Tips for Self-Guided Walking Tours at the University of Toronto (With Map!)

u of t campus tours

Interested in walking tours in the hear of Toronto? I want to share this simple map and tour itinerary with you!

This is a route I generally take through the U of T campus when I lead tours, take my kids for a walk or just want to be surrounded by beautiful scenery in the middle of the city. This walk is excellent because it takes you through the heart of the U of T downtown campus, from Bloor Street to College Street.

Here’s the link

U of T Walk Map by Mike https://goo.gl/maps/Dbm53QqvuHF2

One of the beautiful things about this route is that this walk goes through green spaces with nice buildings all around. In other words it bypasses the busier streets.

The keys elements are:

1. Philosophers Walk – Start by the Alexandra Gates on Bloor St. between the Royal Ontario Museum and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Location: Across the street from 210 Bloor St W. Wikipedia

2. Trinity College – Walking south you arrive at Hoskin Ave and Trinity College. This is a fantastic building. If the interior quad is open go in through the gates on the east side (seems closed often in winter). Address: Trinity College, 6 Hoskin Ave Wikipedia

3. Soldiers’ Tower – One of the prettier landmarks on the walk. Spend some time here looking at the engravings of soldiers names (including the famous soldier-poet John McCrae of In Flander’s Fields fame). Address: Soldier’s Tower, Hart House Circle Wikipedia

4. King’s College Circle / Road – Famous central area with nice view of the CN Tower (great buildings all around including University College and Convocation Hall ). Address: 180 College St. (College and King’s College Rd)

Walk Extensions

Route A / Mike’s map shows a route which entails walking east to Queen’s Park after you reach College St. Transit options from here include the College streetcar and Queen’s Park subway station.

Route B / Alternately, you might want to try walking up Spadina Ave past the Daniel’s Architecture Building or up St. George, with both these routes returning to Bloor St. Transit options from here include the Spadina streetcar and Spadina or St. George stations.

That wraps up my walk!  Hope this is useful to you. I am a proud alumnus of the university and though I attended Scarborough College in the eastern part of the city, you might say I am a devotee of the St. George campus. I will venture by there regularly if I am in the downtown west. If I do I always bring my camera!

If you are interested I lead the Tdot Shots group photo walks and I can be hired to lead private walking tours as well. Do not hesitate to reach out!

Enjoy one of the most beautiful areas of the city!

Explore Harvard

See Yourself at Harvard

Harvard may be the oldest college in the country, but it's certainly not a museum. Our community's spirit and exuberance are alive in every corner of the campus, and we can't wait to show you what makes Harvard a school like no other.

Regardless of whether you can visit campus, there are many ways to explore beautiful Harvard Yard, learn from enthusiastic students, and discover life in historic Cambridge, Massachusetts. Check out the options below.

Visiting Campus

A campus visit consists of a one-hour information session led by an admissions officer and 1-2 current undergraduate students, followed by a one-hour campus tour led by a student. In general, visiting parties are limited to groups of 5.

If you visit campus without registering for a session/tour, you can download a self-guided map to navigate campus and learn about Harvard's landmarks.

SEAS Tours:  Supplemental tours of our School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) are available directly through the school. Click on the link in the section below to learn more and register.

Special Group Visits/Tours: We are able to host groups from college access programs and select high schools on a limited basis. To submit a request, please complete the Group Visit Request Form below. For all other group tour requests, contact the  Harvard University Visitor Center , which offers historical campus tours led by current students. Please note that Visitor Center tour guides are happy to answer questions about their individual experiences at Harvard, but they cannot comment on or answer any questions related to admissions.

A further advisory: Cambridge parking violations start at $25.00, and meters are monitored closely by transportation officers. We do not reimburse visitors for parking tickets you may acquire.

Please call ahead to the parking venue you’re considering, because parking spots fill up quickly during peak season.

The UMRP focuses on expanding awareness of and providing information about our diverse campus community and the application process at Harvard College to minority middle and high school students. Staffed by current undergraduates, the UMRP fields questions about the Harvard College experience, as well as the application process.

The UMRP at Harvard College is not directly involved in the admissions process or any decisions concerning the acceptance of prospective students.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.
