The Next Generation DLC
The voyage continues! Tackle missions aboard the USS Aegis or the original bridge of the USS Enterprise!
Game Overview
A new playable ship: the enterprise d.
The Enterprise D can be used in any of the existing Ongoing Voyages modes, plus the two new modes. Players appear in authentic TNG uniforms when on this bridge, and experience the full audiovisual treatment to make everything look and sound like the TNG show.
New Avatar Option: Android
You can choose and customize any of several Android avatars.
New Enemies: The Romulans and The Borg
The Romulans are deadly and devious, making heavy use of surprise attacks. And the infamous Borg Cube poses a nearly unstoppable threat.
A New Player Role: Operations
On the Enterprise D, instead of Chief Engineer, you play as Operations. The signature feature of Operations is assigning NPC crew members to jobs throughout the ship. How Ops assigns crews at any given moment modifies the ship’s capabilities.
New Ongoing Voyages Mode: Patrol
Investigate activity throughout the Trench, flying to your choice of star systems and encountering random events and challenges along the way. Can be played with any of the three playable ships.
New Ongoing Voyages Mode: Resistance
A Borg Cube is tracking your ship, and you must locate a series of prototype defenses in order to survive your final encounter with it. At every step, the Borg are tracking you and trying to disrupt your efforts. Resistance is a tough challenge mode for dedicated players! Can be played with any of the three playable ships.
New Ship Capabilities
To counter Romulan stealth tactics, the Enterprise D can deploy Proximity Torpedoes; a well-coordinated Bridge Crew can use them like depth charges to neutralize a cloaked enemy. And to hold out against deadly singular threats like the Borg, the Enterprise D also features Shield Modulation and Precision-Fire Phasers.

Combat is always a possibility—and oftentimes unavoidable—but Red Storm reassures that warfare isn't the game's main focus, which keeps in line with the context of the Star Trek franchise. Most of the time, you and your crew will need to heavily weigh all the options and potential alternatives to violence. Red Storm wants players to have real choices when it comes down to handling given situations. As Sr. Creative Director David Votypka puts it: “We have a huge responsibility to make sure [the game] really feels like Star Trek… and that's what we want to do. If we can't do that, we shouldn't do it all in my opinion… people have come by, they play it, and they say ‘I feel like I'm on the bridge; I feel like I'm in an episode.'”
Few things in life are certain, but I'm pretty sure of this: I won't get to captain a real-life U.S.S. Enterprise. The technology simply doesn't exist.
What technology did just let me do here at E3 2016 is take the helm of a virtual Star Trek starship. I loved every minute of it.
The bridge, in Star Trek: Bridge Crew.
As I wrote this morning , Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a new game from Ubisoft coming to the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR headsets this fall. It puts you in the captain's chair -- or the helm, or the tactical conn, or the engineering panel -- of a brand-new Star Trek starship.
You play one of those four roles, working together with three other people wearing VR headsets of their own.
You can each see each other, talk to each other with integrated voice chat, even gesture to each other if you have a set of motion controllers. And you'll need to, because communication is key.
You can't fire the phasers unless the helmsman gives you a firing solution. The helmsman can't go to warp unless engineering prepares the warp coils first. The chief engineer can't transport stranded survivors onto the ship unless the tactical officer lowers the shields. And so on.
A closer look at Star Trek: Bridge Crew (pictures)
Only the captain can see everything the crew is doing -- and relay orders from Starfleet -- to help coordinate it all. When it works well, it really does feel a bit like an episode of Star Trek. And when it works poorly, it's hilarious . WHY OH WHY are the shields still down?
Red alert! Shields up!
At E3 I played both the helmsman and tactical officer positions, and both were a blast -- even though the early version here at E3 is a pretty simple game.
Inside the headset, you've basically got a simple touchscreen interface. You plot in a course (or select a target, if you're the tactical officer) just by tapping on an object of interest, then dragging a slider to set your speed. As helmsman, there's a second touchscreen pad you can drag around to set your heading; as tactical officer, there are toggles to raise and lower the shields and arm the torpedoes, and buttons you can tap to fire each.
But each bridge officer has a second job, too. Scotty doesn't just divert power from the engines to the shields and vice versa; he also mans the transporter bay. When it was my turn as tactical officer, I had to scan ships. I think helmsman is my favorite, though. They get to throw the silver lever that takes the ship to warp speed.
For the most part, Bridge Crew looks and feels true to its Star Trek roots. It's not the prettiest game, but the bridge has just the right luster -- and plenty of lens flare -- you'd expect from an important ship in J.J. Abrams' rebooted Star Trek universe. The initial sequence, where you ride a shuttlecraft to the U.S.S. Aegis and see your starship in all its glory, is pretty breathtaking.
The captain and the chief engineer have slightly different perspectives.
Coming out of warp into the middle of a giant debris field, the wreckage of a space station in front of a sun about to go nova, is one of the coolest things I've seen in VR so far. And to think that Ubisoft is pitching this as a full game, one with a story, makes my inner Star Trek fan squeal with joy. I just hope Ubisoft has enough depth and enough scenarios to keep it entertaining for a good long while.
After my sessions, I spoke to Brian Tate, the game's director. In no particular order, here's a long list of things I learned about Bridge Crew.
- The team came up with Bridge Crew as a VR experiment, and never thought it'd actually get made. But: "We went to CBS and they loved it right away. They said this is the Star Trek game they always wanted to see made."
- Don't expect to see any familiar faces from Star Trek in Bridge Crew. Tate says the game is about your own Star Trek adventures.
- Though most Star Trek ships have the front consoles facing forward, Bridge Crew has them turned 45 degrees towards each other to more naturally facilitate communication between the players. The chief engineer is also up on the bridge, instead of down in engineering, for the same reason. Ubisoft's excuse? The U.S.S. Aegis (NX-1787) is a brand-new ship specifically made for this game, and it does things a little differently.
- While there'll only be four roles -- captain, helm, tactical, engineering -- at launch, there might be more later. Ubisoft narrowed it down to the current roles to make sure each player would be constantly communicating and always had something to do.
- Though the game's premise is that the Aegis is on a mission to find a new homeworld for the displaced population of Vulcan, that's "just the launching point for the story."
- In addition to the story, you can randomly generate missions as well.
- When the ship takes a beating, you can see it visually. Sparks fly, fires break out and poor red shirts get thrown over their consoles.
- You can play with AI instead of friends with VR headsets, if need be. They'll respond to basic commands and issue basic status updates, and you can jump into their roles temporarily.
- The game's exclusive to VR, but you can use an Xbox One gamepad to play the game instead of touch controllers.
- Tate says each crewman's station also has advanced features that have yet to be revealed.
- The team has played the similar Artemis: Spaceship Bridge Simulator around the office, but Tate says it wasn't an inspiration for the game.
- Combat isn't the focus of the game. "Combat is an essential part of Star Trek, but it's never the point of anything you're doing. It's always the thing getting in the way," says Tate. Instead, expect exploration missions, rescue missions, and more to be revealed later this year.

Star Trek: Away Mission Is A Free Roam VR Arcade Game
It’s time to boldly go to the final frontier in VR (again); a new Star Trek VR arcade game is in the works.
Star Trek: Discovery Away Mission is in development at Sandbox VR, Variety reports . In this 30 minute experience, up to six friends will investigate the icy surface of a moon in search of a lost ship. You’ll join Starfleet officer Sylvia Tilly to solve problems and even engage in a few shootouts. Yes, that means you’ll wield the iconic Phaser in VR.
Sandbox is working closely with CBS on the project. There’s a teaser trailer below, though it doesn’t tell us much.
Speaking to the site, Sandbox Chief Product Officer Siqui Chen called the experience a “0.1 version of the holodeck” that Trek itself made famous. The experience will debut at Sandbox’s Hong Kong and San Francisco locations this fall before coming to new facilities in New York, Austin, San Diego and Chicago.
Sandbox’s VR arcade offering includes full-body motion capture in free-roaming VR locations. You strap markers to your body to bring your hands and feet into VR. We went hands-on with one of its original games last year, and the company’s since raised $68 million in funding .
Of course, this isn’t Star Trek’s first VR mission. A few years back Ubisoft brought us Star Trek: Bridge Crew , a cooperative multiplayer game that let teams pilot iconic vessels. We’re big fans of it, but it only offers a small slice of the wider Star Trek experience. Away Mission certainly seems to be appealing to the other side of the franchise. We’ll be interested to check it out later on in the year.

New Star Trek Game for VR Coming From Ubisoft, Will Be at E3
Ubisoft plans to help gamers explore the final frontier in the world of VR with Star Trek: Bridge Crew. The virtual reality game is set to be officially revealed at E3.
Ubisoft plans to help gamers explore the final frontier in the world of VR with Star Trek: Bridge Crew . The virtual reality game is set to be officially revealed at E3.
There have been a lot of rumors that E3 2016 would put a focus on virtual reality hardware like new console upgrades , but the EA Play presentation didn't make any mention of the technology. Although Electronic Arts might not be investing in the VR future, Ubisoft has already confirmed that VR will play a part in its E3 presentation Monday evening.
Ubisoft takes the stage at E3 Monday at 4pm ET and the company will likely have some exciting Assassin's Creed and Division news to share with AAA gamers. In addition to the blockbuster titles, Ubisoft has already confirmed that it will take some time to reveal a new virtual reality experience set in the world of Star Trek .
Star Trek: Bridge Crew takes place in the world J.J. Abrams' rebooted Star Trek universe and players have the chance to join the crew of the Aegis starship as the captain, or either a tactical, engineering, or helm officer. The game is being developed by Ubisoft-owned Red Storm Entertainment.
Here's what we know so far thanks to creative director David Votypka...
"It's up to you if you want to try the Kirk approach or be more methodical... The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations. It's not binary. Is it more important to save the Vulcan scientists or rescue everyone on the planet? It might be too difficult to do both. It's just like the show. There's not any one right answer."
According to the interview, players will be able to activate the warp drive, scan objects in space, and display important information onto a "viewscreen" within the game all while in the VR environment. It's a little unclear how the co-op VR experience will play out, but hopefully a stage demo tomorrow clears things up.
Skeptical VR gamers are likely most interested in whether or not Bridge Crew plays like a real VR game or just another VR tech demo. Despite the powerful technology, many VR games so far have very limited playtimes and don't exactly qualify as retail game experiences. Hopefully Star Trek provides at least a few hours of story-mode.
Star Trek: Bridge Crew will launch this fall for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.

New Multiplayer ‘Star Trek’ VR Game Rolls Out to Dave & Buster’s Nationwide
Star Trek makes a great basis for multiplayer VR— Star Trek: Bridge Crew proved that much when it launched for consumers back in 2017. If you’ve got a Dave & Buster’s nearby, starting today you’ll be able to jump into an all new take on Star Trek multiplayer madness with Star Trek: Dark Remnant, a Dave & Buster’s exclusive.
In Star Trek: Dark Remnant, you step aboard the U.S.S. Galileo, an advanced stellar research vessel accompanying the Enterprise on a routine mission to evacuate a stellar observatory located in the middle of the Klingon Neutral Zone.
Of course, as with all things Star Trek , the mission is everything but ‘routine’, as a neutron star collapses that leaves the Enterprise incapacitated, forcing you and your team to run interference as the Klingon ships roll in. Users will be able to control Galileo’s phasers, deflector shields, and sensors. Let’s just say the Gene Roddenberry days of ‘diplomacy first’ are taking a backseat here.
The experience was created by VRStudios, a company building location-based VR attractions, and Strange Reptile , a Salt Lake City-based indie game studio made up of veterans from The VOID, EA, Disney, Ubisoft, and Microsoft. Important to note: the location-based game is unrelated to Star Trek: Bridge Crew , a separate creation from Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment.
In a bid to keep users coming back for more, Star Trek: Dark Remnant is also said to include “several completely different endings combined with other elements of variability, including subtle differences in gameplay, randomized player characters, and dialogue that responds real-time to your performance,” VRStudios says in a press statement.
This isn’t Dave & Buster’s first VR rodeo. Star Trek: Dark Remnant uses Dave & Buster’s proprietary multiplayer VR motion platform, the very same that was first used in the franchise’s timed exclusive Jurassic World VR Expedition .
It’s uncertain which branches are hosting Star Trek: Dark Remnant, so make sure to check your local Dave & Buster’s first to before you pop on your communicator badges and strap on your Vulcan ears.
Honestly, all that I want is for that VR experience that was recreating the Enterprise D in VR to be finished, instead of killed off by Paramount. Sure, Bridge Crew is great, but just being able to be on the Enterprise D and walk around it, exploring all of the areas that never made it onto the show, potentially with minigames to play with friends, just sounds like the best. It’d be one thing if Paramount was working on the same thing (or maybe a whole line of VR recreations of Trek ships!!!!), but it doesn’t look like they are.
hay man fellow trex fan :-) You got a few minutes? watch this full screen lights out, this is all kinds of amazing https://youtu.be/uD4izuDMUQA
That video is amazing, one of the best i have ever seen.
I’d like a VR game where you aren’t just confined to the deck. I’d like to explore the ship, and beam down to planets and other ships.
Star citizen
Nope – Star Citizen won’t be VR for a long while yet.
Well star Citizen is the only game that support that type of massive open world space sim, and the developers plan to implement VR when the game is complete in like say 2 more years, also star citizen is the closest space sim we will have for atleast the next 9 years, it takes a long time to create such games, star citizen been in develodevel since 2011.
Eventually, you will be right. Probably in about 5 years once computer hardware can run fast enough to render SC in VR without making you puke into your flight suit… :)
Well, specifically a Star Trek game. I’m actually not that interested in space combat.

“Set phasers to fun!” … I think I threw up in my mouth a little.
IS THIS WHAT STAR TREK HAS BECOME!?!
I was going to ask WHICH Enterprise until I realized the images were official promo art and the game is in the Kelvin timeline. And then I was sad. Not my Star Trek.
C’mon, that line has been used a few dozens times all throughout Trek marketing history.
Looks like fun…except that I don’t live remotely close to a Dave & Busters. :(

New Star Trek VR Game ‘Star Trek: Dark Remnant’ Arrives At Dave & Buster’s
| April 2, 2019 | By: TrekMovie.com Staff 17 comments so far
Folks looking for some more Trek VR action might want to head on over to Dave & Buster’s, the chain of adult oriented combination arcade, bar, and restaurant. They have a new exclusive Star Trek VR game set in the Kelvin timeline. Developer VRstudios sent out a description today.
Star Trek: Dark Remnant puts you in control of the U.S.S. Galileo, Starfleet’s latest and most advanced stellar research vessel, accompanying the U.S.S. Enterprise on a routine mission to evacuate a stellar observatory located in the middle of the Klingon Neutral Zone and learn more about the decaying neutron star it orbits. When the neutron star collapses prematurely it leaves the Enterprise incapacitated. It’s now up to YOU to protect her from stellar debris – and the unwelcome arrival of a Klingon ship out for vengeance. With several completely different endings combined with other elements of variability, including subtle differences in gameplay, randomized player characters, and dialogue that responds real-time to your performance, Star Trek: Dark Remnant is never the same experience twice. You might even observe the fate of a poor redshirt ensign!
Promotional video
Players will encounter awe-inspiring vistas from their stations on a special research-observatory style bridge and will have a front row seat for dynamic and thrilling flybys of both the Enterprise and a Klingon Battlecruiser. The action will be controlled through a sleek and special virtual interaction device that enables players to control the Galileo’s phasers, deflector shields, and sensors.
Dark Remnant is now available at 122 Dave & Buster’s locations across North America.

What the hell is Dave and Busters
“I don’t know who that is . . . And I don’t care to find out!”
Chuck E Cheese for the over 21 crowd, that actually has descent food.
Better prizes too
Not descent food. It’s terrible
An arcade for adults.
“Set phasers to fun” lol!
Sadly I think we’re only getting more Kelvin verse stories in video game format from this point.
You know it’s a great game when it goes straight to Dave & Busters!
They only did that because they’re using the skin and engine that the original Kelvin-verse game used. I wouldn’t look at that as any kind of sign. I’m expecting the next console game (whenever the hell that happens) to be based in Discovery’s universe or if this new Picard series takes off it will be based as post Voyager game with the look of the new show. Now that CBS is making new content, it’s just logical that any real game would follow that aesthetic.
No, I just meant I don’t think we will see anymore Kelvin movies and the only medium of this universe might just be in game form (and I guess more comics too). Obviously could be wrong but that’s what I’m talking about. I wasn’t saying we wouldn’t see video games of the other shows or films. That would be crazy if we weren’t.
Star Trek Bridge Crew has the TOS bridge and recently added the TNG bridge as well as missions involving Romulans and the Borg. And a recent update lets you play it in VR or on a traditional TV.
I haven’t been to Dave & Busters for years. This might be a reason to head back there. But I’d have to convince the better half. That will be a task!
This might be the first Trek VR game I get to play
Waitaminute…
“a stellar observatory located in the middle of the Klingon Neutral Zone”
Can you imagine the negotiations must have taken place to allow that to happen?
What did we allow the Klingons to put in the neutral zone in exchange? Staging grounds for an invasion?
They still piss about S31 and it’s plan to start a Klingon war against them and the destruction of praxis
Why would anyone spend money on the Kelvin timeline (which is basically dead) and not prime? Was it a bargain?

With several completely different endings combined with other elements of variability, including subtle differences in gameplay, randomized player characters, and dialogue that responds real-time to your performance, Star Trek: Dark Remnant is never the same experience twice. You might even observe the fate of a poor redshirt ensign!

Ghostbusters VR Game Getting Free Frozen Empire Content
By Daniel DeAngleo
Developer nDreams announced on Friday that the VR game Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is getting a free DLC based on Sony Pictures’ Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire . Frozen Empire hit theatres on Friday, while Rise of the Ghost Lord is available on PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest headsets. The game’s free DLC launches on Thursday, March 28.
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord gets new Frozen Empire mission pack
Game Director Nathan Baseley announced Rise of the Ghost Lord’s new expansion in a post on the PlayStation Blog . The Frozen Empire DLC adds five new missions. Dan Aykroyd reprises his role as veteran Ghostbuster Ray , who will brief players on their mission to defeat Garraka.
Starting in New York, players will return to the game’s main setting of San Francisco to find that Garraka’s influence extends there as well.
“We’re so excited to connect Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord’s story to the wider Ghostbusters’ universe through Frozen Empire,” Baseley wrote.
In addition to working with Aykroyd, nDreams visited the set of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to accurately recreate the iconic fire station. Players can explore both the interior and the rooftop and even slide down the fireman’s pole.
“We can’t wait for you to have the chance to experience this slice of Ghostbusters history in VR,” said Baseley.
The Frozen Empire DLC also gives players some new weapons to aid in their battle against Garraka and her minions. This included a chance to use the original Proton Packs from the original 1984 Ghostbusters film. Meanwhile, players can melt ice and fry specters with the new Heat Beam.
Finally, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is getting three new player avatars based on characters from Frozen Empire . Players can battle Garraka as Lars Pinfield, Lucky Domingo, and Podcast.
