Arcadia Itineraries

Arcadia review, review of arcadia.

The 2005-built Arcadia cruise ship is one of the P&O UK's "adult ships" - together with the fleetmate Aurora (since 2019).

The vessel (IMO number 9226906) is currently Bermuda- flagged (MMSI 310459000) and registered in Hamilton .

History - construction and ownership

P&O Cruises is a subsidiary company and two brands owned by Carnival Corporation - P&O UK and P&O Australia. In 2000, P&O Cruises became subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises, which merged with Carnival Corporation in 2003. P and O is the world's oldest cruise company, starting passenger shipping operations in 1822 on the routes connecting England with Iberia.

PO Arcadia cruise ship

The 2000-passenger ship Arcadia once sailed as the largest custom-built vessel for the British market - this was until P&O Cruises' Ventura joined the fleet in April 2008. Arcadia was not always marked to sail under the flag of P&O. Carnival Corporation had actually planned this vessel to be Cunard's Queen Victoria but later took the decision to allocate it to whichever one of its multifarious brands that could make the best use of it. Because of this, P&O Cruises fans might find Arcadia cruise ship's international style less to their taste than that of more classically British P&O UK liners such as Oriana; although like all the company's cruises, Arcadia scores highly on cleanliness and the kind of fluently running operation that results from the deployment of top-notch organizational skills.

Decks and Cabins

P&O Arcadia staterooms (1050 total, in 17 grades) include 62x Suites, 652x Balconies, 72x Oceanviews, 162x Inside, 6x Single cabins. Most cabins are sized 170-195 ft2 / 16-19 m2. Most cabin balconies are sized 55 ft2 / 5 m2. The largest passenger accommodations are the Aft Balcony Suites (450 ft / 42 m2, with terrace sized 300 ft2 / 28 m2).

The boat has 11 passenger decks , of which 7 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Spanning two decks, Arcadia's Meridian Dining Room (main restaurant) features a glass design and a grand central staircase. The restaurant is complimentary and serves good quality food. Breakfast features everything one would expect, from light and healthy options to British fry-up. Lunch is a la carte (including soups, lighter dishes, pies) while Afternoon Tea serves tasty treats of sandwiches, scones, cakes. For dinner, the Meridian Restaurant operates the usual dining system (with two sittings) allowing passengers to dine each night at the same table. The restaurant's upper level is for Freedom Dining, which means you can turn up at any time.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The 2-deck Palladium Theatre presents solid cruise entertainment. Passengers won't find West End shows but can expect a good spread of pleasing bands and comics, song and dance revues, aimed at British tastes. The theatre hosts 2 shows nightly, at 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm, in order to accommodate the two dining times. Organized day-time activities include traditional staples like deck quoits, shuffleboard, talks about forthcoming ports and general interest topics including art. The entertainment hosts spin tunes around the Aquarius Pool from 2 pm, where things liven up during dance parties featuring a cocktail of the day. Arcadia wiki.

MS Arcadia is one of P&O's adults-only liners - along with Oriana . Initially, the liner was ordered as Vista-Class vessel for Holland America Line . While still under construction, the shipowner Carnival Corporation allocated the vessel to Cunard Line (planned for operations as MS Queen Victoria ). Shortly before the launch in 2004, Carnival decided to transfer the vessel to P&O UK.

P&O Arcadia ( Fincantieri Marghera shipyard/hull number 6078) is powered by Wartsila-Sulzer marine diesel engines (models 16ZAV40S and 12ZAV40S) generating total power output 63,36 MW.

As a result of all these pre-launch changes, Arcadia's ship design has Cunard's mast (similar to RMS Queen Mary 2 ) and a modified funnel (instead P&O UK's traditional funnel). This makes the vessel sistership to Queen Victoria , also to Coral Princess and Island Princess , and partially to Costa 's Luminosa and Deliziosa . These are Panamax vessels, meaning their dimensions allow transition through Panama Canal 's old locks.

For P&O UK, Arcadia debuted in April 2005. The ship was named by Godmother Kelly Holmes (1970-born British athlete). The vessel underwent a major drydock refit (at Lloyd Werf shipyard in Bremerhaven Germany ) in late-2008. During the refurb, it was upgraded with 34 new cabins and the stern was extensively remodeled.

Besides Arcadia, P&O ships with annual World Cruises (ex-UK roundtrips from homeport Southampton ) are Aurora and Oriana .

Prices started from GBP 10780 (EUR 12560 / USD 14900) per person with double occupancy.

World Voyage 2023 was also offered for booking in smaller segments.

The list of deck plan changes after the 2017 drydock (November 1-14, done in Hamburg Germany at the Blohm+Voss shipyard) includes:

  • The 3-deck high Atrium (including the ship's Reception) was updated with new carpets and furniture (chairs, banquettes, cushions).

  • All Suites were refreshed with new design, new color scheme, new furniture (sofabeds, armchairs, coffee tables, lamps), new curtains, bed cushions, throws.

The boat's 2013 drydock (November-December) resulted in:

  • The Globe Lounge became the Electra Disco
  • Orchid restaurant became “East”
  • Crow’s Nest Lounge refit and renovation (added new bar).

The 2008 drydock (at Lloyd Werft Germany, 24-day refit at the Bremerhaven yards) included:

P&O Cruises has been well known and loved in the UK for 175 years. Since 2015, the cruise line has also become increasingly established on the German market. Guests appreciate the traditional high sea experience with a typically British flair. Knowledge of the English language is important to get on board. The fleet of P&O Cruises is child friendly, except the M / S Arcadia and the M / S Oriana that are ships for adults only. The board currency on all ships is the British pound.

The M / S Arcadia was commissioned in 2005 and last renovated in 2018. At a length of 285 m and with 11 passenger decks the ship can accommodate up to 2094 passengers. The M / S Arcadia is one of the two vessels of the cruise line, which is reserved for adult guests only. Its special features include the glass elevator on the outside and an extensive art collection with 3000 works. Food and Beverages

All meals in the main and buffet restaurants, snacks, cabin service and afternoon tea are already included on board, as well as coffee, tea, water and juices in the buffet restaurants. The dishes, while simple, are masterfully presented, delivering exceptional flavours. And in the spirit of all great London grill restaurants, the ambience is relaxed yet sophisticated.

Cafe Vivo

Just a few steps away from Arcadia’s shops, this fantastic coffee shop is a great place to take a break and people watch.

Located on the starboard side of Promenade Deck, between the Library and The Screening Room, is Caffè Vivo. Adorned with brown leather sofas, high tables and stools and wooden floors, Caffè Vivo takes its cues from the warmth and vibrancy of the Mediterranean and provides a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Relax over a delectable cookie or pastry with a magazine, refresh your palate with a smoothie or freshly squeezed juice, or opt for a lunchtime snack. With anything from salads and bagels, to crostini and noodles on the menu, Caffè Vivo is much more than simply a coffee bar.

A small supplement applies to each item, apart from breakfast, which is included in the price of your holiday.

Afternoon Tea by Eric Lanlard

As you’d expect from the imagination of master pâtissier Eric Lanlard, there are some delicious surprises waiting to be plucked from each tempting cake stand. Prepare yourself to be tempted by treats such as savoury Porcini and pancetta éclairs, pistachio petit choux with red berries, marble swirls red velvet cake pops and orange blossom and bee pollen scones. Eric’s unique twist on this classic British institution elevates the humble afternoon tea into something utterly decadent.

Main Restaurant

Chatter and laughter fills our main restaurant venues, with friendly waiters to greet guests and prepare tables ahead of a tasty breakfast, relaxed lunch, or sublime evening meal. Expect to find British classics on the menu as well as exotic flavours for the more adventurous. On every cruise you’ll also be wowed by an extra special, five-course Gala Dinner devised by the legendary godfather of British cooking, Marco Pierre White.

Poolside Grill

When you’re lying on a lounger and feeling peckish, choose a freshly made snack from the mouth-watering selection at your ship’s poolside grill.

Bite into a juicy burger with a patty made to a special recipe exclusively for our grills. Or make a hot dog even more delicious with your favourite tasty toppings.

Our ever-evolving menus feature Flavours of the Day that change throughout your cruise, and each dish is crafted from fresh, quality ingredients. It’s the perfect option if you fancy a light bite or you’re dashing to your next adventure and need to grab your lunch and go. Even better, it’s included in the price of your holiday!

The Palladium

The Palladium

Arcadia’s impressive three tier theatre, The Palladium, is located at the very forward end of the ship. Inside you will find comfortable theatre-style-seating arcs around the stage in three tiers, affording you excellent views of the stage. In The Palladium, the drama is not confined to the stage, as the décor adds a theatrical touch of its own. A rich colour scheme of royal blue, violet, midnight blue and silver sets off the main attraction – the shows themselves! Suede and crushed velvet adds an opulent touch, ensuring The Palladium has all the magic and anticipation of the West End!

The Crow’s Nest

The Crow’s Nest

On Sun Deck forward is where you will find the appropriately named Crow’s Nest. This relaxed lounge offers visitors sweeping panoramic ocean views and a convivial atmosphere. By day, you can sit back and relax with a book in one hand and a coffee in the other, pausing every now and again to enjoy the view. At night you’ll be able to enjoy your favourite tipple to the sound of tinkling ivories. Jazz nights, cabaret and dancing all make the Crow’s Nest a perfectly relaxed and elegant post-dinner venue.

Monte Carlo Casino

Monte Carlo Casino

The Monte Carlo Casino is a great place to continue a fun night out after post dinner drinks or a show. The Monte Carlo Casino is conveniently located on F Deck forward next to the theatre and nightclub. It is adorned with rich fabrics including purple leather chairs around purple felt gaming tables and gives the casino a sumptuous, glamorous feel. In addition to the roulette table, two blackjack tables and three card poker table, you will find over 40 slot machines. The fun carpet complements the room well, reflecting the colour scheme of the yellows and purples of the furniture.

The Globe

The Globe provides a wealth of entertainment. You enter this room from the starboard side corridor, and as you do so, you’ll be met by a shining black marble bar with small starlights sparkling overhead. As the name suggests the room is circular and its subtle lighting brings a warm ambience to the room in the form of recessed lights and elegant lamps. Curvy seating and a black and gold colour scheme continue the room’s classy atmosphere and fluid lines. Here you might catch the latest film release on its cinema screen, attend an art auction, enjoy a late night cabaret or boogie the night away to some live music.

The Screening Room

The Screening Room

This 30-seat boutique cinema is Arcadia’s dedicated space for showing films on board. You’ll find the cinema positioned on the starboard side of Promenade Deck, aft of the forward lifts and adjacent to the Horizon Suite

Intermezzo

Make your evening that little bit more special with a visit to Intermezzo, an exclusive cocktail and Champagne bar located on F Deck. Luxuriate with a glass of Champagne or your favourite cocktail. Feature columns are dressed in rich sheer curtains, adding soft lighting by evening when the columns are lit from within. Classy, modern and the place to be seen, Intermezzo provides an elegant backdrop for an unforgettable evening.

Spinnaker Bar

Spinnaker Bar

Nestled between Intermezzo and the Meridian Restaurant, is the yacht-inspired Spinnaker Bar. Its sophisticated yachting theme is evident in its contemporary décor, featuring wood, steel and chrome, it has porthole style mirrors and ship memorabilia. As it is just off the central walkway and close to the restaurants and evening entertainment, you will find that it is the perfect meeting place for a pre or post dinner tipple.

Piano Bar

Situated at the very heart of the ship on Promenade Deck is the tastefully designed Piano Bar. Its position at the top of the atrium means it benefits from a close view of the intricate glass ceiling created by the artist Jo Downs. The light emanating from its rich hues of purples, pinks and blues combines with light wood walls and a low ceiling to give the Piano Bar an intimate evening feel. As the name suggests, in pride of place is the piano, where the resident pianist provides a backdrop to your conversation.

The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun

Walk into The Rising Sun and the only thing to remind you you’re not in a fine old country pub may be the ever-changing view from the window. As befits such a traditional establishment, there’s a jukebox and snug bar creating a buzzy pub atmosphere, with everything from darts, karaoke, live music, pub quizzes and major sporting event screenings to keep you entertained.

East Bar

You will find East Bar at the highest point of the ship – Sky Deck. As you enter this colonial style bar you are welcomed by an array of drawings and paintings created by Martin Williams, which form a travelogue of journeys through Asia. As the sun sets and warm ambient light pours into the room, you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink before dining on the most wonderful Asian cuisine in the nearby Sindhu, or stop by later for a post-dinner drink.

Neptune Bar

Neptune Bar

The Neptune’s Bar is protected by the sliding glass Skydome, including the Neptune Pool and Neptune Grill, so you won’t have to worry about it raining on your fun!

Aquarius Bar

At the stern of Lido Deck, just forward of the Aquarius Pool is the Aquarius Bar. Enjoy a brief respite from the sun on one of its stools or stay on your deck lounger and have a refreshing cocktail – or two!

Adorned with brown leather sofas, high tables and stools and wooden floors, Caffè Vivo provides a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

You’re never far from a refreshing drink, served with a smile at one of our deck bars. Serving a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks.
