crocodile tour in miami

Join me on an adventure into the water to swim with alligators or out on the open ocean for sharks! I lead small, personalized groups out on unique wildlife adventures where you can view and photograph some of Florida's most fascinating wildlife. Depending on what sort of adventure you are looking for, we can get in open water with sharks or hop in a pool full of alligators! These tours can be catered towards the professional photographer or the animal enthusiast with a GoPro, either way we will end up up close and personal with some incredible creatures! For alligators I will take you in the water with me and a group of gators, the largest of which is over 9ft and 250lbs! The star of the show is Casper, an extremely calm alligator I have worked with since 2007.  For shark diving I work with several licensed charters where we have the possibility of seeing tiger sharks, bull sharks, hammerheads, and more!

Come out with Florida's Wildest tours!

Florida is a hot zone for invasive species with more nonnative wildlife per square mile than anywhere else on the planet. With numerous academic publications in the subject of invasive species biology, allow me to share my field experience of python hunting, tegu tracking, lionfish collection and chameleon documentation. Invasive species have been declared as the leading cause of native species extinction after deforestation and understanding this complex issue has become a necessity for any biology student or environmentally oriented person. We will discuss the invasion pathways, environmental effects, and how to move forward with this unique issue.

Crocodilian education programs, classes, seminars, and ppt presentations.

As a professional alligator "wrestler" I will discuss the biology and physical abilities of these animals, their impressive mental capabilities, handling techniques, and training techniques. See photos that completely defy public ideas of how these animals "should" behave and learn how such work is possible in a safe and respectable manner. I will break down and explain wild behaviors and how they apply to captivity, along with techniques that promote the safety and well-being of both animal and trainer.  With over a decade of hands-on experience with alligators and experience with eleven other species of crocodilian, I would like to share the knowledge and respect these powerful animals have taught me over the years.

See beautiful and up close photos of Great Whites, Tigers, Bulls, and many more species in their natural habitats. Learn about the incredible biology and ecological value of these misunderstood animals as well as the exhilarating stories behind the photos. Crocodile In Miami: Everything You Need To Know About Them

Crocodile In Miami

Miami is packed with visitors from all over the world during the holiday season. Known for its vibrant culture it is no wonder that the city is the second most visited city in the world, next to New York. But do you think, such a city will inhabit the deadliest of reptiles in the world?

Last year, a crocodile was spotted just 160 miles from Miami in Sebastian Beach. This is the northernmost range of American crocodiles. Although spotted near Miami, these creatures are quite rare to sight anywhere in the country. Let us look in more detail at crocodile presence in Miami.

Are there crocodiles in Miami Florida?

Yes, there are crocodiles in Miami, Florida. Particularly, the state inhabits the American crocodile also termed scientifically as Crocodylus acutus. They are endemic to America where their range ends in Venezuela and Peru. Miami, not the city, but the suburbs and beaches inhabit crocodiles. Although it is important to know that most of the crocodile population lived in Everglades National Park.

Does Miami Have Crocodiles And Alligators?

Oh yes, Southern Florida, including Miami hosts both alligators and crocodiles. In fact, Florida is the only state where both these reptiles coexist harmoniously. Although alligators are abundant throughout the country including Florida, the same cannot be said for Crocodiles. These creatures are listed as threatened and have separate protection against unregulated hunting and killing.

Where Do Crocodiles Live In Miami?

Crocodiles are cold-blooded animals and require a warmer climate for survival. They live both in water and on land. Though they move very smoothly in water, their gait is haphazard on land. Unlike alligators, crocodiles can live both in freshwater and saline water.

This unique feature and adaptability help them migrate to any place and that’s how you can find them even on the Miami coast. If you want to look for crocodiles, you don’t have to go far. These creatures typically live in and around lakes, river beds, and swamps, and wash up on beaches too.

How Common Are Crocodiles In Florida?

Crocodile In Miami

Crocodiles are less common in Florida compared to other places within their range. But Florida is the only state in the country with a crocodile population. So compared to other states, it is much more common to spot these reptiles.

By nature, these creatures are shy and reclusive which adds to the difficulties of finding these creatures. Although, there are some spots where crocodiles are abundant and can be easily spotted like the Everglades National Park where about 2000 of these creatures live.

Crocodile Sighting in Miami?

Though rare, there have been few sightings of crocodiles in and around Miami. The most covered ones were the one found last year in the Sebastian beach which is about 160 miles from Miami. It is believed that the crocodile probably migrated from the nearby Everglades National Park.

Another well famous sighting and capture is not of American crocodile but Nile crocodile. Shocking, isn’t it? The crocodiles were captured in Miami-Dade on 3 different times. One in 2009, next in 2011 and final one in 2014.

Although they didn’t match genetically to the ones in Disney World, their presence raises serious implications. Nobody knows how they reached the city in the first place. Although there are some believed that these creatures were illegally bought and were then released in the state.

Note that Nile crocodiles are the most dangerous species of crocodiles in the world. They are not as reclusive and shy as American crocodiles and are in fact responsible for the deaths of about 200 humans per year.

Can You Own A Crocodile In Miami?

They also have a special mailbox to send letters to Santa Claus, and those on the nice list might even get a reply – especially if you put a return address on your letter!

The original ATM dispensed its first bill of cash in London circa 1967, but leave it to Miami to write its own ATM history with a bit of Floridian flair. In the mid-1990s, Miami Beach’s Citibank had a unique problem to solve: how to provide increasing numbers of in-line skaters with ATM access, when they couldn't get up the bank steps and into the branch. They built a ramp-accessible outdoor ATM so rollerbladers could cruise away with cash without skating into the bank.

Miami Seaquarium offers Local 10 exclusive tour to display ‘investments’ as deadline to vacate nears

Christina Vazquez , Reporter

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – For the first time since Miami-Dade County told its tenant — Miami Seaquarium operator The Dolphin Company — that it needs to vacate the Virginia Key site by April 21 amid mounting animal welfare concerns, Local 10 News is getting a look inside.

Edwin Gonzalez, the company’s U.S. parks executive director, showed reporter Christina Vazquez around the park Friday.

“You are going to see some of the investments we have been making,” he said.

He showed improvements he said the company has been making to floating decks, cages and more.

“All of these decks over here that you see, all those floating decks, was about a $200,000 investment we made,” Gonzalez said.

He said the repair work underway takes time given the degree of disrepair the aging facility was in at the time The Dolphin Company took over the lease a little more than two years prior.

Take, for example, the whale bowl.

“The county has said that this is an unsafe structure,” Vazquez told Gonzalez.

“Correct,” Gonzalez said. “We have already requested a permit for demolition. It starts with fencing and from there we get the demolition permit and they knock it down.”

Gonzalez said the whale bowl was in a state of disrepair when the company acquired the facility.

“We ended up investing nearly $2 million in this whale bowl but when we came in, we had to put in a new water system, filtration system (when taking care of famed orca Lolita),” Gonzalez said. “You are going to see the famous whale bowl where Lolita was and you will notice it is old, it is closed, no one can go in because one of the concerns with Dade County is it is an unsafe structure.”

The county, citing U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection reports that document a series of repeat violations , is pressing forward in its lease termination process.

Miami-Dade Chief Operations Officer Jimmy Morales said if the company is still on the premises on April 21, the county will evict it.

“Folks can rest assured the commitment of the mayor and the administration to try to do right by the animals there and the community,” Morales said. “We are going to follow the law and hopefully get to the point that we are able to evict them and then plot a new future for what will happen there but, most importantly, make sure the animals are properly taken care of whether there or somewhere else.”

Gonzalez said executives with the The Dolphin Company have been trying to meet with county officials to “show everything we are doing to fix the park.”

Self-described “dolphin defender” Ric O’Barry , a former trainer at the park, plans to hold a demonstration at the park in support of county leaders Sunday to celebrate Miami-Dade becoming “animal cruelty free.”

He said the industry has gotten “completely out of control.”

“It means a great deal to me to know that the Seaquarium is finally closing,” O’Barry said.

Gonzalez said the company is staying put.

“We are going to fight to stay because we love this place, we love the animals,” he said.

The Seaquarium plans to hold an Earth Day event on April 22 — one day after the day they are supposed to vacate the premises.

PEOPLE's 24 Hour Food Tour: Miami

Whether you're looking for a classic, local staple or a buzzy celeb hot spot, here are all the restaurants where you should eat in Miami

Shay Spence is a freelance food and travel writer based in Key West, Florida. A self-proclaimed “professional eater,” he has become a viral sensation with over 1.6 million subscribers on TikTok  @theshayspence . Spence was formerly a food editor at People and competed on season 2 of Fox's  Next Level Chef.

Though it’s one of America’s most lively cities, Miami is not always known for its culinary scene — at least if we’re talking about the actual food . Many people go out for a night in South Beach in flashy club attire, hoping to see and be seen at the trendiest new spot…but that doesn’t always equate to a quality meal. Fortunately, there is so much to explore in this city if you go in with a plan and know the right spots, from tiny dives showing off the local Cuban cuisine to those aforementioned celebrity-frequented restaurants that actually serve incredible dishes. Follow this guide to have the perfect day of eating in Miami!

Breakfast: Enriqueta’s

David Beckham once declared Enriqueta's his “favorite place in Miami” on his Instagram story during a visit in 2022, but it’s not anything like the celebrity hot spots you’ll find over in South Beach. This small diner-style Cuban spot has been around since 1964, and they’re perhaps best known for the pan con bistec (a thinly-sliced steak sandwich loaded with fried potato sticks) — but locals know the best time to come is in the morning for the breakfast sandwich with the soft scrambled eggs and cheese practically melting into the buttery Cuban bread. And of course, no Cuban breakfast is complete without a cafecito.

Lunch: Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant

Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant

Cross the bridge over to South Beach and it’s much harder to find a decently-priced meal that’s quick and delicious, but this standing-room-only little taco shop defies the odds. Come to Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant for the best birria around, including the “birria pizza” (which is really just a massive, super cheesy quesadilla). Though my favorite thing on the menu are the shrimp birria tacos, with the beautifully tender seafood providing a lighter, fresher component to this typically heavy dish.

Dinner: Zaytinya

Shay Spence

Celebrity chef José Andrés recently opened the third location of his award-winning Mediterranean restauarant inside the Ritz-Carlton hotel, and the menu is a glorious fusion of Turkish, Greek and Lebanese cuisine. Zaytinya is one of those can’t-go-wrong places, but must-order dishes include the impossibly smooth hummus with harissa chili crisp, whole grilled Mediterranean sea bass and the crispy Brussels sprouts (probably the most famous food on the menu.) Also, you have to order some mujadara — a humble lentil and rice stew that my Lebanese mother made for us every week. Andrés fancies it up with crispy fried shallots and a dollop of soubise yogurt.

Drinks and Dessert: Rao’s

The original New York City location of Rao's (yes, it’s where the jarred pasta sauce comes from) is probably the hardest restaurant reservation to snag in the country — you have to have a standing table that goes back generations, or be invited by someone who does. This latest outpost in the Loews Miami Beach hotel, which opened earlier this year, is decidedly much easier to get into, though in my experience your best bet is to go later at night and sit at the bar. The best thing I’ve had on the menu here — and truly one of the best desserts I’ve had in my life — is the peanut butter tart, which has a graham cracker crust and an almost cartoonishly perfect pour of chocolate ganache on top.

Late-Night Spot: La Sandwicherie

While the Cuban sandwich reigns supreme in Miami, this al fresco French sandwich counter in the heart of South Beach serves the best late-night food in the city. Get the Frenchie, which is made with salami and brie, and be sure to have them load up the cornichons and douse in their homemade creamy French dressing. La Sandwicherie is also conveniently located right across the street from one of South Beach’s only true dive bars, Mac’s Club Deuce, which Anthony Bourdain once called one of his “favorite places on Earth.”

Celebrity Hot Spot: Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay

One of the newest on the South Beach scene, this upscale Asian restaurant has already been  frequented  by celebrities like Gloria Estefan and Lisa Hochstein . If you opt to dine at the 8-seat private chef’s table ($225 per person), you’ll get a regularly changing line-up of ten courses that are expertly crafted right in front of your eyes — and maybe even a surprise appearance by Chef Ramsay himself, who has shown up multiple times since Lucky Cat first opened in February.

Diamondbacks Star Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Lands a 10-Bedroom Mansion in Miami for $4.8M

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. recently bought a 7,188-square-foot mansion in Miami for $4.8 million.

The 1-acre property features 10 bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, and abundant amenities spread across two structures. It also features a resortlike backyard with a pool, spa, and an outdoor kitchen.

Based on public records, the home was on the market for $5.2 million before Gurriel swooped in earlier this year.

In the main house, there are six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, while the detached guesthouse has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A three-car garage, 1,000-square-foot pavilion, and a summer kitchen with a bathroom are situated between the two structures.

“Wow” factor

A 700-bottle wine cellar, floor-to-ceiling marble in the bathrooms, limestone flooring, and 14-foot ceilings add extra wow factor. There’s also an office, laundry room, and an attic.

This estate has smart technology and a 75k kW generator, which will be helpful during Florida storms.

Gurriel Jr., 30, is a native of Cuba and made his big league debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. A trade sent him to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, and he helped lead the team to an improbable World Series run. He signed a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the D’backs in December 2023, right before closing on his new home in Miami.

Ricky Martin appears to get an erection on stage at Madonna concert

The performer was apparently very excited to join Madonna in Miami for her "Celebration" tour.

Ricky Martin appeared to be super excited by Madonna 's dancers shaking their bon-bons all up on him.

Madonna welcomed the 52-year-old on stage during a performance of "Vogue" at Sunday night's Celebration tour stop in Miami — and, judging by fan-captured videos from the concert shared online , Martin seemingly grew aroused by the dancers' sensual grinding in front of him.

Another video Martin shared to social media also appeared to show his alleged arousal during the moment. Shortly after taking the stage, Martin sat in one of two silver chairs to help Madonna judge the ballroom portion of the show, which typically sees the singer-songwriter's dancers strut down a runway to receive scores from which Madonna and a rotating roster of celebrity guest judges.

"Thank you @Madonna my love! Always fun to be invited to the party!" Martin tweeted alongside the video. "You all, CAN’T MISS THIS SHOW!"

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Martin for comment.

Martin revealed earlier this year on an episode of Live With Kelly and Mark that he first met Madonna in 1999 following his performance at the Grammys, and the pair have remained friends ever since.

Other celebrities who've joined Madonna for the "Vogue" portion of the show include Julia Garner — who was initially hired to play Madonna in the star's delayed , self-directed biopic — RuPaul's Drag Race stars Sapphira Cristál , Plane Jane , Symone , and Monét X Change , and David Harbour , who starred in Madonna's 2011 directorial effort W.E.

Opinion: PGA Tour needs to embrace LIV Golf, have young golfers act like Mickelson, Trevino

One of the many reasons the PGA Tour is bleeding viewers was offered up at the 6 th  hole of the Masters on Thursday.  Harris English hit an incredible tee shot on the tough par 3.  So incredible that it just missed being a hole in one by about one-fourth of an inch.  English did not even so much as offer up a smile to the crowd.

To that unforced error, one of the commentators for the Masters online telecast implored: “Come on, Harris.  Smile.”

English is no doubt a very good person, but in that one instance he demonstrated a trend turning off both loyal and occasional golf fans.  That being that many of these players now seem to be robotic and aren’t inclined to give anything or very little back to the fans who ultimately afford them their living.  Several years ago, I watched as one of these players birdied seven of nine holes and never once cracked a smile or acknowledged the crowd.  He gave off the vibe that he was in the middle of a root canal rather than setting the golf course on fire.

Many of these PGA Tour players now look the same; swing the same; dress the same; act the same; go through the same sports academies; have the same coaches; the same sports psychologists; and seemingly, the same “it’s all about me” attitudes.  Note to these guys: a smile, a laugh and regular interaction with the fans goes a long way.

Over the last three decades, Phil Mickelson has given a Master Class on giving back to the fans.  As his time on the golf stage winds down, maybe some of these cookie-cutter, indistinguishable from the next, seemingly self-absorbed younger golfers may want to take a lesson from that golf legend.  As Arnold Palmer demonstrated for years, personality and individuality does matter.

Speaking of Mickelson, we come to reason number two why the PGA Tour is losing viewers.  Their foolish, ill-advised, and not remotely thought through war on LIV Golf .  It was the PGA Tour – and some enablers in the media – who ultimately were driving a wedge between the fans and the game.

From day one, myself and others were imploring the PGA Tour to embrace LIV Golf precisely for the good of the fans.  But not only did they fail to do that but again, some of their mean-spirited enablers went out of their way to smear Mickelson, Greg Norman, and LIV golf.  Premeditated, highly personal attacks that both offended and turned off countless golf fans.

Competition matters to fans.  Seeing the best against the best matters to fans.  Class matters to fans.

Suddenly, you have someone like Scottie Scheffler winning the Players Championship - often referred to as the "5th Major" by professional golfers – last year but with many fans wondering if there should be an asterisk next to his victory.  To be sure, Scheffler is a phenom.  That said, he won the “5 th  Major” against a dramatically weaker field.

A field that did not include Mickelson, Brooks Koepka; Cam Smith (the defending champion at the time); Bryson DeChambeau; Dustin Johnson; Marc Leishman; Joaquin Niemann; Patrick Reed; Harold Varner III; Jason Kokrak; Thomas Pieters; Sergio Garcia - and a number of other topflight players.

This did not go unnoticed by the fans then and it is not going unnoticed by the fans now.  I am a longtime supporter of the PGA Tour.  That acknowledged, even I have tuned out its product of late.

PGA Tour's war vs. LIV for all the wrong reasons

The PGA Tour’s undeclared war against LIV Golf was not about acting in the best interest of the fans.  It was about wrongheadedly trying to protect its brand and their jobs to the detriment of the game and its fans.

That also did not go unnoticed by the fans.

If the PGA Tour wants to stop the bleeding, bring the fans back and increase their footprint, the organization needs to do two things immediately.

  • First, embrace LIV Golf and figure out a way to bring those exceptional players back into the fold.  The PGA Tour and the Saudi-sponsored LIV have been negotiating for 10 months.
  • Second, ask Mickelson and Lee Trevino to teach their often petulant looking, robotic young golfers to smile, laugh, sign autographs and give back to the game.

Back in the glory days of NASA, the warning was: “No bucks, no Buck Rogers.”  For the PGA Tour, it should be: “No smiles and unification, no fans.”

The PGA Tour and its players have the power within them to turn this all around.
