Definitely recommend

TourHQ didn't get the money to my…

TourHQ didn't get the money to my guide. So they had to refund me so I could pay my guide separately. But TourHQ kept $500. What for?

Hello, You had booked a tour for Ghana with our guide Kalu. Based on our conversation with the banking partners, there was a risk that the money would reach only after the start date of the tour. To ensure that the guide received at least some payment before the tour and not all of it after the tour ended, we requested you if we could refund a part of the payment, so that you could pass on that payment directly in person. Since this was a multi day tour which included arrangements such as hotels etc, we did not refund the full amount for you to carry as some payment was required for advance arrangements as well. In addition, as per the local laws, we are required to withhold certain payments for taxes and fees. He proved to be an excellent guide, and his knowledge of the region's birds was impeccable. He knew exactly where to go to find the typical target birds of birders in Ghana, and could identify everything from the slightest sound. Each day's itinerary was set out in advance and so it was clear exactly how each day would be spent, and we often took breaks in the afternoon to rest up before going out again later in the day. We had some car trouble a couple of times, but he would adapt the original agenda to maximise our birding time. His drivers were excellent, and always drove with our safety always in mind. In addition to his excellent guiding, he was very personable and I learned a lot from our conversations. Unquote I hope that this explains in better detail as to what had happened. We take your feedback that we need ways to transfer payments to Ghana more efficiently. However, I hope you appreciate that a lot of this depends on the state of the banking system, and is often beyond our control.

Very responsive

Very responsive - excellent guides I gave this company a 5 star review because: 1. Their customer service was very responsive. I knew I wanted to make a trip, but hadn't thought through details about how many days, what services to use etc. It was also my first time booking a trip with guides (2 female travelers, international trip), and had high anxiety around it. They were responsive to my msgs and helped me understand the process and how everything works - and supportive of the many changes I made to my trip. 2. We had guides in two different cities. Both were very knowledgeable, helpful and reliable. They each brought such a unique perspective, and it felt like having a local friend. I'd never used a tour guide before, but the experience with the guides from TourHQ has changed my perspective completely. The guides took us to a really local hole in the wall restaurants, away from the tourists traps, and had excellent recommendations 3. Ease of transactions - its a simple to use interface and the booking process was easy. Senior UN officer on Gaza hunger strike claims assault by guards at New York HQ

Bruno Donat, head of UN Mine Action Service in Geneva who is fasting over child victims of war, in ‘intense pain’ after incident

A senior UN official who went on hunger strike in support of child victims of the Israel-Hamas conflict has said he was assaulted by UN security guards at the organisation’s New York headquarters.

Bruno Donat, head of the UN Mine Action Service in Geneva, alleged the guards pushed him back on to the pavement outside the headquarters on Monday so forcibly that he fell, striking the back of his head. Donat did not break any bones and has since been discharged from hospital, but says he is still in intense pain.

The UN denied Donat was assaulted and claims he fell when he was prevented from forcibly trying to enter the building, during which the UN said he assaulted two security officers. Donat insists he did not use any force but was simply arguing his case with the guards.

Donat, a 54-year-old US-Mauritian citizen normally based at the UN Geneva headquarters, said he had started a hunger strike on 1 March “in an entirely personal capacity” to protest about the killing of children, first by Hamas on 7 October, but since then in far greater numbers by Israeli forces in Gaza . He has worked in Gaza and said he was also protesting about the killing of more than 160 UN workers there since 7 October.

According to Donat’s account, he arrived at the UN visitor entrance on Monday and was told by a UN security official he could not protest within the headquarters and would need a New York police permit to protest outside. He says he went back to his hotel to leave his bags, his guitar and other protest paraphernalia, and then returned to the New York headquarters on Monday evening for a coffee meeting he had arranged with a UN colleague.

He said he was then denied entrance by UN security guards, one of whom told him he would be arrested by New York police if he did not leave. Donat provided video of the argument to the Guardian in which he insisted he had a right to entry as a senior member of staff and challenged the guards to carry out their threat to call the police.

Shortly after 8pm, Donat said the guards abruptly started pushing him backwards.

“At that moment, very forcefully, I think about two or three [guards] grabbed me quickly and forced me out,” he said. “I was in shock when I was pushed … from the vertical position backwards and I fell on the back of my head.”

A UN spokesperson, Farhan Haq, said that he was not aware of any ban on Donat entering the headquarters, only on protesting on the premises. But Haq said Donat was now banned from entry because, according to the guards, “he assaulted two security officers during the course of the event”.

Donat denies assault, saying he only leaned towards the guards pushing him in an effort to stay upright.

He is currently a senior humanitarian affairs officer who, while retaining the title of head of the UN Mine Action Service in Geneva, is serving on secondment to the UN Justice and Corrections Service. Donat, however, said he was considering his future at the UN, and whether to resign.

“I’m a believer in the work of the United Nations . I have given my life to the United Nations, and I am a supporter of the current secretary general. I think he’s taken brave stances,” he said, but he added: “The UN I see now I don’t recognize from the UN that I signed up for.”

Donat said: “I am talking to friends in Gaza and Israel and the most heartbreaking message I get is my own UN colleagues telling me about the deafening silence of other UN colleagues.”

Clemson sues ACC, 1st step in college football realignment move

The next step in the college football conference realignment process appears to have been taken as Clemson has filed a lawsuit against the ACC in Pickens Co. (S.C.), according to court records.

Clemson stated that it has not informed the ACC that it intends to leave the conference and remains a member, but its suit suggests that the school is looking for a way to change that.

In the suit, Clemson alleges that its "ability to meaningfully explore its options regarding conference membership" is inhibited by the ACC claiming that it owns the school's media rights.

Clemson filed the suit against the ACC because, as the school said, "The ACC's actions interfere with Clemson's free exercise of its rights and are fatally detrimental to Clemson's efforts to ensure that its athletic programs can continue to compete at the highest level, which is critically important to Clemson even beyond athletics."

Clemson is hoping the court rules that the conference does not own the school's media rights after it leaves the league; that the school is not required to pay an exit fee to leave, and; that the school owns no fiduciary duties to the ACC.

This past offseason, Clemson was revealed to be one of the so-called "Magnificent Seven" schools that were scouting a possible exit from the ACC's grant of rights agreement that expires in 2036.

To leave the conference before that date, a school would have to fork over an exit fee of nine figures. 

But it appears Clemson wants to make a move before that date in order to take full advantage of the new market that has emerged since the landmark expansion phases that took place last offseason .

Clemson isn't alone, either.

This is the second legal action brought against the ACC in recent months, as Florida State also brought suit against the conference in a move the school hopes will ease the path towards leaving the league and joining another in the future.

Clemson has been "very connected" with Florida State on the issue of the ACC's future and making a potential exit from the conference, a source told SI last summer.

But the schools have taken "very different PR approaches" to the situation. 

Clemson has not made any public statement on the matter until now, whereas Florida State decision makers have stated openly in board meetings and other statements that they were not pleased with the financial situation that exists in the ACC today.

Now, Clemson has made its first public statement, and what figures the first step in a long legal process.
