Comedy Icon John Mulaney Announces 2023 Australian Tour

Two-time Emmy Award-winning comedian John Mulaney is set to bring his critically acclaimed stand-up to Australia next year, announcing dates for his 2023 ‘From Scratch’ tour.

Kicking off at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on February 8th, Mulaney’s four-date tour will see him perform at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena before wrapping things up with a show at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 12th.

Mulaney first came to prominence as a writer on  Saturday Night Live , working alongside fellow comedic luminaries such as Bill Hader, where he helped to establish himself as one of the preeminent comedy talents of the era.

Following a number of Emmy nominations over the years, Mulaney took home the Outstanding Music and Lyrics award for co-writing the song ‘Justin Timberlake Monologue’ with Seth Meyers and Timberlake for  Saturday Night Live , and more recent, he took out the Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special category for his Kid Gorgeous at Radio City   special.

In addition to his work as a stand-up comedian and writer, Mulaney has also served as a voice actor for Big Mouth and The Simpsons , has appeared in the likes of Documentary Now! and has become a noted host of Saturday Night Live , having recently joined the esteemed Five Timers Club.

After launching his ‘From Scratch’ tour in the US, Mulaney has been on the receiving end of widespread acclaim across the board, with the tour selling out noted venues such as New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden, and on track to continue this trend in the coming months.

Multi-award-winning comedian and entertainment industry polymath John Mulaney is bringing his signature wit and sharp storytelling to Australia.

Kicking off in Adelaide on February 8th, John Mulaney is touring his highly-anticipated ‘From Scratch’ tour to arenas across the country.

Mulaney is no stranger to global acclaim. His Kid Gorgeous US tour was later released as a Netflix stand-up special and won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special. In 2015 The AV Club called his The Comeback Kid Netflix original the “best hour of his career”. Meanwhile Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly has hailed him as “one of the best stand-up comics alive”.

Mulaney is also a Saturday Night Live regular since he began writing for it in 2008. He’s even hosted the show five times, and recently revealed that the Secret Service had  opened up an investigation on him following jokes he made during his SNL monologue in February 2020.

As a comedy writer, he contributes to  Late Night With Seth Meyers, and he’s been tapped for the Documentary Now! mockumentary television series, and Netflix’s Big Mouth . In December 2019 he debuted his own Emmy nominated musical variety special, John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch on Netflix.

Mulaney has also starred on Broadway in Oh, Hello On Broadway , which he wrote alongside Nick Kroll and turned into a podcast series.

The ‘From Scratch’ tour has already sold out dates across North America, from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl. Former Saturday Night Live writer turned stand-up superstar John Mulaney has announced a 2023 Australian tour titled 'From Scratch'.

Two-time Emmy and WGA award-winning writer, actor, and comedian John Mulaney has today announced he will be bringing his From Scratch tour to Australian arenas in February 2023! The tour kicks off in Adelaide at AEC Arena on Feb 8, travels to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Feb 10, Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Feb 11 and concludes at Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre on Feb 12.

In 2012, Mulaney released his Comedy Central special New In Town . In 2015, he released The Comeback Kid , a Netflix original. In 2018, John Mulaney travelled the United States with his sold out Kid Gorgeous tour, which was later released as a Netflix stand-up special and won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Special.

Award winning comedian   John Mulaney   announced today he will be going back on tour solo   with a brand new show.   The stand-up comedy tour   kicks off kicks off on November 2 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY making stops across the U.S. in Columbus, OH; New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL and more before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona Financial Theatre on New Years Eve.  

TICKETS: Tickets will be available starting with an artist presale beginning on Wednesday, September 27. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning on Friday, September 29 at 10AM local time at ticketmaster.com.      

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW: This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories, will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their devices at all times, and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. Well, that escalated quickly.

What started as a five-show, one-weekend tour with Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart in early September, has since become a full-fledged tour for John Mulaney .

The five-time “Saturday Night Live” host just announced an additional 18 shows to his 2023 calendar he’s calling ‘John Mulaney: In Concert.’

In total, Mulaney now has 31 gigs all over North America this year including a trio with Jon Stewart and 11 with Pete Davidson .

And for those keeping score at home, he now has four shows in New York State.

First up, he’s slated to co-headline with Jon Stewart at Westbury’s NYCB Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 .

After that, he’ll hit Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 2 and Troy’s Troy Music Hall on Sunday, Nov. 4.

John Mulaney Announces New Solo Tour

Award-winning comedian  John Mulaney  announced today he will be going back on tour solo with a brand new show. 

The stand-up comedy tour kicks off kicks off on November 2 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY making stops across the U.S. in Columbus, OH; New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL and more before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona Financial Theatre on New Years Eve. 

This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories, will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event.

Pete Davidson is the creator, executive producer, writer and star of Peacock’s critically acclaimed comedy “Bupkis.” Davidson was a cast member on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” from 2014-2022, where his singular Weekend Update features and original music videos garnered millions of views. John Mulaney Sets Six-Night Live Comedy Event at Netflix

John Mulaney is back, and going live.

Netflix announced Monday that the comic will be rolling out his latest twist on the traditional comedy special with a multi-night streaming event, which he's titled  John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in L.A.

The six episodes will unspool live on Netflix over as many nights during the service's Netflix Is a Joke Fest, when, yes, everybody - or at least every major comic - is in town. The special formally debuts May 3, with additional episodes debuting nightly, beginning at 7 p.m. PT, from May 6 to May 10. Mulaney will also be performing at the Hollywood Bowl on May 4 as part of the star-studded festival. 

Each of the live installments will feature Mulaney exploring the city, and will incorporate many of the famous (and not so famous) faces in town. As Netflix describes it, the "comically unconventional show will feature special guests and field pieces shot in Los Angeles." Mulaney will serve as host, co-showrunner and executive producer through his Multiple Camera Productions, while Ashley Edens is credited as his co-showrunner and EP and Dave Ferguson his head writer.

Everybody's in L.A.  continues Mulaney's Emmy-winning partnership with Netflix. His previous specials include  John Mulaney: Baby J  (2023),  The Comeback Kid  (2015) and  Kid Gorgeous  (2018). He also delivered a similarly unconventional, children's musical comedy variety special, titled John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch , during that window. The former Saturday Night Live writer has dabbled on Broadway, too, with his co-creation Oh, Hello , which ultimately made its way to Netflix, and guested on several TV shows, including the most recent season of FX's The Bear .

The news comes as the streaming service continues to experiment with live programming. Its first foray into real-time comedy came in early 2023, when the service debuted Chris Rock: Selective Outrage . To fully event-ize the occasion, Netflix added pre- and post-shows, lining up other household names, including Amy Schumer and Jerry Seinfeld. In the year since, the streamer has added more live event offerings, from the SAG Awards to recent tennis and golf tournaments.

As for the Netflix Is a Joke Fest, it's widely perceived as a flex of the streamer's dominance in the stand-up arena. Though rivals have been acquiring buzzy specials, including Alex Edelman's Just for Us on Max, Netflix devotes 10 days in May to remind the larger comedy community and its fans of both its reach and its roster, with some 300 shows across 35-plus Los Angeles venues. Everyone from Chris Rock to Matt Rife is set to participate.
