The Rolling Stones announce 2017 ‘No Filter’ European tour

'Hey guys, here we come'

The Rolling Stones have announced details of their ‘No Filter’ tour – hitting European stadiums in 2017. Full dates and ticket details are below, and see the trailer above.

The rock veterans are back to play 13 shows in 12 different European cities this Autumn, kicking off in Hamburg in September.

As well as their usual catalogue of classic singles and fan favourites, this time the band also promise to “include a couple of unexpected tracks each night and randomly selected surprises from their formidable arsenal of songs”.

“I’m so excited to be touring Europe this Autumn and returning to some familiar places and some we’ve never done before,” said frontman Mick Jagger, while guitarist Keith Richards simply added ““Hey guys, here we come. See you there!”

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones’ upcoming ‘No Filter’ European tour dates are below. Tickets go on sale later this week and will be available here .

9 September – Hamburg, Germany: Stadtpark 12 September – Munich, Germany: Olympic Stadium 16 September – Spielberg, Austria: Spielberg at Red Bull Ring 20 September – Zurich, Switzerland: Letzigrund Stadium 23 September – Lucca, Italy: Lucca Summer Festival-City Walls 27 September – Barcelona, Spain: Olympic Stadium 30 September – Amsterdam, Holland: Amsterdam ArenA 3 October – Copenhagen, Denmark: Parken Stadium 9 October – Dusseldorf, Germany: Esprit arena 12 October – Stockholm, Sweden: Friends Arena 15 October – Arnhem, Holland: GelreDome 19 October – Paris, France: U Arena 22 October – Paris, France: U Arena

It was recently revealed that Jagger has written a ‘masterpiece’ memoir , but would likely never publish it.

Writer and publisher John Blake mades the claim in an article for The Spectator , in which he alleges to have the manuscript kept in a “secret hiding place”.

Blake says that it was written in late ’70s when Jagger was paid an advance of £1 million, which he eventually gave back. It offers an “extraordinary insight” into the singer and “shows a quieter, more watchful Mick than the fast-living caricature”.

The Rolling Stones Wrap 3-Leg, 3-Year No Filter Tour With $415.6 Million

The Rolling Stones Wrapped the No Filter Tour with $416 million, becoming one of the 10 highest grossing tours of all time.

The Rolling Stones

With a career that spans six decades and too many honors and distinctions to list, The Rolling Stones can add one more to the list. Their three-year, three-leg No Filter Tour wrapped on Aug. 30, 2019 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. And with the final numbers reported, they now are the only artist to have two tours among Billboard’s all-time top 10. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, The No Filter Tour grossed $415.6 million and sold 2,290,871 tickets, joining A Bigger Bang Tour on the list of the top 10 highest grossing tours in Boxscore’s history.

The Stones began their tour in September of 2017, playing 14 stadium shows in Europe. That opening leg grossed $120 million, highlighted by a three-night stint at the U Arena in Paris, where they earned $18.5 million and sold over 100,000 tickets between Oct. 19 and 25, 2017. On the Billboard Boxscore 2017 year-end charts, the Brits ranked No. 7.

The band returned to Europe a year later for another 14 shows between May 17 and July 8, 2018. That leg grossed $117.8 million, adding another top 10 year-end ranking to their belt, at No. 8 for 2018. At London Stadium, they set a new high mark for the tour, earning $20.5 million and selling 137,475 tickets on May 22 and 25. That double header remains the highest-grossing show in the venue’s history.

The Rolling Stones Roar Into New Jersey On No Filter Tour

And finally, The Rolling Stones came stateside, playing 16 shows in North America, beginning on June 21, 2019 at Chicago’s Soldier Field, and wrapping on Aug. 30 in Miami. These dates managed a gigantic $177.8 million haul. Once again, they outdid themselves, amassing $25.5 million over two nights (Aug. 1 and 5) at the New-York-area MetLife Stadium (the venue is in East Rutherford, N.J.).

The Stones maximized their touring prowess in North America, averaging a freakish $11.1 million per show in 2019, after pacing $8.5 million per show in Europe throughout 2017-18. The stadiums in the U.S. and Canada were slightly smaller, at 49,041 tickets per night (53,794 in Europe) but the band made up for it by stretching North American tickets to an average of $282.80, 79% higher than the $157.88 price overseas.

In all, their $415.6 million total makes the No Filter Tour the eight highest grossing tour of all time. The band’s A Bigger Bang Tour (2005-07) held the all-time record with $558 million until U2 surpassed them with the 360° Tour (2009-11), grossing $736.4 million. Most recently, Ed Sheeran finished The Divide Tour (2017-19) with a whopping $776.2 million, setting the new all-time standard.

Ed Sheeran's Record-Breaking Divide Tour Posts Final Numbers: 255 Shows, $776.2 Million Grossed

The No Filter Tour makes The Rolling Stones the first act to gross more than $400 million on two separate tours.

See below for the updated all-time top 10 grossing tours, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.

Rank. Artist: Tour – Gross in USD

1. Ed Sheeran: The Divide Tour – $776 million (2017-19) 2. U2: 360 ° Tour: $736 million (2009-11) 3. The Rolling Stones: A Bigger Bang Tour – $558 million (2005-07) 4.  Guns N’ Roses : Not in This Lifetime Tour – $530 million (2016-ongoing) 5.  Coldplay : A Head Full of Dreams Tour – $523 million (2016-17) 6.  Roger Waters : The Wall Live – $459 million (2010-13) 7.  AC/DC : Black Ice World Tour – $441 million (2008-10) 8. The Rolling Stones: No Filter Tour – $416 million (2017-19) 9.  Bruno Mars : 24K Magic World Tour – $412 million (2017-18) 10.  Madonna : Sticky & Sweet Tour – $408 million (2008-09)

The No Filter Tour is the second-highest grossing tour in the Stones’ Boxscore archives. It trails the $558 million from A Bigger Bang Tour, but eclipses the Voodoo Lounge Tour ($319.5 million; 1994-95) and the Licks Tour ($299.5 million; 2002-03). Since the inception of Billboard Boxscore, The Rolling Stones have grossed an enormous $2.386 billion and sold 27.2 million tickets over a reported 679 concerts.

stones tour 2017

The Rolling Stones are one of the most influential and longest-lasting bands to cross over during the ’60s British Invasion. The group stands as one of the best-selling acts of all time with 200 million records sold worldwide, and is responsible for two of the highest-grossing tours of all time within the last two decades. Blending blues and rock, the first main lineup of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts broke out in 1965 with their first chart-topping album Out of Our Heads and back-to-back Hot 100 No. 1 singles “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” and “Get Off of My Cloud.” The group topped the Hot 100 again with 1966’s “Paint It, Black,” 1967’s “Ruby Tuesday” and 1969’s “Honky Tonk Women.” With the addition of guitarist Mick Taylor, The Rolling Stones released their second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with 1971’s Sticky Fingers , kicking off a streak of eight consecutive chart-topping debuts through 1981’s Tattoo You . Ronnie Wood made his debut as Taylor’s full-time replacement with 1978’s Some Girls , which hosted the group’s Hot 100 No. 1 “Miss You.” The Rolling Stones were the recipients of The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. They collected their first of three career Grammy Awards in 1995. The group broke the record for highest-grossing tour in 1990 and reclaimed the top spot in 1995 and 2007, becoming the only band to headline the highest-grossing tour of the decade twice. The No Filter World Tour from 2017 to 2021 closed as the fifth highest-earning tour ever. Most recently, the band released their first album of original material in 18 years, 2023’s Hackney Diamonds .

Greatest Rock & Roll Band in The World

Since Altamont when Hells Angel Alan Passaro put a knife in Hunter. The Drama of The Stones started. They have always been the Bad Boys of R&R. Nothings changed ! They are still showing us who they are and with class ! At 80 Mick can run circles around any other front man in the business. Look for another Grammy or two from these guys. Tuck Faylor Swift ! haven't missed a show ever. Levi stadium sucks for sound and a two bite hotdog is $8.00. Levi policies & rules suck as well. Curfew & No Fireworks........Not the Stones fault....Thanks York @levi. Dedicated to Charlie Watts the Badest Stone of All Time. We will meet again my brother.

Everyone should see The Rolling Stones

I’ve been to dozens of Rolling Stones concerts & they always amaze & excite, the ultimate tours from the Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World

Love the stones

I have seen the Stones live, at least once a decade since my first concert in 1965. I’m currently in queue for the Denver event in June 2024. It’s not lost on me that I have a pre sales code through AARP!

Disappointed aarp

I’ve tried to get on. My aarp account won’t let me in and aarp didn’t give me a passcode. Very frustrating

Glimmer twins

Live in NY, never missed a Stones show, they NEVER disappoint!!!

Best Band. Best Show.

I saw them in Charlotte two years ago, about a month after they lost Charlie. The show was amazing. Over two hours of their absolute best songs. It was even better than when I saw them back in ‘98. They’re still the best there is.

MetLife Stadium 8/2019

One of the best concerts I have ever attended. So lucky to have seen them live. Once in a lifetime experience.

Damn Im a lucky man for seeing them, wow !!

Saw them at Bank of America Stadium outside in September, 72° at night with no Carolina humidity.. and it just shot to the top of my list as the best concert I’ve ever seen. I’ve been going to concerts as teenager and 20s and still seeing at 550 years old. but seeing great bands for many years now and it was just absolutely incredible. I have seen them before but this tour, the sound was just incredible. They never missed a beat Bill Wyman had passed two weeks prior. Steve Jordan filled in with and did an incredible job playing with the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band ever. It was just an amazing night when I say I’m a lucky man I got a ticket for one and just the best concert I’ve ever been too, incredible. Micks voice is just solid sound like the y did 50 years ago. Keith and the grin , hell yeh !! Keith smooth as ever on the guitar… the back up singers were top notch and the whole band !! Now AllI want to do is go see the Rolling Stones so I keep checking here. Please make a small tour. I don’t care if you can do 4 shows in the US I’ll be at one of them, it was that damn good, I thank ya Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones in Spielberg Austria 2017

stones tour 2017

Spielberg Austria was the next stop on the tour, a place in the middle of nowhere, as it seems. I was at the same location in 1995, i.e. twentytwo years ago. Then The Rolling Stones performed a show at what was then called Zeltweg, Austria, August 1, 1995. It is a Formula One racetrack, still is, now called Red Bull Ring. That time I was on tour with Interrail travel across Europe. This time there was no time for train travels, I was flying in and out. Still, my “home base” was the beautiful nearby Austrian city of Graz. It may have been twentytwo years ago, but the memories from Graz 1995 was still in my mind. I wanted to see Graz one more time.

It took all of Wednesday September 13 to get back home from Munich Germany. With departure from the Munich hotel in the morning, then arriving home ten hours later, working on the airport, and on the flight, I was completely exausted from lack of sleep and rest as I arrived back home. I was home for 36 hours, with business meetings Thursday, then a flight out of Oslo Airport by noon Friday. First to Vienna Austria, then another flight to Graz. A short train ride to the city center of Graz, and then I am at my hotel Austria Trend Hotel Europa Graz in the evening. Such a great place, five minutes walk from the main station, five minutes walk to the rental car location of my choice, but still miles and hours away from Spielberg…

Saturday Sept 14 it is show day. No time to work, just updating the web with a Spielberg live thread, reading through e-mail, then getting the rental car, which is the only way I can get to the show. All other options are sold out, like shuttle, train, and I need to be on a flight back home tomorrow, so I have to stay in Graz. I have two hours around noon set aside to walk all over Graz, it is a beautiful city, and I get to see most parts of it. If I know I would walk for hours later on today, then may be I had saved a bit on the tourist walking, but some times you don’t know what the rest of the day will bring you.

I know I can’t drive to the show, then I will be stuck out there all night, so I plan for driving to a train station location 7-8 km i.e. five miles away from the show, then taking a shuttle there. I book my shuttle ticket online and start driving from Graz early afternoon. There are queues and worries, but finally I arrive to the shuttle and train station at 5pm.

There are several hundred fans at the station waiting for a shuttle, but no shuttles arriving in the 40 minutes I am waiting. Then the police start talking in German language, they say we have to walk, the shuttle transportation is stuck in traffic. So we start walking. We are hundreds of fans and we walk. One and a half hour later I see the stage. There is mud everywhere. I circle the area to get to the entrance, then some queuing up. There is mud everywhere. I am by the stage area at 7:20 and finally I can rest a bit. I am thursty and hungry and get some junkfood and drinks. Within half an hour I feel better and I am ready for rock’n’roll. Less than an hour later, at 8:44pm, The Rolling Stones are on stage. I wonder how many are still out there walking to the show, or waiting for the shuttle, or struggling with the mud… It is a hazzle, indeed, but once the Stones are on stage, it is all forgotten, as always.

This is bits from my Spielberg show report:

“She’s A Rainbow” was long and beautiful. I enjoyed every bit of it. Keith walked over to Chuck for a while. Mick had his acoustic guitar so he was “parked” at the center stage for a change. At the end of the song Mick wanted to hold on to the acoustic guirat, because he planned to use it also on the next song, but his guitar technician asked him to hand it over, with a big smile. Another acoustic guitar was there for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

“Paint It Black” was Keith Richards up front starting up the song. Beautiful and perfect for me. Then Mick took over, with the rest of the band.

At the end of “Jumping Jack Flash” I see Mick and Keith together arm in arm on the stage front, smiling, having their own shared moment of satisfaction. You don’t see these moments if you listen to youtube clips from the shows, but I have them kept in my memory for life, and luckily Hauke Jürgensen made a photo of this great moment, so that it can be shared with everyone on these pages, as you see in these reports pictures.

I had been in my own “Stones World” for two hours ten minutes. As the final bow was over, I was back to my mud reality in Spielberg. I met some friends, picked up the set list, used one of the socalled emergency exits, which they probably did not plan to use, and started walking around 11:30pm. By 1am I was in my car, and by 2:25am I was in my hotel room. The mud was up to my knees, so I washed the pants and my shoes, having got no extras on this short travel. Tomorrow I will be home, then Tuesday evening I am heading for show number four in Zurich Switzerland. I have said it before and I have said it again. There may be pain involved in seing the Stones these days. We are getting older, they are getting older. But it is all worth it. They are so great, and there were more than 100,000 fans walking next to me with smiles on their faces as we had the long walks back to our reality outside Stonesland.

These are the complete reports and pictures from the show:
