Comedian Jimmy Carr is set to lead a special free event in Belfast next month.
Encycle Studios is launching Encycle Sessions – a series of free, live Q&As with leading thinkers from the world of arts, culture, technology and entertainment, exploring the power of creative thought.
The first Belfast Encycle Session will feature one of the most-respected and best-loved British comedians on stage and television, Jimmy Carr, who recently hired Encycle to design and produce the visuals for his “The Best Of, Ultimate, Gold, Greatest Hits Tour”, coming to Belfast and Derry 11 – 13 November.
Speaking about the event Jimmy Carr said: “I’m delighted to be involved with the first Encycle Session in Belfast – it’s always good to see creative people supporting one another.
"We’ll be having a chat about making a living using your imagination – and if anyone can tell me how that’s done, it’ll be worth me going.”
“The key to fulfilling the huge economic potential of the creative industries in Northern Ireland is ongoing development of our world-class talent,” said Philip Bergkvist, Encycle’s CEO. “We wanted to create a forum for anyone interested in the creative industries to gain an insight into how creativity is harnessed by a broad range of artists. Our hope is that Encycle Sessions will inspire and motivate, as well as create valuable connections between like-minded people,” Philip added.
Encycle Sessions with Jimmy Carr takes place in Ulster University , Conor lecture theatre, Belfast, on November 11th 2016, from 4.30pm – 6.30pm.
The event is free of charge and registration to attend is essential. Tickets are extremely limited and will not be made available on the door.

Jimmy Carr announces new tour – with two shows EVERY night
Also first tour for Edinburgh best newcomer Urooj Ashfaq
He’s already the hardest-working man in comedy – and now Jimmy Carr is packing in twice as many shows into his next stand-up tour.
The star will be playing two shows every night of his forthcoming Laughs Funny tour – which takes in almost 90 theatre across the UK.
And that will be followed by 11 arena dates, with a more conventional one show per night.
Even with his prodigious TV output, Carr rarely takes a break from touring. He’s currently on the road with his Terribly Funny 2.0 show, the first incarnation of which started in 2019, pausing only for the Covid pandemic.
The last UK night of that tour is on February 5 in Northampton, then he heads to the US for six weeks of dates, before returning home to launch his new Laughs Funny show. It runs from May 1, 2024, through to the end of December 2025.
And as if that’s not enough, Chortle understands he’ll be adding more dates later.
Tickets are currently being sold to fans on his mailing list, with a release of Ticketmaster tickets at 10am tomorrow before the tour goes on general sale at 10am on Friday.

Meanwhile, Indian comic Urooj Ashfaq has also announced her debut UK tour for Oh No!, the show which won her the best newcomer award at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
She is currently performing it at Soho Theatre, where she will return for two weeks from January 8, followed by a nine-date tour to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, Coventry, Manchester, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, and Leeds.
The 28-year-old from Mumbai had not performed stand-up in English before bringing this show, about cultural differences, her experiences in therapy and her parents’ divorce, to the UK in the run-up to the Fringe.
Tickets go on sale at 11am on Friday. Urooj Ashfaq tour dates .
Also, Chris McCausland has added new dates to his 2024 Yonks ! tour, and Connor Burns has handed a handful of extra shows to his debut tour Vertigo .

Jimmy Carr says childhood meningitis battle left him ‘close to death’
The comedian was treated in hospital in ireland as a toddler..
Jimmy Carr has said he was “close to death” when he was diagnosed with meningitis as a child.
The comedian, 51, said he was treated in hospital in Ireland when he was still a toddler and was told he “nearly didn’t make it”.
Speaking on the podcast Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake with Kathy Burke, he said: “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind … I think that is the first thing I ever said that my mother thought was funny.
“I had meningitis when I was a child. So my first memory is a lumbar puncture in Limerick in the General (hospital).
Blue Lights: ‘Everyone still asks us why we killed Gerry’ - Behind the scenes of the hit Belfast cop drama as it returns for a second series
‘A bit of chat followed by a few tunes’ - A Night Out With Irvine Welsh in Belfast
“I was three, I think, and … I was always told it was very close to death.
“The doctor sort of went, ‘it’s going to be very painful’. And somehow I’d heard the phrase, and I went, ‘you’ve got to be cruel to be kind’, in a little child’s voice.”
He added: “And I kind of appreciated that thing of life, because I was always told, ‘oh, you nearly didn’t make it’.”
Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, according to the NHS, and is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults.
It can be very serious if not treated quickly, causing life-threatening sepsis and permanent damage to the brain or nerves.
Discussing how he would like to die now he’s older, he said: “I want my kids and the people that love me to (be able to tell a story like), ‘Oh, Jimmy died… funny story. He flew to South Africa and he went on one of those great shark cage experiences and he forgoed the cage. He said, no cage for me, thanks. I’ll just jump in there with a fish’.
“And I was ravaged by sharks. That would be a way to go.”
He added he has already had a close encounter with a reef shark, saying: “I was swimming with a friend in Key West and there were sharks in the water. And one sort of flipped around.
“We’d been swimming with these small sharks all day and we slightly misjudged the size of this thing. It was enormous and it flipped around and came at us.
“And I remember just thinking of the old joke, ‘I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you’. Just to swim faster than my mate Henry onto the fire coral.
“And then we got back on the boat and the guys went, ‘these are just reef sharks’. I went, ‘yeah, with the black tip on the fin’, and they went ‘oh, mate. Whoa!’
“But I think (being) torn apart by sharks and wanting it and going ‘I’ll do that’. That’s a great story for everyone.”
