50 Cent Commemorates 20 Years of Getting Rich, Not Dying With Final Lap Tour

By Kory Grow

To commemorate two full decades of sipping Bacardí with shorties on their birthdays, 50 Cent will embark on the Final Lap Tour 2023 , marking the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough record, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ . Busta Rhymes and Jeremih will open all the North American dates. The trek kicks off in July and runs through September before 50 Cent takes the show to Europe.

Tickets will be available to participants in Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program on May 10. Concertgoers can register now through May 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Tickets will then officially go on sale to everyone on May 12.

While Bacardí might be the focus of Get Rich or Die Tryin’s “In da Club,” the liquor 50 Cent will likely be more excited about on the tour is his own Sire Spirits brands, Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi Champagne. Tour promoter Live Nation is highlighting Sire Spirits as a show of support for Black-owned brands.

50 Cent Celebrates His Legacy With An Outstanding Hip-Hop Spectacle On "The Final Lap" Tour

With performances from Jeremih and Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent's The Final Lap tour celebrates an unmatched 20-year tenure in hip-hop.

50 Cent Performs At Ball Arena

In 2003, 50 Cent emerged as a tyrant in hip–hop with the release of Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ . Already established as a rebel in his own right, the industry blacklisted him prior to its release. A deal with Columbia Records fell through. Meanwhile, songs like “How To Rob” and “Ghetto Quran” established 50 Cent as a forceful MC that wouldn't hold his sharp tongue against heavyweights. Although his career hit a brick wall, his resilience and hunger caught the attention of Dr. Dre and Eminem. And maybe without those two, we wouldn’t be celebrating one of the greatest hip-hop albums 20 years later.

The Final Lap tour appears to be 50 Cent’s final full-fledged trek on the road. The past decade hasn't seen him releasing much music but his television empire has grown exponentially. Marking the 20th anniversary of Get Rich Or Die Tryin ’ and coinciding with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, The Final Lap tour has been nothing short of a spectacle; a time capsule that revisits 20 years of heat, from defining singles found on his chart-topping debut and sophomore releases to deep cuts that only his day-one fans can appreciate. With opening acts Pressa, Jeremih, and Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent celebrates his own contributions to the culture.

The opening acts all hold a place in 50 Cent’s heart to some capacity. The connection to Pressa seems to have developed more recently. Pressa’s appearance on stage, alongside WhyG and Bundog, suggests that 50 Cent’s cooking up something in the 6ix. Tony Yayo hasn't shied away from expressing his appreciation for BunDog and Pressa in recent times, either. However, it strongly indicates that 50 Cent and Tony Yayo have taken the budding Toronto star under his wing. It's an impeccable feat for Pressa, who has the bragging rights of touring with 50 Cent and Drake.

Jeremih’s Return

There might not be another R&B artist whose influence is as understated as Jeremih. The Chicago-born’s catalog speaks for itself but in the past few years, his presence hasn’t been as consistent. A serious and highly publicized bout with COVID-19 left him re-learning how to walk. Three years later, he made his triumphant comeback to the stage. His set brought fans through a decade-plus-worth of hits that sent a wave of nostalgia through the crowd.

Backed by a DJ and two scantily-dressed pole dancers, Jeremih’s strain of futuristic stripper-friendly R&B anthems received its proper visual accompaniment. Jeremih’s sheer presence took command of the Bell Centre. Through each song, the crowd’s enthusiasm grew, eventually building up to songs like “Oui,” “Planez,” and of course, “Birthday Sex.” After not being on the road for a few years, Jeremih’s catalog shines from night to night. He's opening up in front of an audience of hardcore hip-hop fans. Even so, his sultry and airy vocals take control of the room.

Busta Rhymes & Spliff Starr Set The Stage Ablaze

With a career spanning 30 years, Busta Rhymes’ is the definition of a timeless act. When he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 BET Awards, he admitted that he never had a desire to be a solo artist while a member of Leaders Of The New School. It’s ironic, considering that his star power shone brighter than any one of his group mates. Busta Rhymes and Spliff Starr’s live performance remains one of hip-hop’s greatest acts by a landslide. Without gimmicks, the strength of Busta’s hits, bolstered by his chemistry and synchronicity with Spliff Starr, make for a dynamic performance. Busta said it best: “We don’t need no special effects. We are the special effects.”

Busta’s dramatic intro kicks off with a WWE-like monologue, courtesy of Spliff Starr. Busta’s throne rotates as he joins his hypeman with high energy with M.O.P.’s “Ante Up (Remix).” The coordination between the two boils down to the details, with choreographed moves executed throughout the set.

Busta Rhymes’ grip on the rap game from the late 90s to the 2000s was on full display. He went through classics like the funky, "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See." Later, he'd demand the women serenade him with Mariah Carey 's hook on the uber-sensual, “I Know What You Want." Of course, it wouldn't be a Busta show without performing "Break Your Neck."

Although the last bit of his set felt abrupt, it became more personal. Busta and Spliff Starr would dive into records, some unreleased, before cutting them off before the hook came in. For example, Busta began performing "Touch It" and cut off the record before reaching the hook. The reason? He's afforded that right through his 30+ year tenure in hip-hop.

Still, it’s quite clear that one of Busta’s most mesmerizing moments as an MC only occurred within the past 12 years. He still raps his verse on Chris Brown ’s “Look At Me" without skipping a beat. It's truly a testament to a man who has mastered his craft. At 51 years old, Busta Rhymes's breath control is giving every MC in the game a run for their money. Before Busta left the stage, he had already shown us exactly why he’s feared in the Verzuz space .

50 Cent Revisits His Heyday

50 Cent’s assumed the role of an elder statesman in hip-hop these days. His proximity to the music industry has largely consisted of the mentorship he provides to the younger generation. However, 50 Cent's The Final Lap tour almost feels like a bid farewell for a titan in the rap industry. Joined by Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda as his faithful hypemen, 50 Cent implemented the precise choreography of a pop artist to bring fans through a journey of his greatest hits.

The elaborate stage setup included an extended platform that split the floor seats. Behind him were screens plastered from the top to the bottom of the stage. Joined by a DJ and a full band, who performed from an elevated platform, as well as a whole dance squad, 50 Cent created a Vegas-like atmosphere, where the lights, confetti, and pyrotechnics amplified the nostalgia of his unmatched run in the early 2000s. The screens behind them amplified the feeling of the East Coast as animated replicas of New York brownstone buildings and the city skyline displayed through records like “I Get Money” and “Hustler’s Ambition”

Although a celebration of the 20-year anniversary of his debut album, 50 Cent proved that his career didn’t necessarily phase out following his sales battle with Kanye West when Curtis dropped. He went across anthems on GRODT, The Massacre , Curtis , and even a few records from the past few years, whether “I’m The Man” or “The Woo,” where he pays homage to his late prodigy, Pop Smoke .

While Fif managed to get through his vast catalog within the first half of the show, he eventually welcomed Jeremih back out on stage where they performed “Down On Me” together and then, allowed the Chicago singer to deliver a gorgeous stripped-down version of “Birthday Sex” on the piano. Afterward, Fif returned to the fold to close out the show, leading up to the extravaganza that accompanied “In Da Club.” But for his encore, 50 Cent dived into the back catalog with anthems like “Wanksta,” “Southside,” and “Poor Lil’ Rich” before finally closing out with, “I’ll Whip Ya Head Boy.”

Final Thoughts

In 2005, a Liberal Member of the Canadian Parliament petitioned to have 50 Cent banned from performing in Canada as a result of his lyrical content, largely the references to guns. Nearly 20 years later, 50 Cent’s The Final Lap tour yields far different results, providing fans with a healthy dose of nostalgia to revisit the early 2000s. No less of a gangster than he was when he came in the door, 50 Cent's ascended to another stratosphere of pop culture. Similarly, his audience has also evolved and matured within the same time frame. The Final Lap tour isn’t necessarily marketed as a 50th Anniversary Of Hip-Hop event but it certainly emphasizes the contributions of two East Coast legends with the support of one of R&B’s finest talents.

Just went to his concert yesterday in Milan, and it is a must see. The effects, the lights, the backgrounds and the crowd all contribute in making this concert magical. 50 still has an amazing even in his late 40s.

After seeing 50 cent guest appearance at an Eminem concert a couple of months ago I was really excited about 50 having his own concert over in the U.K. and had to book it . The night started off with lethal bizzle and he was great gave the crowd a good show then we waited for 50 and g unit 50 was amazing throughout as were g unit all in all was a great night could ov been longer but still walked away happy would definitely pay to see 50 again no question .

It was billed as the 15 year anniversary of the Get Rich Or Die Trying album so was expecting him to play pretty much every track from it but instead he played 30 seconds of a track and then cut it short. He played more of the Uncle Murda and Tony Yayo songs than those on his own album meant to be for this tour.

He was only on for 55 minutes and the crowd booed at the end. Paid £68 for 55 minutes which is an absolute rip off.

50 Cent, Busta Rhymes celebrate generations of rappers ahead of hip-hop's milestone anniversary

50 cent tour with

BROOKLYN, New York – 50 Cent  and Busta Rhymes are bridging the gap between generations of hip-hop .

Thursday night, on the eve of the genre's 50th anniversary, the rappers paid tribute to the past for 50 Cent's The Final Lap Tour — an homage to the 20th anniversary tour of "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" — and showed the future how it's done.

"At midnight tonight, hip-hop turns 50 years old," Busta Rhymes (real name Trevor George Smith Jr.), a Brooklyn native, said to a roaring crowd at Barclays Center. "Can you believe this? 50 years old. At midnight."

The moment proved to be extra emotional as an audience mostly decked out in New York-branded apparel celebrated hip-hop's anniversary a few boroughs away from the genre's birthplace.

50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) played into the nostalgia of the crowd with favorites from his debut album including "In Da Club," "21 Questions," "P.I.M.P.," What Up Gangsta" and "Many Men (Wish Death)" as smoke, fire and sparks were set off on stage.

Several of the songs reference his upbringing in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York, and 50 Cent paid homage with a digital set showing brownstone buildings, the Queens Plaza Station stop on the subway and bodegas.

50 Cent, 48, had the energy and charm you'd expect from his 20s when he released "Get Rich or Die Tryin,'" proving that rappers have the same vocal longevity as pop stars.

The Queens rapper offered the glitz in the form of pricey jewelry and his troop of background dancers added the glam. For his raunchier numbers, the dancers sauntered across the stage and flexed their athleticism from the poles to a synchronized chair dance.

50 Cent later diverted from his debut with hits "Hate It or Love It," "Candy Shop," "This Is How We Do," and more, with the help of Uncle Murda and G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo.

Speaking to USA TODAY in May, 50 Cent promised his tour was going to get into some of his less popular songs. "Sometimes out of habit, you go to certain records. People love other things on it, so I want to make sure I touch those records before I don’t do those anymore," he said.

On Thursday, he delivered, separating fans of his popular music from die-hards as he got into "Hustler's Ambition," "Soldier," "Gotta Make It to Heaven," "Southside," "In My Hood" and more.

The rapper's set was loaded, as were his guest appearances.

Fat Joe, Young M.A, Bobby Shmurda, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, PHresher and 50 Cent's tour opener Jeremih took the stage throughout his set. 50 Cent also paid tribute to Pop Smoke , performing his verse of the late Brooklyn rapper's post-humous song "The Woo."

Busta Rhymes brings out Lola Brooke, Remy Ma and Scar Lip

Prior to the headlining performance, Busta Rhymes, 51, upped the ante with an explosive set.

The rapper and his longtime collaborator Spliff Star had the stadium holding their breath as they tackled "Touch It," "Pass the Courvoisier, Part II," "I Know What You Want" and more with hardly any breaks.

His set also included tributes to the birthplace of hip-hop in the form of younger talent.

Brooklyn's Lola Brooke joined Busta Rhymes on stage to rap her hit "Don't Play With It," Harlem rapper Scar Lip kept the crowd in line with her song "This Is New York" and Bronx legend Remy Ma spit her verse in M.O.P.'s "Ante Up" remix, which also features Busta Rhymes.

If there's one message 50 Cent communicated Thursday night: hip-hop is the past, present and future.

If you don't get Monaleo, she says you're not listening: ‘It really gets under my skin’

Young Buck Is Open to Reuniting With 50 Cent and G-Unit for a Tour

Young Buck  has expressed his genuine openness to reuniting with  50 Cent  and  G-Unit  for a potential tour.

During a conversation with  The Ed Clay Show , the Nashville, Tennessee native shared an in-depth reflection on his feud with 50 and G-Unit that began in 2008. He revealed that a change of heart, cultivated during his time in prison, was the catalyst for a potential reunion.

"50 started to see the big picture of us coming back together, and he greenlighted everything, and the reunion started, and we was looking to move forward," Buck said at around the 34:40 mark. "From there, everything was going well, and out of nowhere, you know, start dealing with different issues and different things, and he was having different issues with different individuals within the group and it all fell apart again."

Despite the ups and downs, Buck expressed gratitude for his time with 50 Cent and G-Unit, acknowledging the "opportunity" 50 gave him to share his music with the world. He also acknowledged the strained state of his relationship with 50, revealing that they haven't communicated in years.

Things have been said and done on both sides, and 50's antics on social media have made their issues even more complex. But Buck is still open to some type of reunion with his former groupmates.

"Could I come back to G-Unit and tour or get money together? Yeah, I'm open for that," Buck said at around the 37:00 mark. "In regards to me signing to the label and stuff like that? I think that's a little bit farfetched right now. I'm focused on Cashville Records."

Young Buck's journey with G-Unit Records began in 2003, when he joined the group and made several appearances on their debut album, Beg For Mercy . He then ventured into his solo career, releasing his label debut,  Straight Outta Cashville , which made a notable debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Things went awry in 2008 when 50 kicked him out of the group for making off-the-hand comments but retracted them in private. The feud intensified when Buck released a diss track aimed at his former groupmates, and 50 retaliated by releasing a phone conversation in which Buck was emotional and asked the G-Unit leader for advice.

G-Unit had a brief reunion in 2014 when they released The Beauty of Independence and The Beast Is G Unit in 2015 with the addition of Kidd Kidd as a new member.

In January of this year, 50  issued an apology to anyone he's offended in the past  with an Instagram post that read, "Hey if I have offended you in anyway, I like to apologize. GLG GreenLightGang we can get more done together, why we work against each other."

50's post came after Buck did an interview where he called him out over their drama and his contract with G-Unit, which he said was one of the reasons behind his financial issues.

"I don't know what I did to dude to make him actually wanna see me not feed my children and stuff like that," Buck said on the podcast. "50's his own person and stuff like that but I wouldn't ever wish death or wanna not see him be able to feed his family."

Later, he added, "It's just like, you're rich, my man. You're still doing your thing. I love your TV show  Power , you know what I mean? Why are you doing this to me? We were once brothers."

50 Cent Trolls Diddy With Deep Fake of Donald Trump Mentioning R. Kelly and Meek Mill: ‘This Is F*cked Up’

50 Cent seemingly denied that he had any involvement in making it.

50 Cent threw shots at Diddy , Meek Mill , and R. Kelly via a Donald Trump deepfake on Instagram.

On the heels of Diddy's estates in Los Angeles and Miami being raided on Monday afternoon, Fifty's Instagram followers anticipated a comical post from the rapper-mogul, and he didn't disappoint.

But surprisingly, the post didn't include shots or footage of Diddy, but instead, a deepfake Trump sounding off on the Bad Boy Records founder and using the N-word.

"Puffy, Puffy, Puffy, you stupid ass n****. I told you stop fucking with R. Kelly. I said, ‘Grab them in the pussy . Don’t kidnap the pussy," the faux-Trump says in the clip. "They raided your shit, I see. I got a courtesy call when they raided my house. You really fucked up, my n****."

"Trump" continued with an inappropriate request for Diddy, asking, “Can I get a copy of the Meek Mill sex tape ? Please, n****a."

View this photo on Instagram

But per his Instagram caption, 50 Cent denied that he created the deepfake. "The world’s almost over 🤷🏽‍♂️so what are we worried about," he wrote. "Who ever made this is fvcked up. I think Trumps gonna be president again, but I’m not gonna say that 🥹"

The continued trolling comes shortly after Fif posted the news of Diddy's raids, speculating that Brother Love has a major case on his hands. "Now it’s not Diddy do it, it’s Diddy done. They don’t come like that unless they got a case," the "21 Questions" artist wrote.

The raids, conducted by Homeland Security, took place amid a reported sex trafficking investigation. Although it's unspecified whether Diddy, born Sean Combs, was at either residence at the time, his sons, King and Justin Combs, were handcuffed at Diddy's Los Angeles residence. According to reports from TMZ , Diddy's private jet (LoveAir LLC) was located in Antiqua at the time of the raids, while a person who appeared to be Diddy was seen outside Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport at 6 p.m. ET on Monday.

50 cent files us$6m case against beam suntory.

Just months after Diageo settled out of court an acrimonious legal battle with rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, another of the global drinks giants is being sued by a music artist and drinks entrepreneur.

50 cent tour with

Rapper and media celebrity Curtis Jackson, otherwise known as 50 Cent, has filed a US$6 million embezzlement case against Beam Suntory.

It alleges that owner of the Jim Beam and Makers Mark bourbons was complicit in overcharging his Sire Spirits business for several years. This, he alleges, left him with large losses.

Sire Spirits’ leading brands are Branson Cognac and Le Chemin du Roi Champagne.

It charges that excessive prices were integrated into product prices and that 50 Cent’s business overpaid on various expenses, including taxes, customs, and insurance, totalling around $6 million.

It claims that Julious Grant, Beam’s former chief commercial officer, who left the company in 2019, received an annual payment of $500,000 from Beam Suntory and played a pivotal role in running the scheme that also involved club promoter Michael “Lord Michael” Caruso.

50 Cent believes there was a deliberate attempt to sabotage Sire Spirits because its collapse would have concealed the alleged embezzlement scheme.

“This is the type of stuff that happens and slows down new companies when they’re coming in because I guess it prevents them from growing fast enough,” 50 Cent said in a TV interview.

Beam Suntory rejects the allegations.

It said in a statement: “Beam Suntory vehemently denies all allegations of wrongdoing. It had no involvement in or knowledge of the fraudulent activity alleged in the complaint.

“It is very unfortunate that the parties involved continue to misrepresent the facts and misdirect blame in an attempt to recover fees and damages.”

Earlier this month 50 Cent posted on Instagram: ““@beamsuntory is gonna pay for what they did, trust me. These big companies think they can get away with anything. It has cost me millions in legal fees. They are gonna find out I’m not the one you want to play with”.

He also published on social media a letter purportedly from Beam Suntory to its business affiliates, which he claims was done without his knowledge.

In the caption accompanying the post, he attacked Beam Suntory and called its associates “co-conspirators,” implying their involvement in the alleged scheme.

“This is the letter @beamsuntory sent without my knowledge to the people involved in the scheme that cost me millions.

“Do I really need to hold a press conference to walk everyone through exactly what happened with convicted felon Mitchel E. Green, Julious Grant, Arnaud Fabre and the guy Beam paid millions of dollars to help sell my brands, “Lord Michael” Caruso. This will make a great unscripted project.”

“Now they’re at a point where they’re going to see, everybody’s going to see. This noise affects them, they get really uncomfortable,” he told Fox 5 TV in New York

“People are going to start looking at it, and it’s going to be a mess for them.”

In 2022, Mitchell Green, an employee at Sire Spirits, confessed to wire fraud for his involvement in the embezzlement plot.

As the former brand manager, he acknowledged overpricing certain drinks, resulting in the misappropriation of US$2.2 million. He was sacked and ordered to reimburse the company.

SNYDE | Paul Simon: Short-lived marriage to Carrie Fisher was ‘exhausting’

Paul Simon and Carrie Fisher pose outside of Simon's Manhattan apartment in New York, Aug. 17, 1983, after the couple were married in a private ceremony. The two tied the knot after a five-year romance. (Mario Suriani/AP)

Paul Simon fans are getting a peek behind the curtain of his “exhausting” marriage to the late Carrie Fisher .

The Queens -raised Grammy winner , 82, met the “Star Wars” icon as she was filming the first installment in the franchise. They tied the knot in 1983  and divorced the following summer.

“I mean, what was I thinking? Certainly not thinking about life, you know, that you actually like have to stop,” the Simon & Garfunkel co-founder says in an old interview shown in MGM+’s documentary, “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon.”

Noting that the “When Harry Met Sally” actress “was much more show business-oriented” as the daughter of screen legend Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, Simon said he “went along with that.”

“She was used to it,” he said. “She was used to a lot of press and things like that. It wasn’t intimidating or anything. She knew how to manipulate it and make it work for her. She was really good at it, and I wasn’t.”

The singer-songwriter added that “marriage is … a hard thing to do.

“Not everything can happen at once, not everything is a media event. All types of mistakes on top of mistakes on top of mistakes,” said Simon. “I realized I could become exhausted by — I could exhaust myself from emotional upheaval.”

Divorce was not the end of the road for Simon and Fisher, who spent years in an on-and-off romance.

Fisher, who died after suffering a heart attack before Christmas 2016 ,  was remembered by Simon at the time as “a special, wonderful girl.”

“Yesterday was a horrible day,” he tweeted on the heels of her death. “It’s too soon.”

In 1992, Simon tied the knot with singer Edie Brickell, with whom he shares three adult children. Through her relationship with talent agent Bryan Lourd, Fisher welcomed a daughter,  “Booksmart.” star Billie Lourd.

Simon in the docuseries also details the “recipe for the breakup of Simon & Garfunkel,” ending his lifelong friendship with Art Garfunkel.

Leopard power.

Mel B hasn’t let go of her inner Scary Spice, with the pop star promoting her memoir, “Brutally Honest,” during a slew of recent media appearances wearing several leopard-printed clothing items in recent days.

Arriving at the “Tamron Hall Show” Tuesday morning, the former Spice Girl — whose real name is Melanie Brown — sported a halter top leopard-printed catsuit, paired with a long black fur coat and gold chrome heels.

Brown, 48, exited the “Drew Barrymore Show” later on the same day in a similar getup, this time sporting a floor-length leopard-printed trench coat and the same stilettos.

The ”Wannabe’ singer styled the second look with a black bodysuit and a pair of reflective sunglasses and wore big hoop earrings with her curls up in a high ponytail.

The former “X-Factor” judge has been fully embracing the leopard look, with her back-to-back outfits on Tuesday just the latest in a slew of cat-tastic finds of late.

On Monday, the pop sensation was spotted in New York City sporting another set of statement-making coats, the first shorter leopard-printed coat, which she wore over a long-sleeved blue turtleneck top and knee-high lace-up boots.

Mel B traversed the streets of NYC in a leopard print trench and multicolor white pants. She finished the look with big sunglasses and her hair in a high ponytail.

She also arrived on set of “The View” on March 25 in a different trench coat and matching Christian Louboutin heels.

Despite her dedication to the animal print, none of Brown’s travel outfits were featured during her March 25 appearance on “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” where she jokingly walked off set after being asked about the potential of a Spice Girls reunion tour.

However, she did spill that “us five” — meaning herself, Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) — are currently “working on something that’s going to be announced soon.”
