In this Bermuda Triangle cruises guide, we’ll navigate through its fascinating history, separate myth from fact, and explore the most intriguing cruise routes.

Unveiling the Mystery – The Bermuda Triangle

The bermuda triangle: an overview.

The Bermuda Triangle, a name that conjures up images of lost ships and planes, unexplained phenomena, and age-old legends, is one of the most intriguing mysteries of the sea.

Geographically, it is defined by its three vertices: Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, forming a triangle in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean.

This expanse, covering about 500,000 square miles, has been the subject of speculation and intrigue for decades.

Historical Background

The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle began to capture public attention in the early 20th century.

It gained notoriety through a series of unexplained disappearances:

  • The USS Cyclops (1918): A U.S. Navy ship vanished without a trace along with its 306 crew members and passengers, marking one of the largest losses of life in U.S. Naval history not involving combat.
  • Flight 19 (1945): A group of five U.S. Navy bombers disappeared during a training flight. The search plane sent after them also vanished, deepening the mystery.
  • SS Marine Sulphur Queen (1963): This tanker, carrying molten sulphur, disappeared off the southern coast of Florida, with no trace ever found.

These and other incidents have fueled a myriad of theories ranging from natural phenomena to extraterrestrial interventions.

Exploration and Early Myths

The area’s history is rich with legends, some dating back to the time of Christopher Columbus, who reported strange compass readings and unusual lights in the sky.

Over time, the Bermuda Triangle became a topic of folklore, with tales of the lost city of Atlantis and the mythical underwater world of mermaids often associated with the region.

Scientific Explanations vs. Popular Myths

While the Bermuda Triangle continues to be a topic for speculation, scientists have attempted to provide rational explanations for the disappearances. These include:

  • Environmental Factors: The Gulf Stream, a strong ocean current found in the region, is known for its swift and turbulent nature, which could potentially mislead sailors and aviators.
  • Methane Hydrates: Scientists suggest that eruptions of methane gas from the ocean floor could theoretically sink ships by reducing the density of the water.
  • Human Error and Technology: Navigational errors and technological failures are also considered plausible explanations for the many incidents in this area.

The Bermuda Triangle in Popular Culture

The Bermuda Triangle has been a popular subject in books, movies, and television shows, often depicted as a zone of paranormal activities and alien encounters.

This portrayal has significantly influenced public perception, making the Bermuda Triangle a symbol of the mysterious and unexplained.

Demystifying the triangle for cruisers.

The allure of the Bermuda Triangle is not just in its mysteries but also in the thrill of navigating its waters.

However, it’s essential to distinguish between the myths that have long shrouded this area and the facts that modern sailors and scientists understand.

  • Trained Crew: Cruise ships have highly trained and experienced crews capable of handling a wide range of maritime situations.
  • Emergency Protocols: In the unlikely event of an emergency, cruise ships have comprehensive safety protocols, including lifeboats, rafts, and communication links to maritime rescue services.

Fact vs. Fiction

The Bermuda Triangle continues to captivate the imagination, but it’s crucial to approach these stories with a balance of fascination and rationality.

Out of 30 people probably caught about 10 fish. My problem is when we (people on boat)ask the captain to move the boat they said there was no need to. Now remind you we weren't catching anything for a while. And if you know the good captain will move the boat so that their customers will catch fish. And the worst part of all is the captain and one deck hand decided to take a nap instead of moving the boat. Waste of almost $300. And when I try to get a hold of someone they tell me I went through the cruise line I need to go through them for a refund. And the cruise line is only willing to refund me 25% where is this fair. We could have been out there all day swimming. We did not get the run swizzle with our trip. But staff was offering up some shots towards the end. Overall I would do it again. • denisn682 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Just make sure weathers good Weather was not favorable so we didnt get to snorkel at the shipwreck, which, looking through the glass bottom, seemed like a pretty spot to snorkel in as it had plenty of fish and the wreck was cool. The captain did give us a choice of getting a refund or going with it. Everyone opted to stay. If you get to snorkel at the shipwreck, with good weather, it seems like a nice experience. The shipwreck snorkel site was replaced by another, however there was not much to see there, but it was still decent. The captain and the crew did compensate by offering, essentially, unlimited rum swizzle and soda, instead of 1, which I think was a good way to go about it. Beers would cost you 6$, which, considering its Bermuda, was a fair price. Overall, a good experience still, too bad weather didnt allow us to snorkel at the shipwreck. Knowledgable and funny crew, they did their best to make the best out of it. Would visit again. Read more Written 27 August 2023
  • Tutugirlnj 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing I would leave one star but the crew was very friendly and the one young man was very nice to talk to. Unfortunately, I have to leave this kind of review I don’t like to, but I have to be honest. Very disappointed for our very first sunset cruise. We’ve been coming to Bermuda now four times and always wanted to do one and finally booked and it was very disappointing. It was very cloudy, very rough and extremely windy evening. Tried to get in contact with the owner, but there is no phone number for them so called TripAdvisor and told them that it looks like a storm was coming through and it was going to be raining at some points and wanted to see if we could get a refund. And then TripAdvisor said they reached out to the owner and the owner said absolutely not the next storm that they were getting was next week and we were not able to get a full refund or any kind of refund. We had an extremely difficult time finding the catamaran because there was no name. And other passengers were also very concerned about the conditions out there. There was an attempt made to not go, but was told no and the owner made the crew go and said they have no choice. They played music and the rum swizzles were passed out and were good. It rained not poured but absolutely no sunset and it was not fun. We will not be booking with this company nor recommending them. Our next time in Bermuda as we visit frequently we will be booking another sunset cruise with someone else and hopefully will have a much better experience. Read more Written 25 August 2023

They are contained and the glass bottom is so much fun. The coral and fish and the shipwrecks make for a fun adventure. Our captain was a local and never stopped talking the entire time. A great experience overall and I certainly recommend! Read more Written February 26, 2024
  • ThereGoHappyPeople 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A highlight of our bermuda visit! A highlight of our Disney cruise to Bermuda was the family going on this glass bottom boat. (Ages 1 to 72). John and Jess were lovely, informative, accommodating and fun! We played the Wellerman over the wreck of the Vixon, and grandchildren learned to snorkle. As a grandparent i just sat down stairs, but the more agile guests also climbed on to deck of boat for better views. Even though we neurotically brought our own life jackets for the kids, we used the ones on the boat along with their noodles. Thank you Jess for the experience! Read more Written October 18, 2023

Forrest and Zeke were our captains and they completely made the experience! They gave us so much information about the island and it’s history. It was my son’s 4th birthday and Zeke lead everyone on the boat in singing to him. Beautiful views and entertaining crew. Would definitely do this again! If the kids were a little bigger I would probably upgrade to the snorkeling but this is great if you don’t want to get in the water. Read more Written October 14, 2023

  • sbounce14333 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Captain Rather take a nap then move the boat It was horrible We went on jolly Rogers Atlantic reel fishing trip. I think this company should be responsible for a full refund. Read more Written September 25, 2023

I have just started to go through the Bermuda forum since our cruise is in mid-June.  We have done the Triangle Evening cruise in the past. It was fun and very informative.  Two parts stick out as memorable - (1) watching the sunset from the boat, and (2) opening the doors on the glass bottom to see the fish and shipwreck.  Each person also gets a watered down rum swizzle on the way back to the dock.

Hope this info isn't too late for you!
