Culture, science and Art Nouveau

Darmstadt is a centre for arts and culture....

...and a city renowned worldwide as a hub for scientific research.

Located in the south of Hessen in the metropolitan Rhine-Main region, Over three-quarters of darmstadt was destroyed during the Second World War.

However, a number of historic buildings have been rebuilt and restored and some of the city's original, charming character remains. With countless magnificent Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) houses and a handful of unique modern buildings, it's a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts.

The Waldspirale apartment complex, designed by by Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, is an excellent example of his unique vision of housing. The Mathildenhöhe , a former artists' colony established in 1899, is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture: browse the impressive collection of Jugendstil objects at the on-site museum and visit the iconic Wedding Tower . Also in the complex is the striking gold and turquoise Russian Orthodox chapel , set in a peaceful grove of plane trees.

Home to publishing houses, art galleries and design studios as well as internationally-acclaimed institutes for literature, music and art, Darmstadt also boasts a vibrant music and entertainments scene . Highlights include the Hessen State Museum  (Hessisches Landesmuseum) home to the world's largest collection of works by German artist Joseph Beuys, and the Centralstation , a historic former power station that's now a venue for concerts, exhibitions, theatre and clubnights. If you're in Germany to party, be sure to visit during Darmstadt's annual Heinerfest in July. First held in 1951 amid the ruins of the city, the festival stands as solid proof that the people here know how to have a good time.

As well as being highly regarded as a cultural and creative hub, Darmstadt is also known as the City of Science . The city is home to a technical university and numerous major scientific institutions including the European Space Operations Centre . UNESCO World Heritage site the Messel Fossil Pit , 9km outside the city, is a disused oil shale quarry of significant scientific importance thanks to its extraordinary abundance of fossils. Exhibits can be viewed at the museum in the town of Messel and also at the Hessen State Museum.

GETTING THERE

The main train station is served by Intercity-Express (ICE), InterCity (IC) and Eurocity (EC) trains as well as regional (RE, RB and S-Bahn) services. There are frequent connections to Frankfurt (Main) train station (duration: 20 minutes), from where you can change trains and travel onwards to Frankfurt Airport.

Plan your journey and book train tickets online on the multilingual Deutsche Bahn site .

Darmstadt is 25km from Frankfurt Airport and can be reached by car/taxi in approximately 20 minutes.

Welcome to Darmstadt

City of Science or Centre of Culture? Darmstadt is both. Like almost no other city, it combines an appreciation of the arts with a passion for science and innovation. Darmstadt still has the charm of a royal capital – at the same time it is a modern city, a laboratory for cultural as well as scientific experiments.

The journey started with the forming on the Mathildenhöhe of the Artists' Colony, a group of artists whose exhibitions enjoyed worldwide recognition and who created a document of modern forms of construction and housing - starting point for modern industrial design.

Before the title “City of Science” was bestowed on Darmstadt in 1997, the city was recognised as “City of the Arts”. In fact, both sides go hand-in-hand, recognising that the combination of tradition and innovation is the “Darmstadt Way” to discover new things – here and throughout the world.

See you in Darmstadt!

A hike over the 7-Hügel-Steig or a bike tour on the 60 km bike route "Around Darmstadt" - there are many ways to discover the city. And this year, too, there are many cultural highlights such as exhibitions, anniversaries and other exciting concepts.

Whether for a shopping spree, meeting friends, visiting a museum or one of the many leisure activities - see you in Darmstadt!

Darmstadt: a city of poets, thinkers and space explorers

If German cities were schoolchildren, Darmstadt would be top of the class. Highly educated, cultivated and with a range of interests – through science, literature, art and architecture, Darmstadt has developed a wholly unique appeal that has earned it much acclaim.

The establishment of the Mathildenhöhe Artists' Colony more than 100 years ago played its part in raising Darmstadt to prominence. Still to this day, the magnificent Art Nouveau buildings give the muses' hill an unmistakable character. The city has long been known for its publishing houses, internationally acclaimed institutes for literature, art and music, the Satellite Control Centre (ESOC) and the technical university. The Hessian State Museum, home to the world's largest Joseph Beuys collection, the Kunsthalle art museum, the State Theatre, a vibrant music and entertainment scene and the city's many art galleries all have their own unique cultural flair.

Darmstadt Artists' Colony (Mathildenhöhe)

Hesse state museum in darmstadt, residential palace and marktplatz square, waldspirale building complex.

Centralstation, a heritage-listed former power station, is now a venue for theatre productions, readings, exhibitions, concerts and club nights. But that's not all. Other attractions include the Old Town Hall, the palace on the Marktplatz square, the octagonal house and the orangery, as well as the Russian Orthodox church with its enchanting grove of plane trees. Not forgetting the Messel Pit Fossil Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that unearths our planet's early history. The annual Heinerfest festival is the ultimate proof that the erudite people of Darmstadt aren't afraid to let their hair down, especially when in good company.

Future History Tour "Darmstädter Innenstadt"

Future History Tour "Darmstadt City"

Time travel through Darmstadt's city centre!

With "Future History" historical views of the city can be compared with today's. What has changed, what has remained the same?

Darmstadt was the capital and residence of the Hessian landgraves and grand dukes, capital of the Grand Duchy of Hesse until 1919, then capital of the People's State of Hesse until 1933 and the State of Hesse until 1945. Darmstadt lost its status to Wiesbaden, due to the severe war destruction.

In the reconstruction phase after 1945, the city concentrated on its importance as a city of science and culture. Today Darmstadt has over 160,000 inhabitants and a lively city centre with numerous sights, shopping streets, restaurants, parks and green spaces.

Via the Future History App (available in Google Play and in the AppStore) you can also be guided directly to the individual locations and fade in the historical views with AR (Augmented Reality).

Ostparkweg - from the city centre to the Darmbach source

The Ostparkweg leads from Darmstadt's city centre along the Darmbach to the east, to the Darmbach source behind the Fischerhütte or as an alternative to the Oberwaldhaus at the Steinbrücker Teich.

The Ostparkweg connects the recreational areas close to the city such as the Rudolf-Müller-Anlage, the Woog, the area around the Botanical Garden with the forest behind the Lichtwiese to the Darmbach spring or via the Oberfeld to the leisure area at the Steinbrücker Teich.

darmstadt tourist information

Darmstadt is a city south of Frankfurt in Hesse , with a population of 160,000 (2019).

Understand [ edit ]

Prior to World War I , Darmstadt was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The Grand Dukes used to live in what is now the Schloss Marktplatz. It is also the birthplace of the last Empress of Russia, Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna Romanova, who was born Prinzessin Victoria Alix Helena Louise Beatrice von Hessen und bei Rhein . Sadly, much of the old town was destroyed in carpet bombing by the Allies during World War II , and most of what is still standing was reconstructed after the war. Darmstadt also lost its status as the capital of Hesse after the war, that honour now lying with the nearby city of Wiesbaden .

The popular recreational drug Ecstasy was first synthesised in Darmstadt in 1912 by a chemist known as Anton Kollisch while he was working for the pharmaceutical company Merck. The element Darmstadtium, element 110 on the Periodic Table, is named after the city. Perhaps as many as 11 atoms of this short half-life element have been synthesized to date.

If you speak German, the name might sound peculiar to you as the word "Darm" means "intestine" in German, though - as locals are quick to point out - the etymology of the name has nothing to do with intestines large or small.

The Darmstadt Marketing tourist office is located on the corner of the Luisenplatz.

Darmstadt is also an important site for the European Space Agency (ESA) serving as mission control for several important space missions in a similar way Houston fulfills that role for NASA.

Get in [ edit ]

By train [ edit ], by plane [ edit ].

Darmstadt is about 20 minutes by road from Frankfurt Airport ( FRA  IATA ). For those continuing their journey to Darmstadt by public transport, the Darmstadt Airport Shuttle bus service (AirLiner) is far more convenient than the train. It runs every 30 to 60 minutes between 04:00 and 23:00 and costs €7.60 / €5.95 for adults/children. Buy your ticket from the bus driver. The AirLiner ticket is also valid for connecting transport around Darmstadt (RMV zones 40xx).

The AirLiner stops at both terminals of the airport. Look for bay 14 across the street from terminal 1. At terminal 2 the stop is right in front of the terminal. You can download a leaflet with the schedule [dead link] from the website of HEAG Mobibus.

On its way to Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof the bus stops at Mina-Rees-Straße and Heinrich-Hertz-Straße. In the opposite direction the bus goes directly from the station to the airport.

By car [ edit ]

The freeways A5 and A67 go by to the eastern end of Darmstadt. Follow the signs to Darmstadt/Griesheim onto the very short A672, which merges into the B26 towards Darmstadt. Expect a traffic jam here in the morning.

You can also reach Darmstadt via the B3 and B26 main roads. The B3 runs in north–south direction, connecting Darmstadt with Frankfurt in the north and Heidelberg in the south. It runs largely parallel to the A5 freeway. The B26 runs east–west and is the main connection to Aschaffenburg.

The inner city is a system of tunnels and one-way roads for passing traffic. This can be a bit confusing.

Get around [ edit ]

Map

Darmstadt's public transport is part of the greater Rhine Main area network Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) . Darmstadt and its surroundings are designated as tariff area 40. This area is further subdivided into several zones numbered 40xx, Darmstadt city is zone 4001. Fares vary depending on the number of zones touched.

Tram lines are marked by single-digit numbers. The tram network extends from Darmstadt-Arheilgen in the north to Darmstadt-Eberstadt in the south and beyond to Seeheim-Jugenheim and Alsbach, from Griesheim in the west to Darmstadt-Kranichstein in the northeast. Lines 3, 5, 7/8, and 9 constitute the core network. Lines 1, 2, 4, and 6 reinforce the core network during rush hours. Line 6 is an express line, it skips some of the intermediate stops on its route between Eberstadt and Merck.

Single or double letters mark local bus lines. Main bus lines have single-letter designations and often share routes stops with trams in the inner city. In the evening hours most tram and bus lines operate with a frequency of 30 minutes. At minutes :15 and :45 meet at Luisenplatz for connections. The last of these central transfer stops is at 0:15, except for Fridays and Saturdays with two additional rounds at 01:15 and 02:15.

Overland lines to surrounding towns and villages have three- or four-digit numbers, or two-digit numbers preceded by the letter K. Most of these lines stop at Hauptbahnhof and other stops that they pass on their way through the city.

Besides Hauptbahnhof, several train stops are scattered throughout the city: Wixhausen and Arheilgen in the north serviced by the S3 S-Bahn line, Darmstadt-Süd and Darmstadt-Eberstadt in the south where Regionalbahn trains to and from Heidelberg stop, Darmstadt Nordbahnhof and Darmstadt-Kranichstein on the line to Aschaffenburg, and Darmstadt Ostbahnhof and Darmstadt TU-Lichtwiese on the line to Erbach (Odenwald).

For schedules and fares see the website of RMV .

When buying a ticket from a vending machine at a tram or bus stop, you need to specify a destination. The machine has a chart giving numeric codes for a variety of destinations. If you plan to travel only in the central part of Darmstadt, then enter the destination code for Stadtmitte (city centre).

For 2-5 people traveling together for multiple trips within a day, a group day ticket ( Gruppentageskarte ) is probably the economic choice.

Hesse's national drink, apple cider ( Apfelwein , or, in the local dialect, " Äbbelwoi "), is very popular here too. It is available in pure form, or blended with sparkling water (" sauer gespritzt ") or lemonade (" süß gespritzt "). Foreigners not used to the unusual taste (it is much more sour and less sweet than the cider common in other countries) might want to try the version blended with lemonade first.

15 Best Things to Do in Darmstadt (Germany)

Although modest in size, Darmstadt has a multifaceted appeal. If you’re dazzled by the luxury and wealth of Germany’s nobility, the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt and the Grand Dukes of Hesse lived in the city and they definitely lived well. Their art, porcelain, hunting gear and furniture is spread across museums around the city.

The last Grand Duke, Ernst Ludwig is remembered for turning a whole neighbourhood into an Art Nouveau wonderland, and this century-old ensemble is as special as ever. But Darmstadt also has a scientific feather in its cap: Not only does it now have a place on the Periodic Table thanks to Darmstadtium, it’s also the home of the European Space Agency’s operations centre, as well as the source of some of the most complete fossils ever found.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Darmstadt :

1. Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt

Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt

More than a century old, Hesse’s regional museum has a bit of everything from natural history to ancient archaeology to modern painting.

With such a massive and diverse collection, what you see will depend on your taste, but there are a few exhibits with universal appeal.

First up is the large collection of astoundingly detailed fossils from the Eocene Epoch recovered from the nearby Messel Pit.

Some of these specimens were so well preserved that it was even possible to extract stomach contents.

Also indispensible is the Ortenberg Altarpiece painted anonymously in the 1410s, as well as pieces by artists as varied as Brueghel the Elder, Oswald Achenbach, Lovis Corinth and Joseph Beuys.

2. Mathildenhöhe

Mathildenhöhe

In 1899 the Grand Duke of Hesse, Ernst Ludwig had the idea of attracting artists to build a colony in Darmstadt to breathe new life into the city’s culture and commerce.

He recruited some of the leading members of Germany’s Jugendstil movement (Art Nouveau) to design houses, studios and monuments in a wave of construction divided into four exhibitions across 13 years.

The Mathildenhöhe neighbourhood is littered with these amazing buildings, now listed monuments, designed by Peter Behrens, Hans Christiansen and Joseph Maria Olbrich.

You can download a map of the area with all of its wonders.

3. Hochzeitsturm

Hochzeitsturm

If there’s one sight that cannot be missed in Mathildenhöhe it’s Olbrich’s iconic Hochzeitsturm (Wedding Tower). The tower is just shy of 50 metres tall and was built in 1908 to commemorate Ernst Ludwig’s wedding to Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich.

Olbrich called on a team of craftsmen and artists for the tower’s masterful fittings and decoration.

The most sumptuous is the Zimmer der Großherzogin (Room of the Grand Duchess), which can be hired out for weddings.

The tower’s five looped gables are rumoured to depict Ernst Ludwigs hand, and they contain an observation platform that is open to the public.

4. Schlossmuseum

Schlossmuseum

The possessions belonging to Darmstadt’s Landgraves and Frand Dukes are revealed at this museum in the bell-tower of their former residence opposite Marktplatz.

The historical artefacts, applied arts, paintings, photographs and documents help piece together hundreds of years of Hesse and Darmstadt’s past.

The museum has been open to all since 1924, six years after Ernst Ludwig handed his ancestral collections over when he abdicated in 1918. From the 1600s to the 1900s there’s silverware, gold, dresses, porcelain, tapestries, paintings, clocks, glassware, and furniture in 15 splendid rooms.

5. Messel Pit

Messel Pit

Within Darmstadt’s city limits is a UNESCO World Heritage Site regarded as the world’s richest fossil source from the Eocene Epoch.

The pit was only discovered by science in the 1970s; before that it was a mine for brown coal and a well for shale oil.

When the site was given a serious survey the unprecedented wealth of its natural heritage was revealed.

Now the pit is open to tourists on hour-long tours, on which guides go into depth about the history and methods of fossil excavation and even allow you to touch recently unearthed specimens.

The visitor centre also opened in 2010 and has set up information boards and a viewing platform at the site.

6. Museum Künstlerkolonie Darmstadt

Museum Künstlerkolonie Darmstadt

One of the Art Nouveau buildings constructed in the first exhibition was the Ernst-Ludwig-Haus, intended for ateliers and designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich.

The south facade catches everyone’s attention for its curved portal with fastidious gilded vegetal ornamentation and a pair of sculptures representing man and woman.

The museum’s galleries give you the inside story on Mathildenhöhe’s Art Nouveau exhibitions from 1899 to 1914. You can peruse marvellous examples of applied arts produced for those exhibitions, including furniture sets, sculpture, glassware, ceramics, textiles and metalwork.

From 1904 a lot of these decorative pieces were produced by factories around Darmstadt set up by Ernst Ludwig.

7. Waldspirale

Waldspirale

Friedensreich Hundertwasser designed this apartment building in his inimitable quirky style.

Work started in 1998 and was completed in 2000, the year Hundertwasser passed away.

Set in the Bürgerparkviertel, the Waldspirale holds 105 apartments and rises to 12 storeys high.

From the outside its spiralling bands of texture, curved edges and apparently random window designs give it a playful, childlike quality.

As it happens the windows are so random that no two on the entire tower are the same.

That name “Waldspirale” (forest spiral), partly refers to the roof, which is planted with a grove of lime, beech and maple trees.

8. Herrngarten

Herrngarten

Darmstadt’s largest and oldest park has roots that go back to the 1500s when three smaller parks were combined into one.

In 1766 it was redesigned in the English style on the orders of the Landgrave Caroline, and then in 1811 Grand Duke Ludwig I opened the park to the public.

The sculptor Ludwig Habich contributed a couple of noteworthy monuments at the start of the 20th century.

One is the monument to polymath and cultural icon Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from 1903, and the other is for Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine (Queen Victoria’s favourite great granddaughter) who died from typhoid aged just eight years old in 1903.

9. Ludwigsmonument

Ludwigsmonument

Nicknamed “Langer Ludwig” (Tall Ludwig), this 40-metre column and statue on Luisenplatz is one of Darmstadt’s major landmarks.

This honours the first Hessian Constitution and depicts Ludwig I, the first Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, who ruled from 1830 to his death in 1848. The Neoclassical monument was begun in 1841 while he was still alive and was composed by the architects Georg Moller and Balthasar Harres.

If you look up you’ll see Ludwig, dressed in Roman garb holding the constitution in his right hand.

For a small fee you can scale the 172 steps to reach a platform under the statue at a height of 30 metres.

10. Park Rosenhöhe

Park Rosenhöhe

The last Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig had a big hand in the design of this park on a hill to the east of the city.

The park’s history begins a century before in the early 1800s: It was first landscaped on what used to be a vineyard, and in the 1820s a Neoclassical mausoleum was built here for Princess Elisabeth Grand Duke Ludwig II’s daughter who also passed away as a child.

Later Ernst Ludwig built tombs for his parents, modelled on the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna.

But where Ernst Ludwig really made his mark is at the Rosarium at the highest point of the park, where more than 200 rose species bloom at different times from June to November.

11. Russian Chapel

Russian Chapel

Sitting under the Hochzeitsturm the golden onion domes of this church are a reminder that Darmstadt was the birthplace of the last Empress of Russia.

The sixth child of Grand Duke Ludwig IV, Alexandra Feodorovna was born in the city in 1872. Her husband Nicholas II commissioned architect Leon Benois to build him this orthodox chapel for when he visited Darmstadt with her.

Leading Russian artists of the period, like Viktor Vasnetsov came to produce paintings and mosaics for the chapel’s interior.

Beyond that, all of the building materials for the church were sourced in Russia, and the building is even claimed to have been built on Russian soil transported here by rail.

12. Großherzoglich-Hessische Porzellansammlung

Großherzoglich-Hessische Porzellansammlung

In 1908 Ernst Ludwig decided to open his stash of porcelain and other ceramics up to the public at the Rococo Prinz-Georg-Palais, which dates to 1710. The museum opens of Fridays and weekends, and along with the collection of the Hessian Grand Dukes, has variety of pieces acquired over the last century.

Much of the porcelain and faience was produced by manufactories not far away in Kelsterbach, which were patronised by the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt.

Other famous manufactories represented include Vienna, Sèvres, St Petersberg, Frankenthal and Meissen.

13. Jagdschloss Kranichstein

Jagdschloss Kranichstein

In countryside to the northeast of Darmstadt is a sublime Baroque palace first raised during the reign of George I, the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt in the late 16th century.

Jagdschloss Kranichstein was a hunting lodge on the edge of forest and connected to a spacious deer park, and entertained generations of Landgraves and Grand Dukes on their court hunts.

In the 18th century it became Landgrave Ludwig VIII’s main home when it got a theatrical Baroque makeover.

Now the palace is divided between a hotel and restaurant and a museum all about the court hunts.

While it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, the museum is a snapshot of the noble lifestyle in Darmstadt and has an arsenal of rifles, shotguns and crossbows, as well as hunting daggers and sabres.

14. European Space Operations Centre (ESOC)

European Space Operations Centre

Over the last 50 years more than 70 satellites built by the European Space Agency and its partners have been controlled from this facility on the west side of Darmstadt.

This purpose of this centre is to operate spacecraft that are in orbit, design and build systems to manage space missions and also take care of the ESA’s network of global tracking stations.

At any one time over 10 spacecraft are being controlled from this one facility, and the centre is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If you’re keen to know more there are regular tours of the ESOC.

15. Zoo Vivarium Darmstadt

Zoo Vivarium Darmstadt

The city’s zoo is by no means large, at two hectares, but has around 190 species in green enclosures, terrariums and aquariums.

Instead of big beasts, these are smaller primates, birds and reptiles.

The many indoor habitats here allow the zoo to stay open in winter.

These hold species as diverse as Celebes crested macaques, binturongs and dwarf crocodiles.

Outside there are plenty of opportunities for kids to interact with animals, in a walk-in enclosure that has Bennett’s tree-kangaroos, or the petting zoo hosting African dwarf goats.

Best Things to Do in Darmstadt (Germany)

While pet-sitting in Frankfurt, Germany, we decided to take a day trip to Darmstadt, about 24 miles south of the city. This small town is a major center of scientific institutions, universities, and high-technology companies. Darmstadt also seats the world’s oldest pharmaceutical company, Merck, and is the largest employer.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Darmstadt was the major center of the Jugendstil artistic movement, which you can see in the architecture throughout the city.

The wealthy German nobles, the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt and the Gran Dukes of Hesse, lived in the city, leaving art, porcelain, and home furnishings found in many museums. Duke Ernst Ludwig is known for creating an Art Nouveau wonderland. The city gained international prominence and remained one of the wealthiest cities in Europe.

Hochzeitsturm is referred to as the ‘ Wedding Tower.’ When Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig announced the engagement to Princess Eleonore zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich in 1905, he commissioned this widely visible monument to commemorate the event.

Hochzetsturm

The tower is nearly 50 meters high and was built in 1908. The façade is built with dark-red brick, stylish bands of windows curving around the corners, and a five-spired crown. The unusual crown has earned a nickname as the ‘Five-Fingered Tower.’

Near the entrance hall on the ground floor are walls of decorated mosaics. One of the images represents a young pair of lovers embracing and kissing each other against a blue-sky background.

At the time of our visit, a wedding was being held here, and we were unable to view the Wedding Room or the Prince’s Room. I encourage you to make it to the top and see the panoramic view.

In 1704 the White Tower was converted to a bell tower to call the citizens to prayer. However, during WWII, the building suffered severe damage from bomb raids. The State of Hesse later had the tower restored and added a floor and clock.

Exclusive Darmstadt Travel Guide, Germany

Darmstadt tourism.

Darmstadt - the brighter city among most other German cities is rich with space explorers, poets and thinkers. With uniqueness in its art, architecture, science and literature, the city has earned immense appreciation and applauds. This brainy city is home to the European Space Agency's satellite control centre and internationally approved institutes for art, literature and music. The city today is also rich with publishing houses and graphic designing studios. Darmstadt also features quite a few elegant museums with elaborate collections, theatres, art galleries and more. The vibrant nightlife and festival fun in the city amplifies the entertainment scene of Darmstadt.

The highlight of this German gem is the scientific element Darmstadtium with an atomic weight of 281, created on November 9th 1994 in the city. Today, the term Darmstadtium stands for the most commendable glass-and-stone conference centre in the city. Although the city may sound more ideal for a one day trip, you may be surprised with the amount of sightseeing places it possesses. The remarkable old town hall, the octagonal house and the orangery, Rosenhöhe hill and magnificent churches may just lure you into extending your stay in the city.

Locally known as Dammstad meaning ‘Embankment City’, Darmstadt was once the capital of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. Peeking into the history of the city, Darmstadt is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Messel Pit Fossil Site reflecting the interesting history of earth on the whole.

Make Darmstadt a part of your itinerary while planning your German holiday, especially if Frankfurt is part of your holiday destination.
