Jay is mostly known for his amazing stage presence. During the survival program, he was well known for his charisma on stage and his powerful dance moves. Sinar Tour draws 10,000 Koreans to Brunei in first 12 months

Without direct flights and only 2,871 Korean tourists to Brunei in 2015, Sinar Tour decided to market chartered flights from Incheon

Local travel agency Sinar Tour has brought in 10,000 Koreans to Brunei within its first 12 months – the highest Brunei has officially recorded from South Korea – through chartered flights twice a week from Incheon, according to its directors.

Sinar Tour, which is jointly owned by Hjh Normah Suria Hayati PJDSMDSU (Dr) Haji Awang Jamil Al-Sufri  and Korean James Park, began the business by strategically targeting South Korean tourists – only 2,871 of which were recorded in Brunei in 2015.

Sinar introduced chartered flights with Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) in December 2016, which ran for 12 consecutive months until the national carrier decided to introduce Incheon as part of their scheduled flights at the end of 2017.

According to statistics from the Tourism Development Department, there were 3,551 tourists from South Korea to Brunei in 2016, which swelled to 8,705 last year – with Sinar Tour’s packages arguably the driving force behind the increase.

The travel agency is now targeting to facilitate 12,000 to 15,000 tourists from Korea in 2018, potentially more if a third weekly flight is added.

“At first, it was admittedly a risk for us to take on the chartered flights,” said Hjh Normah, a retired senior civil servant. “But it was a necessary step (since there were no scheduled flights at the time). However, with James’ connections and our research, we believed that there was a market in Korea that Brunei could tap into.”

Park, a businessman with 30 years experience in tourism, said he decided to become a partner for Sinar because Brunei was a destination that had yet to be seriously marketed in South Korea, and saw potential in the Sultanate’s resort facilities and golf courses.

“More than 20 million South Koreans travel outside their country each year, about three to four million who are looking to play golf,” said James, who has also invested in tour agencies in US and Canada. “More than 90 per cent (of the 10,000 Koreans coming to Brunei) have stayed at the Empire Hotel & Country Club, whose Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is one of the best in the region.”

Sinar has marketed Brunei through several Korean travel agents and marketing companies, who visited Brunei and later developed advertisement campaigns including  television commercials.

Sinar’s three main packages to Korean tourists were scheduled around their chartered flights on Thursday and Sunday; offering three nights, four nights and a week-long stay, primarily at the Empire Hotel & Country Club but with options at the Parkview Hotel, Rizqun International Hotel and the Centrepoint Hotel.

Visitors had the option for tours to all four districts; in the capital, tourists visited mosques, Kg Ayer, the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre, the Royal Regalia Museum and local restaurants, while their day trip Temburong involved rafting and the canopy walk at the Ulu Temburong National Park. Visitors were also given the option of visiting the Eco Ponies Garden in Tutong and oil monuments in Belait.

“I have only been here 16 months so I’m still learning more about Brunei and its attractions,” said James. “We (Sinar) are still discovering new places and developing new tours to showcase Brunei to Korea.”

Hjh Normah added that the increase in visitors will boost spending within the country, with Sinar looking to partner with more local businesses for retail opportunities and inbound tour services.

“Right now we’re running two retail outlets (at Empire’s arcade), one a souvenirs shop with AEWON and another with exclusively local products,” said Hjh Normah. “We’re looking at different tours as well in Brunei offering new experiences that can be used to draw more tourists.”

Introducing The Winners of I-LAND Who Will Debut As ENHYPEN

On September 18th, I-LAND aired its finale episode. During the episode, they announced the name of the group would be ENHYPEN. Here are the members who will be debuting as members of the group.

First, let's talk about the group name. Their name ENHYPEN has a special meaning. Just like a hyphen connects different words to create new meanings, ENHYPEN will connect with one another, grow together, and discover more about each other. The group will grow together and with the fans, providing a close experience.

Now let's move on to the members, going by age!

1. Heeseung

Heeseung is the oldest member of the group and in a 2001 liner. Heeseung trained under Big Hit Entertainment for three years and a month and trained alongside the TXT boys, but was not included in their debut line-up. He is a skilled vocalist, rapper, an dancer. During the finale, Heeseung garnered 1,137,323 votes and ranked 5th place.

Jay was born in Seattle, Washington, United States, and is a 2002 liner. He moved to South Korea when he was nine-years-old. He is the son of a CEO in Sinar Tours. Jay trained under Big Hit Entertainment for two years and 11 months. During the finale, Jay garnered 1,182,889 votes and ranked 2nd place.

Jake was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, and is a 2002 liner. He trained under Big Hit Entertainment for nine months. During the finale, Jake garnered 1,179,633 votes and ranked 3rd place.

4. Sunghoon

Sunghoon is a 2002 liner. Prior to becoming a trainee, he was a professional figure skater and was a two-time national junior silver medalist who represented South Korea in numerous international competitions. He won the 2015 Asian Open Trophy and Lombardia Trophy. He trained for two years and one month under Big Hit Entertainment. In the finale, Sunghoon garnered 1,088,413 votes and ranked 6th place.

Sunoo is a 2003 liner and trained for 10 months under BELIF+. He was popular during the show for being the trainee who could pull off cute and refreshing concepts the best. During the finale, Sunoo garnered 935,771 votes, ranking 8th place. However, he was able to join the 7-member line-up as the producer's choice.

Jungwon is a 2004 liner and trained for a year and four months under Big Hit Entertainment. In the finale episode, Jungwon pulled a huge reversal. He was ranked the last place in the previous round but ended up garnered 1,417,620 votes, ranking him 1st place.

Ni-ki was born and raised in Okayama, Japan, and is a 2005 liner. He trained for eight months under BELIF+. Around 2016-2017, Ni-ki was a back-up dancer for SHINee. At the time, he was around 12-years-old. During the finale, Ni-ki garnered 1,140,718 votes, ranking him 4th place.

Miri welcomes 18 Korean travel agents on familiarisation tour

MIRI: Eighteen Korean travel agents arrived here on Friday evening to a warm welcome and dinner hosted by Jinhold Hotel and Serviced Apartment and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

The travel agents were on a familiarisation tour of the resort city in conjunction with Royal Brunei Airlines charter flight from Incheon, Korea to Brunei which made a stop-over in Miri.

Welcoming the travel agents at the dinner, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin was delighted to have the travel agents visit some of Miri’s best tourist destinations.

“I must thank Tourism Malaysia, Seoul Office and SiNar Tours of STC group for choosing Miri as one of the destinations to be visited by the travel agents.

“So far, Miri has yet to receive charter flights from Korea. We are looking forward to receive more Korean tourists as we are now working with their travel agents. We believe Sarawak and Miri in particular have much to offer to our visitors,” he said.

He said Miri offers some of the best tourist destinations in Sarawak such as Lambir Hills National Park as well as Niah National Park.

“The Mulu National Park, boasts its UNESCO World Heritage Site Listing which Lonely Planet described as one of the most majestic and thrilling nature destinations anywhere in Southeast Asia, it is something not to be missed,” he said.

“Entertainment, shopping, food and festivals, that drive Miri city to what it has become now, the friendly and hospitable local people, the tourism industry has flourished and we, Mirians are proud to be able to position it as a friendly resort city.”

Among those present at the dinner were James Park Hyun Kyu, president of Sinar Tour with representatives from Korea’s and Miri’s travel agencies and Jeff Chong, managing director of Jinhold Group, Heidi Tay who represents Sarawak Tourism Board and Councillor Ernest Goh, chairman of Miri City Council’s Tourism Development Standing committee.

Jennie’s mother is reportedly a shareholder and significant stakeholder in CJ E&M , one of South Korea’s most prominent entertainment content companies and the parent company of MNet and TVN in South Korea. Her father is reportedly the owner of a hospital in the district of Gangnam in Seoul.

Tzuyu’s parents were self-made entrepreneurs in Taiwan. They managed a night market business in Tainan city and invested in three hospitals. Tzuyu’s mother also managed medical aesthetic clinics and cafes.

Nickhun was born in the United States and raised in Thailand. He attended Waganui Collegiate School , one of the most prestigious schools in New Zealand, which British royal Prince Edward famously attended. His mother is the CEO of Union Medical in Thailand, a leading pharmaceutical distributor.

17 underprivileged kids from Brunei fly for first time on sponsored Korea trip

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - 17 local kids from underprivileged families in the Brunei-Muara District left the country to visit South Korea.

Their first time on an aircraft, the children are on a sponsored field trip to Korea, a courtesy extended by Sinar Tour Sdn Bhd who organised the trip with the support of the Korean Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), Sinar Holdings, Dongwon Food and Beverages (Korea), At-Taqwa Travel Tours Sdn Bhd and Aewon Company.

The 11 to 16-year-olds are currently undergoing a special programme tailored to enhance their skills and talents to help them become successful in the future.

In an interview, participants Nur Amalia Mahirah binti Mohd Ridwan, Nur Azira binti Hazman and Noja Ain Maizurah binti Jaini expressed their excitement to be on a plane for the first time.

“This is my first time on a plane and I feel a bit nervous yet excited,” said Nur Amalia, a secondary school student.

Nur Azira added, “I can’t wait to go to Korea. We always see Korea in dramas. Now, I can really experience Korea for myself.

 “While in Korea, we can learn about the people’s culture and the new things there.” Noja Ain Maizurah also said that she is excited to learn the techniques of making kimchi during their trip to Dongwon Food and Beverages company.

The children will be visiting various places of interest in Korea, including the Namsan Traditional Village.

They will also watch a taekwondo show, see the Seoul Tower, and visit the Independence Hall of Korea and MBC World Broadcasting Theme Park.

Furthermore, the kids will be exposed to using public transport facilities in Seoul, the biggest city in Korea.

It is expected that the the field trip participants will become more motivated, open-minded and well-versed in current affairs.

They will also be able to understand the importance of hard work to become successful in life.
