Spirit Travel More Mastercard review: Decent perks with an enhanced sign-up bonus

Christina Ly

Free Spirit® Travel More World Elite Mastercard® overview

The Free Spirit® Travel More World Elite Mastercard® is the premium card option for earning Spirit points. Cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus points plus a $100 companion flight voucher after making at least $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. In addition, the Spirit Travel More card offers priority boarding, a companion voucher, a waived annual fee for the first year and many significant perks for frequent Spirit flyers. Card rating*: ⭐⭐½

The information for the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

* Card rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.

Spirit Airlines is a budget airline known for affordable fares, and it adopts a no-frills approach to its flights. However, its loyalty program — Free Spirit — underwent a major overhaul in early 2021, including some notable enhancements .

Spirit Airlines officially offers two credit cards: the Free Spirit® Travel Mastercard® and the Free Spirit Travel More World Elite Mastercard , both issued by Bank of America. (There is also a third Spirit credit card that is invite-only .) The Spirit Travel More card is the carrier's more premium option with higher earning rates, a larger sign-up bonus and an annual fee of $79 (which is waived for the first year).

Want more credit card news and advice from TPG? Sign up for our daily newsletter .

Frequent flyers are quick to scoff at Spirit's "one personal item" policy and lack of amenities, but Spirit is all about affordable travel. So if you are a frequent Spirit flyer or live near a Spirit hub, the Travel More card can be a great option for you.

But with limited spots in your wallet, is the Travel More card worth it?

Related: Everything you should know before flying Spirit Airlines

Who should get the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard?

Flying Spirit Airlines is not for everyone, but if you are a frequent traveler on the carrier, a Spirit credit card can be a great addition to your wallet. The Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard offers typical airline credit card perks like priority boarding, inflight discounts, the ability to earn elite status , points pooling and more.

The Travel More card also offers a $100 companion flight voucher as an annual perk at your cardmember anniversary when you spend $5,000 in a year, which is relatively low when compared to other airline cards . In addition, the Spirit Travel More card will travel well, since it features no foreign transaction fees .

Unlike many other cobranded airline cards , the Travel More card does not offer perks such as free checked (or carry-on) bags, nor does it get you free seat reservations. Even when factoring in Spirit's budget travel mentality, the Travel More card can seem lackluster.

In addition, Spirit Airlines also has no transfer partners, so all Spirit points are limited to Spirit flights. These restrictions can make the Travel More card seem extremely limiting.

For travelers wanting a little more freedom with their flights and points or those that rarely fly Spirit Airlines, the card likely won't be a good fit. Most of the Spirit Travel More credit card's perks are tailored for frequent Spirit flyers. So if Spirit is your airline of choice, the Travel More card certainly offers attractive perks and benefits.

Sign-up offer worth up to $760

travel world elite mastercard

The Spirit Travel More Mastercard currently offers new cardmembers an elevated sign-up offer of 60,000 bonus points (previously 40,000 bonus points) plus a $100 companion flight voucher after making at least $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. TPG's valuations peg the worth of Spirit points at 1.1 cents each, making this welcome bonus worth roughly $660. And if we take the companion voucher at face value, the total sign-up offer is worth up to $760.

Card benefits and perks

Unlike most airline cards , the Travel More card does not offer a free checked (or carry-on) bag, but it does include benefits like:

  • $100 companion flight voucher : When you make $5,000 in purchases within the prior anniversary year, you'll receive a $100 companion flight voucher upon renewal of your card. This voucher can be used as a discount on companion airfare (excluding taxes and fees).
  • Points pooling : As the primary cardholder, Spirit lets you combine Free Spirit points with up to eight friends and family members.
  • Spending toward Free Spirit elite status : Spirit awards 1 Status Qualifying Point per dollar spent on fares or many ancillary purchases, but Travel More cardholders can earn 1 SQP for every $10 spent on everyday purchases. Silver status can be earned at 2,000 SQPs, and Gold status is earned at 5,000 SQPs. This means that you could reach Silver by spending $20,000 on the card or Gold by spending $50,000 on the card.
  • No redemption fees : Spirit typically charges a redemption fee of $50 for award flights booked less than 28 days prior to departure, but this fee is waived for the primary cardholder.
  • 25% rebate on inflight purchases .
  • Zone 2 boarding : On all flights, you'll board in Zone 2 — only behind passengers who have purchased a carry-on.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • Waived annual fee for the first year: The card's $79 annual fee is waived for the first year.

How to earn Spirit points

With the Travel More card, you can earn Free Spirit points on purchases as follows:

  • 3 points per dollar spent on Spirit flights and inflight purchases.
  • 2 points per dollar spent on eligible dining and grocery store purchases.
  • 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases .

Based on TPG's valuations , this means that you can get an effective return of 3.3% on eligible Spirit flights and inflight purchases, 2.2% on dining and grocery store purchases, and 1.1% on all other purchases.

Free Spirit points also do not expire as long as your card account is active.

How to redeem Spirit points

travel world elite mastercard

The best way to redeem Free Spirit points is to book award flights on Spirit Airlines. Spirit has no airline partners, so your points can only be redeemed on Spirit flights. Since Spirit uses a dynamic award pricing system, redemption rates can vary but typically start at 2,500 Free Spirit points. Taxes and fees for award flights start at $5.60 one-way.

Related: How to fly without bag fees on Spirit Airlines using the free personal item

Since Spirit Airlines has limited routes and frequencies, flyers from the carrier's major airports — including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando International Airport (MCO), Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) — are more likely to find nonstop flights. However, the point-to-point network means that there may be routings that work for you.

travel world elite mastercard

In one example, a flight from Los Angeles to Los Cabos, Mexico, can be bought for 5,000 Free Spirit points and $164.44 in fees ($50 of which is the redemption fee since this flight is less than 28 days away).

travel world elite mastercard

However, if you had the Travel More card, this same trip to Los Cabos would only be 5,000 Free Spirit points and $114.44 in fees, since the redemption fee is waived for cardmembers.

It is also important to note that Spirit's points can be less valuable when you fly from smaller airports or on less common routes — especially those with a connection.

Which cards compete with the Free Spirit Travel More Mastercard?

While the Spirit Travel More card offers tons of savings for Spirit flyers, not everyone may want to fly Spirit, with its limited amenities and routes. So if you are not a Spirit Airlines loyalist, there are travel credit cards that may be a better fit for your wallet than the Free Spirit Travel More World Elite Mastercard.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is currently offering an sign-up bonus of 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. According to TPG's valuations, this sign-up bonus is worth $1,200.

The Sapphire Preferred comes out ahead of the Free Spirit Travel More card in another key aspect: flexibility. Chase has 14 airline and hotel transfer partners , which means cardmembers have more than their fair share of redemption options. This stands in sharp contrast to the Travel More card, which awards Free Spirit points that can only be redeemed with Spirit Airlines.

In addition, the Chase Sapphire Preferred features better earning rates across many popular categories, and while there are no airline-related perks, it does feature annual benefits such as a $50 hotel credit for bookings made through the Chase travel portal and a 10% anniversary points bonus (based on the total purchases you made last year).

These additional perks do come at a higher annual fee of $95, but Chase's elevated earning rate, list of transfer partners and added protections may well be worth it .

Official Application Link: Chase Sapphire Preferred

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is a great mid-tier travel card and is offering a solid sign-up bonus of 75,000 miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases within three months from account opening. This bonus is worth $1,387, based on TPG's valuations , $727 more than the Travel More card. Capital One miles can be transferred to over 15 transfer partners or used directly for any travel purchase — which means there is great flexibility when it comes to redemption options.

The Capital One Venture features an earning rate of 5 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 2 miles per dollar spent on everyday purchases. Based on TPG's valuation of Capital One miles, this is a return of 9.25% on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and a 3.7% return on everything else. These rates are superior to those offered on the Spirit card.

The Capital One Venture card does charge an annual fee of $95, which is higher than the Travel More's annual fee of $79. The Venture does, however, offer $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck and two free visits to Capital One lounges a year.

Bottom line

The Free Spirit Travel More World Elite Mastercard is Spirit's higher-end credit card, and while it may be a great option for frequent Spirit flyers, it is not a good fit for all. Free Spirit points are not transferable, and despite being a cobranded airline card, the Travel More card does not offer flyers a free checked (or carry-on) bag for cardholders.

In addition, the annual $100 companion voucher, while easily obtainable with $5,000 in annual spending, is not eligible to be used in conjunction with an award flight, which means it will have to be used on a Spirit flight that you (and a friend or family member) are willing to pay cash for. Priority boarding, inflight rebates and an earning boost for elite status are fair perks, but if you are not a Spirit loyalist, they hold minimal value.

Great Card If

  • Traveling is your main goal and you’re going to do it often (including internationally)
  • You like simple rewards and earning options and don’t want to manage a bunch of cards
  • You love to shop around for deals and have no specific airline, hotel or other travel company loyalty
  • You want to take advantage of the vast array of Luxury Travel Benefits available to card holders

Don’t Get If

  • You’re not much of a traveler
  • You intend to redeem for many smaller purchases rather than a few bigger ones ($100 minimum redemption option)
  • You want to use this card for business (Barclays restricts earning for business expenses)

Welcome Bonus and Earning Rate

Beginning with a welcome bonus after your standard purchase amount within the required months (see above), you’ll be well on your way with travel credit ready to be redeemed.

The rewards rate on this card is a solid 2 points per $1 spent, with no limits and no restricted categories.

Other cards cap out the rewards at a certain dollar amount per category, or restrict the categories in which you can earn the higher rewards rate. But here, you get a nice 2x deal everywhere!

Bottom Line:   The Arrival Plus card earns 2x points for all purchases and costs $89 per year.

Card Benefits and Value

This is a travel rewards card , meaning you’ll earn the points as account credit you can apply towards travel related purchases.

Once you have enough, simply go into your account and apply the credit to your statement.

This card also gives you a 5% rebate for all redeemed points, making the value of the rewards rate equal out to 2.1 points per dollar.

Unlike some other cards, it allows you to earn miles while making your travel purchase and then apply those earned miles right back to your statement, while additionally earning a 5% rebate.

Value Compared to Other Cards

Contrast this to an airline or hotel card which deposits earned miles into the appropriate loyalty program account: when redeeming, you are taking points out but none are going back in.

Here, your redemptions are worth $0.01 per mile when redeeming for travel. This is a very standard evaluation that isn’t the worst you will find, but it also isn’t the best.

Great for Flexible Travelers

A world traveler likes flexibility, and you’ll get that with this card.

First, it has no foreign transaction fees and includes chip technology. So no matter where you are, your card will likely be accepted and continue to bring home points.

If you’re in Hong Kong and you want to travel to Thailand on a budget, you can look around for the best deals and book them all through your Arrival Plus card.

Then, redeem the miles back as statement credit, collect your rebate points, and keep going.

You won’t have to deal directly with specific airlines or hotels, but if you’re going to book through a third party it may be worth a call to confirm this will count as reimbursable.

Travel Reimbursement for Hotels, Airlines, and More … With a Caveat

Your redemption options don’t stop at airfare or hotels, either. There is a long list of items you can use your rewards for, including timeshares, cruises, discount travel sites, and most public transportation options.

Be warned though: you have to redeem for a minimum of $100 and can only apply against a purchase once , so we recommend applying your credit toward larger purchases. As always, planning is the key.

If you just aren’t traveling or using the card anymore, you do have the option to redeem for other statement credit or gift cards, but doing so cuts the value of the points in half (5000 points for $25), so we don’t recommend doing this.

Other Card Benefits

If you need a balance transfer, you can transfer to this card and enjoy 12 months of interest-free balance after the fee.

You won’t earn any points for this, so it’s not highly recommended unless you know you’ll be able to pay it off after the 12 months. Other low-interest credit cards also offer 0% APR on purchases, but no such luck with the Arrival Plus card.

Next, let’s talk about the Luxury Travel Benefits. These are actually MasterCard benefits made available to certain cardmembers.

They offer basic benefits , “World” benefits , and finally this card’s “World Elite” benefits . It basically includes all the other travel benefits in addition to some extras.

These include:

  • Free business class upgrades on participating airlines with purchase of a full-price economy ticket
  • Hotel room upgrades with SPG and other hotel partners
  • Airline discounts up to 30%
  • A complimentary companion ticket with a full-fare business class purchase
  • Cruise discounts up to $500
  • And many more!

Still Collect Your Loyalty Points From Your Travel Partners

It’s worth explicitly noting that you can still be a member of all the different loyalty programs and try to focus your travel on specific partners to further maximize your travel benefits.

You’ll continually be paying for everything with this card and earning card miles, but points earned through the loyalty programs still accrue into those accounts to be used later as well.

This can be an even more powerful strategy if you want to move past the beginner stage!

Best Ways To Earn Arrival Plus Rewards

Earning miles is fairly straightforward with this rewards card: buy everything on the card. Anything you could possibly pay for, try to purchase with your card as long as there are no additional fees!

You’ll get 2x points for everything plus the 5% redemption bonus back, equating to 2.1x.

Below are examples of things you could put on your card:

  • Utilities and bills
  • Restaurants, drinks, and entertainment
  • Doctors visits
  • Supplements
  • Business expenses (if you don’t have a higher-earning card)
  • Memberships (gym, etc.)

When earning points, plan ahead to make sure you get to a minimum 10,000 points: this is the absolute minimum value ($100) you can redeem at once. You can always redeem anything above this amount, however.

Another way you could rack up more points is to get additional cards if you have a child or spouse who spends separately. You essentially just expand your ability to earn points but get no additional benefits.

* Note : Depending on your living situation, you may be able to pay rent on a credit card without incurring extra fees. If this is the case, absolutely use your credit card to pay for your rent! If you do have a fee, then it may or may not be worth it. Typical fees range from 2% to 3%. Let’s look at the math:

Say you pay $1,200 per month in rent. If you take a 3% fee for using a credit card, but get to accrue all those points, then you would pay $1,236 for rent and get 2.1x points for it. This is assuming the fee isn’t somehow charged separately and just rolls into your rent (fees don’t earn points, and there are many other restrictions as well). That’s worth 31,147 points (at 2.1x) total! For that amount, you can redeem a $311 travel credit.

But wait! How much did you pay in fees? Well, at this rate, $36 for 12 months is equal to $432. So you’re actually losing value by using your credit card.

At a lower fee, you could potentially break even, and it turns out that sweet spot is 2.14% for this rent amount. But will you make enough for it to be worth the hassle? With $2,000 rent and 2% fee, you would come out ahead $34. Any higher of a fee, and it’s not worth it, but if you increase rent you will make a bit more. Anyone who is able to get less than a 2% fee will likely see benefit, but make sure to do your own math for your situation.

Final Note : This only applies if the fee gets charged as rent and whole thing gets counted as a retail purchase. We have not tested this, and the scenario is all in theory!

Best Way To Redeem Arrival Plus Rewards

To redeem points earned with this card, simply go into your account, navigate to Manage Rewards, and choose to redeem points for travel purchases.

We suggest planning to do this immediately after you make your travel purchase, but it must be within 120 days (so plan accordingly!).

Also, since you can only redeem for a minimum of $100, you’ll likely get one or two good redemptions per year out of your points earned.

We’d suggest saving up to pay for one larger purchase all at once, just so you don’t have to worry about the minimum spend every time.

Know that you’ll only get your 5% points back when you redeem, so you’ll have to keep on earning and redeeming to make this card worth it.

You can use your card to redeem for gift cards and other merchandise through the Barclays portal, but doing so cuts the value of your points in half ($0.005), so we don’t recommend it!

Best Way To Maximize Arrival Plus Rewards

There are no direct partnerships with this card like you would see with other cards. However, the beauty of this arrangement is the flexibility of choosing whatever travel partner you want.

Again, you can  still be a member of any loyalty program you want . This card doesn’t add to those loyalty accounts, but that shouldn’t stop you from accruing any extra rewards there as well – it’s all free!

Instead, this card offers users the Luxury Travel network from MasterCard, which includes a multitude of partners.

The only trouble is finding out who the partners really are, so you’ll likely just have to call their customer service and talk about the benefits with them.

Authorized Categories for Redeeming Miles

With regards to travel, only certain categories count as travel for the redemptions. Here is the list of approved travel categories to make redemptions against ($100 min):

Airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries

Your annual fee also counts as redeemable, but we do NOT recommend doing this.

Because this amount is less than $100 and the minimum mile redemption is 10,000, you would have to spend that many points and waste the value of some of your points!

Alternatives to the Arrival Plus Card

The Discover it Miles Card  is very similar. It also earns travel rewards that are accrued on the card just like cash-back.

But which one is better? For your first year, the Discover it Miles card is better since it earns the equivalent of 3x points which can be applied to your travel purchases.

After this first year, though, the Arrival Plus card is much more valuable, because it earns at an equivalent rate of 2.1x at all times.

That earning rate is better than other cash-back cards like the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card or the Citi Double Cash Card . The Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card only earns 1.5% cash-back, while the Citi Double Cash Card earns 2% (1% at purchase with another 1% when you pay your bill).

However, this Barclays card comes with an $89 annual fee (waived the first year), so there is a minimum amount you would have to spend in order to make up for this difference in cost.

Bottom Line:   The Arrival Plus card has the best earning rate of similar travel rewards and cash-back cards, but it has an $89 annual fee (waived the first year). This value must be accounted for when determining its worth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the card worth it.

This will depend on your situation, but it is a solid card for the type of person who wants a card that’s easy to use and has good rewards.

You’ll earn 2x points for all purchases, meaning you don’t have to worry about what category you’re spending in.

The card is free the first year, then costs $89/yr. So if you are spending enough to make up for this, then the card could be considered “worth it.”

One of the great benefits of this card is that for every redemption you make, you’ll get 5% of the miles spent back. This essentially means the card earns 2.1x points as long as you keep redeeming.

Additionally, you can make your travel purchases with the card to earn more points and then use those earned points to pay it off.

Other benefits include a free FICO score, access to the World Elite Concierge and Luxury Travel, as well as an array of travel and other insurances.

If these things are valuable to you, then the card is most definitely worth it.

What is the Arrival Plus card travel insurance?

Barclays travel insurance covers a few different items. First, you get rental car collision insurance. Decline the agency policy and you will be covered for the value of the car if you use your card to make the purchase.

Next, you have Travel Assistance Services. This is a concierge-type service that helps you out during travel issues. While the main service is free, any third party service must be paid for.

Finally, you also get travel accident insurance. If paying on the card, you’ll get up to $250,000 in case of accidents, baggage delays, and trip cancellation.

If your baggage is delayed, you can get $100 per day for up to three days while waiting for it, but this only covers essential items. Trip cancellation covers up to $1,500 of cancelled or interrupted trips.

What is the Arrival Plus card login?

The sign in can be found here at the typical Barclays banking login page.

What are the Arrival Plus card benefits?

First, you earn points at 2x per dollar spent on all categories. Combined with the 5% rebate earned when you redeem those points, you essentially earn 2.1x per dollar.

You have to redeem a minimum of $100 at a time, and this can only be applied against a purchase  one time .

Next, you get a complimentary FICO score, World Elite Concierge, Luxury Travel benefits, price protection, purchase security, return protection, and extended warranty protection.

Finally, you get car rental and travel insurance including travel accidents, baggage delays, and trip cancellation.

What is the difference in the Barclays Arrival World Elite MasterCard (expired) vs. Arrival Plus card?

Mainly, the difference is that the Arrival Plus card has a yearly fee and earns 2x points everywhere.

The Barclays Arrival World Elite MasterCard (expired) has no annual fee and only earns 2x points on travel and dining purchases, with 1x everywhere else.

You’ll also get World Elite benefits such as the concierge and Luxury Travel program with the Barclays.

Note that the Barclays Arrival World Elite MasterCard (expired) is no longer available for new applications.

Does the Arrival Plus card have rental car insurance?

Yes, the car rental insurance covers the value of the car when using the card to book the reservation.

What is the difference in the Arrival Plus card vs Chase Sapphire Preferred Card?

Both cards earn 2x points in travel and dining, but the Arrival Plus card also earns 2x points everywhere else.

Both cards have an ongoing annual fee after the first year, but the Barclays fee is $6 cheaper than the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

You’ll see a bigger difference in how the rewards are earned.

Arrival Plus rewards are like cash-back that accumulates in your Barclays account and can only be used to give you statement credit toward travel purchases (in $100 minimum redemptions).

When you redeem, you get 5% of those dollars back.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card earns points that go into Chase Ultimate Rewards and can be used on a variety of things, from travel to shopping to transferring into partnered loyalty accounts.

In most cases, Chase points are redeemable for a higher value than Barclays miles.

What is the Arrival Plus card interest rate? Is there a 0% APR?

The card typically offers an introductory APR. However, its normal purchase APR is higher once the period ends (see card summary table above).

Does the Arrival Plus card have foreign transaction fees?

There are no foreign transaction fees on the card, allowing you to use it overseas without incurring any extra costs.

About Brian Graham

Brian’s first ever airplane ride was in a private turbo-prop jet. He was merely an intern boy trying to make a good impression, but it turns out the plane made an impression on him.

It wasn’t until Brian relocated to Dallas, TX, and moved in with an American Airlines employee that he truly discovered how incredible travel could be.

National Bank® World Elite® Mastercard®

travel world elite mastercard

Welcome bonus

Annual fee:, earning rate:, perks & benefits:.

The National Bank ® World Elite ® Mastercard ® is an excellent card for travel insurance, where it’s in a class of its own. With annual credits to offset the annual fee, it’s a great premium keeper card for paying the taxes and fees on award ticket bookings.

This card will especially be of interest to those that are older or anyone who enjoys longer trips, due to its generous emergency medical coverage.

Bonuses & Fees

Currently, the National Bank World Elite Mastercard does not offer a welcome bonus.

The card has an  annual fee of $150, and there’s a $50 fee for each authorized user added to your account.

Earning Rewards

The National Bank ® World Elite ® Mastercard ® has a rewards structure that varies based on the amount of money you’ve spent on the card:

  • Earn 5  points per dollar spent on groceries and restaurant purchases
  • Earn 2 points per dollar spent on gas, electric vehicle charging, recurring bills, and travel booked through À la carte Travel
  • Earn 1 points per dollar spent on all other purchases

If your total gross monthly amount of purchases (regardless of category) is under $2,500, the 5x multiplier on groceries and restaurant purchases will apply. However, if your purchases in one month exceed $2,500, the earning rate on those food purchases will fall to 2 points per dollar.

Redeeming Rewards

National Bank’s rewards points can be redeemed through their online travel booking portal . Through this method, points have a fixed value of 1 cent per point .

In the portal, you can book travel, or you can redeem points for a statement credit against travel expenses booked directly with vendors.

Note that offsetting the cost of travel not booked through rewards points reduces the value of the points. If you redeem fewer than 55,000 points, you’ll get 0.83 cents per point, and if you redeem more than 55,000 points, you’ll get 0.91 cents per point.

While having to book through a portal isn’t the most flexible redemption option for maximizing value, it is a far better value than the 0.83cpp that National Bank provides on using rewards points for straight cash back.

Your National Bank rewards points never expire as long as you remain a cardholder.

Perks & Benefits

The card provides a $150 annual travel credit , which can be applied to a range of travel expenses:

  • Airport parking
  • Baggage fees
  • Seat selection
  • Airport lounge access
  • Airline ticket upgrades

These credits renew every year on January 1, but unused credits do not carry over.

Cardholders also have unlimited access to the National Bank Lounge at Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport  for themselves plus one additional guest per visit. The lounge is available for passengers departing from the international terminal.

Insurance Coverage

The National Bank ® World Elite ® Mastercard ® provides outstanding insurance coverage.

In particular, the card can be used for insurance on award tickets.  Coverage is valid for trip cancellation, trip interruption, or flight delays, as long as the ticket was paid at least in part on the card.

The card also offers fantastic emergency medical insurance when travelling. Cardholders are covered for up to $5,000,000 in damages, for trips up to 60 days, up to age 75.

  • Age 54 and under: trips up to 60 days
  • Age 55 to 64: trips up to 31 days
  • Age 65 to 75: trips up to 15 days

Likewise, the card’s car rental insurance grants coverage for longer rentals of up to 48 days, which is longer than the industry standard.

Additionally, the card has industry-leading purchase protection.  The extended warranty and purchase protection periods are double what many competitors offer, with up to two additional years for extended warranty and up to 180 days of protection against stolen or damaged merchandise.

As of September 1, 2022, mobile device insurance is now a benefit of the card, as long the purchase and your monthly payments are charged to the card. You’ll get coverage up to $1,000 in the event of breakage, loss, or theft for up to two years after the purchase date.

Details of eligible rewards points

Certain restrictions apply. For more information, consult the Rewards plan section or the Plan rules regarding how to earn points.

The amount of points earned on grocery and restaurant purchases depends on the total gross monthly amount charged to the credit card account, regardless of the purchase category. You will earn 5 points for every dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases until a total of $2,500 in gross monthly purchases is charged to the account. After that, you will earn 2 points per dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases. The total gross monthly amount is calculated based on your monthly billing period. Grocery purchases include any purchase made at a store that primarily sells food, i.e., grocery store, delicatessen, supermarket, greengrocer or specialty food store. Ready-to-eat meal services and meal delivery services are eligible. This definition excludes purchases made at retail stores and big box stores whose core business is the sale of non-food items. Certain merchants may sell products and services that appear identical or similar to those sold by eligible merchants, or may be separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified in different categories by Mastercard. For purchases at other merchants, you will only earn regular rewards points. Restaurant purchases include purchases at a restaurant, fast food restaurant, bar, nightclub or pub. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan ® .

To earn 2 points per dollar in purchases, you will need to purchase gas or an electrical vehicle charge from a service station or from certain big-box stores. Certain merchants may sell products and services that appear identical or similar to those sold by eligible merchants, or may be separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified in different categories by Mastercard. For purchases at other merchants, you will only earn regular rewards points. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan ® .

Recurring bill payments are defined as monthly or regular payments automatically charged by a merchant to your National Bank World Elite Mastercard credit card. Not all merchants offer recurring bill payments, and not all recurring payments are considered recurring bill payments. Certain payments therefore may not entitle you to earn more points.

To earn 2 points per dollar in purchases, you must make your eligible purchases via the À la carte Travel TM Agency section of our À la carte Rewards TM site.

For example, if each month you charge $400 in groceries, $200 in gas, $100 in recurring bill payments and $150 in other purchases to your card, your $850 in purchases will earn you 2,750 points, as follows: 2,000 points for grocery purchases (since the total gross monthly amount is $850, i.e., under $2,500), 400 points for gas purchases, 200 points for recurring bill payments and 150 points for other purchases.

Only the primary cardholder (“Cardholder”) of National Bank World Elite Mastercard whose account is in good standing can request a refund of travel expenses. An account in good standing refers to an account linked to a credit card which complies with the Agreement governing the use of the credit card and which is not subject to any restrictions. •   airline ticket upgrades

The claim must be submitted within 60 days of the purchase date and accompanied by proof of purchase. The travel fees must be charged to the National Bank World Elite Mastercard credit card. The maximum reimbursement amount is $150 per account. The refund will be issued within 7 business days following the request approval date and after receiving all required information. An amount not claimed in a year cannot be carried over to the following year. For more information or to obtain the refund form, sign in to rewards.nbc.ca , click the Refund of travel expenses tab and complete the form, you can also contact us at 1-888-296-8881 (toll-free) .

This coverage applies to the primary cardholder, their spouse and/or dependent children when they (spouse and/or dependent children) travel with the primary cardholder. PC World Elite Mastercard Review 2024

Published: Mar 8, 2024, 5:07pm

The PC World Elite Mastercard is a surprisingly beneficial card in that it earns plenty of PC Optimum points yet has no annual fee. Cardholders will earn accelerated PC Optimum points on their spending at Loblaw-owned grocery stores, Shoppers Drug Mart, Esso and Mobil. This card has a limited number of benefits aside from its earning potential, but it does offer two notably useful ones: travel emergency medical insurance and car rental collision/loss damage waiver insurance.

All things considered, this card offers a pretty good payoff given that it has no annual fee. However, if you find yourself frequently shopping outside the President’s Choice ecosystem, there are other credit cards that can earn significantly more rewards on your spending.

  • No annual fee
  • Earns 45 PC Optimum points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart
  • Earns 30 PC Optimum points per dollar at Loblaw-banner grocery stores and Esso and Mobil gas stations
  • Includes travel and car rental insurance
  • PC Optimum points lack redemption flexibility outside of Loblaw-owned stores and Esso or Mobil gas stations.
  • Spending at stores outside the selected brands is not heavily rewarded

Table of Contents

Introduction, quick facts, pc world elite mastercard rewards, pc world elite mastercard benefits, how the pc world elite mastercard stacks up, methodology, is the pc world elite mastercard right for you.

  • Earns 30 PC Optimum points per dollar spent at Loblaw-banner stores
  • Earns 30 PC Optimum points (minimum) per litre at Esso and Mobil gas stations
  • Earns 10 PC Optimum points per dollar on everything else
  • Your rewards could add up to $278.52 a year in rewards value (or $429.24 with Loblaw purchases), according to Forbes Advisors calculations based on average spending among Canadians
  • Includes travel emergency medical insurance for trips up to 10 days from date of departure, for people under age 65
  • Includes car rental collision/loss damage waiver insurance for up to 31 consecutive days

The PC Financial World Elite Mastercard has no annual fee and plenty to offer—especially if you frequently fill up your grocery cart at Loblaw-banner stores, gas up at Esso or buy toiletries at Shoppers Drug Mart.

This credit card is surefire way to boost your PC Optimum points collection, consider it earns 30 PC Optimum points per dollar at Loblaw-owned grocery stores, like No Frills and Real Canadian Superstore, 45 points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart, 30 points per dollar at Esso and Mobil and 10 points per dollar everywhere else.

This card has a few useful perks too. It offers emergency medical insurance, car rental collision/loss waiver insurance and 24/7 concierge service.

That said, while it offers good rewards potential, the focus on Loblaw-centric rewards may feel limiting for some, especially those who prefer a card that allows them to shop around at different chains for the best deal.

  • Built-in travel emergency medical insurance and car rental collision/loss damage waiver insurance

Earning Rewards

This card earns points on all spending, but most heavily rewards spending at stores owned by Loblaw or at Esso and Mobil gas stations. Cardholders will earn 30 PC Optimum points per dollar spent at Loblaw-banner stores, 45 PC Optimum points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart and 30 PC Optimum points (minimum) per litre at Esso and Mobil gas stations. All other spending earns 10 PC Optimum points per dollar.

Redeeming Rewards

Once you hit 10,000 points, you can redeem them for up to $10 worth of free items at participating stores or online at Beautyboutique.ca, JoeFresh.ca, and PC Express websites. You can save your points to get up to a maximum of $500 off on any single purchase.

Essentially, you can only redeem your PC Optimum points for purchases at participating stores, meaning the same ones you earn them at. While this may work for some, it’s a big drawback compared to other points programs, like Scene+ and Aeroplan, that allow you to redeem points for everything from travel, merchandise and statement credits.

Rewards Potential

This card earns a decent amount of points, especially for a credit card with no annual fee. Based on average Canadian spending, Forbes Advisor estimates that cardholders could earn up to $278.52 a year worth of Optimum points with this card—or $429.24 with exclusively Loblaw purchases.

  • Earns 30 PC Optimum points per dollar at Loblaw-banner grocery stores
  • Earns 30 PC Optimum points per dollar at Esso and Mobil gas stations
  • Travel and car rental insurance

Interest Rates

  • Regular APR Min: 21.99%
  • Cash Advance APR: 21.97%
  • Balance Transfer APR: 22.97%
  • Cash Advance Fee: $5
  • Balance Transfer Fee: 1% (up to 5%)
  • Foreign Transaction Fee: 2.5%
  • Annual Fee: $0
  • Cash advance outside Canada: $5
  • Overlimit charge: $29
  • Wire transfer or money order: 1% (minimum $5, maximum $10)
  • Dishonoured payment or convenience cheque: $42
  • Inactive account: $10 or the credit balance amount if there has been no activity on your account (meaning no debits, credits, interest or fees) for the preceding 12 consecutive months.

PC World Elite Mastercard vs. PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard

These two cards from the PC credit card lineup are quite similar. The PC Insider World Elite earns slightly more: 40 points per dollar at Loblaw banner stores, 50 points per dollar at Shoppers Drug Mart, $0.07 points per litre at Esso and Mobil, and 10 points per dollar everywhere else. Both cards offer emergency medical travel coverage and rental car collision/loss damage waiver coverage. However, the PC Insiders card also includes purchase assurance and extended warranty coverage.

While the PC Insiders card earns slightly more points at Loblaw stores and at Shoppers, the PC World Elite card stands out with its major advantage of no annual fee. However, with $429.24 in earnings from Loblaw purchases, the PC World Elite still earns less than the $586.19 in annual earnings from the PC Insiders World Elite once you factor in the annual fee.

PC World Elite Mastercard vs. BMO CashBack World Elite Mastercard

The BMO World Elite Mastercard definitely wins in the flexibility department, in that it earns cash back. Aside from that, it has a $120 annual fee and cash-back earnings at a rate of 5% on groceries, 4% on transit, 3% on gas and 1% on all other spending. It also comes with more perks, like travel insurance and the rare perk of complimentary roadside assistance .

However, when it comes down to it, it earns only slightly more per year than the $429.24 earned by the PC World Elite, earning $490.07 in net cash back per year with the annual fee factored in. But keep in mind, the BMO card rewards you heavily on groceries, regardless of where you shop. Plus, the BMO CashBack World Elite does have more to offer in terms of rewards, perks and flexibility—if you can handle the annual fee.

PC World Elite Mastercard vs. SimplyCash Card from American Express

These two cards both boast no annual fee and big earnings on grocery spending. The Amex SimplyCash earns 2% on groceries and gas and 1.25% on all other spending.

In terms of perks and benefits, both of these cards are rather minimal. The SimplyCash only offers travel accident insurance, buyer’s assurance and purchase protection. Meanwhile, the PC Financial World Elite only offers travel emergency medical insurance and car rental collision/loss damage waiver insurance.

Overall, the SimplyCash wins in terms of flexibility and earnings, bringing in an estimated $489.37 per year, outweighing the $429.24 earned by the PC World Elite Mastercard and earning it regardless of which brand of grocery store you shop at.

When determining a rating for individual credit cards, the Forbes Advisor Canada editorial team factors in an exhaustive list of data points. With this card, the scoring model used takes into account factors such as, but not limited to, rewards rates and categories, fees, welcome bonuses, and other benefits and features. Keep in mind what may be best for some people might not be right for you. Conduct informed research before deciding which cards will best help you achieve your financial goals.

If you want a card that will reward spending at Loblaw-banner stores, Shoppers Drug Mart and at Esso or Mobil, this card is for you. Plus it has a couple of useful insurance coverages. However, if you value more flexibility in terms of points redemption or the ability to shop around at different stores, there are other credit cards on the market that can better reward your spending.

It's currently offering a welcome bonus of 75,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after making $3,500 in purchases within the first four months of account opening. That's worth around 105000 in flights, based on our valuation of American Airlines miles .

It also earns 2x miles on eligible American Airlines purchases and on restaurant and gas station spending (and 1 mile per dollar on everything else). We also like that the annual fee is $99, waived for first 12 months. If you spend $20,000 on the card in an account year and then renew your card, you'll get a $125 American Airlines flight discount.

Other American Airlines credit cards to consider are the no-annual-fee American Airlines AAdvantage® MileUp® card and the premium Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®. However, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® is your all-around best bet for a moderate annual fee.

Qualifying for elite status with American Airlines AAdvantage is now based on earning Loyalty Points. Along with earning Loyalty Points from flying and partner spending, you can earn 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent on co-branded American Airlines cards, including the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®.

Best Card for Delta Flyers: Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

Out of Delta's lineup of credit cards, the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card offers the best balance between a moderate $0 intro for the first year, then $150 annual fee and elite-like perks that can save you cash and improve your travel experience.

This Delta credit card is offering a welcome bonus of 70,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new card in your first six months from account opening. Business Insider pegs Delta miles value at 1.1 cents apiece, on average, making this bonus worth about 77000 in flights.

The card earns 2x miles on eligible Delta purchases, 2x miles at U.S. supermarkets and at restaurants worldwide, and 1 mile per dollar on all other eligible purchases. This makes the card a valuable option for everyday spending, not just for earning bonus miles on your Delta purchases.

Other Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card benefits that make it a standout pick for Delta loyalists are a first checked bag for free and priority boarding on Delta flights, a $200 flight credit when you spend $10,000 or more in a calendar year, 15% off Delta award flights, and 20% off inflight purchases as a statement credit.

Best Card for United Flyers: United℠ Explorer Card

The United℠ Explorer Card offers the perks you'd expect from an airline credit card — a free checked bag (you need to pay for the United flight with your Explorer card to get this perk), priority boarding, discounts on inflight purchases, and bonus miles for purchases with the airline — but also some very valuable extras.

If you have this card (or any other United credit card ), you get expanded access to United's lowest-priced "saver" awards, which could help you save miles on an upcoming flight booking. The United℠ Explorer Card also offers two one-time United Club passes each year, and an application fee credit of up to $100 for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS.

New cardholders can earn 60,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open. United miles are worth  1.3 cents each, on average, so you can expect to get around 78000 in flights with this bonus.

Chase issues a whopping six United credit cards ranging from the no-annual-fee United Gateway℠ Card to the luxe United Club℠ Infinite Card , which comes with United Club airport lounge access .

Best Card for Southwest Flyers: Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card

The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card is another example where a higher annual fee is warranted due to the value you get. Thanks to annual benefits like $75 in statement credits for travel on Southwest and four upgraded boardings where available, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card could be well worth it if you're a regular Southwest flyer.

The statement credit for $75 toward Southwest purchases each year effectively lowers the $149 annual fee to lower than the annual fee for the next-cheapest Southwest consumer card, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card ($99 annual fee).

The Priority card offers a bonus of 7,500 Southwest Rapid Rewards points each year after your account anniversary (you can use these points to book award flights). That's worth about $105 in airfare, based on our valuation of Southwest points. Additionally, you'll get 25% off inflight purchases. If you fly Southwest more than once or twice a year, this card can easily be worth the annual fee.

The points you earn from any of the Southwest credit cards can help you qualify for the coveted Southwest Companion Pass , which allows a designated companion to fly with you for next to free (just pay taxes and fees) on paid and award flights.

Southwest is a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner, so you can move points from cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card to Southwest instantly at a 1:1 ratio if you need to boost your balance. However, you cannot transfer points directly between your Southwest credit cards and your Ultimate Rewards-earning credit cards.

Best Premium Airline Credit Card: Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card

The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card is the most rewarding premium credit card from any of the three major legacy US airlines: American Airlines, Delta, and United. And if you're a Delta loyalist, it could end up saving you a lot of money.

Although most other premium airline cards come with airport lounge membership, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card is unique in that when you fly Delta, it not only offers Delta Sky Club access , but also entry to Centurion Lounges when you've used your Amex card to pay for your ticket.

Right now, Delta Reserve cardholders enjoy unlimited access to Delta Sky Clubs on qualifying same-day travel. Beginning February 2025, Reserve cardholders will receive 15 Sky Club visits a year unless they spent $75,000 or more on the Delta Reserve in the previous calendar year.

There's a welcome bonus of 100,000 bonus miles after you spend $6,000 in purchases on your new card in the first six months from account opening (worth around 110000 in flights based on Business Insider's valuations). You'll receive a free first checked bag and priority boarding on Delta flights, an annual Delta companion certificate, and a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit after you apply through any authorized enrollment provider.

This card charges a $650 annual fee, but it can be more than worthwhile if you fly Delta often and travel through airports with eligible airport lounges.

Best for Luxury Travel Benefits and Bonus Rewards on Flights: The Platinum Card® from American Express

The Platinum Card® from American Express likely won't make sense if you only travel once or twice a year, as it has a $695 annual fee. However, if you're on the road frequently, the card's many premium benefits — from airport lounge access to up to $200 in airline fee credits each year** — make it a useful pick.

The Platinum Card® from American Express earns a spot on our list of the top airline rewards cards because it earns 5 points per dollar on flights booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 in this category of spend per calendar year). That's one of the highest earning rates available on flight purchases. The Amex points you earn let you book flights directly through Amex Travel, or you can transfer them to more than a dozen airline partners to book flight awards.

Even if you're not traveling right now, the The Platinum Card® from American Express is still worth considering, as it's offering a lucrative welcome bonus offer and comes with Uber (including Uber Eats) Cash credits**, Saks credits**, digital subscription credits**, Equinox credits**, Walmart+ membership credits**, and SoulCycle At-Home Bike credit you can still use if you're staying close to home.

Read our full The Platinum Card® from American Express review

The Platinum Card® from American Express comes with a slew of valuable benefits, including up to $300 annually in Equinox credits**, $189 per year in credits for CLEAR® Plus membership**, up to $200 per year in credits toward eligible prepaid hotel bookings, and up to $240 annually in credits toward eligible digital subscriptions**.

Which Credit Card Offers the Best Airline Miles?

There isn't one "best" airline credit card or one type of airline mile that's categorically better than the others, because it depends on which airline is most convenient for you.

For example, if your home airport is small, you could have limited options when it comes to which airline you fly, so you'll likely want to earn whatever miles you need to fly from your hometown.

If you live near a large airport where your airline choices are plentiful and you have more options for loyalty, you may want to investigate how much different airline miles are worth. We recommend checking out Business Insider's updated guide to points and miles valuations , which attach a value (in cents) to the major airline currencies based on the types of award flights you can book through each.

You'll see that Delta miles are generally worth less than Alaska miles, but keep in mind all points and miles are only valuable if you can use them — so if you don't travel to destinations served by Alaska or its airline partners, earning its miles probably isn't your best bet.

Airline Credit Card Frequently Asked Questions

Is an airline credit card worth it.

If you're loyal to a particular airline, it could be worth it to get one of its co-branded cards. For instance, United offers the United℠ Explorer Card, which gets you benefits like a free checked bag and priority boarding on United.

If you aren't loyal to a particular airline and you simply book with whichever carrier is offering the cheapest airfare, an airline co-branded card may not be the best option. You could consider a travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or The Platinum Card® from American Express instead. This way, you'll earn points that can be used to book airfare through Chase and Amex, respectively, as well as through specific airline transfer partners affiliated with the two programs.

How do airline credit cards work?

Airline credit cards work by earning miles in a particular frequent flyer program and require you to add your frequent flyer number to your card account. You're usually asked to do this during the credit card application process. Then, you'll earn miles on all your eligible credit card spending, and those earnings will be reflected in your frequent flyer account. You'll be able to access the miles you earned from your credit card directly through your frequent flyer account and use them to book award flights.

What's the difference between airline credit cards and travel rewards credit cards?

Airline credit cards earn you miles in a specific frequent flyer program, such as Southwest Rapid Rewards or United MileagePlus. Travel rewards cards, on the other hand, earn transferable points — rewards that you can transfer to a variety of airline and/or hotel partners. With travel rewards cards, you aren't locked into using your points with only one airline, but you also won't get airline-specific benefits like a free checked bag or priority boarding.

Do airline miles expire?

Airline miles usually expire, but there are some notable exceptions. Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United miles never expire, but with other programs like American Airlines AAdvantage, miles do expire if you don't have any qualifying activity within a certain period (24 months, in the AAdvantage program). Keep in mind that earning miles from using a co-branded airline credit card counts as a qualifying activity and can prevent your miles from expiring.

Should I get an airline credit card?

You should consider getting an airline credit card if you're loyal to a particular airline and fly often enough to get value from perks like free checked bags, priority boarding, and airport lounge access. Even folks who travel the same airline a couple of times a year can save money and get benefits from having an airline credit card.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Chose the Best Airline Credit Cards

Business Insider chose the top airline cards based on the value each card offers in relation to its annual fee. To make sure we were considering the best airline credit cards from every perspective, we also researched the recommendations and methodology of top airline card lists from other websites.

In many cases, each publication had a different pick for the best credit card for a given airline — and in that situation, we arrived at our selection by returning to the question of which card offers the most value in return for its annual fee, excluding benefits that require spending extra money to unlock.

Note that we focused on credit card options for flying with major US airlines — including the "big three" of American, Delta, and United, as well as smaller popular carriers like Alaska, JetBlue, and Southwest. If you frequently fly with another airline like Frontier or Hawaiian, you may want to look into its co-branded credit card options.

With an airline credit card, not only will you earn miles on every purchase you make, but you can also earn a welcome bonus offer that will jump-start your frequent flyer account balance. Depending on the card you choose, you can also get benefits like a free checked bag, priority boarding, or an airline companion ticket.

Read Business Insider's guide to points and miles valuations to find out what your airline miles and credit card points are worth.

There isn't simply one best airline credit card; the right option for you depends on what airline you fly, whether you're a loyalist or want flexibility, how you want to use your miles, how much of an annual fee you're comfortable paying, and several other factors.

You'll also want to consider airline partnerships — for example, it could make sense to get an American Airlines credit card if you want to redeem miles for award flights on Oneworld partners like Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Alternately, a card like the Aeroplan® Credit Card can make sense even if you don't fly Air Canada, because you can redeem Aeroplan points for flights on Star Alliance airlines including United and Lufthansa.

BMO Ascend World Elite Mastercard: New increased welcome bonus of 90,000 points + first year free

After putting a lot of focus into their AIR MILES cards and the new rise eclipse Visa card, BMO is now paying  some attention to their mainstay proprietary travel rewards credit card, the BMO Ascend TM World Elite®* Mastercard®* .  The card that once was one of the best in Canada now sees a new increased welcome bonus of 90,000 points.

The 90,000 BMO Rewards Points bonus

New BMO Ascend World Elite Mastercard cardholders will get up to 90,000 points and the annual fee waived in the first year for both the primary cardholder and authorized users.*

  • Bonus offer awarded as follows: 45,000 points when you spend $4,500 in the first 3 months,
  • 3,750 points for each subsequent month in which you make at least $2,500 in purchases on your card, for 12 months.

It’s nice to see BMO increase the welcome bonus points offer on this card but they have also increased the amount of spend required. The previous iteration of the offer required a total spend of $27,000 spread across 15 months the get the bonus. Now with this new offer they require $34,500 in spending across 15 months to get the 90,000 points.

That’s right it does take a full 15 months as the the first three months are $4,500 in spend to get 45,000 points and then from month 4 through to 15 you need to spend the $2,500 per month to get all the bonus points. If you are shy of the $4,500 in the first three months you won’t get any of the 45,000 points so make sure you are on top your spend for this portion of the offer.

For the month 4 to 15 bonuses, those are monthly so if you are shy of spending $2,500 in one month you can still earn the bonus points in the other months you do hit that spend amount.

Not only does it take 15 months to get the entire bonus, but $34,500 in spending is crazy high and is by far the most out of any premium cards and even ultra premium cards in market other than BMO’s eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege Card!  Most cards require anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000 in spending and have welcome bonus value that is similar or better.

In the BMO Rewards program 90,000 points is worth $600 towards any travel or BMO Investment products. The absolute value however after taking into account the annual fee for the second year is $450. You can also redeem for statement credits with their Pay with Points redemption option which the 90,000 points would provide $450 ($300 after 2nd year annual fee) in cash back credits.

First year free

Along with the 90,000 points this current new cardholder welcome bonus offer includes the first year free on the primary card and authorized users. The annual fee on the card is $150 and supplementary/additional cards are $50 each but note that if you do plan on attempting to get the entire 90,000 points bonus you will be charged the fees in your second year as you near completion of the 12 additional months of bonuses.

The card earns BMO Rewards points like other proprietary BMO cards and has category multipliers on the types of purchases:

  • 5 points for every $1 spent on eligible travel purchases
  • 3 points for every $1 spent on eligible dining and entertainment purchases and recurring bill payments
  • 1 point for every $1 spent everywhere else

The 5x points for travel is capped at $15,000 in spend for this category annually and the three 3x points categories are all capped at $10,000 in annual spend each.

Airport Lounge Access

The BMO Ascend World Elite Mastercard offers an annual Mastercard Travel Pass provided by DragonPass membership which normally costs up to US$99 per year. The membership provides discounted access to over 1,300 lounges worldwide.

The card also provides four (4) complimentary visits per calendar year to any of the lounges in the program. This is a unique benefit to this card as the majority of Canadian World Elite cards do not offer any free visit passes, just the membership so you can get the discounted access.

Wrapping it up

BMO has increased the welcome bonus on their headlining travel rewards card, the Ascend World Elite Mastercard to 90,000 points. While it is always good to see a bigger bonus it’s a tough one to rave about when you have to spend $34,500 over the course of 15 months to receive it. While many of the people who can apply for this card would have no problem spending that amount the question would be why? With that amount of spend it would be more advantageous to get yourself 3 or 4 different cards over the same 15 months and easily come out with $2,000 or more in welcome bonus offers instead of $450 and still spend less than $34,500!

Signature style: API showing what Tour wants in elite events

ORLANDO, Fla. – This is what the signature events were supposed to be.

The big money and small fields were created to woo the game’s best together on a more regular and predictable basis but through three signature stops this season the results, at least relative to the promise, have been underwhelming.

Chris Kirk won the season opener in Maui; Wyndham Clark was the high-water winner at 10 th in the world when he won the weather-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am; and Hideki Matsuyama, who claimed the year’s third signature title in Los Angeles, is an unrivaled superstar in Asia, but for U.S. galleries that stardom is literally lost in translation.

Final-round tee times, pairings for the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Here’s a look at tee times and pairing for Sunday at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida.

Golf Channel Staff

It's why the final frame at the Arnold Palmer Invitational holds so much promise and a chance for PGA Tour executives to take a collective breath.

In order, the 54-hole leaderboard includes world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Shane Lowry as co-leaders; Clark, who is on the cusp of being the first player to win three signature/designated events, one back; Will Zalatoris and Matsuyama two back; and the Tour’s ultimate frontman, Rory McIlroy, four off the pace. It’s not the embarrassment of riches officials promised when they launched the top-heavy series -- and given the star drain of LIV Golf, that field doesn’t exist outside of the majors -- but it’s good enough for a circuit in need of a break.

A legit signature Sunday was likely in the cards given how the game’s top players tend to peak around the best tournaments, and next week’s Players Championship certainly qualifies. Bay Hill is also likely factoring into the upgrade in star power as one of the Tour’s toughest tests.

“This golf course, I mean you guys are watching, it is so difficult out there and the wind gusting and the greens, there's not much turf on there, they're rolling so fast,” said Clark, who was alone in third following a third-round 71. “I didn't think anyone was going to run away with it and even if someone did, it's just so difficult and too hard to run away with it.”

Clark, rules officials: No rules violated on Bay Hill’s 18th; Chamblee disagrees

Clark said a rules official determined that his ball did not move and he did not improve his lie before hitting his second shot at 18 on Saturday at Bay Hill.

Brentley Romine ,

Zalatoris, who returned to the Tour this year following microdiscectomy surgery last spring, was poised to challenge Clark’s theory late into his third round with a five-shot advantage through 11 holes. He then stumbled with a bogey at No. 14 and a double-bogey 6 at the 15 th hole. He finished with a 71 and is tied for fourth, two shots off the lead held by Scheffler and Lowry, with McIlroy in a group at 5 under.

Three of the last five winners at Bay Hill have come from the pack on Sunday and it’s apropos that Arnie’s Place would favor the comeback given the tournament’s namesake forged a hall-of-fame career and swashbuckling legacy by playing from the rough and defying the odds.

Scheffler understands the nature of Bay Hill better than anyone, having come from two shots off the lead in 2022, when he donned the red cardigan sweater. But if he’s going to end a title drought that stretches back nearly a year, he’ll have to defy the status quo which will only be more challenging on a course that has become increasingly firm with winds that whipped to 20 mph on Saturday. It was a similarly brutal week in ’22 when his even-par 72 was good enough for a one-stroke victory.

“I believe it was a lot of days like there was today, where it was just windy and gusty, and the greens are pretty much dead,” Scheffler said of his ’22 victory. “It may have been a little tougher a couple years ago, but I think today was pretty comparable. A couple years ago, I think it was like that most of the days. We had two rounds here this week where it wasn't very windy. Tomorrow, I think we're going to see more of the same or more of what we saw today.”

But it's the unforgiving nature of Bay Hill that seems to favor the field over the front-runners. The idea being, that the more demanding the conditions, the less room for error.

“I think [the tougher conditions] makes it easier just because you hit good golf shots you're going to get rewarded,” Zalatoris said. “You hit some mediocre golf shots, you're going to get penalized real quick. That's just Bay Hill.

“I was 5 under [on the day] through 11 or 12 or whatever it was. You take that stretch and you kind of spread it out over the last 36 holes, I probably wouldn't be as disappointed. [I’m] playing great golf. I really hit three bad shots that cost me five shots.”

Most importantly, at least to Tour executives, the demanding conditions favor the top of the marquee. The idea being, that the game’s best rise to the occasion, which is largely why the circuit finally has its signature leaderboard.

Mastercard's partnership with arnold palmer invitational going strong after 20 years, share this article.

travel world elite mastercard

ORLANDO – The Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard was for years the King's party, played at the course he took over in the 1970s and where he lived. Even after his playing days ended, he was the main draw, inspiring elite PGA Tour players to make the annual trip to Bay Hill Club & Lodge.

When Palmer passed away in 2016 at the age of 87, there was some concern about what might become of the tournament that bears his legendary name. Would top players still come to Bay Hill if he wasn't there to present the red sweater to the winner? Would sponsors? It's not uncommon for Tour events that lose their title character to suffer in ensuing years.

As it turns out, there was nothing to worry about. The Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard is still one of the Tour's top tournaments -- now elevated as a premium signature event with a limited field of stars. And the players still remember the man known at Bay Hill as Mr. Palmer.

"I feel like a lot of kids like myself growing up, you would see this and it’s a massive event," said Max Homa, the World No. 8 who sits tied for ninth place after the first two rounds this year at Bay Hill. Homa, who has finished in the top 25 each of the four years in which he has played at Bay Hill, now represents Mastercard on Tour.

"We have been so lucky with everything that he’s left us and built for us, that I think anytime his name is attached to anything, I feel you want to attach yourself to it, if that makes sense," Homa said the night before this year's tournament began. "I feel like we owe him. I would imagine he would disagree, but we owe him to kind of keep progressing things in the right way. Especially at his event."

Mastercard feels the same way as it celebrates its 20 th  year as sponsor of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Arnold Palmer Invitational

The relationship between Mastercard and the tournament is one of the longest-running on Tour, and Mastercard has committed considerable capital and efforts to make the event special, including raising the purse to $20 million. That's up from a $6.2 million purse offered 10 years ago. This year's winner will pocket $4 million.

And Mastercard's involvement goes far beyond the purse. The company's branding is ubiquitous at Bay Hill, from the flags on the greens to the seats in the premium event spaces. Mastercard holders receive discounts on tickets and are able to obtain access to special Mastercard pavilions around the course. The company also hosts several events where Mastercard partners mingle with golf's stars, current and past. On the grounds this year, golf fans can even test their putting stroke in a Mastercard simulator that provides instructional feedback courtesy of artificial intelligence, an endeavor to highlight the company's technical chops. From the pre-tournament pro-am to the trophy celebration after the closing round, Mastercard’s involvement is obvious every step of the way.

Mastercard's sponsorship -- alongside the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation -- also has generated tens of millions of dollars for local charities, a community involvement that was near and dear to Palmer. His and wife Winnie's name adorn the local children's hospitals operated by Orlando Health, and the foundation's reach extends all the way to local parks and beyond.

Why does Mastercard make such a hefty commitment? We'll let Raja Rajamannar, Mastercard's chief marketing and communications officer and president of the company's healthcare business, explain. Besides leading Mastercard's marketing efforts, Rajamannar is president of the World Federation of Advertisers, authored the book "Quantum Marketing: Mastering the New Marketing Mindset for Tomorrow's Consumers," and has his work serve as case studies at Harvard and Yale.

It doesn't hurt that he's a golf nut. He played alongside World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in this year's pro-am for the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. During an interview for this story in the Mastercard trophy suite behind the 17 th  green, Rajamannar would pause to watch players putt, his animated reactions to their makes and misses as passionate as his discussion of marketing and his company's role at Bay Hill.

Can you describe how important this 20-year relationship with the Arnold Palmer Invitational has been to Mastercard, and how that relationship has evolved over the years?

Rajamannar:  What we did, a few years back, is radically change our marketing strategy. It used to be an advertising-led marketing strategy. We realized there is too much clutter in advertising. You are exposed to between 3,000 and 10,000 ads a day, and it’s impossible to process it. Secondly, the span of attention of human beings is going down to less than eight seconds, which is less than that of a goldfish. And people are putting ad blockers on their devices, and people are preferring to pay money for advertising-free streaming channels and so on.

So we said advertising is good, it serves a purpose, but we need to have something else to connect with consumers, engage them and impress upon them that they should stick with us or prefer us over anyone else.

That’s when we hit upon this whole concept of experiential marketing. Curate and create experiences that money cannot buy, but you get them with Mastercard. We identified multiple passion points, areas that people care deeply about.

Sports is a passion point. And within sports, golf is one of the finest sports. It’s a beautiful sport, very elegant, very classy. So we decided to say this is one area we will take, and we renewed our contract at that time with the PGA Tour, pivoting to a lot of experiences, whether it is walking inside the ropes for our customers or having the kind of branding that you see, special pavilions only for Mastercard. A whole lot of things we began creating.

Our initial hypothesis proved very right, so we started deepening our partnerships everywhere. And as the PGA Tour went through its journey, we worked with them to make this one of the signature events with a nice healthy purse, so we are really assured of a fantastic slate every single time, even in the absence of Mr. Palmer.

So 20 years in now, our relationship is much stronger today than it ever was. If I look now, the past 10 years have been better than the previous 10, and the last five have been better than the previous 15. It’s great.

During the pandemic, as well, we stuck with them and they stuck with us. So we said this is a long-term commitment, and they appreciate that fact. Many sports have seen sponsors walking away because of whatever reasons, but we stuck with the PGA Tour and have found it to be a delightful experience.

So this is one of our signature events, literally, that we are so proud of, along with the Grammy Awards, Major League Baseball’s All-Stars, the MLB World Series. We have a few of these in the U.S., which are fantastic. So this is one of our marquee events, and consumer feedback has been fantastic. We have both customers and consumers coming here, card-holders as well as clients from banks and fintech companies.

Everyone who comes, the takeaway is very positive feelings toward Mastercard. That helps our brand, and that helps our business. We always aspired to be a relationship company, but we are realizing it to a greater scale today.

Why is the PGA Tour such a good partner for you? There have been many upheavals in golf in recent years. Why does the PGA Tour work for you?

Firstly, with the organization and its management, the chemistry has been fantastic. They understand our brand, and they understand our requirements. They are very accommodating, very flexible. When you have a partner of that sort, it becomes easy to work with.

Secondly, when we have raised concerns — for example, Mr. Palmer is not there, what’s going to happen to this event? What will guarantee we have a good audience? — they came up with solutions every single time. Like this, making it a signature tournament, upping the prize purse to where it’s now $20 million. All this is really, really positive for us.

All the turmoil they have been going through, they have been keeping us completely in the loop. We said, look, at the end of the day what we want is, as we call it, to connect people to priceless possibilities. Our people care about golf. We want golf to be winning. And we want an organization that does exactly that, and that’s the PGA Tour. So we have been sticking with them, and I think it’s been very positive.

This tournament has had such a huge impact on health availability in this area, particularly with the hospitals that bear the Palmer name (and that have been funded over the decades in large part through contributions tied to the tournament). How important is that kind of impact when you decide where to invest?

It’s critical. And now we are taking our lessons from here to other events, whether it be MLB where we are partnering with the Stand Up To Cancer foundation, or in places such as the Grammy Awards where we are partnering with the Recording Academy to support children and people from underprivileged backgrounds.

Here, what Mr. Palmer has done with the hospitals, also created a kind of momentum around it where the whole community is all in, in support of his vision. He was doing a fantastic job. I was very fortunate to have met him multiple times before he passed, and every time I would come away feeling inspired and energized and deeply touched. When he passed, we said his legacy needs to continue.

There have been challenges with other events when the person behind the event has passed, the event has lost some of its gravitas. We didn’t want that to happen here. So we spoke to a number of players and asked, are you going to continue? Is it really important for you? And the PGA Tour, what are you doing? It really was doing really well. So, this is one of the unique events with passion out here for the golf and purpose out there for the community. That is powerful.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
