Despite all the (obvious) positives, traveling can wreak havoc on your skin. Among the culprits: new climates, indulgent food and drinks , fatigue, drying plane cabin air, and more. For this reason, you’ll want to pack a skincare regimen that counteracts these stressors as well as targets your unique everyday needs regardless of the location.

To help you choose the best travel kit for your next adventure , we researched and rounded up selections that address a variety of circumstances and skin concerns, and fall under the TSA 3-1-1 guidelines . Our overall favorite, Fenty Skin’s The Glow Around 4-piece Travel Skincare Essentials Set, stands out for its consolidated product lineup with multifunctional items, a reasonable price point, and the versatility to be used on nearly any type of skin. But, if you want to target specific concerns or environmental stressors, read on. We’ve culled the best items for a multitude of scenarios.

These are the best travel skincare sets to shop:

Best Overall

Fenty skin the glow around 4-piece travel skincare essentials set.

Multiple products in this vegan kit do double duty, and SPF is included.

If you prefer an even more minimalistic travel skin routine, shop the brand’s three-piece set instead.

We’ve long been traveling with Fenty Beauty products in tow, and this skincare assembly — featuring standouts from Rihanna’s Fenty Skin line — is our number one pick. The vegan set, suited for normal, dry, combination, and oily skin types, includes four miniature skincare products: an antioxidant-packed cleanser, a toner-serum hybrid, a moisturizer with sun protection, and an AHA exfoliator with a reusable applicator. It has just a little more than the bare necessities to help combat travel-induced skin stress, but it’s not excessive either; it’ll all easily fit inside a clear quart-sized bag, and won’t break the bank.

We especially love that multiple products in the kit do double duty. The 1.5-ounce Total Cleans’r face wash easily wipes away dirt, oil, and makeup, eliminating the need to pack a separate makeup-removing product. The lightweight 1-ounce Hydra Vizor moisturizer contains SPF 30 and also works well as a primer. Furthermore, the moisturizer’s pump-style container is extra sanitary for travel (so you’re not transferring any germs from your fingers into a product tub). For those who prefer a more minimal routine, the brand also offers a three-piece version of the travel kit (sans exfoliator), which comes with a trial-sized body cream.

Best Overall, Runner-up

35thousand all the radiance set.

Four full-sized products (1.7 ounces each) including an SPF 30 serum and bamboo washcloth come in a clear zip case.

It’s on the more expensive side for the size.

If you’ve never heard of 35thousand, it’s a skincare line that was made for travel — literally. All of the brand’s products are travel-friendly in terms of size, containers, and the skin concerns they address. The set is more of a splurge, but that’s because each product in this vegan kit was carefully designed to function in place of multiple other products. For example, the makeup-removing cleansing balm can double as a hydration mask when left on skin for 10-20 minutes. Or, try the refreshing and toning mist in place of water (along with the cleanser) if you don’t have access to a sink.

We love that the day serum includes SPF 30 and a subtle tint hint for added glow while on the move, and the hyaluronic acid-rich cream delivers much needed hydration. The best part? The items come housed in a clear zip case (with room for a few more products) and there’s a mini bamboo washcloth which comes in a smaller zip case to keep it separate from the rest of your stash.

Best for Sensitive Skin

Ren clean skincare evercalm skin zen trio.

Natural ingredients like plant oils can help soothe delicate skin.

You may want to consult your dermatologist first if your skin is highly sensitive.

If your skin tends to be fickle, you may want to follow a less-is-more approach to your routine. Enter this three-piece system, which includes only the essentials. The ultra-gentle cleansing milk is the perfect wash for delicate skin, and the kit follows that with a calming cream for daytime and a recovery balm with an intensely nourishing barrier for bedtime. Even if you don’t generally have sensitive skin, travel conditions (such as plane cabins, new climates, and bedsheet fabrics you’re not used to) can cause your skin to flare up on vacation, and these soothing products featuring sea buckthorn berry, jojoba, and sunflower seed oils can be a welcome relief.

Best for Combination Skin

Caudalie vinoperfect brightening solution set.

The oil-free gel moisturizer is great for warmer climates.

If you prefer a more matte finish, you might not love the pearlescent moisturizer.

Designed to target uneven skin texture, this three-piece set includes a gentle glycolic essence (which the brand recommends applying with a cotton round after cleansing), a dark spot serum (to be used on face, neck, and décolleté), and a brightening moisturizer (to be slathered on morning and night, after serum application). The oil-free moisturizer has a lightweight gel texture, which makes it a great companion for trips to warmer climates. It also has pearlescent minerals which deliver an immediate visible glow to skin.

Best for Oily Skin

Priori the clear skin now kit.

This no-fuss routine is aimed at clearing and soothing blemish-prone skin.

To avoid possible irritation, start slow with the gel perfector only.

If your skin tends to break out under stress, you’ll need targeted products to combat the effects of a change in daily routine. This small-but-mighty set includes a two-week supply of skincare essentials designed to offer blemish control and clear oily skin. The first step is a calming lactic acid cleanser, which is still tough enough to remove eye makeup. Next comes a salicylic acid gel perfector aimed at balancing oily skin that can lead to breakouts, and that doubles as a mattifying primer. (The brand recommends starting usage at a few times a week to see how your skin reacts and before bumping up to daily application.) Finally, there’s an oil-free, silky-smooth replenishing moisturizer, which can also be used post sunburn to soothe skin.

Best for Dry Skin

Biossance miracle moisture set.

Four squalene-packed products work in tandem to help target parched skin.

The set does not include a cleanser or a product with SPF.

Plane cabins are practically synonymous with dry skin. That’s because an aircraft’s filtration system — which takes in outside air and circulates it in the cabin — causes humidity to drop well below what is comfortable for most people. Each of the four steps in this routine (a soothing eye cream, a plumping serum, a rich moisturizer, and a finishing Vitamin C oil) contain squalane , an ingredient said to have powerful hydrating properties. Not only is the kit a good fit for anyone with naturally drier skin or who may be experiencing abnormal dryness due to time of year or destination climates, but it can be great to boost lost moisture due to the flight alone. We love that this set includes a really creamy eye product, since delicate eye-area skin might need a little extra love after an aptly monikered red-eye flight .

Best for Normal Skin

Olehenriksen find your glow brightening skincare set.

Packed with vitamin C, these products can help brighten dull, travel-stressed skin.

This set does not include SPF, and you’ll want to layer some of top of any areas where PHAs were applied.

If your skin isn’t fussy, you can focus your routine on products that target long-term skin concerns. Olehenriksen’s four-piece set is anchored by the hero ingredient Vitamin C , which can treat photoaging and hyperpigmentation. An orange fruit water-based daily cleanser, a Vitamin C serum, a nourishing gel cream, and a color-correcting eye cream are designed to help improve luminosity, which can certainly suffer when we put our skin through the stress of traveling. The weightless-feeling gel is cool to the touch, making this set ideal for warmer-weather locations — but don’t forget to pack SPF for vital sun protection, which is not included in this kit.

Best for Lips

Fresh sugar collection lip care set.

These tiny lip balms deliver moisture and a variety of subtle colors.

Depending on the length of your trip, you may not need five different options.

We’ve talked a lot about skin dryness due to travel, but don’t neglect your parched pout. Fresh’s cult-favorite Sugar lip products are famous for delivering moisture along with subtle, buildable color. They’ll do double duty on your next trip by replenishing chapped lips and potentially replacing any lipsticks you might have considered packing.

This five-piece set includes mini versions of the brand’s best-selling colorless Advanced Therapy lip treatment (a must-have to combat drying plane cabin air), refreshing and softening Mint Rush, and three buildable tinted balms. The color balms — in rosé (a rosy pink), honey (a warm terracotta), and petal (a nude blush) — deliver a subtle tint with one swipe and a deeper shade when layered. If you don’t feel like carrying five lip products, the brand also makes a three-piece set .

Best for Eyes

Charlotte tilbury recovery skin set.

A cult-favorite cream is coupled with two soothing, hydrating serums.

This set is best suited for normal and dry skin types and does not include any cleansing products or SPF.

Jet lag, lack of sleep on red-eye flights, and more can all add up to dryness and redness around the eye area while jet setting. Charlotte Tilbury’s Recovery Skin Set is designed to restore hydration and plumpness with its trio of soothing products. Included is a half-ounce container of the celebrity-loved brand ’s cult-favorite hyaluronic acid-based Magic Cream, a mini serving of a lightweight Vitamin C serum, and a depuffing eye serum containing caffeine. We especially love the eye serum because it has a metal applicator tip which delivers a cooling sensation to your eye area when applied.

Best for In-flight Use

Shielded beauty self defense system set.

We keep these moisturizing minis close while in the air to replenish skin mid-flight.

You’ll need to pack other skincare items for a full routine as this set only has a hydrating mist, facial moisturizer, and hand and body lotion.

Plane cabins are notoriously harsh on skin and just a couple of hours in the air can leave your epidermis feeling parched. Whenever we fly, we love to keep a teeny bottle of hydrating mist — such as the soothing and energizing spritz in this three-piece kit — handy for a little mid-flight refresh. You can even apply it over makeup. Equally essential: the hand and body lotion which can aid any exposed body skin pre-, mid-, and post-flight and the nourishing facial moisturizer. Designed to protect skin against environmental elements, this set is also ideal for packing for new climates that your skin isn’t accustomed to.

Best for Warmer Climates

Image skincare ready, set, discover set.

A minimalistic skincare routine means more time for soaking in your trip .

If you prefer a more radiant finish on your beauty products, the mattifying moisturizer might not be your favorite.

When outdoor activities are on the itinerary, sun protection should be at the top of your packing list (yes, even in colder locations). With ingredients designed to hydrate and brighten — plus SPF — Image Skincare’s three-item set is a great low-fuss find for beach or warm-weather vacations. It starts with a mild cleanser, which is followed by a hydrating and brightening hyaluronic acid- and Vitamin C-packed serum. The last step, a mattifying moisturizer, offers SPF 30 sun protection. A bonus: The products come in a reusable TSA-friendly clear zip case that gives you one less thing to think about while packing for your next adventure.

Best for Colder Climates

Glossier the skincare edit.

The kit comes with two of Glossier’s cult-favorite lip balm minis.

None of the included products have any SPF.

Cold, dry air can quickly lead to skin dryness and redness as well as chapped lips. If you’re traveling to a climate that’s chillier than you’re used to, Glossier’s Skincare Edit set could be a great companion. It includes mini versions of the brand’s makeup-removing Milky Jelly Cleanser, the hydrating Super Bounce Serum (which they recommend pressing 3-4 drops gently into skin after cleansing), a shea- and murumuru-butter-rich moisturizer (which doubles as a primer), and Futuredew (an oil-serum hybrid that should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine, after sunscreen). We love that this kit also gives you two Balm Dotcom lip balms (one non-tinted and one barely-there pink), which will certainly come in handy if your lips dry out when temperatures drop. A bonus: it includes a nylon-spandex headband that's ideal for washing your face, and everything comes in a molded, recyclable paper case.

Tips for Buying Travel-sized Skincare Kits

Prioritize portability.

When traveling, especially via plane, you’ll want your skincare regimen to follow certain guidelines. First, anything going in your carry-on should adhere to the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule (all liquids, gels, and aerosols must be in containers of 3.4 ounces or less and should all fit into a single, clear quart-sized bag). You’ll also want to minimize the number of products you’re hauling as much as possible, per the quart-sized bag.

Consider your usual skin concerns and the climate at your destination

You’ll also want to think about the specific stressors your skin will be exposed to on your trip and stock up on products that can help combat those: Will you be spending ample time in the sun? Are you entering drying, cold weather? Will you be wearing more makeup than usual? These are all things to take into consideration when shopping for products to pack for your next vacation.

13 Best Travel Toiletry Bottles Editor Tested Leakproof Reusable

All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

Beauty and skincare products like shampoo, moisturizer, and face wash are essential on every packing list , whether you're heading to a hotel or are staying with friends or family. Since buying miniature versions of your favorite products can be expensive—and typically means purchasing a whole lot of single-use plastics—having practical and reliable toiletry travel bottles you can pull out for every trip is a must.

To make sure the reusable bottles we're throwing in our Dopp kit are easy to use and don't leak, we tested out a variety of affordable travel sets to see which ones actually get the job done. Below, you'll find 13 of the best travel toiletry bottles that will protect the contents of your luggage—and all of the creams, soaps, and serums you've shelled out for—and keep you organized on the go. Even better, all of these picks are TSA-friendly in size, so you don't have to worry about any of your favorite products being thrown out at the airport. As an added bonus, many of these travel bottles are available on Amazon Prime, so you can get your hands on them quickly before a last-minute getaway.

How we tested

I scoured the internet to find the most popular travel toiletry bottles—searching a variety of retailers, reading hundreds of reviews, and considering online ratings. After my initial research, I put many reusable toiletry bottles to the test, trying out dozens of options that range in price, size, and design. I've had some of these toiletry bottles for over a year and they've accompanied me on a mix of weeklong vacations in checked luggage and short weekend trips in tightly-packed duffel bags .

Over the last several months, I tested another batch of options: I've filled them with a variety of skincare, hair care, and body products—thick body wash, contact solution, and leave-in conditioner included. I've even left these filled containers upside down overnight to see if there were any unexpected leaks. My findings: There are many great options on the market to choose from and you don't need to break the bank to find the perfect set for you. Below, the best travel toiletry bottles to pack wherever you're headed next .

travel size containers for skincare

No matter how organized I try to stay, my bathroom counter at every hotel always becomes cluttered with my many toiletries and hair products . The LiquiSnugs look like your classic silicone travel bottles, but they feature a clever suction cup on the back that allows you to stick them onto any shower wall—freeing up limited counter space. These are great for in-shower products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. This set of four bottles features two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles, so you can choose how much product you need depending on the length of your trip. Another smart design feature: Twist the top to adjust the label name so you won't forget what's inside. I've had these for about a year now and I consistently reach for these to pack shampoo and conditioner.

Pros : The unique suction cup design makes them great for shower products.

Cons : These occasionally will fall off shower walls if there's not a little bit of water to keep them in place.

travel size containers for skincare

This Amazon bestseller is versatile enough for every type of traveler. The 18-pack from Tocelffe features four silicone bottles of varying size (two 3-ounce bottles and two 2-ounce bottles), four small jars for creams and serums, two spray bottles, two spatulas, a funnel, labels, and a cleaning brush. These all come in a waterproof toiletry bag that you can reuse to carry makeup or tech essentials. In this set, I find myself mostly reaching for the ultra-soft silicone bottles, which are great for products like body wash, face cleanser, and micellar water. Each of these bottles feature three-layer leak-proof tops so you don't have to worry about spills in your bag. Something I love about these bottles is how they can be bent and squeezed easily to get every last bit of product out of them.

Pros: Very affordable, comes in a clear toiletry case, and the bottles' wide opening makes it easy to refill. Cons: The small plastic jars are not as reliable as the silicone bottles in this set.

travel size containers for skincare

If you're just looking for a few affordable no-frills travel bottles, these are for you. Available in a variety of colors, the silicone bottles do just what they say they will. They're leakproof, come in a set of four, and are easy to refill and clean. While there’s no bells and whistles, these three-ounce bottles pleasantly surprised me with just how much product they fit compared to some of the other classic silicone bottles we tested, making them an ideal option for a longer vacation. Plus, these have an average of 4.5 stars on Amazon with over 11,000 global reviews.

Pros: Versatility; available in many colorways

Cons : This set doesn't come with labels or a proper toiletry case.

travel size containers for skincare

Another solid choice for travelers is this set of four 3-ounce silicone travel bottles. These are squeezable, leakproof, and versatile enough to use for everything from shower products and soaps to sauces and baby food. These reusable bottles are all the same size and each a different color so you can differentiate them. Bonus: This set comes in a transparent toiletry case to keep them all organized in.

Pros : This set is available in a dozen colorways; wide opening makes them easy to refill without needing a funnel. Cons : This set doesn't come with labels.

travel size containers for skincare

If you prefer to bring along a bar of soap instead of using what's provided at the hotel, this compact soap box is a great travel companion. Inside, there's a soap mat that absorbs any excess water and prevents the soap from becoming mushy. I've used other plastic soap cases before without a mat and it always leaves a mess. This one features a silicone band that wraps tightly around the box for extra protection, and is about the size of a deck of cards.

Pros : Fits most commonly used soap brands, affordable, and features a simple-to-use design.

Cons : The soap box needs the band to stay secure so be careful not to lose it.

travel size containers for skincare

I've been a fan of Cadence's capsules for a few years now. These leakproof, airtight, and watertight magnetic capsules are unlike any other travel bottles I've used and are a true game changer when it comes to packing your own beauty products. The individual capsules magnetically snap together to take up as little space as possible in your Dopp kit and are designed without any right angles or edges, so you get every last bit of product available.

The original .56-ounce individual capsules are great for weekend trips and storing small items like daily vitamins and safety pins. The Capsule Flex System allows you to customize your own bundle with your choice of small , medium , and large sizes, as well as The Extender —an add-on that allows you to increase the size of the bottle when you need more room. This makes it so easy to customize your travel routine, whether you want to pack extra product for longer trips or bring enough body wash for you and your travel buddy. With The Flex System, you can still choose your own label for each capsule (the labels are interchangeable), as well as the color and number of capsules in your bundle.

Pros : It's easy to get every last drop of product inside each capsule and they are so easy to rinse out and reuse. The custom labels can be swapped out depending on what you're packing.

Cons : These are the most expensive option on our list.

travel size containers for skincare

I was eager to test out the Ries travel bottles after hearing a lot of buzz about the product and seeing them make their way into retailers like Sephora and Goop. These are a more elevated, aesthetically pleasing take on the classic reusable travel bottles you may have used in the past. Ries prioritized sustainability and design with these essentials: Each bottle is made from recycled plastic and features a large opening at the top, which makes it easy to refill and clean (not to mention, they're dishwasher safe). Travelers can purchases these bottles individually (a 3.4-ounce bottle or a 1.7-ounce bottle) or in a set with both sizes . My favorite thing about these bottles is the airless pump—I feel so glamorous while doing my nighttime skincare routine with these, and it makes it easier to use products like face wash or cleanser on the road. The bottles are pre-labeled (shampoo, conditioner, body, face) and you can twist the top to the side to conceal the opening, so product won't spill out.

Pros : Sustainably made; if you prefer a pump, these are for you.

Cons : On the pricier side; the bottles are a bit bulky and take up a little more room in my makeup bag than most travel-size products I use.

travel size containers for skincare

Finally, a solution to my contact lens woes. I can't count the number of times I've stopped into a drugstore to buy a mini bottle of contact lens solution before heading out on a trip, or to pick up rewetting drops because I'm dealing with dry contacts while away from home. This compact case makes cleaning and caring for contacts on the go much easier—it comes with an easy-to-fill reusable dropper that gives me a long weekend's worth of solution, a contact case, and has a mirror to help get them in and out. (I don't like to fly in contacts, so this is particularly handy if I forget to switch to my glasses before leaving home.) It weighs next to nothing, and will fit in all but my smallest handbags, so I've been keeping it on me regularly, not just when traveling. — Madison Flager, senior commerce editor

Pros : It comes with a tiny pair of tweezers to make removing contacts from the case less messy. Cons : The contact solution holder isn't large enough for weeklong trips.

travel size containers for skincare

I admit I've also been guilty of buying mini versions of my favorite contact solution. As much as I love reusable toiletry bottles for my skincare and hair products, I've never had anything that felt right for the consistency of my contact solution. I wear daily lenses, meaning I don't need a whole lot of solution with me when I travel, so it is a little frustrating to carry around a bottle that takes up precious space in my Dopp kit. Lately, I've been carrying about the Cauyuan eye glass case which comes with a super small dropper for contact solution. This refillable dropper holds just enough contact solution for weekend trips and shorter vacations and takes up such little space (I've even found myself tossing it in my handbag in case my eyes get a little dry.) This durable case keeps all of my eye care essentials together and protected, with a separate compartment for eye glasses, and another that holds the dropper, tweezers, a contact case, and a mirror.

Pros : All of my eyewear essentials are now in once place and stay organized; the dropper is small enough to fit in a tiny purse. Cons : The compartment for your eye glasses is on the small size—if you have thick or bulky frames, they might not fit.

travel size containers for skincare

I've never found a reusable spray bottle for my perfume that I've liked, so I've always relied on buying miniature versions of each of my favorite fragrances. But let's be real—those travel-size perfume bottles are expensive! They're often made of glass, too, making them vulnerable to breaking in your luggage. Enter the Vonovo mini refillable perfume bottles: Each of these holds 0.2 ounces of your favorite scent, more than enough for a long vacation. This set comes with five spray bottles, so you can bring along any of your favorites—or all of them. And they are so easy to use—simply pull off the top of your full-size perfume, press the bottom of the mini bottle on top of it, and keep clicking until its refilled. Each of the bottles have a clear vial inside so you can see how much product you have left. My favorite part: These are so tiny—think the size of a lipstick— meaning I can even bring them with me on a date night when I'm only carrying a small purse .

Pros : Easy to refill and compact enough to fit in even the tiniest of travel bags Cons : These spray bottles wont match the look of your full-size perfume and don't have labels, so you'll have to remember based on the color of the mini bottle you choose. Also, these can be refilled with the same perfume, but I wouldn't recommend reusing them with another scent.

travel size containers for skincare

For those with a more rigid skincare or haircare routine, this 16-pack lets you bring along every last product you want—and it all fits into one reusable case. The set comes with four silicone bottles, four jars, two spray bottles, two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush. The variety means you can pack everything from soap and shampoo to serums and sprays in here, and the cleaning brush makes the bottles easy to clean and re-use. I like this set best for packing my more expensive skincare serums and creams in the small jars that have a scooper to use.

Pros : A variety of types of containers

Cons : The toiletry case the bottles come in isn't the best quality.

travel size containers for skincare

The Kitsch Ultimate travel set includes leakproof holders that are compact and lightweight enough to pack in a purse or tote bag . In addition to three flat pouches, this set also comes with two pump bottles, two mini jars, one mini funnel, one mini spatula, and one mini pipette. This set is best for a longer trip—say, a European vacation or a cross-country road trip —as you can store a lot more shampoo, conditioner, and lotions in the pouches without going over any TSA limits (plus, they'll get lighter as you use them).

Pros : The flat pouches are easy to pack and take up less room in a Dopp kit than bulkier bottles.

Cons : The pouches are a little bit harder to refill than bottles with a wide opening.

travel size containers for skincare

If you're packing toiletries for your entire family , this 21-pack of travel bottles has you covered. This package comes with four silicone bottles, four cream jars, four toothbrush covers, two spray bottles, two pump bottles, two trowels, a funnel, and labels to keep everything straight. Whether it's a trip to Disney World or multi-generational cruise , this set makes packing for the whole family easy.

Pros : These come with toothbrush covers–a nice travel accessory that none of the other options on our list offers.

Cons : Not ideal for weekend trips or light packers.

The pen is totally erasable and wipes off with just a damp tissue, so you can relabel your containers as often as you need. A handy spatula is also included, which can help you dispense your creams and makes it easy to fill the containers.

Henscoqi Travel Bottles

The recyclable bottles – under 5 inches high – each have a fine spray top, which can be really useful for dispensing things like a makeup remover.

Another great use would be for hand sanitizer, especially as these bottles are small and slim enough to slip easily into your pocket!

An anti-dust cover clips securely on the top, protecting the nozzle from clogging and ensuring the contents are not accidentally sprayed when packed in your bag.

Made of plastic, these containers are lightweight enough for travel, but they are designed to be durable and resistant to cracks or dents.

Bariho Silico Bottles

In other words, pretty much everything you will need for your trip! Approved by the TSA for use in your carry-on luggage, the soft bottles are made from 100% BPA-free food-grade silicone which is incredibly resistant to breakage and sustainable material.

Because they are soft, they are squeezable – just what you need for items like lotions and shampoo!

The attractive purple and white containers all fit neatly into their zip-up PVC travel bag and feature a triple-layered structure and self-sealing valve.

This stops them from leaking and ensures that the rest of your luggage is protected. This set is great value for money as the differently sized containers make it suitable for a wider range of cosmetic products.

Qianying Travel Containers

Approved by the TSA for packing in your carry-on luggage, the 6 travel cosmetic bottles included in this set are made of soft, squeezable silicone, each in a different attractive color with a self-colored pattern.

That said, yes – they respect the 100 ml rule.

The bottles are around 4.5 inches high, with a cross return valve that controls the flow of liquid and makes them easy to use.

They also have a triple layer design, which means they seal tightly and won’t leak their contents, whilst the wide-mouth opening makes them easy to clean and refill.

In addition to the bottles, you also get 3 small travel containers for cosmetics like powders or creams, with tightly fitting lids.

Each bottle has a capacity of  2.4 oz (70 ml) whilst the smaller jars hold 20 ml, which should be enough to meet all your makeup storage needs for your trip!

Ammax Travel Bottles

travel size containers for skincare

There are four bottles in the pack, each with a capacity of 3 oz, and their distinctive oval design prevents liquids from getting stuck in the corners.

The BPA-free silicone doesn’t just look good – it is lovely and soft which means that it’s easy to squeeze and you can get out every drop of liquid.

There is a no-drip cross valve inside the cap which ensures the bottles will not leak and also controls the flow of liquid, so you don’t get out more than you need.

Each travel bottle has a wide mouth opening. This makes them easy to fill, even with thicker liquids like creams, and also means that you can fit a brush inside to clean them properly.

These travel-size cosmetic containers come with a clear zippered toiletry bag which is convenient for packing.

POLUENTAT Travel Bottles

travel size containers for skincare

This travel skincare container set has loads of handy little items, including 6 soft, silicone bottles in different sizes, 2 spray bottles (ideal for perfume!), 3 small travel pots for creams and skincare products, and 2 toothbrush covers.

But that’s not all – you also get a little ‘trowel’ to help you fill the containers, a funnel for pouring in liquids, a handy brush, and a frosted bag to keep it all in!

This set has a unique and very useful labeling system – you just twist off the lid then use the rotating ring to display a ‘tag’ to help you identify what’s inside.

There are 6 different options to choose from, including ‘lotion’, ‘soap’ and ‘shampoo’.

All bottles are triple-layered for security so you can be confident they won’t leak and their soft, silicone construction makes them durable and resistant to damage.

Final Thoughts On The Best Travel Containers For Creams

Finding the right travel cosmetic containers when you go on a trip is essential.

All these products will help you travel with confidence, knowing that your toiletries are secure, your luggage is well protected and you’ll have all your essential beauty items to hand when needed.

The 25 Best Travel-Size Beauty Products on Amazon to Pack for Your Next Getaway

TSA-friendly favorites that fit nicely in your carry-on

It may seem easy enough to throw your most-used items into a toiletry bag and call it a day, but TSA requires anyone traveling by plane to ensure liquids, gels, and aerosols are no more than 3.4 ounces each in your carry-on. (That list encompasses cleansers, facial mists, shampoos, foundations, and more.) And in addition to pint-size liquids, packing a bevy of mini beauty tools for your on-the-go routine makes it easy to stay glam while you’re away from home.

Surrendering your favorite moisturizer at airport security is no way to begin a vacation. That’s where refillable toiletry bottles come in — not only are they under the TSA-approved 3.5 ounces, they’re leakproof with secure lids you can use over and over again. Of course, not all toiletry bottles are created equal, and if you’ve ever had a shampoo explosion in your carry-on thanks to a flimsy lid, you might be cautious. ( There are always minis , but when you already own full-size versions of your toiletries, that added cost feels redundant.) To find the best toiletry bottles for every kind of traveler, I spoke to frequent fliers and travel experts about the toiletry bottles that won’t lead to travel disasters, then tested out those recommendations for myself alongside my fellow Strategist staffers. While you’re here, we’ve also written guides to the best carry-on luggage and men’s Dopp kits .

What we’re looking for

Number of bottles.

I’ve made a clear note beneath each set of toiletry bottles, as the number of bottles included is different for each product on this list. The higher the number of bottles in a kit means more storage space but also a higher variety of bottle types, too. For example, if you’re someone with a complex skin-care routine , you’ll want a bigger kit with tubs, pump-top bottles, and classic bottles to house all your lotions and sprays. If you’re someone who packs lighter, a smaller kit should be more than enough.

Accessories

They’re designed to keep things clean , but sometimes decanting your products into toiletry bottles can get pretty messy. Luckily, lots of kits come with accessories to make the whole process a little simpler, from funnels for divvying up liquids to spatulas for scooping face cream from one bottle to another (and brushes for keeping your bottles clean). To keep things organized, some kits also come with a transparent bag to keep all of your bottles in one place (and save you from having to squeeze them into a flimsy plastic bag at security).

Maximum capacity

The size of the bottle you’ll want will depend on what you plan to decant into it and how long you’ll be traveling. I’ve included the maximum fluid capacity of each bottle (or of the biggest bottle in each set) so you know how big you can go.

Best toiletry bottles overall

Teapile Travel-Bottle Set

Number of bottles : 17 | Accessories: Funnel, spatula, cleaning brush, plastic bag | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

This comprehensive travel-bottle set includes two 3-ounce silicone bottles, two 2-ounce silicone bottles, two 25-millimeter pump-top bottles, four plastic tubs, two toothbrush covers, a funnel, two spatulas, and a cleaning brush , all inside a transparent plastic case. My fellow Strategist writer Rachael Griffiths has taken it on 11 flights so far with great success. Inside the larger bottles, she’ll squeeze shampoo and conditioner ; cleanser and moisturizer goes inside the smaller bottles. The tubs are for a little smidgen of eye cream , she says, “and I’ll also pour some setting spray into the spray-pump bottles if I’m planning a big night out.” The caps screw on tight and have been consistently leak-free, and she likes how the bottles are made of a clear plastic, so you can easily see how much product you’ve gone through on your trip (and how much you’ve got left to last you). The set also comes recommended by frequent travelers like Simify director Mac Steer and River North Communication CEO Kelly Ferraro, who made the investment after tragically surrendering several luxury face creams to security and hasn’t looked back.

Best (less expensive) toiletry bottles

Kitsch Ultimate Travel 11-Piece Set

Number of bottles: 11 | Accessories: Funnel, stopper, spatula | Maximum capacity: 3.04 ounces

I like the price point of these bottles (the 11-piece kit is regularly on sale for less than $10) and that they’re dishwasher-safe. Brittany Allyn, the blogger behind Thirty Waves who documents her travels on TikTok, was initially drawn to them for aesthetic reasons but has found that they’re also “versatile for all my products: shampoo, conditioner, favorite hair product, serum, spray, and three small containers for my other skin-care products.” The kit comes with a mix of pouches, traditional bottles, and capsule-esque mini-jars as well as a funnel, spatula, and pipette to help you fill them up.

Best classic toiletry bottles

Sea to Summit Traveling Light TPU Clear Zip Pouch With Bottles

Number of bottles: Six | Accessories: Plastic bag | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

I am consistently impressed by Sea to Summit’s travel and outdoor products , which are typically more durable and cleverly designed than those of competing brands. So I wasn’t surprised when Andres Zuleta, the founder of Boutique Japan , recommended them. “I used to use the ones you can get anywhere, at Duane Reade or Target — like, the ones that are colorful and kind of squishy and have a flip-top lid,” Zuleta says. “Honestly, I had problems with those every time. One of them would always leak.” He hasn’t experienced any of that with Sea to Summit bottles. Zuleta describes them as mini Nalgene water bottles because of their tough exterior. “They are airtight,” he adds. “I’ve been using them for two years now and never had an issue.” The pack comes with three three-ounce bottles and three 1.3-ounce bottles, which Zuleta says is plenty. He fills his with hand sanitizer , lotion , jojoba oil, and shower gel and says he always comes home with his bottles at least partially full. He’s a fan of the actual bag it comes with, too. Instead of plastic, it’s made from TPU, a durable, abrasion-resistant material that is a reusable alternative to single-use plastic bags, according to the brand. It’s roomy enough that, in addition to the bottles, Zuleta can fit in some extras, such as his Malin+Goetz deodorant and a travel toothbrush.

Best flat-pack toiletry bottles

Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles — Package of 3

Number of bottles: Three | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: Three ounces

When I asked travel blogger Jessica Ufuoma about good gifts for frequent fliers , she told me about these toiletry bottles from Matador. They’re nylon leakproof packs that can be filled up with all the liquids you’ll need for your trip. Each one holds three ounces, so they’re compliant with TSA requirements. The flat-pack design also makes them more compact than traditional bottles, allowing you to stuff even more into your toiletry bag. In addition to the functionality, Ufuoma likes the look of these pouches. “Their sleek and minimalist designs make for the perfect gift for stylish and savvy travelers,” she says.

Best silicone toiletry bottles

Humangear GoToob+ Large Squeeze Bottle — 3.4 Fluid Ounces — Package of 3

Number of bottles: Three | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 3.4 ounces

Even if you’re not flying, reusable toiletry bottles can come in handy. Emily Mandagie, one-half of the couple behind the outdoors-focused website the Mandagies , says she takes these Humangear squeeze bottles on nearly every overnight adventure and recommends them for backpacking and road trips. These silicone bottles come in 3.4-ounce, 2.5-ounce, and 1.7-ounce sizes, and Mandagie loves how versatile they are. “For example, on road trips we will fill them with things like face wash and dish soap, but on backpacking trips we’ll fill them with sunscreen or even condiments for a meal,” she says. They are FDA food safe, she says, so there’s no worries there, and they are also dishwasher safe, making them easy to clean. One trip’s sriracha container can be another’s shampoo bottle.

Best (less expensive) silicone bottles

Tapbull Portable-Bottle Set

Number of bottles: Six | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 3.04 ounces

Travel blogger Nina Ragusa (known as Where in the World Is Nina? ) has been all over the world with this more affordable silicone set, which she says outperforms Walmart’s own-brand options and is more space efficient, too. “So many other plastic bottles resulted in an explosion of liquid in my toiletry bag,” she says. “They crack and break.” Typically, a harder plastic toiletry bottle will maintain its shape, making it always the same size. “These bottles, though, smoosh down as you use them, eventually getting almost flat,” saving you space in your bag as your trip progresses. “And they quite simply won’t break.”

Best modular travel containers

Cadence — The Capsule

Number of bottles: Sold individually or in sets of 6 and 12 | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 0.56 ounces

Cadence makes stylish, multiuse magnetic containers from ocean-bound plastic. Sold individually, they’re designed to cling to each other, creating what the company calls a “honeycomb.” The lids, each of which gets its own custom label, are also magnetic, which makes them more airtight. I was skeptical about these because of their high price point, but I’m sold after taking them on a couple of international trips last year. First of all, it is way easier to decant product into tubs as opposed to squeezable bottles — no more last-minute messing around with funnels before a flight. The capsules are also incredibly solid in their construction, to the extent that I feel comfortable tossing them into my backpack or suitcase wherever they fit, rather than storing them a separate leakproof toiletry bag that takes up valuable space. Briona Lamback, the founder of Buoyant, adds that they’re small but mighty: “I usually get enough cleanser and moisturizer for a sixish-day trip in each.”

Best (less expensive) modular travel containers

Muji Polyethylene Petite Tube

Number of bottles: Sold individually | Accessories: None | Maximum capacity: 2.2 ounces (large petite tube), 1 ounce (large cream container)

If you want to build your own set of refillable toiletry bottles on a budget and can live without cute colors and magnets, I’m also a fan of Muji’s simple plastic travel containers and have used them on many trips. While I’d probably store them in a waterproof toiletry bag just to be safe, I’ve never had leakage issues with these, and there are a number of size options for different lengths of trips. Just note that they don’t come with any accessories for decanting, which can make transferring any particularly gloopy shampoos and conditioners a bit tricky.

Avoid spills and score style points with these liquid containers

TripSavvy / Leticia Almeida

There’s nothing worse than arriving excitedly at your destination to find that your toiletries have spilled all over your suitcase. Or to be the person who holds up the line at security while the TSA agents discard your oversized liquids. Both of these scenarios are easily avoided by investing in a set of appropriately sized, 100 percent leakproof travel toiletry bottles. There are lots of options out there in terms of bottle quantity, size, and design, with the right one for you depending on factors such as how long you’ll be traveling and the complexity of your beauty routine.

To help you narrow down the choices, our team of travel experts put 14 toiletry bottle sets to the test. Each one was scored for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value, with average scores used to determine the winners of categories ranging from “best budget” to “most durable.”

Final Verdict

How we tested.

  • What to Look For

Why Trust TripSavvy

Best overall, liquisnugs premium leak-proof silicone travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Performance 5 /5

Very secure, with no leaks during testing

Stick to vertical surfaces

Easy to stay organized

Lack of variety

The LiquiSnugs Premium Silicone Travel Bottles offer flawless performance at a price so reasonable our tester was shocked by it. The set includes two 2-ounce bottles and two 3-ounce bottles, both of which adhere to TSA carry-on regulations. We liked the flexibility afforded by the two different sizes since there are always products we need more and less of on vacation. We were able to easily fit all four in a quart-sized Ziploc bag simultaneously without placing pressure on any of them. All bottles are made of flexible, food-grade, BPA-free silicone, making them easy to pack and dispense.

With a dripless valve and bottleneck design, the bottles are advertised as 100 percent leakproof—a claim we can support, with no spillages even after being dropped and thrown around repeatedly during testing. We liked that the bottles’ wide mouths made them simple to fill, empty, and clean as needed. Other highlights include the suction pad on the back of each bottle (great for attaching them to the bathroom wall) and the changeable labels. Options for the latter include shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, soap, and lotion, enabling you to switch up the uses on each trip.

Best Budget

Vitog travel bottles kit.

  • Ease of Use 4 /5
  • Performance 4.5 /5

Multiple dispensing methods

Comes with several functional extras

Good value for money

Capacity could be larger

Retailing for half the price of our already affordable overall winner, the Vitog Travel Bottles Kit is a no-brainer for budget-conscious buyers. It includes six 1.4-ounce bottles and two 0.4-ounce bottles. The larger ones consist of two pump bottles with a removable clip to prevent accidental deployment, two spray bottles, and two flip-cap bottles. The smaller ones are miniature cream jars. All eight are made from clear PET plastic, which we found durable yet lightweight enough for travel. We also liked that we could easily see how much product was left.

We appreciated the thoughtful inclusion of a pipette, a funnel, and a spatula to help with decanting products from their original containers. They made the bottles relatively easy to fill, although we did experience some spillage when decanting thick body lotion. Nevertheless, there was no leaking or visible wear and tear after our intensive testing process. The set also includes a sheet of labels and a clear plastic toiletry bag. The only real drawback? None of the bottles are particularly big, making this option suitable for short trips only.

Cadence The Originals Set

  • Design 4.5 /5
  • Performance 4 /5

Unique design

Performed well throughout testing

Customizable

Very expensive

Limited capacity

The Originals from Cadence are small, hexagonal capsules with screw-top lids that connect magnetically together in any shape or configuration you like. Aesthetics are at the forefront of this brand, as you can choose different colors for each capsule as well as printed, switchable, magnetic labels. In fact, they look so cute that you could even buy toiletries in bulk and decant them into these capsules for use at home. Sustainable practices like these are reinforced by the fact that the capsules are made from 20 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic.

We love that the capsules’ wide mouths and rounded interiors make them effortless to fill, use, and clean. They’re also 100 percent leakproof, waterproof, and airtight, as proven by our testing process. We found them incredibly durable and can’t imagine a scenario that would result in them being punctured or crushed. They are small (each one carries just 0.56 ounces), which could be a drawback. However, a capacity calculator on the brand website suggests you can carry approximately a week’s worth of products, depending on how regularly you use each one.

Most Durable

Mrsdry travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 3.5 /5
  • Design 4 /5

Soft yet rugged silicone construction

Effective leakproofing

User friendly

No diversity in size or design

If your primary concern when packing liquids in your hand luggage is leaking, you’ll love the Mrsdry Travel Bottles Set. It consists of four 3-ounce bottles, each made of thick silicone that feels ultra-durable, and they stood up perfectly to our squeeze and drop tests. We were particularly impressed with the bottles’ no-drip valves, which successfully prevented leaks. All four bottles use the same shape and dispensing method—a pro for those who want lots of capacity for fewer products, and a drawback for those with a more complex personal care routine.

Having said that, we did feel that this set is so reasonably priced, there’s nothing to stop you from buying multiple sets if you have more products to pack. Instead of labels, the bottles come in four separate shades to distinguish between them. We also liked that their wide opening makes them easy to fill, even with thicker liquids and gels. And when it comes to cleaning them, the bendable silicone easily accommodates a bottle brush. All colorways include a transparent carry case.

Best Variety

Morfone 16 pack travel bottles.

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5
  • Quality 4.5 /5

Good array of containers

Burly silicone handles rough treatment

Jar lids are weaker than expected

Multicolored style may not suit everyone

The Morfone Travel Bottles Set caters to travelers with an extensive beauty routine. With 10 containers in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and dispensing methods, you can take a broad range of products in just the right quantities for your time away. Options are as follows: two 1-ounce spray bottles, two 3-ounce squeeze bottles, two 2-ounce squeeze bottles, two 1-ounce jars, and two 0.3-ounce jars. We were impressed by the capacity of the largest bottles, which we felt could easily hold at least four washes’ worth of shampoo and conditioner.

The bottles are made of durable yet flexible food-grade silicone, with wide mouths for easy filling and cleaning. We appreciated the inclusion of two scoopers, a funnel, and a cleaning brush to help with these tasks, as well as a sheet of labels. Most of the containers held up well to our durability tests with no leaks or spills. The only exception was one of the jars, which suffered a broken lid. The set comes in a transparent carry bag and could fit into a quart-sized Ziploc (a TSA requirement) with some skillful maneuvering, although it was tight.

Number of Bottles: 10 | Sizes: 2 0.3-ounce, 4 1-ounce, 2 2-ounce, 2 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone

Best for Larger Capacities

Insfit tsa carry-on approved containers.

Great value for money

Well-designed lids

Choice of cute color palettes

Can be finicky with certain products

The INSFIT set is ideal for those who like to keep things simple with only a handful of essential products, but who also tend to travel for longer and therefore need as much capacity as TSA will allow. It features four identical 3-ounce silicone bottles large enough to hold at least one to two weeks’ worth of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and sunscreen (or similar). The bottles are squeezable, which makes dispensing simple, although we found that thicker lotions and gels were easier to squeeze if the bottle was at least half full.

Other highlights include fully removable caps and wide mouths for mess-free filling and easy cleaning, and three-layered lids that are essentially leakproof. Even during our pressure test, caps remained securely in place, and afterward, the bottles still looked brand new. In fact, we were shocked to find out how affordable this set is given its evident quality. We also liked the stylish, see-through carry bag and the fact that there’s a special place on the caps to stick the included labels so that they adhere properly.

Number of Bottles: 4 | Sizes: 4 3-ounce | Materials: Silicone

Best for Backpacking

Matador flatpak toiletry bottle.

Ideal for reducing heft and bulk

Thoughtful design elements

Proved durable during our testing

Difficult to fill with thicker consistencies

Made of waterproof 30D Cordura ripstop nylon with proprietary welded construction, the Matador FlatPak Toiletry Bottles are by far the most technical option on this list. With their flat-pack design and sturdy quality, they’re designed especially for adventures and expeditions where saving on space and weight is a priority . With a capacity of 3 ounces each, they’re five times lighter and 3.5 times more compact than standard silicone bottles, and pliable enough to fit into tight spaces: the ultimate backpacking companion.

We found them easy to fill with any liquid that was the consistency of shampoo or thinner. Thicker gels and lotions were tricky since the mouth wasn’t as wide as that of standard travel bottles. Still, any mess is easy to clean off the waterproof exterior. They fit easily into a quart-sized Ziploc, and we love the snap hook for attaching to the outside of your backpack for on-the-go use. The loop also features a spot for writing a description of the contents with a permanent marker. As expected, the packs survived all our tests with zero leaks or signs of damage.

Number of Bottles: 3 | Sizes: 3 3-ounce | Materials: 30D Cordura ripstop nylon

Our overall favorite was the LiquiSnugs Premium Travel Bottles set. These bottles stood out for their durable, leakproof silicone construction and thoughtful extras including adjustable labels and individual suction pads. For the most budget-friendly option, choose the small yet sturdily versatile Vitog Travel Bottles Kit .

Upon receiving the bottles, our first step was to examine their overall quality and design and note any unique features. Then, we filled at least three of the bottles in the set: one with lotion, one with micellar water, and one with shampoo. For each one, we noted how easy it was to fill without spilling, how easy it was to clean if spillage did occur, and how appropriate each bottle would be for holding different types of liquid. We also tested how easy it was to open the bottle and dispense the product inside.

Next, we compressed the bottles in our palms to mimic pressure. We shook them, rolled them, squeezed them, and threw them to stimulate rough handling in transit, noting how well they withstood this treatment. Our final test was to put all of the bottles from the set into a quart-sized Ziploc bag, and then inside a toiletry bag. Then, we dropped them from waist height three times, always from different angles, to see whether any breakages or leaks occurred and whether the bottles showed any signs of wear and tear.

Each set was scored on a scale of one to five for ease of use, quality, design, performance, and value. Average scores were used to determine our category winners.

What to Look For in Travel Toiletry Bottles

Durability is key when choosing travel toiletry bottles since containers that are easily punctured or cracked will result in a mess that’s at best inconvenient and at worst potentially expensive or upsetting depending on how much product is wasted and whether any other items in your carry-on are affected. Look for options made out of sturdy hard plastic or thick, flexible silicone, then check user reviews to get an idea of how the construction holds up under real-life travel conditions. If you’re planning an extreme adventure, technical options like the waterproof flat-pack bottles from Matador may be worth the extra expense.

Leakproofness

A bottle doesn’t have to break for leaks to occur—all it takes is a poorly constructed seal or lid. Look for bottles with a triple-layered leakproof cap and jars with a secure screw top. Pump bottles should come with a removable clip that prevents them from being deployed accidentally. Again, user reviews help check how efficient these measures are (it’s easy for a brand to advertise their product as leakproof, even if it’s not). Some brands, like Cadence, actually guarantee the efficacy of their leakproof design. Just in case, we always recommend storing toiletry bottles in a waterproof bag or Ziploc as a second line of defense.

If you plan on packing your toiletry bottles in your carry-on bag, you must make sure that none of them exceed the TSA-approved limit of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Some sets are made up of identical large bottles of around 3 ounces, giving you the maximum allowable capacity for each of your products. However, because all bottles must fit in a single quart-sized Ziploc bag, this limits the number of bottles to around four.

If you have more products to pack, you may prefer a set that divides this capacity between a greater number of smaller bottles and containers—especially if you only require some of your liquids in very small quantities. The length of your trip will also dictate how big you need your bottles to be unless you only plan on using your carry-on liquids as a backup in case the full-size versions in your checked luggage get delayed.

Toiletries can be stored in opaque, translucent, or transparent bottles of any color as long as each individual bottle does not exceed the maximum capacity limit. For carry-on bags, most authorities including TSA set that limit at 3.4 ounces. Liquids can be in their original container or decanted into any container of your choosing (even one that’s labeled incorrectly), as long as these size restrictions are adhered to.

Most airport authorities—including TSA—rule that bottles containing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes cannot exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) if you wish to pack them in your carry-on luggage . In addition, all of these bottles must fit inside a quart-sized Ziploc bag and be screened separately from the rest of your luggage at security. Containers that exceed this limit will not be permitted, even if the volume of the product inside is less than 3.4 ounces (for example, if you have a half-used bottle of conditioner). Note that these restrictions do not apply to checked luggage.

Although toiletry bottles don’t have to be labeled from a legal perspective, many people like to do so to ensure they don’t end up brushing their teeth with expensive moisturizer, or vice versa. Some travel bottles come with waterproof stickers, especially for this purpose, and you can also purchase them separately online. This is a better option than writing on a standard office label by hand since toiletry bottles frequently get wet and ink can run and cause staining or become illegible. Alternatively, a permanent marker applied directly to the bottle could be an option if you’re always going to use the same container for the same product.

20 Best Travel Size Skincare Products

Mini versions of our favorite skincare products help us maintain a solid skincare regimen while being away from home. These are super useful for transport because of the carry-on limits we often struggle with during traveling.

Additionally, mini and travel-sized products are a great way to try a product you’ve had your eye on before you decide whether you want to invest in the full-sized version.

As a skincare blogger, I can’t always afford to buy full-sized versions and test them for the sake of content, so this is something that comes in handy for my particular needs.

Therefore, in this article, I will give you a list of travel-size products you can carry with you in your bag while traveling, going to the beach, sitting at your work desk, or use them to snap cute Instagram photos.

Best Travel-Size Micellar Waters

Micellar water is an amazing product for everyone that doesn’t enjoy using oil cleansers or balms as a first cleanse.

I love using micellar water as a first cleanse because I tend to apply light makeup throughout the day so I find them doing an amazing job in removing my makeup and sunscreen and prepping my skin for the second cleanse.

Here are my favorite travel-sized micellar waters I always carry with me while traveling.

Best for super-sensitive skins, you can’t go wrong with this micellar water by Bioderma. Even though I have oily skin, I tend to gravitate towards this one as it does a great job of removing my makeup and prepping my skin for my second cleanse.

This one is more suitable for oily skin types and I tend to use it when I run out of my Sensibio. It also does a great job of removing my makeup, but it’s not the one I tend to gravitate most towards.

The blue micellar water by Bioderma was my skin savior back when I was struggling with acne breakouts and severely dehydrated skin. I loved it so much, in fact, that it made me try the entire Hydrabio range. It’s excellent for dry and dehydrated skin types.

Best Travel-Size Cleansers

Best Travel-Size Cleansers

Wherever you are in the world, make sure to always thoroughly cleanse your face before going to bed and get rid of all that daily grime, dust, and pollution instead of taking it to bed with you.

Here are my top cleanser picks in cute travel sizes.

The best possible cleanser you could go for if you have active acne you are trying to banish. It has a gentle and refreshing gel texture and it also contains a small percentage of salicylic acid which is enough not to irritate the skin but clear out congested pores.

I actually have the full-sized version of this cleanser and I enjoy using it daily. It has a foaming texture, isn’t too harsh or stripping and my oily skin seems to enjoy it. Luckily, it also comes in a travel-sized version so, if you’ve been eyeing it for a while, you should give it a try.

This one has quite an interesting texture that turns from gel to cream once you add a little bit of water to it.

It’s a very gentle cleanser, doesn’t leave the skin feeling stripped and tight, and although it’s more intended for dry skin types, my oily-dehydrated skin tends to enjoy it on some days.

Best Travel-Size Face Masks

Best Travel-Size Face Masks

Let’s get one thing straight: I am not someone who enjoys applying masks for their benefits because the benefits masks offer are quite minimal for several reasons.

First, active ingredients need time to act on the skin, so using a mask for 10-15 minutes is really pointless as this won’t do anything for you besides give you short-term hydration.

Second, if I am not going to be getting the benefits from it, I’d rather invest my money in something that will give me long-term benefits, so using masks is kind of a waste of money for me.

But, every once in a while, I enjoy applying an overnight mask and indulging in that extra morning glow I enjoy seeing in the mirror. So here are my two favorite overnight masks that also come in a travel-sized package.

I know that everyone already raved about this, so there’s nothing new to see here. I like this mask cause it’s lightweight and hydrating, my oily skin doesn’t get extremely greasy but I still get to enjoy that healthy morning glow it gives me.

Here’s another good mask, but I’m sad to say that this one isn’t the right one for me.

I picked it up because it contains Polyhydroxy acids that are even gentler than Alpha hydroxy acids and work to gently buff away the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin while you sleep.

I would strongly recommend this for someone with dry skin because it has some great nourishing ingredients, but oily skin types should definitely stay away from it.

Best Travel-Size Face Mists

Best Travel-Size Face Mists

Face mists are something I love and incorporate in my skincare routine no matter the time of the year. I like to use face mists in between steps so, for example, I use a cleanser then I mist, I apply a serum and wait until it dries then I mist before applying a moisturizer, and so on.

I find that products absorb much better when the skin is damp and I also get a better payoff from products because, when my skin is damp, I tend to use a lot less product as the wetness allows them to spread easier across my face and neck.

Here are two of my all-time favorite mists I never leave at home while traveling:

Since I started buying this, my husband has been doing my head in for paying money to spray plain water on my face, but hey, I find that it works for me and I just enjoy the feeling of spraying plain water on my face, so what the hell?

This is something I don’t usually recommend for my clients because I typically tend to work with people that have sensitive, acneic skin, and a damaged skin barrier that needs fixing.

It has a strong scent of rose and a bunch of flower extracts, so if that’s something you are sensitive to, it may be best to stay away from it. However, if it doesn’t bother you, feel free to spray away.

Best Travel-Size Exfoliators

Best Travel-Size Exfoliators

Hands down to Paula’s Choice for having the all-time best exfoliators on the skincare market. I don’t see myself moving away from these anytime soon and I cannot recommend them enough.

Best for oily, acne-prone skin types that struggle with blackheads and breakouts. You cannot go wrong with this, however, make sure to try the mini version before buying the full-size and see if BHA exfoliant is what your skin needs.

Do you want a glowy and hydrated skin? You got it. This exfoliant works amazingly well for dehydrated skin types while addressing other important skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, sun-damage, etc.

Best Travel-Size Serums

Best Travel-Size Serums

Luckily, serums usually come in small packages, so I will just go ahead and recommend my all-time favorite serums you can use daily and take anywhere with you.

I also have the full-size version of this serum and I love it. This is just a little something I enjoy carrying around with me whenever I travel and don’t want to bring my entire skincare cabinet.

It is super hydrating and if you have oily skin, I’d much rather recommend you to go with the Omega + Complex serum than the moisturizer with the same name as the moisturizer is significantly thicker and more nourishing than the serum, thus much better for dry skin types.

A great hyaluronic acid serum you can’t go wrong with no matter what skin concern you have.

It works amazingly well with all skin types, however, it knows how to be a little sticky, therefore, make sure to spray a few spritzes of a hydrating mist before applying this serum as it will make it absorb better and you won’t have to deal with the stickiness.

This is my go-to travel product because my skin gets severely dehydrated while I’m on a plane so If I have a long flight ahead of me, I always make sure to have this savior in my bag.

Best Travel-Size Moisturizers

Best Travel-Size Moisturizers

Here are the two moisturizers I’ve been trying out lately, and luckily they both come in cute, travel-sized versions:

I will be writing a full review on this product but, as all of my Paula’s Choice reviews, that one’s gonna be biased as well. I love Paula’s Choice products and I can honestly tell that some of her products saved my dehydrated, acneic skin and gave it a nice and healthy glow.

This moisturizer is super lightweight, you only need a tiny bit of it, and it absorbs quickly into the skin.

I’ve found that whenever I apply a thicker layer of it, it tends to sit on the surface of the skin giving me that greasy layer which I don’t like, so if your skin is on the dry side, something else might be better for you as this one is intended for oily skins.

Yes, I bought this moisturizer because I liked the color of the packaging, so please don’t judge me on that because I ended up liking it. It’s the newest drop by Paula’s Choice that has a smooth gel texture that turns into a cream once applied on the skin.

It’s not giving my oily and acne-prone skin any problems so I am not going to fuss about it and I also think it’s excellent for dry skin types, too.

Best Travel-Size Sunscreens

Best Travel-Size Sunscreens

Sunscreen is something you must do as the last step in your morning routine. I always have sunscreen with me, especially when I travel, and while I always tend to buy full-sized bottles, here are some minis for you to test out if you’re unsure what may be best for you.

Best sunscreen for acne-prone and oily skin types. It has a smooth, slightly matte finish and since it’s made out of chemical sunscreen ingredients , it won’t leave that dreaded white cast on your face after applying it.

Best summer sunscreens for oily skin types. It’s lightweight, invisible once applied to the skin, and it has an SPF of 50. Definitely worth a try.

I didn’t particularly enjoy this sunscreen because it is definitely not intended for oily skin types, however, it has some excellent ingredients that dry skin types might really enjoy.

Luckily I have a husband that has dry skin, so testing different skincare stuff on him always helps me have a perception of who might benefit most from these products.

Thank you so much for this! When I travel my one clear plastic bag of liquids is so full of skincare products that it looks like it might burst. And once I wasn’t allowed through security because they said it was over the limit – and I had to leave some of them behind! As you can imagine, it was pretty bad.. I mean, how do you choose?!?!? Anyway, thanks for the post. I can now restock my travel bag and hopefully avoid another embarrassing (and expensive!) incident at security.

If you need to bring toiletries like soaked cotton rounds or makeup wipes, some TFG readers use these leakproof condiment containers which have a wider diameter. A super creative option that works really well!

Use a capsule wardrobe to pack light but create many outfits.

Set of 3/5/10/15/20 Clear Cosmetic Pots

  • How to Use Them: Use them for makeup and beauty products that you won’t need often and to store individual products that you want to take in your purse. (A stack won’t do so well thrown around in your day bag or purse.)
  • When to Use Them: Anytime. These travel containers  can store your bath products on short trips or on longer trips for items you won’t use often.
  • At home: Have you ever used a concealer container with a pump that gives you more than what you need? Stop wasting product. You can decant the liquid or gel into one of these containers so you only get a dab of what you’ll use.
I like using the  5 gram size  for concealer, eye cream, and face scrub while I use the larger  20 gram size  for toothpaste, foundation, or face wash

Stackable travel container

Stackable Pots

This is my ultimate secret for fitting various toiletries into minimal space. Stackable pots will work extremely well for women who use a variety of different beauty products or have an extensive skincare routine.

  • How to Use Them: Use one stack for shampoo/conditioner/body wash and another stack for face moisturizer/body moisturizer/sunblock
  • When to Use Them: Use this strategy for weekend trips and take just what you need or if you have a longer trip and plan on buying products as you go – use the stacks for products that last a long time such as foundation , eye cream, or face moisturizer.
  • At home: Use these travel containers to store jewelry, and crafts, or to consolidate half-empty products and make more room on the shelves.
Available as an individual stack or in various sizes (better value!)

GoToob travel bottle

Cylinder Soft Tubes

I prefer pots to tubes but sometimes you need a little more product or a different type of cap. These are durable but soft containers and are a fabulous choice. They tend to be leakproof and long lasting making them the best travel containers in comparison to hard, plastic bottles. GoToob is the most popular brand and has a convenient 2 fl oz size. Other popular tubes are those from the Dot&Dot store. Or, you can also pick up this 14-pack travel set that has silicone squeeze bottles AND  includes 3 pots and 2 toothbrush covers!

  • How to Use Them: Have several of each container type so you can play Tetris and make the most of the room in your toiletry bag. Use them for runny, thin liquids or for products you’d prefer not to dip your finger into.
  • When to Use Them: On trips of any length based on the products that just aren’t quite right in a pot.
  • At home: Using the same principles as the pots, you can maximize limited storage room in your home by decanting any product – even cooking items too!

Kitsch Toiletry Pouch Set

Flat Toiletry Pouches

Flat pouches are an amazing option, because they can fit a lot, but don’t take up any extra space if you don’t need to fill the container the whole way. They’re slim and flexible yet super secure and leakproof. What’s great about these handy space-saving containers is that the more you use, the smaller they get, so you’ll have more room in your suitcase on the way back!

These Kitsch pouches come in a set that can be bought on their own, or grab the 11-piece set that includes pots, pumps, and a spray bottle! Readers have also highly recommended this YSUOA 12-piece set of clear pouches that come in 30ml, 50ml, and 100ml sizes.

One reader says, “For decanting liquids, I used refillable pouches on my two last trips overseas. They worked well because they pack so flat.”

  • How to Use Them: Use them for liquids that you’ll be using often, like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, as they’ll hold a decent amount.
  • When to Use Them: Anytime, from weekend trips to long-term stays. They can store a great amount and pack slim.
  • At home: Save tons of space in your drawers or cabinet by decanting products from your bulkier bottles into these cute ones!
Take a look at our top ten toiletry bags !

When using your own travel containers, remember these golden rules:

  • Only fill 2/3 of the container in order to avoid compression leaks
  •  Use a piece of saran wrap under the lid for extra leak prevention
  •  Avoid water-like substances such as toner. The thinner the liquid the more likely it is to seep through.

Three more space saving “better than travel size” toiletry ideas:

  • If you’re short on time and are always on the go, Convenience Kits sells one-time use toiletry sets. Buy a set and you’re good to go!
  • These bulk packs are another good idea if you want to make your own one-time use sets.
  •  And when you don’t have any more room for liquids just use some of these liquid-free wipes !

Great article on decanting for B longer trips, best trip n I’ve ever B learned!

Donna T.

I love the idea of using smaller containers for toiletries. My favorites are the chap stick containers and the contact lens cases. The contact lens cases are great because they stay closed and never leak. I’ve actually put clear gel Secret deodorant/antiperspirant in a chap stick container and it was enough for a 10 day trip! I am able to fit all my daily products and make up in my toiletry bag with no issues. I also have a set in my 5th wheel so I am always ready to take off in a moments notice! Thanks for all the great ideas and links!

Carol Morris

I never thought about using these small pots for use at home, but that has now changed especially for tossing in my purse when I’m short of time. Thanks!

Alison

I love the idea of decanting products into the small pots. I was having trouble fitting everything in my 3-1-1 bag. After reading this post I ordered some different size pots to use for my facial moisturizer, hair styling cream, cream blush etc. it’s amazing how much space was saved by using these pots!

Runa

One of the first things I learned from this blog was decanting products into smaller containers for traveling light. It has been a game changer for me and one of my now normal things I do. Thanks for this amazing blog full of tips and tricks!!

Robin Polito

After reading all of these suggestions, I actually purchased contact lens cases from Amazon and packed for my 3 week safari using them. Game changer!!

Rebecca Nunez

The packing list link isn’t opening for me.

Alex

Hi Rebecca, sadly we are having some access issues on the blog and are having problems solving it. 😕

But you can download TFG’s “Toiletry Packing List” right here 💻 : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1993OivQaG9Nk4_Avu8Jzo-EzkIMfTiEM4ZXQ4CoKdGM/edit?usp=sharing&urp=gmail_link

To edit this packing list, you have two options: OPTION 1: Go to “File” in the menu above and “Make a Copy”. Open the file you copied and edit that file. OPTION 2: Go to “File” in the menu above and “Download As”. You can then download the file as an spreadsheet and edit directly in excel. To print this packing list, go to “File” in the menu above and “Print”.

Hope this helps. If you have any other problems please email us at [email protected]

I decanted my spf facial moisturizer into a pot and when I was using up the last of it, I noticed the plastic had changed texture. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be worried about continuing to decant into this container?

Hi Lindsey, I have personally never had an issue with this so I am not sure if you should carry on using the same container. I think this has happed to a few of our other readers though. I would highly recommend that you join our TFG facebook group and post your question there about: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls/ Its a fabulous community of helpful female travelers that have the best advice and recommendations to share. ?

Stephanie

Same thing happened to me. I read online in another forum that it’s the sunscreen that reacts with the plastic. I read suggestions that it won’t react with nalgene plastic (I have not tried this personally yet). They sell these in travel size at the Container Store and on Amazon.

Terri B

Regarding packing liquids: I always use plastic wrap under the top. If it’s an “oily or greasy” type product, I use a snack size ziplock bag to hold each. I either use ziplocks in addition to cubes when I pack, or I take an assortment of them so I can easily pack for a day trip or overnight stay without having to take a large bag with me.

Hi Terri, thank you for taking the time to share how you like to pack your liquids with us, your travel hacks are fantastic!! 🙂

sue

as im watching the packing cubes video, where are the socks, undies. bras packed? thanks sue

Hi Sue, have a look at this TFG article for some help: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-use-packing-cubes-8-step-strategy-to-travel-carry-on-only/ Hope you find it useful! 🙂

Cindy Woo

Can anyone recommend small spray bottles that don’t leak for hair products?

Hi Cindy, thank you for your question! Have a look at the recommendation for small containers on this TFG article: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-travel-with-perfume/ Also I have gone ahead and published your question on TFG’s facebook page to get you the best suggestions. Sharon

I am traveling to Ghana in June. This is my first international trip and I will be gone for 3 weeks. I’m anticipating checking 1 bag but want to pack my toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and stuff) but would rather not re-purchase them in Ghana. Any suggestions

Hi Sharon, thank you for your comment! We have a variety of articles featuring different ideas for travel toiletries. Take a look: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/travel-toiletries/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/downsize-toiletries/ Hope this helps. Have a wonderful time 🙂

Connie

Does anyone know where to find lightweight swimsuits without the awful foam cups they all seem to have? I am trying ( rather desperately!) to find a suit that will pack flat! I could also do without all the multiple heavy layers that most suits seem to have these days. HELP please??? Connie

Hi Connie, thank you for your comment! Take a look at this post https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/travel-swimwear/ Hope you find it helpful 🙂

Hi Alex, I finally found those swimsuits at “ Title Nine” last year. I think the weight was about half of those I’d tried before. I ended up with all mix and match…with black or blue bottoms (one is the paddleboard short), and two colorful tops. All work very well!

Stephanie Anderson

Connie, have you looked at Lands End?? Their “tugless tank” swimsuit is just the ticket…comes with or without cups. Otherwise, if you want a simple one-piece suit, check out a sporting goods store for a Speedo or Arena swimsuit. During the warm months, Costco often has a large quantity of these suits for sale.

Ellen

How do you label the containers? From one trip to the next, I do not remember what is in each container. Everything I have tried gets wet and peels off.

Linda

I have a Brother P-Touch labeler. It has several size choices for printing labels. The trick to keep the print from rubbing off is to put a piece of wide packing tape (like scotch tape, but wider) over the label. It works for anything, except items going directly into the shower.

alex

Great idea Linda!

Jacqueline

THANKS!!! That was my question also!!!

Meghan

I use a sharpie on the outside or top of the lid. Once I’m back home, I wipe it off with some rubbing alcohol.

Diane

I’m a nurse, and I use the white paper tape meant for wound dressing. It’s a great all-purpose tape for travel. You can write on it with a sharpie, and still read the words even after it has been in the shower. The tape is easy to remove when you are done. I normally keep a sharpie and a roll of paper tape in my kit instead of duct tape. Check your Dollar Store for paper tape in the medical section.

Connie Qualey

Hi, I usually use the P-touch since you can make the letters very small. I also leave a bit of extra tape on each end so the ends overlap on round bottles and pots. Hope this helps…. Connie

Jennifer

Loved the tip on stackable and individual pots! I ordered them through the link – but got the ones with colored lids – pink and purple, woo hoo!

Great idea! Love using different colors 🙂

Joanna

This is sort of a random question, but have you ever successfully packed coconut oil without having it leak and get your other toiletry bottles all greasy? If so, what containers have you used? I only need a very small container for it – it’s my face moisturizer and I use only a tiny amount every day. I’ve tried small pots, and I’m not sure what brand they are as I got them as a gift a long time ago, but they have leaked every time no matter how tightly I screw on the lid. Recently, I tried using a plastic travel bottle – the type you would normally use for shampoo – and just unscrewing the lid to dip my finger in… it only leaked a little, but it’s way too large, and it’s also not exactly convenient to have to try to stick your finger into one of those bottles when the oil is solid, haha.

Any thoughts on pots or other small containers that would be easy to access but leak-proof even when the oil melts?

Hi Joanna, I use the small pots featured in this post to travel with coconut oil. However, I have the cold pressed kind that’s in solid form not liquid. A tip is to place saran wrap between the pot and the lid – it keeps liquids from leaking 😉

Gin

get it as unrefined as possible and just freeze it in a gootube use the saran wrap trick. By the time it melts you will most likely be at the hotel if you pack it right. I made it on a 16 hour flight in a hot September (From Atlanta) this way. It was 75% solid when I used it the next morning, no leaks.

I have a few empty half-ounce bottles which originally held hand sanitizer. They have a secure top, and are tiny. If you were to warm the oil slightly, it would melt enough to decant into the container. Coconut oil is liquid at body temperature. If the oil is solid, you could melt it by running water from the hot tap over the bottle. I normallly use a one-ounce Nalgene bottle from the mountain supply store. I always use a piece of plastic bag or Saran under my caps for flying.

Kimberly

I use screw top contact lens cases for my eye and face creams, foundation, concealer, and any other “liquid” makeup item. They are small, typically won’t leak, and very packable. I have been doing this for years

Great idea Kimberly!

Kimberly, Ditto here! I mostly use tinted gel type make up, so one lens container has two colors of gel blush with the other carrying two shades of face gel. A little of this stuff goes a long way if ( as I do) applied with water and moisturizer at the same time. No leakes at all! For the rest I save every tiny bottle of eye drops etc. for lotions, shampoo and conditioner.

Lisa Kathleen

The GoToobs are terrible, actually. 🙁 They leaked from about the third time I used them, but I kept giving them another chance since I haven’t had time to find other containers. This time I arrived at my destination with the contents of all three containers everywhere. I’ve lost a huge quantity of product and had to clean up progressively larger messes.

oh no that’s too bad. the best way to avoid spills is to only fill any bottle 3/4 and add a piece of saran wrap in between the lid and the bottle. see if that helps out 🙂

Miss Downtown NYC

I use 3 oz. containers from U.S. Plastics. Inexpensive, commercial grade, wide mouth/easy to refill.

Travel Fashion Girl

Great tip! Thank you for reading!

Phebe

I love the Go Toobs – after 3 years, the tops were no longer clicking shut tightly. I checked online to see if I could just purchase the tops. Turns out the Go Toob company has a lifetime guarantee for their products, so I emailed them and they sent me a batch of new tops! How amazing is that!!!!

WOW even more of a reason to love them!

A group of different beauty products for traveling.

Ready to hit the skies and get flying to your next destination? Us, too!

Travel is picking up as winter getaways come to an end and spring draws near. But before you throw everything in your carry-on bag and call it a day, it’s important to know about TSA’s approved toiletries guidelines.

First, you are indeed allowed to bring toiletries in your carry-on bag and of course, in your checked luggage .

If you are bringing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams or paste in your carry-on bag, they must all be able to fit in a quart-sized bag, per the official TSA website . Each item must also be in a container that holds 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.

The only way to get around the 3.4-ounce rule is to pack your goods in your checked luggage.

Aside from toiletries, lugging your accessories through the sky, such as your sunglasses and jewelry , can also come with a few stipulations. After all, it’s such a drag when your favorite necklace gets tangled with your adorable bracelet.

But never fear, as we’ve outlined the best travel-size toiletries, skincare, organizers, and more that put your mind (and TSA’s mind) at ease.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

Gladys Parker

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!

Perfect itinerary for spending a week in Moscow! So many places to visit and it looks like you had a wonderful time. I would love to climb that tower. The views I am sure must have been amazing!

I was lucky enough to see the skyline of Moscow from this TV Tower and it is definitely mind-blowing.

OMG I dream to visit Moscow someday! Hope the visa processing would be okay (and become more affordable) so I could pursue my dream trip!

Yup, visa processing is the major downside! Agree! Time and the money consuming process…

Hydration is only the beginning. Our sophisticated moisturizer goes one step further in understanding skin needs. Beyond replenishing water loss and locking moisture into the skin cells, Kleem Organics Advanced 2.5% Retinol Moisturizer boosts collagen production to help firm and smooth fine lines and wrinkle for a radiantly healthy and replumped skin.

The 3 Rs For a Younger Looking Skin:

- Reduce signs of aging and hyperpigmentation through cell renewal & photo-healing - Restore skin elasticity through deep hydratation & collagen synthesis - Revitalize skin tone through skin nourishment & increased blood circulation

Kleem Organics Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid for Face and Eye - Results in 5 Weeks

Vitamin C enables the synthesis of collagen, an important protein for the maintenance of healthy, young-looking skin.

Vitamin C has strong, anti-oxidative properties that neutralise free radicals and, thus, protect your tissue and cells against UV radiation damage.

Vitamin C assists in slowing the production of melanin, a dark pigment, leading to the reduction of pigment spots.

Vitamin C encourages cell turnover rates and removes old, dead skin cells. In combination with vitamin E, it smooths irregularities in the skin’s surface.
