“I did the Christmas version of Strictly the other year,” said Skelton. “The hair is the best, the makeup is incredible, the costumes are incredible. Who gets to go to work and be made to look a bit like Beyonce and have a fun time?
“I thought this is madness to not do it, of course I should do it, it will be so much fun.”
Strictly Come Dancing begins on 23 September on BBC One.

See you next year!
And that’s the end of another Strictly, and as ever it’s been an absolute joy, made infinitely better by all of you in the comment box. After another difficult year for many, Strictly remains a much-needed retreat for comfort and joy - also this blog is one of the few remaining corners of the internet that feels like a warm hug, so well done everyone.
My liveblog duties are over for another year, but you can find me on Twitter and Instagram @heidistephens if you want to say hello, and I also write books of a romantic comedy nature so you can definitely buy those too. They make lovely stocking fillers, just saying.
Have a wonderful Christmas however you’re celebrating, and please stay safe and warm and healthy – there’ll be a blog open for the Strictly Christmas Special if you fancy some company. Hopefully we’ll gather back here next September to do this all again, but in the meantime I’m sending the warmest of wishes to you and yours. Keeeeeep dancing!
Time to announce the winner of Strictly 2022! And it’s… HAMZA AND JOWITA !
Well, that’s a lovely finish to this year’s show – Hamza has captured the spirit of Strictly and the heart of a nation. He described Jowita as ‘an angel disguised as a human’, and shares some lovely Hamza wisdom. But every one of those finalists absolutely smashed it tonight, they all worked so hard and gave us one hell of a show.
Hamza and Jowita lift the glitterball, and some rubbish fireworks go off. One final rendition of ‘Hold On’ by Wilson Phillips and we are DONE.
Another montage! This time from members of the public, saying what they love about Strictly. I’ve never watched it like a normal person, I have no idea what that’s like, but it looks nice.
It’s a plug for the Christmas Special! I didn’t put that in the Bingo this year, but drink anyway. There will definitely be a blog open for you to play in, albeit entirely unsupervised.
The voting is closed!
Time for a dance featuring the entire Class of 2022, opening with ‘I Will Survive’ by Gloria Gaynor, then swiftly morphing into an eighties megamix. This is obviously a hot mess fever dream, but I’m actually loving it – the props and transitions are entirely mad. I’m going to have to watch it again later to catch all the details.
Also ‘The Only Way Is Up’ is the title of my latest novel. Come on, you didn’t really think I was going to let that pass, did you?
Let’s recap of the entire series, shall we? Still a bit sad that we lost Richie and Giovanni and Jayde and Karen so early on, but it’s been a really great bunch this year. I know not everything has been perfect, but I’ve loved every minute.
Time for a musical interlude from Florence and the Machine singing ‘My Love’. We don’t get many Glastonbury headliners on Strictly, so let’s embrace being momentarily cool and give festive thanks that we were spared Boe and Ball this season.
Where’s the sound gone? It sounds like Florence is singing whilst trapped inside the machine.
For the music, it has to be Molly – Beyonce, Prince and Whitney is very much my jam. For being a genuinely beautiful human, it has to be Hamza. For being the best dancer, it’s got to be Fleur. For the journey, it’s Helen. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE?
That’s it’s for dancing, although we inexplicably still have 25 minutes to go. At least 15 of those minutes will be used by Tess pausing before she announces the winner – presumably the rest is going to be recaps and montages and Florence and The Machine.
Who do you reckon is going to lift the Glitterball? The leaderboard has Fleur at the top, then Helen, then Molly, then Hamza at the bottom. But those scores mean NOTHING – it’s all down to you now. Who’s it going to be? VOTE NOW!
Scores: 10,10,10,10 – a full house for Helen and Gorka.
What a dance, says Motsi – Helen closed the show and it was amazing. Shirley thought Helen peaked at the right time, it was clean and polished and they are superstars. Anton says he has danced in a few of these (what, finals? Just the one, isn’t it Anton?) – Helen has discovered her inner performer. Craig thought it was a dance that should win a final – it was incredible.
Shirley has full faith that the public will make the right decision. I mean, years of election evidence suggests otherwise, but sure.

Strictly Come Dancing 2022 start date: When's the launch date?
Typically, Strictly Come Dancing gets pride of place in the autumn/winter schedule on BBC One.
This year will be no different, with pro-dancer Johannes Radebe confirming on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast that the show will be back on Saturday, September 17.
"We can't face winter without Strictly , so I'm happy it's back on our screens," he told host AJ Odudu, who competed in last year's series, only to be forced to drop out of the final when she suffered an injury.
The BBC's also confirmed the new series will record the launch show on Wednesday, September 7 in a callout for audience members, meaning viewers will likely see the celebrity contestants paired up with their dance partners that weekend.
The contestants then get time to practice ahead of the first live show, with weekly episodes (main show on Saturday, results on Sunday) then continuing until the finale in a usual series.
At the end of July 2022, it was revealed pro rehearsals had officially begun, with the cast sharing selfies from the dance studios – meaning the countdown was officially on.

"I've been watching Strictly from as far back as I can remember; it's a traditional lead up to Christmas with my family and it's a genuine privilege to be part of it."

"I am SO gassed to be joining the Strictly family. As I started writing this I already got cramp. It's going to be one crazy incredible journey which will no doubt be SO far outside my comfort zone," he said.
"It's a show that means so much to me and my family and I can't wait to seriously shake a leg on that shiny dance floor… with a side of sequins."
Shortly after the announcement, Tyler scared fans by sharing pictures of him in a hospital waiting room.
However, he quickly cleared up the issue and said: "Everything is A-OK, A-OK, it weren't me it's family stuff but thank you all for checking in. Good vibes, nothing wrong."

"I've watched the show for years so to be able to take to the dance floor is a dream come true, for both me and mum who is a Strictly superfan! At the moment I'm focusing on the excitement and glitter and choosing to ignore the fact that I have the dancing ability of a newly born giraffe. Bring it on!"

What did they say? Fleur announced her participation on August 11 during her Hits Radio show, before appearing on Lorraine . She also revealed the sentimental reason she decided to take part.

"I'm going to be doing it for him. I'm just gutted he can't see me do it, but I'm going to keep him in mind during the show… I'm excited, my family, just for that reason, will be buzzing. I wasn't expecting to get this emotional about it."
Hamza Yassin
Who? CBeebies and Countryfile TV presenter
What did they say? "I am absolutely over the moon to be joining Strictly 2022. Never in a million years did I think I'd be on such a cool show. I've been watching it for years and I can't believe I'll actually be there dancing live in front of the British public.
"My dance skills are currently at the level of '1970s disco vibe' but I'm ready to work hard and will be shaking it every time I get the chance – shake it 'til you make it!"
Who? Actor, best known as Martin Fowler in EastEnders .
What did they say? "I'm not known for my shimmy or my twinkle toes – in fact my kids regularly laugh at my dad dancing but it's an honour to be asked and I'm going to give it my best shot.
"There are some huge dance shoes to fill and it's truly exciting to follow in the footsteps of some amazing EastEnders talent. I'd love to do everyone proud."
Helen Skelton
Who? TV and radio broadcaster, Countryfile presenter
What did they say? "I'm really excited to get stuck into a fun adventure. My family and friends have always loved the show and can't wait for me to get started.
"I literally only said yes the other day... I did the Christmas one years and years ago and the hair, makeup and costumers were incredible. Who gets to go to work and be made to look a bit like Beyoncé and have a fun time? So I just thought: 'This is madness to not do it, of course I should do it, it'll be so much fun."
She later elaborated to The Mirror: " I just want my kids to believe they can do anything they want. I want to show them that if Mummy can do it, then they can do it too. I just want to be a good role model and lead by example."
Strictly Come Dancing 2022 judges: Who will be in the hot seats?
The Strictly Come Dancing judges panel has had a bit of a change up this year, with Anton Du Beke taking a permanent spot on the team alongside Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and head judge Shirley Ballas.
The long-standing member of the Strictly team moved away from the competition and over to the judges' desk to temporarily replace Bruno Tonioli in the 2021 series, after Bruno's commitments with Dancing With the Stars in the US made it impossible to travel and keep within Covid guidelines.
Before 2020, Bruno would commute back and forth between LA and London every week, but with a close cohort environment in place to keep Strictly on-air, plus a requirement to quarantine after international travel, his involvement became a logistical nightmare.
While Bruno has appeared in video messages, he's been largely absent for the past two years. In 2020, the judges panel was simply reduced, with Anton stepping in for an episode when Motsi was forced to return to Germany for a family emergency. But when Bruno was unavailable again in 2021, Anton was given a full trial away from the dancefloor.
Anton is an original member of the Strictly cast, having been with the show throughout its entire run. After the one-off stint on the panel in 2020 (he was eliminated from the competition in week two with Jacqui Smith), his 2021 appearance as a full-timer proved to be a trial run and a hit.
In May 2022, Bruno confirmed on The One Show that he will no longer be a permanent judge, wishing Anton well as he takes over in an official position.
However, he added on the BBC chat show fans should "never count [him] out" of returning to the show at a later date, or taking part in the live tour.
"Anton, you've done a fantastic job, you deserve it. It's a 10 from me," Bruno said while holding up a glittery judging paddle. "Carry on, do me proud – but you've already done that anyway."
Anton's permanent move to the judges' table has also been supported by long-time judge Craig Revel Horwood .
"There are only so many years you can be front-row dancing, then the second row, then the third and fourth," he told The Sun . "Then the only place left, darling, is a dancer's sheer death – in the wings. I was pleased they got him off the dancefloor and then put him where he belongs."
However, in September 2022 Anton was forced to deny there was a rift between him and his predecessor, after Bruno joked that the pro dancer "needed the money".
He told The Sun : "I think he was just mucking around. I can imagine him saying it. I think it looked more punchy than it was. So I didn't get the hump over it at all. It actually made me laugh."
Strictly Come Dancing 2022 professional dancers: Who is back?
Get ready, folks – Strictly Come Dancing is ramping things up this year with its biggest ever professional line-up. 20 dancers will be hitting the series, including four new faces.
This year, the announcement of who would remain on the show came at the end of March, when the 2022 professional line-up was confirmed on Morning Live .
Returning to the series are: Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Johannes Radebe and Nancy Xu.
Nikita Kuzmin, Jowita Przystal and Kai Widdrington, who all joined the show last year will also be returning to the line-up, while South African dance champion Cameron Lombard has also been confirmed.
Executive producer Sarah James said of the line-up: "We could not be more proud of the Strictly professional dancers and we are so happy to have so many returning for 2022.
"The world-class skill and extraordinary care they bring to everything they do, from working with their celebrity partners to choreographing and performing remarkable and unforgettable routines, never ceases to amaze us.
"They really are the best in the business and we can’t wait to see what they bring to the Strictly ballroom for our twentieth fabulous series."
In July 2022, in the weeks running up to the celebrity line-up reveal, it was announced there was four more new stars joining the ranks .
Those newbies are: Vito Coppola, European cup winner; Carlos Gu, Chinese National Champion; Lauren Oakley, former Under-21 British National Champion; and Michelle Tsiakkas, Latin dance champion.
Vito had already let slip about his upcoming participation of the series on live TV back in his native Italy, after appearing on Ballando con le Stelle – the country's version of Strictly.
During the interview, he said (via The Sun ): "It was a sudden thing, I'm putting my ideas in order, but I'm happy and I can't wait."
The new line-up additions come after the show lost two of its fan favourites – Oti Mabuse and Aljaz Skorjanec. Oti was first to announce her goodbye to the series , announcing her exit on Instagram in February 2022.
The two-time champion thanked members of the team and celebrated her love of the show, before announcing: "I'm honestly so grateful to The BBC and will always remember that Strictly and BBC brought me to the UK – which I now call home and I have learnt and grown so much. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.
"I can't put in to words how difficult this decision has been, but I have decided not to return for the next series.
"Dance will always be my first love and to everyone, my family especially, friends, Strictly fans and judges who have been my support throughout my Strictly journey, thank you for being incredible!
"You are irreplaceable in my heart and have made everyday unforgettable! I love you.
"I will always Keeeep Dancing! and I will never forget my amazing Strictly experience! Lots of Love Oti xxx"
A month later, Aljaž confirmed he would also be leaving the series after nine years , confirming rumours that had started in the previous year.
Sharing a statement on his Instagram , the 32-year-old uploaded a collage of photos from his time on the show and wrote that the show "changed his life forever".
"A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last," he said as part of the statement.
"The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last 9 years. The love and support I got from the team of producers was second to none."
He went on to thank his wife, fellow former Strictly star Janette Manrara, as well as several members of the cast and crew, and all of his previous dance partners.
"Being a part of a group of professionals that inspire and push you to be better every step of the way is humbling and I will carry that inspiration with me forever," he concluded.
Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two: Will spin-off return and who's hosting?
Strictly wouldn't be the same without the daily debrief show letting us in behind the scenes on BBC Two.
It's been confirmed the show will be back , with Janette Manrara and Rylan Clark back in business as the hosts.
The duo will be back every weeknight from Monday, September 26 to discuss all things Strictly , from the backstage gossip and rehearsal room drama, to regular segments that include interviews with the contestants and judges.
"I'm so excited to be back at Strictly – It Takes Two for my fourth year," Rylan shared. "I absolutely love being part of the show.
"I'm so thrilled that my television wife Janette is joining me for the ride and we can't wait to bring you all the backstage gossip from this year's Strictly extravaganza. We can't wait to start."
Janette added: "I am so thrilled to be back hosting It Takes Two alongside the amazing Rylan! I'm very excited to bring the audience more great conversations with our couples, a lot of fun weeknight television entertainment and, of course, to celebrate my favourite show on TV, Strictly !"
Strictly Come Dancing starts on Saturday, September 17 on BBC One.

Will there be a Strictly Come Dancing tour in 2022?
One of the best parts of the Strictly Come Dancing season is the tour. But will the 2021 series of the glitzy BBC dance show have a tour next year?
Strictly Come Dancing: The Live Tour! is a nationwide arena tour which started in 2008 and has continued every year since.
It is directed and co-choreographed by judge Craig Revel Horwood .
The 2021 tour was cancelled due to the pandemic, but there’s good news for fans enjoying the current series .
Here’s the lowdown.
The 2022 Strictly tour was announced in October, and is scheduled to begin on January 20, 2022 in Birmingham.
There will be 33 shows in venues up and down the country.
Cities lucky enough to experience the show include Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Nottingham and London.
Which celebrities, professionals and judges will be in the show?
Judge Bruno Tonioli recently revealed that he will be reprising his role on the panel for the 2022 live shows.
He’ll join fellow judges Craig and Shirley Ballas .
Speaking on a recent episode of The One Show , the professional dancer updated fans on life in LA, amid his stint on the current series of Dancing With The Stars .
His Strictly seat is currently being kept warm by Anton Du Beke , formerly the show’s longest-running professional dancer.
It is still unclear whether Anton will remain in the role for good, but the US-based judge said he ‘can’t wait’ to see the celebs in action on tour.
Bruno refused, however, to comment on their performances in the series so far, as the show is more difficult to watch in the States.
‘I’m [in] LA, we don’t have BBC One here, I follow it online. It would be very inappropriate for me to make any comments,’ he said.
As for the celebrity contestants and their professional partners , the tour line-up is usually announced towards the end of the series.
It is likely that the winner of this year’s glitterball will hit the road, along with the runners up.
Fan favourite pros can be expected to put in an appearance, as well as some other faces, as additional professionals whose celeb partners were eliminated usually tag along.
Sorry, this video isn't available any more.
Can I buy tickets to the Strictly 2022 tour?
Tickets for the tour are on sale now.
You can buy them from Ticketmaster from £51.75.
This means fans can already book and countdown the days until they get to dance in their seats to their favourite numbers and watch their favourite dancers in action.
Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.
Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight on BBC One at 7:15pm.

Strictly's Nadiya Bychkova shares intimate clinch with boyfriend Kai Widdrington after relationship pledge
The strictly come dancing stars began dating in 2022.
- dianeshipley
Nadiya Bychkova balances being a proud mum to her daughter Mila with her work as a dancer and her relationship with her boyfriend Kai Widdrington – although sometimes she gets to combine the latter two, to her obvious delight.
On Sunday, the star took to her Instagram Stories, where she re-shared a sweet image taken by a fan of the pair at the end of a passionate performance, which saw Kai holding his partner with his head buried in her neck .
Kai was dressed all in black, while his girlfriend sparkled in a slinky gold dress. The blonde beauty didn't caption the image, allowing the drama of the moment to speak for itself.
The embrace comes after Nadiya and Kai went public about their relationship plans . Last month, the pair exchanged sweet messages on Instagram, where they revealed their hopes for their future together.
It's safe to say Kai is besotted with his beau and confessed she is "My Valentine forever," in a touching post on 14 February.
The feeling is clearly mutual, with the mum-of-one posting her own Valentine's photo which showed herself and Kai kissing in front of a sculpture spelling out the word LOVE. Nadiya captioned the image: "Happy Valentine's Day," adding a heart emoji and the infinity symbol.
Before falling in love with her fellow Strictly dancer, Nadiya was engaged to Slovenian footballer Matija Skarabot, with whom she shares her seven-year-old daughter.
As she previously revealed in an exclusive interview with HELLO! , the youngster was Nadiya's main concern when she started dating Kai . "This was my first relationship after not being with the father of my daughter, and being a mother to Mila was and still is my priority," the professional dancer sweetly said.
"When you're a mum, you don’t jump into a relationship saying: 'I'm in love,' and that's it. It's a big responsibility and I'm very protective of my daughter."
The pair initially kept their relationship under wraps but have increasingly made public appearances together, including showing off some moves on Loose Women recently .
The couple were dressed to the nines in full ballroom gear for their live TV moment and Nadiya looked like a Hollywood star as she donned a glittering halter neck gown in a flattering nude shade.

Captioning the post alongside her beloved, she penned: "Loose Women ready [kissing face emoji]." It wasn't just her camera-ready outfit that looked flawless as her vibrant blonde tresses were immaculately styled into chic waves.

- Kristina Rihanoff and Ben Cohen were partnered together on the show in 2013, confirming their romance in 2014. They share a daughter together, Mila, who was born in 2018.
As for her makeup, Nadiya opted for flattering black winged eyeliner, brushes of honey-hued bronzer and nude lipstick. Meanwhile, Kai looked ultra-slick in a crisp white suit complete with a black bowtie.
Nadiya rested her head on Kai's cheek in the candid behind-the-scenes shot before filming themselves having a twirl backstage. Her toned physique was displayed in her dazzling gown that featured a dramatic low back.
The stars even gave a glimpse of their rehearsal before stepping out on the live show and looked sensational as they danced across the studio.

Combining geometric constraint and redox non-innocence within an ambiphilic pbip pincer ligand.
The synthesis of the first pincer ligand featuring a strictly T-shaped group 15 element and its coordination behaviour towards transition metals is described. The platform is itself derived from a trianionic redox non-innocent NNN scaffold. In addition to providing a rigid coordination environment to constrain a Bi centre in a T-shaped geometry to manipulate its frontier molecular orbital constitution, the NNN chelate displays highly covalent bonding towards the geometrically constrained Bi centre. The formation of intriguing ambiphilic Bi–M bonding interactions is demonstrated upon formation of a pincer complex as well as amultimetallic cluster. All compounds are comprehensively characterised by spectroscopic methods including X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy and complemented by DFT calculations.

DraftKings preview: Back Sam Burns at Valspar Championship
Golfbet News
Change Text Size
The PGA TOUR heads to Palm Harbor, Florida, this week for the Valspar Championship. The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort will be the host and measures as a 7,340-yard par 71 with Poa Trivialis over-seeded greens.
Despite this not being a Signature Event, there's a strong field this week, headlined at the top by two-time champion Sam Burns, alongside last week’s PLAYERS Championship runner-up, Xander Schauffele.
Below, I have outlined three of my favorite DraftKings plays for the week.
Sam Burns ($10,900)
This event might as well be known as the Burns Invitational, as no one else in the field comes close to having the course history that Burns does at Copperhead. He posted back-to-back wins here in 2021 and 2022, before a T6 last year and a T12 in 2018. Burns has failed to miss a cut here in five trips, with his worst finish being T30 in 2019. It will come as no surprise that Burns leads this field in Strokes Gained: Total per round at Copperhead, sitting a 2.48 per.
The majority of those strokes have come from his elite putting at this event, as Burns also leads this field with a mark of 1.68 strokes gained per round on the greens. Burns’ performance at THE PLAYERS was a roller coaster ride, but he ultimately gained strokes in both ball-striking categories, as well as around-the-green, in what culminated with a T45 finish.
I will forgive Burns for one sub-par week, as he’d just gone on a run of four top-10s across his previous five starts. I expect him to get right back on track this week at arguably his favorite course on the PGA TOUR.
Doug Ghim ($8,400)
It’s impossible to ignore the run that Ghim has been on of late. He finished T16 last week at THE PLAYERS, which marked his fifth straight top-16 dating back to the Farmers Insurance Open. He also ranks No. 2 in this field in Total Strokes Gained over the past 24 rounds, trailing only Schauffele.
Ghim’s resurgence has been his putting, which went from a major liability into a real strength. Ghim has gained strokes on the greens in four of his last five starts, including 7.9 combined over the past two weeks.
After missing the cut in his first start at the Valspar in 2021, Ghim posted a T27 last year, a finish I fully expect him to build on this week. He is laying the foundation for his first-career PGA TOUR victory, and at the minimum is a great play this week at $8,400
Doug Ghim’s “Better Than Most” chip-in is Shot of the Day
Matt NeSmith ($6,500)
NeSmith has had a rough go lately, making just two of his last five cuts. However, he finally showed signs of improvement at THE PLAYERS with a T26 finish. NeSmith gained 5.3 strokes ball-striking at TPC Sawgrass, which was his best performance since the Wyndham Championship back in August.
In terms of course history, the Copperhead course has always treated NeSmith well, as he finished T3 in 2022 and T21 in 2021 across his only two starts. As a matter of fact, only Davis Riley and Burns in this field have averaged more Total Strokes gained per round at the Copperhead Course than NeSmith.
Last week’s showing was quite encouraging, and I think NeSmith makes a ton of sense at this dirt-cheap $6,500 price tag here.
