Team Safari 2022

Posted by Monte Long on Mar 17th 2023

Normally, I write about shooting drills. Drills are one of the ways to practice and improve your skills as a shooter. Sometimes, I write about a standard or qualification course of fire. Standards and quals are a way of testing your skill set so that you can determine if you’ve improved or what you should work on improving. Another way to test your skill set is to go shoot a match. Today, I want to talk about a specific match.

The Accufire Tech Team Safari was held October 14-16, 2022 at the JP Blue Steel Ranch just outside of Logan, NM. It’s an annual event that is put together and run by Zak Smith and Jimmy Holdsworth of Competition Dynamics and their team of range officers. As the name implies, it is a team match consisting of two people – one team member uses a precision rifle and a pistol and the second team member carries a carbine and a pistol. It’s a great match to test your skills as a shooter AND as a team member.

The match consists of three field courses, North, West and South, and between two and four assault courses, depending on the year. Teams shoot one field and one or two assault courses per day. The field courses are arranged on the North, West and South sides of the property and involve quite a bit of movement – anywhere from two to three miles total. Assault courses are more akin to a 3 gun or USPSA style stage, with a team component mixed in.

Field courses start and end at the Front Range of the property. Teams are allowed to use nearly any piece of gear that they want to shoot, provided the team is willing to carry it on a two plus mile trek around the New Mexico desert. When it’s a team’s turn to head out, they follow a trail marked with various colors of survey tape. The team follows the trail along the field course and stops at 8 shooting areas along the way. At each shooting area, the team in front of yours is waiting to serve as your range officers/score keepers when your team shoots.

Shooting positions can be either a 1X6 or a 2X3 – one shooting position with 6 available targets OR two shooting positions with three available targets that are engaged from both positions. From the shooting position (or the initial shooting position on a 2X3), there will be a set of clearly marked lateral limits that the range officers will point out. The lateral limits can, depending on the stage, be extremely narrow or dauntingly wide. Some targets are readily visible while others can be difficult to find. On the go signal, your team has six minutes to find, range and engage the targets – three for the carbine shooter and six for the precision rifle shooter. The number of rounds that a carbine shooter can fire at his or her targets is only limited by how much ammo they want to carry and the time available to them. The teammate with the precision rifle gets one round per target – they are, after all, shooting the precision rifle.

Targets are provided by AA Targets and can be small diamonds, large diamonds or rectangles. Regardless of the size and shape, they are some variation of this:

Of course, bright white targets would be easy to spot in the New Mexico desert. Zak and Jimmy give them a good solid coat of grey or black paint. It makes spotting the targets a bit more entertaining – and definitely more difficult.

Sometimes, you can see and engage everything from prone. Other times, well, there is a reason that teams that have shot the match before typically carry at least one tripod for the team. You’re probably going to want one for some of the shooting positions.

There’s a lot going on with the field courses. You need to be able to find targets that may or may not be readily visible quickly and you have to be able to effectively communicate their locations to your teammate – and to the RO’s. You need to be able to accurately range the targets and, on occasion, be able to recognize when you’re ranging something other than the target. And you’ve got to be able to make a good wind call – the river bottom and the network of canyons and draws on the property create some difficult wind conditions.

Assault courses tend to be scattered around the property and have varied quite a bit over the years. This year, we had two assault courses to contend with. Assault 1 was on the front range and was a long gun only course of fire. The team started with one teammate with an unloaded long gun at the low ready. The second teammate was sitting down, facing up range looking at a range officer. There was a cardboard target with a series of black and white head shots down range at about 50 yards. Each photo was numbered, and there was a corresponding steel target down range at 300 yards. On the go signal, the teammate that was facing up range was shown a picture. He or she had to describe the person in the photo to their teammate. Once the teammate identified the target on the cardboard at 50 yards, he called out the number and then had one round to engage the steel target at 300 yards. Once the first teammate had an opportunity to engage six targets, the teammates switched positions and repeated the drill. Teams had a maximum of four minutes to complete the course of fire.

Clear, concise communication with your teammate was vital to this assault course. By using black and white photos, Zak and Jimmy increased the necessity for clear communication and detailed descriptions AND increased the difficulty of the drill.

Assault 2 was in a large caleche pit on the North field course. The team started with both handguns loaded and holstered and both long guns slung empty. There were six pieces of pistol steel down range directly in front of the team to be engaged with pistols and four long gun targets 90 degrees to the right at 250 yards, with multiple firing lines marked. There was also a Rescue Randy dummy. The team started at around 50 yards. On the buzzer, each teammate was to engage the steel targets directly in front of them with a handgun. If all hits were achieved with no misses, the team moved to final pistol position for the rifle portion of the course.

If either teammate missed a pistol target at any time, the team had to holster their pistols and move to the next firing line. While carrying Randy’s heavy ass. Carry. Not drag. Did I mention that Randy is a bit on the heavy side? At the next yard line, the process was repeated – each team member attempted to hit the pistol targets with only six rounds. Any miss required a re-holster and movement to the next line, along with Randy. From the final position, about 20 yards from the targets, the team was allowed to shoot handguns until they had achieved twelve hits – six per team member – and then unloaded and holstered their pistols.

At that point, each team member had four targets to engage with the long guns. Due to terrain and foliage, the targets had to be shot off hand or using your teammate for support. This was a timed stage with a four minute par time.

While the communication between team mates on Assault 2 wasn’t as much as on the rest of the course, the team did need to work together to get Randy from position to position and to get their rifle hits.

The match, as always, was excellent! Despite some rain on Sunday morning, the match ran well, and all of the shooters had fun. I’m already working on what I’ve decided I need to change before next year.

If you like to shoot competitively, especially with a rifle or carbine, and you want to see how well you can work with a teammate, you should definitely make sure to sign up for this one!

A big thank you to Jimmy, Zak, Stan and the Competition Dynamics Crew for a great match!

Thank you to all of the sponsors!

Safari Team Asks for Feedback Amid Accusations That 'Safari Is the Worst, It's the New IE'

Apple's Safari and WebKit team has asked for feedback on Twitter amid criticisms of the browser's bugs and missing support.

safari icon blue banner

Also counterproductive, pointing to bugs from several years ago, complaining about them over & over & over. Let’s talk about current bugs. Currently missing or partial support for new features. Let us know what’s most important to you. What do you want us to tackle first? — Jen Simmons (@jensimmons) February 8, 2022

Simmons also urged users who notice bugs that are "several years old and not fixed" to contact her with a link from bugs.webkit.org or a Feedback number from Apple's Feedback Assistant so it can be looked into more closely. The call for feedback has largely been received positively.

Safari has been met with complaints from some users in recent years over the browser's bugs, user experience, and website compatibility. The problems reached fever pitch last year when Apple unveiled a substantial redesign for Safari at WWDC, which was met with widespread criticism that accused the changes of being "counterintuitive." After months of tweaking the ambitious redesign in response to feedback, Apple eventually gave up on the changes just before the public release of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey, reverting to the previous Safari design by default.

Apple has also been criticized for demanding apps that browse the web to use the WebKit framework and WebKit Javascript on iOS and iPadOS, a policy that effectively bans non-WebKit based browsers. This has caught the attention of regulatory agencies, including the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which said that "due to the WebKit restriction, Apple makes decisions on whether to support features not only for its own browser, but for all browsers on iOS." A previous tweet from Simmons appears to suggest the importance of maintaining the WebKit restriction.

Gosh. Catching up with tech Twitter this morning and there seems to be an angry pocket of men who really want Safari to just go away. Do we really want to live in a 95% Chromium browser world? That would be a horrible future for the web. We need more voices, not fewer. — Jen Simmons (@jensimmons) February 7, 2022

Following consultation with developers, the CMA is considering forcing Apple to reverse the ban on non-WebKit based browsers to allow for more competition. It is unclear if Apple's latest push for feedback is related to the growing regulatory pressures around Safari.

Safari browser support in Microsoft Teams

Teams preview won't open in safari.

Safari 11.0 uses Intelligent Tracking Prevention to block third-party tracking cookies. Because of the way Intelligent Tracking Prevention categorizes cookies, login.microsoftonline.com gets lumped into this category (even though login.microsoftonline.com is not a tracking domain), and Microsoft Teams is prevented from opening.

If you want to use Teams in Safari while Safari browser support is in preview , go to Preferences > Privacy   and uncheck the  Prevent cross-site tracking   setting. Then, close your browser and navigate back to teams.microsoft.com in Safari.

Changing this setting may impact your experience on other websites.

Once Safari is fully supported for Teams, you will no longer need this workaround.

When you're done using Teams in Safari, go to Preferences > Privacy   and check the  Prevent cross-site tracking   setting again.

Read more about Intelligent Tracking Prevention here .

Safari offers Toyota chance to bounce back, says Latvala

• The Yaris has fended off the other two manufacturers, M-Sport Ford and Hyundai, in three Safari editions.

• World champion Kalle Rovanpera — the 2022 Safari winner — headlines the Toyota Gazoo Racing team alongside regulars Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta.

Toyota Gazoo Racing team principal Jari-Matti Latvala believes the WRC Safari Rally Kenya later this month offers a perfect platform for the GR Yaris Rally1 squad to bounce back to winning ways.

Toyota, the manufacturers’ defending champions, are yet to register a win in the FIA World Rally Championship this season. They played second fiddle to Hyundai in the first two rounds — in France (Monte Carlo) and Sweden.

However, Latvala is determined to reverse the trend and prevent a possible Korean manufacturer’s hat-trick in Kenya on the March 28-31 Easter weekend.

“I am looking forward to Kenya,” Latvala said. “The timing is different, the date has come forward and will be run in the rainy season. This will be a big challenge. But I think reliability has been one of our strengths, which is good going to Kenya.”

Toyota has dominated the African fabled event which returned to the global series in 2021.

The Yaris has fended off the other two manufacturers, M-Sport Ford and Hyundai, in three Safari editions.

Despite that impressive track record on such a rough event, Latvala remains humble.

“We need to be patient. The first two events of the season didn’t go how we hoped. It’s a rally in which we want to bounce back.”

World champion Kalle Rovanpera — the 2022 Safari winner — headlines the Toyota Gazoo Racing team alongside regulars Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta.

Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi hopes to extend his fine form after a popular victory in Sweden last month. The Finn will pilot an i20 N Rally1 car alongside championship leader Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak.

Toyota Gazoo Racing won last year’s Safari through eight-time WRC titlist Sébastien Ogier, who will miss this year’s edition.

M-Sport Ford will field three Puma Rally1 marques. Adrien Fourmaux is fresh from his maiden podium in Sweden and will be joined by Grégoire Munster and Jourdan Serderidis in the British team’s line-up.

The battle in WRC2 will be as exciting as ever with Oliver Solberg, Gus Greensmith, Nicolas Ciamin and Kajetan Kajetanowicz in action.

Local drivers including Carl Tundo and Karan Patel should not be ruled out, nor should FIA Junior WRC regular Diego Domínguez — who makes his WRC2 debut in a Citroën C3.

9 Things to See in Moscow's Red Square

 Sir Francis Canker/Getty Images

In most cases, you'll be entering Red Square from the north, passing landmarks such as the Bolshoi Theatre and Duma parliament building as you make your way southward. Although you don't necessarily have to pass through the Voskresensky (or Resurrection in English) Gates in order to gain access to the square these days, they definitely provide a sense of arrival, to say nothing of the way their left arch frame's St. Basil's Cathedral if you look from just the right angle.

An interesting fact is that while a gate of some kind has stood here since the mid-16th century, the one you currently see wasn't built until 1994, having been destroyed in 1931 so that tanks could enter and exit Red Square during military parades.

St. Basil's Cathedral

TripSavvy / Christopher Larson

Few sights are as iconic not only of Moscow and Red Square but indeed of Russia than St. Basil's Cathedral, whose colorful, onion-shaped domes are a symbol of the country around the world. Officially known as the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, this church has stood since 1561, which is quite miraculous when you consider all the turbulent history that has transpired since then.

Among other things, religion was severely prohibited during the Soviet period , which led some to believe that this emblem of the Russian Orthodox church might not withstand the tenure of the USSR.

An interesting fact is that St. Basil's is the so-called "Kilometer Zero" of Russia; all of Moscow's main roads (which can take you anywhere in Russia) begin at the exits to Red Square. In this way, St. Basil's iconic status also has an extremely tangible element.

The Kremlin

TripSavvy / Christopher Larson

When you think of The Kremlin, it's unlikely that positive images enter your mind. The fact that simply saying the word "Kremlin" is too vague a descriptor (most Russian cities have their own Kremlin complexes; you should say "Moscow Kremlin") notwithstanding, this misunderstood place is incredibly beautiful, even if you don't like the policy that comes out of it.

Senate Square

In spite of its name, which refers to the role the building that rises above the square played during Imperial Russia, Senate Square is actually home to Russia's presidential administration, currently helmed by Vladimir Putin. In order to see where Russia's legislature operates from, walk just outside Red Square to the Duma parliament building.

Dormition Cathedral

Dating back to the year 1479, the gold-domed Dormition Cathedral pays homage to an Orthodox religious feast that commemorates the death of the Virgin Mary . As is the case with St. Basil's, it is curious that such a conspicuously religious structure was able to survive through the Soviet period.

Armoury Chamber

Though it takes its name from the fact that it housed Russia's royal arsenal when it was built in the 16th century, the most notable resident of the Kremlin's Armoury Chamber today is the Russian Diamond Fund.

Notable Kremlin Towers

Robert Schrader

The interior of the Moscow Kremlin is more beautiful and inviting than you'd expect, but the walls and towers that rise around it better live up to the intimidation with which the complex is associated.

Borovitskaya Tower

Named to commemorate the dense forest that once stood atop the mount where it's built, this tower is extremely picturesque. Built in the late 15th century, it's visible from most places in the square, and also as you walk along the Moskva River.

Nikolskaya Tower

Also built in the year 1491, this tower currently suffered destruction at the hands of Napoleon's army in the 19th century. What you see now is the result of an 1816 re-design and renovation, though artillery fire during the Russian Revolution also caused superficial damage to the tower, named to honor St. Nikolas of Mozhaysk , so it's difficult to know which elements of it are original.

Spasskaya Tower

Known in English as the "Savior's Tower," this iconic, star-topped tower is perhaps the best-known of all the Kremlin's towers. Built in 1491 like the other two towers on this list, it's certainly the most photographed. As a result of its proximity to St. Basil's, it often makes its way into tourists' pictures.

Mausoleum of Lenin

Just as it's strange to learn how many religious monuments survived through the Soviet period, it's a bit odd to think that Lenin's preserved body still sits in a mausoleum just beneath the walls of the Kremlin on Red Square, given the lack of consensus about the ultimate impact of his Revolution, even in Russia.

It's not guaranteed that you'll be able to see the body (which, believe it or not, seems to be improving with age ) when you go, and if you do you will likely have to wait in line, but even strolling past the outside of the Lenin Mausoleum, flanked by stone-faced guards that almost look like statues, illuminates the gravity of his body still being here.

GUM Shopping Center

You might cringe, at least initially, when you realize that one of the most iconic stops on a tour of Red Square is a department store—until you see said department store, that is. Built in 1893 and known during Soviet times as the State Department Store, GUM  ( Glávnyj Universáľnyj Magazín or Main Universal Store in English) hearkens back to the grandeur of the late 19th century, both seen from the outside (especially, when lit up at night) and the interior, which might have you feeling like you're further west in Europe.

A trip inside GUM is a particularly good idea during winter, when frigid temperatures outside will have you savoring the heat, the quality of souvenirs, confections and other goods sold inside notwithstanding. Also, make sure not to confuse GUM with CDM, which sits near the Bolshoi Theatre, even though both are stunning and iconic in their own right.

State Historical Museum

The Russian State Historical Museum is located near Voskresensky Gates, though you should wait until after you've seen the first few attractions of Red Square and the Kremlin to head back there and go inside. To be sure, as you pass by its facade (whose late-19th century grandeur somewhat obscures that fact that it's currently a museum accessible to the public) you might not even think to try and gain entry.

Once inside the museum, you can plan to spend at least a couple of hours, given that artifacts here date back to the very beginning of the Russian state in the ninth century. As is the case with GUM, this will be a particularly alluring prospect if you visit in winter, when Moscow is arguably at its most beautiful, but certainly at its least tolerable.

Minin-Pozharsky Monument

It's somewhat easy to disregard this monument, which pays homage to the two Russian princes who ended the so-called "Time of Troubles" in the mid-16th century, during which Polish-Lithuanian forces occupied Russia, among other awful things including a famine. That's because the statue currently sits just at the base of St. Basil's Cathedral, which makes it very difficult to photograph or even see without being overwhelmed by that much more famous edifice.

Though the statue originally sat at the very center of Red Square, it came to be an obstacle to the movement of tanks during the Soviet period, much like the Voskresensky Gates. As a result, authorities moved it during that time, and it's stayed where you currently find it ever since.

Kazan Cathedral

Taken by itself, the smokey-pink Kazan Cathedral is an architectural marvel; originally built in the 17th century, the church you find here today, located just north of the GUM department store, dates back only to 1993.

Unfortunately, since it sits not only in the shadow of GUM, but also in the shadow St. Basil's and the Towers of the Kremlin, it's easy to miss entirely if you aren't looking. As a result, you might wait until you've seen just about everything else in Red Square before coming here to take photos, and to appreciate the understated beauty of this oft-overlooked cathedral.

Moskva River

As you head south from St. Basil's Cathedral to exit Red Square, make sure to walk onto Bolshoy Moskvoretskiy Bridge, which crosses the Moskva River. If you look due north, you can get an excellent shot of the church framed, on the left, by the towers of the Kremlin. Directing your gaze a bit to the west allows you to see the skyscrapers of Moscow City as they rise above the Kremlin's walls.

Walking westward along the riverbank is also a worthwhile excursion, for the views it provides of Red Square and the Kremlin, as well as the fact that doing so takes you to other iconic Moscow attractions, including Gorky Park and the Pushkin Museum. The views you enjoy from the river and the bridge are particularly stunning at night, though you should make sure you bring a tripod if you want to get a clear picture, given how strong winds over and near the river can be.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. Jeep drops second Easter Jeep Safari 'trail marker' teaser

It's hard to tell, but it appears we're looking at a gladiator, wrangler, and wagoneer..

team safari 2022

Easter will be here soon, which means weeks of Jeep-related teasers and press releases ahead of the brand’s annual Easter Jeep Safari . Earlier this week, the automaker released renders that appear to show a Gladiator-like open-back truck , while another portrays a Wrangler with tube doors and unique bodywork. The latest trio of images dropped last night, giving us three more off-road concepts to ponder ahead of the event.

Jeep ’s new teaser includes images of the Wagoneer SUV and two other SUVs, which could be the Wrangler or Gladiator . One depicts the “Rubicon” graphics and a hood with blue accents that looks to be from a 4xe model . This could be a hint that we’ll see the upcoming Gladiator 4xe at the Easter event. The second non-Wagoneer image looks to be of a Wrangler with a load of upgrades from Jeep Performance Parts. We can see a winch and tie-downs, along with larger off-road tires.

The least cryptic of the three new images clearly depict a Wagoneer, but we don’t know if it’s a Grand or standard model. Given that the event is held in Moab, the off-road mecca, it’s more likely to be the smaller of the two SUVs. Jeep could take the opportunity to show off a 4xe version of the upscale Wagoneer, which would track with the expectation that we’ll see an electrified variant next year.

This year’s teasers are hard to decipher, but they’re par for the course. Jeep’s 2022 teasers were just as mysterious, and we ended up seeing a load of Wrangler 4xe concepts, a Grand Cherokee 4xe , and a neat tube-doored Gladiator variant. The Safari takes place over several days with day trips, ride-along events, and more. Though Jeep takes the opportunity to haul out concepts, the event is managed by Red Rock 4-Wheelers and was founded by the Moab Chamber of Commerce.

2020 2020 TEAM SAFARI

Oct 16-18, 2020 at logan, nm.

The TEAM Safari

This is a team "hike-and-shoot" rifle match for long-range rifle, semi-auto "carbine," and pistols. It will test a 2-man team's ability to locate, range, and engage practical targetry spread in the terrain using both weapons systems. Some of the skills involved include target recognition, ranging, wind doping, ballistic data management, marksmanship under field conditions, non-standard shooting positions, rudimentary trail skills.

You can think of the Team Safari as a Team version of the Steel Safari

This match is much easier physically than the TBTC and is more on-par with the Steel Safari.

TEAM MEMBER 1 - LONG-RANGE RIFLE SHOOTER

TEAM MEMBER 2 - CARBINE SHOOTER

TEAM SAFARI 2020 RESULTS

Posted By: Zak Smith on October 19, 2020

Congrats to the Team Safari champions, Andy Reinhardt and Collin Fossen. Here are the full results SCORES 2020 PDF

This was the biggest Team Safari to date, thanks to everyone for helping us have a safe and successful match.

We’ll have the 2021 schedule done and posted by mid Dec. Our goal is to keep the same “weekends” year over year, if you need to make early plans now.

2020 TEAM SAFARI

Posted By: Zak Smith on October 5, 2020

At the present time, NM guidelines, dictums, orders, etc, permit outdoor activities provided that participants maintain “social distancing” of 6 feet, and we do not congregate in groups larger than 10 people. Thus, the Team Safari will proceed with just a few changes vs. normal.

These changes will not affect the “Spirit of the match” or the shooting challenges, it will mostly be administrative and lessening the amount of interaction between competitors and competitors/staff.

We will be having a MANDATORY ONLINE BRIEFING FOR NEW TEAM SAFARI SHOOTERS – that is, everyone who has NOT SHOT THE TEAM SAFARI BEFORE MUST ATTEND – this Friday Oct 9th at 6:00PM MTN time on GoToMeeting, OR– we have an additional one on Saturday Oct 10th at 6:00PM MTN if you can’t make the first one. The link will be sent out in a separate email.

We will be re-using the Steel Safari ONLINE verbal briefing because it is 98% the same as the Team Safari briefing. We will go over the differences in the online briefings for new shooters.

Match Format Adjustments: We are consolidating the four assault stages in to either 2 long ones, or 2 long ones and 1 standards.

Here are some of the most important things to know NOW:

1. DO NOT COME IF YOU ARE SICK. SYMPTOMS TO LOOK FOR INCLUDE: Cough, Fever, Body Aches, etc.

2. We will have a temperature-check station on-site on Thursday. People with Temperatures higher than specified by our consulting medical personnel will not be able to compete and will have to leave.

3. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you take your temperature and monitor your health closely leading up to your departure for SS. It would suck to drive the whole way only to show up with symptoms.

4. Everyone on-site will be required to maintain SOCIAL DISTANCING of 6 feet at all times. This is for safety and to prevent us from being shut down in case the guidelines in NM are not relaxed and L.E. stops by. The 6′ rule will be enforced at all times with the exception of people who have traveled together the whole trip, and those people are to not have close contact with others.

5. Check-in will be mostly “virtual” or electronic with minimal interaction on-site. We will provide the waivers for you to complete and deposit on-site.

6. We will not have a regular SHOOTERS MEETING– it will be VIRTUAL. Prior to the SS, Jimmy and I will put together the Match Briefing Packet and a video and/or audio recording of the normal briefing and send these out via email. It will be your responsibility to understand this material. Present questions BEFORE THE MATCH via PHONE or EMAIL. This way we can eliminate more on-site 1:1 interaction.

7. Please limit groupings to 10 people or less at all times to comply with NM orders.

REGISTRATION STATUS.

Registration is now kind of a mess, with everything on hold, checks not cashed immediately due to potential cancellation, etc. Please bear with us to get this straightened out. Here is the current status”

1. Those who currently have a CONFIRMED/PAID status are good to go.

2. Those who have sent funds but have not yet been marked PAID please check with me ASAP to make sure we have not received your funds.

3. At this point, please bring cash if you haven’t paid yet.

4. WE WILL NOT BE DOING ANY ON-SITE REGISTRATIONS. So register online if you want to come.

5. The last day we can receive and log-in payments before we head to the SS site is Friday Oct 9. Let’s get payments squared away ASAP, it’ll make it easier for everyone in the long term.

We are also looking for a couple more “Course Starters”–please contact Jimmy or I if you’re interested. You can’t be a “course starter” and a competitor, though you’ll have plenty of time to shoot for fun on-site as a staff member.

THERE WILL BE MORE INFORMATION COMING – STAY TUNED.

COVID19 IMPACT TO 2020 COMPETITION DYNAMICS SEASON

Posted By: Zak Smith on March 28, 2020

5/19/2020 UPDATE — ALL MATCHES ARE “ON” — WITH A FEW PROCEDURAL CHANGES.

— ORIGINAL POST —

Here is the impact of the COVID19 situation to the 2020 Competition Dynamics season (all four matches):

1. No matches are cancelled or rescheduled “YET.” We will not run a match if the COVID19 situation has not substantially resolved and the “stay at home” orders that are present in many states (including our home state) have been lifted.

2. We will make a final determination for each match NO LATER THAN one month before the match would occur.

3. If a match cannot take place at its normally-scheduled dates, we will attempt to reschedule later in the year, depending on the public health outlook and all other schedule considerations. IE, we will try to reschedule a match if we think it can work.

4. Processing of all registrations is suspended (effective 3-4 weeks ago). That means we will not approve/accept registrations, accept checks, deposit checks already sent, etc until some resolution is in place.

5. We will hold or destroy, at your request, all checks that have been sent/received and NOT YET DEPOSITED. Of those that we logged in but had not yet deposited, I have downgraded your online registration to “SLOT GRANTED”.

6. Of those who sent checks that were deposited and are marked as “CONFIRMED/PAID”, you have several options:

a) wait to see what happens; OR b) have us write you a check, now or if/when we have to cancel; OR c) in the case that a match is ultimately cancelled, we can roll your registration into any future CD event (eg, 2021 season)

We are happy to do any of those, or make other reasonable arrangements.

I would ask that you consider option (c) because it would help us cover fixed, sunk losses for 2020, such as insurance, that we can absorb through 2021. If this is the case, we will leave your “CONFIRMED/PAID” registration in place in the 2020 match database and use that as a key to future credit.

Please do not send a request for a refund check UNLESS you can confirm you’re still marked as “CONFIRMED/PAID” — AND — your bank shows the check has cleared. I have been holding checks for the last about 3-4 weeks as the situation has gotten hotter.

Please send refund requests with your name, match name (SS, BOTC, SAC, TS), and registration number.

Thank you and if you have any questions, please contact us. – Zak & Jimmy
