Pacific X Tour Pro 97 Racquet Review

pacific bxt x tour 97

  • Comfortable
  • Arm-friendly
  • Smaller sweetspot

Video Review

Our playtesters really enjoyed what the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 offered, noting the outstanding comfort and control in particular. With the new BasaltX Fiber Technology, which seeks to iron out the vibrations on off-center contact, this racquet proved to be very comfortable. The 16x20 string pattern, which is gaining popularity, provided good spin and ample power. The new grommet system, which protects the frame all the way down to the throat area, keeps this stick looking good longer! Our playtesters did notice a smaller sweetspot, which could be widened through modifications such as stringing at the low end of the tension range or placing some tungsten tape at 10 and 2 o'clock on the hoop. Overall, this X Tour Pro 97 is an all-court racquet that provides a comfortable response for players looking to take aggressive cuts at the ball.

Pacific X Tour Pro 97 Racquet Review Scores

Groundstrokes - score: 85.

The common thread in our playtesters' experience from the baseline was the comfort level of the X Tour Pro 97 . Sebastian really liked the way this racquet felt when he was swinging it, noting its exceptional comfort on groundstrokes. He said, "I was surprised by the superior comfort and excellent feel of the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 from the baseline. Besides the comfort, I really enjoyed this racquet's maneuverability and fast feel. Its headlight balance and very manageable swingweight allowed me to swing through the ball easily while creating a lot of topspin."

Similarly, Mark felt right at home from the baseline with this racquet, stating, "I usually begin hitting sessions with some short-court groundstrokes, and this is when I get to see if I can finesse a given racquet. With Pacific's newer X Tour Pro 97, I was feeling very comfortable within 20 shots. Whether I was playing groundstroke games from the baseline or from inside the service court, I felt like I was getting more power than expected from the X Tour Pro 97. My groundstroke consistency was in the 90 percent range, and because my backhand/forehand eclipsed the 70 MPH barrier, I quickly learned to love this racquet from the baseline."

Karly had mixed emotions when it came to hitting with this racquet from the baseline. She explained, "What stood out the most to me was the muted feel of this racquet. On one hand, I really enjoyed the extreme comfort; it was very dampened and absorbed shock really well. It also felt very stable, so I didn't experience any harsh vibrations or fluttering. On the other hand, the feel was so muted that I felt disconnected from the ball. I didn't get that immediate response of knowing which direction my shot was going when I made contact. Whether my shots flew off the racquet because I hit the sweetspot or landed short because I hit outside of it, contact felt the same. I had a hard time playing consistently because of that unpredictable response. On the bright side, it was a very comfortable racquet to hit with even if I mis-hit the ball."

Volleys - Score: 88

Our playtesters enjoyed the X Tour Pro 97 up at net, and, for the most part, they were in control of where their volleys ended up. Karly found a good all-around level of performance up at net, noting, "I liked volleying with the X Tour Pro 97 for a number of reasons, the biggest one being I thought it played consistently. I had a better sense of where my shots were going when I made contact. It felt livelier and not as muted, while still offering tremendous comfort and great stability. It didn't flutter in my hand at all if I hit off-center shots. I also thought the maneuverability helped the most on volleys. I was confident I could move the racquet into position in time and never felt slowed down at all. Actually, there wasn't anything I disliked about volleying with the X Tour Pro 97!"

Sebastian was also confident volleying with the X Tour Pro 97, and he was a big fan of the maneuverability at net. He said, "I enjoyed this racquet a lot when coming to the net and hitting volleys, particularly because of its great feel and exceptional maneuverability. Even in pressure situations, I was able to react quickly and adjust the position of my racquet accordingly. I was able to hit my volleys with great precision, allowing me to go for my volleys with a lot of confidence."

The specs of the X Tour Pro 97 suited Mark really well, giving him the ability to get the racquet into position with ease. He said, "I always expect that a racquet weighing close to 12 ounces will feel very stable at net, however, I sometimes have trouble getting heavier racquets into proper position on time. The combination of the X Tour Pro 97's soft feel and weight suited me perfectly anywhere near the net."

Serves - Score: 86

The playtesters seemed to enjoy the fast feel this racquet offered, especially while serving. Karly was finding plenty of spin on both first and second serves, stating, "The X Tour Pro 97 swung much faster than I was expecting for serves. Even with its heavier weight, I was able to whip this head light racquet around quickly for a hard flat serve or use its great spin potential for a second serve that offered a ton of kick when it landed. The spin was so easy to generate I was still confident I could hit a tough second serve even on the days when my first serve percentage was lower than usual. My only minor complaint was that I really had to put in extra effort to generate power. Hitting flat serves helped, but I had to swing hard and fast if I wanted good pace on a serve with spin."

Mark found a consistent response with this racquet on his serves, which complemented his groundstroke game nicely. He said, "Although I have been working on my serve lately, my ground game is a bit more accomplished compared to the serve portion of my game. That said, the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 benefited my serve along with the rest of my game, so much so that I successfully used it in a doubles tournament. PlaySight loves to let me know that my MPHs are nothing to brag about, but my serve was effective and consistent with the new X Tour Pro 97."

While the X Tour Pro 97 had definite upsides for Sebastian , he was left wanting some additional performance. He explained, "While I did enjoy the racquet's fast feel and maneuverability on second serves, I was hoping for a bit more stability, as well as more mass towards the head of the racquet -- especially on first serves. Despite its substantial static weight of almost 12 ounces, the headlight balance and low swing weight didn't provide me with the power I was hoping for. On that note, I feel that the specifications of the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 leave room for customization and some added weight toward the head of the racquet. When I was going for a heavy kick serve I did enjoy the higher trajectory I was able to get on the ball, and I really liked being able to generate lots of spin."

pacific bxt x tour 97

Returns - Score: 79

Return of serve was one area where our playtesters struggled to find a consistent response with this racquet. Playing around with some lead tape and customization is one way these inconsistencies could be ironed out. Sebastian struggled with a bit of twisting on impact, mentioning, "Once again, I was wishing for a bit more stability. I feel that some added weight to the head of the X Tour Pro 97 would improve stability during contact and minimize twisting on off-center shots. While I did enjoy the fast feel, which allowed me to maneuver through my return quickly, I was struggling with some racquet head twisting."

Similarly, Karly was left wanting more mass in the frame on returns, stating, "I had a harder time with serve returns only because of its head light balance. When I was returning against a powerful server the X Tour Pro 97 didn't feel like it had enough weight to drive through my stroke. It lacked plow through and the ball seemed to lag on the stringbed longer, so I had to follow-through with more effort and energy than usual. I didn't notice it as much with slower serves, but when serves came in fast and I had to swing quickly I struggled with plow through and depth."

Mark had the opposite experience. He found this racquet a bit on the heavier side for returning. He elaborated, "Returning serves was not my strongest suit with the X Tour Pro 97. My go-to shot for the service return is a chip back deep in the court, which was fine. However, I have been trying to swing through my return more often, and when I attempted this shot I did feel the X Tour Pro 97's heft a bit more."

Overall - Score: 86

Mark - "I like the SF Giants' cosmetics and the easy access to spin and power. I also appreciated Pacific's newer bumper guard/grommet system, which protects the frame better and probably contributes to its very solid feel."

Karly - "I loved how comfortable and arm-friendly the X Tour Pro 97 felt, no matter where I made contact. It had such a dampened feel and absorbed shock really well."

Sebastian - "The standout features were excellent maneuverability and comfort, and superior feel."

Mark - "I'm not sure this really qualifies as a dislike, but the X Tour Pro 97 is a racquet that begs me to reconsider my thoughts/doubts regarding how effective I can be with a heavy racquet."

Karly - "The very different response between hitting inside the sweetspot and outside of it."

Sebastian - "At times I was struggling with the racquet head twisting on off-center shots."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Mark - "Other racquets with a plush feel that are comparable to the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 are the Babolat Pure Control Tour, the Volkl Super G 10 (320g), the Prince Textreme Tour 95, and although the beam is a little firmer, the Head Graphene Prestige MP."

Karly - "The X Tour Pro 97 reminded me a lot of the Volkl Organix 10 Mid, only with a bigger head and more power. Both racquets are extremely comfortable and arm friendly, swing faster than their weight suggests, offer a stable feel throughout the court, and have a really dampened, muted feel on contact."

Sebastian - "I found the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 to play similarly to both the Volkl Super G 10 (320g) and the Tecnifibre TFight 315 DYNACORE. All three racquets have a solid static weight of around 12 ounces and provide the mass of a player's racquet. Both the Pacific and the Tecnifibre racquets have a 7 point headlight balance and low swingweight, which gives any player room to experiment with some added weight."

Racket Review: Pacific X Tour 97

Originally published on 30/06/16 00:00

At 97-square-inches this frame was one of the smaller ones on test, and while that meant at times its sweetspot was hard to find consistently, the comfort on the ball was right up there with the best.

Not a particularly well-known brand in the UK, the testers were fairly unfamiliar with Pacific frames but that didn’t affect their appreciation of what the X Tour 97 had to offer.

Adam found “good spin levels and control on groundstrokes” which may well be a result of the open 16 x 20 stringing pattern.

Sarah’s favourite element was its overall power and its feel when hitting with slice. Another example of players being pleasantly surprised by a racket. It pays to try before you buy!

There hasn't been much talk about these since their release last fall. Anybody tried it or using it? I just ordered one and unfortunately I couldn't get it off TW, because the BXT line of racquets aren't appearing on the site anymore....what gives? I plan on sharing my thoughts on the X Tour Pro 97 here when I finally get to hit with it. I welcome you all to do the same.

It's a beauty of a frame. flies under the radar in my opinion. just like the old fishers!!

Yes, great racquet. Fantastic for serving. But it is pretty demanding, something like prestige line

I really like the XTP97. For me it has pretty easy power accuracy and spin. I would play with it more but just trying other stuff right now. Even though I'm not using it, I like it enough to keep it around.

Do the Pacific frames have the same distinctive "thunk" the older Fischers had? I feel it was from the Vacuum process... To be clear, Revolution Pro/Pro No.1/Pro Classic ACT98 models I am referencing having the "thunk".

Backhanded Compliment said: yes... the "pro" pacific models have the vacuum process to get the zero tolerance spec... and yeah... just hit with one. First thought was Fischer "Thunk" also has to do with Fischer's vibration "tuning" as part of the design.... a big part of the fischer feel is they sought that sensation in the design process. I would have tried out the tour 97 but it was too stiff. Had it been say 62 or lower RA I might have loved it. I really like that Thunk. Click to expand...
mellowyellow said: It is addicting... I think it has ruined me to an extent, nothing compares to that IMO. I regret most purchases since the Kafelnikov Pro No.1 except the Volkl DNX 10 mids. I liked the Pro Classic ACT98 the most it was a flexible, thinner constant beam. The No.1 was nice too just not a fan of tapered beams, the Revolution Pro seemed less refined. Thanx for the feed back, looking at the X Feel Pro 95 right now... Click to expand...

I've played two sets on different days against different opponents and hit a hopper of serves, then played against the wall for a bit with the BXT Tour 97 Pro. I have it strung up with Babolat Natural Gut Tonic 16 at 56lb. For reference On game days, I mainly play with the Yonex V-Core Tour 89 with Poly low tension or Hybrid. I like to rotate between a lot of different racquets....because I just like to try different racquets. The first time out I hit serves and played against the wall, and drop-fed myself some groundies. This is a very comfortable stick, quite muted, great touch--although muted--I could always tell which part of the racquet face I made contact, and super maneuverable. This racquet does whatever you want it to, touch shots are very low powered, and there seems to be power on reserve when you really swing out and crank a flat ball. I was able to hit huge kick serves, biting slices, and amazing angles. It's pretty darn stable for a light-swinging racquet, too. The flex rating is deceiving, in that on softer shots the racquet felt firm, but on big flat serves and forehands, it feels like the racquets really flexes and gives a great big "Thwack!" The only issues I had after my first match was off-center hits lacked pace, and I had trouble finding depth on topspin groundstrokes and returns. Granted, I was used to a much bigger swingweight, which likely affected my topspin shots landing short. On my second set, I added about 4 grams at 10 and 2. This little bit of lead made a huge difference, I was getting better depth, hitting bigger serves, more stability at the net and on off-center shots...the amazing thing was that I was still able to swing the racquet really quickly through the air! I almost felt like I should add more lead just so I don't have adjust the swing speed and timing. This is a really great lighter player's frame. It's feel it very reminiscent of the flexible, wider beam, players racquets of the 90's, but with a more modern muted feel, with a bit more power...Every time I hit with it, it really reminds me of the Volkl Organix 10 mid, but with a bigger sweetspot, and a much lower swingweight, and I find it twists less--more stable than the Volkl. I played the OX10 Mid for a while, and the feel and touch are very, very similar, with the Pacific playing with a deeper pocket on impact. It's a cool racquet, but IMO needs weight for those who like to hit through the ball. The first set I played with it, I altered my aggressive game and played with arching spin, placing the ball with lots of spin, and it would suit that type of player really well, without adding any weight. I will play again with it this week, but during my last match I was hitting my flat shots long...could also be I'm not used to the power of Full bed of Natty gut. I'm curious to see if I can get my whole game dialed in with this stick, because it has everything I loved with Organix Mid, plus the added benefits I mentioned above. *ON a side note, the Butt cap has a really heavy flare at the very bottom, which is quite the opposite feel of the Yonex Grips. I'm not sure if I like itor not, but I did find my hand fidgeting with the grip preparing for serves and returns, where I just "grab and go" with the Yonexes.

I'd like to hear about how comfortable people find this racquet. It seems to have a fairly high stiffness rating at 67, but the Tennis Warehouse review says it was really comfortable, so I'm a bit confused. Also, on the TWU Racquet Vibration Frequency chart, it's pretty high at 157. I'm interested because I liked the X-Force Pro 18x20, but thought it was too low powered, unless I added weight until it was 10 grams too heavy for me. I liked the feel of the X-Force, but I'm worried the XTour would be too stiff for me.

Automatix

Plays softer than the RA would suggest and is quite dampened. It is however low powered which is, as I assume, due to the low swingweight - you have to compensate by either RHS&going through the ball or with lead.

I loved this racquet - best directional control from a MP racquet that I have ever tried. Feel is crisp, but comfortable - very clean feeling racquet actually with wonderful feedback. I'm an old Fischer fan and I think the feel of the modern Pacifics are close. I did feel a slight twing in my wrist, but I was also using a smaller than average gripsize which may have contributed to the soreness. Probably hit my best backhands in years playing with this racquet. Although I liked it in stock form, I found that with a bit of lead on the top, its awesome all around. It was a contender of my next racquet, but for me, the PS 97S narrowly beats it on forgiveness and has more power to spare. That said, if you are on your game, the X Tour Pro 97 is an amazing racquet hit with.

Crocodile

Would like to see these racquets more available to buy. I really loved the X Feel Pro 95 and would love to have the opportunity to buy more of these if I could and perhaps the 97, which I would customise. These racquets do have an addictive feel to them as mentioned by yellowmellow and there gut strings are great as well. The opportunity to buy matched pairs is also a plus.

  • Nov 13, 2016

I agree with the above comments, in that the Tour Pro 97 is quite comfortable and muted, but does feel firm. It is very whippy. And has the control of a mid, especially on spin strokes. I will say this, I don't think there is another racquet on the market right now that has similar characteristics. Like I mentioned in an above post, it feels similar to the Volkl Organix Mid, but in a lighter, more spin-friendly package with a deeper pocket at contact. Even thought the Pacific is a firm racquet, it felt like it held the ball for a split second longer than it's flex rating would imply, thus allowing for that little extra bit of feel and control. To answer the question on if it's really a comfortable stick, I would say yes, it certainly belies its flex rating as far as comfort goes.

Seems to be definitely an interesting racquet. This is another Fischer legacy design, if I'm not mistaken? (Vacuum Pro Classic?) As for flex, I'm not surprised at all. TW specs say X Force Pro No.1 has flex rating 63 RA. X Tour Pro has 67 RA. I can tell that No.1 is very plush, much more than its RA would show. It's the difference between static and dynamic flex, I believe. Since materials used are the same on X Tour Pro, no wonder that it should have a degree of plushness.

Interesting... According to the table, XTP97 has also 69 RA. According to TW review, it has 67 RA. (and for what we know, TW measures strung flex) But according to official Pacific catalogue specifications, XTP97 should have 64 RA: http://pacific.com/fileadmin/user_upload/global_downloads/cat_PacificCatalogue2017_EN_low.pdf Zero tolerance??

I really don't know what to make of all these TWU numbers... I have so many frames, some have "good", i.e., comfort-indicating, numbers, some have "bad", i.e., discomfort (or rather, less-comfort)-indicating numbers, yet I can't make a prediction how they will feel for me personally based on these numbers. The correlations between all these indices and my personal feel of comfort with a given frame appear to be zero. But let me tell you this much: I have the X Tour Pro 97, and with a leather grip, an overgrip, a Pacific O-dampener, and a soft poly, this frame feels addictive for me. Most definitely among the purest and most satisfying sensations I've encountered playing with a multitude of different rackets and set-ups. No discomfort at all, no pain after sessions. And the racket lets me do things I thought I could only do with a racket head < 95 squin.

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review

I had not really properly tested Pacific racquets before I did my review of the X Tour Pro 97, but since that was such a positive experience, I was happy to sink my teeth into this Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review.

The Pacific X Tour Pro 97 is a players racquet with a manageable swing weight and a small sweet spot, but the Pacific X Fast Pro is something quite different. The racquet is 100 sq inches, weighs 310 grams, comes slightly extended and offers a healthy swing weight of 335. Does this mean it is difficult to use? Not really, but a swing weight that feels nice and solid during the first 45 minutes can affect you after one hour and a half. But I really enjoyed this Pacific X Fast Pro racquet review throughout.

When I played with this racquet compared to my Pacific X Tour Pro 97 (click the link to read my review) I noticed the easy power and depth from the X Fast. The sweet spot is surprisingly large, especially since Pacific racquets are more known for smaller, more precise sweet spots. Despite the extended length, I felt quite a home with this racquet after only twenty minutes of hitting. What was noticeable was the more controlled launch angle compared to for example a Pure Aero , Wilson Clash or HEAD Extreme . For my game, this is a big plus because it was less likely that the ball launched on me with the Pacific X-Fast Pro.

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review – Specs and tech

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review

The Pacific X Fast Pro is a powerful racquet, but I think they have managed to find a good balance between power and control. Here are the specs:

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review

I did not feel any need to add lead tape or increase the swing weight on this racquet. It was stable on volleys, gave me nice pop on serves, and offered a low skidding response on my slice. I did struggle a bit with generating racquet head speed compared to a standard length Aero or similar, but the extended length was pretty much spot on as it did not hamper me too much but still offered better stability than most similar racquets.

I had a blast using the Pacific X-Fast Pro and was very surprised by how much I liked it. After my first hour, it was clear that this racquet really made it easy for me to hit my spots consistently and move my opponents around. I especially liked looping spinny shots on my forehand to my opponent’s backhand in a Rafa-inspired effort to open up the court. On my one-handed backhand, the extended length was a bit more noticeable and it wasn’t as easy for me to hit it aggressively, but the slice shot bailed me out often since I managed to produce a really low and skidding slice with the X-Fast Pro.

I also enjoyed this racquet a lot on serves and managed to get both spin and pop on them. This is where I appreciated the extra length the most. I mainly used this racquet on hard courts, but on a clay court for an aggressive baseliner, this racquet could be a very interesting choice indeed.

Pacific X Fast Pro Racquet Review – Pros and Cons

I find it hard to fault this racquet. It is definitely for more advanced players due to the heftier swing weight, but if you can handle that, this racquet has a lot on offer.

Pros + Easy access to power and spin + Stable + Controlled launch angle

Cons – Can be a bit cumbersome to swing – Not the best touch on volleys (but great at punching them)

All in all, the Pacific X Fast Pro is an excellent racquet for intermediate to advanced baseliners looking for a stable and spin-friendly racquet with juicy swing weight and a controlled launch angle.

Pacific makes some really nice, solid frames with good feel, If they had a couple of big names in their line-up i´m sure they would be considered one of the top brands in the talk when players are looking for new gear. Now they are almost forgotten and that´s a shame. I really hope people give Pacific a try because this is pure quality frames

Do you prefer the Pacific X Fast Pro or the Pacific 97 Tour

The Tour Pro is my favorite in the end because I simply prefer control-oriented racquets.

Would you consider doing a review of the Pro No. 1? In honour of Baghdatis’ imminent retirement?

If I get a hold of one I will!

As a long-time Fischer Black Granite 98 pro No.1 -user I read your reviews of the X tour pro and the X fast pro with special Interest. My black granite is the successor of the Baghdatis-Racket M-pro No. 1 and M speed pro No.1 and the predecessor of the Pacific X-force pro 320 in its various iterations, specwise they are identical. The current X-force pro No1 is a much lighter Racket and not the one that Baghdatis once used (despite the Name). I’m quite happy with the performance of my Fischer-Rackets, although at the time I’m thinking about switching back to my old Dunlop Muscle Weave 200g 95, which I played prior the Fischers, inspired by your reviews of the Dunlop Cx 200 and the Prince Phantom 93 pro. Nonetheless, do you plan on making a review of the Pacific X-force pro 320? I would be delighted, since it very underrated and under the radar. Keep up the great work!

Well, I have to correct myself. The Pacific Pro No.1 IS the racket that Baghdatis used, at least moldwise, but much lighter (internal Fischer Mold-Name is “252”). The x force pro and my Fischer Black Granite no.1 as well as the former M-pro No 1 and M-speed pro No 1 are all very likely to be derived from the Fischer Pro No 1 FT (“Frequency Tuning”). The main difference can be seen in the throat area, above the handle. Otherwise the two molds are quite similar, but not the same (At 3 and 9 the xforce pro has a slightly thicker area which the pro no 1 does not have). Sorry for misleading anyone but TW once reviewed the m-pro No 1 as Baghdatis’ racket (several years ago), but he always played a paintjob of the 252 mold. It is also the same mold that kafelnikov once used. Nevertheless I (and probably a few others) would be delighted if you could also make a review of the x force pro.
