Another preseason Clasico, Barcelona-Real Madrid, coming to U.S. this summer

In what has become a burgeoning, money-making tradition , FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will bring their renowned rivalry to the United States for a second consecutive summer.

They'll play El Clasico, as its known, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 29, as part of the second-year Soccer Champions Tour.

It will be a preseason match, of course. The tour — which will also feature Manchester United , Arsenal , Juventus and AC Milan — is not a tournament like some of its predecessors were. It is essentially eight one-off games, smack-dab in the middle of the Women's World Cup, billed by organizers as a "summer series" that will span California, Las Vegas, Texas and Florida.

But the headliner is the game of all games, perhaps the world's most celebrated sporting rivalry, at the grandiose stadium of all grandiose stadiums, Jerry World, the 105,000-seat home of the Dallas Cowboys that aspires to host the 2026 World Cup final .

El Clasico comes to the U.S.

When Barca and Madrid first brought their blood feud to the U.S. in 2017, the concept was ridiculed by some purists; but the exhibition game, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, was a roaring success. The Miami Clasico drew 1.7 million viewers on ESPN platforms and a sellout crowd willing to pay several hundreds of dollars apiece for tickets. Players competed, genuinely. A 3-2 Barcelona win thrilled everybody involved.

It felt, at the time, like a watershed moment for the International Champions Cup , the preseason event that grew to 18 teams and 27 games spread across nine countries late last decade. In early 2020, organizers were in negotiations to inaugurate Southern California’s SoFi Stadium with a second stateside Clasico that summer.

But then came COVID-19. The ICC canceled its 2020 programming, fizzled during the pandemic, and devolved into a legal dispute between its parent company, Relevent Sports, and its mastermind, the legendary soccer promoter Charlie Stillitano. The men's ICC has not been played since.

Relevent still runs a women’s ICC and other ventures. This summer, it is working with England 's Premier League and Spain 's La Liga on two separate North American tours. But in 2022, the Soccer Champions Tour swooped in for Barca and Madrid, and organized a Clasico at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. (Barca won, 1-0, in front of a boisterous, sellout crowd.)

In its second year, the Soccer Champions Tour has expanded to feature two clubs each from Spain, England and Italy . Sixth Street, a global investment firm that has partnered with both Barca and Real Madrid , is the company behind it. AEG is producing it. Legends is a key partner. And Stillitano, according to a source with knowledge of the tour's evolution, has been involved as a consultant.

Preseason tour schedules

The Soccer Champions Tour announced its full 2023 slate Friday:

Saturday, July 22: Barcelona vs. Juventus — Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California

Sunday, July 23: Real Madrid vs. AC Milan — Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California

Wednesday, July 26: Arsenal vs. Barcelona — SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California

Wednesday, July 26: Real Madrid vs. Manchester United — NRG Stadium, Houston

Thursday, July 27: Juventus vs. AC Milan — Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California

Saturday, July 29: Barcelona vs. Real Madrid — AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas

Tuesday, August 1: AC Milan vs Barcelona — Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

Wednesday, August 2: Juventus vs. Real Madrid — Camping World Stadium, Orlando

Kickoff times haven’t yet been determined. In their Friday news release, organizers said that “the matches remain subject to approval by the relevant football authorities,” but that is likely a formality.

Separately, Arsenal and Manchester United have organized a preseason friendly at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 22. United is also set to play Wrexham on July 25 in San Diego — presumably with a reserve team, because one day later, it is now scheduled to play Real Madrid in Houston. It then plays Borussia Dortmund on July 30 in Vegas .

Arsenal will also play the MLS All-Stars on July 19 in Washington, D.C.

The Premier League's own "summer series" will feature Chelsea , Newcastle, Aston Villa , Fulham , Brighton and Brentford, with games in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey and Maryland.

Biggest soccer events in 2024: Mark your calendars

by Martina Alcheva October 27, 2023

the champions tour soccer

Soccer stands as one of the most beloved and thrilling sports worldwide. Every year, diverse tournaments occur on each continent, featuring the finest clubs and national teams competing against each other.

The best soccer tournaments have a unique ability to ignite the passion of fans like no other. Also, the atmosphere in stadiums and the quality on display are exceptional. The host cities provide a fascinating backdrop for exploration.

That is because the world of soccer boasts a rich assortment of accolades. Alongside the multitude of domestic leagues, there exist remarkable cup competitions, each with its distinctive claim to fame. These domestic cup events compete for superiority on a global scale.

While there are still several months remaining in 2023, there is no sign of a slowdown in the world of sports. With a wealth of exciting events to anticipate in 2024, the upcoming year promises to be a bountiful one for international soccer.

Should you be the organized kind, see our helpful guide below for a summary of the main events that you still have to look forward to in 2024.

January 2024

2023 afc asian cup (january 12 – february 10).

The 2023 AFC Asian Cup is a prestigious international soccer competition featuring senior men’s national teams from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This tournament had its inaugural edition in 1956. Now, the Asian Cup happens every four years. The most recent champions are Qatar, who defeated Japan 3-1 in the final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

China was the original host of the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup. That would have been China’s second time hosting the tournament after Japan won on Chinese soil in 2004 . However, China withdrew from hosting the tournament in May 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October 2022, Qatar was designated as the new host for the tournament, just ahead of its hosting of the 2022 World Cup . This will mark Qatar’s third time hosting the Asian Cup, following their previous hosting in 1988 and 2011. The tournament has been rescheduled to January 2024, allowing it to welcome a busy calendar of soccer events. The move comes because of high summer temperatures in the region and Qatar’s participation in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

2023 Africa Cup of Nations (January 13 – February 11)

The Africa Cup of Nations serves as the primary international association soccer competition in Africa. This tournament is organized by the Confederation of African Football or CAF.

The inaugural Africa Cup of Nations was in 1957. AFCON maintained a biennial schedule since 1968. In 2013, the competition shifted to odd-numbered years to avoid overlapping with the FIFA World Cup.

The Ivory Coast is hosting the upcoming tournament in January. This is the country’s second time hosting the event. The last was way back in 1984.

Originally, this tournament was planned to be the third consecutive edition, starting from 2019, to be held during the summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This change aimed to minimize scheduling conflicts with European club teams and competitions.

However, on July 3, 2022, CAF announced the postponement of the tournament, citing concerns related to adverse summer weather conditions in Ivory Coast. Despite the shift in timing, the tournament retained its original name for sponsorship purposes.

This decision followed a similar move for the 2021 edition held in Cameroon. Senegal is the defending champions, having won the previous edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

2024 UEFA Europa League Final – May 22

The 2024 UEFA Europa League Final will mark the culmination of the 2023-2024 UEFA Europa League, which is the 53rd edition of Europe’s secondary club soccer competition.

This final is scheduled to be held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland. The Aviva Stadium was originally designated to host four matches during UEFA Euro 2020, but those plans were changed as the government could not guarantee fan attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, in July 2021, it was awarded the Final of the UEFA Europa League for 2024. This event will mark the second time that the Aviva Stadium hosts the Final of the UEFA Europa League.

2024 FA Cup Final – May 25

The FA Cup Final, often colloquially referred to as the ‘Cup Final’ in England, serves as the concluding match of the Football Association Challenge Cup. This tournament has been an integral part of English soccer since its inception in the 1871-1872 season.

The 2023–24 FA Cup will mark the 143rd edition of this tournament, making it the oldest soccer competition in the world. The defending champions are Premier League side Manchester City, who secured their seventh title by defeating rivals Manchester United in the previous season’s final.

The FA Cup Final was at the original Wembley Stadium from 1923 until the year 2000. Since 2007, the new Wembley Stadium has been the designated host of the final.

2024 UEFA Europa Conference League Final – May 29

The 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League final is set to be the ultimate match of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League, which represents the third season of Europe’s tertiary club soccer competition organized by UEFA. This final is scheduled to take place at the Agia Sophia Stadium in Athens, Greece, on May 29, 2024.

The triumphant side in this final will secure qualification for the group stage of the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League. However, if they have already qualified for the Champions League or Europa League through their league performance, this qualification will not be applicable.

Notably, this final marks the eighth single-leg UEFA club final Greece is hosting. The country has previously hosted three European Cup/Champions League finals, three Cup Winners’ Cup finals, and the 2023 UEFA Super Cup.

June provides Major soccer events around the world in 2024

2024 uefa champions league final – 1 june.

The 2024 UEFA Champions League Final is the culminating match of the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League. It will be the 69th edition of Europe’s premier club soccer competition.

This final will take place at Wembley Stadium in London, the capital city of England. Wembley Stadium was the original host of the 2023 UEFA Champions League Final. The intent was to commemorate the centenary opening of the original Wembley in 1923. However, due to the postponement and subsequent relocation of the 2020 Final, this event shifted to 2024.

The 2024 final marks the third occasion that the rebuilt Wembley Stadium hosts the Final of the UEFA Champions League. It did so in both 2011 and 2013. The original stadium had also hosted the final of the competition on five occasions until 1992.

UEFA Euro 2024 (1 June – 14th July)

U EFA Euro 2024 is an international men’s soccer competition featuring member nations of UEFA. This tournament has been a significant event since its inception in 1960.

Traditionally, the Euros occur every four years. However, UEFA Euro 2024 will be an exception. Euro 2024 is just three years after the previous edition. Euro 2020 started one year late because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 17th edition of this tournament is in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. It will be the third time that European Championship matches happen on German soil and the second time in reunified Germany . The former West Germany hosted the tournament in 1988. Then, in 2021, four matches from Euro 2020 transpired in Munich.

I taly holds the title of defending champions. The Italians emerged victorious in the 2020 tournament after defeating England in a penalty shootout.

2024 Copa América (20 June – 14th July)

The 2024 Copa América is a men’s soccer competition featuring international teams from CONMEBOL, the South American soccer confederation. First established in 1916, the Copa América is the world’s oldest competition for international teams in this particular sport.

Following the 2019 edition, the Copa América reorganized to take place every four years. In doing so, it aligned with the UEFA European Championship. This year’s event is in the United States from June 20 to July 14, 2024.

Copa America shifted every tournament since 1984 across the ten participating confederations, beginning with Argentina in alphabetical order. It was in the USA for the centenary edition of the tournament in 2016. That was the first time a non-CONMEBOL nation was the host of a Copa America.

Based on the rotation, Ecuador was the proposed host of Copa América 2024. The South American nation turned down the chance. Instead, the United States is hosting the competition. It helps strengthen preparations for the World Cup in 2026. Also, there is a new strategic alliance between CONCACAF and CONMEBOL. It is the USA’s second time hosting the competition. Combined with Euro 2024, the Copa America sets up a busy summer of soccer events for the world’s fans.

December 2024

26th arabian gulf cup.

The eight-member nations of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation oversee the Arabian Gulf Cup. This is a biennial soccer competition. The tournament has happened every three to four years as a result of organizational or political issues.

Iraq is currently the champion, having won their fourth championship at the 25th edition, which they hosted in 2023. The 26th edition of the tournament takes place in Kuwait in December 2024. This is also the conclusion of a busy calendar of soccer events in 2024.

Champions Tour Soccer: Comes to the USA

Preseason preparations for europe’s top clubs.

Champions Tour Soccer: Comes to the USA

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus Head Stateside

July 22: juventus vs cd guadalajara (11 p.m. est, las vegas), july 23: real madrid vs barcelona (11 p.m. est, las vegas), july 26: barcelona vs juventus (8:30 p.m. est, dallas), july 26: real madrid vs club america (10:30 p.m. est, san francisco), july 30: juventus vs real madrid (10 p.m. est, pasadena).

With the 2022-23 season quickly approaching, Europe’s top clubs are getting their final tune-up matches in. It just so happens that some of the best and brightest in world soccer are in the USA for Champions Tour Soccer. Teams like Manchester City , Bayern Munich , Arsenal, and Chelsea F.C. are all in the states. Huge clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus are participants in the inaugural Soccer Champions Tour.

Two of Mexico’s biggest clubs, Club America and Chivas de Guadalajara, are also participating. Now, let’s run through the game scheduled for the tournament, which is taking place in various cities in the West.

Juventus and Chivas de Guadalajara will kick off the action on Friday night. Somewhat surprisingly, it’s not the first time these two clubs have met.

Juventus have lost two of their key center backs this Summer, Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt. Juve signed Gleison Bremer from crosstown rivals Torino but it may be a little too soon for him to make his debut.

Typically one of the best soccer teams from Italy, Juventus finished fourth in Serie A last season. Heading into the 2022-23 season, Serie A odds price them as -450 favorites to qualify for the Champions League. They also sit at +185 odds to win Serie A as the most likely team to win other than Inter Milan .

Chivas de Guadalajara is in the middle of their Liga MX season and entered the week in 15th place of 18 teams. There won’t be much rest for them in between Wednesday night’s match vs Leon and Friday’s contest vs. Juventus.

Although it’s listed as preseason friendly, it’s never friendly when Real Madrid and Barcelona meet. El Clásico is officially coming to the Soccer Champions Tour. This is a rare chance for American fans to see the two clubs in action, especially with their new players.

Despite their financial woes, Barcelona has managed to bring in Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. Lewandowski, one of the greatest strikers of all time, could be the missing piece in FCB’s attack. Raphinha, the former Leeds United winger recently said, “For me, we’re better than Real Madrid.” Expect both players to play a part here.

Real Madrid won the La Liga and Champions League double in 2021-22 and has strengthened further. Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni and defender Antonio Rudiger are both high-level players ready to make an impact.

It should come as no surprise that Real Madrid and Barcelona are far and away the two most likely clubs to win La Liga this season. Real Madrid is the favorite, at +110 odds , while Barça isn’t far behind, at +135.

The offseason soccer schedule heats up as Barcelona takes on Juventus in Dallas, Texas. Usually, these two clubs meet in the Champions League , which certainly speaks to their quality.

With a few friendlies under their belts before this, we may see something close to the starting lineups here. Xavi, in his first offseason as Barcelona manager, will certainly want to get started off on the right foot.

Juventus, who recently brought back Paul Pogba and signed Angel Di Maria, will be looking to improve this season. With a lot of moving parts, this is an excellent opportunity for the players to build some chemistry on the field.

Spain’s most successful team takes on Mexico’s most successful team in a much-anticipated matchup. This will be just the second-ever meeting. The last time these teams met was in the 2016 Club World Cup semifinals, a matchup Real won 2-0.

Club America is among the favorites to win the Apertura of the Liga MX. They’ll also have already played Manchester City by the time they face off vs Real Madrid. America is no pushover, as they made the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League final.

This should be a good tune-up for Real Madrid, as they play a team who’s already in midseason shape.

The Rose Bowl has hosted its fair share of important soccer games over the years. In 1994, Brazil defeated Italy, in penalties to win the World Cup. Now, it plays host to Juventus and Real Madrid in the Soccer Champions Tour.

Juventus and Real last met in 2018, when Cristiano Ronaldo was still playing for Los Blancos. So, it’ll be interesting to see how these two teams stack up now. No one would be surprised if this were a Champions League semifinal, or even ‘final’, matchup later on this season., thus making the champions tour soccer, even better.

As the European soccer leagues start to wind down their current seasons, the clubs are making plans for the annual trek to the United States for preseason camp and games.

This summer, Southern California soccer fans will get at least three chances to watch their favorite clubs from Europe as the Soccer Champions Tour schedule was released Friday.

The tour consists of eight games from July 22-Aug. 2, with stops in Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Francisco.

The first area stop is July 23 as Real Madrid faces AC Milan at the Rose Bowl.

Three days later, SoFi Stadium is the location as Arsenal faces Barcelona, and one day later, on July 27, AC Milan and Juventus will meet at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.

The schedule also includes an El Clasico between rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid, set for AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The 2023 Soccer Champions Tour is being produced in partnership with AEG.

“AEG is excited about the partnership with Soccer Champions Tour and Legends to bring the most successful soccer clubs in the world to fans across the U.S.,” Tom Braun, AEG’s Senior Vice President, Soccer & Business Operations and Business Development, said in a statement. “Every matchup in this series is of the highest caliber and we’re thrilled that American soccer fans will have the opportunity to see these epic games featuring legendary teams live and in person.”

New NBA-LFC collaboration: does LeBron James own Liverpool?

The premier league side and the nba icon worked together on a new range of leisurewear and sneakers..

William Gittins

Liverpool have announced the new edition of the leisurewear collaboration between the Premier League club and NBA legend LeBron James . The ‘ LFC x LeBron: Chapter 2 ′ was revealed on Wednesday, mixing the leisurewear aesthetics of basketball and soccer.

The second collaboration between LeBron and Liverpool features a black, blue and gold colour palette and is already available to purchase online. The collection features soccer jerseys and basketball shorts among other leisurewear items.

The club’s press release describes it as a “transatlantic collaboration between the most iconic basketball player in the world and a global powerhouse in football”.

⚽ ✖️ 🏀 Introducing Liverpool FC x LeBron: Chapter 2. — Liverpool FC (@LFC) March 6, 2024

The campaign is fronted by LeBron and Virgil van Dijk , who took over as Liverpool captain last summer.

“It’s great to have worked together alongside LeBron to launch this collaboration,” Van Dijk said. “I’m excited for everyone to see what we’ve created.”

Does LeBron James own Liverpool?

This is the second sportswear collaboration between LeBron James and Liverpool and the 39-year-old has a long history with the club. He is a keen soccer fan and supports Liverpool, first visiting Anfield in 2011 .

His extraordinary NBA earnings - allied with lucrative partnerships with the likes of Beats Electronics and Nike - left him able to buy a stake in the Premier League giants. While playing for the Miami Heat LeBron struck a deal with Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group to acquire a minority stake in the club.

He acquired around 2% of the club in 2011, worth an estimated $6.5 million. By 2018 his share was thought to be worth $32 million.

In 2021 Fenway Sports Group introduced new investors and made LeBron James a part of Liverpool’s ownership group . It’s not clear exactly how much of a stake the NBA legend now holds in Liverpool but his ties to the club appear to be growing. This latest edition of his sportswear collaboration is further proof of that.

Rory McIlroy expands on 'dream scenario' for global tour like soccer's Champions League

R ory McIlroy no longer has a seat at the table of the PGA Tour after relinquishing his position as a member of its board of directors, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have strong opinions about the future direction of the circuit.

Following his third round on Saturday of the Genesis Invitational in Pacific Palisades, California, McIlroy expanded on his “dream scenario,” which he outlined last month in an interview with Golf Diges t , for how a more global circuit could work.

Before the Tour officially finalized its deal with SSG to pump potentially $3 billion into the PGA Tour’s new for-profit entity, PGA Tour Enterprises, McIlroy said , “there is an untapped commercial opportunity out there. Investors always want to make a return on their money. Revenues at the PGA Tour right now are about $2.3 billion. So how do we get that number up to four or six? To me, it is by looking outward. They need to think internationally and spread their wings a bit. I’ve been banging that drum for a while.”

“I think it's all pie in the sky stuff,” he said after shooting 69 in the third round at Riviera Country Club. “I think there has to be a component of the Southern Hemisphere, Australia, South Africa. There obviously has to be a component of the Far East, whether that be Korea, Japan, China. Obviously the Middle East as well. We've been going to the Middle East for a long time, but obviously Dubai, Saudi, and then sort of working our way from east to west and back into the United States for the sort of spring, summertime.”

McIlroy envisions a tour for the best players that would play in the neighborhood of 24 events around the globe, the four majors plus 20 limited-field tournaments in the fashion of this week’s signature event in L.A.

“I would think it would be one tour. I think you would just create a tour for the top 80 players in the world,” he said. “Everything sort of feeds up into that one. You know, the way I look at it, it would be like Champions League in European football. It sort of sits above the rest of the leagues and then all those leagues sort of feed up into that and the best of the best play against each other in the Champions League is the way I would think about it.”

He added: “I don't think it will look too dissimilar to what it is right now, but maybe the front end of the year and the back end of the year might look a little different. I still think there's -- I don't think we need to blow everything up, but there definitely needs to be some tweaks, I think.”

McIlroy’s idea could have legs as the Tour plots a new future as a for-profit with private equity investors expecting a return on their investment, not to mention the still-to-be-determined involvement of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the newly-created business.

“I think you just have to convince the players to buy into it because that's what's going to be best for them, especially if you're going to be an owner of that tour,” he said. “Everyone's got their own interests in this game and that's what happens when you've got quite a fractured landscape at this point. So trying to align everyone's interests and trying to convince everyone that this is the right thing to do for the game of golf as a whole, and if you can convince everyone of that, then it would be pretty simple. But right now it's just trying to get everyone singing off the same hymn sheet.”

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions by model that called 10 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the arnold palmer invitational 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks.

rory-mcilroy-pga-golf-usatsi.jpg

Rory McIlroy has four top-10 finishes in his last five visits to Bay Hill Club and Lounge, and he will be hoping for another strong showing when the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational begins on Thursday at 7:45 a.m. ET. McIlroy is 17-2 in the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds, trailing only Scottie Scheffler (6-1) atop the PGA odds board. There are plenty of other exciting names in the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational field, as this is another signature event for the PGA Tour. Young star Ludvig Aberg (20-1) lacks experience at this course, but he did finish inside the top 25 at this tournament last year.

Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland (12-1) is trying to bounce back from disappointing results at Pebble Beach and Riviera. Which golfers should you include in your 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational bets? Before locking in your 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,700 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model included Hideki Matsuyama in its best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024 field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024: McIlroy, a 24-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, struggles this week and doesn't even crack the top five. McIlroy won this event in 2018 after firing a 64 in the final round and he secured a T-2 finish at Bay Hill in 2023. However, he has struggled out of the gate in 2024, failing to crack the top-15 in his first three starts on the PGA Tour this season.

McIlroy remains one of the best drivers on tour, but he's been inconsistent with every other aspect of his game this season. The 34-year-old enters this week's event ranked 173rd in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.868), 127th in putting average (1.791) and 147th in putts per round (30.00). He also ranks 151st in scoring average (70.43), which doesn't bode well for his chances to finish on top of the leaderboard at Bay Hill this week.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, a 22-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa opened his 2024 season with a T5 at The Sentry, shooting 25-under-par to become the only golfer to finish in the top 10 each year from 2020 to 2024.

He has added a pair of top-20 finishes since then, posting a T14 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (-10) and a T19 at The Genesis Invitational (-6) in his latest tournament. Morikawa missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last year, but he recorded a T9 in 2020. He ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approaching the green and tenth in putting average, which are two reasons why the model likes him to make a run this weekend.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks

The model is also targeting four other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational, and which longshots will stun the golfing world?
