Emma Cruises

How Much Do Drinks Cost on Cruise Ships? Menus and Comparisons

If you’re taking a cruise you may be wondering how much drinks cost on average onboard.

There are a number of factors that affect the prices of drinks and which drinks are included in the cruise fare, the biggest of these being the cruise line that you cruise with.

That said, most cruise lines have drinks prices that are similar to each other.

How Much Do Drinks Cost on a Cruise Ship?

On a cruise, a beer will usually cost around $7, a glass of wine $10, a cocktail $10, a soda $3, and a speciality coffee $4.

Drinks prices vary between cruise lines and gratuities (tips) may be added on top of the menu price as standard.

Below are examples from some of the largest cruise lines

Cruise lines alter their drinks prices regularly, so the above table is meant to be a guide only.

As you can see the prices do vary although not very dramatically.

On some cruise lines like MSC and Costa, you’ll find the prices on the menus in Euros. (€)

With British cruiselines like Fred Olsen and P&O Cruises, you’ll find that the menu is in Pound Sterling. (£) .

With the majority of cruise lines, you’ll find the prices in US Dollars, ($) even if the cruise isn’t sailing out of the US.

Gratuities Are Often Added On To The Price

It’s important to remember that gratuities may be added to the prices of the drinks on the Menus.

This is a very common practice and is added by most of the American Cruise lines. British Cruiselines like P&O don’t do this.

The gratuity automatically added to drinks is usually around 15% of the price listed on the menu.

The gratuities go towards the tips for the staff and are designed so that passengers don’t have to tip in cash. That said, many people still prefer to tip in cash.

Gratuities that are automatically added to the price of drinks cannot be removed.

When i sailed on Celebrity Edge a can of Coke cost around $5. (The cost of the Coke was $4, and then they added a 20% charge for leaning into the cooler and giving it to you!)

Find out about that Amazing – but costly cruise here:

On a lot of cruise lines, you’ll also find that a daily gratuity is added to your cabin account per person per night.

This is usually upwards from $15 per person per night and goes towards paying housekeeping, waiters, bartenders, and various other behind-the-scenes roles such as the laundry.

It is usually possible to remove this but I would strongly encourage against it as many crew members rely on this source of income.

On many British Cruiselines like P&O and Marella gratuities are included in the cruise fare. If you book an MSC cruise from the UK, this is also the case.

I recently took a trip on MSC’s newest and biggest ship, World Europa. Find out what I thought of her here:

To learn more about gratuities, including how they also affect drinks and spa treatments, check out this post so that you don’t have any nasty surprises on your cruise:

Cruise Gratuities: A Simple Step by Step Guide For First Time Cruisers

The below gratuities are added to all drinks. The prices on the menus don’t include gratuities.

Drinks Package or Pay as You Go

There are two ways that you can pay for drinks on a cruise. You can either pay as you go, like you would on land or buy a drinks package.

A drinks package usually allows you to have an ‘unlimited’ amount of certain drinks although there are a few different types of drinks packages available. The most comment types are:

Soda Packages

A soda package usually provides unlimited fountain Soda, cans may cost extra. Not all cruise lines offer this package which I find annoying as it’s always my go-to.

If you’re not a big drinker of alcohol getting a soda package and buying the odd alcoholic drink on top can work out to be much better value.

Soda package P&O's Arvia

How Much Do Soda Packages Cost On A Cruise?

Package costs.

Cruise ships offer several drinks packages, with different drinks included. Typically, you will be able to choose a :

  • Soda package
  • Soft drinks package
  • Classic drinks package
  • Premium/Deluxe Drinks package

A soda-only package on Royal Caribbean costs £13.95/$17.50 a day. A Deluxe drinks package costs around £83/$105 .

On Norwegian Cruise Line, a soda-only package is around £8/$10 and a Premium drinks package is £108/$138 – that can add up to a lot of money very quickly!

A soda package onboard the British Cruiseline P&O costs around £10/$12.50. The Deluxe drinks package onboard is a far more reasonable but still expensive £50/$63 a day.

Cruise Lines change prices and offer discounts regularly, so the above amounts – although correct at the time of writing – will only offer a guide.

Soft Drinks Packages

Almost all cruise lines will have some form of soft drinks package. This will usually include soda, speciality juices, teas, coffees, and sometimes mocktails.

If you don’t drink alcohol a soft drinks package can be a great option. I go for this when a soda package isn’t available and it is very nice to be able to try all of the mocktails on the menu.

Some soft drinks packages will also include things like milkshakes.

Cafe Al Bacio Celebrity Edge. Cake and Cookies

How Much Does a Soft Drinks Package Cost on a Cruise?

The price of soft drinks packages varies dramatically because each cruise line includes different drinks in the package.

The average cost of a soft drinks package with a mainstream cruise line in $23 with prices varying from around $16 to $38 per person per day.

Alcohol Packages

Alcohol packages vary dramatically and what is included varies too.

On most cruise lines you’ll find that there are different ‘levels’ of alcohol packages. This may be called something like a ‘basic’ and ‘premium’ package.

Alcohol packages usually have limitations and one of these may be that you can only order drinks up to a certain value.

To find out more about whether it is worth buying a drink package, read this article next:

Drinks Packages Aren’t Worth it For Me – Here’s How I Decide (Price Lists & More)

How Much Does an Alcoholic Drinks Package Cost on a Cruise?

The price of alcoholic packages varies dramatically and there are usually different packages available within each cruise line.

All-inclusive alcohol package ranging from around $62 with P&O to $138 with Norwegian Cruise Line .

There are many cheaper options than these alcoholic packages, and they are not right for everybody.

There may be multiple tiers between the soft drinks prices mentioned above the alcohol prices mentioned below. It’s very important to do your research into the specific cruise line.

Other Types of Drink Packages

There are other types of drinks packages available on cruises but these vary by the cruise line.

On some, you can buy beer or wine-specific packages and are able to buy a certain amount of drinks for a certain price.

For example, you may be able to buy ten bottles of wine for a reduced price.

wine

Terms and Conditions

There are usually some terms and conditions placed on drinks packages:

  • There may be a limit on the number of drinks you can have in 24 hours.
  • You may be only to order on drink at a time, with limits set on how often you can order them.
  • There may be a price limit on the drinks that are included.
  • If one guest buys the package all others in the stateroom may have to.
  • Drinks packages cannot be shared.
  • The majority of drinks packages exclude bottled water.
You Can’t Share a Drinks Package on a Cruise – Here’s Why

How do you book drinks packages on a cruise?

Most drink packages can be bought online before the cruise.

It’s often cheaper to do this if you can. Most cruise lines will have an online portal that you can log into after you’ve booked the cruise, this is where you can look for things like drinks and excursions.

If you are unable to buy before the cruise this isn’t a problem, there will be plenty of people onboard trying to sell you a drinks package when you embark.

* Virgin Voyages and Disney cruiselines don’t sell drinks packages. All drinks are paid for individually, as you would at a bar on land.

How to Pay For Drinks on a Cruise

Cruise ships are completely cashless societies. You cannot buy a drink on a cruise using cash.

All drinks bought will be added to your cruise account via you card, which is given to you at check-in.

This is linked to your credit/debit card and you’ll be charged after the cruise for everything that you’ve spent. This makes spending money INCREDIBLY easy but it’s very important to remember that you’re still spending money!

To learn more about why you can’t use cash on a cruise, check out this post:

Cruise Ships Are Cashless Societies, Here’s Why

Find Free Drinks on a Cruise

There are several places where you can find free drinks on a cruise if you know where to look. Good places to look are:

  • Welcome parties
  • Meetups (Cruise Critic, groups, etc)
  • Loyalty status meetups
  • Product seminars (For example in the spa)
  • Art auctions

It’s important to remember that although you can buy tea and coffee in the bars onboard at an extra charge, there is free tea and coffee available in the buffet on most cruise ships. Some cruise lines will even provide tea and coffee-making facilities in their cabins.

To learn more about which expenses you can avoid paying for on a cruise, check out this video:

Bringing on Your Own Drinks

On some cruise lines, it is possible to bring your own drinks onboard at embarkation.

The majority of cruise lines do charge a ‘Corkage Fee’ if you want to drink in the bars or restaurants onboard.

This isn’t anything to do with the actual corking on the drink so you can’t get around it by corking it yourself!

Norwegian Cruise Line charges a “Corkage Fee” as soon as you bring a bottle onboard, regardless of whether you drink it in a restaurant, or in your own cabin.

Can You Bring Drinks on a Cruise

Which cruise lines have a ‘corkage fee’?

  • Azamara – YES
  • Carnival – YES
  • Cunard – YES
  • Celebrity – YES
  • Disney – YES
  • Fred Olsen – NO
  • Holland America – YES
  • Hurtigruten – NO
  • Marella Cruises – NO
  • MSC – NO
  • Norwegian Cruise Line – YES
  • P&O Cruises – YES
  • Princess Cruises – YES
  • Royal Caribbean – YES
  • Viking – NO

Click on the links above to learn more about the specific cruise line policies in regard to bringing alcohol on board.

It’s also worth noting that some cruise lines will let you bring on drinks in ports other than the embarkation port.

If a cruise line does this can be a great way to buy a cheap bottle of wine in port, come back to the ship, and enjoy it on your balcony.

How much for a pint? Cruise Line Drink Prices Compared

Wondering how much to budget for the bar on your next cruise?  Prices for beer , wine, and spirits vary wildly, but we put together some data to make comparing alcohol prices at sea a bit easier.  Keep in mind, cruise lines adjust pricing frequently. The same drink on the same cruise line can be priced differently between ships or even different sailings on the same ship.  Where we’ve found multiple prices for the same drink on the same line, we’ve listed the highest price we’ve found so far.

There are so many different types of beers, wines, and spirits that, for now, we’re going to stick to one beer and one vodka priced across a number of lines.  While you can use these as proxies for each line's alcohol prices, know that there will be some outliers.

How much is beer on a cruise ship?

How Much is a Beer on a Cruise Ship?

Below are the most up-to-date prices we found for a 16 oz bottle of Budweiser.

*the latest prices we could find for Cunard showed they served 330 milliliter bottles (approximately 11 oz), so we adjusted the price to reflect the cost of 16 oz

Thoughts on Beer Prices

For those looking for a cheap beer at sea, MSC not only has the lowest price on this list, but they also offer drafts (usually Heineken) for as low as $3!  That's not the only way to save though. Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has long offered a " beer mug" deal where you purchase a rather sturdy souvenir DCL mug and then pay the same menu price to fill it, but you get a 21 oz pour instead of 16 oz.

An Objectively Unflattering Shot of My Friend & I With DCL Beer Mugs

How Much is Liquor on a Cruise Ship?

Below are the most up-to-date prices we found for a serving of Absolut vodka.  As best as we can gather, these are all for 1.5 oz pours.

Thoughts on Liquor Prices

We noticed that liquor is a tricky thing to gauge prices on. More than beer , the prices vary between lines.  For example, a pour of Grey Goose at $12 on Royal Caribbean is $11 on Holland America.  A pour of Laphroaig 10 on Royal Caribbean costs $13 compared to $8.50 on Holland America.  We're continuing to collect data and hope to publish additional comparisons to this page as we spot them.

Mixed Drink Prices

We didn’t compare any mixed drink prices for several reasons.  Even if you find a drink that is commonly found on menus (say, a screwdriver, or a rum and coke), it often isn’t clear what brand of spirit you’ll get in that drink.  Further, the pour amounts in a mixed drink may be different than a drink ordered straight up or neat. This in mind, on most lines you can expect that a drink with more than three ingredients and a pretty garnish will run you upwards of $10. If you’re in a specialty bar where mixology is the focus (such as Eden on Celebrity Edge , or the Alchemy Bar on a Carnival ship), you’ll find signature cocktails to be a as high as $18.

Cruise Line Drink Packages

Many cruise lines push drink packages harder than ever, which may incentivize them to increase the prices of each drink. The more guests who purchase drink packages , the more onboard revenue.  It’s important when considering a drink package to think of non-alcoholic beverages that may be included as well, such as fresh-squeezed juices and specialty coffee drinks. Also critical to consider is how much your go-to drink costs. The value proposition is quite different for a cruiser enjoying $12 Glenmorangie and one sticking to $6 domestic beers.   In this post , we dive much deeper into drink packages and help you decide the best choice for you.

Drink Package Anyone?

Cruise Ship Bar Menus

We’ve got a small but rapidly growing section of menus and daily programs for several cruise lines .  In addition, you can find menus for Royal Caribbean bars and restaurants at Royal Caribbean Blog .  Further, EatSleepCruise.com has photos of a number of specialty bar menus from ships on various cruise lines.

How have you found drink prices to vary from line to line?  Comment below, or reach out on Facebook or Twitter .  If you have menus you'd like to share, please contact us !

  • The Cost of Drinking on a Cruise

A bar onboard a cruise ship fully stocked with different types of alcohol and beverages

The all-inclusive nature of a cruise vacation is perhaps its biggest attraction – inclusive of accommodations, food and many activities for a single price whilst cruising to far-off exotic destinations. It’s the perfect hassle-free vacation style for many people who crave the easy life and no-nonsense trip planning. The only thing missing is the free booze. Those endless poolside piña coladas can soon add up. Cruises undoubtedly offer superb value for money, but a few drinks each day can seriously blow your planned vacation budget out of the water. If you have a taste for beer, wine or hard liquor you could effectively see that ultra-cheap short cruises almost double in price. There is no getting away from the fact that shipboard drinks are expensive, even before gratuities are factored in. From $8 beers to $15 cocktails, drinking on a cruise can easily rack up an onboard bill of hundreds of dollars.

Sure you can abstain, but where is the fun in that? You can still enjoy your guilty pleasures without the worry of a huge bar tab with a little creative planning. Check out our insightful tips to make your dollars go that much further with drinks on cruises, and the all-important question of whether a prepaid drinks package or a-la-carte pricing is best for you.

Are there any free drinks on cruises?

Can i carry alcohol and beverages onboard the cruise ship, the truth about cruise line beverage packages, do i need to buy a beverage package on my cruise, inclusive drinks on a luxury cruise, tips about drinking on your cruise vacation, raising your glass without the sticker shock.

Tea, coffee, tap water and non-carbonated drinks are often free for all passengers throughout the cruise in certain areas of the ship, but alas, you’ll have to shell out cash for your favourite alcoholic drinks on cruises. However, there are a few creative ways to score free drinks. If you can sit through the art auction, you can happily sip free wine or score free drinks (and nibbles) on cruises at the captain's cocktail party, which is usually open to all passengers on or before formal night.

Perhaps the best way to drink for free is to show your loyalty. Once you have taken a cruise with a line, you will be enrolled in their loyalty program, which unlocks a whole range of opportunities for free or cheaper boozing, depending on your tier status. This could entail invites to welcome-back parties and other social events with free drinks, or discount coupons for half-price drinking on a cruise.

Sign up and we'll send the best cruise deals to your inbox.

The simple answer is almost always no. However, that doesn’t deter hundreds of cruisers every year from trying to sneak bottles of scotch, rum and vodka aboard in a variety of creative ways. A quick browse of YouTube will find dozens of videos promising success with their sneaky booze smuggling hacks, but the simple fact is the cruise lines are aware of every trick out there. The penalty for getting caught? First up the embarrassment factor of being treated like a naughty school child is perhaps not the best way to kick off a cruise vacation. The illicit bottles will be confiscated until the end of the cruise and quite possibly you may never get them back. In the worst case scenario, there is even the threat of getting kicked off the ship which is perhaps unlikely, but worth keeping in mind before you hatch your smuggling plan.

There are some exceptions to the no-booze in bags rule. For many people, a cruise trip is a special occasion – perhaps an anniversary, birthday or even a honeymoon. A bottle of wine or Champagne is permitted on some lines to toast the occasion, although you may be liable for the corkage fee if imbibing in one of the shipboard restaurants. Bringing your own bottled water, soda and juice is allowed on some cruise lines although quite strict limits are set.

Alcohol Polices for Cruise Lines

It sounds pretty enticing. Pay once prior to sailing and enjoy unlimited booze for the duration of your cruise. It’s easy to see the appeal of an ‘all you can drink’ package - no more worrying about running up a huge bar tab. Simply head to the bar, order what you like and enjoy. If you like a tipple, surely it’s a no-brainer. But not so fast… Not all prepaid drinks packages are made equal and each one has its own restrictions. Is an inclusive alcoholic beverages package right for you? That depends. Firstly, let’s look at the cost. They run for $50-60 per person per day (plus service charge), which means you will need to down quite a few drinks a day to make it worthwhile financially. Based on $10 cocktails, you would need to drink at least 6 each day. You’ll need to do the math to work out whether unlimited drinks on cruises offer any cost benefits, or check out one of the online drinks package calculators . Also factor in port of call days. You are required to buy the beverage package for every day of your cruise but you will likely not make full use of it with a full-day excursion on shore.

There are also a number of other restrictions to bear in mind before diving in and booking that booze-inclusive package. Most drinks packages have a unit cost upper limit of $12-$15 per drink, depending on the cruise line’s policy. If your favorite tipple is a more expensive premium single malt Scotch, you will have to pay the difference in price. Although wine by the glass is covered, whole bottles of wine are not, but there are sizable discounts offered for wine bottle purchases (up to 40%). Some lines also offer dedicated wine packages.

What about teetotaler cruisers and kids? There is a range of prepaid packages for you too. In fact there are even more non-alcoholic options available on most cruise lines, including Carnival Cruise Line’s ‘Bottomless Bubbles,’ Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.  It starts with the soda package which is self-explanatory. You get unlimited refills at the soda fountain starting at under $10 a day depending on the line, and often involve a discount rate for kids. Regular and premium non-alcoholic drinks packages invariably bundles iced tea, fresh juices, specialty coffees, and mocktails for around $20 a day.  Other beverage packages include coffee-only and bottled water only options.

If you decide to opt for one of the inclusive beverage packages, plan ahead and book it in advance to snag a discount. Most lines offer cheaper rates if booked in advance which can save you 10%-30%. From time to time, cruise lines roll out great cruise vacation deals which bundle a cheap base cruise fare with one or more added perks. Oftentimes this includes a free drinks package, or onboard credit.  A well-timed booking could you save a ton of money .

People sitting at a table enjoying their drinks on a cruise

Beverage packages are not compulsory but there are very distinct rules governing what you can and cannot do with them. There is the obvious temptation to pay for one package and surreptitiously share it with your cruisemates. This is forbidden by virtually all lines, which mandates that if one person orders an alcoholic inclusive beverage package, every adult above drinking age in the same stateroom must also. This combats sneaky sharers but also makes it less attractive if your significant other is either a teetotaler or just a light drinker.

Another significant drawback for some cruisers is that drinks packages have to be purchased for the entirety of the cruise. So, consider this scenario: you have a big blowout on the first night and wish to take it easy the following day to nurse a hangover, so you are unlikely to get the cost benefit. Occasional drinkers are usually better off ordering a la carte.

Cruise Lines Beverage Package Cost

Only the ultra-luxury cruise lines offer a true all-inclusive product which means no bloated bar tab to pay off on checkout. Simply order what you want and enjoy. These lines, which include Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn, Silversea and Crystal Cruises, include gratuities and all alcoholic and soft drinks in the cruise fare, including Champagne, so overall, it’s a more civilized, hassle-free and transparent way to cruise – for a price. Obviously, you are not selecting a cruise on a high-end line simply to avoid high drinks prices. It’s not just mainstream label drinks included; you also get high-end whiskies and premium wine vintages.

Premium lines like Azamara Club Cruises adopt a slightly different drinks policy with standard spirits, international beers, and a small selection of wines included in the cruise fare. There is the option to upgrade to a premium beverage package offering high-end liquors, Scotch and Champagne by the glass. There is also a Wine Connoisseur Package. On Oceania Cruises you get complimentary still and sparkling water, soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas with a choice of two alcoholic drinks packages. Enjoy unlimited drinks during lunch and dinner or at any time throughout the day.

An extravagant cocktail at the bar of a luxury cruise line

  • Drinking responsibly:  You’re on vacation, the sun is shining and you’re cruising leisurely to an exotic location. What’s not to love about cruising? You’re in vacation mode with a celebratory mood so the drinks are flowing more than usual. However you don’t want to go overboard – figuratively and literally. There is the ever-present risk of drinking to excess with a prepaid beverage package. You’ve paid upfront and now you can relax without having to worry about the cost. Sure, you want to get your money’s worth but too many booze-filled late nights can severely hamper the overall cruise experience. There is nothing worse than fighting off a raging hangover during an eagerly awaited shore excursion.  While you may come across the occasional group of boisterous boozers in a bar, the cruising fraternity is generally laid back and responsible enough to realize when enough is enough.
  • Drinking on a budget:  You’ve decided an alcoholic drinks package is not for you but there are still dollars to be saved with a well-planned drinking strategy. Savvy cruisers like a tipple but know just how to get more bang for their buck. Rule #1 is to look out for the various happy hours in your ship’s bars. Generally speaking, there will likely be pre- and post-dinner drinks deals, from around 5-6pm and then again from 10pm-midnight. They could range from half-price on the first drink, BOGO specials or any number of other incentives. Check out the daily newsletter for advertised happy hours, although sometimes other ad-hoc cheap deals may only be advertised in the bar itself.  Liquor tastings take place on most cruises offering freebies (or heavily discounted drinks) or join a cocktail-making class for a fee and once you’ve made your cocktail masterpieces, you get to drink them, which works out at half-price or less per glass compared to normal bar service.
  •  Drinking age: The minimum age limit for drinking alcohol is 21 departing a cruise from a US port, however guests aged 18 to 20 may drink provided a parent or guardian (who must be aboard the ship) signs a declaration form giving permission. In this instance, under 21s may drink only when the ship is in international waters. So for cruise ships sailing in Hawaii or Alaska the age limit is strictly 21.

The various policies and restrictions to the different drinks packages can mystify even the most experienced cruisers. In short, there is no simple one-stop solution for all, so it takes careful planning and the ability to accurately calculate your expected budget for drinks. Whether a la carte or an all-in drinks package, you have plentiful options. It’s important to note that you are on vacation, and worrying too much over every dime will detract from the overall mood. Go ahead and do the math, plan your strategy, but be spontaneous too. Sometimes it’s good to just go with the flow.  We have highlighted just a few ways to save on the cost of drinks but there are many other creative ways to keep your costs down – check back for a dedicated article on the best hacks to get cheap drinks on cruises .

Cruise drink packages: A line-by-line guide

Gene Sloan

It's easy to run up a monster bill ordering wine, beer and mixed drinks by the glass on a cruise ship. The cost of alcoholic drinks on cruise vessels — particularly cocktails — can be pricey. But for those who regularly order several alcoholic drinks a day when cruising, there's a way to save: a flat-fee drink package.

Nearly all the major mass-market cruise lines offer flat-fee drink packages that, in some cases, can save you money when cruising. The exceptions are Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages , though both offer alternative ways to save on beverage purchases.

What's included in a cruise ship drink package, and how do they work? And, perhaps more to the point, how much do cruise drink packages cost? Read on for the answers in this ultimate guide to cruise drink packages.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

What is a drink package on a cruise ship?

Cruise ship drink packages let you order as many drinks as you want while on a cruise for one flat fee. This takes the place of paying for drinks one at a time.

At some lines, there are several tiers of drink packages. Basic tiers often include just sodas and bottled water. More elaborate (and expensive) tiers will add alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, wine, beer and specialty coffee drinks. In some cases, there will be more than one tier of such all-encompassing plans.

Some lines also offer coffee cards that let you get a fixed number of fancy coffee drinks at a shipboard coffee bar for a discounted price. Some also offer wine-specific packages.

How much do alcoholic drink packages cost on cruise ships?

The cost of cruise ship drink packages varies widely by line. At several of the biggest cruise brands, including Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America , the main drink packages that include all types of drinks cost about $60 per person per day. Other brands, such as Norwegian Cruise Line , charge as much as $138 per person per day for a top-tier package.

Drink packages that don't include alcoholic drinks, such as soda packages, typically cost far less. Soda packages often are under $10 per person per day. Note that some cruise lines discount drink packages if you buy them online in advance of sailing, and others offer periodic sales on their drink packages online.

Can you buy drinks on a cruise without a drink package?

beer cruise ship price

Yes. All major cruise lines will let you buy drinks on an a la carte basis when cruising. You don't need a drink package to be able to drink alcoholic beverages or any other type of beverage on a ship.

Can you share a drink package on a cruise ship?

In many cases, no. Several of the biggest cruise lines, including Carnival, Holland America and MSC Cruises, have a rule that if one adult in a cabin orders a drink package, all adults in the cabin must order the package. This is to prevent two or more people in a cabin from sharing a single drink package.

Two lines that notably don't have such a rule are Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises . Technically, you are not supposed to use your package to buy drinks for other people.

Are drink packages on cruise ships really unlimited?

It depends. Some cruise lines, such as Carnival, limit the number of alcoholic drinks that any one person can order using a drink package to 15 in a day. That is, of course, an enormous number — more than most people will ever want to order.

Where can you use a cruise ship drink package?

Cruise ship drink packages generally are honored anywhere you can order a drink on a ship — think bars, lounges and eateries. However, you usually can't use them when ordering room service. They also generally don't apply to drinks taken out of cabin minibars. Be sure to check the fine print in your particular line's drink package before placing an order for a drink to your room.

Some cruise lines also let you use your packages when visiting their private islands .

Someone posted on A Facebook page that they thought Carnival was no longer having Michelob Ultra on their beer menu. Is this correct?

Not 100% sure as I don’t have the latest menu in front of me. However, looking through pictures from my most recent cruise, I don’t see Michelob Ultra on the bar display. This could just be an oversight, but eight other beers are displayed.

Carnival Cruise Line 2024 Drink Menus and Pricing

Last Updated on March 10, 2024

In the past, embarking on a cruise meant encountering the same routine selection of beverages across all venues. Your options typically included classics like daiquiris, pina coladas, and, if the menu dared to be bold, perhaps a mojito. Today, the drink landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Cruise ship bars now boast a diverse array of choices, featuring craft beers, premium spirits, and meticulously concocted cocktails. It’s an entirely new experience.

Carnival Cruise Line, in particular, has taken this evolution to heart, revolutionizing its drink offerings with a tailored menu for almost every bar on their ships. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially when considering that a single ship can host between 10 and 15 bars.

Carnival will be increasing drink menu prices in the first part of 2024. The new menus are already in place on the Carnival Jubilee and we expect other ships to follow in January and February.

See a new menu on your ship? Email it to us so we can share with everyone, [email protected]

Below you’ll find the bar menus found on the Carnival Cruise Line’s ships. Carnival has a pretty robust beverage program and usually has different drinks available at nearly every bar on a ship, so you’ll see a ton of drink options below. For drinks offered at multiple venues, the prices are consistent (i.e., a Coors Light and the Atrium Bar will cost the same as a Coors Light at the Pool Bar). When looking at the prices, remember to consider gratuities. Carnival automatically adds an 18% gratuity added to all beverage purchases.

Bonsai Sushi is the place to go if you’re looking for fresh sushi on a Carnival cruise. While you’re there, have one of these specialty cocktails. Unfortunately, cocktails are unavailable on Ecstasy, Elation, Freedom, and Miracle as they have a Bonsai Sushi Express, not a dedicated restaurant.

Menu is from the Carnival Radiance January 2024.

This bar may be confusing because Carnival uses odd naming for their venues. While many ships have “Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ,” few have the actual Smokehouse and Brewhouse, which has cocktails. The Smokehouse/Brewhouse is a sit-down restaurant with a large bar serving some great cocktails. They even have a brewery right inside this bar where they make their own beer! You can find it on the  Carnival Celebration ,  Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee ,  Carnival Mardi Gras , and  Carnival Panorama .

If you’re a beer fan, I highly recommend the Brewery Tour for $30 a person. You can read more about the Carnival Pig & Anchor Brewery Tour here .

The RedFrog Pub is the Caribbean-themed indoor bar that’s located on the lower level of many Carnival ships. It’s different than the RedFrog Rum Bar which is found in the Lido Pool Deck Area. You can find it on the Breeze , Freedom , Legend , Magic , Miracle , Pride , Radiance , Splendor , Spirit , Sunshine , Sunrise , and Valor .

Today’s Bonus Cruising Tip

I ALWAYS buy  travel insurance  (especially during these uncertain times) to cover my cruises, but I  NEVER purchase it through Princess. It costs more and usually covers less than policies you purchase on your own. I go through sites like  travelinsurance.com  to compare plans and prices and get the best deal for the coverage I want.  Spend less on insurance  and spend more on cocktails, excursions, special onboard cruise experiences, and…future cruises!

NCL Drink Prices & Bar Menus

Norwegian Cruise Line drink menus tend to be the same fleet-wide and are consistent across most ships. Changes in what is available in the bars are normally based on each ship’s venues and bars.

For example, there is a whiskey bar menu and a martini bar menu, but those venues aren’t on all ships. Additionally, ships with wine cellars or wine bars have an expanded menu.

  • SEE : Norwegian Cruise Line Beverage Packages – Are They Worth It?

What do drinks cost on Norwegian Cruise Line?

Most beer is $7 , some wines are as inexpensive as $9-$13/glass and cocktails range $10-$15. There are specialty drinks that are obviously more expensive, but in general, the costs for beverages are reasonable with NCL.

Don’t forget the gratuities on drinks

If you’re NOT on a drink or beverage package, Norwegian Cruise Line charges an additional 20% gratuity on every drink purchase .

Bottled water and coke prices on NCL

For non-drinkers, the cost of a soda ranges from $3-$3.50 depending on which bar you order from and bottled water ranges from $4 for boxed water (500ml) to $6 for premium water like Aqua Panna.

**NOTE** Some of the menus show Pepsi products, as these were taken during the last days that Pepsi was served (Jan 2023) – Pepsi has now been replaced by Coke on the ships.

Now to the drink menus!

Whiskey Bar menu (i.e. Maltings Bar on NCL Epic)

For american whiskey lovers on ncl (updated 2024).

Norwegian Cruise Line has a relatively impressive Whiskey menu. Below are the standard options across the ships for American whiskey (with prices). This can vary a bit.

NCL Martini Bar menu

Shipwide beverage & bar menu for all norwegian cruise line ships.

These menus are fleetwide and shipwide where you’ll find them in almost all of the lounges and bars.

The HAVEN Bar Menu

You’ll notice that most of the menu has prices of just a few dollars, this is presuming the passenger has the NCL premium beverage package and will only pay the difference in the drink prices.

Wine Menu across the whole NCL Fleet

Wine menu on ncl ships with a wine bar (i.e. cellars or mondavi).

Some ships have branded wine bars by Mondavi, and those menus rotate availability on occasion. Here are some examples of what you may see in a Modavi branded wine bar on Norwegian Cruise Line

First timer on NCL and we have a drink package covering $1400.0 each, it’s a 5 day Bahama’s cruise on the Sky, in your experience, is the $1400 “enough”? Thanks

Hello! I think you’re referring to the value of the “Free at Sea” or basic drink package. It’s basically unlimited drinks up to $15/each for that price, so I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be enough!

Hi Phil – first time NCL cruiser. With regards to martinis on board. If I order a Ketel One martini will that put me over the $15 free at sea limit for one drink since it has two shots in it plus the vermouth?

Hi Todd, The drinks are priced per cocktail not by how many shots there are in the actual drink (thankfully!) 🙂 – So if you order a martini or any other multi-shot drink, it’ll be the price on the menu regardless of the amount of alcohol. I think that’s what you’re asking. Enjoy your cruise!

I hope there is lots of Drambuie on board the Viva in June!!!! th 5 adults in our family always drink Port and Drambuie after dinner, and on some cruises the ship has run out of Drambuie. Fingers crossed!

There is PLENTY! 🙂 I can personally confirm that (without shame). Enjoy!

What about beers? You show everything that is avalable but I didn’t see any beers! I guess that they have classic big breweries but what about craft beers? They must have some.

Hi Sylvain – I’m actually updating all of the menus this week! After your comment, I made an effort to get all of the beer offerings on my latest cruise (NCL Joy Transatlantic)… I’ll post that here shortly.

Phil: Love there is an Irish Bar on EPIC!! I think you have Guinness…….do you also have Smithwicks and Harp? I still don’t see a beer list with pricing. Thanks. Bob G.

Hi Bob! I don’t recall seeing Harp or Smithwicks unfortunately 🙁 – I’m about to upload all new menus this coming week. We just did a cruise and got all new menus scanned.

Hi Phil. The wine list for ships with a wine cellar bar eg Mondavi, has “Premium Plus” against certain wines / champagnes. Does that mean that these glasses are available only to holders of Premium Plus? But are those holders also entitled to all wines which are served by the glass regardless of price? I understand that champagne on NCL for Premium Plus holders may now be restricted to its own Rose Champagne – but there are so many conflicting comments, who knows!?! Many thanks.

Hi Colin, With premium plus, you can order those specific bottles of wine at meals. The bottle is included in the package. If you have the basic beverage package, the price you see is what you’d pay for that bottle.

With premium plus, if it’s sold by the glass, it’s included always! **a few exceptions to this like Louis XIII which I think is $200 per oz – not surprising it’s not included 🙂

A good example is, where Veuve Clicquot use to be available everywhere on the ship by the glass (and included in Premium Plus), it’s now only in Le Bistro – and is still included with Premium Plus. So if it’s on the menu by the glass, order as much as you want!

So if you find a champagne sold by the glass somewhere, you’ll get it with the P+

A nifty unknown thing though, is some of the Specialty restaurants have a bar within the restaurant and you can go to that bar and order things that might not be available around the ship (like the above Veuve Clicquot)

I hope this helps – if not, let me know!

Wow! Thanks Phil. Not only one of the fastest responses to any on-line query I have made – but more information and facts than even NCL Customer Service could provide! Many thanks

Glad you found it helpful! Enjoy your cruise, and — break even on that package! 🙂

Any frozen cocktails lists?

Hi Nello – Yes! The very first menu has the most common frozen cocktails served (Primarily at the pool bars). They also do some unique drinks that aren’t on the menus.

These are super helpful!! Can’t wait to cruise – drink list prepared – on Sunday!

Glad this could help! Enjoy your cruise!

Do you happen to know how much mocktails, like virgin daiquiris, cost? I’ve yet to find a menu with them included.

Great question! I’ve never seen a menu of mocktails on any NCL cruise, but I know they make anything you want without alcohol. I have a friend that I travel with that doesn’t drink and she orders them all the time, but has a beverage package and never gets charged. I can only presume you should expect to pay the price on the menu, alcohol or not. Just know that they would be covered in a drink package and that they can be made on request. Sadly, I think NCL is missing a huge opportunity by not offering specific non-alcoholic drinks.

Thank you for all the menu information. Can you advise of the situation for a Cruise guest on a Free at Sea package, leaving from Marseille on 11 night package stopping at Barcelona, Palma,Naples,Rome,Livorno and Cannes, with regards additional taxes for drinks when in port or at sea? Many blogged cruisers have posted conflicting information.

It’s understandable why there is a lot of confusion. Spain has made some changes recently and random ports in other countries have different regulations.

Expect you’ll be paying 10% VAT on the VALUE of the drink while in spanish waters (within 12 miles of the coast, I believe). In the past, it was only while docked, now it it seems that the VAT tax is charged even while in Spanish water. I’m unsure about Italy and France – but our last cruise recently did not have any taxes while on the Free at Sea because officially we weren’t “buying” anything. Spain is the first country to close that loophole I think. But these Tax rules are changing rapidly, so what you read today may likely change. So far, however, aside from Spain, most taxes are charged for PURCHASES while IN PORT, and not in EVERY port. Confusing, right? In the end, it only adds up to a few dollars – but can still be a surprise.

The biggest change that happened recently was Spain declared that any ship departing a Spanish port would have these taxes charged regardless of the other ports, for the whole cruise. This will definitely add a significant amount to a bill even for the Free at Sea people! Since they’ll be charging on the value of the drink served, even if it’s Free or Included in the Free at Sea promotion.

I’ve yet to speak to anyone that has encountered this first hand… I think the rule just started in the past week or so. I’ll update the article as I know for sure!

Thanks for your reply,as you say very confusing indeed, however as our cruise is leaving from Marseille I can only assume that the charges will not apply for the full duration of the cruise.

I think you are correct, but be prepared for changes and the unexpected, since European countries are making changes with these types of tourism taxes.

What draught beers are available on board Norwegian Epic?

I actually don’t recall seeing any! They were all bottles. I’ve been on the epic 4 times and I don’t think there have ever been taps come to think of it.

Hi Mick, Thanks for sharing this! We’re planning on trip on the Norwegian Joy at New Years. What was the Whisky bar like on the Joy? Do you know if they’re changing the scotch/whisky options frequently?

Many thanks

Hi Nicole, We haven’t done the Joy (YET), but planning on the transatlantic back after it’s Jan 2024 refurb. That said, the Maltings Bar on the Encore (sister ship) was quite lovely, as it is on Epic. The menus are shared in the Maltings bars across all ships from what I’ve experienced. The changes that stand out between some of the ships is the fact that Johnny Walker Blue wasn’t available all the time (or even on the menu) but it was on the Encore. Other than that, the menu has basically been the same since 2019. Enjoy the cruise!

Why don’t any of these blog entries state how much a soda costs? If I knew how much a soda costs, I can determine if the ~$10/day is worth it for me. Thank you!

Hi Ann, If you take a look at some of the menus, they show sodas, etc. Expect to pay $3 for a soda + 20% service charge. Other non-alcoholic items like energy drinks and bottles of water, expect to spend about $5 each. (plus the service charge / gratuity )

What it’s like to sail on Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady cruise ship

The Resilient Lady's maiden voyage faced a rocky start with a technical malfunction during embarkation. Photo / Supplied

Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady is the cruise ship for people who don’t do cruise ships. Proudly adults-only, with no buffets and a medley of price inclusions that most cruise lines tag on. But does it live up to the hype? Lorna Riley jumps on board to find out.

It’s embarkation day for the first Australian sailing of Resilient Lady, the latest addition to Virgin Voyages cruise line, and the check-in process is not going smoothly. In fact — it’s not going at all. A technical malfunction has left a long line of eager Sailors (as Virgin dubs its passengers) snaking from the covered terminal out into the damp Melbourne day. Just as tempers start to fray, in rides a knight in shining armour. Well, a knight in freshly-pressed chinos to be precise: Sir Richard Branson, founder of the cruise line that’s part of his Virgin empire and a public relations maestro. He makes his way down the line of disgruntled sailors-in-waiting, personally apologising and posing for selfies, ensuring that these passengers will long be talking about the start, but now for all the right reasons; the ice-buckets of Möet that await in every cabin as way of recompense a welcome sweetener.

As we set sail, just slightly behind schedule, the initial teething problems are forgiven and forgotten as we get acquainted with the superyacht-inspired Resilient Lady and all her charms. She’s a full ship for this inaugural Australasian sailing, with about 2700 passengers on board. Virgin Voyages is renowned as an adults-only award-winning cruise line with the most 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor , so our expectations are high and we’re not disappointed.

For starters, technology is at the forefront here. Instead of the traditional key card, we’re each issued a wristband with an anchor fastening (a popular souvenir, prized by sailors post-voyage) — this is not only used to track any purchases aboard and for identification when alighting at a port, but also gains us access to our home away from home. In our instance, this is a Sea Terrace cabin on deck 10 — there’s a glam area to spruce ourselves up, a roomy rainshower in the cleverly designed bathroom, and a hand-woven terrace hammock overlooking sweeping views of the horizon. There’s ample storage too, although we do find that our suitcases are too big to fit under our bed as suggested. A push, press or swipe of the tablet, and we can control the mood lighting (which also intuitively matches the light from the oncoming sunset), the curtains and the TV which has myriad new release (and classic) movie options, and order ShipEats to be delivered (in a snazzy duffel bag). Pair this with the Virgin Voyages app, and all entertainment options, deck plans and shore excursions are literally at our fingertips. The most fun feature on the app is Shake for Champagne, where you can summon a bottle of the good stuff wherever on the ship you may be and toast your good fortune.

Many cruise lines have seemingly affordable fares but then sting you onboard with hefty charges for basic services; not so Virgin Voyages, with many luxuries included in the reasonable tariff. We have access to all the premium dining at Resilient Lady’s 20+ eateries with menus curated by Michelin star chefs and not a single buffet in sight: our favourite dining spots on board include Mexican-flavoured Pink Agave (with the biggest range of tequila at sea), The Test Kitchen (inspired by Escoffier’s Ma Cuisine, it’s a laboratory-like exploration for our taste buds), and the boldly designed Razzle Dazzle (a heady mix of healthy and decadent with a creative twist on some American classics), as well as The Galley for quick bites from a mix of shops and food-truck-style carts. It’s here we discover our standout dish of the entire five-night voyage from Melbourne to Melbourne by way of Tasmania : a ramen bowl from Korean BBQ restaurant Gunbae that’s the best we’ve tried anywhere.

Razzle Dazzle, a vegetarian-forward (and omnivore-friendly) restaurant, on board Virgin Voyages. Photo / Supplied

Also included in our fare is a basic drinks package, covering still and sparkling water, sodas, milkshakes, tea and drip-coffee. Any alcohol required can be charged to your cabin with the flick of the wrist(band) — for many sailings in this initial season, a bar tab is also included in the fare to get you started. Wi-Fi at sea can be expensive, but that’s another inclusive, as are gratuities for the hard-working, always effervescent crew. Fancy getting physical? Group fitness classes at B-Complex are also included, from yoga and meditation through to horizontal bungee workouts and HIIT training. And if you’re lucky enough to be a RockStar Sailor (those booked into a suite), you have access to Richard’s Rooftop, a lavish, elaborate and members-only outdoor space for stargazing parties and pre-dinner cocktail hours. The happy hours here (where complimentary Möet flows freely) are understandably popular, and a good chance to mingle with fellow VIPs.

Virgin Voyages' Rock Star Suites. Photo / Supplied

Last, but by no means least, oodles of award-winning entertainment is dished up as part of the fare. One evening we find ourselves tied up, quite literally, with fellow sailors as performers dance down our table and trapeze over our heads at Another Rose: Supper Club — it’s a unique experience that is equal parts cabaret, world-class dining and theatre spectacle. The Mind Mangler is hilariously bad as a failed mental telepathist until he stuns us with his final act that has the entire audience asking “How did he do that?!”. Miss Behave is a game show like no other, a wild night of fun and laughter with buckets of audience participation. And Scarlet Night, a highly-anticipated feature of every voyage, is a ship-wide event featuring an enormous inflatable octopus that takes over the top deck for a dance party, with red-clad sailors cavorting by the pool — and by the end of the evening, in the pool. The standout show for me is Persephone, a cutting-edge late-night production loosely based on the famous Greek myth and featuring a rock ‘n’ roll underworld outfitted with lavish costumes and dramatic action. A friend calls it the best show she’s ever seen at sea, and it’s hard to disagree.

Group fitness classes are included in the fare on Virgin Voyages' sailings, embracing a growing wellness trend in the cruise industry. Photo / Supplied

Our five-night voyage has two Tasmanian ports of call: an overnighter in Hobart, and a day stay at Burnie, but there’s no doubt that the real destination is the Resilient Lady herself. There are no under-18s on board but a Virgin Voyages cruise is like a free-spirited, adults-only playground that appeals to the child in all of us. The adult seesaw is in constant use, as are a life-size game of Twister and seaside swings. We relive our misspent youth in the arcade with free retro games like Space Invaders and Donkey Kong, party like it’s 1985 at Club Rubiks, and drop into the Social Club to check out the air hockey and foosball tables. Classic fairground fare like hot dogs and popcorn plus boozy floats and milkshakes are also served, and we find ourselves at the naughtily-named Lick Me Til Ice Cream more than once. The main pool is a popular hangout with its Ibiza beach club vibe, while Gym and Tonic serves up not only the latest fitness equipment, but also the largest jacuzzi at sea, the Wellbeing Pool. There are more than 10 bars throughout the ship, each with their unique entertainment: returning to our cabin after dinner one evening, we hear a Violent Femmes banger emanating from a nearby lounge and end up dancing to one of the best covers bands I’ve ever heard. There’s a record shop, private karaoke booths, designer boutiques, and a sizeable casino (with James Bond-inspired decor) which operates when the ship is sailing and even offers gaming lessons for the uninitiated.

Boredom is not an option, with activities to suit all tastes: trivia games to an onboard pub crawl, meetups for solo travellers, scavenger hunts and dance classes. Perhaps the most fun activity is the VHS Workout (Videos, Headbands and Simmons). Held in nightclub The Manor, the class is a return to ‘80s aerobics, led by fitness personality Richard Simmons on the big screen. Replete in fluoro leg warmers and lycra, this is a camp workout and nostalgia trip all in one. The B-Complex outdoor Training Camp offers workout equipment with a mini boxing ring; the Runway is a jogging track with the best views; and there’s even a basketball court. I have my own “nothing but net” moment at the Athletic Club, where brave sailors can walk out onto a suspended catamaran net and hang out (quite literally) 16 decks above the ocean.

Resilient Lady boasts 20+ eateries curated by Michelin-star chefs, offering diverse dining experiences. Photo / Supplied

The Virgin Voyages philosophy is “retox then detox”, and there’s no better place to do the latter than at Redemption Spa, which promises a healthy dose of Vitamin Sea through a salt stone massage or a rejuvenating facial. The Thermal Suite offers a hydrotherapy pool, mud room, salt room, cold plunge pools, and quartz beds. Pampering continues at Dry Dock, the on-board blowout bar, and Stubble and Groom barbershop, where you can get a shave with a side of whiskey or beer. I treat myself to a shellac manicure at Tune Up with some of the best views on the ship, and have to strongly resist the urge to take home a permanent souvenir of the trip from Squid Ink, the onboard tattoo parlour.

All too soon, our five-night flirtation with Resilient Lady is over, and despite a jam-packed itinerary, there was so much left undone. We’ve had a little taste of the good, a seamless blend of luxury and leisure, and we’re left wanting more: another cruise with Virgin Voyages is definitely an idea I could get on board with.

The Best Ways to Save Money on Your Disney Cruise Line Trip

Looking to save money on your next Disney cruise? While all Disney Cruise Line sailings feature an all-inclusive price, there are still additional costs that you need to plan for. We’re sharing our best tips for budgeting and saving money when planning your Disney cruise sailing.

Sailing on a Disney cruise is like no other, but all magic comes at a price. All Disney Cruise Line sailings are all-inclusive, meaning that your per-person cost includes the room, meals, snacks , and select drinks. However, there are still plenty of additional charges to plan for. Whether it’s an additional cost meal or cocktails (neither of which are included in your sailing price), there are still ways to budget and save onboard your Disney Cruise Line ship — as well as save on your next sailing. We’re sharing our best tips on how to get the most bang for your buck and save money on your next Disney cruise.

[metaslider id=”96331″]

$5 Drink Of The Day

Although Disney Cruise Line does not offer an all-you-can-drink package, like most other cruise lines do, what Disney does offer are daily drink specials. Each day, Disney Cruise Line will have a ”drink of the day,” which will cost just $5. The “drink of the day” can be found on your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and will change every single day, making for a great variety of drinks, all while still saving money on cocktails. A normal cocktail ranges from $9 to $14 and can sometimes be even more depending on what type of liquor you are ordering.

On my most recent cruise, Disney offered many “drinks of the day,” ranging from Mai Tais to Bahama Mamas to a Cool Breeze.  Disney also offers non-alcoholic “drinks of the day,” which mainly consist of specialty smoothies.

Wine and Beer Packages

Disney cruises are nearly all-inclusive, but some beverages, including wine and beer, are an additional charge. If If you are a wine or beer lover, consider Disney’s wine package or beer package aboard the ship.

Prices for the wine package range from $95 to over $300, depending on how many bottles you decide you want included in your package and if you opt for the classic or premium wine package. However, this could be a great way to save if you plan to drink wine at dinner or throughout the day while aboard your cruise.

For those of you who love beer, think about purchasing the souvenir Disney Cruise Beer Mug, which costs just under $16. Then, for the duration of your cruise, guests can take the mug to any of the bars onboard the ship, where they will receive a 21 oz. Draft beer for the price of a 16 oz. beer, saving you money in the long run.

Bring Your Own Alcohol

Yes, you read that right! Guests 21 years or older are allowed to bring alcohol aboard their cruise – but there are restrictions.

Disney Cruise Line Guests are permitted to bring beer and wine on board the ship, with limitations. Each guest over the age of 21 is allowed to bring six beers (12 ounces or less) or two bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml or less) at embarkation. This must be packed inside your carry-on bag and can be brought to your stateroom and enjoyed while in your room or on your verandah, or they can bring a bottle of wine or champagne to their dinner. If you choose to bring your bottle to dinner, there will be a corking fee of $25 per bottle.

Sail During Off Season

If you want to save money on the total price of your cruise, consider sailing during the off-season. If you sail during January-March, you will find the price of cruises much cheaper than during the summer months, say from May to September. Plus, September to December offers holiday cruises, such as Halloween on the High Seas , meaning the price of these cruises also tends to be on the higher end.

Pre-Book Your Next Cruise

Disney Cruise Line offers an Onboard Booking option, which allows guests to make a Placeholder Reservation for a future Disney cruise and enjoy 10% savings on a future cruise (with restrictions). The Placeholder charges $250, but that charge will be used towards the deposit on your next cruise, plus you save 10% on the total price, meaning if you book a $6,500 cruise, you will be able to use the $250 you already purchased, plus you will save $650 off the total price!

April 14, 2024 - Iran's attack on Israel

Our live coverage of Iran's attack on Israel has moved  here .

India calls on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board seized container ship

From CNN's Sandi Sidhu in Hong Kong

India has called on Iran to release 17 Indian crew members on board a container ship seized by Iran on Saturday.

Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that he spoke to his Iranian counterpart Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and "took up the release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries."

Four Filipino seamen were also on board the ship, according to the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers.

The department said it was working with its government, the ship owner, and the operator to release the captured seafarers.

On Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized an Israeli-linked container ship in a helicopter operation near the Strait of Hormuz, state news agency IRNA reported.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) said there were 25 crew members on board.

Japanese prime minister condemns Iran's attack on Israel

From CNN's Junko Ogura in Tokyo

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Sunday said he "strongly condemns" Iran's missile and drone attack on Israel.

"(The attack) further aggravates the current situation in the Middle East. We are deeply concerned and strongly condemn such an escalation," Kishida told reporters.

Kishida said Japan would continue diplomatic efforts to "prevent the situation from worsening and to calm the situation down," and "respond in cooperation with other countries."

Blinken calls British and German counterparts following Iran's attack on Israel

From CNN's Philip Wang

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his counterparts from the United Kingdom and Germany on Sunday following Iran's attack on Israel, according to readouts from the State Department.

All parties agreed "the importance of condemning Iran's attack in the strongest possible terms and preventing further escalation," the readout said.

Blinken earlier held phone calls with his counterparts from Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia , in which he emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the Middle East and of "a coordinated diplomatic response."

US forces destroyed more than 80 attack drones from Iran and Yemen, Central Command says

From CNN's Philip Wang

US forces intercepted more than 80 one-way attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles from Iran and Yemen during its attack on Israel, according to a statement from the Central Command.

The operation included destroying a ballistic missile on its launcher vehicle and seven drones on the ground in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, CENTCOM said.

"Iran's continued unprecedented, malign, and reckless behavior endangers regional stability and the safety of U.S. and coalition forces," the statement added.

Israeli and Iranian ambassadors trade accusations during UN Security Council session

From Abel Alvarado in Atlanta

Israel’s UN ambassador Gilad Erdan shows a video of drones and missiles heading toward Israel during a United Nations Security Council meeting at UN headquarters in New York on Sunday.

Israel and Iran’s United Nations ambassadors condemned each other’s actions during Sunday’s UN Security Council emergency session called to address Iran’s attack on Israel.

Israel’s UN ambassador Gilad Erdan said Iran "must be stopped before it drives the world to a point of no return, to a regional war that can escalate to a world war." Erdan accused Iran of seeking world domination and that its attack proved that Tehran "cares nothing, nothing for Islam or Muslims" before pulling out a tablet to show a video of Israel intercepting Iranian drones above Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Erdan called on the UN Security Council to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terror organization.

“Action must be taken now, not for Israel's sake, not for the region's sake, but for the world's sake. Stop Iran today."

Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said his country’s operation was "entirely in the exercise of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense, as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations and recognized by international law."

Iravani said:

"This concluded action was necessary and proportionate," adding that the operation was “precise and only targeted military objectives” to reduce the potential of escalation and to prevent civilian harm. “Iran is never seeking to contribute to the spillover of the conflict in the region, nor does it to escalate or spread the tension to the entire region," he said.

Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani speaks during the meeting on Sunday.

Tehran’s attack had been anticipated since  a suspected Israeli strike  on an Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria earlier this month.

Iravani added Iran has “no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region” but warned Iran will use its “inherent right to respond proportionately” should the US initiate a military operation against “Iran, its citizens or its security.”

Israeli war cabinet says it's ready to respond to Iran's attack but delays immediate action. Here's the latest

From CNN staff

The hours-long Israeli war cabinet meeting ended Sunday night without a decision on how Israel will respond to Iran’s missile and drone attack , an Israeli official said.

The cabinet is determined to respond — but has yet to decide on the timing and scope and the official said the military has been tasked with coming up with additional options for a response.

Separately, a senior Biden administration official told reporters that an Israeli official told the United States that it's not looking to significantly escalate the showdown with Iran.

CNN analyst Barak Ravid said Israeli ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot advocated for swift action, but US President Joe Biden's phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led to a decision to delay the response until the next day.

Here are the latest headlines:

  • Retaliation is over, Iran told US: Iran privately messaged the United States that its retaliation against Israel had concluded, echoing what Tehran said publicly, according to a senior administration official. Late Saturday, Iran said its attack on Israel is a response to Israel's strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, and "the matter can be deemed concluded." However, President Ebrahim Raisi said any “new aggression against the interests of the Iranian nation will be met with a heavier and regrettable response,” according to Iran’s state news channel IRIB.
  • United Nations response: UN Secretary-General António Guterres  called for a de-escalation of violence after Iran’s attack. Guterres said the United Nations and member countries have a “shared responsibility” to engage “all parties concerned to prevent further escalation.” He also called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict. “Neither the region nor the world can afford more war,” he said.
  • G7 and others: Amid a flurry of diplomatic activity in response to Iran's attack, the G7 nations said they would work together to "stabilize the situation" in the Middle East, according to a statement from Biden. Also, Jordan summoned Iran's ambassador in Amman on Sunday after it intercepted Iranian drones over the country.
  • Meanwhile in Gaza: As thousands of Palestinians were turned away from returning to their homes in northern Gaza on Sunday, a 5-year-old girl was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers, her mother said. Video showed a man carrying a 5-year-old girl named Sally Abu Laila, who was bleeding from her head, with people crowding around her in panic trying to cover her wound.

Also on Sunday:

  • Israel decided to lift its restrictions on large gatherings and to reopen schools on Monday.
  • The US Department of Homeland Security has not identified any “specific or credible threats” to the US since Iran attacked Israel.

Blinken calls Turkish, Egyptian, Jordanian and Saudi counterparts following Iran's attack

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday spoke with his counterparts in Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia following Iran's attacks in Israel, according to readouts from the State Department.

During his phone calls, Blinken emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the region and the importance of "a coordinated diplomatic response."

In his conversation with Jordan and Egypt, Blinken also underlined the significance of achieving an "enduring end to the crisis in Gaza."

Iran will be held responsible if any action is taken against the US or Israel, deputy ambassador warns

From CNN’s Abel Alvarado

US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood speaks during a United Nations Security Council emergency session over Iran’s attack on Israel on Sunday in New York.

The United States warned Iran against taking any action against the US or Israel during the UN Security Council emergency session over Iran’s attack on Israel.

“Let me be clear, if Iran or its proxies take actions against the US or further action against Israel, Iran will be held responsible,” US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said Sunday.

The United States is “not seeking escalation, our actions have been purely defensive in nature,” adding that the “best way to prevent such escalation is an unambiguous condemnation of the council of Iran’s unprecedented large-scale attack,” he said.

The envoy reiterated US support for Israel and condemned Iran’s attack. “Iran’s intent was to cause significant damage and death in Israel,” Wood said.

Wood also said the UN Security Council had an “obligation to not let Iran’s actions go unanswered.”

“For far too long, Iran has flagrantly violated its international legal obligations,” he said before listing occasions Iran has violated UN Security Council resolutions and international law.

Wood accused Iran of being in a “broad sense complicit” of the October 7 attack on Israel by providing “significant funding and training for the military wing of Hamas.”

He added the US will explore "additional measures to hold Iran accountable here in the UN.”

  • Your Cruise Ship's Newest Second Mate May Be AI

An AI-based energy management system for cruise ships from Alfred Maritime is intended to help ship operators and crews understand and analyze its performance while it’s out at sea.

Emily Price

The energy management system on your next cruise might be controlled by artificial intelligence.

Meyer Group’s digital startup Alfred Maritime debuted the first AI-based energy management system for cruise ships this week at Seatrade Cruise Global, a trade show for the cruise industry.

The system helps ship operators and crews understand and analyze a ship’s performance while it’s out at sea and gives the crew actionable insights on how they could optimize the ship’s energy efficiency. Ideally, this will help reduce its fuel consumption and emissions.

Germany-based Alfred Maritime was established in 2019 with the goal of digitizing modern ships using the Internet of Things and AI as well as to “provide data and intelligence for greener next-generation vessels.”

According to Alfred, simulation models coupled with the accumulated real-time data from multiple onboard systems in a modern IoT platform will allow the crew of a ship to make quick decisions on how to optimize the ship’s performance while simultaneously offering full data transparency to the ship’s operator.

The system has an intuitive dashboard, which the group says makes it easy for the crew to understand the ship’s performance with a minimum amount of training and effort.

The news comes at a time when the cruise industry as a whole is looking at ways to be more sustainable. The cruise line MSC, for instance,  recently announced a goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050 , and many other cruise lines have set similar goals.

A June 2023 study from sustainable transport campaigner The European Federation for Transport and Environment found that 63 cruise ships owned by the Carnival Corporation, for instance, emitted 43% more sulfur oxides than all the 291 million cars in Europe in 2022.
