40 countries you can travel VISA-FREE with UK visa [2023 edition]

Travel Countries VISA-FREE with UK visa

One of the frequent questions I get is which countries can I visit with a UK visa. The short answer is the UK. The long answer is you can travel to 40 countries and territories VISA-FREE with UK visa.

I encourage you all to get a US visa or at least a Canada visa first. Both these visas are long-term visas. These visas offer VISA-FREE travel to quite a few countries. But if you happen to have a UK visa or applying for one, then it is still better than not having any visas at all. There are about 40 countries and territories you can visit with a UK visa.

UK tourist visas are mostly short-term (C-Type) visas valid for 6 months. The UK does issue long-term visas for 5/10 years but it would cost an arm and a leg.

The UK visa application is not the most difficult, but it can be stressful due to its lengthy processing times and lack of customer service.

Culinary Delights of Turkey

Turkish cuisine is a delight for food lovers, offering a rich tapestry of flavors that reflect the country’s diverse cultural influences. Here are some culinary highlights you should definitely try during your visit to Turkey:

Turkish Tea and Coffee

Start your day with a traditional Turkish tea or strong Turkish coffee. Turkish tea is served in delicate tulip-shaped glasses and is a symbol of hospitality. Turkish coffee is known for its strong flavor and is often enjoyed with a side of Turkish delight.

Kebabs and Meat Dishes

Turkish kebabs are famous worldwide, and trying the authentic versions in Turkey is a must. From succulent lamb skewers (Shish Kebab) to flavorful meatballs (Kofte), each region offers its own unique take on these grilled delicacies. Don’t forget to try the popular street food, “Doner Kebab,” which consists of thinly sliced meat wrapped in a warm flatbread.

Meze: Turkish Appetizers

Meze is a selection of small dishes served before the main course, similar to Spanish tapas. It includes a variety of cold and hot appetizers, such as hummus, stuffed grape leaves (Dolma), and grilled eggplant salad (Baba Ganoush). Sampling different meze dishes allows you to savor the diverse flavors of Turkish cuisine.

Baklava and Turkish Delight

Indulge your sweet tooth with traditional Turkish desserts such as Baklava and Turkish Delight. Baklava is a rich and sweet pastry made of layers of filo pastry filled with nuts and soaked in sweet syrup. Turkish Delight, or Lokum, is a gel-like confectionary with a wide variety of flavors and textures. Visiting a local sweet shop is a treat for your taste buds.

Raki: Turkey’s National Spirit

No culinary journey through Turkey is complete without trying Raki, the national spirit. Known as “Lion’s Milk,” Raki is an anise-flavored alcoholic drink. It is traditionally enjoyed over a leisurely meal, accompanied by water and meze dishes. Drinking Raki is not only a way to appreciate Turkish culture, but also an opportunity to connect with locals over a shared experience.

Must-Visit Natural Wonders

In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, Turkey is blessed with breathtaking natural wonders that will leave you in awe. Here are some of the must-visit natural wonders:

Pamukkale’s Thermal Pools

Cappadocia’s Fairy Chimneys

Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys, with their whimsical shapes and formations, create a surreal landscape that seems straight out of a fairytale. These cone-shaped rock formations were carved by wind and water erosion over millions of years. Exploring these natural wonders and witnessing the sunrise or sunset from a hot air balloon is truly magical.

Oludeniz Lagoon

Oludeniz, located on the southwestern coast of Turkey, is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The crystal-clear waters of the Oludeniz Lagoon, surrounded by pine-covered mountains, make it a perfect spot for swimming, sunbathing, or simply relaxing on the beach. The vibrant blue hues of the lagoon are truly mesmerizing.

Mount Ararat’s Peak

Can I go to Turkey? Travel restrictions from the UK explained

By Abigail Malbon

Bodrum

Here’s what you need to know about the UK's travel rules for when you return from the country, plus Turkey’s own entry requirements for people looking to visit.

Is Turkey on the red list?

Turkey is one of eight countries that was removed from the red list on Monday 4 October 2021.

However, from Friday 18 March 2022, there are no Covid travel rules in the UK, which means that those returning to the country do not need to test, quarantine or fill in a passenger locator form , regardless of their vaccination status. The government will also no longer manage any quarantine hotels from the end of March.

What are the entry requirements for Turkey?

As of 1 June 2022, all Covid entry requirements to Turkey have been dropped. This means that you can now enter Turkey regardless of your vaccination status and without needing to show proof of a negative Covid test.

Previously, all travellers aged six and over needed to complete an online form a maximum of 72 hours before travelling.

Fully vaccinated travellers could enter without needing to test or quarantine, but had to show proof of their vaccination status, while unvaccinated travellers had to show proof of a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before entry, rapid antigen test taken no more than 48 hours before entry, or proof of a recent recovery from Covid-19 within the last six months.

Coronavirus entry requirements could still change at short notice, so travellers are advised to check the specifics with their airline before travelling. For the latest advice, please check the UK government's advice on Turkey's entry requirements .

Turkey Visa for UK Citizens

Turkey entry requirements from the uk.

Türkiye has been a popular travel destination for British travelers for decades and continues to have high numbers of tourists every year. The appeal of beautiful beaches, vibrant culture and a rich history often led to long queues at immigration, which were significantly reduced following the introduction of the Turkey e-Visa for UK citizens.

Getting prepared to visit Türkiye from the UK no longer requires the need to obtain a visa on arrival at the border, or the need to apply for a visa online for certain periods of short stay.

However, there are other entry requirements that British citizens must meet in order to gain entry to Turkey at an immigration checkpoint.

Do UK Citizens Need a Visa to Turkey?

No, since March 2nd, 2020, citizens of The United Kingdom are not required to apply for an electronic visa to enter Türkiye . Nationals of the United Kingdom who plan to travel to Türkiye now do not need a visa in order to visit the country for short-term stays for tourism or business purposes, or to transit to an onward destination.

However, the maximum period that a British national can stay in Türkiye without a visa is 90 days within every 180-day period. For longer stays, a Turkey visa for UK citizens is required and must be applied for from the nearest Turkish embassy or consulate in advance of the intended travel dates.

Additionally, British citizens who wish to work or study in Türkiye will need an approved visa or residence permit regardless of the length of time they need to spend in the country. This must also be obtained from a Turkish embassy or consulate in the UK.

Documents Needed for UK Citizens Traveling to Turkey from the UK

UK citizens currently need the following documents to travel to Türkiye:

  • Valid British passport
  • Valid visa for Turkey (if staying more than 90 days).

There are a number of passport requirements for Turkish visas from the UK that must be followed:

Documents Needed for UK Citizens Traveling to Turkey from the UK

  • British travelers have to hold a valid passport with more than 150 days remaining before its expiry on their expected date of arrival in the country, otherwise, they may be refused entry at the border.
  • It is also necessary for the passport to contain free blank pages to receive entry stamps from an immigration officer on arrival.

British citizens should also check the requirements for traveling back to the UK from Türkiye, as these are constantly changing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Arriving in Türkiye from The United Kingdom

Travelers arriving in Türkiye from the United Kingdom will need to present the required documents listed above to immigration officials on duty at the border, regardless of whether they are entering the country through a land, sea or air border crossing.

The same process is necessary for UK visitors arriving from other destinations, such as the EU Schengen Area.

Dual citizens who are entering the country with a Turkey visa for UK citizens should be aware that they must present the same passport that they used to complete their visa application form.

Please be aware: the Turkish border officials on duty during your arrival have the final say on whether you may or may not enter the country . You could be denied entry into Türkiye if the border guard:

  • Has cause to suspect that you falsified information during your visa application
  • Finds discrepancies (such as traveling with a different passport to the one registered for your Turkish visa)
  • Has suspicions about your reasons for entering Türkiye

Nevertheless, this situation very rarely happens. In most cases, the immigration officer will approve your entry to Türkiye , issue a stamp in your passport, and allow you to cross the border.

Turkish Embassies in UK

Travelers who do need to apply for a Turkish visa from the UK are required to make an appointment at the nearest embassy or consulate of Türkiye. There are several Turkish diplomatic missions in the UK where they can submit an application:

Turkish Embassy in London

Address: 43 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PA, United Kingdom

Turkish Consulate in London

Address: Rutland Lodge, Rutland Gardens, Knightsbridge, London, SW7 1BW, United Kingdom

Turkish Consulate in Edinburgh

Address:  39 Drumsheugh Gardens, Edinburgh EH3 7SW, United Kingdom

  • Visas and immigration
  • What you need to do

Biometric residence permits (BRPs)

Getting your brp if you applied from outside the uk.

If you applied for your immigration status (for example, your visa) from outside the UK, you’ll need to collect your BRP once you’re in the UK.

You must usually do this before the vignette sticker in your travel document expires or within 10 days of arriving in the UK, whichever is later.

There’s a different way to get your BRP if you applied from inside the UK .

Check your decision letter. It will tell you to collect your BRP from either:

  • a named Post Office branch
  • your sponsor, if you chose this option when you applied

You must be over 18 to collect a BRP.

What you’ll need

Bring your passport or travel document with your vignette sticker in when you collect your BRP.

You’ll get your vignette sticker when your visa application is approved.

Collecting a child’s BRP

You must be nominated to collect a child’s BRP, even if you’re the child’s parent.

The Home Office will tell you within 5 working days if you’re approved to collect the child’s BRP.

You do not need to be nominated if you’re also collecting your own BRP and you are named on your child’s vignette sticker.

Collecting your BRP from a different Post Office branch

You can choose to pick up your BRP from a different Post Office branch. You’ll need to arrange this at the Post Office branch you want to use and pay a fee. The Home Office cannot change the Post Office branch for you.

Check that the Post Office branch you want to use offers a ‘BRP collection service’.

Leaving and re-entering the UK before getting a BRP

If you need to leave and re-enter the UK before getting a BRP, apply for a ‘replacement BRP visa’ . You can also apply on behalf of a child.

A replacement BRP visa will let you re-enter the UK once only. It costs £154.

Nominate someone else to collect your BRP

You can nominate someone else to collect your BRP if you have a serious illness or disability that prevents you from collecting it. You cannot nominate someone else to collect your BRP for any other reason.

The Home Office may email you to ask for proof that you cannot collect your BRP in person - for example, a letter from your doctor. Your nominated person will not be allowed to collect your BRP if you cannot show any proof when asked.

The person you’ve nominated to collect your BRP must provide your passport as evidence that you’ve entered the UK.

The person you nominate must have one of the following:

  • an EU national identity card

You can get someone to make the nomination for you, for example a legal representative, charity, employer, college or university.

You’ll be told within 5 working days if the person you nominate is approved to collect your BRP. There are other ways to prove your immigration status before they collect it.

If you change your mind, you can still collect your BRP yourself or you can nominate a different person. You do not need to cancel the original nomination.

Nominate someone

Report a problem with collecting your BRP

Tell the Home Office if you cannot collect your BRP for any reason, for example:

  • you went to collect it from the Post Office and it was not there
  • you’ve lost your passport or travel document, or cannot prove your identity
  • you do not know which Post Office to go to because you’ve lost your decision letter

The Home Office will email you to tell you what to do next. You will usually get a response within 5 working days. It’ll take longer if you do not give an email address.

There are other ways to prove your immigration status before they collect it.

If there’s a problem with your BRP

Report any problems with your BRP within 10 days of collecting it.

When can I travel to Turkey? UK restrictions explained as holidays green lit without Covid test or vaccine

Tourism minister mehmet ersoy said the country is 'looking forward to welcoming british tourists with open arms'.

turkey

Turkey plans to welcome UK tourists this summer, without requiring proof of a Covid vaccine or negative test.

Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy said the country is “looking forward to welcoming British tourists with open arms”.

The plan is in contract to other nations who have signalled intent to reopen their borders to UK holidaymakers.

Countries including Spain and Greece have said they expect summer holidays to be allowed, but that people but provide proof of vaccination, coronavirus antibodies or a negative PCR test to be allowed entry.

When can I go on holiday to Turkey?

Under England’s lockdown roadmap , international travel will not be allowed until at least 17 May.

Turkey has not provided a date for when it will start welcoming back tourists, however Mr Ersoy has mentioned “early summer”.

However, after 15 April it will re-evaluate whether visitors must continue to produce evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of their departure.

Turkey is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Brits. British nationals made more than 2.5 million visits to the country in 2019, according to government figures.

How will entry work?

Mr Ersoy has said no proof of vaccination or a negative test will be required for UK holidaymakers.

“We have world-class border processes in place for ensuring travel will be low-risk throughout Turkey,” he said.

“We are working with the British authorities to ensure these necessary processes are world class and as up to date as possible.

“We will not require vaccination passports from international travellers when entering the country.”

On PCR tests, he said: “I expect there will be no such requirement from British visitors as the UK Government is rapidly and impressively rolling out the vaccination programme for the whole nation, and a significant portion of the population will be vaccinated by early summer.”

Mr Ersoy said employees at hotels and other tourist facilities in Turkey will be prioritised for Covid-19 jabs before the summer season.

What are Turkey’s current entry requirements?

Direct passenger flights between the UK and Turkey are currently suspended.

To enter Turkey you must display evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure.

All arrivals, except Turkish citizens or residence permit holders, must complete an  online form  within 72 hours of travel.

Arrivals are subject to a medical evaluation for symptoms of coronavirus, including temperature checks.

Passengers who have been in the UK within the last 10 days must quarantine for 14 days on arrival. This can be at a residential address. Passengers in quarantine can take a PCR test on day 10. If negative, the quarantine can end at that point.

Can I travel to Europe with my UK Biometric Residence Permit?

visit turkey with uk brp

You cannot use your UK Biometric Residence Permit (“BRP”) to gain entry to Europe. But make sure to bring it with you for re-entry to the UK!

Should i bring my brp.

Your biometric residence permit card is not a travel document but a proof of immigration status in the UK. It can only be used when re-entering the UK at the border. This is why you must always bring your BRP with you when planning to travel overseas.

What documents do I need?

If you want to travel to Europe, you will need to make sure that you have a valid travel document, such as an original current passport. If you are from a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA), you may be required to apply for a Schengen visa before you travel.

Current Requirements for Traveling to Europe with a UK Student Visa (BRP)

Future changes in travel requirements, tips for traveling to europe with a uk student visa (brp), uk student visa (brp).

Travel to Europe with BRP

The UK student visa (BRP) is typically granted to individuals who have been accepted into a recognized educational institution in the UK and meet the specific requirements set by the UK Home Office. It allows students to live, study, and work in the UK for the duration of their studies.

A lot of people wonder about travelling to EU with BRP, or travelling with BRP in general. We are going to answer these questions.

Eligibility Criteria and application process

To be eligible for a UK student visa (BRP), individuals must receive an offer of acceptance from a recognized UK educational institution and meet the relevant requirements, including academic qualifications and English language proficiency . The application process involves submitting an online application, paying the required fees, and providing supporting documents, such as a valid passport and evidence of financial capability.

While a UK student visa (BRP) allows individuals to study and reside in the UK, it does not automatically grant permission to travel to other European countries. Travel regulations vary across European countries, and individuals holding a UK student visa should check the specific requirements of their destination country before making any travel arrangements.

Traveling within Europe with a UK Student Visa (BRP)

Travel conditions for individuals with a UK Student Visa (BRP) to Europe have changed following Brexit. While the United Kingdom (UK) was previously part of the European Union (EU), it is now considered a third-country for travel purposes. As a result, different regulations apply to UK residents when traveling to European countries.

Freedom of Movement within the European Union (EU)

Freedom of movement, which previously allowed EU citizens to travel freely within the EU, no longer applies to UK residents. This means that individuals with a UK Student Visa (BRP) do not have automatic permission to travel to European countries without meeting specific entry requirements.

The Schengen Area and Its Implications

The Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries that have abolished internal borders, allowing for passport-free travel between member states. While the UK was never part of the Schengen Area, the new regulations have implications for UK residents. Individuals with a UK Student Visa (BRP) will need to adhere to the entry requirements of each Schengen member state when planning to travel within this area.

Validity of the BRP for Travel

Travel to Europe with BRP

Passport Requirements and Validity

When traveling to Europe with a UK Student Visa (BRP), it is essential to have a valid passport. The passport must meet the validity requirements set by both the UK and the European country you intend to visit. It is generally recommended to have a passport with a minimum of six months’ validity beyond the date of entry.

Duration of Stay in European Countries

The duration of stay in European countries with a UK Student Visa (BRP) is subject to the specific regulations of each country. While some European countries may allow visa-exempt entry for a certain period, others may require a separate visa or permit for extended stays. It is crucial to research and understand the entry requirements and duration of stay limitations for each country you plan to visit within Europe.

Brexit, the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU), has resulted in significant changes to travel regulations. While the full implications are still unfolding, it is important for UK students with a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) to stay informed about potential future changes in travel requirements.

Upcoming Changes in Travel Requirements for UK Students

As negotiations and agreements continue between the UK and the EU, there may be future changes in travel requirements for UK students. It is essential for students to monitor any updates or announcements from the relevant authorities regarding travel regulations and ensure compliance with any new requirements that may be introduced.

Potential Introduction of Visa Requirements for European Travel (ETIAS)

One potential change that could impact Travel to EU with BRP is the introduction of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). While ETIAS is not yet in effect, it is expected to be implemented in the future. This system would require individuals, including UK students, to obtain a travel authorization before visiting countries within the Schengen Area.

Researching Travel Regulations and Requirements

Before embarking on your trip to Europe with a UK Student Visa (BRP), it is crucial to research and familiarize yourself with the specific travel regulations and requirements of the countries you plan to visit. Check the entry requirements, visa policies, and duration of stay limitations for each destination to ensure compliance and avoid any potential issues.
