Legoland in London
One of the best things you can do in London with children is visit the world-famous theme park Legoland in London . It’s a great way to combine kids’ passions for Lego bricks with this thrill-seeking children’s theme park. Legoland in London is so popular it has more than 2 million visitors every year.
The Legoland Theme Park in London is is just on the outskirts of London on Winkfield Road, Windsor, SL4 4AY. Below we will go through the various tickets and transfer options from the city centre.
Adults and children alike will be astounded by the impressive park that is made up of more than 47 million Lego pieces.
Legoland in London: What to expect in this amazing theme park
Legoland in London is a theme park that is famously built with pieces of Lego. You’ll find huge figures and scenes created with thousands of lego bricks. The park is aimed at children aged between 3 and 10 years old. However, there are some rides that you’ll be able to take younger babies on and a few that are suitable for older kids.
One of the most popular attractions in the park is MiniLand – a miniature reconstruction of London (which is really big!) All intricately built from Lego, you can walk through some of the most iconic buildings and places in the city such as Big Ben, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, City Hall, St.Paul´s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Another one of the biggest attractions at the park is the submarine, where you take to the Lego seas to explore the deep sea.
The theme park is full of green spaces and several restaurants. If you wanted to take a picnic with you, there are tables and chairs to eat at. Some of these are reserved for restaurant guests, but you shouldn’t have a problem finding somewhere to have your own picnic. There is also a huge playground with swings and slides where kids can blow off some steam.
Legoland in London: Opening times
Legoland is open from 9.30am – 6pm. The attractions open at 10am.
If you are planning on visiting London in the summer and you are going to spend a couple of days at Legoland, we would advise bringing swimwear for the kids. There is an area in the park with water attractions and fountains that they can run through, and it´s great fun!
If you are planning on visiting Legoland Windsor during the Christmas holidays, kids will be amazed by all the Christmas decorations and festivities. There is a cabin where little ones can meet Santa, perfect for when you are visiting London with children at Christmas.
Beat the queues with Q-Bot
As you can imagine, Legoland theme park is very popular especially at the weekend and during peak seasons when the kids are off school. So, like many theme parks the queues can be quite long during these busy times. But there is a way to save time and beat the queues, with a device called the Q-bot. This means you can book yourself onto a ride at a certain time, without having to physically wait. So you call relax and enjoy the park and a leisurely pace without wasting your time in lines. When it’s your time to go on the attraction, you can make your way straight to the front of the line. There is a charge for this device.

One of the most popular options when you spend a couple of nights in Legoland is to stay in one of the park´s themed hotels. Or you can stay a little further away in a hotel in the town of Windsor.
Legoland Windsor has two themed hotels, The Castle Hotel and the Legoland Windsor Resort Hotel . Both hotels are a child’s paradise with interiors that are all Lego themed and a master builders dream. By staying at these hotels, you can enter the park 30 minutes before the doors open to the public and enjoy the park before everyone else arrives. Both hotels have restaurants and bars and there is even an indoor pool. Breakfast is included in the price and you have the peace of mind that you can leave your luggage at reception if you arrive before the check-in time or if you need to check-out but still want to enjoy the park on the last day. Legoland hotels are only available to book on their official website and they usually have an offer where you can get free entry to the park for the 2 nd day for free if you stay at one of the hotels.
Legoland Windsor Resort Hotel
The Legoland Windsor Resort Hotel has a dragon at the entrance that welcomes you by blowing smoke through its nose at you. In the reception you will also be greeted by many lego characters. The adventure starts in the rooms, where the kids have to look for the treasure that is hidden somewhere in the room, by searching for clues to unlock a box where the hidden treasure awaits.
⇒ More information about Legoland Windsor Resort Hotel
Legoland Castle Hotel
The Castle Hotel is an impressive Lego castle where the rooms are awaiting little knights in amour. There is also a treasure hunt that little ones will need to work out in order to find their gifts. Each room also has an Xbox to keep them happy after a long day at the park.

LEGOLAND ® Windsor - how to get to there from London
Your guide to legoland ® by car, public transport or private hiring of bus for stopover.
The main choices for visiting Legoland Windsor are train from London Paddington or Waterloo, (fast option, more expensive), followed by public transport via bus from Windsor, or the Greenline bus running from Victoria directly to Legoland.
Your route could depend on whether you are staying overnight in or around Windsor, and whether you wish to check in to your hotel first.
If you wish to go to your nearby hotel in Windsor, the easiest way is to catch either of the trains listed below to Windsor, and once checked in, take the shuttle bus that takes you from the railway stations and Windsor Castle directly to Legoland.
Transport choices Green Line bus from London Local buses Heathrow - Windsor London to Windsor Riverside train Map public transport London to Windsor Private transfers Private transfer enquiry
Main transport options to Legoland Windsor
Rail from london.
- London Paddington to Windsor & Eton Central, via Slough on the First Great Western, is the fastest route (30 minutes).
- London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside on South West Trains (less than an hour)
Coach from London
- Green Line operates the frequent (hourly) 702 service 7-days a week from Victoria. The bus is slower and cheaper than the train, passing many hotels in the Kensington area on the way. Allow an hour and a half to get to LEGOLAND from Kensington.
- From London, Golden Tours operates a daily service to the park, with a courtesy collection from over 50 London hotels.
Bus from Windsor
- By public transport there is a LEGOLAND bus that shuttles during opening hours between LEGOLAND and the two Windsor railway stations and Windsor Castle. This shuttle service is operated by the local bus company, not LEGOLAND and there is a charge.
Bus from Heathrow
- Windsor is also close to Heathrow Airport and three local bus routes go frequently between Heathrow's Terminal 5 and Windsor or Eton.
Note: You cannot use London transport passes like Oyster and Travelcard to Windsor. However, the London Pass has a special addition to its Travelcard that allows you to use the train to Windsor from London.
Windsor & Legoland Green Line bus from London
Although most independent visitors to Windsor from London will take one of the two train lines from London to Windsor, road based bus is an option. The service may be of particular interest to those with a hotel in the Victoria or Kensington High Street area through which the bus passes.
The Green Line Bus starts at London Victoria and makes its way out of London along the M4 motorway passing Heathrow Airport, but not stopping there. The Green Line Bus terminates well beyond Windsor, most buses out of London will be signed to Bracknell.
The only bus to go direct from central London to Legoland
After making a stop at Windsor, the Green Line Bus continues its journey to Legoland just a few miles outside Windsor. This is the only direct transport from central London to Legoland itself.
Terminus for Green Line buses in London
Note: The terminus at Victoria is at the Green Line Bus Station, not the bus station in front of the railway station for the red London buses. The Green Line Coach Station is 5 minutes' walk down Buckingham Palace Road that runs besides Victoria Rail Station.
Cheap fares
Since most passengers will be leaving in the morning for Legoland, this is their premium time and the fares are more expensive (but still represent good value) accordingly. Fares after 12pm are considerably cheaper.
For families a Group Day Return is available, for either two adults and two children or one adult and three children.
Stop at Windsor on return
If you have a return ticket to Legoland, you can also stop off at Windsor on the way back, if you have time.
Green Line bus service - timetables & fares
Local buses between Heathrow & Windsor via Runnymede
The buses going direct to Windsor from Heathrow start at Terminal 5 on the western side of Heathrow, the closest terminal to Windsor.
The buses also pass a few Heathrow Hotels on the way so you can see Windsor as part of a stopover at Heathrow. Most Heathrow hotels have a Hoppa Bus to Terminal 5 running frequently through the day and if your hotel is on the Bath Road there are free public buses. The Piccadilly Line of the London Underground terminates at Terminal 5 as does the Heathrow Express train from London's Paddington Station.
You can use the Heathrow Express free between Terminals 2 and 3 to Terminal 5 and there are free buses between Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 too.
There are luggage storage facilities in each of the terminals at Heathrow, but they are not cheap.
The 71 and 77 buses stop right outside Windsor Castle, but they do not terminate there. The 71 bus although taking slightly longer takes a more scenic route and approaches Windsor from the south stopping in Old Windsor. You can use the 71 bus to visit Runnymede , where the signing of the Magna Carta took place and the Queen's Farm shop. For the Magna Carta get off at the Bells of Ouzely pub at the south end of Old Windsor.
London Waterloo to Windsor Riverside train
South West Trains run the alternative train service from London Waterloo that terminates at Windsor Riverside Station. If you are staying in the County Hall or Charing Cross, Trafalgar Square area you may find this more convenient, Waterloo Station being very walkable from these hotel areas.
You can also join the train at Clapham Junction rail station served by trains from Victoria and Vauxhall and Richmond Underground Stations.
The Windsor Riverside station itself is just a short 5 minute walk up a slight gradient to Windsor Castle and is by the bridge across to Eton.
You can buy a combined ticket that saves you money on entrance to Windsor Castle from South West Trains. You do not have to travel from just Waterloo either. Just add the combined ticket price of Windsor Castle admission to the cost of your rail ticket to Windsor & Eton Riverside or Windsor & Eton Central. You can make further savings by buying off-peak and family fares.

Do you have to transfer for these trains? How far is it from the train station to legoland, and are taxi's readily available
Legoland is about 2 miles from the train stations and it's an easy journey by bus. There are taxis in Windsor but they may not wait outside the stations so it would probably be easier (and definately cheaper) to take the bus.

Everything you need to know before you go to London

Make the most of your trip to London with these expert tips © Martin-DM / Getty Images
Even though I was born and raised in London, I’ve been caught out without a brolly (umbrella) in the rain countless times. I’ve felt the scorn of others when not noticing there’s a queue, and I’ve made the costly error of driving into the city. But as a local, I’ve made these mistakes so you don’t have to; I hope my experience and top tips help inspire a smooth and memorable trip to the UK capital.
1. Skip the car
London ’s roads are small, its traffic is chaotic, and there’s hardly anywhere to park. Plus, you’ll be charged for driving your car in to the center of London – the congestion charge is £15 a day, while the separate ULEZ charge starts from £12.50 and only certain energy efficient or electric cars are exempt. The best way to get around is on public transport. Use the Tube, hop on a bus, or rent a Santander bike if in the center of the city; cycle maps, highlighting designated paths for bikes, can be downloaded online.a
2. Know your Tube etiquette
One easy way to annoy commuters is to not follow these very easy rules when traveling around on London’s Underground. Get your ticket, debit or credit card ready before you reach the ticket barriers so you don’t create a queue. Stand on the right when using escalators so passengers wanting to walk can pass. Let passengers off the train first (stand to either the right or left of the doors) before you board, and offer your seat to someone who may need it more, such as a pregnant person, an elderly person, someone who is disabled and so on.
3. Bring layers (and a raincoat)
London’s weather is changeable – temperatures have been known to rise and fall by 20°C in a matter of days. Showers can happen any time of year so pack a brolly (umbrella) or raincoat in your day bag and wear layers that you can easily take off. In summer, always carry a bottle of water on the Tube (the deep tunnels were built before air-conditioning). And while the climate may be mercurial, don’t let bad weather put you off going about your day – simply switch to more indoor-based activities, as there are hundreds of them to choose from.
4. Opt for comfort over fashion when it comes to shoes
Most people cover a lot of ground when exploring London, plus different terrains: grass in the many green spaces, long Tube escalators, slippery pavements and even cobblestones. Museums require leg work, as do bridges, boats and parks. Heels are pretty pointless in London, unless you are getting a door-to-door cab to a venue.
5. Make reservations for top restaurants
While there are plenty of terrific places to eat that welcome walk-ins (although be prepared to queue for the best joints), many of the best restaurants are booked up weeks in advance, especially new ones or those run by celebrity chefs. More restaurants have adopted booking policies and deposits since the pandemic, so if you’re looking for a unique dining experience, book ahead.
6. Do as the Londoners do and go to a supper club
Embed yourself in London life with a dinner party with locals; a supper club is a superb way to try home-cooked local food from London’s diverse community. These are locally run endeavors, taking place in people’s homes or taking over whole restaurants – try The Bridge Club serving British eats made with French cooking techniques in South London or Indian street food with Chaiiwala in East London, run out of local chef Dhruv Mittal’s flat.
7. Know how to order at a pub
There are unspoken rules when visiting a pub. One person – not a whole group – should go to the bar. Stand anywhere and wait your turn. If someone was waiting before you, it’s polite to signal for the bar staff to serve them first if they come over to you. When you go back to your table with the drinks, you just bought a ‘round.’ Now everyone at the table owes you a drink throughout the evening, each person has a turn at buying a round. Last orders are when the bell rings, and from this moment you have 20 minutes to finish your drink.
8. Go to a football game
Football rivalries run high in the city, with 17 football clubs, including seven Premier League teams and four Women’s Super League Teams. Giant temples to the Beautiful Game sit around London and are great places to feel the collective energy of the city, as locals congregate come rain or shine to watch their heroes on the field. You'll need to book tickets far in advance for Premier League Games, but women’s and lower league men’s games are easier to come by – and arguably far more fun to watch. Visit local team websites to book.
9. Be polite and embrace the art of queueing
Londoners (and British people alike) are big on manners, and not having any will get you into trouble. Say please and thank you, and apologize if you bump into someone. Don’t stare at people on the Tube, and hold the door open for people behind you when you walk through. Let people pass, and be sure to help people in need (people with buggies at the top of stairs, older people crossing the road etc). If there is a queue to the attraction you want to visit or a stall you want to buy from, join it – you’ll soon get into a confrontation if you skip the line.
10. Make a plan, but don't go overboard
London is massive, so getting from one side to the other takes a couple of hours in a car (and that's if there is zero traffic). Riding the Tube is quicker, but journey times can still be long if attractions are on either side of the city. Minimize travel times by exploring by region – do a day in Central London, another day in North London and so on. Plan on spending at least a few hours in the big museums and galleries, as there is so much to see. Take many breaks, grab lunch at a cafe or pub and pause to take in the views. It’s easy to get carried away with the energetic pace of London, but sights are more enjoyable if you adopt a more leisurely approach.
11. Don’t leave your stuff lying around
Don’t leave your bags unattended at public venues like stations, buses, theaters or museums, as this is likely to cause alarm and your bag may be removed – or stolen. Only take around with you what you are able to carry for several hours. Luggage storage is generally rare in London, but hotels will likely store bags once you check out. Avoid carrying mobile phones in back pockets or where they can be easily swiped.
