Tekken World Tour 2023 Finals Format

Tekken World Tour 2022 champion Atif Butt

The Tekken World Tour 2023 Finals is divided into two stages, the Group Stage and the Final Bracket.

The Group Stage features 20 players, with 19 securing their spots through the Tekken World Tour leaderboard and the last contender emerging from the Last Chance Qualifier.

Divided into four groups, each consisting of five players, the Group Stage employs a single round-robin format. Matches are decided in a best-of-three format, with the top two players from each group advancing. Group winners proceed to the winners side of the Final Bracket, while the runner-ups find themselves on the losers side.

The Final Bracket is a double-elimination format, ensuring that players have a second chance to redeem themselves. While most matches are best-of-three, the winners final, losers final, and grand final are best-of-five, adding an extra layer of intensity to the climax of the tournament.

The Tekken World Tour 2023 circuit is finally reaching its climax in the form of Tekken World Tour 2023 Global Finals which will be happening in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.

The players qualified for the finals are TM|Arslan Ash, DRX|Knee, KDF|Ulsan, KDF|CBM, THY|Chikurin, RB|Anakin, DH|JeonDDing, FATE|Atif, Falcons|JoKa, Varrel|Rangchu, HG|Danielmado, Dragons|Raef, Kiba|Kkokkoma, LowHigh, GyoGun|Ao, GG|Tibetano, FaZe|Joey Fury, CRaZY|SuperAkouma and Talon|Book, with one final spot going to the winner of the on-site Last Chance Qualifier where any and all sufficiently hungry players will be fighting it out to get that last chance at glory in Tekken 7.

There's a $100,000 prize pool on the line for the championships (with the champion taking the absolute lion's share of $50,000 for themselves) and players have been fighting all year long to make it into the competition so stakes are the highest they've been. For the format, the 20 qualified players will be divided into 4 groups of 5 which will have a Round Robin played after which the top 2 players of each group qualify for a final top 8 bracket.

As for the Last Chance Qualifier, there are almost 330 players who have made the trip to New Orleans to try and be that one person who grasps the last spot in the finals and all of it will be played out on Friday the 12th of January while the finals themselves will be over the weekend.

This is also the final Tekken World Tour for Tekken 7 and will be its swan song as Tekken 8's release is right around the corner. You can probably expect news to be shared for the upcoming Tekken 8 at these finals as well, so if you're excited for the future of Tekken it's definitely worth tuning in.

Streaming is being done at Tekken .

Tekken World Tour Finals 2023: All results, standings, and Tekken 8 announcements

Image of Cale Michael

Tekken 7 gets one last ride before the next iteration of the King of Iron Fist Tournament enters its next era with the release of Tekken 8 on Jan. 26. Whoever wins the Tekken World Tour Finals 2023 will be the final T7 world champion, so the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Running on Jan. 13 and 14, the top 20 Tekken players from the last year of competitions come together for a final clash for $100,000 USD in New Orleans, U.S. This includes multiple former TWT champions returning while other greats like Arslan Ash battle to add another title to their T7 legacies.

For the TWT Finals 2023, players will be split into four groups of five to fight for placements in the final bracket—with only two players from each group moving on. From there, the playoffs will be double-elimination, best-of-twos until we reach the final three rounds, which are best-of-threes.

Tekken World Tour Finals 2023: All results and standings

A look at the finalized bracket for the TWT Finals 2023.

Arslan Ash’s 3-1 victory over CBM in the grand finals makes him the second Pakistani player to win the TWT, following ATIF’s breakout performance at the TWT Finals in 2022. It also likely cements his legacy as the greatest Tekken 7 player ever , adding his first TWT title to dozens of others—including a record four Tekken Evo championships.

Taking the final TWT title was Arslan’s main goal for the last six months, noting back at Evo 2023 that he hadn’t won that event yet and it would be a perfect end to his time with T7 before potentially moving on to play T8 .

All Tekken 8 announcements from Tekken World Tour Finals 2023

While Bandai Namco didn’t promise any Tekken 8 announcements for the Tekken World Tour Finals 2023, several different trailers were shown.

Throughout the weekend, Bandai shared gameplay trailers for Alisa and Zafina , two returning fighters that we already knew were in the game but did not have full trailers yet, along with the full reveal of Tekken 8’s opening movie . During the final day of action, a DLC roadmap for Tekken 8’s Playable Character Year 1 Pass was shared too, revealing that Eddy Gordo will join the roster this Spring and additional fighters will be released in Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

We also got confirmation that the Tekken World Tour will return on April 13 with Tekken 8 as the main title.

Shacknews is here with everything you need to know before all the action begins.

The final day of the Tekken World Finals 2022 will be contested on Sunday, February 5 at 12:15 a.m. PT/3:15 a.m. ET.

How to watch the Tekken World Tour Finals 2022

The Tekken World Finals 2022 can be seen in its entirety on the Tekken Twitch channel or in the embed above.

Tekken 8 announcement?

Ah, here's why some of the casual Tekken players may want to watch this weekend with a vested interest. Tekken 8 was revealed in September and is looking like it's pretty far in development. The most recent trailer came during The Game Awards, which is helpfully embedded above.

A grand occasion like the Tekken World Tour Finals would certainly be an ideal spot to debut either a new Tekken 8 trailer, some new characters, or even a release window. There's no guarantee that anything's being shown and, in fact, Bandai Namco has made no indication that anything should be expected. Still, it doesn't hurt to be on the lookout for anything. We'll be back here at Shacknews if anything gets revealed.

How to watch the Tekken World Tour Finals 2022 VODs

Bandai Namco will update the Bandai Namco Esports YouTube channel with full matches that can be viewed on demand.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Welcome to the #TWT2023 Global Finals Day 2! We're about to start our Group Stage to determine our final #TEKKEN7 Top 8 for Sunday! Opening up the day is @Tasty_Steve ! https://t.co/vrgVGnwhne pic.twitter.com/VfncdJHsiL — Bandai Namco Esports (@BNEesports) January 13, 2024

The TWT Last Chance Qualifiers concluded yesterday, with JoeCrush coming out on top over 59 other top players, defeating AK in the Grand Finals after an incredible Grand Finals Reset to secure the last spot in the Group Stage today.

The 20 top players will battle it out today for one of 8 spots in the Top 8 Final Bracket tomorrow.

  • 1.1 Group A
  • 1.2 Group B
  • 1.3 Group C
  • 1.4 Group D
  • 3.1 Arslan Ash
  • 3.2 Atif Butt
  • 3.4 JEonDDing
  • 4.1 Group A Results: Ulsan and Rangchu advance
  • 4.2 Group B Results: Arslan Ash and Ao advance
  • 4.3 Group C Results: LowHigh and JEongDding advance
  • 4.4 Group D Results: CBM and Knee advance
  • 5 Tekken World Tour Finals 2023 Top 8 Bracket
  • 6 Tekken World Tour Finals 2023 Top 8 Bracket Results
  • 7 Winner: Arslan Ash

Group Stages

Here is Group of of Tekken World Tour Finals 2023.

Fifteen players freely chose which Groups they could join (Until each Group had four filled slots), and the Tekken World Tour Standings Top 4 players could choose which of the four Groups they wanted to join, enjoying the benefit of analyzing the competition. LCQ winner JoeCrush had no choice but to settle into Group C.

South Korea has a lot of representation today in Tekken 7's competitive swan song, with all but one Group having two Korean competitors.

Matches in the Group Stages will be best-of-three and have a single round-robin format. The top two players from each Group move on. The #1 of each Group advances to the Winner's Side, and the runner-up goes to the Loser's Side.

The Final Bracket will start with a best-of-three format and be double-elimination. The Winners Final, Losers Final, and Grand Finals will all be best-of-five, allowing for a fitting finale for competitive Tekken 7. The Grand Champion will earn himself $50,000 and the bragging rights of being the last Tekken 7 champion.

Players to Watch

The fan favorite for winning the final Tekken 7 World Tour is Arslan Ash, who has been dominant this year. Nearly 1000 points ahead of the second-place competitor on the Tekken World Tour Standings, and won many top-tier tournaments, including Combo Breaker 2023, EVO 2023, and EVO Japan 2023.

Arslan Ash is not unbeatable, but he performs best when the lights are brightest. Arslan finished a disappointing 13th-16th at last year's Tekken World Tour Finals. This weekend is his chance to win the final one at the biggest stage for Tekken 7.

Fellow Pakistani Atif Butt is also a heavy favorite for winning it all. No one can forget Atif's victory at last year's Tekken World Tour Finals, going undefeated throughout the tournament. The defending champion took home first place at the  IESF World Championship 2023  last September, and he's definitely one to watch.

#2 in the Tekken World Tour Standings, many consider Ulsan to be Korea's best current player. He's done very well this year in the AfreecaTV TEKKEN League, with multiple first-place finishes, a first-place finish at REV Major 2023, and a third-place finish at EVO 2023. His Bob is very formidable and Ulsan is definitely a strong contender for winning it all.

Tekken World Tour Finals 2022 runner-up and CEO 2023 winner JEonDDing has been relatively quiet since earning enough points to qualify for Tekken World Tour Finals 2023. As one of Korea's strongest competitors, JEonDDing may have been spending his time cooking up something special for the last Tekken 7 World Tour Finals. His relative lack of play on bigger stages in the latter half of 2023 may catch people off guard.

It's impossible to mention players to watch without bringing up the legend Knee.

Considered one of the greatest Tekken players of all time for a reason, Knee's final chance of achieving Tekken 7 greatness is here. He surprisingly bowed out very quickly in EVO 2023, finishing 17th-24th, but you can never count out Knee.

Knee is already warmed up after a second-place finish at DEATH FIST, dropping the Finals to Atif, but we'll see how the legend performs today.

What Is the Tekken World Tour?

The  Tekken World Tour  is the biggest competition of the year, where expert players from all around the globe participate to compete against one another.  Bandai Namco Entertainment , a Japanese multinational video game publisher, organizes the tournament circuit. It started as a points-based, season-long competition in 2017.

The circuit comprises tournaments that award players who secure high ranks at big in-person games. Players who cannot travel participate in online events and seek their rewards. It is similar to all other offline championships, demanding persistence and discipline to become a victor.
