Seven Corners travel insurance does not cover every single situation that may arise during your travels. Like other travel insurance companies, Seven Corners’s plans contain exclusions, which is why it is always a good idea to review your policy’s fine print.

Here are some examples of exclusions in the RoundTrip Choice plan:

  • Air travel on privately owned aircraft.
  • Elective treatment and procedures.
  • Mental health care.
  • Normal pregnancy.
  • Routine physical examinations or routine dental care.
  • Suicide or attempted suicide or any intentionally self-inflicted injury.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance Review — Is It Worth It?

Why Purchase Travel Insurance

Travel insurance and covid-19, why purchase travel insurance from seven corners, comprehensive travel insurance package policies, travel medical insurance plans — plans for international travelers, travel medical insurance plans — travel within or to the u.s., specialty plans, how to obtain a quote, best for comprehensive travel insurance plans, best for travel medical plans, seven corners vs. other travel insurance companies, seven corners vs. credit card insurance, everything else you need to know, final thoughts.

We may be compensated when you click on product links, such as credit cards, from one or more of our advertising partners. Terms apply to the offers below. If you’re planning a trip, especially in the current environment, chances are the topic of purchasing travel insurance crossed your mind. It’s good news that whether you’re looking for a comprehensive travel insurance package policy or 1 that focuses on providing medical insurance coverage during your travels, you’ll find coverage can be easily secured and it can be affordable.

The company we’re reviewing today offers both comprehensive travel insurance package plans and separate plan options that provide stand-alone travel medical coverage . Seven Corners has been offering these plans since 1993 to U.S. citizens traveling abroad, travelers who are visiting the U.S., and other international travelers.

Let’s continue as we look at why you’d want to purchase travel insurance and specifically why you’d want to consider Seven Corners. We’ll also look at the types of policies offered by Seven Corners, how the company compares to other travel insurance companies, and to the coverage that comes with your credit cards.

Join us now for a close-up look at Seven Corners and what it has to offer.

Travel insurance is designed to protect your trip investment from loss and from the additional expenses incurred due to an unexpected event, causing you to cancel your trip or resulting in disruption during your travels.

Here is a sampling of circumstances when travel insurance could provide a significant benefit:

  • You break your ankle during your ski trip and need to return home early
  • An immediate family member becomes seriously ill and you must cancel your trip to care for them
  • You become ill or injured while staying at a remote lodge and must be evacuated to the nearest hospital
  • There is a flood and your home becomes inhabitable, causing you to cancel your trip
  • You suffer a dental injury on vacation and need immediate dental work

Bottom Line: Any trip that involves a significant investment in non-refundable expenses should be insured, as well as any trip that takes you where you would be without medical coverage.

Many travelers have recently found themselves in a position where they needed to cancel, postpone, or change their travel plans due to COVID-19 . While it’s reasonable to expect that travel insurance might cover these cancellations, normally, it does not.

It’s possible your travel insurance policy will cover you for canceling your trip due to getting ill from the virus, or if your trip is disrupted as a result, but many companies are excluding coverage for any COVID-19 related claims.

Additionally, voluntary cancellations due to the fear of getting ill are not a covered reason for trip cancellation on any travel insurance policy.

In order to be covered for COVID-19-related trip cancellation, you must purchase Cancel for Any Reason insurance (CFAR). Note that the coverage can be expensive, it will not cover all of your trip costs, and many companies do not offer the coverage.

If having this coverage is important, you’ll want to select a travel insurance company that offers CFAR insurance and/or offers coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, and medical care should you contract the COVID-19 virus.

Bottom Line: Travel insurance does not cover voluntary trip cancellations due to the fear of getting ill. In order to have coverage for voluntary cancellations, you must purchase Cancel for Any Reason insurance. Not all companies sell this CFAR insurance, it does not cover all your trip costs, and it can be expensive.

Ambulance and gurney

When you select a travel insurance company, you’ll first want to make sure it’s financially stable and that it has decent customer reviews. Seven Corners checks those boxes with an A+ rating of the company’s underwriters from the insurance financial rating company A.M. Best , and according to global consumer rating company Trustpilot , 81% of its customers view their experience as good or excellent.

Now that we know Seven Corners is a stable and well-respected company, we’ll next want to check out the company’s policy offerings.

We’ll compare coverages and costs shortly, but 2 critical items we’ve covered so far in this article are 1) the importance of a company offering the option to purchase CFAR insurance and 2) that a policy offers coverage for COVID-19.

If either of these items is important to you, have peace of mind knowing that Seven Corners offers both.

Let’s look closer at the types of policies Seven Corners offers.

Bottom Line: Seven Corners has highly rated underwriters, good customer service ratings, and offers both comprehensive travel insurance package plans and medical travel insurance. In addition, the company offers CFAR add-on insurance and coverage for COVID-19 related expenses.

  • Visitor Insurance Plans — Complete medical insurance plans are available for inbound non-U.S. citizens traveling to the U.S. Coverage for family members and travel companions is also available.

Bottom Line: Seven Corners offers an expansive collection of comprehensive travel insurance plans and options for stand-alone travel medical insurance coverage. The Value of Travel Insurance Comparison Sites

Seven Corners Travel Insurance

Regardless of the type of insurance you wish to purchase, it’s always prudent to compare policy coverages and costs. This is especially true with travel insurance and travel medical plans as coverage is widely available and costs can vary significantly between companies.

That’s where travel insurance comparison sites can add value. You’ll find each site compares scores of highly-rated companies and dozens of policies, making it easy to compare and select the policy that best meets your needs.

Here are a few we recommend.

  • TravelInsurance.com — Compare travel insurance plans that also offer travel medical insurance. No stand-alone travel medical plans are offered.
  • Squaremouth — Search for single trip, annual, group, and sports/adventure plans. While travel insurance plans can include medical coverage, there is no option to search for medical-only coverage.
  • InsureMyTrip — The site allows you to compare single and multi-trip travel medical policies as well as comprehensive travel insurance plans.

Bottom Line: Travel comparison websites are valuable resources for comparing travel insurance plans. However, not all sites allow you to search for stand-alone travel medical plans.

How Seven Corners Travel Insurance Compares

Seven Corners Comparison

Purchasing travel medical insurance for a single trip is not an expensive decision, although costs can be much higher as you get older. In the above example, we searched for a quote for a 1-week $3,000 trip to Mexico for a traveler 40 years of age. All plans include COVID-19 coverage and cost $13 to $20. At 70 years of age, the same policy would cost approximately $50 to $90.

Seven Corners offers both competitive coverage and premium costs on travel medical insurance when compared to several other insurance companies. Your experience will vary based on the type of policy, the coverage selected, the age of the travelers, and the length/cost of the trip.

When we look at comprehensive travel insurance policies, Seven Corners, although competitive, had lower limits on medical coverage within the comprehensive travel insurance plans when compared to most other companies. However, higher limits are available via the Seven Corners website.

Seven Corners vs Others

Many credit cards come with complimentary travel insurance coverages that can provide a benefit if your trip is canceled/interrupted for covered reasons, your luggage becomes damaged, lost, or delayed , or even if you have an accident with your rental car .

It’s possible this coverage could be sufficient for a simple trip that doesn’t include a significant financial outlay. However, the coverage that comes on your credit card will not take the place of a comprehensive travel insurance policy. Plus, it’s rare to find any level of travel medical insurance on a credit card.

There are just a few additional reasons for considering travel insurance over the coverage that comes with your credit card:

  • Coverage that comes with your credit card is normally secondary coverage that requires you to first file a claim with any other applicable insurance
  • Claims for travel insurance are not handled by the credit card issuer but by a third-party company, making it potentially more complicated to file a claim
  • Credit cards do not provide comprehensive travel medical coverage
  • Credit card insurance does not cover cancellations due to the fear of getting ill, including the fear of getting the COVID-19 virus
  • You are normally required to use the applicable credit card to purchase the trip in order to have coverage

If your trip does not involve a significant investment, you have medical insurance that covers you while traveling outside the country, and you feel comfortable relying on the coverages offered by travel rewards credit cards, here are a few of the best cards to consider:

Here is some additional helpful information regarding purchasing a policy from Seven Corners:

  • You have 10 days after you receive your policy documents to review the plan and, if not satisfied, request a full refund

Seven Corners is a highly rated, established, and respected travel insurance company that offers a wide variety of travel and medical insurance plans for travelers. It is overall competitive and offers both COVID-19 coverage and Cancel for Any Reason insurance.

The company also excels in providing long-term medical coverage for international travelers.

One caution to note is that, as with all travel insurance companies, many of Seven Corners’ plans do not offer COVID-19 related coverage. If this coverage is important to you, be sure to select a policy that includes it and if desired, add CFAR coverage.

Because there are so many variables when it comes to purchasing travel insurance or travel medical insurance, prices and coverages can vary significantly. Be sure to check several sources to find the right coverage at the right cost.

  • Annual, medical-only and backpacker plans are available.
  • Cancel For Any Reason upgrade is available for the cheapest plan.
  • Cheapest plan also features a much less costly Interruption for Any Reason add-on.
  • Offers only one annual policy option.

Established in 1993, Seven Corners is a travel insurance provider that offers a wide assortment of plan options to U.S. and non-U.S. residents. The company provides single and annual trip plans as well as student specific options, and travel medical insurance.

When planning a vacation, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance as it can help you in case an emergency pops up before or during your trip. Whether you’re looking for a comprehensive policy or emergency medical coverage to supplement the travel insurance with your credit cards , Seven Corners provides a number of options.

We’ll examine the travel insurance options to help you decide if they make sense for you.

Seven Corners provides an assortment of different travel insurance plans including:

Round-trip.

Annual plans.

Student options.

Travel medical insurance.

Options for non-U.S. citizens visiting the U.S.

Plans for groups of 10 or more travelers.

RoundTrip plans are created for those who are departing from their home, traveling to another destination (or destinations) and returning home.

To evaluate plan options, we used a sample itinerary for a $5,000, two-week trip to Greece by a 38-year-old Louisiana resident.

The RoundTrip Basic plan ($197) is a good comprehensive travel insurance option and offers 100% trip cancellation (for trips up to $30,000), 100% trip interruption, $100,000 for emergency medical expenses (secondary coverage), $250,000 for medical evacuation/repatriation, lost luggage, baggage delay and other benefits.

The RoundTrip Choice plan ($280) includes all the benefits of the Basic plan, but with trip cancellation coverage up to $100,000, 150% trip interruption, $500,000 for emergency medical expenses (primary coverage), $1,000,000 for medical evacuation/repatriation and other benefits.

Notably, the latter plan offers primary emergency medical coverage, allowing you to seek medical reimbursement from the policy without first contacting your main medical insurance policy.

Each plan offers several optional add-ons:

Rental car damage: Provides up to $35,000 of coverage if your rental car is stolen or damaged due to an accident, theft, natural disaster and more. The cost depends on how many days you need coverage, ranging from $7 for one day to $98 for a two-week trip.

Trip interruption for any reason: Allows you to interrupt a trip 48 hours after the scheduled departure date (for any reason) and receive a refund up to 75% of your unused nonrefundable deposits. The benefit must be purchased within 20 days of the initial trip payment. The added cost to the RoundTrip Basic Plan is $5.91; the added cost to the RoundTrip Choice Plan is $8.40.

Cancel for any reason : Allows you to cancel a trip for any reason and receive a reimbursement of up to 75% of your nonrefundable trip costs. Cancellation must occur two or more days before the scheduled departure date. For the RoundTrip Basic Plan, this optional add-on costs $82.74. For the RoundTrip Choice Plan, it is $117.60.

Annual travel insurance plans are designed for frequent travelers who want to take many trips throughout the coverage period (364 days). A trip begins once you leave your home country.

“Seven Corners offers one annual policy called Travel Medical Annual Multi-Trip. The policy can be customized depending on how long you plan to be away from home for any one trip. You can travel as much as you like during the 364 days, so long as any one trip doesn’t exceed the option selected — 30, 45 or 60 days.”

The plan provides coverage of up to $1,000,000 in medical expenses and $1,000,000 in medical evacuation/repatriation. In addition to the below, the plan includes additional medical-related benefits. Refer to the terms and conditions of the policy for details.

To look at policy cost and available optional add-ons, we used a sample trip starting in December 2023 for a 45-year-old who plans to travel worldwide (excluding the U.S.). The policies assume a personal deductible of $250 per occurrence and opts out of adventure activities coverage.

The plans offer customization depending on your travel needs. Whether you’re looking for adventure sports coverage or a modification to your medical deductible, Seven Corners allows you to choose the option that’s the best fit.

If you don't need pre-departure trip cancellation and interruption protections or you already have coverage through a premium travel credit card , Seven Corners offers four medical travel insurance plan choices:

Travel Medical Basic.

Travel Medical Choice.

Travel Medical Plus.

The Basic, Choice and Plus plans provide varying degrees of coverage, with the Plus plan offering the highest limits. The Plus plan includes a specific call out for COVID-19; you'll be covered for COVID-19-related treatment expenses up to the medical maximum.

» Learn more: Travel medical insurance: Emergency coverage while you travel internationally

Selecting the plan best for you involves understanding what type of coverage you will want while traveling.

For premium travel credit card holders: If you hold a premium travel card that already provides you with an adequate amount of trip cancellation coverage, you may only want to get a standalone emergency medical policy. For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express offers $10,000 per trip and $20,000 per year in trip cancellation benefits. If you hold this card and your trip is more expensive, you’d want to consider a standalone travel insurance plan. If you're only worried about flight cancellations, AmEx offers Trip Cancel Guard, which you can buy when you book a nonrefundable flight through the AmEx Travel Portal. Trip Cancel Guard guarantees an up to 75% refund if you cancel at least two days before departure. Terms apply.

For anyone wanting more coverage: If the coverage provided by your card isn’t sufficient, you don’t have credit card coverage or you didn’t pay for your trip with that credit card, then you might be better off with a comprehensive plan like one of the RoundTrip or Annual Trip plans from Seven Corners, depending on your travel goals.

For frequent, extensive travelers: If you’re a long-term traveler and expect to take many trips, the annual plans will be the most suitable. However, with coverage for each trip capped at 60 days, you’ll want to look at other options if you will be away from home for longer.

Then, you'll choose your mode and reason for travel. On the last screen, it'll recommend a plan where you can proceed to add the trip details to receive a quote.

Trip insurance plans have a number of exclusions that you need to pay attention to so you know exactly what type of coverage you’re getting. Here are some general exclusions:

High-risk activities: Skydiving, bungee jumping, heli-skiing and other types of high-risk sporting activities that the insurer deems unsafe.

Intentional acts: Losses sustained from intoxication, drug use, self-harm and criminal activity.

Specifically designated events: Epidemics, natural disasters and war are commonly excluded events.

Exclusions may vary based on the policy and where you live, so it's always best to review the fine print to ensure you’re clear about what is and isn’t covered.

» Learn more: Does travel insurance cover award flights?

Before you purchase a travel insurance plan, check to see what coverage you may already have. If you have a travel credit card, you might have built-in complimentary travel insurance. If you hold one of these credit cards, see what the benefits and limits are because you may have sufficient coverage.

In this case, you’ll be better off purchasing a separate emergency medical plan . However, if your credit card doesn’t provide enough coverage, a comprehensive travel insurance plan might be the right choice. Seven Corners has various options to choose from.

I contacted Seven Corners just to…

I contacted Seven Corners just to inform you that we had difficulties with our flights from Portland to Sidney, Australia and that we would be submitting a claim within a week or so after completing our cruise on 5/12/24. The person I spoke to was very professional and listened to the details of our journey to date. She said that she would open a file afterwards. Thanks. Gary Jacobsen

Hello Gary, we're happy to hear about your positive feedback regarding the professionalism and attentiveness of our representative. We value your business and look forward to assisting you with your upcoming claim!

Give Julie a raise

Though I hope I never will have to make a claim, I am very grateful to Agent Julie Holtzapple who has walked me through the plans, advised me on the details, sent me the information promptly and continues to take care of my questions. That Seven Corners values us as customers by having caring and expert agents like Julie gives me confidence in your company. Give Julie a raise and the other agents, too. They are the heart and soul of your success.

I have had to call Seven Corners two…

I have had to call Seven Corners two times now. Not for a claim or any inaccuracy in my policy. I just needed to update the terms of my existing policy and to ask a few questions. Both times, my wait time was minimal and the customer service representative was highly efficient and prompt and did exactly what she said she would do. I will continue using Seven Corners. I have never had a claim as of yet, so I can not speak to their efficiency in that regard however.

Hi Karen, we are delighted to hear that our customer service representatives have been able to assist you efficiently and promptly. Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review!

I feel 7-Corners is a kind company and the assistance from Candy was kind and thoughtful as well as apologetic due to my claim not being with this company and she kindly past me to FALCK, whom I dealt with while on tour and they are AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! Seven Corners isn't handling my claim and Candy was delightful, I hope I NEVER EVER HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Tracy, we wish your claim was handled by Seven Corners to maintain the positive experience you had with Candy - she is one of our finest representatives. Your feedback on her service means a lot to us. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Representative was great, the software wasn't

The representative answered promptly and was able to answer my questions. That said, the reason I needed to call is that your claims software did not let me proceed past step five after I had saved the claim and returned to it. I could also not submit my paperwork by uploading to your site and had to send things in via email.

Hello P Wardlow, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This will help make our online claim filing experience better for our customers. If you have any questions or additional feedback, please email [email protected].

Hello Daniel, thank you for your 5 star review on our customer service!

Great Customer Service

I called about a claim that I submitted in November. Schuyler was the person I talked to. She was fantastic. She has a very calm demeanor and extremely professional AND I could understand her. I thank Seven Corners for keeping jobs in the US. She led me in the proper direction and offered to resend anything I needed. I'm not used to getting customer service like this anymore. I felt she actually cared about helping me rather than trying to rush me off the phone.

Seven Corners insured us on our second…

Seven Corners insured us on our second trip to British Columbia Canada. Not good at all. On the second half of our trip my wife got Covid for the first time and experience that kept her bed ridden in our hotel room. When we really needed Seven Corners, they 'ducked out', to bad and "Sorry Charlie", went AWOL, abandoned us in a foreign country. Shame on them! Over a dead horse would I recommend this company? Fred Klessig, retired Health Care Professional

Date of experience : August 30, 2023

Hello Fred, we were able to locate your policy using your information. After reviewing the documentation provided, the wildfires in British Columbia Canada still allowed you to travel to your destination. Therefore, your policy Trip Interruption coverage was not triggered as you were not prevented from travelling to British Columbia. We are sorry to hear that your wife got COVID-19, and we did receive 2 calls to assist with how to use the insurance.  After reviewing your claim case, we did not see a claim for the medical expenses incurred. Our team would be happy to help with claim filing for any covered medical expenses. Please email us at [email protected] to start the process. Thank you.

We filed a claim on this policy

I purchased a tour for me and my wife…

I purchased a tour for me and my wife in September 2023.Then I was notified in December 2023 that part of the tour was canceled. I then attempted to cancel the entire tour, but was advised by an agent of EF GO Ahead Tours to file medical cancellation since I had back problems .What a mistake I spent a total $12,286.49 for the trip and only received $11,056.49 back. Seven Corner Insurance and EF Tours have keep the rest. If this can happen to us, an 84 year man who (Can hardly walk) and his wife then what was the need for insurance ?

Date of experience : January 25, 2024

Hello Walter, we would be happy to explain the cancellation fee portion of your claim with Seven Corners - please email us at [email protected]. The remaining amount, we encourage you to contact EF Go Ahead Tours for the breakdown of the refund. Thank you.

Glad for Cancel for Any Reason Provision

We were able to use the cancel for any reason provision of our policy after our daughters dog was diagnosed with cancer 3 days before departure. We were thankful we added this on. The claims process is clunky and I feel like Seven Corners makes this process complicated and convoluted on purpose. Like not requesting all the documents needed up front, but asking for documents one at a time week after week in the process and then taking a week to respond back. But we able to get it done.

Date of experience : February 03, 2024

Hello Kent, we understand the stress and anxiety you experienced due to your daughter's dog's cancer diagnosis just before your departure. We want to assure you that our intention is to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in handling claims. Our customer service team is always happy to help explain what documentation is needed before submitting a claim to avoid delays. Thank you.

Wonderful experience from day one.

I've had called the Seven Corners number of times and from the initial call, they were very professional and pro-active to assist me. Every person I spoke to was able to get access to updated information regarding my case and very helpful. I really appreciate working with this company.

Travel Coverage

Mrs. Andrea so very polite, courteous, knowledgeable, and patient with me. Would highly recommend Seven Corners Travel Ins. Company to other travelers. They have the best rates for the coverage in my opinion.

Seven Corners offers robust coverage across the board with a slew of plans to choose from. Really, it’s hard to go wrong.

Several key benefits plans from of Seven Corners:

  • Large range of insurance plans:   Unlike other providers that have a limited selection of plans, Seven Corners offers 6 types of travel insurance, making it easy to find the appropriate coverage for your trip without overpaying for things you don’t need.
  • Solid coverage limits: Plans from seven corners include solid coverage limits that are enough to cover you in most travel scenarios. Unlike other providers who skimp on medical limits, Seven Corners has you covered.
  • Traveler rewards: If frequent traveler rewards were used to buy the travel arrangements for your trip, Seven Corners’ insurance will cover the cost charged to re-deposit frequent traveler rewards into your account.
  • Single-trip and annual insurance plans available:   Most companies only offer single-trip coverage. If you’re planning a second trip during the same year, you have to buy a completely separate policy. Seven Corners offers an annual plan , ensuring you’re covered whenever you travel.
  • Coverage for Americans and international citizens:   You don’t have to reside in the United States to use this trip insurance. Some plans are available to travelers living in other countries.
  • Multilingual travel assistance:   What makes Seven Corners different from other travel insurance companies is that it offers 24/7 multilingual travel assistance. Many companies offer English-only assistance, making it difficult to get answers to your most pressing questions if you aren’t a native-English speaker.
  • Group travel insurance available: If you’re traveling with friends or family members, you can buy one plan to cover everyone instead of having each person buy their own coverage.

Here are our top picks for the best Seven Corners plans

Seven corners.

Here’s an overview of Seven Corners travel insurance plans and coverage.

Trip Protection Choice:

Trip Protection Choice provides comprehensive travel insurance in a single policy. The plan covers trip cancellation , trip interruption (up to 150% of trip cost), emergency medical expenses (including coverage for expenses associated with COVID-19 ), medical evacuation and baggage loss/delays. Trip Protection Choice also covers financial defaults with a 14-day waiting period. This means you may be able to get your money back if a travel supplier defaults on its financial obligations. For example, if you spend $600 on a whale-watching excursion, you may be covered if the tour operator files for bankruptcy protection.

Trip Protection Economy:

Trip Protection Economy has many of the same benefits as Trip Protection Choice, but it comes with lower coverage limits. For example, Trip Protection Economy only provides trip interruption coverage up to 100% of the cost of your trip, while Trip Protection Choice covers up to 150% of the cost.

Trip Protection Elite:

Trip Protection Elite gives you expanded coverage for all the little mishaps that can occur before or during a vacation. For example, it covers up to $1 million per person in medical evacuation and repatriation costs . Trip Protection Economy only covers up to $100,000 of evacuation/repatriation expenses.

Trip Protection Basic:

Trip Protection Basic covers many of the same travel-related expenses as the other plans, but it has different coverage limits. For example, it covers up to 100% of your prepaid, nonrefundable expenses if you experience a trip interruption.

Travel Medical Basic incl US:

Travel Medical Basic gives you the option of selecting up to $1 million per person in emergency medical coverage (including expenses related to COVID-19). This coverage is secondary, which means you must exhaust your health insurance benefits before Seven Corners will start covering emergency medical costs. It also provides $2,500 in trip interruption protection, but this coverage is only applicable to flight costs associated with returning home due to a covered emergency. Travel Medical Basic even gives you $25,000 in coverage for an unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition.

Travel Medical Choice incl US:

Travel Medical Choice extends the benefits available with Travel Medical Basic. For example, you get $5,000 in trip interruption coverage (return flight only) and $50,000 for the unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition. If you come down with COVID-19 or another illness, this plan gives you extra peace of mind.

Here’s a brief look at how these plans compare:

Optional add-ons

In addition to its standard travel insurance offerings, Seven Corners has several add-ons. Each add-on is optional and designed to expand your coverage, giving you even more protection before and during your trip.

CFAR (Cancel for any reason)

Trip cancellation travel insurance only applies in certain situations. For example, it may cover your losses if you have to cancel due to a medical emergency before you travel. Cancel-for-any-reason coverage extends your benefits by allowing you to cancel for any reason at all. For example, if you book a trip to Mexico and then decide to go to the Bahamas instead, you can use your CFAR travel insurance to get back your prepaid, nonrefundable expenses. CFAR insurance from Seven Corners covers up to 75% of your trip cost.

Interruption for any reason

Interruption-for-any-reason travel insurance works like the CFAR add-on, except it’s for trip interruptions instead of trip cancellations. If you get homesick, for example, you can end your trip and use your IFAR coverage to get some of your money back.

Sports equipment delay

If you’re traveling with sports equipment, you may want to purchase the sports equipment delay add-on. This type of insurance covers the cost of renting skis, golf clubs and other sports equipment if you have a baggage delay of at least 6 hours. With this extra insurance, you don’t have to panic if you get to Scotland and discover that your golf clubs are somewhere in New York City. You can rent clubs and start golfing.

Rental car damage protection

Rental car damage protection gives you extra peace of mind if you have to rent a vehicle while you’re traveling. If you don’t have coverage, you may have to pay out of pocket for accident-related repairs. This add-on covers many types of damage, such as scratched paint or bent rims.

Adventure & extreme sports

Standard trip insurance doesn’t cover emergency expenses arising from participation in extreme sports and other risky activities. An adventure sports add-on allows you to expand your emergency medical coverage, ensuring that you’re protected if you love to kayak, go caving, SCUBA diving, or participate in other adventure activities while you’re traveling. If you break your leg, hit your head, or sustain some other injury while participating in such sports, the add-on will cover your medical expenses. For example, if you plan on adding adventure activities to your African safari itinerary this add-on will pay for your medical bills if you get hurt while parachuting or skydiving on an excursion in Botswana .

Pre-existing conditions

Seven Corners covers pre-existing conditions with Trip Protection Choice if you meet the requirements stated in the plan. This includes buying the plan within 20 days of the date of the initial trip payment, being medically able and not disabled from travel when you pay for the plan, and updating the coverage to include the cost of subsequent travel arrangements - within 15 days of paying for them. Also, Travel Medical Basic and Travel Medical Choice provide some coverage for the unexpected recurrence of this type of medical condition.

Like other travel insurance providers, Seven Corners doesn’t cover the following:

  • Named storms: Travel insurance covers expenses arising from hurricanes and other storms, but only if they’re not named before you travel.
  • Routine medical care: Travel insurance is designed to protect you in emergencies. Seven Corners won’t pay for any routine medical care you receive while traveling.
  • Elective procedures: Travel insurance doesn’t cover the cost of elective procedures, or procedures that you don’t need to preserve your health.
  • Medical travel: Travel insurance covers emergency medical expenses, but it doesn’t cover medical travel, which means you can’t travel to another country for medical care and use your travel insurance benefits to cover the bill. For example, if you want to have surgery overseas, you can’t use your travel insurance to pay for it.
  • Self-inflicted injuries: Seven Corners won’t cover the cost of treating self-inflicted injuries. This includes cutting and other forms of self-harm.
  • Private plane travel: Discerning travelers may use private planes to avoid long security lines and crowded airports. You should know that travel insurance doesn’t cover this type of transportation.
  • Psychological care: Many travelers have anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. However, Seven Corners doesn’t cover the cost of therapy and other forms of psychological care.
  • Intentional acts: Insurance is designed to cover unexpected accidents, so Seven Corners won’t pay bills arising from intentional acts.
  • Extreme sports: Standard insurance doesn’t cover travelers participating in extreme sports activities. Typically, if you want coverage for adventure activities, you’ll need to purchase the adventure sports add-on.

According to our sales data, visitors to our website have spent an average of $207 on for a 19-day trip.

Several factors influence the cost of travel insurance.

  • Trip cost: The more you spend on prepaid expenses, the more coverage you need for your trip. Therefore, it costs more to insure an expensive trip than a budget vacation.
  • Age: Older people tend to have more health problems than younger individuals, increasing the risk that they’ll need emergency medical coverage while traveling. Therefore, older adults pay more for coverage .
  • Trip length: The longer you’re away, the greater the risk that you’ll have an emergency. Insurance companies account for the increased risk by charging more to cover long trips.
  • Number of travel companions: It costs more to insure multiple people than it does to insure just one traveler.

To help you plan for your trip, we gathered five price quotes based on the following criteria:

  • Quote 1: Single traveler, 32 years old, seven-day trip to Italy , total cost of $4,800
  • Quote 2: Two travelers, 48 and 49 years old, 10-day trip to Canada , total cost of $5,200
  • Quote 3: Solo traveler, 25 years old, five-day trip to Jamaica, total cost of $2,300
  • Quote 4: Two travelers, 63 and 64 years old, 12-day trip to Germany , total cost of $6,000
  • Quote 5: Solo traveler, 57 years old, seven-day trip to Mexico , total cost of $2,800

All quotes are for California residents traveling in September 2024.

Example Quotes for Seven Corners

Based on these quotes, the average cost of each plan is:

  • Trip Protection Basic: $198.60
  • Trip Protection Choice: $293.60.

It’s important to keep in mind that your own costs won’t be the same as those above. For updated pricing, we recommend you get a quote .

Seven Corners Travel Medical Basic and Choice, Trip Protection Basic, Economy, and Elite provide secondary coverage, which means it kicks in after you’ve used your primary insurance benefits. For example, if you have emergency medical expenses, you must use your health insurance coverage first. Once your health insurance company processes your claim and pays its portion of the bill, then you can file a claim. Trip Protection Choice has primary coverage for emergency accident and sickness medical expenses and medical evacuation & repatriation of remains.

How long has Seven Corners been in business?

Seven Corners has been in business since 1993.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance Overview

Based on our review, Seven Corners earned a score of 4.5 out of 5 stars because it offers a variety of plan options, highly customizable policies, valuable add-ons and affordable rates. We recommend the company as a good option for international travel.

Seven Corners offers significant coverage limits and add-ons like cancel for any reason (CFAR) and trip interruption for any reason (IFAR). You can also add coverage for pre-existing medical conditions with some plan types.

However, travelers looking to add jewelry, business equipment, extreme sports or electronics coverage may want to consider other options. Seven Corners also does not offer concierge services with its travel plans.

What Does Seven Corners Travel Insurance Cover?

Seven Corners offers multiple travel insurance options, including Seven Corners Trip Protection, Seven Corners Travel Medical Insurance and Seven Corners Travel Medical Annual Multi-Trip plans.

Under Trip Protection, you can choose between the Basic and Choice plans. The Choice plan offers enhanced coverage limits, including up to $500,000 worth of medical expense coverage and up to $1,00,000 for medical evacuations. You can also add coverage for pre-existing medical conditions if you meet the company’s waiver requirements.

The Travel Medical Insurance plan provides up to $5 million in emergency medical insurance, no matter your destination. The Travel Medical Annual Multi-Trip plan is an annual policy you pay for once a year, convenient for frequent travelers. It includes coverage for medical expenses, emergency evacuation and additional benefits for any trips you take within the year you enroll.

Seven Corners also offers plans for travelers visiting the U.S. from abroad. Coverage is mostly focused on medical expenses incurred in the U.S., which has some of the most expensive medical costs in the world . The Seven Corners Travel Medical USA Visitor plan offers international travelers medical coverage and assistance in navigating the U.S. healthcare system. This plan is available only to non-U.S. residents.

For most international travel originating from the U.S., we recommend Trip Protection plans. As an example, we’ve outlined the coverage included on the more affordable Basic Trip Protection plan below.

  • Trip cancellation: Trip cancellation insurance reimburses you for non-refundable travel expenses. Basic trip cancellation protection includes coverage for up to 100% of your total trip costs.
  • Trip interruption: Trip interruption insurance refunds you for non-refundable expenses and helps you get home if you’re forced to cut your trip short. Basic trip interruption coverage reimburses you for up to 100% of your trip costs.
  • Trip delay: Trip delay protections compensate you for each day your trip is delayed, beginning at six hours’ delay. Trip Protection Basic coverage includes $200 worth of trip delay protection for each day your travel is delayed up to $600. Seven Corners plans also include missed connection coverage for cruise-goers , with up to $500 for meals, lodging and additional trip costs.
  • Emergency medical and dental: Emergency medical and dental coverage are medical insurance plans that cover injuries and illnesses treated abroad, as most domestic health insurance plans don’t cover international treatments. The Basic plan includes up to $100,000 worth of medical expense coverage and $750 in dental benefits.
  • Emergency evacuation: Emergency medical evacuation coverage helps get you home if you’re critically injured abroad. This coverage may help transport you to the closest medical care center with sufficient resources to treat your injury or illness. The Trip Protection Basic plan includes $250,000 worth of medical evacuation coverage.
  • Personal and baggage: This benefit pays you if your baggage or other personal items are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed during your trip or while checked with a common carrier. The Trip Protection Basic plan includes $500 worth of baggage coverage.
  • Baggage delay: This benefit helps you pay for necessities and toiletries if your baggage gets delayed on your way to your destination. Trip Protection Basic plans cover $100 in baggage delays for up to a $500 maximum benefit.

All Seven Corners plans include emergency evacuation and medical assistance, with immediate help from multilingual travel representatives available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is beneficial if you’re planning a trip to a country where you cannot speak or understand the local language.

Policies Offered

Not sure which Seven Corners plan is right for you? The following is a summary of Seven Corners’ travel insurance plans available for U.S. citizens. Sample plan details were collected using data from a 30-year-old traveling to Mexico for one week with a total trip cost of $1,500.

Seven Corners Add-On Options

Like any travel insurance provider, Seven Corners will not cover every situation you might encounter. However, you can extend your coverage with one or more optional riders, or a la carte protections you can purchase.

Seven Corners offers the following add-on options for the Travel Protection travel plans:

  • Rental car collision coverage : If you’re planning to rent a car abroad, you can add up to $35,000 worth of collision coverage with Seven Corners’ collision insurance rider.
  • Cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage : Similar to most travel insurance, Seven Corners plans will only cover cancellation reimbursements if you must cancel your trip for a covered reason. The company’s CFAR upgrade entitles you to a reimbursement of 75% of your travel expenses, no matter why you need to cancel.
  • Interrupted for any reason (IFAR) coverage : Like the CFAR upgrade, this add-on grants you reimbursement for up to 75% of nonrefundable trip expenses.
  • Sports and golf equipment rental reimbursements : This option reimburses you up to $5,000 if you must rent replacement equipment while traveling because yours was lost, stolen, damaged, destroyed or delayed by a common carrier (such as an airline) for at least six hours during your trip.
  • Pre-existing conditions waiver : If you have a medical condition at the time you explore travel insurance plans, most insurance companies will exclude related coverage. However, Seven Corner’s pre-existing conditions waiver allows you to extend your coverage to include these conditions if you qualify.

The pre-existing conditions waiver is only available on select Travel Protection plans.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance

Cost of Seven Corners Travel Insurance Plans

On average, it costs $216 for a travel insurance plan with Seven Corners. However, your exact price will depend on your age, the cost of your trip, your destination and trip length. The cost of each plan tier varies due to differences in coverage levels and benefits. For instance, the Trip Protection Choice plan offers a higher medical coverage limit than the Trip Protection Basic plan.

Your trip type also affects how much you pay for a plan. If you’re traveling to a remote area, you may prefer more comprehensive medical coverage compared to a standard leisure trip. As a result, your insurance expenses will be higher. You can see an estimate of the plan costs based on different traveler profiles in the table below.

*We obtained policy costs by requesting quotes on the Seven Corners’ website.

Seven Corners International Travel Insurance Cost

Seven Corners lets you choose from many options for international travel insurance. To help you understand the cost, we gathered quotes for a 30-year-old couple planning a $5,000, 11-day vacation to Mexico. We listed the estimates we received in the table below.

Seven Corners Domestic Travel Insurance Cost

The company also offers many valuable options to those traveling within the U.S. To help you get an idea of the domestic travel insurance cost, we obtained quotes for a 30-year-old couple planning a $5,000, 11-day trip to Alaska. We received the following estimates:

Seven Corners Travel Insurance Reviews

Seven Corners is accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and has an A+ rating . Reviews of Seven Corners’ travel insurance are variable, with customer sentiment varying by website.

Customers who were satisfied with their insurance coverage say they received quick, knowledgeable assistance from customer service. However, some customers were also upset with Seven Corners for refusing to provide appropriate reimbursement or taking weeks or even months to review their claims.

What Customers Like:

Customers who were satisfied with their insurance coverage say they received quick, knowledgeable assistance from customer service.

“I purchased travel protection basic insurance for an intentional trip, just in case I needed medical attention. While traveling, a family member fell ill back in the US and I had to fly home unexpectedly. I reached out to Seven Corners after returning home to see if the policy could cover the cost of the ticket due to the medical emergency and the representative let me know it could cover up $1,000 if I had proper back up documentation. I filled out the paperwork, submitted the claim, and it was approved and the money was deposited into my account. One thing to know, it wasn’t a quick process. I filed the claim in October and it wasn’t reviewed until December. I had to resubmit the physicians form and then it was approved in January. I received the direct deposit to my account with 48 hours of the approval though! I would definitely use them again and look to add in the plan that fully reimburses costs due to a medical emergency/trip interruption.”  —  E.S. via Trustpilot, January 2024. “Seven Corners was very helpful in getting our trip insurance for our South Africa trip. We had some problems getting there so now I’m filling out a claim for our lost vacation time. I’m assuming that Seven Corners is going to be just as helpful and fair in this process.”  —  Michael M. via Trustpilot, November 2023.

What Customers Don’t Like:

Many customers were also upset with Seven Corners for refusing to provide appropriate reimbursement or taking weeks or even months to review their claims, and having difficulty contacting customer service.

“Doing all they can to avoid payment. Sending me multiple replies asking for more documents when everything needed provides. Very unhappy with the service. I recommend to avoid.”  —  Dror E. via Trustpilot, January 2024. “I needed to speak with someone on a weekend and no one was available. My luggage was damaged on the flight, but didn’t notice it until unpacking at the hotel. Tried to call on a Saturday, but was informed by answering that no one would be there til Monday. Our tour started on Sunday so I was unable to place the return call. Had to purchase new luggage at my own cost to get home.”  —  Saibo via Trustpilot, October 2023.

When asked about the above negative reviews, Seven Corners Content Marketing Strategist Becky Hart replied with the following:

“We placed great emphasis on improving our claims processes and customer communication in 2023,” she said. “We also introduced a more user-friendly way to submit claims online, which improved efficiency and gave customers a more transparent way to track their claims. As a result, processing times have dropped dramatically and our improvements have been reflected by improved customer ratings on both Trustpilot and Google Reviews.” “Even as claims processing times have dropped, we continue to review each submission thoroughly in accordance with policy language and law,” Hart added. “We realize policy language can be complex, which creates confusion for the customer during the claims process. We always encourage people to review their plan document and ask questions before they purchase their plan and travel.”

  • A family of four taking an $8,000 vacation to Mexico.
  • A 65-year-old couple taking a $7,000 vacation to the United Kingdom.

  • Plan availability (10%): We look for insurers with a variety of travel insurance plans and the ability to customize a policy with coverage upgrades.
  • Coverage details (29%): We review the baseline coverage each company offers in its cheapest comprehensive plan. A provider with robust coverage earns full points, including baggage delay and loss, COVID-19 coverage, emergency evacuation and medical coverage, trip delay and cancellation coverage, and more. Companies also receive points for offering a variety of policy add-ons like accidental death and dismemberment, extreme sports, valuable items, cancel for any reason coverage and more.
  • Coverage times and amounts (34%): We compare each company’s waiting periods and maximum reimbursement amounts for baggage, travel and weather delays. Companies that offer customers reimbursement after fewer than 12 hours of delays earn full points in this category. We also reward travel insurance providers that cover more than 100% of trip costs in the event of cancellations or interruptions.
  • Company service and reviews (17%): We look for indicators that a company is well-prepared to respond to customer needs. Companies with an established global resource network, 24/7 emergency hotline, mobile app, multiple ways to file a claim and concierge services score higher in this category. We assess reputation by evaluating consumer reviews, third-party financial strength and customer experience ratings, specifically from AM Best and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Wonderful experience! I had planned a trip to Thailand with all my friends and wanted to add Vietnam and possibly Japan to the trip but it can be a headache to plan length of stays and airlines to choose. Seven travel made it so easy. I just say where I want to be and she showed me what I wanted and options that would save me hundreds on flight just from a simple day change in the plans! I planned my trip without thinking about the entry visa to Vietnam and she had my visa stamped on passport within 1 week!! Love the experience. Here's the best of why I highly 100 percent suggest you book through Seven... I was in Vietnam and decided to fly last minute from Hanoi to Saigon Ho Chi Minh... sent a message and she had it sorted within 2 hours as long as you contact her at the right time zone. Others would say to take loss on tickets and pay full price for changes, she had it sorted and I paid only the discount difference. I had the best 2022 Vietnam/ Thailand trip, thank you Seven Travels for making this trip easy with my friends!

An absolute awesome experience with Seven Travel. Booked round-trip plane tickets from LAX to Ho Chi Minh City, domestic flights in Vietnam to/from Hanoi, and a 4-day tour in Central Vietnam (Hue, Hoi An, and Da Nang) for me and a friend. Kim, the travel agent, was incredibly helpful in each part of the process, especially in recommending sights to see. I planned my trip five days before leaving, and Seven Travel was able to lock in the best prices and most convenient times for me to travel. I asked for the lowest prices so I booked discount airlines (VietJetAir and China Airlines). During the process, she answered all my questions that came up promptly and thoroughly through email/phone. The tour itself was good, considering it was my first time in VN. The tour was all Vietnamese-speaking with no available English translator which would be a problem for non-Vietnamese speaking travelers. Meals were decent, and you'll have to search for street/local food on your own or you could ask the tour guide for recommendations! Visited many pagodas and all of the must-see destinations in Hue/Hoi An/Da Nang. The office itself is rather small with a small parking lot, but the services provided are fantastic, especially for traveling around Southeast Asia. Definitely recommend and will use again next time I go to Vietnam!

Good price, good coverage package. Had one issue finalizing the policy thru the web site, took a couple of days to confirm it went thru which is the only reason this was not a 5 star rating...

Thank you for the peace of mind afforded by you insurance during our trip

Easy process. Gave me peace of mind.

Comparing plans and shopping for insurance was easy, and modifying the travel dates after purchase was also easy. Highly recommend.

They were available when I needed them.

Purchasing went smoothly. Fortunately, no claim!

OUR TRIP WAS TO ISRAEL; HOWEVER, WE DIDN'T GO BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS CANCLLED BUT YOU REFUSE TO ALLOW US TO FILE A CLAIM. ACCORDING TO YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IN DECEMBER WE WERE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY REFUND. WE'VE USED YOU ON ALL OUR TRIPS BUT WILL NOT AGAIN. WE'V RECOMMENDED YOU MANY TIMES BUT NOT WE WILL NOT. SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR COMPANY.

I submitted a minor claim online for medical expenses while traveling to the Philippines. It was an easy and smooth process.

I purchased insurance for myself and 4 companions. There was nothing in the ordering process asking for state residency of each individual. After receiving policies, I learned that Washington State residents require a different policy than Oregon state resident. It would have been helpful to know beforehand as I had to cancel two of my policies and purchase different ones. However, the customer service folks were very helpful in making the changes needed.

smooth efficient process. affordable.

It began as a traveling insurance company with a small team offering medical expense plans. Seven Corners is now a leading travel insurance company that provides thousands of members worldwide.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance Plans

Seven Corners offers a wide array of travel insurance for US travelers both on domestic and international trips. They also provide medical, student travel, annual travel, and group travel insurance. The following are the current insurance plans covered by Seven Corners:

Seven Corners insurance plans and descriptions.

Seven Corners' RoundTrip Choice plan

The choice plan includes all the basic plan coverage and more. This plan adds $100,000 coverage for trip cancellation and $500,000 for emergency medical expenses. It also includes up to $1,000,000 for medical evacuation and other benefits.

Why We Like Seven Corner Travel Insurance

Good coverage.

Seven corners have one of the best medical and travel coverage limits compared to other cheap travel insurance providers. They have insurance for traveling almost everywhere around the globe. Their plans are unique, and you won't find some on any other travel insurance provider.

Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR)

CFAR allows customers to cancel their travel insurance for any reason, no questions asked. The knowledge that Seven Corner can return a portion of their investment upon cancellation gives customers peace of mind when purchasing travel insurance.

24/7 Travel Assistance

Seven Corners travel insurance also comes with 24/7 travel assistance. They can assist you and answer questions about hotel and flight bookings, visa information, embassy contact, lost passport, etc.

What Is Not Covered?

There are some exclusions to Seven Corners insurance plans, and you should be aware of them before purchasing one of their plans.

Here are examples of common exclusions on Seven Corners plans:

  •  Physical examination
  • Dental care
  • High-risk activities (check to see if they're listed in your coverage)
  • Intentional self-harm, intoxication, or criminal activity.
  • Private air travel
  • Special disasters, epidemics (covid-19 is covered in some plans), and war.

While some features are covered in their plans, knowing what's included and excluded from your plans is good. Make sure to double-check what your specific travel insurance package includes before you make the purchase!

What's Seven Corner's Covid-19 Policy?

The pandemic has significantly changed international travel. Seven Corner's travel insurance plans are designed to protect travelers in this new normal.

Their international medical insurance covers COVID-19, and other illnesses and injuries travelers can suffer while traveling abroad.

Seven Corners Covid travel insurance can cover as much as $100,000 worth of medical expenses for COVID-19 and other possible variations or mutations of SARS-CoV-2.

They also cover $500,000 worth of emergency medical evacuation and repatriation to transport sick travelers to a medical facility with appropriate care.

Which Seven Corners Insurance Plan Is Right For You?

Choosing the right plan can help you make the most out of your finances while traveling. Our advice is to choose based on your financial capacity and current insurance plans.

Seven Corner travel insurance get started.

For example, suppose you're a premium travel credit card holder with existing coverage for trip cancellations. In that case, you should choose their standalone emergency medical policies.

However, if you want more coverage on top of the credit card's coverage, you're better off with their RoundTrip plan. If you're a frequent traveler, who makes a lot of trips each year, you'll want to opt for their Annual plans.

Is Seven Corner Travel Insurance Worth It?

As a travel insurance company specializing in medical coverage, Seven Corners does a good job and might be one of the best in the industry.

It's undoubtedly one of the top for delivering medical tourism protection plans to protect travelers from the high cost of medical care overseas. Another great feature of Seven Corners is that it covers all age brackets and individuals in the US — it even includes students, seniors, visitors, and recent immigrants in the US.

Our Rating: 4.3/5

  • Covid insurance for travel
  • Cancel for any reason upgrade
  • Comprehensive pricing plan
  • 24/7 customer service
  • Delay for weather coverage
  • No 'cancel for work reasons' available

See how Seven Corners Travel Insurance stacks up against the competition.

Seven Corners vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

At first glance, Seven Corners and Allianz are relatively similar. Both offer multi-tiered, single-trip, and annual travel insurance plans . Both companies also provide supplemental riders for cancel for any reason coverage and rental car damage protection. In an ideal world, customers of both companies would enjoy more control over coverage amounts and claim limits.

However, at this time, Allianz does not offer group policies. So, if you're planning on traveling with ten or more people, you'll likely be able to get a better deal with Seven Corners. On the other hand, if you're especially concerned about claims processing time, Allianz may be the better bet between the two.

Read our Allianz Travel Insurance review here.

Seven Corners vs. AIG Travel Insurance

Similarly, AIG travel insurance is comparable to Seven Corners. Each provider boasts a comprehensive insurance plan with varying levels of customization. In addition, both providers offer annual and standalone medical travel insurance plans.

Still, there are some differences between the competitors. For its part, Seven Corners offers a plan for non-US residents traveling to the United States. Meanwhile, AIG has a "Pack 'N Go" plan for last-minute travelers who don't need trip cancellation coverage. Both companies have ample opportunities to improve claims processing times.

Read our AIG Travel Insurance review here.

Seven Corners vs. World Nomads

On the other hand, World Nomads travel insurance and Seven Corners have more distinct differences. While Seven Corners has a wide array of travel insurance plans, World Nomads' selection is more streamlined. To date, it only provides two comprehensive insurance plans, one of which has more inclusions and higher coverage limits than the other.

If you're looking for something other than comprehensive coverage, Seven Corners might be the way to go. If you're okay with all-size-fits-one coverage, World Nomads could be a great option, particularly if you plan on doing any adventure activities while on your trip. For many occasional travelers, bundling to cover bases they might not see is appealing. Of note, adventure sports coverage is included in the World Nomads base plan, while it is only available with Seven Corners for an additional fee.

Read our World Nomads Travel Insurance review here.

How We Reviewed Seven Corners Travel Insurance

In reviewing Seven Corners travel insurance, we compared it against other popular travel insurance providers within the industry. Specifically, we examined the available plan options, including any available riders, claim limits, coverages, exclusions, and typical policy costs.

Choosing the best policy for you and any co-travelers is about selecting a policy with the right type of coverage and adequate coverage limits. Ideally, you should ensure that it works well in your budget and allows you to submit a claim quickly. You can read more about how we rate travel insurance products here.

Seven Corners' single-trip insurance covers pre-existing conditions if you booked within 20 days of your initial trip payment and 15 days of any additions. Additionally, travelers must be medically able while purchasing insurance. Seven Corners' annual plan begins covering pre-existing conditions 60 days after the plan has started.

No, you cannot purchase insurance from Seven Corners for a trip already in progress. However, you can extend certain policies currently in progress.

Availability for Seven Corners varies from state to state. Additionally, Seven Corners does not insure travel to certain countries and similarly, doesn't insure international travelers in the US from certain countries.

Traditional travel insurance is generally more comprehensive than credit card travel protection , and Seven Corners is no exception. Seven Corners has robust coverage for international travel, medical emergencies, and evacuation, which many travel credit cards do not cover.

These plans include a set amount of medical coverage but are less customizable. The three single-trip plans offered are:

  • RoundTrip Economy
  • RoundTrip Choice
  • RoundTrip Elite

Annual Coverage

Frequent travelers will be pleased to learn that Seven Corners offers an annual plan that covers all trips taken in a one-year period. The plan is called Wander Frequent Traveler and includes two options: Plan A or Plan B. Plan A covers all trips lasting up to 30 days, while Plan B covers trips up to 45 days.

These are the plans we’ll focus on in today’s review, but Seven Corners really does have a travel insurance solution for every need. They also offer student plans and immigrant/visitor plans. If that sounds like something that might work for you, be sure to check out their website for more details.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance: What’s Included?

When choosing a travel insurance plan, it’s important to carefully consider what’s included and how much coverage is provided. The Seven Corners travel medical plans are customizable – that means you can choose the amount of medical coverage you want and the deductible you’re comfortable paying. You can also elect to pay for hazardous sports coverage if you need it. Here are the options for each plan:

*Current as of December, 2018

That’s a ton of choices, am I right? Once you decide what level of medical coverage you need and what deductible works for you, these are the inclusions you’ll be looking at:

Seven Corners Travel Medical: What’s Included

This table doesn’t get into all the nitty-gritty, so make sure you consult the plan certificate so you’re clear on all the details before you buy.

Note that some medical treatments must be pre-certified before Seven Corners will cover them. Basically, you’ve gotta run it by them before they’ll pay. Within the U.S., uncertified treatments that end up being covered will incur a 25% penalty (unless it’s an emergency).

Seven Corners offers three trip protection plans. Unlike the travel medical plans, the focus of these plans is protecting the investment you make when you plan a trip. Trip insurance protects you from financial loss in the event you have to cancel your trip last minute or have to return home suddenly after you begin your trip.

The focal point of these plans is trip cancellation and trip interruption protection, but they also offer non-customizable medical coverage. Here’s what each plan includes:

Some of these plans include upgrades including:

  • Flight accident
  • Rental car collision damage waiver
  • Cancel for any reason
  • Cancel for work reasons
  • Lost ski days and equipment rental
  • Lost golf rounds and equipment rental

Wander Frequent Traveler

Wander Frequent Traveler is Seven Corners’ annual travel insurance solution for people who travel several times a year. Since it’s an annual plan, it covers any trip you take for a full year. You can choose coverage for trips up to 30 days (Plan A) or up to 45 days (Plan B).

The medical maximum for the Wander Frequent Traveler plan is a whopping $1,000,000 for travelers under 65. That’s per period of coverage, which means 365 days. Seniors aged 65-75 traveling inside the United States get $50,000, and those aged 70-75 traveling outside the U.S. have a $100,000 medical maximum. Travelers over 75 do not qualify for Seven Corners’ annual plan.

Unlike the single-trip travel medical plans, the Wander Frequent Traveler doesn’t come with a choice in deductible: it’s $250 for everyone.

In terms of coinsurance, for travel within the U.S. and Canada, Seven Corners pays 90% of the first $5,000 after your deductible, and then 100% up to the medical maximum. (Remember, if you’re under 65, the medical maximum is a million!). For travel outside the U.S. and Canada, they pay 100% to the medical maximum after your deductible.

Here’s what’s included with the Wander Frequent Traveler plan :

A Note About Pre-Existing Medical Conditions for Wander Frequent Traveler

For the purposes of this plan, a condition is pre-existing if you had symptoms or sought treatment within the last 12 months – if you’re traveling outside the U.S. and Canada. If you’re traveling within the U.S. and Canada, the look-back period is 36 months.

So, if you’re a U.S. citizen traveling outside the U.S. or Canada, you qualify for the waiver of pre-existing conditions if you have an unexpected reoccurrence. Expected treatments are not covered.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance: How Much?

Seven Corners travel insurance plans are all priced differently and depend on factors like your age, destination, and country/state of residence. The good news is you can get an online quote in seconds!

Let’s look at some pricing examples based on a hypothetical family of four from California, ages 40, 38, 12, and 10. Let’s say they’re taking a family vacation to Costa Rica (sounds incredible, right?)

Travel Medical Plans

For a three-week trip, the family of four would pay the following prices for the Liaison Travel plans :

  • Liaison Travel Economy: $78.92
  • Liaison Travel Choice: $86.48
  • Liaison Travel Elite: $148.22

These quotes are based on a $250 deductible and a $50,000 medical maximum without hazardous activities insurance. Obviously, higher levels of coverage cost more.

For the same three-week trip to Costa Rica, the family of four would pay the following prices for Seven Corners’ trip insurance plans :

  • RoundTrip Economy: $250
  • RoundTrip Choice: $334
  • RoundTrip Elite: $418

These quotes are based on a trip cost of $2,500 for each parent and $2,000 for each child. They don’t include any upgrades.

As you can see, the trip insurance plans are more expensive than the travel medical plans – this is because trip cancellation is an expensive benefit.

Pricing for the Wander Frequent Traveler plan is pretty straightforward. There are two options: Plan A and Plan B. Plan A covers all trips lasting up to 30 days in a one-year period, and Plan B covers all trips lasting up to 45 days in a one-year period.

Here’s the pricing for Plan A:

So, a family of four traveling outside the U.S. would pay $295 for a year’s coverage – that’s pretty good!

Let’s take a look at Plan B:

If the same family of four wanted coverage for trips up to 45 days in duration, they’d pay $355. Again, that’s not a bad price for a full year – providing they take a few trips during that period.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance: What Isn’t Covered?

1. pre-existing medical conditions that don’t qualify for the waiver.

Travel insurance plans don’t usually cover pre-existing medical conditions, but some waive that exclusion under certain circumstances.

The Seven Corners plans waive the exclusion of pre-existing medical conditions for U.S. residents traveling outside the U.S. when the necessary treatment is for a sudden flare-up – not an issue that could be reasonably expected. They won’t cover treatment for an expected issue related to a condition that was pre-existing in the 12 months before the coverage period. That’s called the look-back period, and 12 months is on the long side. For travel within the U.S., the look-back is even longer at 36 months.

To qualify for the waiver with the trip insurance plans, you need to purchase your policy within 20 days of making your initial trip deposit and insure all non-refundable prepaid costs. The same applies to any travel arrangements you make for the trip later on.

2. Claims Not Received Within 90 Days

If you need to file a claim, make sure you get it in as soon as possible. You have up to 90 days to file. Otherwise, you won’t be covered.

3. Hazardous Activities Not Covered by Optional Insurance

Optional hazardous activities insurance has you covered for certain adventurous undertakings, but not all of them. For example, you’re covered for bungee jumping and jet skiing but not mountaineering. And if you don’t buy the extra coverage, there’s a whole slew of activities that won’t be covered. Make sure you read the fine print and make your plans accordingly.

4. Losses that Occur After You Fail to Depart Following Government Warnings

If you’re traveling abroad and your home country issues a warning against travel to your destination and urges travelers to return home, you won’t be covered if you don’t comply.

These are just a few exclusions you should be aware of. See the full list here .

Seven Corners Travel Insurance: Who Can Be Covered?

Seven Corners travel medical and trip insurance plans cover travelers over 14 days of age – even seniors in the 80+ club. The Wander Frequent Traveler plans covers travelers up to age 75.

Of course, available coverage and price vary with age, so be sure to get a quote online and weigh your options.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance: Pros and Cons

Who should buy seven corners travel insurance.

Frequent Travelers – If you take a few trips a year, Seven Corners Wander Frequent Traveler plan can cover you for a whole year and save you some money.

Travelers Who Want to Customize Their Plans – Seven Corners’ travel medical plans let you choose the level of medical coverage you need and the deductible you’re comfortable with.

Travelers Who Need Trip Cancellation + Medical Coverage – If you want to protect the investment you make when booking your trip, you need trip cancellation insurance. The only Seven Corners products that include cancellation are the RoundTrip plans. Luckily, they include emergency medical coverage, too. RoundTrip Economy’s medical coverage is pretty skimpy at $10,000, but if you spring for RoundTrip Choice, you get $100,000.

Long-term Travelers – The single-trip medical plans cover trips lasting up to 364 days in duration, but if you need even longer, the Liaison Elite is renewable for up to three years.

Who Should Skip Seven Corners Travel Insurance?

Frequent Travelers Over Age 75 – The Seven Corners travel medical and trip insurance plans cover seniors of any age, but the Wander Frequent Traveler plan isn’t available past age 75.

Hardcore Thrill-Seekers – Sure, Seven Corners offers hazardous activities coverage as an optional add-on, but it’s hardly the most inclusive list. World Nomads holds that title, and if you’re planning a lot of adventurous pursuits, you might be better off checking them out.

How to Buy Seven Corners Travel Insurance

If you’re interested in a Seven Corners travel insurance plan, your first stop is going to be their website for a quick quote. If you like what you see, just click the buy button – it’s as easy as that!

How to Make a Claim

I hope you never have to make a claim, but if you do, it’s pretty easy. Visit the claims section of the Seven Corners website and find your plan name. The forms you need to complete are right there – just click to download them. Fill out your form(s), attach the required documents, and submit them however is easiest for you. You can click the “upload button” on the website (my favorite), email them, fax them, or mail them in.

Seven Corners Review: Should You Buy It?

Is Seven Corners travel insurance worth it? That depends on what you are looking for.

If customizable medical coverage is your main concern, the travel medical plans are a great and affordable buy. They don’t include trip cancellation, though, so you should opt for refundable airfare and hotel deposits if you go that route. You usually pay more for that flexibility, so it comes down to crunching the numbers.

The Seven Corners trip insurance plans are more expensive, but they include trip cancellation and medical coverage. While I wouldn’t bother with RoundTrip Economy ($10,000 in medical is just too low), making the jump to RoundTrip Choice provides a pretty comprehensive plan.

Finally, if you’re a frequent traveler, the Wander Frequent Traveler plan will be right up your alley. You get coverage for a full year and can choose between trip lengths of up to 30 days or up to 45 days in duration. This should cover most the needs of most people. Again, there’s no trip cancellation, so pay attention to your airline and hotel refund policies. This can also be covered if you pay using a credit card with decent interruption/cancellation coverage. Either way, make sure you’re covered.

I hope this Seven Corners travel insurance review was helpful. Thanks for reading and happy travels!

10 natural wonders of the world actually worth visiting, according to travel reviews

A new study looked at unique natural wonders you can’t find anywhere else in some of the most extraordinary places on the planet to rank 10 that are “actually worth a visit.”

Titan Travel — a travel agency that offers escorted tours across the globe — looked into the popularity of world-famous natural wonders on Instagram and TikTok, as well as Google search volumes and Tripadvisor to “reveal which natural wonders of the world are the best,” the company said. Two natural wonders in the United States made the list.

“While plenty of countries offer spectacular man-made sights like the Egyptian Pyramids, Machu Picchu or the Great Wall of China, it's the natural wonders that only a few people will ever get to see in their life that truly fill us with awe,” the company stated.

" Calming treats can be extremely helpful for dogs who do not do well with change , including if you move to a new home or bring in a new pet." Dr. Hammond and Lisa Lippman , D.V.M., veterinarian and director of virtual medicine for Bond Vet , weighed in on the ingredients they recommend for canine patients.

Our list omits CBD and hemp dog treats, as the GH Institute nutrition experts don't yet believe there's enough clinical research to recommend them for dog anxiety. There's some research showing CBD can help dogs with pain, but "I recommend its use with caution and after consultation with a veterinarian," Dr. Hammond said.

Talk to your veterinarian before feeding any dietary supplement to your dog.

Kradle is Dr. Hammond's top choice for calming dog treats. "It incorporates natural ingredients such as passionflower and L-tryptophan [an amino acid], which have been shown to have calming effects on dogs, " she said. The brand's soft Bliss Bars are in a dog-pleasing peanut butter-bacon flavor.

The brand suggests that you give a serving before a stressful event such as you leaving for work (separation anxiety is real!), a thunderstorm rolling in or a planned car ride. These can get pricey, especially if you have a big dog or intend to use these daily. For dogs who like to gnaw, the brand also makes hard chews .

Greenies chicken-flavored calming supplements has the only under-$20 pricetag on our list, and it's also an easy brand to find in many supermarkets, pet stores and mass merchants. The brand touts it for use in times of occasional (but normal) canine stress based on its lead ingredients, L-tryptophan and L-theanine (another amino acid), which may help reduce anxiety and stabilize mood , respectively.

These are relatively new for Greenies so there's not as many online reviews to read, but it's is a trusted brand that also makes some of our favorite cat treats .

Purina formulates this daily probiotic supplement for dogs that display general anxiety in the form of pacing, spinning, whining and/or barking. The brand says its proprietary strain of probiotics can help calm your dog, but there is no clinical study on it. We like that the powder is simple to sprinkle over your dog's regular food.

The brand cautions that it might take up to six weeks to see results, which can feel like a long stretch to dog owners, but some online reviewers report seeing much faster improvement. If you just want to calm your dog in a one-time stressful situation, such as a vet visit, you might want something more fast-acting.

Composure is a brand that Dr. Lippman trusts, and these chews are marketed as a way to calm a dog for a single stressful event that pops up from time to time, such as the need for a nail clipping or grooming session, fireworks or if you hear a thunderstorm rolling in.

Vetri Science says Composure will start working in a half hour, so you don't have to wait for weeks to see a behavior change — but these are not meant to be daily supplements, just as needed during stressful events. Like others, its powered by L-tryptophan and L-theanine, but the first ingredient is actually thiamine, a B vitamin, which, when deficient, can affect a dog's nervous system .

If you have a hyper or anxious puppy, this blend may be for them, made for a dog from 8 weeks to 12 months old . It uses chamomile and passionflower, two of the ingredients recommended by Dr. Hammond, plus other plant-based ingredients such as valerian and ginger. The small, soft bites are turkey flavored. Zesty Paws also makes a peanut butter flavor for fully grown dogs, and the supplements have more than 14,000 five-star Amazon reviews.

The right dose of melatonin can make an animal sleepy , so if that's what you're hoping to achieve — your dog napping in the car instead of whining at the window, or resting sleepily while visitors are over for dinner — this could be the calming dog treat for you. These chews also contain plenty of other calming ingredients such as chamomile, passionflower and L-tryptophan.

But note that an incorrect dose of melatonin can sometimes produce the opposite effect and increase a dog's heart rate or cause confusion , so dose carefully. If you want to further promote a calming atmosphere you might also try the brand's herbal calming room spray .

One pet owner with an anxious Spaniel swears these chews work wonders. "It's a vigorous chew experience, and he's always calm and happy afterward ," they said. So as an alternative to giving your dog a treat with calming ingredients, you can give your dog a long-lasting chew treat that will calm his troubles . It keeps a dog busy and distracted! And bully sticks are pricey, but made with just one single, natural ingredient.

How we chose the best calming dog treats

two brown and white dogs lay down in the back seat of a car, part of a good housekeeping story on calming dog treats

Two veterinary experts weighed in on this story: Sylvalyn Hammond , D.V.M., a general practice veterinarian in South Carolina, and Lisa Lippman , D.V.M., veterinarian and director of virtual medicine for Bond Vet , a chain of veterinary offices up and down the East Coast. We also checked in with Katie Brenner, a compliance officer with the National Animal Supplement Council .

We also consulted our in-house Good Housekeeping Institute experts on this guide, including Sabina Wizemann , a chemist who substantiates claims and evaluates products for the Good Housekeeping Seal , and Stefani Sassos , a registered dietitian who directs the Nutrition Lab. Last but not least, we interviewed real-life dog owners and sifted through online reviews for a full picture of real-life use of canine dietary supplements.

What to look for when shopping for calming dog treats

line break

"Supplements are not tightly FDA-regulated , and different things may work for different pets," Dr. Lippman says. "So it's really about looking for trusted brands and trying them out to see what works for your pet."

Dr. Hammond agrees. "Every pet is unique, and individual factors such as age, breed, health status and concurrent medications must be considered before starting any new supplement regimen," which is why it's smart to first check in with your vet. Then, when shopping, consider:

✔️ Ingredients , including but not limited to:

  • Chamomile: A medicinal herb with relaxing effects in dogs . (And humans, who enjoy chamomile tea.)
  • Passionflower: Also a calming herb used for anxiety and sleep issues .
  • Ashwagandha: Traditional, medicinal plant used to combat stress .
  • L-theanine: A natural amino acid that can promote relaxation .
  • L-tryptophan: An essential amino acid that works with serotonin and melatonin to help reduce anxiety . L-tryptophan is not made by a dog's body so it can only be consumed as food or treats.
  • Ginger: There is some evidence that ginger can help with motion sickness and vomiting .
  • Rosemary: This herb is thought to possibly enhance a dog's mood .
  • Valerian: A flowering plant known for its sedative qualities .
  • Melatonin: A sleep-regulating hormone that can help with stress .

✔️ Made in the U.S.: Dr. Hammond prefers treats that aren't imported, because the FDA has established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for American companies to follow that help ensure the safe composition of all dietary supplements, including ones for pets. All the treats on our list are made in the U.S., though some ingredients are globally sourced.

✔️ NASC-Certified: Both vets recommend looking for the NASC-Certified seal on dog supplements. Brands that are certified by the National Animal Supplement Council pay to be audited for quality so they can carry that third-party certification. Everything on our list is NASC-Certified except for the Bully Springs, which are not sold as supplements. (It's the action of chewing that is calming with those, not the ingredients.)

When to see a vet

listicle

If calming treats aren't helping, there is more to try. Dr. "There are non-treat products to help calm dogs, like ThunderShirts , which provide gentle pressure to help reduce anxiety," Hammond says. "There are calming sprays containing pheromones, plus environmental modifications such as creating a quiet, safe space for your dog during stressful events. Regular exercise, mental stimulation and positive reinforcement can also contribute to overall stress reduction in dogs."

Need more help? Consult your vet about a prescription. "When the anxiety is really bad, see your vet because oftentimes, drugs are really helpful," Dr. Lippman says. "Drugs are a big part of a vet practice in that we want to do things that take stress off of our animals. It's better living through chemistry."

Why trust Good Housekeeping?

line break

For more than 120 years, the Good Housekeeping Institute has been dedicated to helping consumers make sound choices, and helping families with all things pet care is a part of that. Many of our Lab experts are dog and cat owners and we test things such as dog jackets and cat carriers in the Lab, in our own homes and in consumer-tester homes as well.

Journalist and contributing writer Jessica Hartshorn has owned pets all of her life, though admittedly now has two cats and no dogs. Fortunately she shares a home with her dog-owning cousin and has many dog parent friends who share their wisdom and are willing to test dog products. She also leans on the expertise of Good Housekeeping Lab experts and the brand's consumer testers.

While you'll get a wider range of travel insurance options with some rival companies, Allianz can be trusted to get the job done.

Seven Corners Review

  • Seven Corners
  • Many different travel insurance types: domestic and international trips, travel medical, student travel, group travel, annual coverage for multiple international trips, and health insurance for visitors to the USA
  • In business for almost 30 years

Seven Corners has been insuring travelers for almost three decades. There's an appealing variety of insurance types here, from traditional single-trip plans to multi-trip, student travel, and even health plans for visitors coming to the US. However, client feedback is very mixed when it's time to make a claim: some people get everything processed quickly, while others wait for months on end just for a progress update, let alone a reimbursement. We'd suggest looking at your other travel insurance options before selecting a Seven Corners plan.

The 13 Best Travel Insurance Plans

Who offers the best travel insurance.

With daily news stories of delayed and canceled flights, lost baggage, and travelers stranded overseas in the middle of a natural disaster, it's easy to see why travel insurance is so important. Like most types of insurance, travel insurance is bought in the hopes that you'll never need it. But, for most travelers, it's worth the price for the protection it provides.

Have you ever thought that this coverage was just an unnecessary, added expense? That's fairly common: most people assume that they've got protection through their credit card company, their regular health insurance, even their homeowners' policy. In some situations, that may be accurate - but unless you know the details of those types of coverage, you're more likely to be left paying out-of-pocket expenses you thought were taken care of... but aren't included.

Travel Insurance Plan FAQ

What is travel insurance, what does travel insurance cover, what does travel insurance not cover, can i get travel insurance if i have a pre-existing medical condition, is travel insurance expensive, my chocolate is going someplace warm. will it melt, where can i buy travel insurance, is it safe to get travel insurance online.

Continued from above...

And, even if you do have that kind of protection, travel insurance policies can amplify your benefits. For example, if you choose a plan that offers $500,000 in primary medical coverage, you might not need to touch your regular health insurance: your bills will be reimbursed up to that amount, no matter what your everyday health plan includes. Car rental insurance can go above and beyond what's paid for by your credit card company or even your own vehicle's coverage - and that can be critical if you're driving in another country and have an accident.

What type of travel insurance do you need? Naturally, that depends on your trip, your travel party, and your budget. A single-trip policy will be more affordable than multi-trip coverage - but if you're traveling internationally more than once in a year, the annual policy becomes much more economical. Do you need to be able to cancel for any reason? Is it important to you to have a waiver of the pre-existing conditions exclusion? Are there any children under 18 in your party that might be included at no extra charge, depending on the insurer you select? These are all factors that will influence your decision when picking a travel insurance plan.

Confused yet? You do have a lot of options. Here are some criteria to help you sort through them and ultimately wind up with the travel insurance coverage you need:

  • Quote process. How easy is it to get a quote that matches your insurance needs? Does the site explain the questions it asks, and does it display all of the possible plans in a way you can understand? Can you buy your policy right then and there, or do you have to click through to another site?
  • Value. What's included for your premium? From one site to another, you will probably see the same price on any given plan because the states regulate travel insurance prices. However, it's worth your time to compare premium prices and benefits among different insurers, so that you get the most for your money.
  • Reputation. It's easy for an insurance company to get high marks from customers if they never had to make a claim on the policy. What do clients who've filed claims say about the way they were treated? Were they reimbursed quickly? Did they get updates about the status of the claim? It's also good to check the Better Business Bureau's rating of any travel insurance service you're going to use.

To help you get the protection you need on your next adventure, TopConsumerReviews.com has evaluated and ranked today's most popular sources of travel insurance. We're confident that this information will make it easy to protect yourself and what you've spent on your trip - and to have backup if something goes off track on your journey. Bon voyage!
