Honda Civic Cruise Control Not Working: How to Fix

Many Honda Civic owners have heard about the cruise control feature, yet, only a few have used it. If only they know what they are missing. This feature is very useful as it helps you to enjoy controlled speeds while driving.

Cruise control is sometimes referred to as “auto-cruise.” This feature helps you to maintain safe speed levels on the highway. It also ensures easier driving and gives the driver peace of mind. You can turn this feature on and off with the press of a button.

If you are conversant with this feature and use it often, you’d be frustrated when it stops working. You are probably in those shoes right now and wondering what the problem is. Not to worry, we will discuss the possible causes of this problem and show you how to solve it. Let’s get started.

honda civic cruise control not working

Why is My Honda Civic Cruise Control Not Working?

Likely reason 1 – brake pedal switch is faulty, likely reason 2 – speed sensor is damaged, likely reason 3 – blown fuse, likely reason 4 – mechanical damages, test the cruise control feature, check the fuse box under the dashboard, check your clutch switch.

There are times when this feature doesn’t work properly. The normal reaction is to find the nearest mechanic to help fix the issue. Do you know that you can solve most of your cruise control issues on your own? In this section, we will show you how to diagnose the problem with your cruise control feature.

Normally, your brake lights should come on when you step on the brakes. This occurs because of the presence of a “brake pedal switch.” If the lights don’t come on, it could be that the switch is faulty. The challenge with this is that it can also affect the cruise control feature of your Honda Civic.

You must be wondering why this occurs. Is there even a relationship between the brake pedal switch and the cruise control feature? Yes, there is. When you step on the brakes, it shuts down cruise control. As such, when the pedal switch is bad, the feature always thinks that it should operate manually.

It is not difficult to know what the speed sensor is for. Of course, it senses the speed of your car. This means that it can tell how fast your car is traveling. If it is damaged, the speed sensor offers wrong readings or no readings at all. This could be a reason why the cruise control feature is not working.

This is one of the major reasons why your Civic’s cruise control feature is not working. if the feature is controlled electronically, it has an associated fuse attached. The fuse may fail when there is an electrical issue in the car. This happens so that the fuse breaks the circuit to protect the rest of the wiring.

The cruise control feature in some Honda Civics is manual. This means that they have a number of mechanical parts or components. While this system is pretty simple, it can develop faults. For example, the vacuum actuator that connects to the throttle may start leaking. If this happens, the cruise control of your car will begin to malfunction.

Now that you know the possible reasons why the cruise control of your Civic isn’t working, let’s see some fixes.

Like we mentioned earlier, some of the issues affecting your cruise control can be fixed at home. We will discuss some simple fixes in this section. However, we should warn that if you don’t have any experience, you may reach out to your mechanic for help.

When you notice that your cruise control feature isn’t working well, it is better to double-check. You need to be sure that the cruise control feature is malfunctioning before you begin to diagnose the problem. How do you check the cruise control feature? Take the steps below:

Step 1 – Check the steering wheel for the cruise control button.

Step 2 – Step on the accelerator until you get to the desired speed.

Step 3 – Tap on the “cruise control” button located on your steering wheel. This will activate the feature and engage the system.

Step 4 – If the system is engaged, you should see a green light on your car’s dashboard.

When you see this light, then it means that your cruise control feature isn’t having issues. What if it doesn’t appear?

If the green light doesn’t appear, the cruise control didn’t engage. Now, we have to diagnose the issue. This will require checking the fuse box beneath the dashboard. Why are we checking the fuse box? As we mentioned earlier, one of the most common problems with the cruise control feature is bad fuses. It is always easier to begin with the most common issues. Here’s how to check for bad fuses:

Step 1 – Look at the fuse box that lies beneath the instrument panel and open it.

Step 2 – You must know what fuse is connected to the cruise control feature. To find out, simply check the “owner’s manual.” You should also note that the fuse numbers vary by year and model. So don’t make any assumptions.

Step 3 – If you don’t have the manual, you can check the fuse cover for the fuse map. This map shows the location of each fuse.

Step 4 – After locating the fuse, take it out using a fuse puller tool. If you don’t have one, make use of needle-nose pliers.

Step 5 – Check if the center strip is broken. If it is, replace the fuse. Also double-check that the amperage is right before you snap the fuse in place.

If the fuse isn’t having an issue, then it could be the clutch switch. It is the same as the “brake pedal switch” that we mentioned above. The most common issue with this switch is the wiring. Take the steps below to fix the problem:

Step 1 – Check to be sure that the wiring is in place. There should be a black wire and a pink wire extending from the connector.

Step 2 – If you notice that the wiring is out of place, talk to your mechanic to avoid further damage.

Now you know why your Honda Civic Cruise Control feature isn’t working. We have outlined some simple fixes. However, we suggest that you speak to your mechanic once the system is out of place and the problem seems complicated.

Cruise Control not working

  • Thread starter audavis
  • Start date May 16, 2020

Hello all, I have a 2004 Honda Civic EX Sedan that the cruise control has not worked ever since I owned it. I have done almost all the diagnosing I could do. What happens: When I press the cruise switch, the green light comes on just as it should (right?). When I get up to speed (above 25mph) I press the set button, and the green dash cruise light comes on, but it does not hold the speed. If I press cancel or the brake the dash light turns off just as it should. The only thing that is not happening is holding the vehicle speed. I can press the gas and accelerate while the cruise light is on, but as soon as I let off the gas the car decelerates. I have checked every single fuse in the car, they are all good. The horn works. I have even gotten a wiring diagram for the cruise control system and checked continuity in all the wires. Every single wire I've tested came out fine. Wiring between module and actuator is fine, between VSS, Brake Pedal, switches, fuse box, all fine. The only wiring that was not tested was between the CC Module and ECU. Everything else in this car works to my knowledge except the auto lock and unlock function when put in and out of park. I have gone through the programming, and the car responded properly saying the auto lock and unlock was set, but still did nothing. I should also mention I have replaced both the CC Module and actuator, still nothing. I have the CEL on due to the downstream O2 not being present, and SRS light is on for many reasons. However I took my car into the dealership recently for an airbag recall and they told me the SRS light would have nothing to do with CC not working. I am at a complete lost with this and would like my cruise back as I have a lead foot. Any help is greatly appreciated, I am willing to try anything at this point. If more information is needed please ask away!

Cruise Control Not Working -- Help Needed

honda civic cruise control fuse

  • Add to quote

My father has a 2006 Civic Ex with Nav coupe. Car has always been stock other than the donor parts it receives from my FA5 (suspension, wheels, etc.) Recently the Cruise Control hasn't been working, the main light will come on "Cruise Main" but when you try to "set" it the second light won't come on nor will the cruise engage. I've tried all different speeds and different gears and it won't go on. I briefly searched and saw one maybe 2 people had the same problem but this was years ago and no outcomes were determined. I also thought that maybe it was a fuse but I don't see a fuse that directly corresponds to the cruise control, if there is please show me. Thanks for the help, I really don't want to take the car to the dealership mainly because it's out of the bumper to bumper warranty and I'm sure they'll charge and arm and a leg. If you have a Helms mannual and want to see if there is a troubleshoot section for this and it leads me to fixing my problem, I'll paypal you some $$$$$ for some  for helping.

honda civic cruise control fuse

This happened to me but it works now. I've had issues with cruise control but it might be due to my modifications. How much gas does the car have?

Gas level has varied from full to 1/4 tank. I don't think that would have any effect but I guess crazier things have happened. I'll also note that at one point he said it was sparratic, meaning that it would randomly work but now it never works.

Anyone else experience this problem or have any ideas?

:bump: 'cause my dad keeps bitching.

honda civic cruise control fuse

id take an hour and pull every fuse... atleast he'd leave u alone as u tell him ur trying lol

:deadhorse: It's worth a try I guess....really don't want to bring it to the dealership.

id try the spedometer fuse, all the accessory ones... fidget around with one or two under the hood... its gotta have a fuse or something somewhere... just a matter of figuring out what fuse they wired it to

Ensure your brake lights aren't blown and that they are not aftermarket LED bulbs - this can cause issues with cruise engagement. The car will also log the "reason" the cruise was disengaged in most circumstances, but you need an HDS to read this data.

You say HDS....meaning the OBDII scan tool? Like the one that Autozone will use to check codes?

No, the dealer tool.

^^ That's what I thought. Ok, Ill check the aforementioned items and go from there...smells like I'm headed to Honda sooner then later though.

honda civic cruise control fuse

^^^ Thanks a lot for that, I'm going to give that a try when I get home. If that fuse doesn't solve the problem I'll end up bringing it to Honda, I don't want to mess with the air bag and such.

^ did this problem ever get solved for you? I am having the exact same issue. Thanks Simon

Technically yes but it started working randomly. We never did anything to it....

I have an 08 si and I had this same problem, got in my car one morning and my cruise control just didn't work. Light came on like yours but it wouldn't set. I own a flashpro so I tried just reflashing it. It worked fine after that.

Hello! how did you fix the problem? I have the same issue on a 2006 coupe auto

honda civic cruise control fuse

So how did you get that fixed ? Cause I'm having about the same problem, and i found out on different forums that it is a common problem on 8th gen civics..! I own a '06 LX Civic 4dr. I bought it few weeks ago (used car at the dealer). When pressing the ''cruise'' button, the cruise green light on the dash will come ''on'', but then, pressing the ''set'' button will not hold the speed. I've tried this several times on the highway, with the same result every time. Seems like i can activate the Cruise, but I cannot engage it to maintain a certain speed. I'd like to fix it, since I'm doing a lot of highways.. any more hints on what to do ? Thanks.

I had this problem on my 94 Si. Turns out the rubber bumper, that the clutch lever rests on when not engaged, had broke and fallen out. There was a switch rod that now poked through the hole in the lever where the bumper was. That switch, by not being activated by the bumper, made the cruise think the clutch pedal was pressed. You can't engage the cruise if the clutch pedal is pressed. If you have a faulty switch, that could also be the problem instead of the bumper.

hia. I did a mod to my family car in Pakistan. Its a 2008 civic which is shaped like the canadian Acura. Its a FD1 auto. I recently swapped a 2010 LX 4 dr tacho which i bought from ebay USA. The car is poweres by an R18. Added a civic type R steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. The things i notived are that a spanner light comes on, which i reckon is the service light. Pak Civic does not have this feature. Similarly TPMS light is on.(no sensors here) Again not present in OEM Pak civic. Pak uses KM/H whereas the tacho automatically converted to Miles. I used to get beep tones when putting car in R, now no beeps(was really sick of that otherwise!) i D.I.Yed cruise control installation. The green cruise main comes on when pressing the cruise button but the cruise control main feature wont come on even after crossing 25mph speed. Cruise control does not come on. Ive researched for over a yr now n im 100 % sure the wiring is correct as im in direcgt contact with an installer in Thailand. Now im stuck up as dont have cruise control. The orig tacho never displayed the cruise main n cruise control icons when doing the diagnostic tests. The new LX 4 dr sedan tacho dies light up the cruise buttons on the tacho. I added all the wires missing from steering wheel harness to back of tacho and also got the the illumination lights on with the parking lights. What could epbe the cause. Do i req a new ECU? Do i have to get it reprogrammed from Honda etc or just swap it with a US LX ecu? When i (manually) join all the wires coming out of the tacho from the points 9,10 n 11 the cruise main comes on. Joining any two doesnt light up the icon. So this means all the 3 wires are connected properly. I understand that a separate wire is to be grounded which i have done. Then connecting the first wire at point 9 of tacho n pressing the cruise button turns ON cruise main green light. The other two are connected at points 10 n 11 of tacho. Ground is connected at point 15 black (G504) . I still havent connected the airbag or the sel/reset buttons. Could it be becoz of that that it aint working. Ur professional inputs will be a life saver as ive put in so much effort into all this. Plzzz plzzz help. Ive 2 weeks holidays left then im back to UK. Plz help mates . Will be extremely grateful.

BTW i managed to get the audio controls working many months back. Added audio aux etc so i know a bit about car electronics. N 1 more thing when i did the tacho diagnostics test on gthe new LX tacho after displaying the icons ERROR 1 comes up but then goes away after turning OFF . Now what do the experts say on this?

- Press the Cruise Control button to turn on the cruise control - Press the Set button to "activate" the cruise control

i know that part mate but cruise control button not switching on. Only cruise main comes on

could be a ground - i know when one of the main grounds to the ecu went loose on my swap the ecu was one of the first things to act up... check for corrosion on the grounds / loose grounds...

thank u all. FINALLY got the wiring sorted. It turned out that brake light switch wiring was missing! Did that over the week n now i reckon our car is the FIRST in Pakistan to have cruise control in Honda Civic! Yipppeee hurrayyyyyyyyy! It was a complete D.IY n took me research, parts sourcing, n brainstorming coupled with stress n hardwork for nearly a Year. Im proud of my achievements! The trim levels in Pakistan are Ivtec n Oriel. The latter having dual airbags n sunroof. Both powered by an R18. So mine is an ORIEL PROSMATEC where prosmatec is for the auto n it stands for progressive shift management techonology. So what do u guys say shall i nick name the car CRUISEMATEC? strange yet true here the corolla is the only car having factory cruise control n the corolla people put an emblem of CRUISETRONIC on its trunk. Whenever my bro visits Pakistan n sees the car he says look at the Honda it has a whole essay written on its trunk which includes Honda+civic+1.8+ivtec+oriel+prosmatec(progressive shift management techonology wrtten beneath it) +ABS(anti lock brake system written beneath it!) sticker on the rear screen phewww!

Nice Job. :clapping: Now, help us catch & kill that scumdog coward Ayman al-Zawahiri!! :usa:

^Pakistanis have killed/captured many of them. They're a threat to the Pakistani people as they are to the rest. These B*******s have killed around 40,000 Pakistani people in suicidal n target killings incl around 10,000 soldiers who lost their lives.Pakistan has paid the heaviest price in the world against these suckers. Theres only a minute fracction in the 180 million population who support em majority of Pakistanis are moderate peace loving Muslims who loathe such SOBs. I lost my 2 best friends who were in the armed forces of Pakistan in this GWOT. On the contrary people here dont appreciate the Drone attack by the US either as many civilians have been killed in these attacks. Ill keep my eyes open!

I hear ya, bro! My condolences for all of your losses. I realize it only takes a few bad apples to give all Muslims a bad name. Let's hope they stop attacking innocent men, women, & children in Pakistan and elsewhere around the world.

Hi, i Did put the steering switch on and verify all the wires that goes to the tach control and everyhing is ok! When I press Cruise Main ON not working . I did not wire my brake switch yet +12V Yellow to BROWN wire to A39 pin ECM/PCM. Do you think it is because of that and the PCM does not activate the Cruise Control circuit ? Thx

honda civic cruise control fuse

I have had the same problem out of my 07 SI. I haven't had time to mess with it yet. My brake lights just recently stopped working also.

My Cruise Main light keeps flickering on and off... with the Cruise Main button not pressed.. Any idea's what it could mean?

Checking and Replacing Fuses

If something electrical in your car stops working, the first thing you should check for is a blown fuse. Determine from the chart, or the diagram on the fuse box lid, which fuse or fuses control that component. Check those fuses first, but check all the fuses before deciding that a blown fuse is not the cause. Replace any blown fuses and check the component’s operation.

  • Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). Make sure the headlights and all other accessories are off.
  • Remove the cover from the fuse box.
  • Check each of the large fuses in the under-hood fuse box by looking through the top at the wire inside. Removing these fuses requires a Phillips-head screwdriver.
  • Check the smaller fuses in the under-hood fuse box and all the fuses in the interior fuse box by pulling out each fuse with the fuse puller provided in the interior fuse box.
  • Look for a burned wire inside the fuse. If it is burned, replace it with one of the spare fuses of the same rating or lower. If you cannot drive the car without fixing the problem, and you do not have a spare fuse, take a fuse of the same rating or a lower rating from one of the other circuits. Make sure you can do without that circuit temporarily (such as the accessory socket or radio). If you replace the blown fuse with a spare fuse that has a lower rating, it might blow out again. This does not indicate anything wrong. Replace the fuse with one of the correct rating as soon as you can.
  • If the replacement fuse of the same rating blows in a short time, there is probably a serious electrical problem in your car. Leave the blown fuse in that circuit and have your car checked by a qualified technician.
  • Replacing a fuse with one that has a higher rating greatly increases the chances of damaging the electrical system. If you do not have a replacement fuse with the proper rating for the circuit, install one with a lower rating.
  • Never replace a broken fuse with anything other than a new fuse.

Cruise control not working

I have an 03 lx. The light for the cruise control switch lights(I think) however it doesn't turn on in the dash( cruise control doesn't pop up) its been like this for a while. I'd like to get it fixed before spring break. Thanks!

honda civic cruise control fuse

check the cruise control fuse

Will do. How do I know which one is the CC fuse?

honda civic cruise control fuse

Check under the fuse cover in the engine bay. There's a diagram, description and rating for each fuse. If the fuse checks good. Try your upper clutch engagement switch. If the switch is not making full contact with the clutch pedal, your cruise will not engage. It's adjustable. Just loosen the nut and remove the plug from the switch. Give it a few turns until the switch is depressed with the clutch pedal in the normal "up" position. Tighten nut and reattach the plug. The switch is there to disable the cruise, if/when you step on the clutch when driving. Good luck.

honda civic cruise control fuse

well since you have a auto then it shouldnt matter the thing about the clutch and just find the fuse pull it out and see if the fuse is blow which will look black and the horseshoe will be broken inside the fuse if it that then just replace it

awesome thank you, do i get the fuse from the honda dealer or local auto parts store?

local auto parts store... no need to go to honda the panel quide to show you what number the fuse is in and amp will be located under you dash under the steering wheel i think on the left side. good luck let me know how it goes:tup:

if it isnt under the dash then under the hood there is a cruise control fuse also in the fuse box.. the diagram will also be under the lid to the box.. check both and might wanna make sure if the fuse was replaced before, the previous person put the right amp fuse in it

Coordinates of Elektrostal in decimal degrees

Coordinates of elektrostal in degrees and decimal minutes, utm coordinates of elektrostal, geographic coordinate systems.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
