Episode plot [ ]

At the Pokémon School, Kiawe confirms to others that he will be assisting Olivia during the vacation. Lana mentions that it is important to be learning from the master, to which Mallow notes she is the one that knows that the best. Sophocles wonders about Ash's plans. Ash confirms, but just as he is to say, Lillie greets everyone, surprising them to see the active Magearna by her side. The Pokémon greet Magearna, while Rotom takes photos of it. The classmates congratulate Lillie, who attributes the success to Zoroark. Lillie takes a pause, and reveals she wants to go on a journey with her family, to find her father. Her friends are surprised, while Lillie explains Magearna will show the way. In fact, just as Magearna woke up, Lillie hugged it, causing her Z-Ring to glow. A flash was shot into Magearna, who shot a purple beam. Lillie and Gladion wondered what was going on, to which Magearna pointed to Mohn's picture. Zoroark became happy, and Gladion realized Magearna pointed the way where their father was. Lillie was overjoyed, and went to call their mother.

Ash applauds Magearna, while Lillie adds that Lusamine has resolved herself to find her husband, and will not return after that. She and her brother decided to accompany her, sharing the same feelings. Mallow hopes for her return, to which she confirms. Sophocles, Lana and Mallow are relieved to hear that, which makes Ash ponder his thoughts as he realized that he should wait to tell everyone about his plans to leave Alola as well. At Bewear's den, Bewear feeds Team Rocket with honey, as does Mareanie with Stufful and Mimikyu. Suddenly, they received a call from the HQ. Jessie states they can wait, as they haven't finished their meal, or even want to see the secretary or her Alolan Meowth. Suddenly, Mimikyu presses the button, activating the video link. The boss greets Team Rocket, who immediately go in front of the screen, out of their surprise. He asks of them to return to the HQ, much to Team Rocket's surprise. Matori explains they have been withholding information about their progress in Alola for too long. Her Alolan Meowth mutters something, to which Meowth takes offense to, as it does not believe the trio did anything notable. The boss anticipates great things from the trio, and logs out.

Team Rocket start thinking what will they do. As Stufful and Mimikyu argue, and Mareanie breaks their fight, Team Rocket worry a bit. As the bell rings, Kukui reminds that tomorrow the vacations will start. He hopes all of them will chase after their dreams. As the group exits the school, Lillie sees her limo driver, and remembers she has to go shopping with her mother, to buy the necessary supplies. Before she walks away, Mallow asks of her to take her recipe - a special dish designed for Snowy. Lillie is happy, and promises to take the recipe tomorrow. As Lillie walks away, Mallow mutters the plan is working, and smiles with the rest. At the den, Team Rocket is packing up. Jessie reminds James to tell Mareanie about the thing. James asks did she do the same with Mimikyu, to which she denies, but believes Mimikyu to be a tough sort. Suddenly, Mareanie walks into the room, and looks at all the crates. Meowth and Jessie encourage James to tell her. James walks to Mareanie, and tells her they will be going to HQ soon. Mareanie imagines she and Mimikyu will accompany them, and glomps James, poisoning him.

James explains Mareanie that she will stay with Mimikyu, Stufful and Bewear. Mareanie, however, is too infatuated to listen to James, and tells Mimikyu, who glows with a malicious aura. Jessie asks of Meowth to explain to Mareanie, but he doubts his words will go through to her. At evening, Ash is walking with Pikachu and Rotom at the beach. Ash looks at the horizon, remarking how beautiful the sunset is. Rotom asks Ash when will he tell others about his departure from Alola. Ash believes he will tell them all tomorrow. Suddenly, Pikachu gets attacked by Team Rocket's Mimikyu. Mimikyu fires Shadow Ball, to which Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to disrupt the attack. However, Mimikyu continues attacking Pikachu with its tail, who evades the attacks. Pikachu uses Iron Tail, which slams Mimikyu to the sea. As it goes to attack, Mimikyu suddenly sees its reflection in the water and becomes sad. It loses its will to fight and falls into the sea. Ash and Pikachu get worried, and the latter gets Mimikyu out of the sea to the land. Mimikyu stands up, and instead of attacking Pikachu, it wobbles away. Rotom senses Mimikyu is acting differently; Ash wonders if it will find its way home, to which Mimikyu waves goodbye to them.

Ash sees they will have to go home, too. Before they do, Nebby appears behind them. Ash, Pikachu and Rotom are delighted to see it, and hug it. At night, Mimikyu is walking through the forest when Meowth encounters it. Meowth wonders where it has been, for even Jessie has been worried about it. Mimikyu utters a cry, and Meowth sees it went to confront Ash and Pikachu. Meowth reminds life is tough for Pokémon. He hears Mimikyu saw its reflection in the water, and that its rage would accomplish nothing whatsoever. Meowth believes it is the time to look upwards, to which Mimikyu cheers itself up. A moment later, Mimikyu sleeps with Marenie and Stufful. James visits Mareanie, and reminds her that this was like a good home for all of them. Also, James tells Mareanie that they'll be back in Alola one day and promises her that it will happen. Thus, he places Team Rocket's Z-Ring on her head, asking her to take care of this den. After saying goodbye to Mareanie, He joins with Jessie, Meowth and Wobbuffet, who are about to leave on their balloon. They admit to Bewear that this was a comfortable place they have stayed in. The four of them bow down and thanked her for taking them in during their time in Alola, but start panicking when Bewear extends her arms. However, they feel fuzzy when she hugs them all.

As they go aboard the balloon, Meowth translates Bewear's question if they are going to the Kanto region. They confirm this, to which Bewear takes the balloon and tosses it up to the sky to give Team Rocket a great push. Next morning, Lillie visits Aina's Kitchen. However, she gets enveloped in a bubble, for Kiawe, Lana, Sophocles and Mallow have surprised her. In fact, this is a surprise party before her departure. Inside, the Pokémon eat many meals, but their trainers do not, for they are still waiting for Ash. As they wonder if Ash got distracted, they hear a loud roar. Outside, they find Ash, Pikachu and Rotom atop of Nebby, who is descending down from the sky. He greets everyone, and explains Solgaleo visited him last night. He went atop of Solgaleo, who carried him through the Ultra Wormhole. He adds they visited a strange world, where they helped an Ultra Beast in there. Despite Ash's bad explanation, Rotom goes to show them the footage. Others add Rotom is a huge help, to which Rotom tells Lusamine said the same thing - as of today, it is an employee of Aether Paradise.

Ash explains they went to Aether Paradise with Kukui, to show the scientists over there the video that Rotom made. Rotom showed the data to Burnet, Wicke, Faba and Lusamine, who were amazed by Rotom's capabilites. Lusamine asked Rotom would it like to work in Aether Foundation, surprising it. Rotom was surprised, but Burnet believed with their cooperation, it could become the greatest Pokédex in the world. Rotom was thrilled, and looked to Ash, who reminded its dream was coming true. Ash finishes the story, and sees it is time for Solgaleo to leave. Ash looks to his friends, and explains one more thing, he will be going back home to Pallet Town. His friends are in shock, but Ash explains that it was amazing to go to Alola, meet such great friends and enroll in the Pokémon School, which he claims has been the best. However, Ash tells his friends that he now knows it was time for him to return to Kanto and hang out in Pallet Town for a while then travel to a new place. Ash explains to his friends about his beliefs that if he keeps traveling that he'll not only meet even more new people and Pokémon but also make him a better Trainer in order to push himself to become a Pokémon Master someday. Ash's classmates are saddened by this surprising revelation, but they promise to support him in his goal nevertheless.

A moment later, at the docks, Gladion, Lusamine and Lillie, as well as their Pokémon, bid farewell to their colleagues & friends. Lillie sees this is the moment they have to depart. Sophocles promises to bring her a gift from Mossdeep City, when he comes back. Mallow hopes she finds her father soon, and Kiawe reminds to give them a call if something goes wrong, while Lana asks of her to write letters to them. Lillie promises to, and Ash bids her farewell. Lillie shies away a bit as she bids farewell to Ash. Gladion approaches the latter, and the two promise to have a battle if they were to encounter each other. The two promise to, and Rotom states it will take a photo of the entire group. Everyone lines up, and Rotom takes the photo. Later on, Lillie, Gladion, Lusamine, and their the latter starts thinking of her adventures, with bonding over Snowy and Pikachu, rescuing Lusamine from the Ultra Space, the time she was shrunk down , and watched Ash and Pikachu's battle in the Alola League exhibition match.

Goodbye and Thank You, Alola! - Pokémon the Series- Sun & Moon—Ultra Legends - Official Clip

Ash and Pikachu bid farewell to their friends.

In that moment, Lillie sprints ahead, and shouts out to Ash that she is glad to have met him. She thanks him for helping her befriend Pokémon, touch them, care for them and love them again, and Ash thanks her in return.

Early the next morning, Kukui drives Ash and Burnet to the airport. Before leaving for his flight, Ash asks them to take care of his Alolan Pokémon; both Professors promise to do so, in addition to bringing them to the Pokémon School so they can serve as Ultra Guardians. Finally, Kukui tells Ash they will always support him, wherever he goes and whatever he does, and the two Professors embrace Ash as a sign of farewell before he leaves. As the sun rises, Ash is in his plane with Pikachu, thanking the Alola region for his experiences there. Suddenly, the two are surprised to see that their friends have come to bid farewell in their Ultra Guardians outfits, to surprise Ash before he departs. Ash is moved to tears, and waves goodbye to them with Pikachu as they continue their flight back to Kanto.

As the vacation starts, Sophocles goes with Molayne to Mossdeep City. Lana and Mallow support Kiawe, who flies off on his Charizard for Olivia's special training. Lana swears to bring Mallow a fish print of Manaphy, and goes aboard her father's boat. As Mallow is cleaning Aina's Kitchen, she gets visited by Ulu, who has returned home. He passes some flowers to Mallow, and greets his father, Abe, who is pleased to see him having returned. Shaymin takes an interest in the flowers, and smooshes its head into them, transforming into the Sky Form. Mallow follows Shaymin, who comes outside to find more of its kind waiting for it. Mallow understands Shaymin has to go with its friends, and thanks it for being there for her. Afterwards, Shaymin flies off with the rest of its kind, as Tsareena waves goodbye to it.

A silent montage is then shown, showing Mareanie and Mimikyu enjoying their time with Bewear and Stufful, Hau, supported by his grandfather Hala, battling against Island Kahuna Nanu, Guzma training his grunts with Plumeria observing, Rotom making more reports in Aether Foundation alongside Faba and Wicke, Gladion, Lillie and Lusamine continuing their journey to find Mohn, and lastly, Kukui and Burnet sitting on the front porch of their house with Ash's Rowlet and Lycanroc. Burnet rubs her swollen belly, and Kukui places his hand over hers. .and your dreams!

  • Unlike every episode from " Battle Royal 151! " to " Dreams of the Sun and Moon! ", which featured " Dare da? " segments exclusively on the Amazon Prime Video version which were not shown on the original airing or other streaming services such as Hulu, this episode does not feature a "Dare da?" segment at all, even on Amazon.
  • This episode marks the series finale of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon .
  • This is the only episode in the Sun & Moon series where the episode skips directly to the title card, and the instrumental version of the English dub opening theme "The Challenge of Life" only plays during the ending credits.
  • Unlike Pokémon the Series: XY and XYZ , there is no next episode preview for the first episode of the next series following this episode, even on re-released versions such as Hulu Japan, Amazon Prime Japan, the rental DVDs, and reruns on channels such as Kids Station.
  • This is the only episode in the Sun & Moon series not to feature the five-second rerun-only 次回お楽しみに! tag at the end of the episode, even on reruns (such as on Kids Station) and streaming services that normally show it (such as Hulu and TV Tokyo's AniTV). It is also not shown in the Hulu versions of episodes of the following series either.
  • This is the first episode to show a character being pregnant.
  • In addition, instead of "Next Time... A New Beginning!", the final reads a different title "...and your dreams!", which is a reference to the final line of Type: Wild , just like the final reads a different title "And to our own Way". In the English version, the narrator says, "as the dream continues", to justify the title.
  • This is the last episode of the Pokémon anime series to air on Disney XD , before moving to Netflix for Pokémon Journeys: The Series . It is also the final episode of the series to be broadcast on United States television.

As their vacation approaches, our heroes’ plans move closer to reality! Kiawe has decided to assist Olivia with her kahuna duties, while Lana, Mallow, and Sophocles continue to work toward their own goals. Now that Magearna is awake, Lillie and her family are setting out to find Mohn, and Ash is embarking on a new adventure of his own—he wants to see new places and meet new Pokémon! The Pokémon School class, Professor Kukui, and Professor Burnet are sad to see him leave Alola, but they wish him all the best for the future. And with Team Rocket also departing Alola, just what might that future hold?

At the Pokémon School , Kiawe informs the others that he will be training under Olivia while on vacation. Then, Lillie enters the classroom with Snowy and, to everyone's surprise, Magearna . She admits Zoroark was the key and reveals she is accompanying Lusamine and Gladion on a journey to find her father . She explains that, following Magearna's reawakening, its Soul-Heart absorbed energy from her Z-Ring before projecting a beam of light. When it pointed to a photo of Mohn, Gladion and Lillie realized they might be able to find their father. To everyone's relief, Lillie assures her friends that she will return to Alola once she finds him. Ash , however, is aware of his own plans to leave Alola and briefly turns away.

Meanwhile, while enjoying some honey courtesy of Bewear at her den , Team Rocket receives a call from HQ. Jessie and Meowth continue to eat in an attempt to avoid facing Matori and her Meowth , though Mimikyu answers the call. To the trio's shock, the call instead turns out to be from Giovanni , who orders them to return to the Team Rocket HQ immediately. Matori steps into view, adding that the trio have kept Giovanni waiting long enough for results. After Giovanni signs off, Jessie and James look at their Pokémon, thinking about what to do with them.

Later, Professor Kukui farewells his class as they embark on the long vacation break. Ash and his classmates plan to hang after school, though Lillie admits she has a lot to prepare for her upcoming trip. Before she leaves, Mallow requests that she stop by Aina's Kitchen to collect a specially designed recipe for Snowy. Lillie promises to pick it up tomorrow and continues onto her chauffeured car. Everyone grins and Mallow declares that the plan is working.

Team Rocket gets straight into packing up their Alolan HQ. Jessie reminds James that he has to speak to Mareanie about their departure. James retorts that Mimikyu must know as well, though Jessie brushes him off as she admits that Mimikyu is adaptable. Mareanie soon enters the room, examining the moving boxes out of curiosity. James reluctantly approaches Mareanie with the bad news that they will be returning to HQ. However, Mareanie is thrilled as it imagines more time with her Trainer , and she promptly poisons him out of affection. James clarifies that Mareanie and Mimikyu will actually be remaining with Bewear and Stufful . Mareanie fails to understand the news due to her infatuation, making the painful goodbye a much harder task.

While returning home, Ash stops by the shore to marvel at the Alolan sunset. Rotom wonders when Ash will inform his friends about his own departure, and he replies that tomorrow will be the day. Unexpectedly Mimikyu attempts to lash Pikachu with a Shadow Claw , though Pikachu evades in time. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to combat an oncoming Shadow Ball , before swatting its vengeful opponent out to sea with an Iron Tail . Mimikyu attempts to keep itself above the water, but falls in after seeing its own reflection. Pikachu and Ash retrieve the limp Pokémon from the waves. Mimikyu quickly recovers, however its somber retreat leaves Ash and Rotom suspicious of its uncharacteristic behaviour. Ash offers to get it home, though Mimikyu waves at him as it continues to leave. As Ash and Pikachu agree that it's time to go home, another unexpected visitor, Nebby , suddenly appears and greets them.

At night, Meowth catches up to the still sulky Mimikyu to talk things over. Mimikyu explains that it saw its own face while attacking Pikachu earlier. Meowth remarks that nothing good comes from hatred and suggests that it might be time for a change of direction. Mimikyu takes the words to heart and instantly wipes away its tears as it prepares for a new future. Later, Stufful, Mareanie and Mimikyu are all sleeping soundly. James whispers his apologies to Mareanie for having to leave her, and he gifts her the trio's Z-Power Ring as a token of his gratitude. James steps outside where Jessie and the others are waiting to leave. The quartet officially thank Bewear for her hospitality while in Alola. Bewear responds with a large, friendly hug, filling the trio with warmth. Now aboard their balloon, the three bid Bewear a final farewell. She says something to them, and Meowth translates that she's asking if they're heading to Kanto . When they confirm they are, Bewear decides to assist their flight back by using her strength to send them blasting off in the direction of their destination.

The next morning, Lillie keeps her promise and arrives at Aina's Kitchen. However, she gets enveloped in a bubble before Kiawe, Lana , Sophocles , and Mallow happily declare that this is a surprise party. The Pokémon happily enjoy the sweet treats on offer while Mallow and the others are waiting for Ash’s arrival. A loud roar alerts them to something outside – none other than Ash, Pikachu and Rotom riding into view atop of Nebby. Ash apologizes for the delay, admitting that he just returned from an adventure through an Ultra Wormhole . He adds they visited a strange world, where they helped an Ultra Beast they'd never seen before. Despite Ash's vague explanation, Rotom offers to show everyone the footage later. They praise Rotom for always being a huge help, to which Rotom replies that Lusamine said the same thing - as of today, it is an employee of Aether Paradise . Ash informs his friends of his own news – he will be returning to Pallet Town before embarking on another journey towards his ultimate goal, to become a Pokémon Master . Kiawe and the others are taken aback by the surprise confession, though offer their full support.

Before long, it is time for Lillie, Gladion, and Lusamine to embark on their venture to find Mohn. Their colleagues and friends wish the family well from the departure port. Lillie promises to keep in contact with her classmates, slightly shying away as she says goodbye to Ash. Gladion hopes to battle Ash again someday, with the pair shaking on it. Rotom calls for everyone to gather, and it promptly immortalizes the moment with a group photo. The ship soon leaves port, with Lillie and her family waving their friends farewell from an open deck. Lillie is spurred into action by her memories of Ash. She runs to the back of the ship to shout out to Ash that she is glad to have met him because he helped her overcome her fear of touching Pokémon. Ash thanks her in return, waving off his dear friend.

Kukui and Professor Burnet drive Ash and Pikachu down to the airport before dawn the next morning. Before he boards his flight, Ash asks the two Professors to look after the Pokémon he caught in Alola. Kukui is glad to have the Pokémon join the family, adding that he will bring them to school on occasion. He and Burnet pledge to support Ash, whenever and wherever he is. Burnet is brought to tears as she hugs Ash, with Kukui joining the embrace. Ash and Pikachu promptly board their plane, peering out of the window as it takes off. Ash's friends, wearing their Ultra Guardians outfits, soar into view to deliver a wave goodbye and good luck. Ash, moved to tears, bids goodbye to his friends.

As the vacation starts, Sophocles heads off to Mossdeep City with his cousin Molayne . Kiawe flies off on Charizard for his training with Olivia. Later, Lana offers to bring a fish print of Manaphy for Mallow, as she climbs aboard her father 's boat. Mallow returns to Aina’s Kitchen, where she is greeted by her older brother Ulu . He presents her with a bouquet of wild flowers he spotted on his return home. Abe greets Ulu, who affirms that he is returning home for good. Shaymin , meanwhile, takes an interest in the bouquet and promptly changes into its Sky Forme from the Gracidea pollen. Shaymin rushes outside the restaurant, where it is greeted by a group of other Shaymin. Mallow immediately realizes that yet another one of her friends is leaving. With a final nuzzle, Shaymin soars into the sky to join its friends, soon disappearing from view. Back in Bewear's den, Mareanie and Mimikyu are enjoying their time with Bewear and Stufful. Over on Ula'ula Island , Hau , supported by his grandfather Hala , takes on Nanu in a grand trial match. Meanwhile, Guzma is whipping his Team Skull Grunts into shape with some battle training, with Plumeria observing. Rotom is already making remarkable progress with its research at Aether Paradise, but its findings are overwhelming Faba and Wicke . Aboard their ship, Lillie's family members chat with each other. Finally, Kukui is by his wife’s side as she lies on a foldout chair. She holds her swelled belly, and Kukui places his hand over hers, indicating that they're expecting a baby .

Pokémon GO

GO Beyond: The Pokémon GO journey continues beyond

Since we began our journey together over four years ago, Pokémon GO has evolved in so many ways. From the addition of battles—Raid Battles, Trainer Battles, and Team GO Rocket battles—to the discovery of over 600 different Pokémon that can be encountered in the game, the world of Pokémon GO has continued to change and expand in exciting, new ways.

The week of Monday, November 30, 2020, Pokémon GO will GO Beyond. We’ll be making big changes to how Trainers can level up and implementing Seasons, a new way to experience in-game events. Not only that, but Pokémon originally discovered in the Kalos region will be coming to Pokémon GO!

Level-up redesign coming soon; level cap increased to 50!

For the first time since the game’s launch, leveling up in Pokémon GO is getting rebalanced. There have been many features added and changes made to the game over the years, and we’ve revisited them to make leveling more fun than ever.

Trainers who have reached level 40 will soon have the opportunity to level up to level 50! Be one of the first to earn bragging rights as a level 50 Trainer—that is, if you’re up for the challenge.

For players who haven’t reached level 40 yet, you’ll find leveling up easier than ever before with adjustments to the various ways you can earn XP!

Read more here .

Experience Pokémon GO in a new way with Seasons

We’ve learned a lot from running both live and in-game events in Pokémon GO these past few years. We’re excited to put all we’ve learned to work in a brand-new way of experiencing in-game Pokémon GO events: Seasons.

Pokémon originally discovered in the Kalos region are coming

So far in Pokémon GO, we’ve encountered Pokémon originally discovered in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Galar. Starting Wednesday, December 2, 2020, we’ll be meeting Pokémon first discovered in the region where dreams and adventures begin—Kalos! With the recent arrival of Mega Evolution to Pokémon GO, it feels timely that Pokémon originally discovered in Kalos—the region where Mega Evolution was first discovered—will be making their debut.

12 Days of Friendship event

To prepare for these exciting developments, there will be a series of exciting bonuses available TODAY as we kick off our 12 Days of Friendship event! After the GO Beyond update goes live, there’ll also be lots to do in December to help you take advantage of all the changes, such as December Community Day and fun holiday events!

Since 2016, a lot has changed, both in the real world and in Pokémon GO. What hasn’t changed, however, is the fact that we have each other and our Pokémon. As Pokémon GO has grown, so have we—as Trainers, as a community, and as people. The game has grown beyond our wildest imaginations, and we’re thrilled to see it continue strong four years later. It wouldn’t have been possible without all of you.

Now it’s time to GO Beyond—together!

Please be aware of your surroundings and follow guidelines from local health authorities when playing Pokémon GO. Upcoming events are subject to change. Be sure to follow us on social media, opt in to receiving push notifications, and subscribe to our emails to stay updated. A sasquatch eats berries in a hilly wilderness in Sasquatch Sunset

Gross-out humor reached its apex in 2010’s Jackass 3D , when the boys slingshotted a ripened port-a-potty 100 feet into the air, and a bungee-cord bounce sent fecal matter splattering all over Steve-O — in glorious 3D, no less! That was it. There was nowhere else to go. Or so I believed.

Sasquatch Sunset has upended comedic history.

The new comedy from filmmaker brothers David and Nathan Zellner stars Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough, though you wouldn’t know it without seeing their names on the poster; they’re both outfitted in cryptid costumes that conceal everything but their eyes. It’s really them, movie stars, roaming the woods in big hairy prosthetics. Like the apes in 2001: A Space Odyssey , the movie’s small pack of four sasquatches is on the verge of a new phase of evolution as they unlock the possibilities of the world and their own bodies. This leads them to defecate without restraint, make feral love in the open, and occasionally fondle their dongs. No bodily function goes untapped in Sasquatch Sunset , which happens to be a meditative communion with North America’s glorious woodland.

Sasquatch Sunset is extreme even for the Zellners, who are experts in thwarting expectations and upending movie tropes. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter , their biggest breakout, stars Rinko Kikuchi as a Tokyo office drone drawn to Minnesota, supposedly in search of the bag of money buried in the snow by the characters in the Coen brothers’ neo-noir Fargo . Twisting urban legend into fantastical docudrama, the film earned indie cult status by threading quirk through tragedy to spin up a genre-defying odyssey. Their follow-up, 2018’s Damsel , let Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, and a tiny horse go ham on the Western genre. While less successful as commentary, the romp was pure Zellners — wicked funny, experimental, and eye-catching. Sasquatch Sunset continues the arc, as the brothers both broaden their humor and find a way to be even less accessible.

There is no dialogue in Sasquatch Sunset , and little plot. More National Geographic documentary than Harry and the Hendersons , the film follows the four Bigfoots over a year as their senses blossom and urges take hold. Eisenberg and Keough’s sasquatches already have a son (Christophe Zajac-Denek of Twin Peaks: The Return ), but the pack’s alpha male (Nathan Zellner) is randy. Through grunts and howls, the humanoids negotiate their societal norms, paving the way for Keough and Zellner’s sasquatches to graphically, as the Bloodhound Gang would put it , “do it like they do on the Discovery Channel.” Keough’s sasquatch winds up pregnant, Zellner’s has a sexual awakening, and Eisenberg ends up introspective, ruminating in silence as his companions bang, and staring off into the trees as if wondering whether there are any more of them out there.

Cinematographer Mike Gioulakis breathes life into Sasquatch Sunset ’s quiet stillness with his sun-soaked landscapes — the California redwoods are as much of a far out, man spectacle as the infinity of the night sky. And as an examination of the dawn of man that still brushes up against the existence of modern(-ish) mankind, Sasquatch Sunset occasionally connects with something profound about how we became the violent, vulgar, curious, loving beings we should all admit we are.

Where viewers’ mileage will vary is in the aggressive punctuation of introspective moments with absolutely profane humor. I will never unsee Eisenberg’s sasquatch having an explosive diarrhea episode all over a street after eating the wrong kind of berries. Or watching Keough go ape on her dangling breasts to firehose milk in every direction. Or a sasquatch live birth. The practical effects in Sasquatch Sunset are… astounding.

Three sasquatches overlook a forest vista in Sasquatch Sunset

There is a point to all of this. While the Bigfoots live off the land, they know little about their surroundings. Everything is a “first” in the wild, and the Zellners want us to feel it. How do you eat a fish if you’ve never seen one before? The sasquatches pop a few like water balloons. How do you care for a baby without any instruction? Smack it until it burps. What the hell is a mountain lion? A sex object, at least at first. The Zellners are right to imagine their sasquatches’ quest for survival as complete chaos, walkouts be damned.

Reactions to Sasquatch Sunset ’s Sundance Film Festival premiere called it everything from a masterpiece to an utter misfire . I can’t imagine the Zellners would want it any other way; their vision is clear, and zero concessions were made to tame the backwoods journey into a whimsical, Disney Plus-ready drama. No, this is how it would really be, and the laughs (horrors?) within might even make Steve-O squint.

Is Sasquatch Sunset a good movie? A bad one? I will say I approve of it. I wanted to vomit three or four times before the credits rolled, but in an era where even indie films can feel like four-quadrant efforts on the cheap, what a relief that something so aggressively sick and sweet exists.

Sasquatch Sunset opens in a few major cities on April 12, and expands to a nationwide release on April 19.

Innovative Pokemon Fans Showcase “Pokebug Boxes” Featuring Real-Life Bugs

P okemon enthusiasts have once again astounded the gaming community with their ingenuity, as two fans recently unveiled their remarkable creation known as “Pokebug boxes.” These inventive boxes incorporate real-life bugs into a concept inspired by the beloved Pokemon franchise, capturing the attention of fans worldwide.

Creative fusion of interests

Platonicplacebo, a Reddit user, shared the Pokebug box creations online, revealing a collaboration between their passion for laser cutting and their friend’s expertise in bug pinning. This unique partnership resulted in intricately designed boxes housing pinned bugs, resembling authentic Pokemon cards. The combination of craftsmanship and entomology expertise has led to the creation of these captivating Pokebug boxes, offering a fresh perspective on fan-made Pokemon memorabilia.

Unique features and future prospects

Each Pokebug box features different specimens, such as the striking blue morpho butterfly and the intriguing five-horned rhino beetle, accompanied by fascinating facts about the depicted bugs. Platonicplacebo expressed intentions to explore the possibility of commercializing their creation, although details regarding availability remain pending. While the current designs utilize real pinned bugs, there is speculation about the potential inclusion of replicas resembling popular bug-type Pokemon in future iterations. As anticipation builds among enthusiasts, the prospect of acquiring these innovative creations is met with enthusiasm, adding a new dimension to the Pokemon fandom.

Continued evolution of the Pokemon franchise

Despite fluctuations in Pokemon TCG sales following the release of Scarlet and Violet, the franchise maintains its stronghold in the gaming industry. Set in Lumiose City from the Kalos region, the game promises to immerse players in a nostalgic yet exhilarating journey. With each new installment, the Pokemon universe expands, captivating both seasoned fans and newcomers alike, ensuring a vibrant and ever-growing community.

The emergence of Pokebug boxes showcases the boundless creativity within the Pokemon fandom, where enthusiasts seamlessly blend their passions to craft remarkable creations. As the franchise continues to evolve with new releases and innovations, the fervor among fans remains unwavering. With the promise of future endeavors and the allure of fan-made creations, the world of Pokemon continues to inspire imagination and exploration, proving that the journey to catch ’em all is as captivating as ever.
