The Highland Hotel overlooks the popular town of Fort William. Originally built as a Victorian railway hotel, the building is a landmark within the town and retains many of its original features. With views across Loch Linnhe and the distant Sunart Hills the Highland Hotel offers beautiful scenery and is also within walking distance of the lively town centre.

All self-drive breaks include accommodation with breakfast and evening meal followed by night time entertainment.

Fort William is a lively town for both locals and visitors alike. It is just a short walk from the hotel into the centre where there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, shops and activities. It is a hub for walkers and marks the end point of the popular West Highland Way, a 96 mile walk from Glasgow to Fort William. Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, is also close by and attracts thousands of walkers each year. Although Fort William is surrounded by towering munros there are also a number of lower level walks. Explore the grandeur of Glen Nevis or enjoy the short walk to Inverlochy Castle to absorb the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands. The Loch Achray Hotel is situated in the heart of the Trossachs, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The hotel is serenely set among woodland on the shores of Loch Achray and is overlooked by the towering Ben Venue. Wildlife abounds in the forest and surrounding area but the Trossachs are also steeped in history and have hosted many famous visitors over the years.

The serene location of Loch Achray Hotel offers a varied selection of walks, from a stroll around the Loch to conquering the surrounding peaks. The Loch Awe Hotel is a magnificent landmark in the area and commemorates the arrival of the Highland railway to the west coast. The hotel overlooks beautiful Loch Awe and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Beneath the towering slopes of Ben Cruachan and along the shore from Kilchurn Castle, this hotel offers a remarkable glimpse into Scottish history and the dramatic landscape of the Highlands.

During the 1920s and 1930s the Loch Awe Hotel gained a reputation as a high class establishment. The idyllic location and elegance of the hotel attracted the aristocracy and many contemporary celebrities, including the American tennis players Helen Wills and Bill Tilden. Kirk Douglas was another famous visitor and he starred in the film “To Catch Me a Spy”, part of which was filmed at the Loch Awe Hotel. The Loch Awe Hotel dates back to the late 18th Century when it welcomed travellers as a railway hotel. Loch Awe still retains its own station on the scenic Highland Line to Oban and has been host to many famous and titled guests over the years. Loch Lomond Tours

Tours to loch lomond.

Scotland’s largest loch is your introduction to the spectacular Highlands on many of our small group tours. This famous body of water is the beating heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. 720 square miles of diverse scenery from lush rolling countryside and thick forest, to vast glens and craggy mountains. As we sojourn up the loch’s western shores you’ll have a fantastic view of Ben Lomond. It’s Scotland’s most southerly Munro (a mountain over 3000 feet high).

The traditional village of Luss on the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, is a stop on our many of our 1 day tours from Glasgow & Edinburgh, as well as our Shore Excursions from Greenock. Its cottages have been beautifully preserved from the 18 th and 19 th centuries. In the summer the villagers take great pride in their lavish floral displays. Luss has been a Christian settlement for at least 1500 years and its wonderfully restored church with its lychgate is well worth a visit. There’s even evidence of the Vikings having raided this area in 1263 in their stone ‘hogback’ grave in the atmospheric churchyard.

We can also enjoy a paddle on the lovely beach or alternatively take a wander onto the picturesque Luss pier with an ice cream, during our three and four day tours to the Highlands, Skye and Mull. We also stop here on our six day island hopping tours to Mull, Iona, Skye, the Highlands and Loch Ness. All of these tours depart from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

For guests on our one day tours to Loch Ness, Haunting Glencoe and the Highlands, and to Glenfinnan Viaduct, Mallaig & Glencoe from Glasgow; there’s a stop further north for refreshments and photos on the side of Loch Lomond.

For those looking for a more bespoke experience, we also offer private tours to Loch Lomond. With the opportunity to personalise your itinerary you can really explore what the loch has to offer. From kayaking to tree top adventures, there’s options for everyone including the thrill seekers out there.

Great holiday good value for money we…

Great holiday good value for money we keep coming back! This time we were not so happy with having a contract coach which was not as comfortable as Lochs & Glens & the drivers knowledge, smartness & professionalism does not match your own drivers although he was friendly! Also most clients are older & less mobile so being dropped in Stirling & Edinburgh town centre for hours ends up being a shopping trip & sitting in a cafe/pub maybe a visit to the castles could be included or other places of interest!

As a solo traveler I always feel very…

As a solo traveler I always feel very comfortable from start to finish. Everything is geared to making every holiday memorable. It’s a happy time. The food is always excellent and plentiful. The staff seem happy and nothing is too much trouble. In fact as long as I can get a solo room I don’t mind which hotel I go to! Discovering Lochs and Glens has been really great. My recent holiday was 29th March 2024 to Lochawe.

Loch Tummel Hotel

Loch Tummel Hotel, perfect little break away. Brilliant excursions - 4 hours isn't enough in Edinburgh mind as there's so much to see and do. Hotel was immaculate and the food was divine with set menus amazing food.

The staff were very pleasant, both drivers were very good. The organised trips were very enjoyable with beautiful scenery most of which we had seen before. It would be interesting to see some new places but otherwise on the whole it was excellent and good value for money.

Room dangerous

Room dangerous. Told no other available. My husband ripped the top of his big toe nail off. Our daughter rang customer services and spoke to the rudest person she’s ever delt with . Eventually things got sorted with the manager of the hotel. Felt like they we under the impression we wanted compensation and a better room which all we wanted was what we finally got.

lochs and glens coach tours scotland

Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands day tour from Edinburgh

Myths, monsters, and mountains: this tour is the best way to see Scotland in a day.

You leave the cobbled streets of Edinburgh and travel past Linlithgow Palace and Stirling Castle.

This region is soaked in history, so sit back and relax as your driver-guide entertains you with the tales of Mary Queen of Scots, William Wallace, and Scottish folklore.

If you keep a look out, you can catch a glimpse of the Kelpies. These 30-metre tall horse head sculptures need to be seen to be believed.

Your driver-guide takes you to their favourite stop within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park where you can grab coffee and enjoy the views.

After this stop, it’s time to get your camera ready. Because as you travel north into the Highlands, the landscapes suddenly become more provocative.

Shimmering lochs, rugged mountains, forest filled glens: it’s all so beautiful that it’s easy to forget these were once battlegrounds for fiercely territorial Highland clans.

You stop in Glencoe, one of the most famous natural landmarks in all of Scotland. This beautiful area boasts steep slopes and photogenic peaks. Your driver-guide may reveal to you the tragic tale that’s haunted this valley for over 300 years.

You then enter the glacial valley known as the Great Glen and pass under the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain.

After this visual feast of mighty inclines, you arrive in Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness. At 23 miles long and over 700ft deep, Loch Ness is the largest loch by volume in Scotland.

You have around one hour and a half here. You can search for the infamous monster on a relaxing boat cruise,* wander around the shores of the loch at your own pace, and grab a bite to eat.

Your journey south is packed full of classic Highland scenery. You travel through the curvy Cairngorms National Park, along Loch Laggan, and past Blair Castle.

Amongst the tall trees of Perthshire, you have a final refreshment break before journeying alongside the UNESCO Forth Rail Bridge and back into Edinburgh.

*The Loch Ness boat cruise is weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice.

This route may be reversed on some occasions.

First time with Lochs and Glens

First time with Lochs and Glens. Stayed at the Ardgartan Hotel as a single traveller. First the good points..Hotel is fabulous with outstanding views over Loch Long. Room was excellent and staff cleaned and made beds every day. Very good breakfast and 3 course evening meals were included. Catering and general staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. Driver was very informative and sometimes hilarious. Now the bad points... none that I could find, thoroughly reccomended and can't wait to do it again.

Comfortable hotel, beautiful location. Good excursions. Attentive friendly staff. If you need to phone head office, phone answered quickly and very helpful staff. Our driver Dave was very knowledge and caring. Had a good time. It was our 5th holiday with lochs and glens so must be doing something right. Also very good value for money.

Great trip.

Lovely driver. Lots of knowledgable information enroute to the places we were visiting. Lovely hotel and staff. Lost a star because having been on a few trips with Locks & Glen we’ve now been to most of the places they visit Some new ones would be welcomed.

Winter warmer at Loch Awe Hotel

Sandra, the coach driver, she went above and beyond the call of duty. She is simply marvellous, listening to her description of the journey. ( Beautiful voice) The hotel in a fabulous location, the staff, fabulous. Room & Bathroom clean as a whistle every day.

Dorset holiday to Scotland .

Coach. Very good comfortable Driver. Excellent makes the holiday good information good banter humour above all historical fact about where we were and what we are seeing. Hotel very good staff food rooms. Evening entertainment not very good.

First class service

As usual, first class service from the time we boarded the coach until we were brought back to our joining point. Room was clean & warm. Towels changed daily. Restaurant staff were welcoming and standard of food was very good. Bar staff were always cheerful and service was good.

The Scottish scenery by Lochs & Glens

The staff were very pleasant, both drivers were very good. The organised trips were very enjoyable with beautiful scenery most of which we had seen before. It would be interesting to see some new places but otherwise on the whole it was excellent and good value for money.

Great holiday and such good value for money. The hotel was in a fantastic position, right on Loch Awe. The rooms were spacious and cleaned every day with clean towels provided daily. Thete was plenty of choice on the menu for both breakfast and dinner and the staff were extremely friendly as was the coach driver. The tours were very well organised. Cannot fault Lochs and Glens. Have been with them twice now and would certainly go again.

A great holiday at the Highland Hotel

We had a great holiday at the Highland Hotel from start to finish. Very comfortable rooms and a wide range of good food. A good selection of days out especially The Cairngorm experience. Our driver ( Nick ) was excellent and the coach was a comfortable ride.

Lovely short break

Everything about our trip we found enjoyable the drivers hotel and staff and food everybody so polite and helpful and the views from our room were fantastic

Our first coach holiday - excellent!!…

Our first time experiencing a coach holiday and were a little apprehensive beforehand - but we needn't have been. The entire trip was excellent and we were just so impressed with all the arrangements. The Driver was excellent as was the Hotel and all the Staff - the service was exceptional - everything was handled in a very professional way. The rooms were comfortable and the food was good. A very enjoyable holiday and we will definitely be using Lochs and Glens again.

Take The High Road and The Low Road

In the far north of the UK sits Scotland, a country with a proud nation and fascinating history. From the wilderness of the Highlands with its mountains, Lochs and glens to the vibrant and historical cities, Scotland is a remarkable place to explore. Escorted coach tours that include Scotland will give you an excellent opportunity to get the best out of this glorious land. Edinburgh is the Scottish capital and offers the visitor a vast amount of sights to see. Notably, the iconic Edinburgh Castle standing on its rocky hill is a sight to behold. In the summer you can take in the wonderful spectacle of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo or soak up the extraordinary atmosphere of the Edinburgh Festival. Be sure to catch one of the Edinburgh Bus Tours to get the most out of your visit and find out some little known facts about this amazing place. Further up the coast is St Andrews, a magnificent town steeped in history. Once there, you will find Blackfriars Chapel, the Chapel of St Mary on the Rock, St Andrews Castle, St Andrews Cathedral, the medieval city gate of West Port and many, many more historic sites. Again, book a guided tour to get the most out of it. Also known as the ‘Home of Golf, St Andrews boasts seven golf courses and attracts people from all over the world to play a round of golf on its exceptional courses.

Unleash The Monster

Travel towards Inverness to find the deep waters of Loch Ness and its mysterious monster. Loch Ness is the second deepest loch in Scotland, deep enough to hide the biggest monster. Controversy around the existence of this monster still rages on today, but still plenty of people come hoping for a glimpse. Why not take a local sightseeing tour and cruise on Loch Ness to embrace the outstanding beauty.

It's a Kind of Magic

Another popular visitor attraction is Fort William which is located in the Ben Nevis region. This region is well known for its stunning natural beauty and imposing mountainous range, especially Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the UK. This mountain is extremely popular and attracts thousands of climbers a year, including those doing the Three Peaks Challenge. You can also find the Glenfinnan Viaduct in this region, a splendid railway bridge made famous by the Harry Potter films. Countless famous movies and television shows are filmed in Scotland from Braveheart starring Mel Gibson, to the current smash hit TV series Outlander, based on the books by  Diana Gabaldon.

Round off your day with a guided tour around the Ben Nevis Distillery and Visitor Centre in Fort William, one of many Whisky Distilleries to be found in the highlands of Scotland. You can’t visit Scotland without a trip to Glasgow, Scotland’s second city and famous for its art nouveau architecture and active and dynamic cultural scene. You can start by exploring some of Glasgow’s top attractions on a guided tour. Be intrigued by the many museums and art galleries, and find out how the world famous Scottish architect, designer and artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, embraced Art Nouveau in some of his wonderful works. Finish the day at ‘Ubiquitous Chip’, one of Glasgow’s finest restaurants, serving Scottish cuisine at its best.
