2023 PRICE:

Adult - $300

Child - $200 (under 14 yrs)

3 & under - FREE

Departing from the Seisia Wharf at 8:00am sharp.

Returning back to the wharf around 4:00 - 4:15pm

Start your day from Seisia joining Cape York Adventures on board one of our vessels built specifically for the Torres Strait. A small intimate group ensures you are well looked after and able to connect with other likeminded travellers.

We head across the Endeavour Straits passing Prince of Wales and Entrance Island enroute to Horn Island to visit the Heritage Museum, a privately owned collection of WW2 history and local culture and artefacts.

Back on the boat and off to TI, administrative centre of the Torres Strait.

Arriving at TI around 10.45am your taxi tour commences. You have about 90 minutes to check out the main street, visit Gab Tutui Cultural centre and enjoy lunch at one of the several pubs and cafes.

Back on the boat at 1:30pm and over to Roko Island.

A short stroll to the old stone jetty with a Roko Island resident, hopefully being able to spot a crocodile.

Soak up the serenity, enjoy a coffee, an icy cold tap beer or cocktail and walk around the island, you may even wish to purchase one of their souvenirs.

(Please note that Roko Island is no longer running as a pearl farm)

Your skipper will keep you informed and look after your needs.

Horn Island

Keep you eye out for Dugongs , Turtles and Crocs as we head into Horn Island, you just never know.

You will wander through the village to visit the Heritage Museum. The privately run Museum has all the WWII history of the area complied by local historian and WWII expert Vanessa Seekee. The Museum also showcases the artwork and Torres Strait artefacts collected by Richard Seekee and his family over decades and decades in Torres Strait.

There is something to interest young and old in the museum from Pearl Divers suits and model pearl luggers to the stories and artefacts from WWII and the turtle shells and paintings and stories from Torres Strait.

Thursday Island

Welcome to ti civilisation.

Cruising on to Thursday Island you can begin your exploration with the history walk on the water front, what do you know about Luis Vaez de Torres? What about 1606?

Who named Thursday Island?

TI Taxi Tour in a small group with TI Locals

Thursday Island is TI to the locals, and we will meet some of those locals who will take our guests on a personal taxi tour of the island. Our small groups mean you are enjoying a very personal tour around TI with guides who have shown our guests around TI for a decade.

You will visit the highest point at Green Hill for a spectacular 360 degree view of the surrounding waterways, islands & TI. What threat to the British Empire prompted the building of Green Hill Fort on TI?

You will visit TI cemetary: is there a Japanese Princess buried there? How many Japanese pearl divers graves are there? Is there a Japanese Imperial guard? See the tombstone memorial to Bernard Namok, the designer of the Torres Strait flag. What about Ephraim Bani the Torres Strait historian.

Your guides will share history and culture stories as they show you around the whole island. Our guests always love meeting  a TI local.

Gab Titui Cultural Centre

While you are wandering along the water front visit Gab Titui Cultural Centre, a premier art destination and repository for Torres Strait cultural artefacts. They sell Erub Arts (Darnley Island) artworks and many other local artists works.

Explore Thursday Island or Relax

Wander Douglas Street and visit the Quetta Memorial Cathedral, Mona's Bazaar is always  interesting, ''Seehops' and Ah Boo's are classic TI stores known by the name of the owner. Tribal Boutique and Uncle Frankie's Café are city chic while Customs House on the waterfront reminds the visitor of the colonial history of Far North Queensland.

Or you might want to just stay on the cool verandah of the Torres and enjoy another cold drink.

You don't need to be back at the boat until 1.30pm giving you plenty of time to wander TI and explore (it isn't that big !)

Roko Island

By 2:30pm we are at beautiful Roko Island.

Roko is the smallest inhabited, self sustained island in the Torres Strait. A tropical paradise, where you can forget the red dust for a moment, relax and enjoy a cold tap beer or cocktail at the ' Jetty Bar ' if you wish, whilst absorbing the spectacular scenery. Take a stroll down to the old stone jetty and see if you can spot a crocodile.

Day 2 – Depart up the Peninsular Development Road for the Old Telegraph Track (OTT) heading for Cape York . We travel via the Hann River Roadhouse , and check out the Musgrave Telegraph Station . Musgrave was first built as an overland telegraph station in 1887, along with Palmerville, Fairview, Coen, Mein, Moreton, McDonnell and Paterson. It was named after Sir Anthony Musgrave (1828 – 1888) who was Governor of Queensland from 1883 to 1888. These stations were  repeater stations, with great banks of batteries and a generator to boost the power in the telegraph line.  Beyond the township of Coen we pass the old Quarantine Station , and begin to pass a number of exciting creek crossings. We pass through the Mungkan Kandju National Park, a large wilderness park that stretches from the McIlwraith Range foothills, between the Archer and Coen rivers, and consists of open eucalypt woodlands, melaleuca swamps and various rainforest types. The Wik Mungkan, Kaanju and Ayapathu Aboriginal peoples, the Traditional Owners of the park, welcome you to their land and ask that you respect their culture and country during your visit. We take a break at the Archer River Roadhouse, and cross the Piccaninny Plains and Savannah country to arrive in Weipa for an optional  tour of the massive bauxite mine operated by Rio Tinto (if operating). Weipa is the largest town on Cape York Peninsula, and has approx 3000 people supporting the mining and export of bauxite and cattle. Nearby is Duyfken Point, where Dutch explorer Willem Janszoon recorded the Australian coast in 1606, 164 years prior to James Cook. BLD Overnight Weipa

Thursday Island is known as Waiben, meaning ‘no water or place of no water’. In 1877, TI  was an administrative centre for the Torres Strait Islands established by the Queensland Government. In the early days over 1000 Japanese pearl divers were operating here. In 1880, Thursday Island acted as a defence post for Australia and old canons remain on the Island. On TI, a 1 hour island tour is included , highlighting local history and landmarks, then free time to enjoy the Torres Strait Islander cultural centre , and pearl, souvenir or window shopping. Thursday and Horn Island Tours: Very interesting and worth doing

We booked the ferry and tour to Thursday Island through Peddells a couple of months before we arrived and found the online reservation very efficient. The ferry was on time and was very comfortable. There was food and drink available but you had to be quick - there were no muffins left when we got to the counter. The tour of Thursday Island was interesting but it would have been better if we could have got off the bus more to take photos and look around. The only stop was at Green Hill Fort and museum. The view from the Fort was magnificent and the museum was very interesting. We then drove through the town but didn't make any other stops. After the Peddells Thursday Island tour we took another ferry for a short trip to Horn Island and did the excellent 'In Their Steps' tour run by Vanessa Seekee. This tour visited WW11 sites and relics on Horn Island. We had booked this tour separately online but it would have been more efficient to have booked both tours together which I think you can do on the Peddells site. There was more detail given on the Horn Island Tour and the museum was amazing. Fortunately we stayed overnight on Horn Island and were able to go back to the museum again after the tour. If you are on the Cape York Peninsula it is very worth while to include the Torres Strait Islands in your itinerary: Thursday and Horn Islands are very accessible, the tours interesting, the people on the islands incredibly friendly and the scenery is beautiful. Highly recommended

Hi, Thank you for sharing your positive review about Peddells Thursday Island Tours.

Peddells service was friendly and great, It was a very comfortable ride in a near new boat, had great coffee on board, the views were amazing of all the islands and the water was a deep tuquiose colour, I was fortunate enough to see a hump back whale and its calf breaching the water just before we arrived into seisia wharf it was amazing. I have done this trip several times and have seen something different every time, Mackerel jumping, turtles as well. I have also experienced the tour on Thursday island up to green hill fort this is also a must do it was historically very informative and well worth the visit to the museum under green hill fort, also there are amazing views of the surrounding islands for 360 degrees, the sunset over Friday island is one of the best I have ever seen.

Hi, Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with Peddells Thursday Island Tours. That's great to hear that you have enjoyed both of our Ferry Service and the TI Bus Tours, plus a lucky chance to witness special moment of whale breaching too.

A comfortable, scenic, efficient and friendly service from the Torres Strait to mainland Australia! Awesome WiFi and Coffee!!

Peddells Thursday Island Tours is a wholly Australian owned company that provides a year round scheduled passenger ferry service connecting the little port of SEISIA at the top of Cape York with the  commercial and administrative hub of Torres Strait, Thursday Island (traditional name Waibene, also known locally as T.I.).

Perched on an international shipping lane, the island is steeped in history.  Once known as a Port of Pearls during the heady days of the  pearling industry, later playing a pivotal role during WWII and today continuing to develop as a busy trading port and regional administrative hub.  The island’s story is intertwined with the rich cultural history of Torres Strait, a place that has to be experienced first hand, an  essential experience and must see for visitors, an island township a close knit community showcasing the region’s traditions and culture through art and dance at local cafes, public art, galleries and private studios.

Cape York 4WD visitors can go further and top off their holiday with a daytrip or overnight stay on Thursday Island by catching Peddells’  ferry from Seisia Jetty and arriving on T.I in just over an hour!

More about our roots; Peddells Thursday Island Tours has it’s origins in the boat building and pearling industry, in 1980 however the family branched out and eventually became a full service passenger ferry operation furthermore offering visitors a comprehensive bus tour of Thursday Island with local guides and creating a gift store on the jetty with a focus on supporting local Torres Strait and PNG artisans.

The vision to establish a regular ferry connecting T.I. to Cape York, focused on improving life for community members that were regularly crossing the expanse of ocean in dinghies and provide a safer and far more comfortable e alternative. With a wealth of knowledge of these seaways Peddells were able to create an improved experience and put to work their generations of maritime experience to design and build large modern passenger vessels specifically suited to variable local conditions and able to service the region year round.

Peddells Ferry Service has over 55 000 ocean crossings between Thursday Island and Seisia and continues to train local crew promoting them to their own command.  With generations of local maritime knowledge and traditional roots in Torres Strait, Peddells have an enduring commitment to providing the best possible service now and into the future.  For the most comfortable and enjoyable way to cross from Cape York with Thursday Island,  make Peddells ferry and Thursday Island guided T.I. tour your first choice.

“Essentially ocean crossings are at the heart of Peddells TI Tours DNA with our family ancestry spanning from Inner, Western and Central Islands of Torres Strait.”

Ryan Fox makes PLAYERS history with eagle, ace run at TPC Sawgrass' 16th, 17th

Change Text Size

Ryan Fox made a hole-in-one at the 124-yard 17th hole in the first round of THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass on Thursday.

The New Zealander watched as his tee shot landed behind the hole and spun backward into the cup for the first ace on No. 17 of this PLAYERS and the 14th on the iconic hole in tournament history.

Fox claimed a piece of history, all his own, by becoming the first to go eagle-eagle on holes 16 and 17 in THE PLAYERS since records have been kept (1983-present). Moments earlier he had hit his 180-yard second shot to 2 feet, 4 inches from the pin at the par-5 16th.

In going eagle-eagle, Fox went from 1 over to 3 under in a span of about 20 minutes.

Ryan Fox's excellent approach leads to eagle at THE PLAYERS

The 37-year-old Fox, who earned his PGA TOUR card via the DP World Tour top 10, is coming off a final-round 65 and T35 in his last start at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. He also has two missed cuts this season, plus a T41 at the WM Phoenix Open.

"I mean, it's such an iconic hole, and it's an intimidating shot," Fox said of his ace on 17. "I don't care who you are. You get up there, most of the crowd probably either wants you to make a 1 or hit it in the water, so I'm glad to be on the right side of it in that respect.

"When we got to the tee, it was kind of a good number for me," he continued. "It was a nice gap wedge and you know you've got a little bit of a backstop there, and I was pretty chuffed to look up and see it going down the flag, and obviously a little bit of luck for it to come down the slope and go back in, but I'm certainly not complaining."

There were three aces on 17 last year.
