Cruising with Carnival is a dream come true for many people. The anticipation of exploring new destinations, enjoying exciting activities onboard, and creating unforgettable memories is part of the magic of cruising. However, there may be instances where unforeseen circumstances arise, leading to the cancellation of a Carnival cruise. This article aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of what happens if Carnival cancels your cruise and the available options for refunds and compensation.

As a leading cruise line, Carnival takes passenger safety and satisfaction seriously. While it is uncommon for Carnival to cancel a cruise, there are certain circumstances that may warrant such action. These can range from weather-related issues, mechanical problems with the ship, or even in response to global events that may impact travel.

To ensure that you are well-prepared and informed, it is essential to understand Carnival’s cancellation policy, the potential reasons they may cancel a cruise, and the impact it can have on your travel plans. Moreover, knowing your options for refunds, compensation, and rebooking will enable you to navigate through any unexpected cancellations with ease and minimal disruption.

Whether you have already booked a cruise with Carnival or you are considering it in the future, this article will serve as a valuable reference to help you navigate the often confusing and uncertain waters of cruise cancellations. So, let’s delve deeper into the various aspects of what happens if Carnival cancels your cruise and how to handle the situation.

Understanding Carnival’s Cancellation Policy

Before we explore the potential scenarios and outcomes of a cancelled Carnival cruise, it is important to familiarize ourselves with Carnival’s cancellation policy. This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures that Carnival follows in the event of a cruise cancellation.

Carnival’s cancellation policy varies depending on the specific cruise, departure date, and length of the voyage. Generally, the policy allows for cancellations by either the passenger or the cruise line, with different terms and conditions for each scenario.

If you, as a passenger, decide to cancel your Carnival cruise, it is important to do so within the specified timeframe to receive any possible refunds. Carnival provides a full refund for cancellations made within the designated period, minus any applicable cancellation fees or penalties.

On the other hand, if Carnival cancels your cruise, they will typically offer a range of options to accommodate passengers affected by the cancellation. These options may include refunds, rebooking on a future cruise, or issuing a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) that can be used towards a future Carnival cruise.

It is crucial to review the specific terms and conditions of your booking, as the cancellation policy may vary for different fare types, promotions, and packages. Additionally, it is advisable to stay updated with any changes or updates to the cancellation policy, as these can occur due to various factors such as global events, regulatory requirements, or changes in the cruise industry.

By understanding Carnival’s cancellation policy, you will have a clearer understanding of the potential outcomes and options available to you in the unfortunate event of a cruise cancellation. This knowledge will help you effectively navigate the next steps and make well-informed decisions regarding refunds, compensation, and rebooking.

Possible Reasons for Carnival to Cancel a Cruise

While it is rare for Carnival to cancel a cruise, there are certain circumstances that may warrant such action. Understanding the potential reasons for a cruise cancellation can help you better prepare and manage your expectations in case such an event occurs. Here are some possible reasons for Carnival to cancel a cruise:

  • Adverse Weather Conditions: Inclement weather such as hurricanes, storms, or extreme sea conditions can pose significant risks to the safety and comfort of passengers. In the interest of passenger safety, Carnival may cancel or modify a cruise itinerary if these conditions are deemed unsafe to navigate.
  • Technical Issues: Mechanical problems or technical issues with the ship can cause disruptions to scheduled cruises. In such cases, Carnival may need to cancel a cruise to address and resolve these issues before the ship can safely voyage.
  • Global Events or Emergencies: Unforeseen global events or emergencies, such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, or political unrest, can impact travel and necessitate the cancellation of cruises. These events may create unsafe conditions or result in travel restrictions or advisories that make it impossible for the cruise to proceed as planned.
  • Regulatory Requirements: Carnival operates within the framework of various regulations and compliance standards set by international maritime authorities and governing bodies. If Carnival is unable to meet the necessary regulatory requirements to operate a specific cruise, it may result in a cancellation.
  • Operational Considerations: Carnival may also cancel a cruise due to operational considerations, such as low demand or insufficient bookings. While rare, if a cruise does not meet the minimum passenger threshold, Carnival may choose to cancel the voyage to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for guests.

It is important to note that these reasons are provided as examples and not an exhaustive list. The decision to cancel a cruise is made by Carnival in the best interest of passenger safety, comfort, and overall satisfaction. The cruise line will always prioritize the well-being of its guests and crew in any situation that may necessitate a cancellation.

While a cancelled cruise can be disappointing, it is essential to remain understanding and flexible in these circumstances. Carnival will typically offer various alternatives and options to help affected passengers navigate through the cancellation and minimize any inconvenience caused.

Next, we will explore the potential impact a cancelled Carnival cruise can have on your travel plans and the available options for refunds and compensation.

Impact of Carnival Cancelling My Cruise

When Carnival cancels your cruise, it can have various impacts on your travel plans and overall vacation experience. Understanding these potential impacts will help you navigate through the situation effectively and make informed decisions regarding your next steps.

One of the primary impacts of a cancelled Carnival cruise is the disruption of your travel itinerary. You may have made additional travel arrangements, such as flights, accommodations, and transportation, that are now affected by the cancellation. It is important to assess the implications of the cancellation on these arrangements and make any necessary adjustments or cancellations to minimize any financial or logistical consequences.

The cancellation of your cruise can also affect your vacation schedule and potentially disrupt other plans or commitments you had made. If you had planned activities or excursions at the cruise ports, you may need to reschedule or make alternate arrangements. Additionally, if you had taken time off from work or made arrangements for childcare or pet care, the cancellation may require you to readjust these plans as well.

Another impact of a cancelled Carnival cruise is the emotional disappointment and frustration that you may experience. You may have been looking forward to the cruise for months, and the cancellation can dampen your spirits and leave you feeling let down. However, it is important to keep in mind that safety is the utmost priority for Carnival, and the decision to cancel is made to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew.

Financially, the cancellation of your cruise can have different implications depending on the specific terms and conditions of your booking. Carnival typically offers options for refunds, compensation, or rebooking in the event of a cancellation. It is important to review the details of your booking and understand the options available to you. This will help you assess the financial impact of the cancellation and make decisions regarding refunds or future cruise credits.

Lastly, the cancellation of your Carnival cruise can also impact any special occasions or celebrations you had planned. Whether it is a birthday, anniversary, or family reunion, the cancellation can disrupt these plans and require you to make alternate arrangements or reschedule your celebration.

While the impact of a cancelled Carnival cruise can be significant, it is important to stay positive and focus on the options and alternatives available to you. The next section will explore the available options for refunds, compensation, and rebooking that Carnival typically offers to passengers affected by a cruise cancellation.

Refund and Compensation Options

When Carnival cancels your cruise, they typically offer a range of options for refunds and compensation. These options aim to provide passengers with flexibility and alternatives in light of the cancellation. Let’s explore some of the common refund and compensation options that Carnival may offer:

  • Full Refund: One of the primary options in the case of a cancelled Carnival cruise is a full refund of the cruise fare. This includes the base fare, taxes, fees, and any pre-paid amenities or packages. Carnival will refund the amount back to the original form of payment used for the booking.
  • Future Cruise Credit (FCC): Carnival may offer passengers a Future Cruise Credit as a form of compensation. This credit can be used towards a future Carnival cruise, allowing you to rebook at a later date. The value of the FCC typically includes the full amount paid for the cancelled cruise, as well as any applicable bonuses or incentives.
  • Rebooking: Carnival may provide the option to rebook your cruise on an alternative sailing. This allows you to transfer your booking to a different departure date or itinerary, accommodating your travel plans at a later time. Depending on the availability of cabins and the price of the new cruise, Carnival may offer incentives or adjustments to make the rebooking process more appealing.
  • Additional Compensation: In certain situations, Carnival may extend additional compensation to passengers affected by a cancelled cruise. This can include discounts on future cruises, onboard credits, or other perks to offset any inconvenience or disappointment caused by the cancellation.

It is important to review the specific terms and conditions of your booking and the cancellation policy in order to understand the exact options and eligibility for refunds and compensation. This will help you make informed decisions regarding the next steps to take.

If you had booked your cruise through a travel agent, it is advisable to contact them directly to discuss the available options and coordinate any necessary changes or refunds. They can provide guidance and assist you in navigating through the process.

Remember to keep any relevant documentation, such as booking confirmations, emails, or invoices, as they may be required when discussing refunds and compensation with Carnival or your travel agent.

With the refund and compensation options in mind, the next section will delve into the rebooking process and explore the possibility of using a Future Cruise Credit for a Carnival cruise in the future.

Rebooking or Future Cruise Credit

When Carnival cancels your cruise, one of the options they may offer is the opportunity to rebook your cruise on an alternative sailing. This allows you to transfer your existing booking to a different departure date or itinerary, ensuring that you can still experience the joy of cruising with Carnival.

Rebooking gives you the flexibility to choose a new cruise that fits your schedule and preferences. It allows you to maintain your original investment and potentially even take advantage of any booking incentives or promotions that may be available for the new sailing. Carnival will work with you to find a suitable alternative cruise, taking into consideration your travel plans, cabin preferences, and other factors.

Another option that Carnival may provide is a Future Cruise Credit (FCC). This credit is a monetary value issued to you as compensation for the cancelled cruise. It can be used towards a future Carnival cruise of your choice. The value of the FCC typically includes the full amount you paid for the cancelled cruise, along with any applicable bonuses or incentives.

The Future Cruise Credit gives you the freedom to explore other Carnival itineraries and sailings at a later time. You can use the credit to book a new cruise that aligns with your preferred dates and destinations. It’s worth noting that the terms and conditions of the Future Cruise Credit, such as expiration dates and any limitations on its use, may vary, so it’s important to review and understand the specific details provided by Carnival.

To take advantage of the rebooking or Future Cruise Credit options, you’ll need to contact Carnival directly or work through your travel agent. They will guide you through the process, assist with selecting a new sailing, and ensure that any credits or adjustments are properly applied to your new booking.

Whether you choose to rebook or utilize a Future Cruise Credit, both options allow you to maintain your enthusiasm for cruising and give you the chance to plan and look forward to a future Carnival adventure.

Now that we’ve explored the potential options for rebooking and using a Future Cruise Credit, let’s discuss some strategies for effectively dealing with a cancelled Carnival cruise.

Carnival Cruise Cancellation Policy (3 Different Options!)

Explore Carnival Cruise cancellation policy: 3 clear options for refunds & penalties. Ideal for travelers planning with flexibility. Learn more now!

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

Carnival Cruise is a popular cruise line with trips around the world available to its clients! Booking a cruise can be exciting, but sometimes plans do not go as smoothly as you would prefer. Cancellation policies can help you decide which trips to book and show you what you could back if you need a refund for your vacation. Carnival Cruise has a pretty straightforward cancellation policy!

Carnival Cruise has three tiers to its cancellation policy. The first is if you cancel before the final payment, where you will receive no penalty. The second is canceling after the final payment, where you will be penalized based on how close you cancel to the start of the trip. Finally, if you cancel a trip booking with a special offer, your refund options vary.

There are different penalties and refund options for these different tiers. The Carnival Cruise cancellation policy can feel a bit confusing and overwhelming. Follow along to learn about the other cancellation options with this cruise line. As well as the various processes to expect if you need to cancel your trip.

What is Carnival Cruise's Cancellation Policy?

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

The cancellation policy for Carnival cruise may feel overwhelming but is based on the time you cancel in relation to the beginning of your booking. Much like with other reservation companies, cancellations closer to your reservation are less likely to be refunded in full.  There are two main tiers to the cancellation policy for typical cruises.

First is for those who cancel before the final payment, or roughly 90 days before the reservation. Here you will get a full refund for your cruise. For those who cancel after the final payment, the refund and fee breakdown varies depending on the proximity to the upcoming trip. We will break these details down in the next section. Finally, it should be noted that special offers or deals rarely adhere to this standard structure.

This is the simple breakdown of Carnival Cruise's cancellation policy, however, there are a few more details that pertain to each situation.  We will simplify them as much as possible. If you have more questions or a particular case it is best to speak with a Carnival Cruise representative!

What are the Carnival Cruise's Cancellation Options?

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

Carnival Cruises' cancellation options are solely based on the time you cancel in proximity to the date your cruise leaves.  So there are not necessarily cancellation options, but tiers set of how much of a refund you can expect. The closer to your reservation that you cancel, the more fees you face and the less money you receive back.

You are allowed a 24-hour free cancellation policy, as mandated by law. But beyond that point, you will fit into two main categories, before and after the final payment. If you book with a special promotion, the cancellation policy differs slightly. However, the main date to keep in mind is 90 days before your cruise. That is the cut-off for full refunds and anything after that will face fees.

Cancelling Before the Final Payment

This is the most simple and convent tier of Carnival Cruises' cancellation policy.  If you cancel before you make your final payment, then you are likely to get a full refund . This tends to be about 3 months before you set sail, so you may want to mark that in your calendar just in case.

If you booked a very short cruise, your deadline will be later than a longer cruise. For cruises less than five days, the final payment date is 75 days before sailing. Whereas cruises are 6 days or more, the final payment date is 90 days prior to sailing.  Meaning if you booked a 3 or 4-day cruise than you will have a few more weeks to cancel and get the full refund!

However, if the cruise you booked was of a specific promotion it may be non-refundable for both the deposit and the fare.  So it is great to keep a look out for this if you find an amazing deal but are not sure on if you will be able to make the trip.

Your best chance at getting the most money back is to cancel your cruise at least three months or 90 days before you are supposed to set sail.  You will not face any stiff cancellation fees and have the best chance to get all your money back. This is the best idea regardless of the length of the trip. If you cancel after these dates, then you will face the fees outlined in the next section.

Cancelling After Final Payment

If you need to cancel after the final payment date, you will find a structured penalty system that will deduct from your refund.  Once final payment has been made, cancellation penalties do apply and increase as the departure date approaches. It is best to pull out a calendar and see what penalties you will face depending on when you cancel your cruise.

The first tier is between 89 and 56 days prior to your sailing date, between 12 and 8 weeks of your departure.  Here the penalty is only your standard deposit amount.  The rest of your money will be returned to you if you cancel within these margins.

Next is from 55 days prior to sailing to 30 days prior to sailing.  Between 8 and 4 weeks, the penalty for your cancellation will be 50% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount.  Whichever amount is greater is the fee you will need to pay, with the rest being refunded.

Then there is the tier between 29 to 15 days prior to sailing.  At this point, your fee will be 75% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount, whichever is greater.  This is because it will be more difficult to fill your spot canceling this late.

The final tier is between 14 days and 0 days before sailing to the day of the cruise. Now the penalty is 100% of the total fare. You will not receive your fare returned, but extra packages you may have booked will be.  You will receive no refunds if you are a no show to the reservation.

It should be noted that when calculating the number of days prior to the cruise, the day of sailing is considered the first day of the cruise. If you need to cancel your Carnival Cruise you should do it sooner rather than later. Even after the final payment deadline, you will receive more of a refund the sooner you make the cancellation.

Special Deals

The Early Saver promotion offers great prices to Carnival cruisers.  The company describes it as the lowest available core rate when open. Additionally, these Early Saver promotions provide price protection for up to 2 business days prior to sailing! However, with this promotion, the deposit is non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.

The Early Saver cruise prices are available up to 76 days prior to sailing for short cruises (5 days or shorter) and up to 91 days prior to sailing for long cruises (6 days and longer). Meaning they are available up until the typical final cancellation dates, so there is not much opportunity to get a refund.

If you do book an Early Saver promotion and need to cancel before the final payment, you will be able to get a cruise credit.  The credit is a non-refundable and non-transferable future cruise credit (FCC). Which comes with a $50 per person service fee. You must use this credit within 12 months from the date of cancellation. You can only use this credit with cruise fares and any unused portion will be forfeited.

Another type of promotion is the Super Saver, which can be priced lower than the Early Saver! Unfortunately, it does come with more restrictions. For example, you will not be able to select your cabin with this promotion. The deposit is also non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.

Finally, there are the Pack and Go promotions!  Pack and Go are the last-minute deals available on the cruise line’s website and are great for spontaneous travelers!  However, it does mean these bookings have an even more restrictive policy than Early or Super Savers. You will not be able to customize your package too much and can expect that 100% of the total fare will not be non-refundable any time after the booking is made. So be sure of your trip before you pay for these deals!

How Late Can I Cancel a Cruise?

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

You can cancel a Carnival Cruise reservation at any time!  There is no restriction on when you can no longer cancel your reservation. However, if you cancel after 14 days before the cruise launches then you will receive no refunds.

One of the worst things you can do is simply not show up to the cruise. You will get none of your money back and it puts the cruise line in a poor situation.  Canceling as early as you can help both yourself and Carnival Cruises immensely, so take action as soon as you can!

There are no fees for canceling before 90 days from your reservation date. After that, the fees increase as the cruise date approaches. But you are not allowed to cancel, you just will not get all of your money back.

To simply break down these fees after the final payment date, take a look here!  This is a quick table to see the fees you would face if you cancel after your final payment:

  • 91 days: you will only need to pay $100 per person
  • 61 to 90 days: you must pay 50% of your gross fare
  • 31 to 60 days: 75% gross fare
  • 0 30 days: you must pay 100% of gross fare

How Long Does It Take For Carnival Cruise's Refund?

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

Generally speaking, it can take 90 days or more to process a cruise refund.  There is no need to stress if the refund does not return within a few days. This can be for a variety of reasons, but the processing of your request and the transferring of money between accounts tend to take some time. However, it can be frustrating that this processing time does tend to be longer than others.

It is possible to contact a Carnival Cruise representative to try and speed up the process.  It is never a guarantee. With others trying for refunds as well, these phone lines may be busy and exhausting. Both for the representatives and clients themselves. But a calm tone and a few kind words can increase your chances of getting your refund sooner!

You may see a refund before these 90 days, but it is not likely. Patience is the best method after canceling your Carnival Cruise reservation, and it could help you get your refund faster. So do not stress and take it easy, vacation style!

Here is a simple summary of the Carnival Cruise cancellation policy!  The most simple option is to cancel before the final payment date.  Which is between 75 and 90 before the cruise takes off, depending on the length of the cruise. This is the easiest way to get your money back without a large penalty. Otherwise, you will find a bit more hassle and more fees.

The second most important point is if you cancel 14 days before the cruise, then you will face a 100% fare penalty . Unless there is a large weather disturbance or global pandemic, you will see stiff fees for canceling close to the cruise date.  Finally, the cancellation process can take roughly 90 days to process the refund.  So do not be concerned when the refund does not immediately appear in your account!

This is the basic information that you will likely run into if you need to cancel a Carnival Cruise. If you are needing to cancel for a special reason or do not sit within these outlines, then it is best to contact the company. A representative will be able to explain the information you need in more detail, but hopefully, this article gives you a great understanding!

Carnival Cruise Cancellations and Refund Policies

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

The refund policies of Carnival Cruise Line are determined by the length of the cruise, your selected fare, and the remaining time until your sailing date.

More inflexible refund policies apply to cruises with special pricing. Carnival Cruise Line typically responds to refund requests on special prices by offering the guest Future Cruise Credits instead of a full refund.

The refund policies of cruises that Carnival Cruise Line cancels entail the added benefit of onboard credit for those who choose the Future Cruise Credit option instead of a full refund. Information regarding the cancellation policy will be communicated directly to each guest and available on the Carnival Cruise Line website.

Carnival Cruise Line Refund Policies

Covid-19 refund policies.

Carnival Cruise Line has not released defined refund policies regarding Covid-19, but the ticket contract does stipulate that Carnival reserves the right to refuse guests to board if they are unfit for travel without providing them with a refund if information regarding their test results was not provided.

Price Guarantees

Carnival Cruise Line offers a guaranteed lower price on a cruise fare during the first 48 hours after making a cruise booking. There may be a difference of 110% between the cruise fare you paid and the fare you later discover, which Carnival will refund as an onboard credit.

Cruise Cancellation Policy

Carnival issues full refunds for cruise tickets canceled more than 75 nights before the sailing date of short cruises and more than 90 nights before the sailing date on extended cruises. However, cancellation fees apply to cancellations made within those dates.

Cruises Cancelled by Carnival Cruise Line

If Carnival cancels a cruise, full refunds are issued along with an additional option of Future Cruise Credit with onboard credit. Drink packages and Wifi purchases are fully refunded via the same payment means used to purchase the tickets.

File:Carnival-Freedom-Cruise-Ship.jpg

Significant Dates

The full refund period coincides with the final payment date, which is 75 days prior to sailing for cruises of between two and five days, and 90 days prior to sailing for 6-night or longer cruises.

Cruise Cancellations

Cancellation fees are demanded based on the amount of time between the cancellation and the sailing date. You effectively lose your deposit if you cancel a cruise between the final payment date and 56 days before the sailing date.

If you cancel between 55 days and 30 days prior to sailing, you lose a large portion of your deposit or 50% of the cruise fare. If you cancel between 29 days and 15 days prior to the sailing date, you lose a large portion of your deposit or 75% of the total cruise fare.

For cancellations made within two weeks of the sailing date, except for mid-cruise cancellations and no-shows, you will only receive refunds for fees, taxes, port charges, and pre-paid purchases.

If Carnival Cancels a Cruise

Guests have a period of 24 months to receive their onboard credit and six months to book another cruise when Carnival Cruise Line cancels a cruise. Full refunds in monetary form may take up to three months to be issued.

Free photos of Meeting

Future Cruise Credit

Future Cruise Credit (FCC) is issued based on the cruise fare paid on the date of cancellation. For instance, if a guest has paid the full amount for a cruise by the time of cancellation, they will receive Future Cruise Credit for the amount they paid. Future Cruise Credits will be issued according to the amount paid if only a deposit has been finalized.

Cruise Cancellation

A Future Cruise Credit is issued for Early Saver cancellations minus a service fee of $50 for cancellations made before the final payment date. Any unused portion of the credit will be lost, and the credit must be used on a new booking within a year of cancellation. This policy applies to cruises that will sail within two years of the cancellation date.

If Future Cruise Credit is chosen instead of a full refund for cruises that Carnival Cruise Line cancels, an expiration date applies, which is typically two years from the date of cancellation.

Carnival will always communicate this with every guest. If onboard credit in addition to Future Cruise Credit is offered, it will depend on acceptance from the guest. For instance, if Carnival cancels a cruise in March of 2021, the cruise line requires guests to book a new cruise by the end of September of the same year to be eligible for the bonus offer.

Carnival Cruise Line Fine Print

Cruise cancellation.

Non-refundable tickets include deposits made on the Early Saver program of Carnival Cruise Line. Cruise fares on pack-and-go tickets are also non-refundable.

A different set of cancellation policies apply to the Fly2Fun fares of Carnival Cruise Line. For up to 60 days before the flight, the Flexible Airfare is refundable. Non-refundable airfare further includes the Restricted Air option.

Cruise bookings made outside Canada or the U.S. may be associated with different refund policies, which can be found on the ticket contract of the cruise received when you book.

The opportunity to choose either a full refund or Future Cruise Credits is available to each reservation, meaning traveling companions who initially booked the same stateroom don’t have to choose the same option. However, each guest is required to choose either a full refund or Future Cruise Credit (FCC).

Regardless of whether you or Carnival Cruise Line cancel a cruise, every guest must cancel any additional travel arrangements with the appropriate third party.

Canceling a Cruise Due to Covid-19

Covid-19, unfortunately, remains a topic of concern in the cruise industry, and testing positive for Covid-19 will mean you can’t board your cruise. Luckily the cruise line’s cancellation policies address this issue by including measures to prevent guests from being maltreated.

Guests are entitled to a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) based on the paid amount if their traveling companions assigned to the same stateroom or family members living in the same household as the guests test positive for Covid-19 and are forced to cancel their cruise. This policy applies for cancellations made within ten days before the sailing day.

Guests are also eligible to receive Future Cruise Credits if they report being in close contact with someone expected to have Covid-19 within ten days before the ship sails. Similarly, if a guest is deemed unfit to travel by Carnival Cruise Line due to a suspected or confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis, they will also receive Future Cruise Credits.

Policy Conditions

  • Guests must notify Carnival Cruise Line within a day of testing positive for Covid-19 to qualify for Future Cruise Credits.
  • All of the following must be included in a provided test result: Full name, birth date, test type, laboratory name, time sample was provided, healthcare provider details, testing site, and a clear indication that the person tested positive.
  • All guests are required to present a verified positive test result in a form acceptable to the cruise line, including a digital certificate, a laboratory test record, or a healthcare record.
  • Unacceptable forms of test results include photographs and handwritten test results.

Note that particular shore excursions will entail varying policies regarding Covid-19. Therefore, all cruisers are advised to stay up to date on the latest cruise news and research the ship’s itinerary to avoid running into issues at the ports.

Cruise Travel Insurance

Many companies and independent advisors, such as travel agents, offer insurance products. Additionally, Carnival Cruise Line also urges guests to make use of its customer insurance program called Carnival Vacation Protection.

This insurance relates to cancellations and covers the common causes of cancellations, including diseases and dangerous weather. Carnival Vacation Protection ensures that guests will get all their money back.

If guests cancel for reasons unlisted in the provided insurance plan, 75% of the cruise fare will be refunded in the form of an FCC certificate.

Policies on Delays

There are many instances where guests don’t make it to the cruise terminal in time due to delayed flights. Unfortunately, Carnival Cruise Line will not refund your ticket for a cruise departing without you.

The cruise line does, however, keep your reservation for up to two hours before the check-in time. Therefore, Carnival always recommends buying interruption and cancellation insurance in case something comes up, as you will not be reimbursed for delays.

Current Cancellation Policy?

What is the current cancellation policy for Carnival.  We are due to cruise in early October on the Panorama.  My sailing partner and I are both vaccinated.

But I worry about the Delta variant since I care for my elderly mother and watch my unvaccinated grandchildren a few times a week.

I just transferred my September cruise to October 2022.  They transferred everything including my OBC.

Only waited 5 minutes on hold!

We are scheduled to cruise Thanksgiving week and I tried to cancel and move the funds to another booking I have for next summer but I couldn't without penalties because November hasn't been announced yet.  I think you should be able to cancel and move funds or get a refund with no issues except a possible wait on hold.  The Carnival rep told me once November protocols are announced if it's the same case as now (I figure it will be) I will be able to move everything then with no penalties so that's what I'm doing for now......

Did they keep your rates? Was your OBC for a cancelled cruise or just part of your offer? I am thinking of canceling my November cruise. I'd love to just move it however the rates I booked at were so good I'd be paying much more now on top of losing $500 OBC. I plan on calling once they release November restrictions (assuming they are the same as they currently are). We just got back from an Alaska cruise-it was WONDERFUL however the hubby didn't love dealing with the facemask requirements in the cooler weather and has no desire to in the heat:(

We are scheduled for Sep 26 out of New Orleans, I logged in and it says I would take a hit of 80% if I cancel, with all that's going on between the new variant and now the pounding in new Orleans, shouldn't I be able to move my cruise without any penalties?

Yes just call and you can cancel or move your cruise. Online if you cancel regular penalties apply. Call.

They ,in reality, cancel your cruise and rebook you. So the only thngs that carry forward are the things you prepaid. Example: gratuities, insurance, etc.

You're right! How I forgot that I don't know! It was the most important item!!

Thanks for that

If I don't know when I want to rebook for, will they just save the credit in my account?  Or is it best I book a different cruise when I call?  Are they offering full refunds by chance?

Yes, they should offer you a full refund, but then you would lose any OBC that you might have.  If you're going to be possibly looking at a sailing on one of the two Excel ships, I would book it now since the pricing is only going to go up.

Just booked a spa cove balcony on Celebration for $959. These prices won’t be there long.

Decided to cancel last Saturday for October 3rd cruise. Request handled very well by CCL rep. Given a full refund, no hassle at all. Then the next day received an email stating that our excursion was also canceled and we would be getting a full refund for that as well.

Everything well done from CCL.

Carnival cancels 2 planned cruises from Port Canaveral after ship catches fire

Passengers on a Carnival cruise ship that caught fire over the weekend disembarked at Port Canaveral on Monday.

▶ WATCH CHANNEL 9 EYEWITNESS NEWS

Videos sent to Ch. 9 show dark smoke and flames coming from the Carnival Freedom’s exhaust funnel on Saturday.

Carnival says lightning may be to blame.

In response to this fire, the next two cruises on the ship have been canceled.

Read: 2 crew members killed on Holland America cruise ship during incident onboard

The ship was scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on Monday, and then again on Friday.

The fire was reported while the ship was near the Bahamas.

Passengers reported seeing lightning strike the boat, but the investigation is still underway.

Read: New cruise line coming to Port Canaveral this year

Carnival Cruise Lines released the following statement:

Carnival Freedom experienced a fire in the port side of the exhaust funnel on Saturday. Our onboard team acted quickly to contain and put out the fire. While we continue to investigate multiple eyewitness reports of a lightning strike, our technical team completed a thorough assessment during the ship’s visit to Freeport today. Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral.

The funnel has been stabilized for the ship’s return to Port Canaveral overnight to disembark guests, and then it will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday afternoon to begin the required repairs.

We sincerely regret the impact to our embarking guests, as we know they have been looking forward to their spring break vacation. We are providing all guests on both cancelled cruises a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit so they can come back and enjoy a future cruise with us. We also greatly appreciate the terrific guests who are currently sailing with us, for their outstanding cooperation and support.

Carnival Puts Miami Headquarters Up for Sale as Florida Real Estate Soars

carnival cruise weather cancellation policy

Carnival Corp. has listed for sale its sprawling headquarters on the outskirts of Miami, seeking to cash in on real estate the cruise giant has owned for roughly three decades.

The company is now looking to downsize to about 300,000 square feet (27,871 square meters) of new office space in the Miami area, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named citing private discussions.

Carnival expects to remain at its current headquarters in the city of Doral for the next two years. The building dates back to the 1980s and encompasses 470,000 square feet. A spokesperson confirmed that the firm is “exploring options for new office facilities.”

Carnival hired brokerage Cushman & Wakefield Plc to handle the sale, a spokesperson for the brokerage confirmed, declining to add further details. The last recorded sale of the property dates back to 1983, when it was acquired for $16.6 million.

The decision to sell reflects a broader trend of companies reevaluating their office space needs in the post-pandemic era. While some tenants are looking to upgrade their facilities to entice employees back to the office, others are downsizing to reduce costs.

For Carnival, the sale is a chance to unlock a potential windfall from decades of real estate growth in Doral, where property values have soared alongside the area’s condo boom and the popularity of Donald Trump’s Blue Monster golf course. But it will also mean the company will be navigating a red-hot market to find new office space in the Miami region.

Currently, Carnival’s Doral headquarters is about 15 miles away on gridlocked highways from the port of Miami, where Carnival ships dock.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., which unlike Carnival is based inside the port, has recently broken ground on a new 10-story headquarters building in the vicinity. MSC Cruises SA, which is building a new cruise terminal at the port, said it will move its US headquarters to a downtown Miami office building near the port as well.

Carnival’s move to upgrade its headquarters underscores how well the cruise industry has done in recent years. Carnival, one of the largest cruise companies in the world, has seen bookings bounce back to a record since the pandemic. The company has 120,000 employees globally and serves about 13 million cruise vacationers per year.
