Heineken launches cruzcampo lager on draught into the uk.

Heineken has revealed plans to launch its Spanish lager brand Cruzcampo on draught into pubs and bars across the UK.

cruise campo

The launch, which takes place this week seeing the popular lager brand rolling out across the UK on-trade, is being supported by a multi-million-pound marketing campaign across TV and social media.

The 4.4% ABV lager, which is brewed in the UK, will be available exclusively on draught at “an accessible price point”.

Speaking exclusively to the drinks business , Cruzcampo senior brand manager Christopher Buckwell, said: “A team of brewers from our Cruzcampo facility in Seville worked very closely with our Heineken UK brewing team over the course of many months to ensure the beer produced was aligned to our Cruzcampo brand in Spain. It will be brewed in Manchester.”

Additonally discussing the launch, beer writer Roger Protz shared via Twitter that Cruzcampo will be brewed at Heineken’s “Royal Brewery” in Manchester, essentially making the beer a British beer, but simply using its Spanish branding.

Upon querying as to whether the recipe would stay the same as the one available in Seville, or be adapted, Buckwell told db that the “version” of Cruzcampo that will roll out across the UK has been made “with a UK audience in mind” and explained: “Spain offers variations of Cruzcampo. We have worked closely with our Spanish colleagues to ensure we are creating an authentic, refreshing version of Cruzcampo lager made with a UK audience in mind.”

Buckwell stated: “Cruzcampo will be available exclusively to the UK on-trade on draught initially and it will be available in the off trade from the autumn,” and hinted that the reason behind this decision was because Heineken believes pubs and bars are “the best place for consumers to taste their first experience of Cruzcampo” prior to it hitting the shelves of supermarkets and off licences.

Despite Heineken staying vague on where exactly will it be available across the on-trade, it has revealed that it has “already seen a great response from publicans for Cruzcampo” and has “already had hundreds of outlets sign up as stockists” and hopes to see “more outlets coming on board over the summer months”.

Matt Saltzstein, Heineken UK beer brand unit director said: “The launch of Cruzcampo will see Heineken UK continue its commitment to support the on-trade, helping operators meet consumer needs. Holidaymakers returning from Spain, particularly from the Cruzcampo home of Seville, have been calling for the brand to be brought to the UK and even reached out on social media asking for it to be launched here. As the number one draught beer in Spain, Cruzcampo will serve customers the ‘Spirit of Sevilla’ by bringing friends and family together for some relaxing quality time.”

Saltzstein added: “Mainstream lager has the highest number of drinkers across all beer categories, accounting for one in every three pints. While some consumers may have to make their money work harder, they still want to discover new brands that feel special. Offering a premium quality experience but at an accessible price point on the bar is critical to meeting these demands. Cruzcampo is an affordable trade up option for lager drinkers who enjoy discovering new experiences.”

As well as what Heineken has admitted is a “significant” marketing spend, the brand is set to be supported in pubs and bars with new fonts, glassware and PoS” as well as the chance for people to enter prize promotion activity.

Heineken has been contacted regarding its UK launch of Cruzcampo, however the drinks giant has stayed silent on its exact fiscal investment and has only revealed that the beer will be supported by “a major multi million pound marketing campaign” to help drive awareness.

Which lager brands Cruzcampo will rival is yet to be seen, but, as Heineken has just offloaded its Kronenbourg 1664 brand’s UK rights to Carlsberg this week too, this could be a strategic move for the drinks giant or simply a way of retaining its brewing capacity for its UK brewery.

Buckwell added: “We know that consumers are looking for discovery and new brands but are also mindful of the cost of living,” and explained: “A mainstream lager brand, such as Cruzcampo, offers a premium experience at a more accessible price point to help drive sales in outlet.”

The History of Our Brand

The history of Cruzcampo, brewers since 1904, is a story of joyful living and taking pleasure in the little everyday things. Isn’t it better to see the glass as half full rather than half empty? And even better if it’s full of Cruzcampo beer made with all the know-how of our MBs. We are proud to have the most genuine creative talent on our team… it’s in Cruzcampo’s DNA, and of course we want to share that with you.

At La Fábrica eating and drinking is an art: concerts, exhibitions, events, artists of various disciplines… craft and the urban style are our essence and our motivation. And all this in an incomparable place, the Bohemian neighbourhood of Soho in Malaga, an inspiring and creative district that motivates our master brewers to bring their best creations to life.

Cruzcampo was born in 1904, the result of a dream shared by two brothers, Tomás and Roberto Osborne. They wanted to develop a beer that would be perfect for the warm southern climate, so they moved to Seville, where the high-quality water is similar in composition to the Pilsen River in the Czech Republic, which gives its name to that type of beer. In 1904, the Cruz del Campo Brewery found a unique strain of yeast, which gives its beer a smooth bitterness and a herbal and fruity aroma. This led to the first Cruzcampo beer, with properties and an essence that are still intact. And the fact is that Cruzcampo follows a unique production process, chilled and unpasteurized, to ensure maximum freshness. Furthermore, the Cruzcampo ritual of serving the beer at -2° Celsius and without excess foam, allows you to enjoy this beer to the maximum.

Today, Cruzcampo still maintains the innovative spirit of its founders. And at La Fábrica de Cruzcampo – Microbrewery in Soho, Malaga , exclusive varieties of specialty craft beer are produced, inspired by Malaga’s Soho district and in #constant_evolution.

Come to La Fábrica and celebrate all that is authentic with us. Only room for the beerst here!

La Romana cruise port

Region Bahamas - Caribbean - Bermuda

Local Time 2024-03-28 16:41

Port La Romana cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from La Romana, Dominicana. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

La Romana is a port city ranked as Dominican Republic's 7th-largest by population (around 130,000, metro around 215,000). The city is located opposite Catalina Island and approx 80 km (50 mi) from Santo Domingo de Guzman (Dominicana's capital). The town's patron saint is Santa Rosa de Lima.

Alternatively, some cruise ships may also dock at Punta Cana - located approx 80 km (50 mi / road distance) to the east of la Romana. Punta Cana is a resort town famous for its beaches and balnearios (seaside resorts). From Punta Cana and La Romana (as cruise shore The road distance between Punta Cana and La Romana (Dominicana's main cruise port) is approx 80 km (50 mi) to the west.

From Punta Cana (as cruise shore excursions) are offered activities like windsurfing, speedboating, snorkeling and scuba diving, catamaran and sailboat tours, deepsea sport fishing, banana boat rides, swimming with dolphins-sharks-stingrays, floating spas, party boats and private yacht charters, also land-based tours (safaris, dune buggying, horseback riding) and cruises to nearby small islands (like Saona and Catalina ). Punta Cana Airport serves international flights and by annual traffic (2,4+ million passengers) is ranked the Caribbean's second-busiest (after San Juan Puerto Rico 's Luis Munoz Marin Airport/aka Isla Verde).

The 2000-inaugurated La Romana Airport is located close to several other towns, including San Pedro de Macoris and the capital city Santo Domingo. The city is a hub for Dominican Republic's growing tourism industry, with several nearby beach town resorts, such as Bayahibe, Casa de Campo, Dominicus, also smaller resort villages.

The cruise port was inaugurated in 2002 with the arrival of Costa Cruises ship Costa Marina ( scrapped in 2014 under the name "Club Harmony"). Port's owner and operator (also owner of Casa De Campo International Airport) is Central Romana Corporation. The company invested USD 12 million to extend the existing seaport by over 40,000 m2 (430,000 ft2). The harbor terminal has 2 berths and capacity to handle two big-sized cruise liners simultaneously.

La Romana is also used as a turnaround port (homeport) due to the ability to serve fly-cruises (mainly from the UK). Embarking passengers bypass Dominicana's Customs and Immigration and board their boat in just 12 min after airport arrival.

For winter season 2017-2018, here were homeported ships of the cruise companies AIDA (Germany), TUI (Germany) and Marella (UK). The port handled a total of 160 ship calls with 462,880 passengers.

During winter season 2018-2019, the cruise port had scheduled 138 ship calls and handled a total of 395,232 passengers.

In 2023, Port La Romana invested US$15 million to expand its docking facilities to be enabled to accommodate even the world's largest ships - Royal Caribbean 's OASIS-class.

By annual passenger traffic (statistical data 2019), the Caribbean's top-10 largest airports are:

  • Luis Munoz Marin Airport/aka Isla Verde ( San Juan Puerto Rico ) with ~9,5 million pax
  • Punta Cana Airport ( Punta Cana Dominicana /La Romana) with ~7,2 million pax
  • Jose Marti Airport ( Havana Cuba ) with 5,7+ million pax
  • Sangster Airport ( Montego Bay Jamaica ) with ~4,8 million pax
  • Lynden Pindling Airport ( Nassau Bahamas ) with ~4,1 million pax
  • Las Americas Airport ( Santo Domingo Dominicana ) with ~4 million pax
  • Piarco Airport ( Port-of-Spain Trinidad ) with 2,8+ million pax
  • Queen Beatrix Airport ( Oranjestad Aruba ) with 2,5+ million pax
  • Pointe-a-Pitre Airport ( Pointe-a-Pitre Guadeloupe ) with ~2,5 million pax
  • Grantley Adams Airport ( Bridgetown Barbados ) with ~2,3 million pax

This explains why these port cities are used as seasonal turnaround ports for homeporting (roundtrip itineraries) by many major cruise companies with ship deployments in the Caribbean.

La Romana cruise terminal

Cruise ships in La Romana dock at two wharves located between the town and Casa de Campo (golf resort).

The cruise port's two berths (both on La Romana River / aka Rio Dulce) were inaugurated in 2002.

At the eastern wharf can dock vessels with LOA length 350 m (1148 ft). At the western wharf can dock vessels with LOA length 250 m (820 ft).

The port can also accommodate 2 additional ships at the anchorages at Catalina Island and in front of Casa de Campo.

Cruise lines usually offer complimentary shuttle bus service (approx 6 km / 4 mi, or 15 min ride) from the cruise port to the resort.. The town itself has no tourist attractions and is located at 15-min walking distance from the dock. Taxis at the pier are also available.

Although Spain is traditionally known as a land of wine drinkers, more and more people are beginning to drink beer instead. It is thought that this is down to the fact that the country has seen a large number of microbreweries open, particularly in areas like Catalonia. These microbreweries are helping the industry to grow and transform. The microbrewery owners are getting more creative with hop combinations and spices, giving Spanish beer a unique flavour that it has lacked in the past. Beer festivals in Spain One of the most popular beer festivals in Spain is the Barcelona Beer Festival. It is an annual meet up for all craft beer enthusiasts and has been known to attract over ten thousand visitors. There are over three hundred different beers to taste, including both local beers and beverages from other countries. It is thought that around fifty five of these beers actually come from the microbreweries based in Catalonia. As well as getting to sample some of Spain’s finest beers, visitors can also listen to lectures from local experts and learn more about Spain’s drinking culture. Spanish fiestas and sporting events Every year hundreds of fiestas, carnivals and parades take place in Spain. Often they celebrate religious holidays like Christmas and Easter. These colourful and lively events would not be complete without a vast spread of traditional Spanish tapas, jugs full of fruity sangria and ice cold beers. Traditionally alcoholic beverages like sangria and beer would be consumed at sporting events like bull fighting. However more recently Spain has clamped down on drinking alcohol in public and many regions in Spain have now banned bull fighting due to animal welfare controversy. If you are looking for the best selection of Spanish beers then you have certainly come to the right place. With both traditional favourites and unique offerings, we are sure you will find something that takes your fancy from our fantastic selection of alcohol from Spain.

Authentic and refreshing beer. I usually get the cans as this bottle size is too big - once opened it can go flat if not drunk quickly!

Good quality lager

nice and refreshing with a smooth and crisp finish. cruzcampo never disappoints

Good all round lager

Nothing standout but nice all the same. Not gassy like some lagers, goes well with lime or lemonade. Would buy again.

Really enjoyable lager. Not too hoppy tasting and not too light, it was just right. Refreshing, best served chilled, not too gassy like some beers. Will definitely buy again. Shared the large bottle with my husband and we both agreed it was a winner!

Not the best flavour, not the worst. Very much a middle of the road beer, with not a particularly distinctive flavour.

Lovely light beer

First time trying this and enjoyed it- it's light and refreshing

Sightseeing:

Completed in 2000, Casa de Campo has a modern, 400-berth marina, complete with a shipyard. Surrounding this harbor are over 70 restaurants, shops, bars, and homes. Most activities available at Casa de Campo are open to cruise-ship passengers.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

There is a public beach though near the village of Bayahibe. Do not expect to see people handing out drinks and clean washrooms. It is safe but not as well kept as the private beaches. Most good beaches are only available through the resorts. Unlike other islands the beaches here are not free to go to. It is highly recommended that you book a day pass with one of the hotels if you want a beach day. Otherwise book through the ship here.

Taxi services are available but potentially dangerous when dealing with unlicensed drivers. In all cases, it's a good idea to go with a licensed driver and negotiate a price for your destination before you leave. Good drivers are often easy to identify by licenses worn around the neck, uniforms, and clean air conditioned vehicles. When calling a taxi company, you will be given a number to verify your driver. When being picked up, make sure your driver gives you the right number as 'false pickups' are often a prelude to robbery.

Traffic is chaotic at times, and rentals are expensive.

La Romana Cruise Port: Tips, Attractions and Beaches

The La Romana cruise port is in Dominican Republic’s third largest city. It is one of the few active cruise ports in the country.

It is mostly used by Carnival cruise ships and related brands such as Princess and Holland America because the company built the port. But this popularity is rather limited because La Romana is a small port.

Carnival makes a small number of stops there throughout the year. They are typically eight-day southern Caribbean cruises that embark from Florida and that also visit Grand Turk, Aruba and Curaçao. Some eastern Caribbean cruises go there as well.

Cruise visitors may find that the main attraction in La Romana is the resort village of Casa de Campo, a 7,000-acre complex that features golf, tennis, skeet shooting, equestrian, beaches and more. It is accessible from cruise ships via taxis and excursion buses.

Like other major destinations in Dominican Republic such as Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, La Romana is a destination that emphasizes plenty of activities in confined areas.

Where is La Romana?

La romana cruise port map.

La Romana is on the southeastern coast of Dominican Republic. It is 80 miles east of Santo Domingo and 48 miles west of Punta Cana. Its location within a 50-minute drive of Punta Cana offers some opportunities for shore excursions to attractions in that famous resort destination including dolphin encounters.

Quick Travel Tips

Attractions and shore excursions.

Like most private ports in the Caribbean, La Romana offers shopping and restaurants owned by the cruise line. Visitors who want to do more than shop will find other things to do elsewhere.

The region’s most popular cultural attraction is Altos de Chavón, a 15th century artists’ village next to Casa de Campo. It has hosted performers such as Frank Sinatra, Santana, Sting, Plácido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Heart and Air Supply, according to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism.

The village was designed by former Paramount movies set designer Roberto Copa. He also created movie sets for famous Italian film director Federico Fellini.

Some excursions to Altos de Chavón also go to Cuevas de las Maravillas (caves of wonders). Visitors go by footpath 25 feet underground to view stalactites and stalagmites. Another highlight is a collection of about 500 paintings by inhabitants on the island when Columbus first arrived.

The four-hour tour has prices starting at $70 per person plus discounts for children. Some tours are less expensive if they don’t include the cave.

For anyone willing to take the time, Carnival offers a one-hour ride to Punta Cana for the Dolphin Island Park and dolphin encounters. Prices vary based on the program, but they usually start at about $150 per person, which is typical for most dolphin encounter parks in the Caribbean.

Snorkelers and divers will want to visit the Guadalupe underwater museum, which can also be seen by snorkeling above it.

Another popular spot is the living museum of the Cara Merchant shipwreck, which once belonged to the famous Captain Kidd who was sentenced to death after being accused of being a pirate.

A marine coral reef nature preserve surrounds the six-square-mile Isla Catalina, which attracts thousands of divers and snorkelers each year.

Another one-hour excursion drive will go to Hoyo Azul Cave. This natural pool with crystal clear blue water is at the base of a giant cliff. The excursion also includes educational trails and animal encounters.

For golfers, Teeth of the Dog designed by Pete Dye has been called the top golf course in the Caribbean and among the top 100 in the world ranked by Golf Magazine. It is located at the Casa de Campo resort. The resort also has art galleries that display painters and sculptures from around the Dominican Republic.

Three other nearby Dye-designed courses are Dye Fore, The Links, and La Romana Country Club. Another option is La Estancia, designed by his son, P. B. Dye.

Beaches Near the Port

A Catalina Island beach break for five hours has a starting cost of $95 per person with discounts for children. This beach break is more expensive than most because of a 35 minute road ride.

Saona Island is accessible by boat from Bayahibe and is popular for its beaches and excursions on catamarans and speedboats. Lucky tourists will be joined by dolphins that swim and leap nearby. Like Catalina Island, this excursion cost about $95 per person but includes an open bar. Again like Catalina, visitors take a bus ride followed by a boat ride.

Visitors may have better luck and spend less money by going to a beach on their own. Several beaches are near the cruise docks and accessible by shuttle or taxi depending on the location. They include Casa de Campo and a 10-minute taxi ride to Bayahibe Beach.

Two of the best beach options for anyone taking a taxi are Playa El Caleton and Playa Bayahibe. El Caleton is close and decent. Bayahibe is farther and better.

Playa El Caleton is just less than two miles from the cruise terminal and a better choice for anyone who wants a quick visit. Bayahibe is a 25-minute drive and has more to offer. It’s also often available as a cruise excursion.

Two smaller options are Playa Caleta at five miles and Playa El Minitas at four miles from the terminal.

Shopping and Dining

Altos de Chavón has a small number of shops and restaurants. Another shopping and dining option is The Marina, a village within Casa de Campo.

Transportation / Getting Around

La Romana transportation options are simple and clear thanks to its small size: taxis, shuttles and excursion buses.

Passengers will find taxis and shuttles at the docks to take visitors to Casa de Campo, the Marina and Altos de Chavon. Taxi rates are often negotiable, so ask for a price before getting into the cab.

In our experience, negotiating taxi rates in a cruise port is a risky business, especially at the end of the day when the ship is almost ready to leave. We recommend taking an excursion bus whenever possible.

La Romana and other locations in the Dominican Republic are blessed with warmer weather than average temperatures in the Caribbean throughout the year.

Daily highs average in the mid to upper 80s Fahrenheit and break 90 degrees from June through September. Rainfall is lowest during this time as well.

The worst time to visit is November and December when average rainfall reaches nine inches a month. La Romana also has a brief rainy season in May.

Basic guide to La Romana cruise port (in the Dominican Republic): discover where cruise ships dock and what's at the cruise terminal, how to explore La Romana, the best things to do, shore excursions, and all you must know.

By: Editor-in-Chief Update: May 28, 2023

The port of La Romana (in the Dominican Republic) has many highlights, such as the stunning islands of Saona and Catalina; the top attractions in Altos de Chavón, Punta Cana, and Santo Domingo; and the numerous beach resorts in Bayahibe and Dominicus.

  • Where is La Romana and cruise ships dock
  • The Cruise Terminal
  • How to explore La Romana
  • Top 15 Things to do
  • Shore excursions (Shorex)

La Romana is a regularly visited cruise port of call in the Caribbean itineraries during the Fall-Winter season, with as many as 395,000 passengers and close to 140 cruise ship visits in the 2018-2019 season.

The cruise port of La Romana has a very appealing character: the area is neat and immaculately kept. On the whole, La Romana is safe. Locals tend to be very friendly but not pushy and speak English reasonably well.

For those cruising with families, there is a lot to do. Cruise passengers with walking difficulties will find it easy to wander around on their own in the La Romana cruise terminal.

Where is La Romana and the cruise terminal

La Romana (a small port city with a population of around 130,400) is in the eponymous southern province of the Dominican Republic. The port city is on the southeast coast of the island, bathed by the Caribbean Sea. The cruise port in La Romana is around 200 miles (340 km) west of San Juan and 421 miles (678 km) north of Aruba .

Thanks to its location, La Romana is a regular port of call in itineraries sailing east and west Caribbean cruises. Cruises to La Romana usually call at popular ports such as Amber Cove , Curaçao , Bonaire , and Grand Turk . Cruise lines like Regent and NCL also call at top ports in the Eastern Caribbean like Antigua , Barbados , St. Lucia , and St. Maarten . Royal Caribbean cruise ships usually include a call at Labadee in their itineraries.

Homeport, embarking and disembarking in La Romana

La Romana is also a turnaround port (or homeport) for many years. The cruise terminal in La Romana is reasonably close to two international airports (La Romana International Airport and Punta Cana Airport), both with excellent worldwide connections. La Romana airport is 5 miles northeast of the cruise terminal and has daily direct flights to and from Miami.

German cruise lines AIDA and TUI use the port to embark and disembark passengers for a few years, and so does Marella (British). Although Carnival Cruise ships regularly visit La Romana, they never used the port as a homeport.

Where cruise ships dock

Cruise ships dock on the mouth of Rio Dulce (known in English as La Romana River). Two large cruise ships can berth simultaneously on two quays (one on each riverbank). The eastern quay has a pier for cruise ships up to 1148 ft (350 m) long, while cruise ships up to 820 ft (250 m) long can dock the western quay.

The western quay is a mixed industrial and cruise pier with very basic services and amenities. By contrast, the eastern dock is for the exclusive use of cruise ships and has an excellent open-air cruise terminal.

What's at La Romana Cruise Terminal

The cruise terminal in La Romana is also known as Sugar Breeze Cruise Terminal. The open-air terminal has a few buildings with services and amenities just yards away from your cruise ship gangway, not more than a 5-minute walk.

Here are the services and amenities you will find at the Sugar Breeze Cruise Terminal :

  • Information desk
  • Shopping area
  • Bar and Coffe Shop
  • Local handicraft stalls
  • Independent shorex meeting point
  • Chu-Chu train to downtown
  • Suttle bus to Altos de Chavón

The exit of the cruise terminal is on the eastern end. By the exit gates, there is an excellent Information Desk . We advise cruise passengers wishing to explore La Romana on their own to check this desk for updated information such as taxi fares and to pick up a map of the area. Bear in mind that you will have to show your shipboard card when re-entering the cruise terminal.

How to explore La Romana on a cruise

Cruise passengers wondering what to do on a cruise to La Romana will find that some attractions are better to enjoy with cruise excursions. That's the case if you wish to explore the highlights of Santo Domingo , enjoy a beach break in Catalina Island , or kayak in the C havón River . But there are experiences that cruise visitors can easily enjoy independently or on their own.

You can easily visit the village of Altos de Chavón , take a beach break in the resorts of Bayahibe and Dominicus , or a walk around downtown La Romana at your leisure. Here are the four possible ways to discover La Romana:

  • Book a Shore Excursion
  • Shuttle bus and Chu-Chu train
  • Taxi and Uber
