The sink is awesome. I'm using it as a utility sink in my homebrewing beer hobby. Two things would get it to 5 stars. The unit came disassembled without assembly instructions. I was able to figure it out though. Second, it didn't come with a methodology or hardware to attach it to a wall or the floor. It's heavy, but it could still get knocked out of place, especially bathing a larger animal. Ruptured plumbing could result so securing it in some way is important.

Use instructions and diagrams below to properly measure your dog:

Correct crated sizing is very important, especially if you are planning to travel with your pet on an airline.  Airlines can refuse travel to any pet that they feel does not properly fit their crate. A  standard rule of thumb is that when the dog is standing in a normal relaxed position the crate should measure 2 inches above the top of his head.  A visual indicator for the airline attendants who are in charge of getting your dog onto the plane is that they are able to see your dog comfortably stand up and turn around in the crate .

STEP 1:  Measure your dog based on the diagram below

A  = length of the animal from   tip   of the nose to the base of the tail. B  = height of the animal when standing, from top of head (or ears, whichever is higher) to the floor - ears must not touch the top of the kennel when standing. C  = width at the widest point. 

STEP 2: Calculate the size of the crate needed for your dog

The  length  of the kennel must be  equal to A + 4" .  The  height  of the kennel must be   equal to or greater than B + 3" .  The   width  of the kennel must be   equal to C x 2.

*Some helpful hints when measuring your dog:

Hold the measuring tape in one hand and place the free end at the front edge of your dog’s nose pulling it straight back to the base of his tail. This will give you the length measurement for your dog. You will need to add Three (3) inches to allow the dog room to turn around in the  crate .

Place the tape at the top of the shoulder and measure down to the floor to get a proper height measurement. Add Three (3) inches to give the dog plenty of room if he wants to stand up.

Be sure to estimate your dog’s adult size if you order his crate while he is still growing. You can check his breed standard to get an estimate of what size he will reach at maturity to make sure your crate is large enough.

Proper measuring will assure that your pet can comfortably stand, sit, turn around, and lie down in his cage.

Deluxe vs profession comparison.

The differences between the Deluxe models and the Professional crates has to do mainly with its heavy duty door construction. On any crate the door is consistently the weakest point and "Houdini" dogs typically target this area in their attempt to escape. In the Professional series, we have reinforced the door with extra bars, welds and bracing. As an added layer of security in the Professional series we have added a secondary locking plate to the door frame and to add extra value we also include a set of Heavy Duty Handles. Each door has a full-length piano hinge and can be mounted to open left or right. The Professional line of aluminum dog boxes are designed to be the most secure and safest of the Zinger crates.

This is a personal choice but it mainly depends on your intended use and your location. If you need a pet crate for repeat use (for example, repeat travel or anxiety training), an aluminum crate may be best. If you need a pet crate for a single use event (for example, moving), you may find a custom wooden pet crate more affordable and suitable for your needs.

We encourage you to work with an IPATA certified pet travel agent to ensure that you choose the right custom wooden crate for your pet’s travel as different airline carriers have varying requirements. IATA CR-1 crate requirements can be downloaded here . A CR-1 crate is considered a standard crate for pet air travel. It can be constructed from rigid plastic, wood or metals. IATA regulations specify that rigid plastic crates are not suitable for large dogs or dogs that are of a breed classified as aggressive. If your pet is a large dog that will not fit in a plastic crate, you will need a wooden or aluminum crate. A CR-82 crate is required if your dog is of a breed classified by IATA as aggressive. A IPATA certified pet travel agent will inform you if current regulations require your pet to travel in a CR-82 crate. Traveling with your pet can be a pretty exhausting affair with even the smallest of details needing a great deal of attention. If you are planning a long-distance journey by air along with your pet or simply relocating the pet within the country or internationally, it is most likely that your pet will be shipped either as cargo or as excess cabin baggage in case they are accompanying you. Depending upon the size of your pet and airline regulations, you can decide whether to carry your pet along with you as excess cabin baggage or check it in as cargo.Among the very many things that are required to be taken care of for a pet’s safe journey is a secure IATA (International Air Transport Association) specified crate to make their flight comfortable and smooth. Airlines for both domestic and international travel, require IATA-approved crates for pets that are specifically designed keeping in mind their safety and comfort.These crates made in fiberglass, come in semi and small sizes starting from 21 inches in length and range up to giant-sized crates of 48 inches length, to accommodate both small and large breeds of pets.

Why Do I Require An IATA-Approved Crate For My Pet’s Air Travel?

IATA has specified certain guidelines for crates permitted in airlines for pet travel. Specially fabricated out of fibreglass, these crates remain stable, strong, and sturdy on the ground as well as during flight landing and taking off. There are wired steel windows for proper ventilation and two food bowls can be installed in the cage for feeding pets. Also, equipped with detachable wheels, these crates make transportation of the pet easier.

Depending upon the size and weight of the pet, appropriate crates/kennels (also termed as cages) are recommended. A comfortable crate gives enough space for the pet to turn around, sit, stand and lie in a natural position. Cats are pretty much the same size and biologically of smaller built, hence a similar-sized crate can be used for them. However, there is a lot of variation when it comes to sizing and measuring pet dogs. Hence, it is mandatory to get proper-sized pet dog crates/dog cages/dog carriers as airlines make it mandatory to have additional room for the pet within the crate. 

The key is to measure your pet accurately and select the crate size based on that.

Pet measurement includes the following specifications:

length of the pet – from the tip of the nose to base/root of the tail, 

height of the pet – from the elbow joint to the ground, 

width of the pet – across shoulders/widest point and 

height of the pet – natural standing position from the top of the head to the floor. 

Based on these dimensions and certain calculations, an appropriate crate is finalized for the pet’s flight. Make sure to add those extra 4 inches to the calculated height of the pet so that there is enough headspace and the pet is not cramped in the cage. Specifications For Pet Crate During Air Travel

Crate must have additional room for the pet to sit, stand, lie or turn around comfortably

Summer is right around the corner, and many people are already in the midst of planning their upcoming holiday vacations. Afterall, summer is one of the most beautiful seasons to enjoy making precious memories with loved ones. Some of life’s fondest memories are made with those we love, such as close family and friends. As every dog owner knows, our four-legged friends are crucial members of our families- and make the best vacation buddies. That being said, there are many ways to embark on exciting summer adventures with your canine companions by your side. 

When planning summer vacations, many pet owners are faced with concerns over the logistics of bringing their pets with them on the plane. However, flying with your pets is actually much easier than you may think. Afterall, many major airlines allow for passengers to travel with pets- either in the plane or the cargo hold. That being said, bringing your precious canine companions along for your summer vacation is totally doable, and we’re breaking down the best tips for flying with your dogs this summer. 

5 Tips for Flying with your Dog

Most summer vacation plans are not last-minute, spur of the moment ideas, which fortunately means you likely will have a fair amount of time to plan ahead. After preparing yourself and your family for traveling and ensuring you have all your vacation essentials packed, take a few minutes to plan ahead for your dog(s). Try creating a checklist of all their toys, medications, and other items they may need during the trip. Be sure to pack enough of your dog’s food to last for the duration of your traveling. To simplify things, we recommend measuring out your dog’s food ahead of time and separating it into individual bags or containers. A common tip you have probably already heard is to feed your dog slightly less on travel days. Just to be clear; your dog will not starve if they are fed slightly less than normal. Rather, this can be a good idea for dogs that are prone to getting queasy during travel. Furthermore, try to avoid feeding your dog right before your departure; instead aim for 2- 3 hours beforehand. It’s also crucial to give your dog plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Remember to bring your dog’s water bowl along (if you have the space), or you can plan to utilize water cups while on-the-go. 

Secure Them in Their Crate

When traveling with your dogs on vacation, the most important thing to prioritize is their safety throughout the entire journey. Afterall, you want yourself, your family, and your dogs to all make it to your destination safely. Available in four sizes – though the large size hasn’t been tested and certified by CPS – for puppies to large breeds, the Gunner G1 Kennel has a double-walled design to keep pets safe in an accident. Its double walls also have the added benefit of providing temperature regulation, keeping your pup cool even in hot weather. The crate has built-in pins for tie-down straps to secure the crate in a vehicle, although customers must purchase the straps separately.

The Pet Carrier by luggage brand Away is the ideal soft-sided crate for transporting small dogs in a car. Its features include top and side entry points for your animal, removable bedding for comfort, a retractable mesh privacy screen, and a collar clip to keep your pup from springing out of the carrier when opened. It also has a firm bottom, which stops the carrier from folding during transit – a feature Ellis says is important to prevent your dog from sliding around in the crate.

Car travel is a breeze with this carrier: Just secure it to your vehicle’s back seat via a belt around the headrest. Traveling by air with your pet? With a capacity to hold pups as big as 110 pounds, the large version of the Lucky Kennel can keep up with large dogs without weighing you down. Unlike most crash-tested travel crates, this kennel is lightweight at only 45 pounds, making it much more accessible to lift in and out of a vehicle. Another nice feature is its drainage and ventilation holes. The drainage holes are excellent to have in the event of a potty accident, as any liquid in the kennel is directed to the drainage holes via the slightly pitched floor of the crate .

The drain holes are a nice plus, but they make it difficult to place a bed within the crate. As such, Lucky Dog offers its own bed to fit inside – a nice-to-have feature to ensure your pup’s comfort during travel. However, if you want to purchase the bed pad for your dog, you’ll have to do so separately. Lucky Dog also requires the separate purchase of ratchet straps – a type of restraint that keeps the crate tied down to a vehicle – instead of providing them with the kennel. Remember this when purchasing this crate because Lucky Dog kennels are only crash-tested and certified by the CPS in combination with these tie-down straps.

Weight restrictions: Many in-cabin cat carriers are suitable for cats weighing up to 15 or 18 pounds. If your cat is on the heavier side, double-check the weight limit for the carrier you're considering purchasing and make sure your cat has room to comfortably move around in the carrier.  

Ventilation: Most carriers are designed with enough ventilation (at least 16%) to meet the International Air Transport Association (IATA) minimum requirement . Some carriers may have less or more, so the amount of ventilation you choose depends on you and your cat's preferences. 

Since Myers says most cats prefer to hide in stressful environments, carriers with privacy walls and flaps may be beneficial. Alternatively, she recommends bringing a towel or blanket that you can place over the carrier if your cat becomes stressed. "Even if you cover the carrier with a towel, it's far from airtight," she says. "Simply check on your cat occasionally, without disturbing them any more than necessary."

How we tested airline-approved pet carriers

Feature comparison: After conducting interviews with our experts, we created a point rubric for scoring each carrier based on the following features:

Scrape test: We scraped a mesh section of each carrier 50 times with a fork to test its durability, noting any damage or discoloration. 

Zip test: To test the durability of each carrier's zippers, we completely zipped and unzipped one of its loading entrances 50 times. In the process, we observed changes in the zipper's ability to smoothly run its course.

Luggage test: If a carrier included a luggage strap, we evaluated how well it remained balanced on top of a suitcase. We placed a 10-pound weight inside and attached the carrier to a suitcase handle so it rested on top of our luggage. Then we rolled it over a curb, up a ramp, and along the sidewalk and street of a city block. 

Ventilation test: According to Wolko, ventilation is important to prevent a cat from overheating during travel. We measured the dimensions of each carrier's mesh panels and calculated the percentage of the total surface area they comprised. We favored bags with more ventilation. According to IATA live animal regulations, pet carrier bags must have a minimum of 16% ventilation. 

Walk test: We took each soft-sided carrier containing a 10-pound weight on a 15-minute walk around a neighborhood. Each was carried using the shoulder strap and held at the front of the body the way a person would if they had a real cat inside. For the last block of the walk, we switched to using the hand-carry straps. The backpack carriers were taken on the same walk but were not carried by hand. With each one, we paid attention to how comfortable it was to carry, how much it bounced, and whether it collapsed inwards.

Goop test: We devised this test to determine how easy it would be to clean the carriers if a cat vomited or defecated in transit. We mashed together cat kibble, canned food, and water with a mortar and pestle to make the goop, then spread a tablespoon on an exterior wall and interior mat of each carrier. After 48 hours, we wiped the goop from the exterior using dish soap and water and cleaned the mats in the washing machine. 

Drop and stomp tests: We brought the carriers to a local park, loaded each one with a 10-pound weight, and threw them off of a 10-foot play structure, looking for any damage that occurred upon landing. We then rolled the bags several times on the ground with the weight still inside, looking for damage to the stitching, mesh, or zippers. Later, at home, we placed each carrier on a rug and stomped on it a dozen times with bare feet, noting whether its frame changed shape or the bag suffered any other damage.

What is considered an airline-approved pet carrier.

To fly with a cat in the cabin of a plane, you'll need a soft-sided carrier that fits within the allowable dimensions of the airline, which vary a little from airline to airline. Regardless of the carrier you use, Wolko says to make sure your cat has enough room to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Additionally, there should be at least 2 to 3 inches of clearance from the top of their ears to the interior roof of the carrier.

How much does it cost to fly with a cat? 

Fees for flying with a pet in the cabin of a plane vary between carriers. At United Airlines , a one-way flight for your cat adds $125 to your ticket price. At Delta , there is a $95 fee for domestic flights. Flying a cat in the cargo hold on a domestic flight is typically about $300 per trip. Sending a cat on an international flight can cost up to triple that amount.

How much ventilation should a carrier have? 

For soft-sided carriers, Wolko says mesh ventilation should be on at least three sides of the bag. In cargo, airlines require that a kennel is ventilated on all four sides. According to the IATA live animal regulations, both soft- and hard-sided pet carriers must have a minimum of 16% ventilation. 

Do cats need to go to the bathroom on a flight? 

Unless a cat has a medical condition, they will be fine without access to a litter box for the duration of a flight. "Just based on the physiology of cats, they could probably go from Boston to Hawaii without needing to void," says Dr. Bob Murtaugh , a veterinarian and chair of veterinary medicine for the National Academies of Practice.

In the cargo hold, kennels cannot be outfitted with a litter box or anything other than an absorbent liner and a soft bed or blanket. "If the travel day will be more than eight hours, during a layover pet owners can arrange a comfort stop for cats to be let out of their carrier," says Elaine Mathis, pet travel specialist and project manager at Happy Tails Travel . When you let your cat out of their carrier, you'll want to make sure your cat is safely secured with one of the best cat harnesses attached to a leash.

Do cats need food and water on a flight? 

On shorter in-cabin flights, it's unlikely your cat will require food or water. However, if you're flying your cat in cargo, Mathis says a food bowl and water bowl should be in the carrier regardless of the flight length. She recommends using dishes that fasten to the crate's door and can be refilled easily from the outside, such as Lixit's Quick Lock Crock 10-ounce bowls .

What are the signs that my cat may be in distress in flight?

According to Murtaugh, a few obvious signs may indicate your cat is in distress during a flight, either due to fear or excessive heat. A cat that is panting, restless, and vocalizing could be experiencing significant anxiety or overheating. If the membranes in their gums turn bright red, the latter is most likely, and it's important to cool them off quickly. If a flight attendant approves, placing the carrier on your lap so they can feel the air blowing from the vent above your seat or wiping them down with a wet cloth may help lower their body temperature. Before your travel, Nilson recommends lightly spraying the carrier with calming pheromones. 

In the weeks before their trip, introduce your cat to their carrier or kennel in a positive way. "Make the carrier feel like a cave or a home or something that's comfortable, something that they're not just jammed into the first time they're on their way to the airport," says Murtaugh.

Place the carrier in an area of the home where your cat spends a lot of time and encourage them to explore it by placing catnip and treats inside or by playing with them in and around the space. 

Murtaugh says that taking your cat on a car ride or other forms of transportation while in their carrier may also be helpful in the weeks before the flight. He recommends placing a bed or blanket that smells like home inside the carrier and using a pheromone spray or collar to help take the edge off. 

If your cat has a history of experiencing debilitating stress during travel and will be flying in the cabin, you can speak to your vet about prescribing an anxiety-relieving medication. However, it's important to test medication out before your flight. "Make sure there won't be any untoward side effects," says Murtaugh. "Your vet can help you tailor that to your cat's needs."

The IATA recommends against sedating a cat before flying in the cargo hold. It can be fatal for older, chronically sick, or highly stressed animals. Nilson says calming pheromones such as Feliway or Pet Remedy are safe alternatives.
