Air Announce Moon Safari North American Tour Dates

By Nina Corcoran

Air band ft JeanBenoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin

Air have been playing their 1998 classic Moon Safari on tour in Europe, and the French duo has now announced the North American leg of the anniversary tour. The shows in Canada and the United States take place in the fall. See all of Air’s upcoming tour dates below.

It’s been over a decade since Air last released an album of new material. After putting out Le voyage dans la lune in 2012—a soundtrack for the restored version of Georges Méliès’ iconic silent film—the duo did share the compilation LP Twentyyears four years later, and it included the two previously unreleased songs “Roger Song” and “Adis Abebah.”

See which album Air’s Nicolas Godin picked for a list of “ 33 Musicians on Their Favorite Albums of the Last 25 Years .”

The Doobie Brothers are set to release their first new album with the classic rock band’s core lineup in nearly 50 years.

Co-founders Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston told Billboard that they’re working on new material for a Doobies album that will feature legendary singer Michael McDonald. It will be the first album featuring McDonald, Simmons and Johnston since “Takin’ It to the Streets” was released in 1975.

“It’s very exciting,” Simmons, the only member of the band’s entire 54-year career, told Billboard. “At one point I said, ‘Hey, we’re doing all these dates… As long as we’re doing this it would make sense to do a record. I think people would really get a kick out of that.’” With a chuckle he adds that, “We have yet to find out whether they’ll get a kick out of it or whether we’ll get kicked for it.”

The Doobie Brothers are currently on the third year of a 50th anniversary reunion tour that features McDonald, Johnston, Simmons and longtime member John McFee. Upcoming concerts include an Aug. 13 concert at the Broadview Stage at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) in Saratoga Springs; Steve Winwood will open the show.

“A lot of people will be like, ‘Oh god you want to be out, die on the road?’ Well, why not? It’s as good as going anywhere else,” Simmons told syracuse.com with a laugh in 2022.

“The dream of getting up there and rockin’ onstage, that was all kind of what we idealized as kids, and here we are, as old guys, still living it,” he added. “And probably we’ll go down living it, because that’s what we are.”

The Doobie Brothers are a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group known for hits like “China Grove,” “Listen to the Music,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” “Black Water” and the Grammy-winning “What a Fool Believes.” The band released a new album, “Liberté,” in 2021, but the upcoming release will be their first full album with McDonald since “One Step Closer” in 1980 (though he also sang backing vocals on several tracks for 2014′s “Southbound”).

McDonald, Johnston and Simmons all appeared on the 1975 album “Takin’ It to the Streets.” Johnston left the band in 1977 and McDonald left in 1982, though they reunited with the Doobie Brothers in later years.

According to Billboard, each of the main Doobies contributed several songs to the new album, produced by John Shanks. Simmons said one track, “Walk This Road,” will feature vocals by McDonald, Johnston and special guest Mavis Staples.

“This one’s probably a little moreso diverse because Michael is involved in all the tunes, but that’s fine, man. It’s an extension of what we’re doing on the road,” Johnston told Billboard.

A title and release date have not been announced, but the group is planning to release it before their summer tour dates begin in June.

ABOUT HALESTORM:

Having amassed over 2.5 Billion streams globally, the Grammy-Award winning band Halestorm has grown from a childhood dream of siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale into one of the most celebrated rock bands of the last two decades.  Most recently, the band released Back From The Dead , their fifth full-length studio album which has tallied over 100 Million streams worldwide.   Rolling Stone called the title track “a biting but cathartic howler about overcoming all obstacles,” and that song as well as “The Steeple” marked their fifth and sixth number ones at rock radio, respectively.   Associated Press said the album “will definitely be in the running for best hard rock/metal album of the year.” Their previous album, Vicious, earned the band their second Grammy nomination, for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “Uncomfortable,” the band’s fourth #1 at rock radio, and led Loudwire to name Halestorm “Rock Artist of the Decade” in 2019.  Fronted by the incomparable Lzzy Hale with drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bass player Josh Smith, Halestorm’s music has earned multiple Platinum and Gold Certifications from the RIAA, and the band has earned a reputation as a powerful live music force, headlining sold-out shows and topping festival bills around the world, and sharing the stage with icons including Heaven & Hell, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, and Judas Priest. Additionally, Lzzy was named the first female brand ambassador for Gibson and served as host of AXS TV’s “A Year in Music.”

ABOUT I PREVAIL:

I Prevail have established themselves as the forerunners of the genre in the 21st century. Their latest release TRUE POWER, once again produced by Tyler Smyth, features the sort of stadium-sized riffs that will rattle your teeth loose from your gums and unforgettable, supremely catchy melodies that will camp out in your brain for weeks at a time. The band also alternately mixes screamed vocals that sound as though they crawled from the depths of hell with soaring, emotional vocals and heartfelt, intimate lyrics that go so deep, they hit marrow. The end result is an album that resonates with the listener in the most personal way. Rising to an arena level and receiving two Grammy nominations — Best Rock Album for Trauma and Best Metal Performance for crushing lead single “Bow Down” — I Prevail proved that they were built to last. To date, they’ve racked up more than 4.1 billion global streams, are approaching 716 million YouTube views, and saw both “Hurricane” and “Bad Things” singles top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020 and 2022 respectively. A number of their singles and album Lifelines have now been certified Gold and Platinum, and they have been praised by press far and wide, including Forbes, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, and NPR. I Prevail have affirmed their position among the genre’s elite.

ABOUT HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD:

Formed in 2005, Hollywood Undead inched towards mainstream dominance under the radar with unprecedented success for a modern band. Preceding the current playlist-hopping genre-less boom, they defied stylistic boundaries from day one integrating rap, rock, and electronic. The band will be heading back out on the road in the Fall of 2023 with hip hop legend Tech N9ne co-head lining the HOLLYWOOD & N9NE Tour in support of their 8th studio album, Hotel Kalifornia.

ABOUT FIT FOR A KING:

Fit For A King’s musical style is rooted in metal and hardcore and uplifted by hypnotic hooks. Following the breakout LP Creation/Destruction [2013], they earned four consecutive Top 5 debuts on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart with Slave to Nothing [2014], Deathgrip [2016], Dark Skies [2018], and The Path [2020]. The latter marked their first Top 10 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart. Plus, the band collaborated with fellow heavy-hitters such as August Burns Red and We Came As Romans. They’ve generated nearly 435 million streams over the course of their career, have toured with Pierce the Veil, I Prevail, The Devil Wears Prada, Motionless in White, and many more. Their latest The Hell We Create is out now via Solid State Records.

Hawklords announce new album Space

UK space rockers Hawklords will release their tenth studio album Space in September

Hawklords

Space rockers  Hawklords  have announced they will release a brand new studio album, Space , through Shellshock Distribution Ltd. on September 29.

The new album is the band's tenth studio album and is "dedicated to all fellow travellers who choose to explore Space on their own terms."

"his is an album for audiophiles of all kinds which takes the listener on a journey through the dark and the beautiful spaces of human existence. Inner space, outer space, head space: Human Race," says founder member, guitarist and songwriter, Jerry Richards.

"From the bone-crushing opener, Gravity Well , with its Dante-esque ' Fires of Hell ' lyrical commentary, to the pop-strut ear-worm mantra of Super Star Drive , the dark explorative construct, Lost in Space , which is as much about loneliness as it is about the vastness of the Universe, to The Silence of Space , a dark poem about the fate of the galaxy set to an electro/industrial soundtrack reminiscent of any sci-fi classic movie, Gravity Zero and its super-hook chorus, " Any life on Mars? " to You Will Be The Sun , a romantic ode to any form of love under the stars."

Joining Richards on the new album are Mr Dibs (bass, vocals, audio generators) and Dave Pearce (drums). The new album artwork, which you can view below, has been created by Martin Robert Cook.

AIR to Perform ‘Moon Safari’ in Its Entirety During Fall North American Tour: ‘This Album Is a Little Bit Medicinal’

The tour marks the 25th anniversary of the French duo's beloved 1998 debut.

AIR

French electronic duo AIR will bring audiences to space this fall during a North American tour honoring the 25-year anniversary of their beloved 1998 debut, Moon Safari .

The pair, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, will play the album in its entirety during the 19-date tour, which starts Sept. 25 in Vancouver and ends Oct. 30 in Austin, Texas. See the complete schedule below.

#TBT Mixtape: French Duo Air On 20th Anniversary Tour, ‘Virgin Suicides’ Score & Longtime Bond With…

Trending on billboard.

Released in January 1998, the album marked a breakout moment for the electronica genre and earned wide critical acclaim.

While making it, Godin says that “my obsession was to do something timeless, so I focused very hard not to put things in the music production that would date the album. And during the process, many times we felt we were visited by something magic, we felt blessed during some takes; and also when I was listening to the radio, I couldn’t figure how people were making hit singles. It was not in my skills so if you can’t make a hit, the best other option is to make a classic.”

“Before we decided to do this tour, we went to a rehearsal room for three days to see if it was technically possible to perform the entire album,” Godin continues, “and as soon as we started to play the first notes of ‘Kelly Watch the Stars’ or ‘La Femme d’Argent,’ we had a thrill.”

The tour will not feature Moon Safari vocalist Beth Hirsch, who helped forge the album’s dreamy, sexy atmosphere on “All I Need” and “You Make It Easy.” But Dunckel says the pair has “made some arrangements to deliver the soul of these tracks” through their use of a vocoder. “I think that the new arrangements are working on stage,” he continues. “We feel the singer singing without her singing.”

“I think this album is a little bit medicinal,” Dunckel adds. “It heals people’s wounds. Like the wounds I had at the time we made it. That’s what melancholic music does to you isn’t it? The melancholia into the music swallows the listener’s melancholia because the musician and the listener are talking to each other as in a therapy conversation or in a dream.”

Of the original tour behind the album, Dunckel recalls realizing the album “was really working when we toured in the U.S., and in Spain. People were really enjoying the shows and they were so happy to see us for real. I felt it in the audience voices.”

Space Bacon Rides New Lineup, New Songs, New “Sizzle” Into Biggest Headlining Tour To Date [Interview]

space bacon, space bacon music, space bacon band, space bacon tour, space bacon 2023 tour, space bacon mun, space bacon fred rylands, mun space bacon

While Space Bacon has been filling the air with salty, savory, sounds for a decade, the Brooklyn NY-based jam quartet is poised to break into a new atmosphere with its upcoming fall tour of the Northeast, the band’s biggest headlining outing to date and first major tour with its recently appointed new guitarist. Tickets for all dates are on sale here .

Earlier this year, after ten years with its original lineup, Space Bacon officially parted ways with founding guitarist Jack Willard as he continues to pursue his burgeoning solo house music project . During the band’s three-set hometown tenth anniversary show at Brooklyn Made , Space Bacon’s  Sam Crespo (drums), Chris Gironda (keyboards), and Kevin LeGall (bass) performed with both Willard and his replacement, Fred Rylands , a baton-passing moment that served to wrap up one chapter and introduce the next.

While Rylands may be new to the band’s onstage lineup, he’s been well within the Space Bacon orbit since he signed on as the band’s front of house engineer in 2015. Since then, he has served as the de facto “fifth member” of the four-piece, traveling with them on tour, mixing them live, and mastering the majority of their recordings on Bandcamp . Rylands, formerly the guitarist for MUN , also sat in with Space Bacon on guitar various times during his tenure behind the soundboard, adding touches of his own technique to a sonic style that spans deep house, heavy metal, rock anthems, funk and trip-hop beats, and everything in between.

Although he recognizes the significance of filling the slot, Rylands feels particularly prepared for the responsibility. “Working 150+ Bacon shows sure helped with that,” he explained to Live For Live Music , adding that “the biggest benefit is that fact that I’ve played music with Chris, Kevin, and Sam for years now, outside and related to Space Bacon. We clicked real early on and that gave me more confidence to find my place in the band as the new guitarist.”

Now, it’s up to him to balance the tasks of honoring the sound honed by the band over a decade’s time and finding new ways to make the material his own. “Where the mindset differs for me personally is that while I’m trying to do my thing, I’m also trying to preserve the sound that Jack made the band known for,” Rylands explained. “I’ve never been in a position where I’ve replaced a band member, let alone an OG member of 10 years, so I’ve been doing my best to incorporate some of the familiar stylings that Space Bacon fans look for at shows. From raw, ripping solos, to melodic, patient builds, to soundscapes on samplers, all are a nod to my predecessor.”

Still, Rylands added, “Those who know me know that I don’t shy away from the heavy, heavy, monster sounds, so that’s been growing as of late. But on top of trying to cross that over, fans and listeners can expect me to put much more ‘Space’ in Space Bacon. I’ll leave that up to interpretation.”

“With a lineup change in the form of any collaboration (music, work, or elsewhere), there is always a sense of doubt, whether you can really go forward as a group and be the best you can be,” explained bassist Kevin LeGall. “Jack has been with us since the start 10 years ago in the Bronx. He’s the man that everyone looks at shredding at the climax of a jam, he assisted with writing a lot of material, he helped us become not only a better band, but better individuals—always challenging us to think outside the box. This new chapter of Space Bacon is exciting.”

“We couldn’t think of anyone better than Fred to fill in the shoes,” LeGall said. Pointing to his COVID-era collaborative project with Rylands, The Plug , as a precursor to the new lineup, he added, “I never thought the experience of us writing music together would eventually translate to Space Bacon. Whether piecing together some demos for a new song or coordinating the climax of a live improvisational progression, Fred has been top notch every step of the way. As a band, we’re excited to go out on the road and prove to people we got something special. We will let the music speak for itself.”

Since making the switch, Space Bacon has accelerated its ascent. The band has been writing new music and debuting it during notable performances all year, from Lotus ‘ annual  Summerdance and the Hudson Valley’s Drift Jam to supporting slots at Syracuse, NY’s The Westcott Theatre (opening for Papadosio ), Port Chester, NY’s The Captiol Theatre (opening for Lotus at Chuck Morris ‘ memorial ), and more.

The timely 2023 fall tour arrives in the midst of this creatively invigorated period for Space Bacon. After kicking off the late-2023 voyage with a pair of Virginia shows at Vienna’s Jammin Java (September 29th) and Richmond’s Richmond Music Hall (September 30th), the band will head to The Disco Biscuits ‘ inaugural Biscoland festival in Lafayette, NY (10/6) then continue north for a show at the famed Nectar’s in Burlington, VT (10/7). Over the ensuing weeks, Space Bacon will make its way to Bridgeport, CT’s Park City Music Hall (10/13), Saratoga Springs, NY’s  Putnam Place (10/20), and Worcester, MA’s Electric Haze (10/21) before mounting a two-night run at Philadelphia, PA’s  Milkboy on October 27th and 28th. After a quiet November, Space Bacon will take the stage again in early December for gigs at  The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH (12/8) and  Arch Street Tavern in Hartford, CT (12/9).

Within the rock space: Los Angeles-based Levitation Room releases 'Strange Weather,' set to play Sister

Mar. 7—For the guys in Los Angeles-based rock band Levitation Room, it's a race against time on tour.

The band was on its way to Canada for a show and they were running behind.

"It's stressful," the band says during a recent interview. "There's been a lot to get ready for this tour. It seems like this tour, there's a lot more that had to get done because of the roll-out with the album."

Levitation Room released "Strange Weather" on Feb. 16. The band is currently on a co-headlining tour with Brazil-based Boogarins. The tour is slated to make a stop at Sister in Downtown Albuquerque on Friday, March 8.

Levitation Room is led by singer and guitarist Julian Porte along with founding members Gabriel Fernandez and Johnathan Martin. Kevin Perez joined the band in 2021.

The band's 2015 debut, "Friends," has surpassed 20 million streams.

Levitation Room began working on "Strange Weather" in January 2023, and by early April it was completed.

"There was a lot of back and forth in terms of mixing the album," the band recalls. "There were also a couple of songs that didn't make the album."

For the last decade, Levitation Room has been known for its self-produced, otherworldly music that's connected with fellow travelers in the hallucinogenic world of outré rock.

With "Strange Weather," the band says it took a conscious shift into all the other sub-pockets within the rock space.

The band collaborated with former Brian Jonestown Massacre keyboardist Rob Campanella, Jason Kick, and The Black Crowes' Joel Robinow on the new album.

Martin says the record's lyrical narratives — about love in the park, life in the city, and the fact that "the world today is such an illusion" — are appropriately steeped in '60s sonics and a dreamy, lo-fi atmosphere.

"We usually come up with ideas at band practice while we are tightening up the set," Martin says. "Something will catch one of our ears. It ends up turning into an idea or song. It's usually a strong collaboration among us."

Levitation Room also has enough material to fill more than one set and is looking at how to put together the strongest set.

"That's been a conversation every night," Martin says. "It all depends on our set time and if we're closing the night. We talk about it in the van. Lately, that's where decisions are being made."
