Built around the designs of a medieval town during a time when walking and travel by horse and cart were the only ways for people to get around, Dublin’s flat and compact layout makes it tailor-made for cycling. If you like the idea of exploring the Irish capital on two wheels and with the wind in your hair, then here are five of the best guided Dublin bike tours currently on offer.

2.5-Hour City Bike Tour

Discover Dublin’s main highlights on this 2.5-hour guided bike tour, which takes you past some of the city’s most popular attractions, monuments and places of interest, as well as a handful of secret spots only known to locals. After meeting in Whitefriar Place near St. Stephen’s Green where you’ll be furnished with a bike, helmet and hi-vis jacket, you’ll set off to explore Dublin’s canals and the River Liffey, Georgian Dublin with its grand 18th-century houses, beautiful parks, and historic castles and cathedrals. As you stop at various points along the way, your guide will offer insights into the city and its many landmarks. If there’s enough time, you may even stop for a swift half in a local watering hole, before  your tour comes to an end. From €30 per person.

Dublin Castle, the historical heart of the city. Flickr:William Murphy

Proud and Pioneering

Dublin bike tours.

Go beyond 'The Pale' and discover dynamic Dublin, Ireland's beloved capital. Get a flavor of Ireland's gastronomy on a bike tour with food tastings or survey the city's myriad cultural and historic highlights on a guided city tour.

Rising beautifully from the bay at the mouth of the River Liffey, Dublin had become Ireland's principal settlement by the 12th Century, when the Anglo-Norman invasion reached the island. The city rapidly expanded during the 17th Century, becoming at one brief point the second largest city in the British Empire!

Dublin is now regarded as a global city and a center for education, arts, and industry. The streets of Dublin are vibrant, cultural and historical, with treasured discoveries around each corner - beyond the commanding Dublin Castle, visitors to Ireland's capital can discover St. Patrick's Cathedral, Christchurch Cathedral, the Guinness Brewery, Kilmainham Jail, Temple Bar, and the Dublin Docklands.

Dublin is best discovered on a guided bicycle tour, where a guide can fill you in on the culture and history of a city which raised such influential figures as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, and Francis Bacon. Bike through 'The Big Smoke' on a dynamic Dublin day tour, enjoying a rewarding ride, the option of bike rental, and the opportunity to make everlasting memories of the Emerald Isle.

My Bike or Hike

In the city into the mountains along the coast countryside & greenways guided tours, sustainable, guided tours.

Welcome to  MYBIKEORHIKE , where you can book your authentic tour with a real local guide.

My name is Ben, and I am a local tour guide who will tour you by bike, or a hike, as you like! I give day tours that are off the beaten path but never too hard to get to. Choose between a hybrid or electric bike tour and pedal with ease along the coast, river greenways or canal towpaths of Dublin and Kildare, or come on a guided hike in the Dublin or Wicklow mountains As a local  guide, learn about the local history, geography, ecology and more while taking in fresh air and getting in some healthy exercise, but at a pace that you decide. Skip the queues, the crowds, the strict schedules, and come with me on care free jaunt to the places you want to see and enjoy unique experiences to remember.

All our tours are carefully curated so they can operate in a sustainable way, while offering unique and memorable experiences. The localities they pass through are thoroughly researched so you can enjoy and learn about  less well known local history, stories and folklore. In The City

Visiting Dubin City or passing through? Whether you’re new to Dublin or want to revive old memories or reacquaint with its rich history, you can choose from a variety of walking tours to suit your schedule and interests, or take a guided city bike tour to see more in less time!

Into the Mountains Tours My Bike or Hike

Into The Mountains

Staying in or around Dublin with a bit more time? Why not go for a hike in the Dublin Mountains! My specially curated, leisurely hikes are suitable for families, friends and groups of all levels. Enjoy wonderfully spectacular views whilst having a fun and healthy day out.

Along the Coast Tours My Bike or Hike

Along The Coast

With green plains to the north and west, mountains to the south, even us Dubliners sometimes forget about the wonderful vistas and fun things to do along the east coast of Dublin. Why not grab a local train, bus, bike or boat and breathe in the sea air for an unforgettable day out, and see Dublin from a different perspective!

Countryside and Greenways Tours My Bike or Hike

Countryside and Greenways

It’s back to the future, revisiting the 18th century canal towpaths. Back then it was horse drawn barges and now they are beautifully repurposed greenways just waiting to be explored on foot or by bike. No better way to get away from it all than a bike ride along the many greenways and quiet country paths of counties Dublin and Kildare.

Went on a hike with Ben and a group of transition year students. We all really enjoyed it. Ben was very informative throughout the hike providing information on different stops throughout the hike from Glencullen to Tibradden. Would recommend Ben for future hikes. Thanks Ben!
I’ve been on several bike tours when traveling to new cities. Ben’s tour really stands out, far above the others. The reasons are simple: 1. He provides an audio system. That way he can narrate as you’re riding. Soooo much more information can be provided to you given this simple solution! 2. Electrical bike kept your energy fresh all day. We cover so much ground without getting tired. Use the electric part as little or as much as you want. 3. He’s really flexible. Tell him what you’re most interested in and he’ll focus more on that. 4. A very nice lunch at a very quaint restaurant is provided. Yum! 5. Got such a good overview of the city and culture! Highly recommend spending a day in Dublin with Ben!
Ben had a nice relaxed and calm delivery and was very knowledgeable, with answers to all the questions that we threw at him. Ben tailored the tour to suite us as a stag party and as well as showing us the history of Dublin in all its glory, he also took us to some of his favourite watering holes, where we could soak up the atmosphere and buzz of Dublin with a cold pint of Guinness. Ben also sent all that he talked about via WhatsApp, which allowed us to refer to this and use his knowledge of where to go and when for the entire weekend. great value for money and well recommended.
We did the Bridges of the Liffey tour with Ben in Dublin. An excellent tour. Ben was a fantastic host, very knowledgeable with a passion for bridges! but, not only a fab tour about the bridges, Ben told us about the history, the background, the politics…I could go on! He recommended some bars and restaurants too, and we had a lovely refreshment break in Epic near the end! Thank you Ben, and thank you for the photos and route you took for us at no extra cost :)

Discover Dublin on four scenic cycle routes

Cycling The Phoenix Park, Dublin

Dublin has a choice of cycle routes that take you from bustling city streets to tranquil canalways or green open spaces in a matter of minutes.

Take advantage of over 190km of paths to explore different neighbourhoods and discover the city at a slower pace. Saddle up and explore coffee stops, spacious parks, and the regenerated Docklands.

Canal Way Cycle Route

cycle tours in dublin

This 3.6km route along the Grand Canal is Dublin’s main cycle artery. It links historic Portobello’s Georgian past with the tech hubs of Grand Canal Dock and Spencer Dock. There's plenty of places to stop for a caffeine hit too. Try Junior’s Deli & Cafe on Bath Avenue. Sip a cappuccino while you chow down on a New York style Reuben or a Caesar Club sandwich. This short trip is the perfect way to kick your Dublin cycling senses into gear.

The Docklands and Ringsend

cycle tours in dublin

Dublin’s Docklands area is an eclectic mix of old and new. Here, trendy wine bars on the waterside contrast with the original village feel of Ringsend. Before setting off on your cycle, start with an Italian blend coffee and continental treat like cannoli, ricottini, or croissants at il Valentino Bakery & Cafe on Grand Canal Harbour. It’s good fuel for the rest of your trip (and you can pick up an extra snack to take away for later).

Appreciators of street art will want to keep an eye out for the pieces on Hanover Quay’s walls, while music fans can tour U2's Dublin by bike. Pay a visit to Windmill Lane Recording Studios where much of the band’s music was recorded, from 'Boy to Songs of Experience'. As you head towards Ringsend, watch out for locals racing their rowboats along the River Liffey. Take a breather before the final pedal to the Great South Wall. On sunny days, cyclists can cool off with a dip in Dublin Bay midway along the wall’s 8km length. Once refreshed, make one last push to the iconic red Poolbeg Lighthouse that marks the end of the route.

From here it’s a short trip to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham where over 3,500 contemporary artworks by Irish and international artists are on display.
