Abu Dhabi Skyline

Trip Highlights

  • Marvel at the expansive Dubai cityscape on the viewing deck of towering Burj Khalifa
  • Let the blue waters and temperate sunshine of Saadiyaat Island relax your body and mind
  • Indulge in some retail therapy at The Dubai Mall and its hundreds of retail stores
  • Celebrate the universal creativity of mankind at Abu Dhabi’s new Louvre art museum

Start your Journey

There is plenty to see when you visit the magical metropolis that is the city of Dubai.

The two most important items on your itinerary should be a visit to the Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. The Burj Khalifa stands at approximately 2,720 feet and promises spectacular views of the extensive cityscape below. The Dubai Mall is home to over 1,300 retail stores and 200 restaurants, cafés and eateries for the ultimate in shopping and entertainment for the whole family.

A holiday in Dubai wouldn’t be the same without immersing yourself in the desert landscape around you. So, be sure to hire a Jeep and head out for a bumpy, scenic ride across the dusty dunes. The best time to do this is at sunset. Take the time to pause and savour the majesty of the expansive starry night sky above before heading back to the city.

Treehouse

Abu Dhabi allows you to enjoy a halt in pace and a closer look at the local art and culture.

One of the highlights of your visit to Abu Dhabi is sure to be a trip to the city’s new Louvre art and civilisation museum, which was officially inaugurated at the end of 2017. The museum is the largest art museum in the Arabian Peninsula and focuses on bridging the gap between art from the East and art from the West. Another must is a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The Mosque is a significant place of worship for locals and one of the biggest in the UAE.

After a dose of culture, soak up the sunshine on Saadiyaat Island. Take a leisurely dip in its ice blue waters, which peacefully lap at the island’s golden sandy shores.

Dubai, Singapore & Bali

Dubai, Singapore & Bali

  • Experience the bustling modern cities of Dubai and Singapore as well as the tranquil and relaxing island of Bali
  • Combine contemporary shopping and sightseeing with traditional and cultural activities

Combine the bustling metropolises of Dubai and Singapore with the culture and pure relaxation of Bali on this fourteen-night triple-centre holiday.

Your holiday starts with three nights in Dubai – home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. You'll then fly to Singapore for a four-night stay in the Village Hotel Albert Court, found in the Marina estate of Singapore. The finale of your trip is seven nights on the idyllic island of Bali – the perfect place to combine beach-time with sightseeing and fun-filled attractions.

3 nights - Aloft Palm Jumeirah - Dubai

Springing up from the Arabian Desert seemingly overnight, Dubai is an innovative city that goes out of its way to impress. This modern metropolis is all about extremes and firsts; it's home to the world's first seven-star hotel, the world's tallest building, the world's most iconic man-made island, and the world's largest shopping mall.

As well as all that extravagance, you can expect high levels of luxury and service at our selection of top notch hotels. In amongst the skyscrapers, you'll find bustling gold and spice souks that give you a taste of what Dubai was like before the boom. Take a traditional show cruise across the Creek, or head out of town on a spectacular desert safari.

3 nights - Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium - Singapore

Few destinations rival Singapore in the city break stakes. The ubiquitous Singapore Sling is first stop for many visitors, followed by retail therapy in markets and malls. A harbour cruise is a great way to see the spiky skyline and spot the famous quays. For a real taste of the past, hop aboard a delightfully named bumboat– these once carried cargo, but now they're tourist taxis. Great days out include Jurong Bird Park and Singapore Zoo, where intrepid visitors can now go on night safari. For downtime, stroll in the gorgeous Botanical Gardens, or get palm trees and peace on the sandy shores of Sentosa. This island resort is packed with lots more attractions including a state of the art aquarium, golf courses and attractions galore.

7 nights - Ramada Encore by Wyndham Bali Seminyak - Bali

Golden sandy beaches, clear turquoise seas, magical rainforests, mystical temples, far-reaching rice paddy terraces, and friendly locals are just some of the treasures to uncover on luxury holidays in Bali. Nestling at the heart of the Indian Ocean, the island of Bali boasts a myriad of luxury beach resorts along its southern coastline and a cultural heritage that can't fail to inspire its many visitors.

Old meets new in glorious style in the island's capital Denpasar - home to the main airport, the Pura Masapohit temple, the Pasar Badung traditional market, and the impressive Puputan Square. To the east of the capital, discover the peaceful resort of Sunur with its stylish shopping, restaurants, and off-shore coral reef. The rolling waves of Kuta are a Mecca for surfers and its lively nightlife draws the crowds after dark. Seminyak offers an eclectic blend of upmarket spa resorts, beach clubs, idyllic beaches, and a chic night-time scene. The southern tip of the island reveals the modern resort of Nusa Dua with its golf course and shopping complex.

No trip to Bali would be complete without paying a visit to the 'real Bali' at the inland town of Ubud. This sprawling mass of 14 villages hosts a thriving arts and craft scene, bustling markets, a laidback cafe culture, temples, palaces, museums, and the sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary.

We stayed at the westin mina seyahi, which we all enjoyed very much. We have previously stayed at the habtoor grand, mina a Salam, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and intercontinental festival city (and zighy bay). For the price point, we loved this hotel. It was half the price of JBH/MAS for an equivalent half-board package and to be honest, beyond that wild wadi entrance, I don't think JBH/MAS offer twice the product. It was far superior to habtoor grand, which we stayed in before it was marriott owned, but was coming up as the same price for a B&B only package. Considering when we stayed at habtoor grand we paid about £1500 for 6 nights club room including NYE, I struggle to value it at the same as the westin now unless there have been significant changes.

We found the westin very peaceful. It was mostly British and German families and had fewer guests who had no basic courtesy and respect for fellow human beings that we found highly prevalent at JBH. Plenty of sun loungers, pools were perfectly heated. There is some construction past the W, but we didn't notice this. Biggest disappointment was the water park. The main slides have a height restriction of 1.22m. Considering these are actually pretty small and the 60m drop side at wild wadi has a height restriction of 1.2m, this is ridiculous. Needless to say my 1.18m very competent swimmer 5y old was extremely sad so we didn't make use of the water park as much as I thought we would. To be honest, it was quiet and most people didn't seem to make much use of it.

We liked the location of the westin. We did walk to JBR, I'd say it took us maybe 25 minutes and it's all on pavements and pedestrian crossings. One time we took the tram from outside the hotel to JBR but it felt like more faff than just walking! We enjoyed the drone show from the beach, can also see from the westin.

Mostly we go to dubai for some relaxation and not wall to wall sightseeing, but it works well as a balance to get out and do things a bit too. So here's what we did:

1) Top golf. This was a massive hit with all of us despite none of us knowing anything about golf!! I booked in advance paying 99aed on a Tuesday for 6.30pm. We turned up at 6.25 and our space was available at 6.30. They told me if we hadn't booked it would be 2hrs wait. I think 99 aed to book is reasonable but if you want to go on a weekend it's 210aed to book, which is £40-45 before you've even paid to play! We played for 2hours, which was 400 aed plus 20aed per person to register. They provided mini clubs for the kids. We ordered some snacks and generally loved the atmosphere. Highly highly recommend even if you're not a golf player.

2) winter wonderland and meet Santa at ski Dubai. This was well done. Less queuing than I expected. Kids enjoyed it. Spent about an hour in the snow park which was plenty.

3) private desert bbq with destination insight. Great experience. Kids loved being able to run around in the dunes and be free and the firepit to toast marshmallows. Food was excellent. We have also done platinum heritage in the past and was great to have a slightly different experience. I'd struggle to recommend which to do if had to chose one.

4) Dubai mall and fountains. Always a great evening.

We were there 9 nights. We had complimentary half board at the hotel, food was OK but not memorable. There was plenty, we had massive breakfast and then even lunch or dinner. I wouldnt pay for the half board if it wasn't "free".

Thank you for taking the time to add your feedback, and great news all went well and everyone had a lovely time 👍

Also, comments ref water park - always thought it was a bit of a 'sounds better than it actually is' perhaps dreamed up by the marketing department. That's proven by a few threads in here where people considered the water park as an 'attraction' or selling point, so it's good to see feedback as to its merits.

Top Golf is a great shout, glad you liked!

Interesting to see comments ref DI and PH, always good to see the 'big boys' showing how it's done. I always cringe a little when people see 'Desert Safari' and don't always get the difference in offering with a quality/premium provider.

Delighted to see the Ski Dubai experience worked out well. Did any of the party sneak off to the Alpine pub for snifters? 😉

Last but not least, pleased to see your comments ref how much a faff the tram is. I still have the view they built it as a revenue stream rather than performance; the amount of fines they recouped when it first opened with 'drivers' (using that term in a very loose manner) jumping the lights and crashing must have paid for some contractors....

fantastic report and thanks for the time to do it.

Westin/ mina seyai is again becoming more popular so good to get a recent view on the offers in the hotel.

did you see any issues with the HB arrangement that you had had a battle with before your arrival i take it it was a dine around option - curious as to the not memorable part was all the restaurants included as i always thought they had some decent ones on site.

Sorry about the water park real shame for a very confident swimmer esp at that age.

What are the plans for next year as prices are mad from ive seen for that area.

Nice report. Thanks for posting. How were the rooms?

Lovedogs - with the half board following my email to the hotel manager regarding prices for special dining events as stipulated in our booking contract they agreed to honour them. They also agreed to move our meal on the first night to any other day of our holiday as we didn't arrive until 10pm. I didn't even ask for this, it was offered when I asked where would we be able to eat at that time.

As for rooms, we had the cheapest room in the hotel - skyline view. It was massive, had one room with two doubles and they also offered at check in to put in a rollout bed at no cost - I was planning for my kids to share a bed but took them up on this. It was a proper single bed with proper mattress. Despite having all those beds in the room there was still plenty of room to move. We also had a king room next door which could have been made to adjoin through the front vestibule. Bathroom massive with shower and bath. Only negative was not much storage space to unpack for 4 people. We didn't have a balcony and our room looked over the road, but we were fine with this as not really there to spend time in room looking at the view. Even "sea view" would look over the marina construction opposite. We were on 6th floor and no noise.

Thanks for sharing Moonster, sounds like you had a great time.

Never heard of Top Golf, must check it out next time.

We had planned to go the the winterwonderland at Expo this time but just ran out of time, the weather was so good this Dec we were reluctant to leave the beach!

Thanks for sharing. Are you sure the DineAround by Bonvoy was not applicable when you stayed? That's a great deal and the Marriotts here have such great restaurants that its always worth it IMHO.
