Taylor Swift's Colorful "Eras" Manicure Has a Hidden Meaning
Because of course it does.
Getty Images
While today may just be another day to most of us, for Swifties , March 17 is a momentous occasion, as it's the start of Taylor Swift's Eras tour. The highly-anticipated tour is a celebration of all of Swift's albums, from her debut self-titled album, to her most recent project, "Midnights. " She celebrated the tour through her beauty look, and wore a multi-colored manicure with a hidden meaning (of course).
On March 16, Swift shared a carousel of images to Instagram with the caption, âIn my Eras era. 💅â She wore a few outfits that all have the same relaxed rehersal vibe to them, like an olive corduroy pant and navy crop top combo, a brown tank top with black biker shorts, and a pair of denim overalls with floral stitching layered over a tie-dye T-shirt. The last outfit is where comfort and color come together, and she wore an âErasâ manicure to match, with each nail painted a different hue.
@taylorswift /Instagram
The Eras Tour sold out in literal seconds, and itâs likely because this one follows Swift on her journey throughout all of her beloved albums. Her manicure looks like just a cute "Skittles" manicure at first, but Swift is always one to send secret messages to her fans (like when she heads to floor 13 in her Bejeweled music video to claim her victory in a talent show). Starting from her left pinky finger, each nail represents her albums in succession: mint green for âTaylor Swift," sparkling gold for âFearless," plum for âSpeak Now," red for âRedâ (duh), turquoise for â1989," black for âReputation," a glitzy pink for âLover," grey for âFolklore,â cream for âEvermore," and, finally, navy with iridescent turquoise sparkles for her âMidnightsâ album.
Although delicate manicuresâlike the vanilla French and lip gloss manis âare trending hard these days, itâs refreshing to see a nail look that plays with bright, fun colors. Plus, itâs the perfect manicure for anyone who wants to step up their typically muted palette for springâespecially if you'll be heading to the tour.

It's been five years since Taylor Swift last went on tour, and the wait is finally over for Swifties as her Eras Tour kicked off in Glendale, Arizona, aka Swift City . The mayor declared it as the city's new name for March 17 and 18, the days Swift would be playing. The concert was over three hours and included a total of 16 costume changes and 44 songs total, with selections from all 10 of her albums. (If you need a cheat sheet, here's every Swift era explained .) Swift's opening night smashed a record once held by Madonna â with almost 70,000 fans in attendance, it's now the "most attended female concert in U.S. history," per Twitter .
It was clear that there would be huge crowds coming out to see Swift based on how hard it was to buy tickets. Swift ended up adding dates to the tour for a total of 52 shows in the U.S. (international dates have yet to be announced). Ticketmaster ended up crashing and glitching during the presale phase for the Eras Tour, and they ended up canceling their public sales for the tickets, per The New York Times . If you were lucky enough to get one of the much-coveted tickets for Swift's tour, you might need outfit inspo for the Eras Tour to decide what to wear based on your favorite Taylor Swift album . But you don't have to choose a favorite album for the latest Swift-approved manicure.
10 nail polish colors for the 10 Taylor Swift eras
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)
On opening night, Taylor Swift shared eight photos from rehearsals for the Eras Tour with the caption "In my Eras era" along with a nail polish emoji. And in the final image, there's a picture of her wearing embroidered overalls and holding her hands out, with each nail painted a different color. "This is reminding us that every era has a color," said one fan on TikTok who broke down Swift's manicure. It's a simple enough design â 10 colors for each Swift era. The colors go in order of the era/album, starting with the left pinky, so when you hold your hands up, you can see the album progression from left to right. If you want to do it yourself, make sure you've got the pattern down.
On the left hand, it starts with a bright mint green on the left pinky for "Taylor Swift," followed by a glittery gold for "Fearless," purple for "Speak Now," bright red for "Red," and turquoise on the thumb for "1989." Over to the right hand, black nail polish on the thumb represents "Reputation," bubblegum pink for "Lover" (more on that one later), a pale lavender gray for "Folklore," nude/cream color for "evermore," and then on the right pinky, a sparkly blue for "Midnights."
The Lovers fingernail might be an Easter egg
It's a look that you can replicate if you're going to the show, or if you missed out on tickets, you can wear them to let other Swifties know that you're a fan. What makes it an easy-to-achieve at-home look is that there isn't really a lot of detail to it beyond making sure you have the right colors. The only embellishments on any of her fingernails are the two little hearts on her right index finger â they're pink and blue, which match the colors of the vinyl records in the Target exclusive vinyl release of "Lover."
And if there's one thing we know about Taylor Swift, it's that she loves her Easter egg moments. One TikTok theory about why there are two hearts on the "Lover" nail is that she'll be dropping another unreleased track from the era. According to Variety , she's already released one new song from that time, so could it be that her nails are telling us to expect another one? She's done it before â Swift shared a picture of her nails with seven stars on them for her "Midnights" release, per Nailpro . Then the "Midnights (3 am edition)" included seven additional songs on it, as reported by People .
But if you were hoping to go all in on Swift's latest Instagram look, there's some disappointing news â the Free People overalls  she was wearing, complete with embroidered roses and cats, are currently sold out.

Taylor Swift's "Patchwork" Nails Are Perfect For Her Eras Era
Sheâs in her carefree era.
The time has finally come, my fellow Swifties: Taylor Swiftâs headline-making Eras Tour officially begins *today.* And to celebrate the start of this fresh new chapter for the unmatched musician and once-in-a-lifetime artist â the Midnights singer took to Instagram to share some behind the scenes moments from rehearsal. (Is anyone else completely unwell RN?)
With a carousel of photos fittingly captioned âIn my Eras era. đ ,â Swift shared a number of unseen shots, teasing the depth of emotion that will range throughout her upcoming performances. And while her exact setlist has been kept hush-hush â itâs sure to feature some newer songs from Midnights , as well as some fan-faves from previous records ( Taylorâs Version, of course ).
As for her Eras Tour-inspired rehearsal nails? Matching her whimsically patched, cool girl overalls, her manicure has a similar patchwork feel. From a midnight black hue on her thumb to a vibrant pink nail polish that is giving major âLoverâ vibes (with tiny heart-shaped jewels, of course), and a left hand of colorful Skittle-inspired lacquers in glittering shades of turquoise, red, gold, and beyond â her mani likely mirrors the energy and aesthetic from *every* album sheâs ever released.
Swift is known to keep her fans well fed â and as if BTS photos werenât enough, she randomly decided to drop four previously unreleased songs at midnight (and officially out now): âEyeâs Open (Taylorâs Version),â âSafe & Sound (Taylorâs Version),â âIf This Was A Movie (Taylorâs Version),â and âAll Of The Girls You Loved Before.â And for the OG fans, you may remember the first two tracks that had been originally recorded for the 2012 film Hunger Games .
View on Instagram
For those lucky enough to snag tickets or not, an Eras-inspired manicure is *always* the move. Gather your favorite nail polish hues to recreate a similar patchwork manicure to Swift â or checkout these nail art ideas that are inspired by every single song on Midnights . Youâre welcome.
Taylor Swift's Nails For The Eras Tour
Did you catch the symbolism behind taylor swift's eras tour nails.
On 17 March, Taylor Swift kicked off The Eras Tour , her latest string of shows where she journeys through her musical periods. To celebrate this new phase, she shared a carousel on Instagram of behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsal with the caption, "In my Eras era." At the very end, you can see a snap of her nails .
The manicure shot shows Swift dressed in embroidered overalls. She's holding up her hands to reveal a different nail polish colour on each finger, which, given the theme of The Eras Tour, we have an inkling represents each of her studio albums. After all, 10 albums, 10 fingers, 10 colours. Some of the colours are quite obvious: the black polish on her right thumb is likely for "Reputation," the red on her left index finger is for "Red," and the pink with white hearts is for "Lover."
For the remaining hues, it helps to look at the album covers. The shimmery gold matches the artwork for "Fearless," and the deep green and blue on her self-titled debut could merge into the turquoise on her left thumb. "1989" has a washed-out peach colour to match her right ring finger, and the deep purple on her left middle finger matches the deluxe edition of "Speak Now." Meanwhile, given Swift's fondness of the single "Lavender Haze" (it got both its own music video and a dedicated remix EP), the lavender on her middle finger could be for "Midnights."
Where the detective work gets tricky are the green hues â a light green on her left pinky and a forest green on her right. Our guess is the forest green hints at "Folklore," which depicts Swift in a forest, surrounded by tall pines and thick brush. Meanwhile, the light green on her left pinky could be for "Evermore" where Swift is pictured coming out of the wilderness.

Fans Think Taylor Swiftâs Ever-Changing Manicure Contains Her Latest Secret Message
Just mastermind things.
To know and love Taylor Swift is to accept the fact that she has extra baked right into her DNA strands. Itâs part of what fuels her drive to perform 3.5-hour shows , encrypt all of her social media posts with hidden meanings, and keep a steady stream of albums and projects rolling out for fans. It also means sheâs highly aesthetically meticulous. Just look at Taylor Swiftâs Eras nails, carefully shellacked in 10 different colors for her shows each weekend â not to mention all the manicures sheâs trying in between concerts. Yes, so committed is Swift to staying firmly on-theme that sheâs actually painting and re-painting her nails every few days to keep consistent with her on- and off-duty outfits. If her nail color fixation leaves you with more questions than answers, welcome to the club â plenty of fans think thereâs more to the whole thing than a pretty pastel mani.
First, get acquainted with Swiftâs standard on-stage manicure. Keeping in line with all the visual homages to her past eras (Swiftspeak for album cycles), each of her fingernails is painted with corresponding nail colors â a red nail for the album Red , for example.
Yes, she (and possibly a professional manicurist) go though the process ahead of her three shows nearly every weekend. But as fans and paparazzi zoom lenses have noticed, she immediately removes the Eras manicure post-show only to coat her nails in new colors right away. Look at this trendy, bright salmon shade spotted as she left an industry party with rumored beau Matty Healy in tow on May 15:
And the sky-blue shade from the infamous sneakpics that resulted in more than one Casa Cipriani membership revocation and virtual confirmation of her relationship with Healy â the pair were holding hands in other shots.
âAh, 1989 nails!â one fan commented on the blue manicure, referencing the starâs fifth album. Of course, this prompted many others to consider this a clue that 1989 will be her next Taylorâs Version rerecording. But what does that say about the summery orange shade from May 15? Something entirely new, some speculate.
Or maybe, just maybe, removal of glittery nail polish colors are her version of ripping your work clothes off in favor of something with an elastic waistband the moment you get home. Letâs just hope for the sake of her nail beds that sheâs on the non-acetone wave .
TFW making the whole place shimmer is your brand.
Is there anything happening in the music world that isnât related to Taylor Swift? Between the rotating surprise songs , big-name special guests , three-hour setlist , and seemingly endless outfit changes, thereâs so, so much to talk about when it comes to the singerâs Eras Tour alone. For dedicated Swifties, the concerts have become FYP-worthy fashion shows , with âfits ranging from sweet to spicy. One of the hardest decisions for attendees: choosing just one of Swiftâs 10 unique eras for the perfect tour âfit, then nailing down a Taylor Swift-themed manicure to match the vibes.
The Grammy winner herself has long used nails to complement her current eraâs look, introduce a new album , or even to make a poli-centric statement . Whether youâre one of the lucky ones headed to the Eras Tour this season, or youâre simply a Swiftie in need of new nail ideas, thereâs a mani look guaranteed to go with your preferred aesthetic. And you donât have to be a mastermind to nail any of the styles.
Below, youâll find your perfect Taylor Swift-inspired manicure, based on your fave album. Regardless of your choice, *bejeweled* doesnât even begin to describe it.
If Taylor Swiftâs debut album is your fave era...
Youâre a lover of the classics, and can probably reenact Swiftâs âShouldâve Said Noâ ACM performance like the back of your hand. Thatâs why a sweet sky blue manicure â topped off with butterfly nail stickers, as a nod to the Taylor Swift album cover â is the vibe for you to, you know, stay beautiful.
If Fearless is your fave era...
The multi-hyphenateâs endless rotation of glittery dresses during this breakthrough era will forever & always live rent-free in your mind. And with milky nails taking over TikTok , a milk manicure with gold foils is the best way for you to pay tribute to her Fearless album.
If Speak Now is your fave era...
A Speak Now (Taylor Version) release is your actual dream. (All those easter eggs canât be for nothing, right? Right??) But until that day comes, youâll continue to put the original on blast because itâs your No. 1 fave. To continue to show your dedication, go for this enchanted and sparkly purple mani thatâs a perfect match to the dress on the Speak Now cover. Itâs better than any sort of revenge you could plot.
If Red is your fave era...
The last time you listened to Red was probably, like, five minutes ago, and your life was forever changed when TayTay released the 10-minute version of âAll Too Well.â Lean into your lurv with a mani as classic as Swiftâs style during this era, complete with a heart accent â or maybe a broken heart, if youâre feeling angsty.
If 1989 is your fave era...
View on Instagram
Youâre the main character, and your appreciation for this Grammy-winning album â which changed pop music, for crying out loud â will never go out of style. Thatâs why an iridescent lavender mani, which will coordinate impeccably with the 1989 album cover, has been waiting for you.
If Reputation is your fave era...
A baddie to the extreme, you and the Reputation album are end game. Since youâve never been the same since the iconic, culture-resetting stadium tour, this green and gold mani would be gorgeous on your hands. Not only is it reminiscent of the snake imagery throughout the album, you could even dance with your hands tied and itâd still stand out.
If Lover is your fave era...
It must be nice to have a friend like you. Like the Lover album, youâre optimistic, free-spirited, and a hopeless romantic at heart. Youâre also probably a big fan of pastels, with pastel pink being your fave color. This marbled, Lover album-inspired mani will have your heartbeat skipping down 16th Avenue (or anywhere else in the world).
If Folklore is your fave era...
Cottagecore gets an instant yes from you, and you practically live in cardigans. Itâs almost like thereâs an invisible string tying you to this dreamy mani, with a shimmery pink base and a floral design that youâll dream of all year long.
If Evermore is your fave era...
Happiness, to you, is screaming âChampagne Problemsâ at the top of your lungs. No matter what day it is, âtis the damn season for a brown and plaid mani that gives all the cozy Evermore album cover vibes â all youâll need to add is a coat and a braid in your hair.
If Midnights is your fave era...
Taylor Swiftâs latest is the greatest for you. You do the âBejeweledâ strut every time you hear the song and order a Lavender Haze latte almost every time youâre at Starbucks these days. Checkmate, you couldnât lose in this midnight blue glittery mani with star accents, guaranteed to polish up real nice. The look is totally giving the same vibes as a Midnights manicure Swift did herself .
And of course, if youâre indecisive or if choosing one era is like choosing a favorite child, you can always take a lead from Tay and devote one nail to each of the 10 eras in a patchwork style.

Taylor Swiftâs âErasâ Manicure Is Also a Major Easter Egg — See Photos
By Vandana Pawa
The Eras Tour has officially begun , and Taylor Swift has the  manicure to match.Â
The pop star's latest tour kicked off in Glendale, Arizona (or Erazona , as Taylor has called it), on March 18, and fans were excited to see every bit of beauty and glam she had prepared for the show. The Eras Tour is an homage to Taylor's entire discography, a self-described  "journey through the musical eras" of her career, so it was only fitting that Taylor's manicure be on theme. Taylor posted a closeup of her nails before the tour opening night, and fans quickly caught on to the hidden meaning of each polish color.Â
Much like the tour itself, Taylor's new mani is also a walk down memory lane, with each of her fingernails representing one of the albums on her repertoire: dark blue for Midnights , beige for evermore , grey for folklore , pink for Lover , black for Reputation , teal for 1989,  red for Red , purple for Speak Now , gold for Fearless , and a bluish-green shade for Taylor Swift .
Taylor's love for referencing her work has been evidenced multiple times throughout her career, from music video motifs  representing her past selves and Easter eggs in song themes  to lyrical words of wisdom in commencement speeches . Now that she's in her Eras era, it's clear that throwbacks to the old Taylor will be abundant throughout this tour, and you can bet we'll be keeping our eyes out. In the meantime, we'll definitely be bringing this photo to the salon, so thanks for the nail art inspo, Taylor!

Red â Taylor Swift-Inspired Gel Nail Art
Perfect for beginners, this Taylor Swift-inspired nail art is simple yet stunning. Adorned with shimmer, sparkling stars and delicate hearts, this design effortlessly sets the stage for the âRedâ era.
Start with a coat of Fine Glitter Gel Nail Polish to sprinkle your nails with that sought-after sparkle. After curing, wipe down your nail with a Lint Free Wipe soaked in Gel Polish Remover , this will remove the tacky layer and help to ensure a seamless sticker application. Next, gently peel off your favourite heart from our Lover Nail Art Stickers and apply it to your nail. Itâs a good idea to use Nail Art Tweezers for precise placement, and Silicone Tools  come in handy for setting the Nail Stickers without any bubbles or creases. To create your dainty stars, dip a Dotting Tool into Whiteout and dot the centre of your star on the nail. Then, with a Thin Nail Art Brush , draw slender lines radiating from the centre to create your starâs points. Seal the deal with a Clear Rubber Top Coat , locking in your stickers and keeping your set fresh. I donât know about you, but weâre feeling red through and through.

Debut â Taylor Swift-Inspired Gel Nail Art
Flutter into your most magical era with these butterfly-winged beauties. A design for the OG Swifties, these stunners channel the glittering innocence of Taylor Swiftâs âDebutâ album.
For this look, weâve opted for blue magnetic polishes for a multi-dimensional glitter effect. Sectioning the nail into thirds, apply Fantasy Wishing Well to the bottom of the nail, before using the round head of your Nail Art Magnet to move the glitter around. Once happy, cure for 10 seconds. Repeat with Fantasy Hallucination and Fantasy Enchantment across the remaining two sections of your nail. Taking in the way your blue nails shine, begin painting your butterfly wing by first outlining the nail using a Thin Nail Art Brush and Black Out . Within your border, paint elongating petal-like shapes to mimic the delicate structure of a wing, and fill in the gaps. Highlight the design's intricate patterns by dotting Whiteout on the broader black sections, bringing your butterfly wing to life.Pairing perfectly with your Eras Tour friendship bracelets, a manicure that pays homage to Taylor Swiftâs debut album will always be adored.

Reputation â Taylor Swift-Inspired Gel Nail Art
Are you ready for it? A daring duo of black French Tips and slithering snakes, this âReputationâ-inspired design is the most wicked of them all. Not only badass, this defiant set is also easily achieved with our Snakes Nail Stickers .
Start with a pristine, neutral foundation by layering Pink Rubber Base , Pink Builder Gel and Spilt Milk for that signature blank canvas. Then, channel the albumâs edgy aesthetic by painting a sharp, black-glitter tip using a Thin Nail Art Brush and Starry Night . Previously struggled with freehand French tips and felt like you 'did something bad?' Simplify the process with our French Nail Tip Guides , tidying any edges with a Nail Art Brush before curing for a no-regrets finish. For your snake signature, peel off your favourite serpent from our sheet of Bad Reputation Stickers , and cleanse the nail with Remover . Trim as needed for a perfect fit, then firmly press it onto your nail with a Silicone Tool . Finally, seal in your masterpiece with a coat of Rubber Top Coat . Bold, unapologetic, and distinctly âReputationâ. Let the games begin.

Lover â Taylor Swift-Inspired Gel Nail Art
A love letter to the âLoverâ era, this manicure embraces the lighter, romantic side of Taylor Swiftâs dreamiest album.
Start with one to two coats of sky-blue polish, Rain Dance , and cure after each layer. Next, to echo this eraâs dreamy mood, apply Blooming Gel to your nails and leave it uncured. Following this, swipe pastel-hued darlings, Hey Sweets , Peach of Cake , Lemon Sorbet and Just White on a Resin Nail Art Palette to create a delicate canvas of colour. With your Oblique Brush scoop up Hey Sweets and Just White , waving them diagonally down the nail to create fluffy pink clouds reminiscent of the albumâs fairytale-like cover. Dab Lemon Sorbet down the sides for subtle bursts of sunshine, and surround your clouds with Peach of Cake for a stunning sunset vibe. Letting each layer whisper tales of pastel-hued love stories, complete the look with a hand-painted, Very Berry heart. Capturing âLoverâsâ sweet and soft aesthetic, this dreamy nail art is the perfect accompaniment to belting out the 'Cruel Summer' bridge from both the Eras Tour and your bedroom. Weâll always have a soft spot for this gel mani, âforever and everâ.

Bathed in moonlight, set the tone by first painting a striking French tip using a jet black Gel Nail Polish . Cure, and layer Fantasy Enchantment  over your French tip, a cool blue magnetic polish that brings dazzling depth to your manicure. Using the Gelous Nail Art Magnet , swirl the glitter into your desired pattern, and cure to capture the moment frozen in time. Next, bejewel your design with the reflective stars of our Enchanted Nail Stickers , strategically placed to sparkle like constellations in the midnight sky. How to Re-Create Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour Nails at Home
I n March, Taylor Swift kicked off The Eras Tour , her latest string of shows where she journeys through her musical periods. To celebrate this new phase, she shared a carousel on Instagram of behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsal with the caption, "In my Eras era." At the very end, you can see a snap of her nails
The manicure shot shows Swift dressed in embroidered overalls. She's holding up her hands to reveal a different nail polish color on each finger, which, given the theme of The Eras Tour, we have an inkling represents each of her studio albums. After all, 10 albums, 10 fingers, 10 colors. Some of the colors are quite obvious: the black polish on her right thumb is likely for "Reputation," the red on her left index finger is for "Red," and the pink with white hearts is for "Lover."
For the remaining hues, it helps to look at the album covers. The shimmery gold matches the artwork for "Fearless," and the deep green and blue on her self-titled debut could merge into the turquoise on her left thumb. "1989" has a washed-out peach color to match her right ring finger, and the deep purple on her left middle finger matches the deluxe edition of "Speak Now." Meanwhile, given Swift's fondness of the single "Lavender Haze" (it got both its own music video and a dedicated remix EP), the lavender on her middle finger could be for "Midnights."
Where the detective work gets tricky are the green hues - a light green on her left pinky and a forest green on her right. Our guess is the forest green hints at "Folklore," which depicts Swift in a forest, surrounded by tall pines and thick brush. Meanwhile, the light green on her left pinky could be for "Evermore" where Swift is pictured coming out of the wilderness.

How to Recreate Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour Nails
Taylor Swift Era Nails: No polish color is more reminescent of Swift's debut studio album than the CND Creative Play Nail Lacquer in Turquoise Tidings ($5).
Fearless Era Nails: For a megawatt manicure that matches Swift's Fearless-inspired look, try a shimmery gold hue like the Emilie Heathe Nail Artist Polish in Billions ($30).
Speak Now Era Nails: For this album, Swift chose a deep purple manicure with a shimmery finish. The near-perfect color match: the Essie Nail Polish in Flirt With Freedom ($10).
Red Era Nails: This era was all about the classics. Once you've landed on a signature red lip, swipe on an equally iconic nail shade like the Dior Vernis Gel Shine & Long Wear Nail Lacquer in Rouge ($30).
1989 Era Nails: A washed-out peachy hue matches the album's Polaroid aesthetic. We recommend the Static Nails Liquid Glass Lacquer in Peachy Keen ($16).
Reputation Era Nails : The dark, moody style of this album calls for inky black lacquer like the Essie Nail Polish in Licorice ($10).
Lover Era Nails: Swift's manicure featured a little nail art, so you'll need two polishes to recreate it at home. For the pink base, choose a baby pink color like the OPI Nail Lacquer in Two-Timing the Zones ($11). Then, draw on two tiny hearts with a white nail pen like the Nails.Inc Bright White Mani Marker Nail Art Pen ($5).
Folklore Era Nails: This era was all about greenery inspired by nature, which is why the Zoya Nail Polish in Ivanka ($10) is perfect.
Evermore Era Nails: Similar to Folklore, this nail look featured a green color, but in this case it was more about the metallic foil top coat. Swipe on a dark base of any hue, then top it off with the ILNP Chrome Nail Polish in Neon Rosebud ($13).
Midnights Era Nails: Swift went with a "Lavender Haze" inspired color featuring a holographic finish. You'll find exactly that with the Orly Breathable Nail Polish in Just Squid-ing ($11).
18 details you may have missed at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
- Taylor Swift's new movie, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," was filmed during her concerts in Los Angeles.
- There are many easy-to-miss details weaved into Swift's performance, from the screen to her fingernails.
- Everything we noticed is listed below in chronological order of the setlist.
The pre-show playlist includes Swift's friends and opening acts.
The playlist that precedes Swift's performance includes "My Song 5" by HAIM, "Number One Fan" by MUNA, and "True Blue" by boygenius , all of whom opened for Swift during the tour's first US leg.
It also features songs by close friends of Swift like Selena Gomez, Lana Del Rey, and Suki Waterhouse .
From the very first show back in March, the playlist even contained an Easter egg: "In Ha Mood" by Ice Spice, who hopped on a remix of "Karma" and joined Swift on stage in New Jersey .
Other notable staples include "That's What I Want" by Lil Nas X, "American Teenager" by Ethel Cain , and "Applause" by Lady Gaga, which is always the penultimate track.
Just before taking the stage, Swift always plays "You Don't Own Me" by Dusty Springfield.
"You Don't Own Me" was originally recorded by Lesley Gore, but Swift's playlist features the 1964 cover by Dusty Springfield.
The song plays when the countdown clock appears on the big screen. It includes poignant lyrics like "I'm not just one of your many toys" and "I'm free and I love to be free / To live my life the way that I want."
This could be a subtle message to Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun , whose purchase of Swift's masters spurred her to rerecord her first six albums .
In addition to signature hits like "Spooky" and "Son of a Preacher Man," Springfield was also known for rebelling against constraints in the music industry and meticulously crafting her own public image . According to biographers, she was often branded as "difficult" â although, in retrospect, this was more likely a reaction to a strong-willed woman in a male-dominated industry.
Springfield's love life was also a common source of tabloid fodder. In 1970, she publicly came out as bisexual and suffered an immediate plunge in commercial success . But 20 years later, she released an album titled "Reputation," which helped revive her career .
"Dusty was assumed to be a nightmare on a personal level," Neil Tennant, who coproduced the album, told The Telegraph in 2020 . "Couldn't sing any more. Probably some sort of drug addict. Whispers of sexuality, which was regarded as a problem. But the minute she walked in she was really sweet. And it was immediately evident she could sing as well as ever."
Swift's emergence on stage could be a subtle nod to the birth of Venus.
Swift arrives on stage by emerging from a cocoon of tapestries, which resembles the scallop shell in Sandro Botticelli's classic painting " The Birth of Venus ." In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of love .
The Eras Tour kicks off with songs from "Lover," Swift's seventh studio album , which she has described as "a love letter to love itself â all the captivating, spellbinding, maddening, devastating, red, blue, gray, golden aspects of it."
During "You Need to Calm Down," the crowd lights up with rainbows.
The 2019 single is Swift's most emphatic declaration of support for the LGBTQ+ community.
The music video is stuffed with bright colors and rainbows, which is reflected in the crowd during Swift's performance. (Upon arrival, concertgoers are given light-up bracelets that are programmed to follow the show's cues .)
After Swift sings "The Archer," the "Lover" house burns down.
The famous house first appeared in the "Lover" music video , which premiered in 2019.
The house is a key visual during the "Lover" segment of the Eras Tour. While real-life Swift sings the namesake ballad , the house is projected on the big screen with mini-Swift moving around inside.
At one point, mini-Swift can be seen wearing a yellow dress in the pink room. She moves towards the floor-length mirror and steps inside of it, disappearing from view (possibly as a literary reference to Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There").
After Swift sings "The Archer" (the final song in the "Lover" set, which isn't included in "The Eras Tour" movie ), golden sparks fall from the top of the stage. Meanwhile, on the big screen, the visual of the house catches on fire .
During "Fearless," the stage mimics Swift's guitar.
Fans with floor tickets may not be able to see the intricate stage visuals beneath Swift's feet.
While she sings the title track from her second album "Fearless," the stage transforms into a sparkling silver guitar, much like the one Swift uses in real life.
The "Willow" performance is a personification of the song's vision.
For her performance of "Willow," Swift dons a green cloak and simulates witchcraft with her coven of dancers, mirroring a key scene from the song's music video .
Swift herself said "Willow" is about "intrigue, desire and the complexity that goes into wanting someone."
She told fans, "I think it sounds like casting a spell to make someone fall in love with you."
While Swift sings "Delicate," the floor appears to crack beneath her feet.
Swift's performance of "Delicate" is tightly choreographed. As she moves around the central diamond, she stomps her feet in certain moments. Each stomp seems to create a crack in the stage.
With one final hop at the end of the bridge, the entire stage appears to shatter .
Her shadow is snake-shaped during the "Reputation" segment.
Yet another sneaky detail on stage, invisible to the average floor-ticket holder, is that Swift's shadow takes the shape of a snake while she sings "Look What You Made Me Do."
During her infamous feud with Kim Kardashian and Ye in 2016 , Swift was compared to a snake by critics online, who believed her to be untrustworthy. So Swift adopted the serpent as her sigil when she released "Reputation," an album that partially served as a response to those critics.
Her performance of "Look What You Made Me Do" calls back to the music video.
In the self-referential music video for "Look What You Made Me Do," Swift stands atop a pile of her own personas.
She recreates this moment during the Eras Tour with dancers dressed in her old outfits, all clamoring to push her off the main platform.
After Swift released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," she began using a guitar from the original "Speak Now" era.
Swift announced "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" during her concert on May 5.
After the album was released on July 7, Swift added the fan-favorite track "Long Live" to the setlist. (Unfortunately, the song was cut from the movie.)
Swift always plays the song using her iconic instrument from the 2011 "Speak Now" tour: a blue acoustic guitar with koi-fish inlays . She previously teased the guitar's reappearance in the "Lavender Haze" music video.
After less than one month on the road, Swift swapped "Invisible String" for "The 1."
Of course, extremely online Swifties will be well aware of this change. But less fixated fans may not be aware that "Invisible String," a tender love song, was the original opener for the tour's "Folklore" segment. Now, it's "The 1," a heartbreak anthem for wistful nostalgics.
The switch came shortly before news broke that Swift had split from her longtime partner Joe Alwyn .
Swift's fingernails are always painted in the order of her album releases.
For every show on the Eras Tour, Swift's fingers are freshly painted with a specific color combination , ordered according to her studio album releases: green for "Taylor Swift," gold for "Fearless," purple for "Speak Now," red for "Red," light blue for "1989," black for "Reputation," pink for "Lover," gray for "Folklore," beige for "Evermore," and sparkly blue for "Midnights."
The golf club prop during "Blank Space" is another music video reference.
In the music video for "Blank Space," Swift plays a parody of her own boy-obsessed persona. Once her latest fling disappoints her, she takes a golf club to his fancy car â living up to the lyric, "I've got a long list of ex-lovers, they'll tell you I'm insane."
Swift references the video on the Eras Tour by wielding a neon-lit golf club and standing atop a fancy car.
She also carried a golf club while performing the song on The 1989 World Tour.
The "Lover" house burns again while Swift sings "Bad Blood."
Swift's pyro-packed performance of "Bad Blood" sees the return of the "Lover" house.
On the big screen, Swift struts through the house in a dramatic black outfit. She takes a seat at her vanity and flicks a lighter into the wreck .
The facade goes up in bright blue flames, perhaps to match the "1989" color scheme , or maybe as a reference to the "All Too Well" lyric, "Did the twin-flame bruise paint you blue?"
The lighter itself could be a reference to the original "Midnights" album cover, which includes a close-up photo of Swift striking a lighter.
Swift's song "Ivy," the 10th track on "Evermore," also includes the lyric, "He's gonna burn this house to the ground."
The "Lover" arches return during the "Midnights" segment.
"Lover" and "Midnights" act as bookends in the Eras Tour setlist, like the sun coming up and going down.
Fans have long theorized the albums are like sisters; according to Swift, the original title for "Lover" was "Daylight." The similar set design for each segment serves to underscore this connection.
The "Anti-Hero" performance highlights the difference between Swift's real self and onstage persona.
In the "Anti-Hero" music video, Swift creates an explicit contrast between her private and public selves .
During the second verse, an oversized version of Swift crawls into a dining room full of regular-sized people.
"Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby / And I'm a monster on the hill," she sings. "Too big to hang out, slowly lurching toward your favorite city / Pierced through the heart, but never killed."
When she sings "Anti-Hero" on the Eras Tour, another massive version of Swift appears on the big screen, wearing a similar striped top. She stalks through a tiny city, huffing and puffing in frustration. She looks out into the audience and screams silently, waving her hands and pointing to her chest .
Meanwhile, the onstage Swift skips around in a sparkly T-shirt dress , looking comparatively small and cheery.
During "Mastermind," the stage resembles a chess board.
"Mastermind" is the penultimate song in the setlist. In the "Midnights" track, Swift describes herself as a "Machiavellian" genius and compulsive planner .
During her performance of the song, the stage is lit up in black-and-white squares, resembling a chessboard. During the second verse, her dancers stand in a specific formation, only moving forward when Swift gestures to them like a puppeteer.

Currently in Our Taylor Swift Nail Lacquer Era
In case you havenât seen it on social media, Taylor Swift along with thousands of her fans have been spotted wearing an âerasâ inspired manicure. Each nail features a different colour for each of Taylorâs albums, so this week in the blog we are going to create an eras-inspired mani with all butter LONDON nail lacquer!
Taylor Swifts Debut album is the one that started it all! This country album features Taylor embracing her Pennsylvania roots with a Nashville twang as she wore cowboy boots and sundresses. Her boho style during this era goes perfectly with Garden Party ! This green crème Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer is inspired by simple, rural life and celebrating the countryside, making it the perfect colour for debut!
Next up on the T-Swift roster, we have Fearless! Fearless is where her country-pop music began as she wore princess-inspired gowns and schoolgirl attire during this iconic era. Champagne Princess is our go-to Fearless Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer as this pearlescent champagne has the perfect hint of shimmer and would go perfectly with Taylor Swiftâs sparkly style.
Speak Now is the era of all things purple! Speak Now was Taylorâs first solo-written album where she embraced the pop music style and wore preppy clothes with collared dresses and a fairytale-inspired twist. English Lavender is the perfect Speak Now colour as this soft purple crème Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer perfectly complements the iconic Speak Now gown seen on the album cover.
Red is the era where Taylor Swift embraced her stardom! Taylor loved the autumn weather during this album as she wore chunky scarves and high-waisted shorts with a pop of red everywhere she went. We think that Knees Up is the perfect red as the metallic Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer shimmers with every movement.
1989 is the era when Ms. Swift moved to New York and shifted her style to an uptown-girl look with high heels, skirts, and brighter colours! Candy Floss is the perfect 1989 colour as this soft powder blue Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer is a bubbly fresh colour that effortlessly represents 1989.
Reputation was the complete opposite of Fearless and Speak Now Taylor Swift, which made this an incredible transformation. To mark the end of the âold Taylorâ during this era, what color could we possibly choose besides Union Jack ? This deep Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer embraces the dark colours Taylor wore during this snake-themed era.
Perhaps the true opposite of Reputation, Taylor Swift released Lover! This album was full of joy as Swift recorded some of her top pop hits and embraced bright colours and bubblegum pink. Piece of Cake is the perfect âLoverâ pink as this Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer has a bright yet soft hue. However, Piece of Cake would not be complete without a coat of Bespoke Lace Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer over top to leave behind a lacy, flower-like design that screams Lover!
folklore was the album that was released during the COVID-19 shutdown as Taylor retreated to isolation and wrote her most indie album yet. Taylor wore summery cottage-core-inspired attire, which is why Cotswold Cottage is the perfect nail colour! This Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer was inspired by the simplicities of life and blissful cottagecore aesthetics.
Only a few months after folklore, Taylor surprised Swifties with the sister album titled evermore. This album was soft and slow with ethereal songs as Taylor Swift wore maxi gowns and plaid jackets with her curly bangs. We think that London Fog embraces the evermore style as this Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer features a soft and stormy colour with hints of blue.
Last but not least, we have Taylorâs most recent album titled Midnights! This album is full of glitz and glam as Taylor released some fan-favorite pop hits and set off the Eras tour itself. During this era, Ms. Swift wore disco-inspired glamour with show-stopping textures, making Brolly the perfect deep navy Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer. However, this âMidnightsâ mani would not be complete without one to two coats of All You Need is Love Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer to add the glam that Midnights deserves.

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is the queen of Easter eggs. Since the early days of her career, the superstar has regularly planted clues, hints and callbacks in her music videos, live appearances, interviews and even the liner notes in her albums.
“I love to communicate through Easter eggs,” Swift said in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly to help kick off her Lover era. “I think the best messages are cryptic ones. … You know, when you plan something that far in advance, you’re kind of just flexing on planning. That’s what an Easter egg really does.”
So it should come as no surprise to Swifties that The Eras Tour is no exception to their queenâs masterminded penchant for hyper-specific planning and eye for gorgeous, perfectly plotted detail â all the way down to the colors painted on her nails during tour rehearsals.
Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour Outfits: Then and Now
As the U.S. leg of the wildly anticipated tour kicked off, fans at the first two shows in Glendale, Ariz. â and later across the Internet, thanks to #SwiftTok â paid keen attention to each of the singer’s choices onstage. From her costumes to her choreography, and even the songs she included (or didn’t) on the setlist, nearly every detail elicited wild analysis and speculation for what it all could mean.
Below, Billboard rounds up an ongoing list of Easter eggs spotted by fans as The Eras Tour makes its way across America. Read on to discover what hidden messages and surprises many a Swiftie surmises the star could be sending from the stage.
The 'Red (Taylor's Version)' T-Shirt
During the part of the setlist where Taylor revisits her Red era, she dons a T-shirt similar to the one she wears in the music video for 2012’s “22.” In the visual, the shirt spells out “Not a lot going on at the moment,” which would go on to become a famously surefire sign to Swifties around the world that their queen was, indeed, working on a major surprise. (See: the one-two punch of 2020’s Folklore and Evermore .)
However, on the opening night of the tour (March 17), Tay’s shirt rewrote the phrase to read “A lot going on at the moment” in bold block letters, with “A lot” sticking out in bright red. The next night, the shirt changed to a spoken lyric from “22”: “Who’s Taylor Swift anyway? Ew.” This time, “Ew.” was highlighted in red.
One fan on TikTok thought the red words would eventually lead to an anagram spelling out “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” While the shirts didn’t make it all the way through Speak Now , Swift did, in fact, announce the 2010 third studio album as her next re-recording, out July 7 .
Breaking 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' Out Of Its Box?
Footage of Swift performing Reputation lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” piqued fans’ curiosity as multiple backup singers seeming to represent her many album eras appeared on stage trapped in giant plastic boxes.
Given the rampant online fan speculation that Speak Now would be the next re-recording the star plans to drop, special attention was paid to the backup vocalist in the box wearing a purple halter dress remarkably similar to an outfit Swift wore on her Speak Now World Tour throughout 2011 and 2012. As Taylor approaches her box, the star pounds on the glass along to the beat as the singer inside tries to get out. At first glance, the moment looks innocuously like part of the choreography, but many Swifties surmised that it could represent the pending release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , which had been entangled in legal red tape over trademark and copyright issues until earlier this week.
Interestingly, most of the other singers-as-album eras are eventually freed from their boxes, but by song’s end, the Speak Now avatar and one other singer representing a mystery era remain stuck inside theirs.
Check out fan-captured video of the moment on TikTok .
Of course, the theory was confirmed May 5, when Swift officially announced Speak Now  (Taylorâs Version)  at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
'Speak Now' or Later?
Another Speak Now theory came in a reverse Easter egg. So far, her setlist is one for the ages â 44 songs from 10 albums over the course of three hours and fifteen minutes. But out all the fan favorites she performed at Arizona’s State Farm Arena during the first two shows, she included only a single song from 2010’s Speak Now in the form of album cut and originally planned title track “Enchanted.”
The absence of hits such as “Mine,” “Back to December,” “Dear John,” “Mean” and “The Story of Us” felt like a glaring omission, but as with everything Taylor does, the choice may have been entirely intentional. Plenty of fans theorized that the singer was purposely minimizing the attention of her third album because she could be on the precipice of releasing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) .
The Light-Up Wristband Colors
OK, one more Speak Now Easter Egg for good measure. A week before Swift’s announcement that Taylor’s Version of her third album is on the way, she teased Eras Tour attendees at Atlantaâs Mercedes-Benz Stadium when their light-up wristbands turned purple at the end of the show, a color that represents Speak Now .
A Manicure for Her 'Eras Era'
One day ahead of the tour, Tay shared a sneak peek at the rehearsal process on social media, coyly writing, “In my Eras era” alongside a carousel of photos from the stage. The last snap in the slideshow, though, showed off the star’s delicate manicure featuring a different shade on each finger representing a separate album era â sparkling gold for Fearless (Taylor’s Version) , shiny teal for 1989 , matte black for Reputation , and so on.
The 'Bejeweled' TikTok Dance
She can make the whole stadium shimmer! During the portion of the setlist dedicated to 2022’s Midnights , fans took notice when Swift broke into the viral “Bejeweled” choreography created by TikTok user Mikael Arellano, strutting across the stage with her dancers before twirling and doing the creator’s “twinkle fingers” move with her hand. Watch Arellano’s giddy reaction to seeing the dance here .
