up staying for a week because there are so many awesome things to do in Coron.

  • From Coron Town, embark on the renowned Coron Island Hopping & Snorkeling Tour , visiting highlights like Pass Island and Lusong Gunboat Shipwreck. Classic tours feature must-visits like Kayangan and Barracuda Lake.
  • The 4-day, 3-Night  Big Dream Boat Man Island Hopping Trip offers a unique multi-day experience. This tour prioritizes early visits to popular spots like Kayangan Lake and Twin Lagoon to beat the crowds, then shifts to lesser-known jewels, allowing for activities like free-diving at WWII shipwrecks and camping on remote beaches.

HOW TO GET TO CORON

Coron has an airport that more or less every single visitor comes in via. However, there is another option these days which is three-night island hopping journey from El Nido with Big Dream Boat Man that combines transit with adventure as you camp at islands along the way and explore during the day while making your way from El Nido. You can visit their website to look at the trips they currently have on offer.

However, most people do fly in with daily flights coming from Manila and Cebu . The airport is about 30-minutes from Coron Town where you will find your accommodation. The transport from the airport is a fixed rate and shared in a van with other tourists at $3 unless you pay for a private taxi. It is quite a fair and well-organized system where you won’t have to barter or get ripped off.

Okay, let’s get into this Coron Itinerary starting with your first day in Coron.

CORON ITINERARY: DAY 1

Most people who visit Coron come for the epic island-hopping, SO it is best to get to that on your first day. Both TOUR A and TOUR B are equally epic with free-diving, snorkeling, and incredible lagoons of Coron Island. Both tours also include a seafood banquet lunch to eat on a beautiful island. I’ll give you a quick overview of what each tour includes. There is no ‘better’ or ‘worse’ tour, they are just simply to different snorkeling spots and beaches.

  • Tour A : Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda Lake, Coral Garden Snorkel, Cyc Beach, Lunch
  • Tour B : Skeleton Wreck, Barracuda Lake, Twin Lagoon, Lunch
  • Tour C : Malcapuya Island, Banana Island, Bulog Dos Island, Lunch
  • Tour D : Pass Island, Lusong Gunboat Snorkel, Lusong Coral Garden, Lunch

In this 3-day Coron itinerary, I will suggest doing either Tour A or Tour B and then on the other day to do either Tour C or Tour D . Tour A and B are quite similair so don’t do both of them rather choosing C or D for your second day of island hoppping. I’ve done all four and they were all great but I will detail them below.

Here is a brief overview of what you can expect on TOUR A and TOUR B .

KAYANGAN LAKE

Kayangan Lake is by far the most popular spot on Coron Island and for good reason. You cruise into the ‘parking lot’, which in itself is an immaculate reef with crystal clear water.

After parking the boat you take a short hike up the stairs to the viewpoint before clambering down the other side to reach the famous Kayangan Lake. It’s a crystal clear freshwater lake with unbelievable underwater rock formations. It’s easily one of my favorite free-dive spots in the world. Make sure you head over the left side of the lake for the epic free-dive location. Kayangan Lake is part of Tour A .

TWIN LAGOON

Twin Lagoon in Coron, Palawan, stands as one of the most mesmerizing natural wonders in the Philippines. Nestled amidst towering karst cliffs, this pair of tranquil blue-green lagoons is connected by a narrow limestone passage, with one half hidden beneath the rocks, accessible only during low tide or by a short ladder climb. The unique mix of cold freshwater and warm saltwater in the lagoon offers a refreshing experience, making it a must-visit for every traveler seeking the untouched beauty of Coron. Twin Lagoon is part of Tour A .

CORAL GARDEN

The Coral Garden is a beautiful snorkel spot after the lagoons. Expect crystal clear waters, colorful corals, plentiful fish and a beuatifull backdrop of limestone cliffs. Coral Garden is part of Tour A .

BEACH LUNCH

The great part about every tour is that the team always cooks an amazing bbq and seafood lunch for the guests. It’s truly a feast in paradise with a great spread of food on a small bungalow on a white sand beach. The beach lunch is part of Tour A .

After your first day of island-hopping, you will return to the town around 4 pm. If you are up for an adventure head up the steep incline to the best viewpoint in Coron.

HIKE THE STAIRS TO MT TAPYAS FOR SUNSET

Mount Tapyas is the most popular viewpoint in Coron Town , Busuanga, with sweeping views over the rolling hills and a direct look towards the epic Coron Island in Palawan. The view doesn’t come easy though, to reach the giant cross at the summit, you need to climb 721 steps. In the piercing sun of Coron, this is a challenge that leaves many drenched in sweat and gasping for breath once they reach the top.

For some, the 721 steps will be a walk in the park. However, for those who aren’t very active, you may battle through the incline and the sun.

  • Coron Land Tour : Get to know Coron! Visit Mt Tapyas viewing deck, Maquinit Hot Spring and important sites around town. Great for a day off from snorkeling and island hopping.

3 BEST PLACES TO STAY IN CORON

an aerial view of a resort in the middle of the ocean.

  • Best Location: Two Seasons Coron Island Resort – Incredible Island Bungalows
  • Where I stayed : Outpost Hostel – Central location, great hostel vibes.
  • All-Round Resort: Sunlight Eco Resort – Great beachfront location & activities.

CORON ITINERARY: DAY 2

On day two you will head out for some epic snorkeling at some of the shipwrecks and at Barracuda Lake, one of my favorite free-diving spots in Coron. All of this will be done for a cheap price on Tour B .

Tour B : Includes Barracuda Lake, Banol Beach, Snorkel at Skeleton Wreck

SKELETON WRECK

Skeleton Wreck is a 25m long Japanese supply ship that was hit by an airstrike during WWII by US airforce. The ship now rests at a depth of 5m ranging to 22m at the deepest. It is an awesome spot for free-diving or scuba diving as well as snorkeling on the surface. Skeleton Wreck is part of Tour B .

BARRACUDA LAKE

Barracuda Lake feels like a dream world. The entrance to the lake leads you along a path that winds through jagged rocks that look straight out of a movie before they reveal the beautiful, expansive Barracuda Lake. The lake is huge but swimmers enjoy an enclosed area of free-diving paradise in the deep waters. Underwater cliffs will blow your mind as you snorkel or free dive in this fresh-water lake in Coron Island. Barracuda Lake is part of Tour B .

tour guide script in coron palawan

On the second night in Coron you again have another optional adventure depending on your energy levels. This one isn’t as hard as the Mt Tapyas hike.

RELAX AT THE MAQUINIT HOT SPRINGS

Only a 20-minute drive from Coron town in a tricycle is a hot spring oasis in the mountains. Amazingly the hot spring also has a view of the ocean and it is a salt-water hot spring. The sunset was beautiful and lit the sky up with deep pinks and purples.

I enjoyed it too much to get my camera out quick enough but this is what the hot springs look like. It is busy but there is enough space for everyone to chill around the edge. Sometimes I prefer places to be empty but the  Maquinit Hot Spring  had a really chill vibe with everyone enjoying their bath under the stars.

CORON ITINERARY: DAY 3

It’s your third day on Coron and now I suggest getting a little adventurous because by now, you have seen most of Coron Island on the regular tours A and B. Pick either Tour C or D and go on a bit of a boat journey to some more off-beat locations. There will still be tourists around but it will definitely be more low key. Tour D, in particular, is very low key with shipwrecks, freediving, and snorkeling while Tour C is all about beaches and sandbars.

That wraps up the best way to spend a 3-day Itinerary in Coron. I hope you found that breakdown of all the popular spots helpful. Remember, if you do have three to our days, I highly recommend looking into the 4-day, 3-Night  Big Dream Boat Man Island Hopping Trip .

BIG DREAM BOAT MAN ISLAND HOPPING TRIP

Big Dream Boat Man is a locally owned tour company that offers THE BEST island-hopping experience in Coron on their private 3-day, 4-night trip throughout the islands nearby Coron.

a boat is sitting in the water on the beach.

Reasons to book with Big Dream Boat Man

  • Skip the crowds: Visit popular spots like Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake and Lusong gunboat BEFORE the crowds arrive.
  • Secluded Spots: Visit islands that the daytrippers can’t reach.
  • Sunrise & Sunset: Stay overnight at secluded islands in cabins and tents on the beach. Enjoy bonfires, drinks and a fun atmosphere.

3 POPULAR CORON TOURS

  • Coron Island Hopping Trip : The iconic boat trip to amazing Kayangan Lake & Barracuda Lake. Best value and most popular
  • Snorkeling, Shipwrecks, Private Islands (Island Hopping D) : Pass Island, Lusong Gunboat Shipwreck Snorkel & Coral Gardens. This is my favorite island hopping in Coron and is the snorkeling paradise & active tour.

I only recommend tours with Guide To The Philippines , who are a locally owned company and the most RELIABLE & PROFESSIONAL in Coron with small group sizes.

PLANNING A CORON ITINERARY: BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Coron, Palawan, hinges largely on the region’s tropical climate, which features a pronounced dry season and a rainy season. Typically, the months between November and May are considered ideal, with December to March being the peak tourist season due to cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall. This period witnesses clear blue skies and calm seas, perfect for island hopping, snorkeling, and diving excursions.

Conversely, the rainy season, spanning from June to October, brings with it heavier rainfalls and a higher chance of typhoons. However, travelers who prefer a less crowded ambiance and are willing to navigate occasional showers might still find this off-peak season appealing, especially with accommodations often being more affordable.

What's night life like in Coron? Are there bars/clubs around town similar to that of Siargao?

Thursday 12th of March 2020

It's not anything like Siargao. There are some bars and a few places you can dance to a DJ but nothing to write home about.

Tuesday 28th of January 2020

HELLO, ANY RESTAURANTS YOU WANT TO SUGGEST IN CORON?

Not really. I just eat for adventure fuel. Not a good person to ask for food reccomendations haha

Friday 24th of January 2020

Hello. Thanks for the Guide! I got a Q. Are A B C etc tours the same as the ones in El Nido? Do they take you to the same places? Or completely different?

It is yes like El Nido. Each letter is a new day of different adventures.

Saturday 23rd of November 2019

Hi Jackson I really enjoyed reading some of your blogs tonight and would love your advise. We fly in and out of Coron 25 Jan , back 7 feb, family of 4 with a 12 and 10 year old who love water. My 12 year old and her Dad are padi certified and i prefer relaxing on the beach getting some Mum time, after some good exercise! Can you recommend the bits we MUST see as we need some down time but obviously want to see islands, stay on them, have an amazing experience, BUT not be surrounded by hundreds of people doing the same and big party boats (sadly those days have gone!) I originally had a provisional booking for glamping on Nacpan island 27-31 jan (that was our big treat as its not cheap), but wondered if we need to see much more of El Nido, or just boat back towards Coron from there with maybe 5-6 nights left to really see some sight on a tours. I have been recommended a tour guide a friend used, but as you seem to know the area so well, i would value your opinion. Or do we base ourselves in Coron and have more than enough to see in 2 weeks- is Nacpan really that incredible etc? I'd like my daughter and husband to scuba dive a good 2-3 times really so want to now where best to head or stay. Any advise would be awesome. Thanks so much. Your photos look amazing.

Sunday 24th of November 2019

Thanks so much. Coron is great for diving with lots of dive shops and many shipwrecks and plane wrecks to explore. There are lots of people at the main attractions in coron but not at all the dive sites . so its not too crazy. Nacpan is a beautiful beach but four days there is a long time. Not too much to do out there other than relax. I'd stay in El Nido or Lio Beach and do a day trip or just 1-2 nights at Nacpan.

Budget travel guide to Coron, Palawan

COMPLETE Travel Guide to Coron, Palawan + 5 Days Itinerary

Coron is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines and one of the top attractions in Palawan. It’s mostly famous for Kayangan Lake — which is said to be one of the cleanest lakes in Asia. Coron has numerous islands which you can explore through island hopping boat tours, lagoons, and WW2 shipwrecks that are popular among freedivers and scuba divers.

Solo travel to Coron, Palawan

For me, it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in the Philippines. In fact, for foreign travelers who plan to visit the country, it would be my topmost recommendation.

Aside from its beautiful nature attractions, another thing that I like about Coron is that it’s budget-friendly, even for solo travelers like me. Even though tour rates aren’t standardized yet, the rates for accommodation and tours are reasonable. I’m going to share several budget tips to Coron here with you!

The easiest way to get to Coron is by booking a flight to Busuanga Airport.

  • Take a local flight to Busuanga Airport. Cebu Pacific offers the cheapest year-round fares.
  • From Busuanga airport, there will be vans waiting that can take you to Coron (P150, 30-40 minutes). If you’re in a group, you can also hire the entire van (P1500). From the drop-off point, take a tricycle to get to your accommodation.
  • 2Go has weekly trips from Manila to Coron. The port is located in Pier 4 in Tondo, Manila. Travel time is 11 hours; fare is about P1400+ per person depending on how early you book and your ticket class. Book ferry tickets from Manila to Coron here .
  • From the Coron pier, walk for 15 minutes to the town proper or ride a tricycle.

There are ferries from El Nido to Coron. For regular ferry, travel time is 4 hours; fare is P1760. Book ferry tickets from El Nido to Coron here .

Things to know before you go

Here are some information about Coron, Palawan:

  • Coron is safeguarded by the indigenous tribe of Tagbanua. As such, some places are considered sacred and off limits.
  • Be respectful. Wear a coverup when walking on streets.
  • There are ATMs in Coron.
  • Most establishments accept cash only, but some resorts and establishments also accept major credit cards.

Drone shot in Coron, Palawan

As in most destinations in the Philippines, the best time to go here is during summer  where there is guaranteed good weather.

However, going during off-peak season has its perks too. You can avoid the huge summer crowd and even get discounted rates on rooms and tours. I love traveling during off-peak season for these reasons, moreso in Palawan which is rarely affected by the typhoon season. There might be cloudy skies or a bit of rain, but it doesn’t experience heavy rain as other places such as Manila .

Coron town proper is small so almost everything is walking distance. Alternatively, you may also ride tricycles for a minimum fee.

On the day of your flight departure, you can ask assistance from your hotel’s receptionist to schedule a van pickup to the airport since the vans follow a daily schedule.

Island hopping tours

Island hopping is the main activity offered in Coron. Each island hopping tour is different, but mainly you will get to see beaches, lakes particularly Kayangan Lake which is considered the cleanest lake in Asia, and snorkel in underwater coral areas and shipwrecks. During island hopping, you will also get to see the iconic photo in Coron: an islet surrounded by clear turquoise water that is the Coron Bay.

Each tour may differ depending on the agency, but joiner tours are generally the same in terms of places to visit. As said above, there are no standardized tours in Coron so rates may vary per agency.

Tour A is a great start for your island hopping experience. It takes you to several beaches and snorkeling areas, as well as the famous Kayangan Lake. If you like snorkeling, I suggest you explore the surrounding waters in CYC Beach. Most people stay on the shore, but it actually has one of the best underwater spots I’ve seen during my stay there.

  • Places to see : Las Islas de Coral, CYC Beach, Atwayan/Sunset beach, Quin Reef, Green Lagoon, Kayangan Lake
  • Book your tour via Klook

Twin Lagoon in Coron

This is a new tour which includes Malcapuya Island and other islands in Coron.

  • Places to see : Coco Beach, Waling-Waling Island, Malcapuya Island

This tour takes you to three beautiful islands in Coron. The islands are located a bit far compared to other island hopping stops (about 2 hours), so majority of your time will be spent on the boat ride. Again, if you like snorkeling, you will enjoy Banana Island with its giant clams and Malcapuya Island wits its big schools of fishes.

  • Places to see : Bulog Dos Island, Banana Island, Malcapuya Island

Malcapuya Island in Coron, Palawan

This is the best tour for those who enjoy snorkeling and freediving, as you will be taken to a vast coral garden (lazily named Coral Garden) where it’s possible to get sightings of sea turtles and the shipwreck sites. The shipwrecks can be seen even from the surface. This is a fun tour; my only complaint during my tour is that each stop is too short so there’s not much time to linger and enjoy the underwater scenes.

  • Places to see : East Tangat, Pass Island, Coral Garden, Lusong Gunboat
  • Rate : P1300 per person

Shipwreck in Pass Island, Coron

If you want to see the best island hopping spots in Coron in one tour, you can avail of the Coron Island Ultimate Tour. If you’ve already taken the rest of the tours, there’s no need to get this one.

  • Places to see : Siete Pecados, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Smith Beach, Skeleton Wreck, Las Islas de Coral, CYC Beach
  • Rate : P1500
  • Island hopping starts at at 9AM up to 4 or 5PM. If you’re availing of a joiner tour, make sure to get to the port early and keep track of time at all times so other joiners wouldn’t have to wait for you.
  • The tour includes lunch buffet and water.
  • Rental for snorkeling set and/or aqua shoes are not included (P150 each).

Other tours in Coron

If you want a little break from the sea, there are other tours in Coron you can avail.

As its name suggests, the highlight of this tour is the Calauit Safari . The safari is home to various endemic and imported wildlife, such as giraffes. It’s about 3 hours away from the town proper, and as such pickup is usually at around 4AM.

Other places to see may vary depending on the travel agency offering this tour. Others may include side trips to town attractions while others offer snorkeling sites to be visited along with Black Island.

  • Places to see : Calauit Safari Sanctuary, Isla Paraiso, Busuanga town proper, Malbato Church, (Optional) Black Island

Culion Tour is an underrated tour in Coron. It takes you to Culion, which was once a leper colony. Today, it’s a charming town with various historical landmarks.

  • Places to see : Culion Church and Forest, Aguila Viewpoint, Culion Museum and Archives, Bogor Marine Park.

If you have half a day, you can take a Coron town tour where you can buy souvenirs and take home cashew, which is one of the local products in Palawan. Other highlights include Maquinit Hot Spring, a natural hot spring within a mangrove  forest, and Mount Tapyas which is a favorite spot for island hopping.

The tour is also doable DIY as you only need to commute via tricycle to get to the destinations for minimum fare. If you’re going to Maquinit Hot Spring, a private tricycle costs P300 good for 4 people; the driver will wait for you. Entrance fee is P200 per person.

  • Places to see : Lualhati Park, cashew shop, souvenir shop, St. Augustine Church, Mount Tapyas and Maquinit Hot Spring

Culion in Palawan

This is a magical tour wherein you can see fireflies and bioluminiscent planktons. The tour starts at 6PM to 9PM, with buffet dinner.

  • Rate : P950 per pax

There are various travel agencies in Coron, Palawan. You can just walk around the Coron town proper and book for a tour, at least a day before. Regardless of your choice, I highly suggest that you give a tip to your boatman/guide especially if you’re happy with their service!

Here are your options:

  • Joiner tours . The easiest and most convenient option, whether you’re solo or with companion(s).
  • Private tours . If you’re in a group, you might want to get a private tour (i.e., per-person rate is the same as joiner tour, but it will be exclusive to your group) or you may find your a private boat to rent. If you choose the latter, take note that you will have to buy your own food in the market for cooking during the tour and pay the entrance fees, which are not included in the rental rate. The advantages of this is that it’s cheaper and you can dictate which places to go and which time, which is useful if you want to escape the crowds. Moreover, you can also stop over beach coves not included in the usual island hopping tours.

There are a number of restaurants in Coron where you can enjoy local delicacies and other cuisines. Here are the most recommended ones:

  • Kawayanan Grill . This restaurant offers reasonably priced seafood platters.
  • Santino’s Grill . A popular restaurant famous for their baby backribs
  • Sea Dive Restaurant or La Sirenetta . A great option especially for sunset viewing.

I recommend La Sirenetta which has good ambiance and food.

If you’re on a budget, there are carinderias in Coron where you can buy meals for around P100 per person.

Where to stay

The great thing about Coron is that it offers a range of accommodations, starting from budget-friendly fan rooms and dorms to mid-range resorts and even luxury island resorts.

Here are some accommodation highlights. You can also check out our separate article on the Best Resorts in Coron Palawan .

Here are some of the most recommended resorts and hotels in Coron:

  • Two Seasons Coron Island Resort and Spa . This is a 5-star luxury accommodation, considered one of the best in Coron. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Club Paradise Palawan . A private island resort with its own spa and pool. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Sunlight Ecotourism Island Resort . One of the most beautiful resorts in Coron, with luxurious water villas. Book discounted rooms here.

Club Paradise Resort in Coron, Palawan

Here are some of the recommended budget accommodations in Coron, Palawan:

  • Coron Westown Resort . A popular laid-back accommodation with outdoor pools. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Seahorse Guesthouse . This guesthouse offers dorm-type accommodation, with free breakfast. It has a rooftop area where you can eat and which features a nice view of the ocean. Book discounted rooms here .
  • Coron Paradise Bed & Breakfast . A good option if you want a private room in a budget, with free breakfast. It’s close to major establishments such as restaurants and souvenir shops. Book discounted rooms here.

I recommend staying at least 5-6 days in Coron. If you wish to maximize your time, you can avail of the Coron Ultimate Island Tour and other 1-2 island hopping tours and the rest exploring Calauit Safari or Cuyo Island. If you’re into diving as well, I suggest adding 2-3 days more to your itinerary.

Anyway, here’s a sample 5 days itinerary to Coron.

As island hopping tours normally start at 9AM, if you arrive in Busuanga Airport at 7:30AM or earlier, you still have time to drop your bag at your accommodation and join a tour.

Here are important budget tips so you can still enjoy Coron without breaking the bank!

  • Snorkel and aqua shoes rental are not included in island hopping tours, which are rented out at about P150 each. If you’re going to stay for a few days, it’s best to buy or bring your own equipment. I got my own snorkeling set for less than P1000 and I’ve used it in other locations besides Coron.
  • If you’re in a group, you may look at all-in tour packages. However, if you’re solo or in two’s, it’s cheaper to book the island hopping tours and accommodations separately. This advice was given to me by a travel agent when I inquired about rates.
  • It’s cheaper to do the Coron Town Tour on your own, as the attractions can be visited via commute with tricycles. This is especially true if you’re in a group.
  • For cheap eats, there are carinderias selling meals at about P100. Another favorite backpacker spot is the ihawans in the port area, where you can buy grilled chicken, pork and seafood for cheap.

Here are the current rates in Coron. These are per person rates.

Usually you only have to worry about dinner. Breakfast is often served complimentary in hotels and tours include lunch buffet.

For 5 days, a safe budget would be P9000-10,000 per person .

Hello Katherine! We will be going to Coron on Oct 21-25. We are 11 in a group but 8 persons will be leaving on the 3rd days, so unluckily 3 of us will remain. Can you give me some recommendations please. Should I book with the package tour including accommodation and land transfer or is it cheaper to have it separately?

Katherine Cortes

It depends on the package rate and inclusion. 🙂 You can compute naman saan kayo makakatipid.

Can I ask for the contact number of the tour package you availed. thanks po 🙂

Hi! Your blog inspired me to book a solo trip to Coron. Just a question though: how did you handle your phone & money while swimming? Did you leave them behind or bring them with you in the water?

Hi Aly! Good question. Hmm. Because I was on tours I just leave my bag on the boat ahahaha.

Hi Katherine, very helpful post. Thank you. We are planning to visit Coron in December 2019 for 4D3N. We will be 8-10 people (family)on a tight budget. How much should we save per person for all expenses including airfare and lodging? Thank you!

Hi Katherine! I read that you spent 8k on this trip. Did you go there via cebpac or 2go? Coz I’ve been checking out cheap flights and so far 7k is what I’ve seen. We’re going there for our cousin’s wedding in March next year. Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

7k RT is expensive. Try to wait for promos. Cebu Pac frequently holds them. 🙂

Thanks for the blog as I it really helps me picture out how to do my itinerary..Planning to visit Coron this September for our 5th Anniversary

Irene Arquero

Thank you so much i found your blog. Anyway will plano namin pupunta ng Coron sa First week ng January we have six peoples in the group from age 11 years old to 60 years old. Any recommendations From the beginning to the end of our trip? This is our first time.

Overall experience to Seahorse Guesthouse? I am considering this hotel for our family vacation in Coron.

Hi, the Seahorse Guesthouse has dorm rooms and fit for solo/couple backpackers. You might want to check other resorts if you’re coming with your family.

You can check for discounted rates via Agoda here – https://www.agoda.com/pages/agoda/default/DestinationSearchResult.aspx?cid=1779159&pcs=1&city=16185&hotelAccom=37&sort=agodaRecommended

Hi! Sorry if this had been asked, I tried searching past comments!

For booking your tours, did you pre-book all of them online or did you wait until you arrived to walk to their booth and then book them?

I actually just texted them a day before, if I remember correctly. But this was low season. During high season it’s recommended to pre-book.

Hi, Is it wise to go in July ?? It’s raining most of the days. Kindly advise !!!

Hi, will travel 2nd or 3rd week of Nov, do you suggest to look for travel packages in Coron or book prior? Thanks

I always find it prudent to book prior or at least do pencil reservation. 🙂

Hi! Im really glad i came across this blog, this is helpful, we’ll be in coron on the 31st of October to the 3rd of November and we’re booked at SeaHorseguest house (me,my hubby and our son) i want to know the most practical tour we can get since we’re traveling with our 12y/o kid. Thanks! And can we just book it with seahorse?

Hi. I happened to leave a comment in this post some few months ago, and since then i’m receiving notifs that I’m not even involved in. Ummm, how can I unsubcribe po? I need to know po sana. Thanks.

Hi Michelle, sorry abt that! Usually there’s an unsubscribe button in email notifications. Let me know if you’re still having problems.

Please don’t get me wrong, I love this blog & and it helped me a lot during my trip.. Maybe I only need to adjust notification settings. 🙂 Thank you po..

Hey, I‘m also heading to Coron as single traveler and I‘d like to do some of the tour packages you have mentioned in your blog. However, I cant find a link or name of the agency that provided exactly these Tour A etc. packages. Can you name it? Many thanks!!

We literally allotted a whole subsection for the travel agencies and even gave links for their pages. : )) I got the tours from JY Travel and Tours.

I was in Coron just last week, travelled solo as well. Booked my tour from Alherini Travel Services in facebook, and I must say, they are Legit, accomodating and very smooth to transact with. Hope that helps.

Hello! Do you know if still perfect to have a vacay during the month of oct. (this year)?

I’m not sure if it’s going to be “perfect.” 🙂 June-November is the rainy season so it really depends on the weather, but the good news is Palawan doesn’t really experience strong typhoons. You might still get a lil bit of rain here and there tho.

Hi! I’d like to ask for advice on how I can have a worthy vacation to Coron for 3D2N only. I want to travel solo and as much as possible not to join groups. Thank you so much!

Then you should hire your own private boat. 🙂 Afaik for packaged tours you’ll still be with other people, so this is probably the best choice.

Good day po! Meron po kayong idea if every anong oras bumabyahe ang van sa airport going to coron town proper?

We don’t know the timetable for the vans, but take note that Coron is a major attraction in Palawan and so with the influx of passengers, there are always public vans outside the airport. If unsure, you can always contact your resort/accommodation; they are affiliated with those doing airport transfers.

Hi Katherine we’re planning to go there with my partner. Is there any boat to rent in the pier area? I want to DIY my travel and i dont want to book tours. Which is more cheaper DIY or TOUR Agency?

Yep, you can go to the pier but I’m not sure about the availability during summer.

DIY or tour agency — it depends. If there are only 2 of you I’d go for joining a group tour instead.

Hi Duke. I recommend Jon for private boat in Coron. You can ask them how much is the rate. This is worth considering if you want to enjoy the place on your own and you can choose which tourists spots you can visit. Though you have to shoulder the entrance fees and you have to buy your own food in the market for cooking later on.

We hired JON, ARMAN, & STANLEY our boatmen/tourguide for 2 days island hopping. They’re helpful, kind and they made our Coron trip worth remembering ❤️

For private boat: ■JON(Boatman in Coron): +639955287803 +639218139568

For solo or couple travelers it’s more cheaper if you get a tour at local travel agency, you dont need to think about your food and entrance fees since it is included in the package.

Hi, I just want to ask. Is solo travelling to Coron safe? I want to assure my mom that it’s safe, or else she won’t allow me to go. And I already have tickets for April. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Yes. I’m wondering where your mom got the idea that it might not be safe. Coron is pretty well known even abroad.

Hi! I’m visiting Coron on april 30 to may 4 2018, i will traveling alone is it not really that bad? it will be my first solo travel. Will I still be able to enjoy the tours and have an overall great time?

It largely depends on you haha. But this was my first solo travel and I loved it. 🙂

Hi! I’m thinking of going to Coron this March, it will be 3D2N. Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Island and Maquinit Hot Spring are the places I want to visit. It would be my first time to travel alone. Just want to ask for help in planning my itinerary or how do I get there without joining tours.

You can rent a private boat if you don’t want to join tours. Maquinit hot spring can be reached via tricycle. 🙂 You can visit all those in ome day.

Hi! Nice blog, i enjoyed reading it. We will be travelling as a couple on Feb 27 to Mar 3. We plan to rent a private boat instead of joining a group. The cheapest rate provided to me is 3700/pax for the Coron Island Tour. And 4800/pax for the Malcapuya, banana and bulog beaches. Rates included all entrance fees, food, licensed tour guide. Do you think the rate is reasonable? Or i can find better deal once i arrive at Coron?

I think the price is reasonable because there are only two of you. You can also try looking for a travel agency/boat owners who’ll agree on a rate per boat (not per person) and see if it’ll be cheaper. Last time I was there boat rental is 2000-2500, entrance fees and lunch not included. Not sure if the rate is the same for the three beaches you mentioned because those are a bit far.

Hi! I’m visiting Coron on July 2018, so I’ll be expecting some rain 🙁 Given it rains, is it really that bad? Will I still be able to enjoy the tours and have an overall great time?

We love to travel during the rainy season because of fewer crowds, lower rates. 🙂 If it’s just a little bit of rain, you’re still good to go. But if there’s a strong typhoon, tours might get cancelled. In general though, Palawan rarely experiences strong typhoons as in other parts of the PH… so you’d be terribly unlucky to be stuck in one. Good luck!

Good day, Ask ko lng po if anu masuggest mo maam. Me and my cousins will be going this coming august, we are 4 in the group, is it ideal and cheaper if we will do DIY or avail a package for the whole tour? Thank you for your response

I think since there’s 4 of you it’s better to get a private boat (DIY). 🙂 It’s cheaper overall and you get to do your own itinerary.

Hi! Do travel tour agencies allow grouping solo travellers for private tours instead of letting them join with the group tours? This is to allow more flexibility on the itineraries instead of feeling rushed.

Yes. 🙂 You can rent a private boat if they offer it (with your own itinerary) or go on a private group tour (following their itinerary).

Coron looks lovely. I have not been to the Philippines yet, but it is on my bucketlist! I see you did 4 tours? Would you recommand that? Did you meet loads of people on those tours? x

Yes and yes. 🙂 I liked the first three tours. I wasn’t impressed with tour D, but I heard it’s a popular choice because of the coral garden. I did meet lots of people because I joined group tours. Hope you decide to visit here!

I love solo travel and I’m looking at Coron for next year. Is it possible to request for a budget breakdown of your 5-day stay? 🙂 Thank you so much and i wish you more travels today, onward!

Hi Monica. I already have a whole section for budget and expenses in this post. 🙂

Camille Umagat

I’m going to Coron this November. Isn’t it awkward to go on tour without any friend/s?

Nope. But you will probably get asked a lot why you’re alone or if you’re heartbroken… or something along those lines. 🙂

Marice S. Batiao

Hello, I’m planning for a solo trip this September. Do you have to book the tour in advance or you can just get book then and there on a cheaper price. Also, I’m going on a weekday, there might be no group tours available. Thank for the help.

Even in off-peak season it’s best to book in advance. There are group tours even on weekdays. 🙂

Hi! I’m going to Coron this January and I’m also booked at Seahorse Guesthouse! I just wanted to ask if they provide the guests with free towels? Also, do guests need to bring their own padlock for the locker or do they also provide them?

Hi Martin, yes the inn provides towels and a padlock.

20 Best CORON PALAWAN TOURIST SPOTS & Things to Do

20 Best CORON PALAWAN TOURIST SPOTS & Things to Do

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

When we think of Coron, the first thing that comes to mind are the towering karst cliffs that cloister pristine lagoons and lakes. These limestone walls have become iconic, but they’re not really unique to the area. Several other destinations in the Philippines have the same wonders to brag about — from El Nido just across the sea to Caramoan all the way to the other side of the country — but what sets Coron apart is the sheer diversity of what it has to offer.

Coron is part of the Calamianes, a collection of jagged islands that pepper the waters of Northern Palawan. It is the tourism hub in the area. Its map is dotted with tour operator offices, hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. Consequently, this made the town of Coron the major jump-off point to tourist attractions in neighboring islands and municipalities.

Coron offers a wide array of tourist spots and activities — from lustrous lagoons to beautiful beaches to unforgettable dive sites. They even have saltwater hot springs, which is pretty rare, and, believe it or not, an African safari.

Note: Most of these attractions can be accessed as part of an organized tour — either by chartering a private ride or by joining a group tour. You can also pull a D-I-Y if you have the means. In addition, opening hours might change without prior notice, so please check the official websites or Facebook pages before visiting.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Kayangan Lake

This scenic lake can be reached after a 15-minute trek up a hill, a bit challenging but totally worth it. But even before reaching the actual lake, you will be treated to a magnificent view of the clear blue waters halfway. This image from the view deck is what you will usually see when you search Kayangan Lake on the internet.

tour guide script in coron palawan

To reach the actual lake, you need to do a few minutes of trekking, but the sight of Kayangan Lake will make the climb worth it. It is hailed as one of “the cleanest lakes in the Philippines”. It’s also important to note that the area is maintained by the local Tagbanua tribe. Take a dip and appreciate the surrounding rock formations. Go early to avoid the crowd.

Entrance Fee: P300 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If chartering a private boat: Standard rates are P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If joining a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

2. Barracuda Lake

Barracuda Lake is another popular lake on Coron Island that is open to the public.

tour guide script in coron palawan

Why Barracuda? It’s said to be named after a giant barracuda fish whose skeleton was discovered in the depths of the lake. Like the Kayangan Lake, it has brackish water, a combination of saltwater and freshwater, but what makes it more interesting, especially for divers, is the thermocline — layers of cold, warm, and hot waters.

Be sure to follow the safety regulations when swimming and diving.

Entrance Fee: P250 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax) per boat. Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If joining a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

3. Twin Lagoon

tour guide script in coron palawan

The first lagoon where the boats are docked can easily get crowded, especially at midday. The second lagoon can be accessed in two ways, depending on the tide — taking the ladder over the rock during high tide or swimming through an opening underneath the rock during low tide. Either way, take utmost care when transiting between the two.

You may feel a combination of warm and cold water as you swim in the lagoons.

Entrance Fee: P200 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If booking a group tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary first before booking. Some tour packages don’t have Twin Lagoon in their itinerary.

You can book this tour through Klook! The Coron Super Ultimate Day Tour and Coron Tour B both include Twin Lagoon in their itineraries.

4. Banul Beach

Aside from the lagoons and lakes, Coron is also blessed with beautiful beaches both on the mainland and on the islands. Banul Beach features powdery white sand, limestone walls, and a coral garden.

Banul Beach is the usual lunch stop for the Coron Island Tour, although not always. Some tour operators do their lunch stop somewhere else when the beach has already reached its traffic capacity.

Entrance Fee: P150 Tour Guide Fee: P500 If booking a private boat: P2,700 (2-4 pax) / P3,250 (5-8 pax) / P3,800 (9-15 pax). The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. If booking a join-in tour: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking. Some tour packages don’t have Banul Beach in their itinerary.

5. CYC Beach

But to get to the top, you need to conquer around 700 concrete steps. But fret not, rest stops with chairs have been installed along the way. For those who are not really into hiking, you can stop and take a breather in one of these rest decks.

To reach Mount Tapyas, you can march to the base of the hill independently (DIY-style) or charter a tricycle. If you want a hassle-free trip, you can book a Coron Town Tour . Whatever you choose, make sure to bring enough water and sun protection for this activity.

9. Calauit Safari

A piece of Africa in the Philippines? Yes!

tour guide script in coron palawan

Although not really an African safari, the Calauit Safari Park still entices you with an experience that is different from the usual island destination activities in the Philippines. The island provides a habitat for animals that are not native in the Philippines like giraffes and zebras.

Calauit is located in the municipality of Busuanga, on the other side of the island, so it can take a lot of time to reach. To get to the Calauit Safari, you travel by sea or travel by land.

If you want to visit Black Island too, then the recommended mode is by boat. Here are the other stops when you travel by boat: Lusong Coral Garden and Gun Boat Wreck and Pamilacan Island. Other packages might include these stops: North Cay and South Cay.

If you choose to go by land, the itinerary will depend on the operator. Choose the one that suits your preferences. The trip by land usually consists of 2-4 of these attractions (aside from Calauit Safari): Conception Falls, Malbato Chapel, North/South Cay, Pamilacan Island, and Lusong Coral Garden and Gun Boat Wreck.

Entrance Fee: P250 (Filipinos) / P400 (Regular) Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). 10. Black Island

Situated northwest of Busuanga Island is Malajon Island , popularly called Black Island by the locals and tourists.

tour guide script in coron palawan

It looks intimidating from afar because of its distinct feature — the dark colossal karst cliffs that largely define the island’s landscape. These peaks rise from a huge bed of white sand that slopes steeply and slides under the waves. It’s a wide and happy playground for the beach lover.

Aside from snorkeling, diving, or beach-bumming, you can also go cave hunting as the island have caves that are open to the public. The biggest can be easily accessed by climbing a short ladder. Its floor is cracked open, allowing a glimpse of the cold crystal water that filled its miniature lakes. Stalactites adorn its ceiling and rocks covered in sparkling white silica make up its walls.

Black Island is usually part of the Calauit Safari Tour by sea.

Entrance Fee: P200 Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Calauit Safari Tour Rates: P2,500 – P3,000 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

11. Pamalican Island

There are two Pamalican Islands in Palawan: the popular one is in Cuyo, which is exclusively owned by Amanpulo; the other can be found in Busuanga, easily accessible from Coron.

tour guide script in coron palawan

Lying west of Busuanga, this 50-hectare island is fringed by a wide expanse of light-colored sand and is covered by a dense forest. This is the best place for beach lovers to laze around and swim.

Pamalican Island is usually included in the Calauit Safari Tour itinerary.

Entrance Fee: P100 Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P9,300 (2-4 pax) / P10,400 (5-8 pax) / P17,000 (9-15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Calauit Safari Tour Rates: P2,500 – P3,000 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

12. Lusong Coral Garden & Gun Boat

tour guide script in coron palawan

Lusong Coral Garden is another usual stop in the Calauit Safari Tour itinerary. This activity is amazing and enjoyable not only for those who know how to dive but also for those who are content just snorkeling.

The vast coral garden is a sight to behold — various colorful marine creatures frolicking in and out of the various formations of vibrant corals.

Lusong also has a shipwreck of a World War II gunboat.

Klook’s Coron Reefs and Wreck Day Tour includes Lusong Coral Garden at Gun Boat in the itinerary.

13. Malcapuya Island, Bulog Dos & Banana Island

tour guide script in coron palawan

These island destinations are tailor-fit for those who are interested in beach bumming and swimming. These three share the same feature — powdery white sand beaches, cerulean waters, and rock formations — but each of them still offers something different and will make you appreciate the natural beauty of Coron.

All three are usually included in Malcapuya Island Tour , sometimes called Island Escapade Tour or Beaches Tour . Some packages also have Malaroyroy Island in the itinerary.

Entrance Fee: P250 (Malcapuya Island) / P250 (Bulog Dos) / P250 (Banana Island) Tour Guide Fee: P500 Standard Boat Rates: P4,350 (4 pax) / P5,450 (8 pax) / P7,100 (15 pax). Please book with the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The rates above do not include entrance fees, guide fee, and food. Island Escapade Tour Rates: P1,500 – P2,800 per person (ALL IN). Check the itinerary and inclusions first before booking.

Klook’s Coron Tour C and Coron Island Escapade Day Tour have Malcapuya Island in their itineraries. Check the other inclusions.

14. Fireflies and Plankton Tour

It’s something that we highly recommend! This tour is an enchanting experience that you will never forget! In Coron, fireflies come out and fly around the mangroves at night, creating a luminous show.

But it doesn’t stop there. The natural illumination continues when you look down and dip your hand in the water, creating a magical trail brought about by the bioluminescent plankton.

You can avail of this through Calamian Islands Travel and Tours. The tour is inclusive of buffet dinner, transfers, and kayak fees. Note that they don’t do private tours, only group tours.

We tried taking photos and videos but it’s just too dark. But it is similar to what’s happening in this video. Not the same, but close to it.

Joiner Tour: P950 per person Tour Duration: Pick-up at 6:00 PM. The end of the tour and return to the hotel is at 9:30 PM.

15. Parasailing

tour guide script in coron palawan

This is a thrilling way to see and experience Coron. If you want to see panoramic views of the natural riches of the area from above but don’t want to sweat it out by hiking up a mountain, you can opt to strap yourself up and parasail. Feel the wind embracing you as you appreciate the breathtaking scenery up in the air.

There are many parasailing packages offered in Coron. You can go solo or experience with your friends or family by booking the double flyer or the triple flyer. You can also check Klook’s All-In Watersports Experience if you want to try other watersports aside from parasailing.

16. Water Sports

Aside from the island-hopping tours, there are lots of water sports activities in Coron. Each operator offers different packages with varying inclusions and/or combines them with other tours or activities. Choose the best that suits your preference, budget, and itinerary. Some of the options are:

17. Culion Island

tour guide script in coron palawan

Also part of the Calamianes, Culion Island is another day trip destination from Coron. Isolated from the rest of the world for almost a century, Culion has endured the stigma associated with being the biggest leper colony in the world.

Finally declared a leprosy-free area in 2006 by the World Health Organization (WHO), the island town is slowly rising as a tourist destination. Getting there is quite challenging as that route is yet to be developed, so the crowd volume is way fewer than the neighboring Coron and Busuanga.

Some of the places to visit are the Culion Museum and Archives, Culion Church, Aguila Viewpoint, Balanga Falls, San Ignacio Farm, Pulang Lupa, and diving/snorkeling sites. The first three are usually part of the Culion Town Historical Tour .

Island hopping tour usually includes Malcapuya Island, Banana Beach, Bulog Bulog Beach, Bogor Marine Park.

Getting There: You can charter a private boat via the Calamian Tourist Boat Association. The office is located at Lualhati Park, just behind the public market. The rates depend on the number of passengers and the itinerary. Note that because the price is quite steep, it is best for big groups. Alternatively, you can join a group day tour from Coron. This is a much cheaper option if you don’t plan to stay overnight on the island.

If you are planning to stay overnight, the cheapest option is to take the passenger boat from Coron. Only one trip per day per way. The departure time from Coron is 1:30 PM. The trip back to Coron is scheduled at 7:00 AM the next day. The travel time is about 90 minutes. Note that this schedule might change, depending on the weather condition and other reasons.

Rates: P3000/1-4 pax, P3500/5-8 pax, P6000/10-15 pax (Private Boat Roundtrip); Approximately P1200 (Day Tour from Coron); P180 (Passenger Boat Fare + P20 Terminal Fee)

18. Coron Town Tour

Coron is not just about island hopping and beach activities. The town center also has some attractions for those interested in seeing how the locals go about their lives. Here are the usual stops:

tour guide script in coron palawan

  • Public market
  • Souvenir shops
  • Lualhati Park
  • St. Augustine Church
  • Maquinit Hot Springs
  • Mount Tapyas

Some tours include a stop at a cashew nuts factory.

Although it is entirely possible to do this tour on your own — most stops are accessible by tricycle and on foot — it’s best done with a guide, who can explain the significance of these places to the locals.

Rates: Maquinit Hotsprings P200 (Entrance Fee); P350 (Roundtrip Tricycle Fare); FREE (Mount Tapyas Entrance) Coron Town Tour: P700 – P1,600 per person. Check the itinerary and inclusions before booking.

If you want to join a group tour, you can book Klook’s Coron Town Half-Day Tour. Usually, Klook offers discounted rates for tour packages.

19. Shipwreck Diving

tour guide script in coron palawan

The battle between the US Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1944 at the height of World War II resulted in about a dozen sunken warships at the bottom of Coron Bay. These shipwreck diving spots are just a short boat ride from the mainland and are within recreational diving depth. The colossal wartime vessel wrecks are said to be some of the best-preserved in the world.

Some of the popular wrecks are the Irako, the Olympia Maru, the Okikawa Maru, the Kogyo Maru, the Akitsushima, and the Morazan. There are many dive operators in Coron Town, so you will have no problem booking a diving tour here.

20. Seafood Galore

Because Coron is a world-famous island destination with very few food sources, expect the food to be quite pricey. Yes, even seafood! If you are eating at restaurants, the price range for a meal is P150 to P400.

To give you an idea, the P150-meal at a proper sit-down resto is composed of a cup of rice and a small serving of a Pinoy dish like adobo, tapa, or liempo. If you want to binge on seafood, the price of grilled seafood is around P200. For fruit shakes, the price is P100 to P120.

tour guide script in coron palawan

Some of the restaurants we tried are:

  • La Morena Cafe
  • Carl’s BBQ
  • Kawayanan Grill Station
  • KT’s Sinugba sa Balai
  • La Sirenetta

The locals also recommend Santino’s Grill and Amigos’ Smokes and Grill .

That said, there are still many carinderias and other budget options for those traveling on a shoestring.

Note: Most restaurants and cafés are operating only during lunchtime and dinner time. Lunchtime is from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and dinner time is 6:00 PM onwards.

Coron DIY Itinerary – Day 1: Day of Arrival

flight from manila to coron

7 am to 11 am  – Day of arrival. Many of the flights that come from Manila to Coron usually arrive in the morning. However, if you are taking the speed boat from El Nido, you will be arriving mid to late afternoon. Use much of your morning or early afternoon to get yourself settled and rested because the next three days can get quite busy!

Noon  – If you make it to Coron before noon, take the time and check out one of our recommended restaurants in Coron.

2 pm to 4 pm  – If you have enough energy after a hearty lunch, take the time and explore Coron town. Although Coron town proper is not the most photogenic island town in Palawan, it’s still quite different from other towns you’ll come across in the Philippines. I remembered my first visit to Coron in 2013; there was hardly anything in the town proper – perhaps a few restaurants here and there. Today, the island is a lot more developed with a lot more options for tourists, although still not on the same level as Boracay.

5 pm  – Go back to the hotel and freshen up

5:45 pm  – Head to Hop Hostel for a drink and experience the legendary sunset of Coron at their rooftop bar.

7:30 pm  – Dinner time, pick one of our recommended places to eat in Coron!

Coron Itinerary – Day 2: Island Hopping Tour

coron itinerary tour

730 am –  Wake up call! Have breakfast, and prepare for the day.

9 am –     The first thing on your to-do list on your first full day in Coron is island hopping the famous islands. As mentioned above, there are four island hopping tours you can pick – creatively named Tour A, Tour B, and Tour C. You can pick whatever tour for this day, but let’s just say you choose Tour A for your first island hopping tour.

Tour A explores Coron’s most iconic sites. In this tour, you will visit the iconic Kayangan Lake, snorkel in the beautiful coral garden and discover the aquamarine life of Palawan, and have downtime and relax at CYC Beach.

430 pm  – Coron island hopping tour ends, and you should be back on the town proper by this time.

545 pm  – If you wish to catch the sunset, try La Sirenetta Restaurant & Bar for sunset with a perfect view of the bay.

7 pm  – Dinner time! You can conveniently stay in La Sirenetta Restaurant & Bar if you wish for dinner. Alternatively, you can try the popular Trattoria Altrove, famous for its authentic Italian pizza and pasta.

Coron Itinerary – Day 3: Non-Island Hopping Activity

coron palawan itinerary

730 am –  Wake up call! Rise and shine and have your breakfast. For today’s itinerary, we will take a break from island hopping in Coron to explore different areas of the island. We will hike the second highest peak in Coron, Mount Tapyas, and relax at Maquinit hot springs after the hike!

You also can climb Mount Tapyas towards late in the afternoon to catch the incredible sunset with a view of Coron bay.

9 am  – Leave for Mount Tapyas. Make sure you bring a hat and a bottle of water as the sun can be quite intense. There are few areas along the way with spectacular views of the bay before you get to the peak.

Noon –  Leave for lunch. Try one of our recommended restaurants in Coron town!

2:30 pm  – Head to Maquinit Hot Springs. This hot spring is the only known saltwater hot spring in the Philippines, and probably the only one in Asia. It is conveniently located about 25 minutes from the town center and ideally located between a hill and the blue sea whose shores are lined with mangrove trees and floating bamboo cottages. You can stay here for as long as you’d like!

7 pm  –   Dinner time!

Coron Itinerary – Day 4 : 2nd Island Hopping Tour

coron palawan philippines

7:30 am –  Rise and shine! Do your morning routine and get ready to start the day!

9:00 am  – For today, we are going to do a second island hopping tour. Since we already signed up for Tour A for our first tour, we have Tour B and Tour C as our island hopping tour options.

Tour B is another popular island hopping tour in Coron. You get to explore Coron’s legendary Barracuda Lake, snorkel sunken shipwrecks, discover hidden lagoons, and have lunch on one of the most beautiful beaches in Coron.

4 pm  – By mid to late afternoon, you should be back in Coron town. Use this time to relax for a bit, have a nap, or just have downtime.

5:30 pm –  Time to have drinks and watch the Coron sunset at your preferred bar. Another alternative is to use this time and get a massage in Coron town.

7 pm onwards  – Dinner and drinks to end the night!

Coron Itinerary – Day 5 : Leave Coron

730 am  – Rise and shine!

9 am onwards –   Before checking out of your hotel, I recommend using this time to have breakfast and perhaps walk around Coron town proper and buy souvenirs.

11 am  – Depart Coron

WHERE TO STAY IN CORON #1: CLUB PARADISE (LUXURY RESORT)

What guests are saying on booking.com

One of the best resorts in Coron with its stunning location – an island rimmed with white beaches. You will feel isolated yet wholly taken care of, with the amenities of home. We were welcomed with a Club Paradise theme song played by the band, an introduction to the manager, and a foot bath. The island has a lovely pool and serves delicious food.

WHERE TO STAY IN CORON #2: CORON SOLEIL GARDEN RESORT (MID RANGE)

A beautiful property and far better than anything else I’ve stayed at or seen in Coron. The room was very spacious, comfortable, and clean. The property was very well maintained. I ate in the restaurant once, and it was delicious! The pool is beautiful, especially at night. The service is exceptional, and the staff was very accommodating in assisting my late arrival and transfer to my next hotel. For people who complain that it is slightly out of Coron town: trust me, that’s a good thing! It’s much more peaceful here than at any of the other hotels right in town. I wish I could have stayed longer!

WHERE TO STAY IN CORON #3: HOP HOSTEL (BUDGET)

Everything was terrific at this hostel! It’s gorgeous, they serve delicious food, and the staff is kind and FUN so special thanks to them as they were the big bonus to my stay! They took us on a super lovely boat trip all day and organized a lot of other activities every great day! The hostel has a fantastic rooftop terrace where you have magic views. The rooms are spacious, clean, and the beds super comfortable. If I have the chance to go to Coron again, I will stay here!

Awesome Things To Do In Coron: Experience The Gem Of Palawan For Yourself

Looking for great tips for visiting Coron Palawan. From Kayangun Lake and the Twin Lagoons and the best hotels in Coron Island, here are our tips for Coron

Looking for great tips for visiting Coron Palawan. From Kayangun Lake and the Twin Lagoons and the best hotels in Coron Island, here are our tips for Coron

Discover the best tips for visiting Coron Palawan. From understand Coron Island tours to what you haven't heard, check out our tips for Coron Palawan.

Coron Palawan, Philippines is fast becoming one of the most popular places to visit in the Philippines. It’s easy to see why Coron has become so popular. It’s the ideal destination for those seeking an off the beaten path destination with beautiful beaches and crystal clear water teeming with underwater life. In addition, Coron Island has been popular with local and foreign backpackers as a budget-friendly destination in the Philippines for some time. Even by the standards of the exceptionally beautiful region of Palawan, Coron stands as the jewel of the region.

Popular destinations in the Philippines like Boracay Island and the marine parks of El Nido have been the go-to destination for most travelers in the Philippines. But these days the popularity and increased accessibility of Coron Palawan has it appealing to couples, solo travelers, and adventure-loving families traveling to the Philippines with kids.

Where Is Coron Palawan?

Table of Contents

Coron is a municipality in the province of Palawan and is part of the Calamian group of islands in the Philippines. Coron is composed of many islets, Coron Island, and part of Busuanga Island, which, to add confusion, also has a town called Coron. The region around Coron has many islands including Sangat Island which is a popular resort for SCUBA divers in Coron .

How To Get To Coron Philippines?

International visitors to coron palawan.

International visitors to the Philippines usually arrive by plane in Manila International Airport. However, it is also possible to land in Cebu International Airport. From either Manila or Cebu, you can take a regional airline and fly to Busuanga Airport (airport code: USU) on Busuanga Island. For those with lots of time but not enough pesos (the local currency of the Philippines), it’s also possible to take a ferry from Manila to Coron.

Domestic Travel Within The Palawan Islands

A trip to Coron is often part of a larger Palawan Itinerary. If you’re traveling from Puerto Princesa City to Coron Palawan, you can take the 2Go Travel ferry. It’s also possible to fly from Puerto Princesa (airport code: PPS) but currently, there are no direct flights to Coron and the stopovers may be over a day long.

We took a charter plane with Air Juan from San Vicente to Coron. The boys enjoyed the close-up view of the pilots of our AirJuan flight. We would definitely fly with them again. If you’re traveling from the popular town of El Nido to Coron, there are several ferry options from fast to slow.

For those traveling within the islands of Coron, you’ll most likely need to take a bangka. The bangka is a double outrigger that doesn’t have a sail. These tend to be the most common way to be shuttled around the islands in the Philippines. They are also the boats that most Coron tour packages use.

When Is The Best Time Coron Philippines?

The best time to visit Coron is from December to May. This coincides with the dry season on the island. Our travels took us to Coron Palawan in January and the weather was glorious. It was sunny but not overly humid and we didn’t see a drop of rain. If you plan to visit Coron during the rainy season from June to September it is still possible to visit the islands.

Top Things To Do Near Coron Island

One of the most famous destinations in Coron Palawan is the Island of Coron. And after experiencing a Coron Adventure Island Tour from Sangat Island , it was easy to why. For those experiencing family travel in the Philippines, the tour offers the chance to experience swimming, snorkeling, and incredible views. It’s also the best way to experience Coron Island life in a day. These are some of the best things to do in Coron Palawan.

Swim At Kayangan Lake

The famous Kayangan Lake on Coron Island is possibly the most iconic destination in Coron Palawan. The view from the hike to Kayangan lake (the one at the top of the page) is the most photographed location in all of Northern Palawan. To get to Kayangan Lake, boats dock in the marina below the viewpoint.

Kayangan Lake is located on ancestral land and is maintained by the Tagbanua tribe. There is a short 200 m walk on a boardwalk which took us a lot longer than it should have as there were many shiny needlefish around that C, our eldest son, kept pointing out. After reaching the end of a boardwalk we began a 163 m climb on 300+ steps to get to the viewpoint of the lagoon. Near the viewpoint is a small cave that is easy to explore (headlamps are recommended). D, our youngest, who was 4 years old at the time of our visit did not have any problems climbing the steps to Kayangan Lake.

Kabaguyan Lake in Coron Palawan

After a few minutes of enjoying the famous Coron Island viewpoint, we followed the fork in the path to Kayangan Lake. This was the busiest place we encountered in Coron Palawan. The water was crowded with people bobbing in the water in signature red life jackets. At the time of our visit, it was mandatory to wear life jackets which were provided by the tour boat we were using. If you are traveling in the Philippines with kids it’s important to know that most tour operators don’t stock lifejackets that will fit small children. We brought our own children’s life jackets and recommend that others do the same.

Kayangan Lake is considered to be one of the cleanest lakes in the Philippines. The boys had a blast jumping off the wooden boardwalk that snakes along the rocky edges towards the Kayangan Lake Cave. The cave, which always has a lineup, was one of their favorite places to swim in Kayangan Lake.

Experience the Thermo-cline at Barracuda Lake

Coron Island has eight lakes, two of which are accessible to the public for swimming. The first, Kayangan Lake, is where we swam. The lake has brackish water, 70% fresh water and 30% saltwater, so dipping below the surface gives off a cool “blurry” effect to the water. The second is Barracuda Lake. It is 30 minutes away from Kayangan Lake. And for those that don’t feel like hauling themselves up the 300 steps to Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake might be your best option.

Barracuda Lake can be reached by climbing less than 40 wooden steps. Barracuda Lake also has brackish water and is famous for having thermo-climes. So, when you dive into the water, it is possible to experience alternating layers of hot, warm, and cold water.

Shipwreck Diving

During WWII several Japanese ships were bombed by American airstrikes in the waters around Coron Island. These supply and warships now lie on the floor of the waters around Coron Island making it one of the best destinations in the world for wreck diving.

If you are not a diver, but still want to see one of these ships, it is possible to snorkel the Lusong Gunboat wreck . The wreck is just off of the southern tip Lusong Island and it less than 1.5 m from the surface. With such clear waters around Coron Bay, the wreck is clearly visible even if you do not do a free dive.

Skeleton Wreck is also a popular destination for both snorkeling and SCUBA diving in Coron. The Skeleton Wreck lies deeper, about 5 m (15 ft) to 22 m (60 ft) beneath the surface. Skeleton Wreck is surrounded by a reef that is teeming with life. Also, it is close to shore. For both these reasons, Skeleton Wreck and Reef make for a great snorkeling attraction for lovers of underwater life.

Swim and Kayak the Twin Lagoons

One of the best ways to enjoy the views of Coron Palawan is to kayak around the towering limestone cliffs. And after enjoying a swim in Twin Lagoons we did just that. Twin Lagoons Coron has a similar atmosphere to Barracuda Lake. Twin Lagoons also has a brackish mix of freshwater and saltwater.

Boats visiting Twin Lagoons dock in a landing area near the First Lagoon. To cross over to the second lagoon, you must swim under a rock crevice or climb a ladder to go over the rock. We had a choice when we visited, but if you visit during high tide, it may not be possible to swim under the rock crevice. We had a great time swimming under the rock. When we crossed over from First Lagoon to the Second Lagoon, the boys were so excited to have found the Hidden Lagoon! Twin Lagoons is a popular Coron tour destination, and you can always make out the group tours by the caterpillar swim of interlocked tourists floating together, usually accompanied by some excited singing.

Coron Island Philippines Twin Lagoons

Most of the tour companies in Coron have a kayak or two onboard. If you are interested in kayaking as part of your Coron Island tour , make sure to let the tour company or your Palawan travel agency know so they can make sure to have one on board the day of your tour.

Kayaks don’t fit through the dividing natural arch between the Twin Lagoons. We were able to kayak out of the Second Lagoon and round to the First Lagoon in about 15 minutes.

Snorkel at Siete Pecados Marine Park

There are many snorkeling sites in Palawan Philipines and one of our favorites is Siete Pecados Marine Park. Siete Pecados Marine Park is located southeast of the coast of Busuanga Island. It’s an easy day trip from Coron town. Siete Pecados translates into the “Seven Deadly Sins”. According to folklore, seven sisters disobeyed their mother when she forbade them to leave Coron town. While traveling by boat, they were shipwrecked. The seven peaks surrounding the area are said to be the seven sisters (also called Seven Sisters Sin Island ) and the waters they surround was named after their sin.

The coral within Siete Pecados Marine Park was in great shape and there was an abundance of marine life. This experience really cemented C’s love for snorkeling. Even D, who had been going through a fear of the water since our time in Boracay , was able to put on a mask and see the underwater life. The fish were everywhere and he didn’t have to put his head underwater for too long to see them swimming around him. If you are looking for a beautiful underwater site to snorkel in Coron we also saw fantastic reefs and lots of fish around Twin Peaks .

Picnic on a White Sand Beach

Many boat tours stop at a beach on their Coron Island Tour allowing the guides time to prepare lunch with a view. Common beach stops include CYC beach, Beach 91, Banol Beach, Atwayan Beach, Calachuchi Beach, and Smith Point Beach . As a seafood lover, this was definitely a highlight for me. All seafood was bought fresh from the market on the day of the tour.

For those that are vegetarian, it is also possible to make requests as many Filipino dishes can be modified so as not to contain meat. My favorite is grilled eggplant with tomatoes and onions. I was so inspired by the food in the Philippines that I put together these easy Filipino recipes so I could enjoy them at home.

Other Things To Do In Coron Palawan

Explore coron town.

One day in your Coron Palawan itinerary can be easily devoted to going around Coron Town. Coron Town tour packages usually include a visit to the town and a hike up Mt Tapyas and visiting Maquinit Hot Springs. These activities are all easy to do yourself however so signing for a tour is not necessary unless you are staying on another island.

Start your Coron on a budget tour by walking around the town plaza and then visiting St. Margaret’s Church. Next, the Coron town waterfront is a popular destination for a stroll along the baywalk. Coron is also famous for its cashews and the most popular place to buy them is at Coron Cashew Harvest .

Coron Palawan Coron Harvest Cashew Nuts

Hike up Mt Tapyas

A climb up Mt Tapyas can easily be done without a guide and part of your Coron do it yourself tour. The climb to the top of Mt Tapyas is 210 meters (630 ft). Mt Tapyas is the second highest peak in Busuanga Island, and it towers over Coron town. There are 721 concrete steps that lead to the viewpoint at the top. For families traveling around Coron with kids, know that there are a lot of rest points along the way. Hiking up Mt Tapyas is included in most Coron Town tours. However, it is also possible as an add-on to your Coron Island Tour .

Relax at a Hot Spring

The most popular hot spring in Coron is Maquinit Hot Springs. Located 3 km outside of Coron town on Busuanga Island, a visit to Maquinit Hot Spring is a popular stop after climbing Mt. Tapyas.

As we were staying at the Sangat Island Dive Resort , we were able to explore a more off the beaten path hot spring, the Sangat Island Hot Spring. The Hot Spring is located on the western side of the island and accessed by kayaking through mangroves. We were lucky to be the only ones at the site when we visited.

Coron Island Philippines hotsprings

Island Hopping Around Coron

It is also possible to hire a boat for island hopping around Coron Palawan to explore islands and beaches that are farther out. These are often combined with stops at coral gardens and reefs for snorkeling. Some islands that will make you want to stay in Palawan forever include  Malcapuya, Banana and Bulog Dos .

Where to Stay in Coron Palawan

Most people who travel to Coron Palawan stay on Busuanga Island. However, there are some amazing places to stay in Coron sprinkled throughout Busuanga, Coron Island, and the many islets that make up Coron Palawan. Here are some of the top places to stay in Coron.

Two Seasons Coron Bayside Hotel

Two Seasons Coron Bayside Hotel is located just a km drive from Coron town and the Coron Public Market. Its central location makes it perfect for those looking to explore Coron Palawan on their own. The rooms are air-conditioned and there is WiFi throughout the hotel. You can check out the prices and availability of Two Seasons Bayside Hotel on Booking.com here .

Coron Soleil Garden Resort

Just 280 meters (840 ft) from Mt Tapyas, Coron Soleil Garden Resort is very close to the heart of Coron Palawan. It’s two kilometers (1.25 miles) from Coron town and has a swimming pool, restaurant, and bar. Coron Soleil Garden Resort also has free WiFi. It’s a bit further from the Coron Island attractions than Two Seasons but gives easy access to the sites of Coron town for those who like exploring the urban landscape of Coron. You can check out the prices and availability at Coron Soleil Garden Resort on Booking.com here .

Sangat Island Dive Resort

While not located on the main islands of Busuanga or Coron, Sangat Island is worth the 45-minute bangka boat ride from Coron Island. This resort is especially popular if you are a lover of SCUBA diving or just want an incredible location to explore on your own. Many of the best shipwrecks in Coron are located right off the shores of Sangat Island. Sangat also has a small tribal village, jungle, and great snorkeling right off the shore.

While you won’t get air conditioning or very functional WiFi at Sangat Island resort, you will get an intimate experience and some of the best natural surroundings in Coron. You can see our full review of Sangat Island Dive Resort here . You can check out the prices and availability of Sangat Island Dive Resort on Booking.com here .

What Do You Need To Know Before Visiting Coron Palawan?

Although Coron is remote compared to other areas of Palawan, it is worth the trip. There are fewer crowds than places like El Nido and Puerto Princesa , and the atmosphere is far more authentic. If you love places like Port Barton and San Vicente , you’ll feel right at home in Coron.

  • Coron town is where most of the hotels in Coron are located. The town itself is not set up like a tourist town. It may not seem all that exciting compared to towns in Boracay or El Nido , but if you look close you’ll find a great taste of authentic Filipino life.
  • Like many popular destinations in the Philippines, getting around in Coron almost always means taking a boat. If you are traveling to Coron with kids, be aware that most tour operators do not stock life jackets for young children. Please bring your own to ensure that kids are safe in Coron.
  • Unlike many popular destinations in the Philippines, Coron tour packages tend to be very flexible. The tours may change from day-to-day depending on what the tour operator thinks will be the best experience or order that day. If there is something specific that you want to see, mention it to the tour guide and they will often find a way to work it into the schedule.
  • Most Coron tours start early in the morning. It’s best to book the day before to ensure that you don’t miss out.
  • The currency exchange rates in Coron are not as good as they are in major cities like Manila or Cebu. It’s best to exchange your money before traveling to Coron Palawan.

Visiting Coron With Kids

The Philippines is one of the best places to travel with kids, and Coron Palawan is no exception. Visiting Coron with kids is a treat. The locals have a warm place in their hearts for children and family travelers to Coron are often treated with extra care. Our experience with the tours in Coron with kids was exceptional. The guides took special care of the children and often took the time to explore special areas of the sites around Coron that were perfect for their age and experience level. If you are considering family travel to Coron, don’t be concerned. It’s a wonderful place to travel with kids.

What Should You Pack For Coron Palawan

The Philippines is a tropical paradise, so it doesn’t require much packing to have an incredible time in Coron. Here are a few basics you should make sure to have on hand to keep you safe and comfortable when traveling to Coron Palawan.

  • Swimsuit – Because almost everything is on the water
  • Reef Safe Sun screen – Skin can burn incredibly fast on even cloudy days. Make sure to pack reef-safe sunscreen to protect the marine life and coral that make visiting Palawan so incredible.
  • Hat – Something with a wide brim to keep the hot afternoon sun off
  • Children’s life jacket (if you’re traveling to Coron with kids)
  • Water bottle – I recommend bringing a filtered water bottle. That way you’ll always have access to clean water whenever you need it. You can check out our filtered water bottle guide here . Let’s all do our part to reduce the use of disposable plastics.
  • Water shoes – The floor the lagoons can be rocky and have sharp pieces of broken coral. A light pair of water shoes will help keep your feet from getting cuts and infections.
  • Dramamine or Sea Sickness meds – If you are prone to seasickness, bring some seasickness meds and take them about an hour before heading out on the water.

Looking for great tips for visiting Coron Palawan. From Kayangun Lake and the Twin Lagoons and the best hotels in Coron Island, here are our tips for Coron

Sunday 28th of April 2019

Hi, We are currently looking at meeting from in the Philippines for 3 weeks in Dec traveling over Christmas and New Years. Can you give me an estimate on how much flights cost with Air Juan from Boracay to El nido. Also, I know we're coming out of the rainy season but any idea how much rain we should expect (as a norm). Also, when looking at hotel accommodations for El Nido, Coron and especially Boracay we can't seem to find much for 2 adults/2 kids and despite room having 2 double beds it all says to book 2 rooms for 4 people. What? True? Any idea how we get around booking 2 rooms? Thanks for any insight you can give.

Christina Wagar

Monday 29th of April 2019

We did a similar trip! To answer your question, I do not believe Air Juan flies from Boracay to El Nido. I would check out Air Swift. Depending on where you are staying in El Nido, other charter airlines may be available to you. For the hotels, we did not have any issues booking 2 double beds and having our children stay in the same room as us. I would email the hotel directly to double check. With regards to the weather, this question is much harder to answer. Rain in the Philippines can be torrential and violent even outside of the rainy season. When we visited, flights out of Boracay were canceled on our last day there due to an incoming typhoon. Luckily, we had an early flight and we were able to fly out. This affected some of the activities also on offer in Puerto Princessa where we headed after Boracay. So, we were unable to experience Honda Bay and the Firefly boat cruise. But there were more than enough activities to keep us occupied. Happy travels :-)

I'm glad you put the map in because I had no idea where it was. I'd love to swim in Kayangan Lake Cave.

It's can be a challenge to get to, but it's worth the effort.

Day by Day Itineray

tour guide script in coron palawan

On this day, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. You are going to explore the awe-inspiring cultural and scenic attractions in Coron Town Area . Your amazing day begins!

Your first stop on this exhilarating excursion is a short trek to the summit of Mt. Tapyas , the second tallest mountain and the most iconic landmark in Coron on Busuanga Island. Follow the 724-step stairs to the viewing deck and once at the top, you are treated with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding islands and the charming town of Coron. You can take many beautiful photographs here.

Second, hop on a scenic 30-minute tricycle ride to the Maquinit Hot Spring , a natural wonder that is sure to leave you spellbound. Located along the picturesque southern coast of Busuanga Island, Maquinit Hot Spring is one of the very few saltwater hot springs in the world. It is said that the water gets heated by a volcano and springs up into the two-tiered circular pool. (Optional Activity: Plunge in and let the 40-degree Celsius waters soothe your muscles.)

Next, you will be followed to visit Cashew Factory which are known to be the best “pasalubong”. Coron is famous for its delectable cashew nuts, and the factory offers a unique opportunity to witness the entire roasting and packaging process firsthand.

Then, move to make your way to the serene San Agustin Parish Church , the only Catholic Church in the area. This historic structure was built in 1901 and has been restored several times over the years. Despite its central location in the bustling town center, the church exudes a sense of tranquility that is sure to soothe your soul. Once you've had your fill of peaceful contemplation, take a leisurely stroll to the vibrant Town Center. This bustling hub of activity is the heart of Coron's commercial district, where you can sample local cuisine or simply soak up the lively atmosphere.

After that, it’s time to unwind and relax at the Lualhati Park which is Coron's baywalk. It is part of the reclaimed space which the government established to serve as the main anchorage for boats and ships traveling in and out of Coron. It is said that this place was erected in tribute of the town mayor's mother. Take a moment to breathe in the fresh sea air and savor the peace and tranquility of this idyllic location. Afterward, you will head to the souvenir shop to buy trinkets and local treats for your loved ones back home.

After the tour, be transferred to your hotel in Coron Town.

tour guide script in coron palawan

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the hotel in Coron Town and take you to enjoy Coron Ultimate Tour with various different experiences.

You will make your way to the port to board your boat for the day. Indulge your senses as you take a boat to your first stop, the world-renowned Kayangan Lake . Nestled in the heart of Coron, this crystal-clear freshwater oasis beckons with its stunning underwater rock formations, intricate caves, and picturesque islets. It's no wonder that photographers flock to this natural wonder, as it boasts unparalleled beauty and is widely regarded as the cleanest lake in the entire Philippines. As you approach the lake, you'll be awestruck by the towering limestone cliffs that encircle the water, providing an awe-inspiring backdrop for your photos. Beneath the surface, an array of vibrant aquatic life thrives, making it a popular destination for adventurous snorkelers and divers.

Later, go to have stunning experience at Barracuda Lake . Located on the north shore of Coron Island in the Philippines, Barracuda Lake is widely regarded as one of the most unique diving experiences in the world. It's occasionally referred to as Luluyuan Lake by the locals, and its crystal blue waters, hidden between majestic rocky formations, create a surreal and tranquil atmosphere. It offers divers the chance to experience a thermocline and halocline unlike anywhere else. As a combination of 70% freshwater and 30% saltwater, this natural wonder provides an otherworldly sensation as you pass through the thermocline and feel the temperature shift around you.

Then, enjoy the stunning Twin Lagoon . It is called Twin Lagoons as there are two lakes which are separated with a rugged piece of limestone rock. The first lagoon is filled with saltwater while the second lagoon is filled with freshwater. You can experience the varying water temperatures or try swim, snorkel, or kayak in the Twin Lagoon.

Later, go to CYC Beach named after the Coron Youth Club, offering quiet and relaxing beach getaway. The beach has white sand and clear waters, dotted with mangrove trees and rock formations that make for a beautiful beachscape. It is an ideal spot for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking.

In this afternoon, explore the Banul Beach , a small stretch of dazzlingly white, powder like sand, with incredibly clear water, where lunch is usually served during Coron Island Hopping Tour. Banul Beach is a public beach, surrounded by a majestic backdrop of limestone cliffs, similar to the beaches in Coron Island.

After, get ready to have some fun at Skeleton Wreck/Balinsasayaw. Located on the northwest corner of Coron Island, Skeleton Wreck is a popular dive site that's also great for snorkeling. The wreck rests at a depth of 5 to 22 meters at the stern, making it easy to spot from just off the shore. As you snorkel, you'll be treated to an abundance of colorful fish, creating a stunning underwater world to explore.

Your last stop today is Two Peaks Coral Garden , a better and more beautiful underwater world protected by Coron. The underwater coral reefs here are complete in variety, huge in area, rich in color and strange in layout, which are among the best in the world. It provides you with a fantastic view of aqua life - coral reefs, giant clams, giant turtles, lots of very colourful fishes and marine life.

After the tour, you will be escorted to your hotel in Coron Town.

Features crystal-clear waters and stunning limestone cliffs

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to enjoy “Coron Escapade Tour” to Malcapuya Island, Banana Island and Bulog Dos Island.

First, take a relaxing scenic boat ride to Malcapuya Island , which is a white sand island located two hours from Coron city. Dubbed as the most beautiful island in Palawan, Malcapuya Island boasts fine white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters with distinct layers of colors, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and taking beautiful photos.

Next, be taken to Banana Island . The island is named after its shape, which resembles a banana. It features a narrow strip of white sandy beach set against the backdrop of forested, hilly terrain. You can take a nice walk or just relax and enjoy the views on this island.

Afterward, you'll have the chance to explore  Bulog Dos Island , a stunning sandbar that's part of the renowned beaches in the Calamianes archipelago in Coron, Palawan. Among the stops on your itinerary, Bulog Dos is the smallest, allowing you to leisurely tour the area in less than an hour.

After the tour, you will be transferred to the hotel in Coron Town.

Trip Extension: You can extend your Coron trip to Manila, El Nido, Boracay, Bohol, Cebu, Dumaguete, Banaue, and other destinations. Please share your ideas with us!

It was an amazing trip, our tour guide Richard gave us knowledge about the city. Also our boat D' Menger one?(not sure if I spelled correctly) made sure that we are safe during the island hopping tours. They're great.

Pick up van was perfectly on time. At the port there are many tourists and groups and it takes some time (more than 1h) and patience to board on your boat. The sail was smooth and our guide and boatmen polite. Lunch was delicious!
