Air Tours & Boat Tours in Los Angeles

Taking a tour of LA by air or sea is one of the best ways for the entire family to enjoy the city. For a truly unparalleled view of the entire county of Los Angeles, nothing is more exciting than an airplane or helicopter tour. While soaring high above the City of Angels, tourists and locals alike will love the rare opportunity to see with their own eyes the picturesque sights which decorate thousands of postcards. During the day, anyone can enjoy countless birds-eye views of LA, including views of the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Monica Mountain Range, the Rosebowl and Getty Center. For a truly magical experience, a sunset tour allows you to witness the glittering lights of the city sparkle on slowly as the daylight begins to fade. One of the best ways to truly appreciate the sunny state of California is to climb aboard a beautiful yacht and watch the stunning coastline sail by on a boat tour. Though this may not be the most common way to see the sights of any city, it is certainly one of the best; something about taking a cruise tour makes everyone feel like royalty. Day or night, the Mediterranean climate of southern California provides the ideal setting for dining and dancing on the Pacific Ocean. Champagne brunch cruises leaving from Marina del Rey or Long Beach are perfect for anyone who wants to bask in the sun while enjoying a sweeping view of sandy beaches and world-famous coastal towns. As dusk approaches, sunset dinner cruises become gold mines for postcard pictures when the famous coastal towns are splashed in fiery hues of amber and rose.

Welcome To Hollywood — 30 Minutes $199.99

30 minute tours.

Take off from scenic Vany Nuys airport for 30 minutes of seeing the sights like never before!

Downtown Tour

Our Downtown tour takes you through the sights of Los Angeles without the hassle of crowded freeways or angry drivers. You'll take off from Van Nuys airport and look down on the homes of your favorite Hollywood elite sprinkled throughout the Hollywood Hills. Perhaps you have seen the world famous Hollywood sign sign from below, but nothing looks quite so beautiful as it does when soaring from above. Buzzing along you'll also see the iconic sights of Los Angeles such as Dodgers Stadium, Staples Center, Universal Studios, more!

Coastline Tour

Our Coastline tour promises a touch of glitz and beauty to set the mood. or create lifetime memories. The highlight is certainly the beauty of California's Santa Monica coastline! Along the way, you'll buzz over the Getty Center and be awed by the top-down view of the breathtaking Getty Villa. Along the coastline, you'll swoop down close enough to practically count the flowers on bikinis on your way to the Santa Monica pier where you will head back to picturesque views of Marina Del Rey, Century City, and of course, Beverly Hills!

LA Experience — 60 Minutes $299.99

La experience tour.

Can't decide which of the 30 minute tours to choose from? Why not  choose both and more? Booking the 60 minute tour gives you the Downtown and Coastline tours combined, plus you'll cruise over Wilshire Blvd, the Miracle Mile, Old Beverly Hills, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and see the mansions and horse properties of Hidden Hills (amazing valleys) continuing through Malibu canyons where you'll see a hidden waterfall, and then over to the Pacific Coast Highway and California's  beautiful shoreline where you'll watch the waves break as you soar above the cliffs and sandy beaches.

Night Skies of LA — 60 Minutes $349.99

Night skies tour.

Think you have seen it all? You haven't seen anything until you have soared over LA at night. The sea of light peeking through the pitch black darkness created  by the surrounding hills and lakes is a mesmerizing sight that will overload your senses.

The Night Skies Tour is not as much about the iconic landmarks as it is a journey through a sea of lights. You'll see one of the most beautiful sunsets you are ever likely to experience in your lifetime. The sea of lights is more than a simple bed of white lights. Your view will be filled with reds, blues, neon and more. The freeways come alive as cars snake through the canyons and hills while chaotically stretching out in the straightaways. Iconic landmarks such as the Getty Villa, Staples Center, and Griffith Observatory will claim their prominent place among the lesser lights. Words alone do not do it justice. The tour and views are an experience you must live, not simply read about, to fully understand.

Frequently asked questions

  • The trick to having a great travel experience is to pack ahead. Start with the essentials: passport, travel docs, cash and important medications. Next, bring on board items that’ll help pass the time, like your laptop or a good book. It’s also a wise idea to pack your chargers, a quality neck pillow and a pair of earphones. Finally, don’t forget to chuck in toiletry items like a toothbrush, facial wipes and a fresh change of clothes.
  • Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your trusty pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and strong acids, are also not allowed.
  • The long, narrow aisles of your airplane are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer yourself up with comfortable clothes and remember to bring a sweater as it tends to get cool inside the cabin during longer flights. Flat, enclosed shoes are also a sensible choice.
  • Unfortunately, a risk of flying long distances is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To prevent this from happening, take every opportunity to walk around and give your legs a stretch. Compression tights and socks are also a great idea to help minimize this risk.
  • Keep your ID and travel documents easily accessible. They’re the first items you’ll be asked to show at airport security.
  • The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the scanner’s alarm. This includes things like headphones or earphones, as well as heavy coats or jackets. They’ll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
  • All electronic gadgets, including your phone and laptop, must also be separately scanned.
  • Can’t travel without your favorite perfume or cologne? Not a problem. As long as it’s in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it’s stored in a clear zip-lock bag, you’re permitted to bring it with you in your carry-on.
  • Slip-on shoes are a great footwear choice as you’re less likely to have to remove them when going through security. Hiking boots and other heavy shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
  • Airlines will not allow any sharp items or pocket knives in your hand luggage. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked baggage.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A United Airlines jetliner headed to Mexico City from San Francisco made an emergency landing in Los Angeles on Friday after the crew reported a hydraulics issue, in the fourth emergency involving a United Airlines flight this week.

The plane landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport around 4:30 p.m. and none of the 110 people on board were injured, United Airlines said in a statement.

Fire engines stood by at the airport but weren’t needed, said Nicholas Prange, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

The airline said passengers can travel to Mexico on another plane expected to depart later Friday.

United said the Airbus A320 has three hydraulic systems for redundancy purposes.

“Preliminary information shows there was only an issue with one system on this aircraft,” it said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement it will investigate the emergency landing Friday.

The emergency landing at LAX on Friday comes hours after passengers had to be evacuated from another United Airlines flight after the plane rolled off a runway and got stuck in the grass in Houston, Texas. No injuries were reported among the 160 passengers and six crew members, United Airlines said in a statement.

Video posted on social media taken after the landing in Houston showed the plane tilted to one side with one of its wings near the ground.

On Thursday, another United Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Los Angeles. It was a jetliner bound for Japan that lost a tire while taking off from San Francisco. No injuries were reported.

Video footage showed the plane losing one of the six tires on its left-side main landing gear assembly only seconds after takeoff. The tire landed in an employee parking lot at San Francisco International Airport, where it smashed into a car and shattered the back window before breaking through a fence and coming to stop in a neighboring lot.

Earlier in the week, a United flight from Houston to Fort Myers, Texas, was forced to turn around Monday after one of the plane’s engines caught fire. Several of the 167 passengers aboard the Boeing 737 took videos showing a line of flames shooting out of the engine. No injuries were reported.

United’s emergency landing in LA marks airline’s fourth safety incident this week

United flight 821 from San Francisco to Mexico City landed at Los Angeles international airport after crew reported hydraulics issue

United Airlines’ bad week for safety issues continued on Friday afternoon when a plane was forced to make an emergency diversion due to an issue with its hydraulic system.

United flight 821 from San Francisco to Mexico City made an emergency landing at Los Angeles international airport after the crew reported a hydraulics issue, the Federal Aviation Authority said .

In a statement , United said the Airbus A320, which was carrying 105 passengers and five crew, landed safely and passengers were scheduled to take a new plane to Mexico City.

The airline said that the plane had three hydraulic systems for redundancy purposes, and that according to preliminary information there was an issue with one of the systems, ABC 7 reported . The FAA said it will investigate.

Friday’s emergency diversion marks United’s fourth emergency this week, and the first not to involve a Boeing plane.

Earlier that day, United flight 2477, a Boeing 737 Max 8 carrying 160 passengers and six crew, was attempting to land at Houston’s George Bush intercontinental airport when it rolled off the taxiway and into the grass. United added that the passengers, who were all safe, deplaned via movable stairs.

In another incident, United flight 35, a Boeing 777-200 carrying 235 passengers and 14 crew, was taking off from San Francisco to Osaka, Japan, on Thursday when a tire fell off . It landed in the airport’s staff car park, breaking a car window.

The flight returned to the airport, with a United spokesperson saying that the plane was designed to land safely with missing or damaged tires.

On Monday, dramatic footage showed bright flames bursting out of the engine of United flight 1118, a Boeing 737-900 en route from Houston to Fort Myers, Florida. The flight, which was carrying 167 passengers, made an emergency landing back in Houston. Speaking to ABC, passenger David Gruninger said “panic set in with a lot of people” on board.

Also this week, the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on an incident last month in which United flight 1539, a Boeing 737-8, experienced “stuck rudder pedals” during the landing rollout at Newark Liberty international airport in New Jersey.

On Saturday, the justice department said it had opened a criminal investigation into a blowout on another Boeing plane, the 737 Max, on an Alaska Airlines flight in January, said the Wall Street Journal, citing documents and people familiar with the matter.

Earlier in the week, the chair of the NTSB said Boeing would not identify who had worked on the door plug panel in question. Alaska Airlines told Reuters that it was cooperating with the criminal investigation and said the company “do not believe we are a target of the investigation”.

How L.A. architects designed a 300-square-foot ADU that pulls in $1750 a month

The ADU above the garage has all the elements you would expect from a pair of architects: Arresting geometry on a narrow lot, a spare kitchenette graced with inventive storage, soaring ceilings and strategically placed aluminum windows to ensure privacy. It’s all well thought out, and it’s in the architects Jefferson Schierbeek and Su Addison’s backyard.

The couple purchased their 1962 Mar Vista home in 1999 for $360,000 when their two children, now 26 and 29, were young. As married partners of the Los Angeles-based firm Addison Schierbeek Architects , they had always wanted to add on to their home as a financial investment and a way to give the house a “bit more breathing room,” Addison says. But like many working parents, the couple put their redesign on the back burner. In the meantime, they parented their children, helped start a charter school and worked on residential projects for their clients.

Architects Jefferson Schierbeek and Su Addison look up while sitting at a backyard table with their dogs Walter and George.

After 20 years, though, they believed they could finally pull it off.

“We had been working on the design for years,” Addison says. “When the zoning codes pertaining to our property began to transition, redefining allowable building area, we realized it was time to focus on the project before any code changes required us to redesign.”

Adds her husband: “As architects, our house was similar to the story of the cobbler’s children who have no shoes.”

The studio is an example of how to reimagine a neglected carport as smart, multigenerational housing. The ADU is used for grandparents to come on extended stays, since the couple has a young child. It is also a full-time work-from-home office, guest house, and extension of the family living space by integrating the pool and yard into the larger programmatic space of the home and site. (Jay L. Goodbye carport, hello ADU: A tiny parking spot is reborn as a stunning live-work studio

A 380-square-foot ADU with plenty of storage offers flexibility for a Los Angeles couple and their extended family, including working from home and housing.

Feb. 20, 2024

In 2019, they decided to take advantage of California’s revised residential codes and add an ADU above their detached garage for $200,000. After years spent considering the design, they had a plan: They would move into the ADU when it was complete and then oversee a second-story addition on the main house from a few feet away. As a bonus, they wouldn’t have to move off property during the house construction and pay exorbitant rent in L.A. In the spring of 2020, when the ADU was finished, they moved in with their two boxers, George and Walter, for 14 months. By 2022, they moved back into the house and were ready to rent the ADU.

“I could open the door and look at the workers carrying the roof off our house,” Schierbeek says.

Measuring approximately 300 square feet, the ADU has enough space for a bed, sofa, kitchenette and desk for working from home. The architects placed the windows strategically to maintain privacy between the two homes and maximized the ceiling height to help open up the space.

“With our kids gone, it allowed us to purge,” Addison says of living in a tiny floor plan. “We learned that we didn’t need much.”

A curtain alongside a tiny patio was installed to provide privacy between the two homes.

The bathroom is streamlined, similar to a wetroom.

The bathroom is streamlined, similar to a wetroom.

A compact home office wedged between a door and a galley kitchen in an ADU.

“It does require rethinking priorities,” adds Schierbeek, “but it does work. For instance, we didn’t build a closet; we used Ikea hanging racks instead. It was pretty austere, and it was quite easy.”

The interior space is bright thanks to multiple scattered windows and efficient use of space. There is only one sink in the unit, which means the kitchen faucet is used for everything from cooking to brushing teeth. According to Schierbeek, the loss of the sink gives the bathroom the streamlined feel of a wet room you might find in India or Europe.

South-facing windows oriented to the sun allow the studio to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and drapes outside the front door can be closed for further privacy if anyone wants to sit in the patio chair on the tiny stoop.

The second story’s exterior is clad in environmentally friendly fiber-cement boards and mirrors the contemporary shape of the street-facing house. With the two homes so closely connected, the architects felt it was important to design the ADU as a playful reflection of its neighbor.

On the alley, they added a separate entrance, which came in handy when renting the studio to Adam Mefford, a 43-year-old entrepreneur, in 2022. “He doesn’t have to walk through the property to get to his rental,” notes Addison. The couple currently rent the unit for a reduced fee of $1,750 a month, given that Mefford helps them with their two dogs, who move effortlessly between the two units. For context, the average rent for a 500-square-foot studio in Mar Vista is $2,449 a month, according to Apartments.com.

Two adorable dogs.

“Our tenant had to love dogs,” Addison laughs.

About that time, the couple joked that, like many adult children in California , their son returned home, and was disappointed to learn that Mefford had rented the ADU.

Nestled in between the two homes, a long picnic table and barbecue offer open-air dining as though it were a park.

Some days, the couple and Mefford enjoy eating together. Mefford uses the barbecue frequently because his rental only has a cooktop and mini-refrigerator. The couple emphasizes that he is welcome to host friends in their backyard anytime.

“We share it,” Schierbeek says. “If we plan on having people over, we let him know. He has dinner gatherings at the table on certain days. We have curtains and can close them if necessary. We are flexible.”

Ready to build or rent out an ADU? Here’s how to win over nervous neighbors

Neighbors have reason to be nervous about ADUs. Construction, new tenants and street parking can be inconvenient. Here’s how to smooth things over before you start construction.

March 5, 2024

The sense of community is not restricted to backyard barbecues. On New Year’s Day this year, the couple, who met at the University of Michigan, enjoyed watching the Wolverines beat the Crimson Tide in overtime on television along with their tenant.

“It adds to the living experience,” Schierbeek says of Mefford. “I don’t like the idea of putting up walls and fences. Socially, it feels better, and financially, it’s nice to have money come in as an investment.”

Before moving to Mar Vista, Mefford lived in a loft downtown. Now, he says he appreciates all that his new living arrangements have to offer, including visits from George and Walter.

Walter, left, and George, right, wondering why they can’t come inside the ADU.

A portrait of Adam Mefford standing in a galley kitchen.

Adam Mefford, stands inside his austere kitchen and just next to the bathroom.

“The joys of living in the ADU include the great design, the light and the air movement, and the location within proximity of many stalwart SoCal attractions, such as biking to the Venice Canals, the Strand and the epic selection of connoisseur coffee outlets on this side of town,” Mefford said in an email.

The couple say they feel fortunate to have built the ADU before the COVID pandemic stalled construction and supply chain issues left builders without windows, doors and appliances. If the couple were to build a similar ADU today, they estimate it would cost significantly more. “We would have a hard time doing a second story for under $325,000 on the Westside now,” Schierbeek says.

It may have taken them 20 years to remodel their home, but the results were worth the wait: “We are living the experiment,” Schierbeek says of the second unit. “ When you think about it, an ADU creates a community on your property. I’m glad we decided to rent it. That’s what ADUs are for — housing.”
